    Player Profile: DE Trevor Scott

    By Nitesh K. Dutt

Entering his second year in the National Football League with The Oakland Raiders, defensive end and Potsdam, N.Y.-native Trevor Scott continues to make a name for himself. After a year in which he tied for the NFL lead among rookies with a team-high five quarterback sacks, Scott is hoping to reach new heights with the Raiders during the 2009 campaign.

“My main goal for this year is to get more playing time,” Scott said recently after an offseason workout. “I definitely want to earn a starting spot and to get double-digit sacks this season.”

While those may be lofty goals for a young player, Scott has shown himself to be a dedicated contributor with a non-stop motor on the gridiron.

The University of Buffalo product was selected in the 6th round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders, who took note of his speed and agility at the defensive end position. Scott began his collegiate career as a tight end but moved to the defensive line for his final two seasons at Buffalo and racked up 19 sacks and 28.5 tackles for a loss as a junior and senior.

Scott’s work ethic quickly impressed the Raider coaches and earned him plenty of playing time as a rookie. Soon enough, Scott’s play was getting noticed by opposing offenses as well and he registered the first two sacks of his career in an overtime victory against the New York Jets on October 19, 2008.

This season, however, opponents will see a more complete defender lining up across from them. “I already feel more confident with what’s going on and the whole scheme of things,” said Scott. “Whereas last year I was trying to get a feel for things and get to know my surroundings, this year I can focus on working hard and making more of a contribution to the team. With just that one year under my belt, I already feel like I’ve gotten better.”

Knowing how to prepare for an NFL season is half the battle for most young players, but it is Scott’s preparation that made his first full offseason enjoyable. “I just trained,” said Scott. “I trained for a couple of hours every day, got something to eat and took the rest of the day off. Then I woke up and did it all over again.”

Not only have Raider fans noticed the 6’5″, 255-pound defensive end, but his family and friends back in Potsdam have recognized Scott’s rise in the league. “Everybody in my family has pretty much jumped over to the Silver and Black,” said Scott. “My buddies still love their teams, but my family is all Raider fans now.”

And while it’s difficult for Scott’s family to get to games in person, his biggest fans are able to watch him and his Raider teammates take the field on television. “Every week they have NFL Sunday parties and watch our games,” said Scott.

Thousands of miles away from Oakland, a small town in New York has embraced the Raider Nation because of a promising young defensive lineman named Trevor Scott. His dedication to being the best has made Scott one of the NFL’s rising stars and the Potsdam product is cementing his place as a cornerstone of the Raider defense.

    Twitter coverage returns

The Raiders will open Organized Team Activities to the media Wednesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

For an inside look at practice, check out our Raiders Twitter feed at https://twitter.com/bydavidwhite, which will give live updates as things happen. The idea is to give small glimpses of what we see out there, not in-depth conclusions to jump to. So, keep that in mind.

For those new to Twitter, it’s basically Instant Messaging for all the world to see as short grafs are posted. Space is very limited, so things get abbreviated (DHB = Darrius Heyward-Bey, JaMarcus = Russell, etc.) There’s no spell check, so try to understand.

    And always, thanks for following.

    OakGlenth,
You know dam well all I said is Id rather have Bresnahan over Ryan. Even a lame brain twit like yourself knows I never EVER said Bresnahan is a fantastic DC. The difference between you & me is I dont have to lie about what you say to make a fool of you….you on the other have no choice but to lie.

Of course this statement comes from someone who thinks Chuck Bresnahan is a fantastic Defensive coordinator. Unfortunately, no one remotely associated with the NFL agrees. Of course, anyone with any idea what goes on in the planet earth would agree with much this guy posts.

Can’t Reece and Rankin get their 1000 too?

  • NoMoreFargas

Don’t trade burgess to the pat hell no , contract year let him play for his pay get double digit sacks and get his big money elsewhere.

  • http://www.actionext.com/playlist_57486.html La Milicia Negra

    NMF…

I totally disagree… trading burgess would validate the Shaunessey pick (somewhat)

we need to accumulate picks so we can get better, next season… a 2nd and a 3rd, is way better than Burgess is, do the deal Al… Burgess wont get more than 4-5 sacks anyway, because he will sit out with injuries… Trevor Scott and Richardson is okay for now, we wont win more than 6 games anyway, might as well get ready for the 2010 season…

good morning BSJ & LMN …

D-Burg is oft injured, one dimensional and disgruntled.

at this point he’s a waste of a roster spot when you’ve got Scott, Richardson, Shaughnessy & Gunheim who all need playing time to grow and develop into NFL caliber starters. hopefully not more situational pass rushers like Burgess …

we’ve never seen these guys in a game besides preseason. If we wanted a preseason beast we should have resigned Adimchinobe “Joe” Echemandu

don’t see where Gary Russell fits in either unless we cut Fargas, Lawton, Rankin and Reece. Then G-Russ would be 3rd RB and backup FB behind Neal while Oren O’Neal is on the PUP list

“What is it about soccer and fire?” — have you ever been to a Rammstein concert? if so, then you would know what kind of atmosphere it gives!…if you havent, you really lost the greatest stage-show on earth..

some weeks ago there was a fire on a staduim here in DK as well, but we have usually everything under control so it never spin out of control…

“Millard, who coached Burgess the past four seasons in Oakland, said the Raiders had a package under former defensive coordinator (and one-time Patriots linebackers coach) Rob Ryan that used Burgess as a 3-4 outside linebacker.

“I think he could make the transformation to outside linebacker because he did that in our 3-4 package,” said Millard. “We called it ‘Joker.’ We used it a lot, especially in the red zone. I really believe he can do it.”

    Dakota,

Nuggetts are done. No way Melo shoots that well again.

Seemed like the refs were letting it get WAY physical. Odom and Gasol got mugged. And they totally missed Chauncey’s foot on the sideline.

I want more Farmar and Brown, less Sasha. And where did Derek Swisher go?

    Bo,

Melo may not shoot that well again, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Chauncey go off for 30 in game 2 to make up for it. That guy is a winner and knows what his team needs and when they need it.

Lakers have to work on getting better ball movement and letting Gasol roam the paint to better establish position on the post. Lakers could hardly even get the ball into him last night. Those are things Jackson will have fixed by game 2. Lakers didn’t have much time to prepare for Denver, but now that they know what they are up against I would expect better play.

Fisher hit some clutch shots last night…we haven’t seen that much this season, but now is the right time for it.

Sasha has reverted back to his 2006 form. Ariza needs to be more aggressive with the ball.

If we win game 2 the series will be over in 5.

No actually you said I said Bresnahan is a “Fantastic” DC which is a complete lie. And i’ll say it again id rather have Bresnahan who is a complete failure of a DC over Rob Ryan who is even more of a failure.

With Bresnahan at least he has the balls to blitz, id rather lose being aggressive than go the Rob Ryan route of playing soft and getting your balls kicked in by the leagues bottom of the barrel RB’s and QB’s.

OakGlenn, if you stop making stupid post in here I wont have to make a fool of you and then you wont have to lie about what I say….DEAL ?
