Finally, it looks like the Ochocinco for Bush trade has finally gone down, just like I have been reporting!!!
Matt Aug – AHN Sports Editor
Los Angeles, CA (AHN) – Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco expects a better season for himself in 2009. A season in which he will start with a new outlook and a new team, pending league approval of a trade that will send Oakland Raiders’ running back Michael Bush to Cincinnati.
He is currently working hard in L.A. practicing running routes and getting into top physical shape before joining the Oakland Raiders in late June for mandatory minicamp.
Humility has not always been a trait one would pair with the receiver formerly known as Chad Johnson, yet it is precisely what he considers himself.
“Last year was very humbling for me; it was an embarrassment,” Ochocinco told the NFL Network. “It’s not just for myself, but for the city of Oakland and the team. So before I go, I want to be in just unbelievable form before I even touch the green grass.”
The Bengals were unbelievable in a bad way last season and are looking to improve by dumping the often disgruntled receiver.
Ochocinco also had a flat campaign, nabbing just 53 passes for 540 yards.
Although Ochocinco missed three games last season, he caught 40 fewer passes for 900 fewer yards than 2007.
With five straight seasons of 87-plus catches before 2008, Ocho deserves the benefit of the doubt that he can turn things around.
But another poor season, and people will wonder if Ochocinco’s number is up. Ochocinco responded to the trade in his usual humble manner when he said, “I hope Mr. Davis lives another twenty years because I’m going to be sitting right next to him and Jim Otto in that luxury box after my hall of fame induction.”

Why bother?

You’ve been punked KoolKell!!! LMAO
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:14 pm
“Former Raiders executive Mike Lombardi reported on his National Football Post blog that the Raiders made another trade proposal to the Patriots involving Derrick Burgess. The Raiders reportedly asked for offensive lineman Sebastian Vollmer, the Pats’ second-round choice in the recent draft, and backup quarterback Kevin O’Connell.”
***********************************************
Why would we want another QB and cast-off O-liner? Just trade the guy for the second, which I can’t even fathom would be possible. I would take a 4th in 2013 for him.

I’m not a fan of the Jonas Brothers but this video is so freakin funny that I had to share it. If you’re going to be grumpy about it and not laugh, then don’t bother.

408Raider – I sent you a great link to your email. A must see….check it out.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:20 pm
24, that video is midly amusing, if you are 10 years old.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:21 pm
Burgess is relatively cheap. Why not get a contract year out of him, instead of some prospect?
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:21 pm
Is that considered humor? I mean, the spoof of it all is kind of clever, but after LMAO at David Alan Grier’s standup this past weekend, the bar is set a little too high for that clip, 24. But thanks for trying…..I guess.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:24 pm
I guess I’ve been pretty hard on the trolls over the years.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:25 pm
I say it is 50/50 what type of year Burgess is going to have anyways, not to mention Al might pull a god-father move and have him not played much this year for whatever bizzare reason.
One potentially good year from Burgess, or a cheaper younger version for at least 3 years in the future……I’ll take the youth.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:26 pm
I wonder about Stanford Routt.
He got called to task for slacking last year. Brought in and showed his game films and admonsihed. He should have been the heir apparent for the #2 slot when Hall was sent packing but was questionable even at nickle.
Gonna need him to step it up this year…
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:27 pm
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECHAM I AM
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:28 pm
Burgess stays.
No way a team brings him on now. They might look next year if he snags double digit sacks in 09′, but Oakland would be better served if he stays and auditions for a mega contract in 2010.

Trevor Scott.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:32 pm
Come on Nmamdi, you really think Burgess couldn’t go during the May OTA’s due to that bogus “flu-like symptons”? Al has him on ice so he doesn’t get hurt and ward-off any potential suitors. If Al can’t get his ridiculous asking price for him, he will linger in the background as the youngsters play.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:33 pm
You never know with Al Davis these days.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:51 pm
Ok…the video was so dumb, it made me laugh. I guess I was 10 years old for about 5 minutes but its all good. The point was…it was stupid and I had to laugh and I was hoping to share the humor whether it be mild or more then that.

Madden was on Channel 7 playing Bocce Ball.
June 3rd, 2009 at 6:57 pm
Gunheim may surprise some this year,if he proves he can play the run,he may even start, hes has a great bull-rush and a high motor, he will without doubt move above Richardson on the depth chart
the rookie te Myers,is under the radar right now,but he`s an above average pass-blocker and could end up being the key to this offences success by releasing Miller and allowing more use of the one-back offence, with Bush in the back-field
two sleepers i will be looking out for to make an immediate impact
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:04 pm
If Gunheim and Myers provide ANY impact to each of their units it would indeed be a huge boost.
This whole two TE set is a little overblown, IMO. First of all, he is a rookie, he more than likely is going to struggle in blocking assignments, at least in the beginning of the year. Second, for a two TE set to really work, our run game has to be a serious threat AND we have to been in games or even better, leading them. A two TE set while we are down 17 points or with Fargas in the backfield getting 2 yards and a cloud of dust isn’t going to dictate anything to the opposing D.

if you watch the tampa game,TC ran alot of two stuff…a few times dmac was split, and we ran play-action from it,which scared the hell outa Kiffin and it opened up everything for Bush….you just dont use it exclusively
Miller blocked ok as a rookie te
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:23 pm
If I had to say anything to Fargas I would thank him for his hardwork and determination and I am sad that it didn’t go to a better cause than 5 losing seasons. With that being said, I prefer to take a ride in the new car, so-to-speak.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:26 pm
Moose,
We were in the game and leading for some of it and the running game was a big threat. In those types of situations, the two TE can be very useful. The two TE set wouldn’t have done us any good in the season opener, SD road game, NE, CAR, ATL, NO and Balt games.
If we are utilizing the two TE set, we will be in a great situation. I am just worried we are going to have be playing too much catch up for it to be a huge threat, and the guy is 7th round pick to begin with. Bigger fish to fry, IMO, but nothing you said is inaccurate.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:29 pm
DMC: Ferrari
Bush: Hummer
Fargas: Corolla
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:38 pm
No doubt that the two tight end set was what they were trying to do last year with the signing of Troupe , but that never panned out. This season the running game will be the priority to set up the pass. Then eventually work in more passing packages as Russell gets more comfortable. But, running the ball first will be the plan.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Hopefully we can get more first downs next year and sustain drives, so we can do more of EVERYTHING. Passing to WR’s, Mike Bush, two TE sets, Wildcat, D-Mac on screens, etc.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:50 pm
If the o-line plays better (no penalties to stall drives) the 3 and outs will go away and build some confidence. Then they will become more competitive or even contend.,`
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:55 pm
I’m ready to contend Lynn!!! I keep looking at our schedule and with a few breaks I see 6-8 wins, and after a few captain and cokes I see 8-10 wins, LOL.
June 3rd, 2009 at 7:58 pm
If Mike Bush is so great or a Hummer as Mr Koolaid himself puts it, how is it that last year while being totally healthy he had 10 games of 3 or less carries?? I am sorry, but if he was any good he would have been on the field more. Period. One game does not a season make. The list of guys who had one big game only to drift away like a fart in the wind is long and undistinguished.
June 3rd, 2009 at 8:17 pm
Justin Fargas gathered in a short pass with a one-handed grab to which Isaiah Ekejiuba reacted with astonishment, given Fargas’ below-average pass-catching skills.
————————————————————–
Ha even his teammates are amazed when he does anything above avg.
June 3rd, 2009 at 8:18 pm
I’m thinking 9 wins this year. Barring critical injuries.

===============================
Ho-kaaaay…
How you correlated the two I don’t know. I never said or inferred anything close to resembling what you’re talking about.
could be an opinion I guees, but why direct it at me? Because I mentioned Burgess?
Its no secret at ALL that Burgess opts out of most “vouluntary” team activities. So what?
And exactly what is Al asking for him? Do you know? Seriously, cuz I don’t.
“linger in the background”?
You mean during camps and pre? Yeah, I would think that would be true but again, no shocking revelation there.
If you mean during the regular season, then yes again. Since he’s proven injury prone and an un even (I’m being generous) run defender, it would make sense to use him again as a situational pass rusher.
MY comment was simply that rumors of a trade are simply that.
Rumors.
Have teams inquired? Likely. Does that mean offers have been made? Probably. Does that mean a deals imminent? No.
Burgess stays.
Burgess plays.
Burgess buys cheap knock off duty free trinkets for his family on his way home from the Pro Bowl next year in Miami.
June 3rd, 2009 at 8:34 pm
love Jmarcus to really get a hold of the hurry-up offence, and come out blazing in the 1st half, to take advantage of his arm and create mis-matches with our speed, the first 10/15 plays should be scripted for each opponent…no returning to the coaches so often this season,it disrupts, and gives the defence time to rest and prepare…he must punish teams by getting to the LOS quickly and controlling things from there and nailing his audibles.
speed alone, cant win,but it can if it gets a jump on you or your not ready for it…we shouldnt even use a huddle in the 1st quarter.we are being too nice on offence by just strolling to the LOS…we need to play on the edge ,the Raider way and it looks like this coach understands that……if Jamarcus starts doing the peyton manning thing..you watch how fast they change the rules
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:05 pm
I can’t remember the Raiders ever being fancy enough to run a no-huddle.
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:12 pm
So your saying that Mr Puppett himself Tom Cable is the man to lead this team out of the doldrems, eh? LOL!! Puhhhhlease
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:28 pm
Nmamdi,
You said, “No way a team brings him on now”. I took that as no team would trade for him, thus a chance of trade is very unlikely. I whole-heartedly disagree, and took all the, yes, rumors mixed with his “flu-like” absence as bogus. Rumors are that the Raiders have been, and still are aggressively seeking a trading partner. I believe it, even if a trade ultimately doesn’t go down.
I mean “linger in the background” as in not playing much this year, whether injury, production or falling out with those in charge as reasons, whether it is one of those options or a combination of all.
Your right hee does usually opt out, but usually he is a no-show like this week, not standing on the sidelines with a towel over his head with the “flu”. When has he ever done that?
None of us know what Al is asking for, but based on previous examples when he usually asks for way too much, pretty much a known fact, I don’t think it is too far-fetched that is the case again.
Why are you playing dumb about why I directed it at you? I commented on Burgess being potentially traded, and you replied back within a few minutes that he won’t be. Don’t know why there would be a confusion there.

June 3rd, 2009 at 9:40 pm
Tom Cable is not a puppet!
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:44 pm
He basically only speaks in “Al”. Always using the same stupid mantras and archaic philosophies. Tom Cable got the Raider job because he did some major arse kissing at the end of last year. He would have NEVER sniffed a head job in the NFL if he didnt go on the campaign trail for the Raider gig.
June 3rd, 2009 at 9:49 pm

Did you like Kiffin? Or any HC over the last 7 years?

NFL offseason winners, losers and awards ~Alex Marvez
fox nfl senior writer~
Biggest Losers:
Denver: The offseason began in disastrous fashion with the franchise’s alienation of Cutler. It hasn’t gotten any better. The Cutler situation became so toxic that someone who should have been the franchise’s cornerstone player was traded to Chicago (more details below). Some of Denver’s free-agent signings were head-scratchers as well. The grace period already has ended for first-year head coach Josh McDaniels before he has even coached a game.
WORST TRADE:
Denver trading Cutler to Chicago for two first-round picks, a third-rounder and quarterback Kyle Orton.
The Bears no longer have questions at quarterback. The Broncos do. Orton — who was never in Cutler’s league during four seasons in Chicago — may not beat out Chris Simms for a starting spot.
WORST RE-SIGNING:
Washington giving cornerback DeAngelo Hall a six-year, $55 million contract with $23 million in guaranteed money.
Yes, the same DeAngelo Hall who was such a washout in Oakland last season that he was cut after eight games even though the Raiders had signed him to their own massive contract. Hall is a good player but not that good.
MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT:
Pittsburgh linebacker James Harrison’s rationale for declining a White House invitation celebrating the Steelers’ Super Bowl XLIII victory over Arizona.
Harrison said this to Pittsburgh television station WTAE: “If you want to see the Pittsburgh Steelers, invite us when we don’t win the Super Bowl. As far as I’m concerned, he would’ve invited Arizona if they had won.” No word on whether Harrison also knows that the Super Bowl winner — and not the loser — is given the Lombardi Trophy.

you guys are going to laugh at me, but i’m telling the truth …
My best friend lives in Roseville. We hung out a lot before I moved from Lodi, CA to Missouri. He used to live in Stockton. HUGE Raider fan. We went to a bunch of games together. I even flew out in August ‘07 to go to a preseason game with him, his wife and my wife. My wife is from MO so she’d never been to a Raider game before in Oakland. Good time. We beat the Cards. Andrew Walter & Echemandu were impressive in that game.
Anyways, my buddy called me last night (left a v-mail) said he and his wife got a new gym membership. Found out Freddy B. goes to that gym daily from 2pm – 3pm! He hasn’t met him or talked to him yet (just joined yesterday) but I thought that was pretty cool. If he gives me any info i’ll relay it to you guys …

good friendships never die though. I moved from Cali 3 years ago and two of my best buddies from CA still keep in touch weekly. sometimes more often than that (during football season. haha) one of them flew out to MO just to be a groomsman in my wedding

Gruden talking about JaMarcus and Hackett….
From espn.com
“Former Oakland and Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden — who will be part of ESPN’s Monday Night Football broadcast team — chimed in on the quarterback situation in Oakland on SIRIUS NFL Radio.
Gruden believes the Raiders need to go with JaMarcus Russell instead of Jeff Garcia to start the season.
“I think they gotta go with JaMarcus Russell,” Gruden said.
“He’s the No. 1 pick in the draft. They’ve added Paul Hackett who I think is an outstanding coach. He’s a tremendous quarterbacks coach. No one talks about the addition of Paul Hackett. I think he’s going to really reach out and help JaMarcus Russell. But they’ve got a lot invested in him. This is only his third season. This is the time where JaMarcus Russell has to explode onto the scene. Hopefully [Darren] McFadden, Darrius Heyward-Bey, some of his young support system, can help him, because he does have great ability throwing the football.”.

Actually, it was in Aug. He came with Casper, Branch, a few others. Large Raider fanbase here believe it or not. DHB out with a bad hammy
Raiders first-round draft pick Darrius Heyward-Bey is back for OTAs but still not practicing because of a sore right hamstring.
Heyward-Bey injured the hamstring during the May 8-10 minicamp. He missed the first week of OTAs because his college class had yet to graduate and, now that he’s back remains sidelined.
Raiders coach Tom Cable described the injury as “soreness” and expects DHB back by next week.
By the way, none of that downtime was used to work toward getting a contract signed. DHB said his agents have yet to open talks with the Raiders and does not know when those talks will begin.
Last year, first-round pick Darren McFadden signed on June 6 — a stark contrast to 2007 first-rounder JaMarcus Russell’s holdout into September.

OTA notes and quotes
** Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell looked better, and the numbers seem to back it up.
He still hovered around 50% as a completion rate but there were far fewer truly horrible throws that were nowhere near a target. Russell had no interceptions and one touchdown pass.
His backup Jeff Garcia was not at practice for family reasons. Could it be Russell felt more relaxed without Garcia breathing down his neck?
We have no idea. Russell declined to speak with reporters after practice.
** Speaking of roll call, defensive tackle Tommy Kelly and running back Darren McFadden were not at voluntary practice for unspecified reasons — a first for both this offseason.
Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha is the one who’s absence is starting to get noticed. He has stayed away from voluntary workouts in recent years — presumably as his only recourse in lieu of the sort of long-term contract he wanted.
Now that he’s the highest-paid player in the NFL (per year average), some are wondering if Asomugha shouldn’t be here as a leader for an increasingly young team.
Give Asomugha this — he trains on his own and has never shown up at training camp out of shape or unprepared. Joining his teammates now would be more about bringing a leader’s presence.
Cable said he hopes Asomugha comes by for the last two weeks of OTAs, or at least the final week.
Fellow cornerback Chris Johnson was in attendance Wednesday after missing the first media-access OTA.
** The Raiders came back from a week off feeling a little healthier.
Center Samson Satele took his first snaps since signing with the Raiders. Back from shoulder surgery, Satele is starting with the second-team offense behind John Wade for now.
Tight end Zach Miller (hernia surgery) and left guard Robert Gallery are also slowly being worked back in.
Still out: wide receivers Javon Walker (knee) and Arman Shields (knee), defensive end Jay Richardson (knee), defensive tackles Ryan Boschetti (pectoral muscle) and Gerard Warren (pec) and offensive tackles Mark Wilson (back spasms) and Paul McQuistan (knee).
** Mario Henderson continues to dominate the number of left tackle snaps. Khalif Barnes missed a lot of time getting a hand strain wrapped by the trainers’ staff, Cable said.
** Very little deep passing, but the receivers often ran long routes to draw away a cornerback and safety to create space underneath — a snapshot of what the passing game will be like next season.
That’s another way of saying the tight ends and running backs will probably catch more balls underneath than the receivers for a second straight year. There will be more opportunity for deep strikes, but they’ll pick and choose their shots.
** On defense, strongside linebacker Jon Alston was all over the place in the passing game once again — but Cable cautioned not to read too much into his first-team action. referring to him as a “good third-down backer.”
Ricky Brown continues to work in the middle with Cable calling him the most well-rounded linebacker pushing for playing time.
** Just to make it clear, Cable said that though Garcia was brought in to create a quarterback competition, there is no quarterback competition.
At least not yet.
“Our decision’s made,” Cable said. “JaMarcus is our quarterback. There’s no issue there, there’s no decisions needed to be made there. What we have to do is get to camp and have that compeittion you’re talking about. This is a learning time. The competition will really get rolling when we get to Napa.”
So, there is no quarterback competition. Until there is.
** Rookie safety Mike Mitchell still can’t practice because Ohio is still in school (league rules). No word on when school gets out.
** Rookie wide receiver Louis Murphy was spotted fielding punts, but not to push for Johnnie Lee Higgins’ job.
Murphy dropped a long, high pass during practice and wanted to improve on catching tall, underthrown passes.
“I wanted to get some deep balls where I have to stop and go back to get the ball,” Murphy said. “That’s pretty much it.”
Of course, the simpler solution is to have the passes hit him in full stride downfield, but give the vertical game some time.
** Quote of the day: “I’d rather fish any time.” — Cable, when asked about his golf score from Monday’s Fred Biletnikoff golf tournament.

S&B: what did I tell you? tons of OL & DL guys are injured. I’ll give you the same advice you always give us. They are just OTA’s, don’t read too much into it!
Just for the record though, I hope you’re right. I hope Mario Henderson tears it up and becomes a dominant LT for the next 10 years …
June 4th, 2009 at 8:16 am
The Raiders and Barnes better realize we need him to play RT, and there may be a learning curve so he needs to start taking reps there right now.
Dumbest team in America.
June 4th, 2009 at 8:17 am
I agree with Cable. I’d rather fish than golf
If Alston is a 3rd down LB who excels at playing against the pass I assume Ricky Brown will start at SAM linebacker and be in on 1st & 2nd down. He’s a tackling machine. Cable calls him the “most well-rounded linebacker” of the bunch!
June 4th, 2009 at 8:24 am
Good morning–
Looking at the opponents this year, the Raiders don’t face any prolific passing attacks with elite receiving talent with the exception of Houston and San Diego.
Nnamdi and C.J should be able to effectively manage receivers from:
Denver – shutdown last gm and Kyle Orton
K.C – No Tony G to deal with..focus on Bowe
NYG – No Plaxico…who’s the receivers there?
Redskins – Nothing stands out
Eagles – speedy guys, but not physical guys
Cowboys – Roy Williams….no problem
Jets – rookie QB and no Coles
Bengals – Ocho is on the downside
Browns – no one (Edwards is no big deal)
Ravens – Again, Mason…but he’s older
Steelers – Ward and Holmes are manageable
So the Raider secondary SHOULD be able to manage these guys. They shut down Andre Johnson and none of the receivers above are in that class.
Chargers and Texans have the potential to present some problems for the Raiders secondary.
So once again, its going to really come down to that front 7 and its ability to force opponents to throw the ball. Force them into more 3rd and longs…force the opponent to become one-dimensional. Otherwise, the Raider defense could be setting itself up for long-time consuming 15 play drives where it gets pounded into the ground and put off-balance by playaction.
Dwayne Board, Mike Maulchak and John Marshall have some work to do

Wilfork Pondering Skipping Mandatory Minicamp
Posted by Aaron Wilson (PFT)
New England Patriots absentee nose guard Vince Wilfork has been making a recurring statement regarding his unhappiness about his unsettled contract situation by skipping voluntary workouts.
Now, Wilfork is contemplating whether to up the ante in his business dispute with the Patriots.
According to the Boston Herald, Wilfork told reporters today that skipping next week’s mandatory minicamp is an option he’s considering.
“If I have to, I will,” Wilfork said. “We’ll see. … I’m a professional. I don’t care how long I sit or I stay away from football. I’m staying positive about the whole situation. Whatever happens, happens.
“I’m not losing sleep over it. This is the business part. I hate it, but at the same time, I have to look out for Vince Wilfork. That’s the bottom line. That’s what it comes down to.”
Wilfork is entering the final year of his contract. He didn’t set a specific timetable for his return.
“I don’t know when I’m going to be stepping on the field but I can tell you I’m going to be ready for the first game of the season,” Wilfork said. “I hate not being there. It hurts me not to be out with my guys. I hate not being with my guys more than anything, but the time will come.”
Wilfork added that he’s working out hard and staying in shape.
Per Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe, Wilfork said that his status remains a fluid situation.
Judging by his comments, Wilfork sounds pretty committed to making his point.
“My main thing is that Vince Wilfork is looking out for Vince Wilfork, point-blank,” Wilfork said. “Whatever it may be. If it calls for me to miss something I’m going to miss it because I look towards the future. That’s how I’m going to roll. Something may change in a couple of days, something might not change.
“I’ll take it day by day. I’m looking out for my family and myself. That’s the bottom line. I may pop up. I may not. I don’t know. I’m staying positive with everything. As far as people that are wondering what’s going on with me let me just assure you that I’ll be ready to play football. I’m a professional and I look forward to playing football.”
When it comes to contract stalemates, it’s hardly ever a positive thing when a professional athlete begins referring to himself in the third person.

Vince Wilfork doesn’t have the leverage. He can either play and get paid or sit and get nothing and watch Brace take his job. The Pats are smart about it, they are going to force Wilfork to play under his current contract in 2009 and take the year to evaluate Brace. If they think Brace can play Wilfork’s role they will trade Wilfork after the season and play the cheaper player rather than pay Wilfork loads of cash.
Damn Pats, those bastards are good.

good question. Warren is injured. could we come up with an injury settlement? It’d be cheaper than paying him starter money, right? Signing Wilfork means giving him a new contract – just like Boldin. If we trade for him and refuse to pay him, he’ll sit out for us just like he did for them. He’s not unhappy with the Pats as a team. He’s unhappy about his pay. problem is how much more money does he want? We could give him a decent contract. something more than Warren and the same or less than Kelly. If he wants to be the 2nd highest paid DT in football (behind Haynesworth of course) then we might as well wait and draft a DT next year – wishful thinking I know. At least Wilfork is a proven player.
June 4th, 2009 at 8:55 am
To me this is easy.
Derrick Burgess and a 1st round pick for Vince Wilfork. Then make Wilfork a top 5 NT and be done with it.
June 4th, 2009 at 8:55 am
But it won’t happen because the Raiders think Gerard Warren and Terdell Sands are elite players
June 4th, 2009 at 8:56 am
“Former Raiders executive Mike Lombardi reported on his National Football Post blog that the Raiders made another trade proposal to the Patriots involving Derrick Burgess. The Raiders reportedly asked for offensive lineman Sebastian Vollmer, the Pats’ second-round choice in the recent draft, and backup quarterback Kevin O’Connell.”
——————————————————-
How would this deal help us now? I don’t know anything about Vollmer and who needs back up O’Connell? I don’t think this helps our situation. I would let Burgess play out his contract year. When not injured he can do some things to disrupt the QB. After this year, let the guy walk.
Why empower the Pats anymore? Heck we gave them Randy “Candy” Moss for peanuts to fill a need. Now we are going to give them Burgess for a watered down beer to wash down those peanuts.
I hope one day the Raiders learn how to trade to benefit our team instead of the other teams in the NFL.
June 4th, 2009 at 8:57 am
NFL-caliber starters I would consider packaging with Burgess for Wilfork:
> Barnes
> Richardson
> Warren
> Morrison
> Lechler
> Jano
But the best outcome would be to couple DBurg with a high draft pick instead. Wilfork is a proven DT commodity, and Al is only going to draft speedy skill players with POTENTIAL to be all-pros. For every genious pick (Asomugha), Al will draft two disappointments (Huff/Gallery). It would be nice to invest that money in a proven player who can address our current glaring weakness: run defense.
To quote Wimpy, “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.”
June 4th, 2009 at 8:58 am
I still can’t imagine the Patriots trading Wilfork…the key NT to their 3-4 defense, in a year where they have a great chance to return to the Super Bowl. Just doesn’t make sense for them to do it. I can’t imagine they have that much faith in a rookie.

BSJ,
I agree with your post 100% and would be willing to depart with any of the players on the list. I could see the Pats happy with Morrison or Lechler….the rest I doubt.
You were more on point with your comments…”Al is only going to draft speedy skill players with POTENTIAL to be all-pros” So let’s skip that drama and dump Burgess, who is older and underperforming AND DOESN’T WANT TO BE HERE and get a good Defensive Tackle. A position the Raiders haven’t filled with a decent talent since Ted Washington.
31st against the run!!!
All wishfull thinking. No way such a deal happens. And to think the Patriots traded up for our pick to grab Ron Brace…sigh

That’s why I am partial to a rookie salary cap. High rated rookies don’t have a choice of what team they will join. They are assigned, for better or for worse, with the team that drafts them.
At least the higher salaries paid to day 1 draft picks forces teams to at least try to develop them.

My god nhamdi is so classy imagine you’re him the best cb and they bring in and give a kings ransom to d-hall , never a word never let his game slip he and lechler are the 2 Raiders who most deserve us to get great again

Why not give them a top pick too. Wilfork is far better than Burgess and a few years younger too.
It doesn’t matter though. Such a trade would never happen. The Raiders don’t value tough physical play. The Raiders are a speed and finesse team. I am not saying finesse and speed is a bad thing. Just need to make sure the scheme and playcalling match it. Which is why it perplexes me to no end why the Raiders rarely use blitz packages to take advantage of such speed and finesse.

San Diego Chargers *** Chambers, Jackson, Gates
at Kansas City Chiefs *** Bowe, Engram (impressive in 2007 – injured last year)
Denver Broncos *** Marshall, Royal, Scheffler
at Houston Texans *** Johnson, Walter, Daniels
at New York Giants *** Smith, Hixon, Boss (Manningham, Moss, Nicks or Barden could step up and replace Burress/Toomer)
Philadelphia Eagles *** Jackson, Maclin, (Curtis & Brown were injured last year)
New York Jets *** Cotchery, Stuckey, Keller
at San Diego Chargers *** SAA (don’t forget about Sproles!)
BYE WEEK
Kansas City Chiefs *** SAA (Mark Bradley isn’t a bad #2 WR)
Cincinnati Bengals *** Johnson, Coles, Henry
at Dallas Cowboys *** Williams, Crayton, Witten
at Pittsburgh Steelers *** Ward, Holmes, Miller (Sweed?)
Washington Redskins *** Moss, Randle El, Cooley (Thomas, Kelly or Davis from last years draft?)
at Denver Broncos *** SAA (Brandon Stokley isn’t a bad #3 WR)
at Cleveland Browns *** Edwards, Patten, Cribbs (Robiskie or Massaquoi?)
Baltimore Ravens *** Mason, Clayton, Heap (LJ Smith?)

Don’t they run a 3-4?
I’m sure they intend for Brace to play right away as a 2nd rd pick, so maybe Wilfork isn’t all you think he is?

post #194 should show that Nnamdi Asomugha & Chris Johnson do NOT have easy tasks in ANY game next season.
Don’t forget some of these teams with scrub WR’s are run first smashmouth offenses (Chiefs, Jets, Giants, Browns) Larry Johnson, Thomas Jones, Brandon Jacobs, Jamal Lewis …

June 4th, 2009 at 9:53 am
Post 194 does not have one receiver on there that Nnamdi can’t shut down…or at worse…keep under control. C. Johnson can manage the other side.
The key is pass rush to force QBs into making mistakes AND stopping the doggone running game so that the secondary can focus on coverage and not run support.
The Front 7 is the key for a defensive turnaround. D-Line has to absorb blockers and the linebackers have to get their hats in the gaps and make plays.
Otherwise it will be more of the same.
June 4th, 2009 at 9:54 am
I’d rather have one of the 2nd rd picks in next year’s draft than Vollmer.

lets look at this a back up RT tackel prospect…..(thought he was a QB geuss not) never going to be a LT and might not even be able to play RT maybe better suited a G.
Wilfork- prety self explanitory VERY good at clogging running lanes and would make our whole D better imagine our LB’s being able to play with out ol getting to the second level!!!! AWESOME!!!!!
2nd round pick~ Davis would just waste this pick on a fast DB WR or RB gauranteed!!!! this would cost us to much to get with to little in return!! unless Davis Promises to tak ethe best lineman Available Im not sure a second round pick for davis to waste is a good option.
But…..
Burgess, Kelly, Schilens, Henderson, Bush
Burgess~ sure he is the trade bait!
Kelly ~sure if we want to be able to afford another top 10 player in wilfork!
Schielns~hmmm intriging one here with all the talent we just added he may be expendable but would hate to see him flourish in NE like Moss, Welker and Co.
Henderson~ummm you mean our starting LT the guy we NEED to protect Jruss if not him then who??
Bush~ did we draft some no name Bush in the 7th round this year?? Cause Iknow you cant be talkin bout Mike bush this kid is part of our future “thunder&lightning”

a bunch of guys are getting crazy about the question. I’m just trying to throw out some scenarios here people
obviously a trade would have to benefit both teams – not just the Raiders. The questions was basically thrown at S&B anyways. I know that stopping the run was his #1 priority. Justed wanted to see if he would be willing to part ways with a few building blocks on offense to solidify the D-Line. guess not!
June 4th, 2009 at 10:12 am
I here ya RRS …
Personally, I would stand pat with what we have. If The Patsies want to give us a 2nd or 3rd for Burgess, fine. But outside of that, no trades. I’d use Burgess the way we used Clemmons, as a situational pass rush specialist. In a contract year, I see that producing double digit sacks. In the meantime. This is the year to see if Gunhiem and Scott are the answers at DE.
Play the young guys!
June 4th, 2009 at 10:12 am
Rockstar,
DHB is a big ole question mark. I was not for drafting a receiver high because I believe that Schilens has the ability to develop into a bonnafide #1 receiver. So that’s why I keep him.
I keep Henderson because I believe he is capable of being a solid Left Tackle. Don’t trade those guys if you think you have one.
Michael Bush is the best running back in the AFC West. Yes, he’s better than DMAC. No way I trade him and have Fargas’ 2 yards and a cloud of dust there to spell DMAC. Bush is a 1st round draft pick if he were re-entered into the draft.
Is stopping the run important? Absolutely! But not at the expense of gutting the key inputs to a strong offense. I would trade Burgess and a 1st Round pick for Wilfork. I would do this because Burgess wants out and because I don’t want to see the Raiders draft Taylor Mays or Eric Berry next year!
June 4th, 2009 at 10:13 am

Ahhhh.. .under stood brother and your right it has to go both ways (even tho NE owes us 1 or maybe 2 LOL) NE would want ALOT to give up a proven comodity and a future pick!! your right tho we all say stopping the run is number 1 so trading a few up and comers might be the only way to get proven talent!!

LDE – Gunhiem/Shaunessy

Agreed. especially Branch. He was drafted for special teams use. Jarrod Cooper’s replacement as ST gunner. We didn’t draft him to be our future starter at FS or SS. Huff was moved to FS last offseason and was supposed to become a star there at his natural posistion, remember? Gibril Wilson had SS locked down! No way did we think Branch was anything more than a younger Keith Davis (minus the gunshot wound)

Den DC- No way boss we have to reevaluate the game plans the Pats just traded Wilfork and a 4th rounder to oakland for burgess and oaklands second round pick!! we cant just run up the middle for 6 yrds a carry anymore!!
Den HC- SHHEEEEET I just traded away cutler b/c we didnt ever need to throw against the raiders…you mean now we have too??? CRAP!!! I suck at my new job!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Give up the necessary picks, get Wilfork, and install a max runstopping front four of Richardson/Shaughnessy, Wilfork, Warren, Kelly.
Sands, Joseph, Boschetti = rotate in at DT
Scott is a situational rusher.
I like Kelly as our base end. Why? Warren is a good 3Tech, and a healthy Kelly at base allows us to SHUT DOWN THE RUN in the first half. Can you imagine if teams realized they couldn’t run on us and expect to score? They’ll try and pass, and our LBs and DBs start making the big plays…
Now, I understand Kelly is not as mobile on stretch plays…but thats what our fast LBs are there for! Plus, Kelly CAN get pressure from the DE position. Strong AND quick. I’ve always thought Kelly’s best potential was to develop into a Reggie White type player rather than a 3Tech/Sapp type.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:16 am
The Pats don’t want our 1st round pick, they have no use for top five draft picks. If they wanted to pay someone $25-$35 million up front they would just re-sign Wilfork.

If we are able to acquire Wilfork and pay his contract demands that means getting rid of either A. Kelly or B. Warren and Sands
Can’t have 4 DT’s making starter money! Kelly is not a DE and Burgess is only making 2 million.
Burgess, Warren & Sands + 3rd round pick for Wilfork seems fair, but I don’t think the Pats wouldn’t accept Warren & Sands bloated contracts … They wouldn’t start for any team in the league outside of Oakland – not even Denver or KC!

NYG HC – We’ve got the Raiders coming in here, I figure we will focus this week’s practice on running the football. I think we go smashmouth right?
NYG OC – Not exactly Tom. Actually we’ve got a problem. Their tackle Wilfork is tough to move up the middle and their linebackers are making some plays and flying around. Its going to be hard to get our guys to that 2nd level.
NYG HC – Hmmmm see that’s gonna be a problem. Our passing attack is struggling a little bit as our receivers are quite young and inexperienced. I mean I like them…but I can’t see Nicks getting separation from that Asomugha kid…Their other guy has already made plays this year….we’ve got a problem….what do we do?
NYG OC – I don’t know yet. I am assembling the staff to do some more brainstorming. I still think we might go run heavy
NYG HC – Look, I am going to join you in this meeting. Running is not going to be easy as we thought and I really don’t want to see Eli throwing against that secondary….they can really run

I think DHB is going to be a real good WR in this league. I can’t wait to see him play. If he plays opposite of Chaz and Higgins plays flanker with DMAC filling in on some plays they may be able to do something. Not to mention Miller going over the middle man. I like DHBs attitude and confidence. Just a gut filling fellas, can’t back it up by facts.

June 4th, 2009 at 11:27 am
JHill,
Wilfork can be a stubborn run stopper and clog running lanes. More importantly he will keep LBs clean. 3/4 or 4/3 doesn’t matter. That only matters for the 1-gap penetrator types.
Warren is a 3-tech and Sands has underperformed. Look, I know there will be no trade and the Raiders have to ride with the team they got.
I am hoping like all hell that Dwayne Board has something to teach them and the offense can build those double digit leads that will “force” opponents to pas.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:31 am
S&B: the Giants could go spread offense on us and still rip us a new one …
Raiders dime package: 4 DL, Morrison, Nnamdi, CJ, Mitchell, Branch, Routt, Eugene
Giants 5 WR: Steve Smith, Domenik Hixon, Mario Manningham, Sinorice Moss, Hakeem Nicks
(maybe even Ramses Barden? a lot of Raider fans were high on him prior to the draft …)

S&B presented a scenario in which the Raiders stuffed the Giants running game and they didn’t want to pass the ball against our secondary …
June 4th, 2009 at 11:36 am
At the end of the day, you guys have to know that defense is all about attitude, and playing downhill. This team cleary has talent on the defesive side of the ball. It’s just a matter of the coaches getting their shyt together, plain and simple.
The one thing that sums it up above all else is the guy who was calling the defense, didn’t know what he was doing. How many times did you see Kirk still trying to get guys in the right position when the ball was snapped? How many times did we litterally see him looking the other way at the snap of the ball? If we are recognizing the play late, and getting into position late (the front 7 that is), then our guys are constantly playing on their heels, right?
June 4th, 2009 at 11:37 am

True Richardson is a backup, but I was talking MAX run stopping. If Scott were in opposite Kelly on all run downs, they’d truck him until he couldn’t get up.
Wilfork vs. Brace: Wilfork is PROVEN to be a stud, whereas Brace may someday be that good (no way better). Plus, NE would never give up Brace for Burgess without picks involved.
I say dump our first pick. How many unproven skill players can one team overpay?
Then again, we may need a top five pick next year if Al can’t resign Janobrewski, LMFAO.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:43 am
JHill,
I guess I am in a “show me” mode with the run defense because as you said, it is so much about attitude.
My concern given that is Rob Ryan was a pretty animated guy and I am sure he instilled a mentality to compete.
The problem, as I see it, is that while Cable has focused on “high motor” guys at DE, LB and safety…the guys that are at the DT/NT don’t appear to me to be high motor guys. I think its something you have or you don’t.
But I like the background of Board and Marshall so we will see.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:44 am

If we force the Giants to have to spread it out….we will have won the game!
***
explain this one to me. They have 6 good WR’s. 5 of which can be on the field at a time.
We have 2 shutdown corners
unless you’re thinking that the 4 DL can pressure Manning into sacks, turnovers, incompletions, etc. no blitz. There wouldn’t be a TE, FB or RB to help block for the QB. just beat the man in front of you. Isn’t that the ancient Al Davis defensive philosophy though anyways?
June 4th, 2009 at 11:47 am
The problem with the Defense, is that Al Davis is the Coordinator.
It’s his pet project.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:51 am
Rockstar,
Their receivers are not scaring anybody yet. They got guys with potential but no one that the Raiders can’t handle.
Plus if they spread it out….shouldn’t that give Scott, Shaughnessy, Tommy Kelly and Stryker an opportunity to pin their ears back and get to the QB.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:51 am
Wilfork had one good year, and that was last year.
Really, I’m just in the “let’s see what we have” camp. I really, really, really think that Ryan was a huge problem. From play calling, to personel packages, player positions, and fundamental teaching. I also believe that the DE and LB situation are our true weaknesses. Hopefully, Gunhiem and Shaunessy solve the base end problem, and Scott IS the every down RDE we need him to be.
Scott: “My biggest thing in my running game, I went home in the offseason and I really hit the weights hard because I knew that was one of my biggest things. I can run fast but I really want to hone in on my run game because I want to be out making tackles. I love tackling, too. I just don’t want to be looked at as, ‘Trevor’s out there, pass rush.’ I want to be that complete D end that can do both.”

June 4th, 2009 at 11:54 am
RRS,
You’re talking about the same Giant’s group of WRs who couldn’t get open after Plax went out?
June 4th, 2009 at 11:57 am
S&B quotes regarding the Giants WR corps:
1. who’s the receivers there?
2. receivers are quite young and inexperienced. I mean I like them…but I can’t see Nicks getting separation
3. Their receivers are not scaring anybody yet. They got guys with potential but no one that the Raiders can’t handle.
***
Isn’t that what every team is going to say about Schilens, Higgins, DHB, Murphy, Holland, Shields, Watkins, etc. ???
June 4th, 2009 at 11:58 am
How about as a consultant?
A consulting position might work in another profession, but not in pro football. There’s no such thing. They give a guy a parking spot and put his name up as a consultant, and in six months they erase the name. Guys are working 16, 18, 20 hours a day. You can’t come in and say, “When they go to cover 6 on that side, you ought to run a bob trail and then go play-action . . .” They’re not going to listen to that B.S.
———————-
I wonder how many hours per day the GM puts in?
June 4th, 2009 at 12:00 pm
Plus if they spread it out….shouldn’t that give Scott, Shaughnessy, Tommy Kelly and Stryker an opportunity to pin their ears back and get to the QB.
***
who says any of these guys are starting (besides Kelly)?
starting D-Line last year: Burgess, Kelly, Warren, Richardson
Cable said players can’t lose their job to injuries and all these guys are either sick or injured right now. Well, Kelly is still trying to get back to 100 percent. Who knows if D-Burg really had the flu?
June 4th, 2009 at 12:02 pm
Rockstar,
Yeah, the Raiders have question marks too. The difference between Oakland and NYG is that when Schilens and Higgins got playing time they were productive….when Complexico got arrested the Giants passing offense fizzled
June 4th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
Steve Smith, Domenik Hixon, Mario Manningham, Sinorice Moss & Kevin Boss combined for 149 catches, 1733 yards and 11 TD’s last year .. that’s without Burress and Toomer
Higgins, Schilens, Holland, Watkins & Miller combined for 93 catches, 1370 yards and 7 TD’s last year .. that’s without Curry and Lelie
DHB & Murphy (like Hakeem Nicks & Ramses Barden) are rookies.
Again, how do we have a better WR corps than they do?
June 4th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
Say what you want about the Giants, but they have a better Oline, good RBs, good QB, and a great Defense.

It’s not Manning. The Giants do what they always do. Run the ball and stop the run.

RaiderRockstar,
Take a look at the passing offense of the Eli and Russell after week 12…when Plaxico went down.
Eli Manning 106/175 61% 1159 6 TDs 3 INTs 84.4 rating
JaMarcus R 78/130 60% 978 7 TDs 4 INTs 88.6 rating
Now what makes these numbers as it relates to the receivers.
1. Schilens and JLH were starters for 3 of the final 6 games
2. JaMarcus’ stats include two dreadfull games (K.C & S.D) where Schilens and JLH were not starters
June 4th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
S&B: I am a firm beleiver that you have to weigh the good with the bad (ie the entire season)
4 or 5 games don’t tell the whole story.
We should know that. The Raiders haven’t won more than 5 games in 6 years!

4th question to Jerry:
don’t you think Nnamdi Asomugha should be attending OTA’s after getting that monster contract? he’s the leader of the defense and it’s not like he knows John Marshall & Lionel Washington like the back of his hand or anything

Russell, Rivers, Orton, Cassel. Where would you rank JaMarcus among these guys?

June 4th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
Russell has not demonstrated the ability to lead a pass-first offense when need-be _ that will be his big next step. The Raiders won’t be able to run against everyone.

By Mimi Hall, USA TODAY
CAIRO — President Obama called on Musl1ms, J3ws and Christians around the world Thursday to cast aside fear and mistrust in the name of a safer, more prosperous future.
In a soaring speech delivered at Cairo University, Obama sought to challenge stereotypes on all sides after a decade of violence and misunderstanding, particularly between Musl1ms and Americans, precipitated by the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
“I have come here to Cairo to seek a new beginning between the United States and Musl1ms around the world — one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect, and one based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive,” he told an audience of several thousand dignitaries, students and journalists.

This is why you don’t discuss politics. It will always result in namecalling and there is hardly an exchange of ideas. Usually just a shouting match. Rarely anything with intellectual rigor.
Most people follow sports to get away from the nonsense that passes as politics.

I think it’s easier to have candid conversations about politics and race on the internet than in person.
And if there were no name-calling here, there’d be no here.
We’re not calling name, just having a stimulating discussion.

KoolKell,
I have to disagree with you on that one. When debates are in person, people are more likely to be respectful of the opinion of others.
On the Internet, unless there are some expectations of conduct, I have seen most political/social debates degenerate into crude language coupled with a dismissive tenor.
June 4th, 2009 at 3:32 pm
Well, true enough, you can have any conversation you like. Anyway I gotta head home….see you all later

June 4th, 2009 at 3:35 pm
In person they tend to be “respectful”? Maybe, but less frank. And also less able to talk to different demographics. Many people won’t discuss it at all. I disagree.

June 4th, 2009 at 3:53 pm
Orlando is not as good defensively as the Nuggets, Rockets or even the Jazz but the Lakers tend to sit on leads and Orlando is never out the game unlike the Jazz, Rockets, and Nuggets who bowed down to the Lakers. However the sixers are terrible, Boston was depleted, and Lebron didn’t have much help so Orlando has not faced an opponent like the Lakes. Lakes are winning this series somehow someway

Funny, that sounds very peculiar …hmmm, have the Raiders every tried that??
June 4th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
What really amusing is what i’m not hearing now ….i.e. “JR suxs”, “JR is a bust” …blah, blah, blah after 1 media session practice.
I told you all not to make too much out of one practice. Just as you should make to much out of this practice (according to media, not as many deep strikes were thrown).
Just look at the silver lining ..e.g. they’re reported to be getting better overall, not worse… and withhold judgment until you see for yourself.
June 4th, 2009 at 5:43 pm
Or you can keep crying about this and that like a baby wetting its diaper.
June 4th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
Like I said earlier, JR over the last 7 games was a 91 passer. He’d have to get way worse next year to be a problem.
June 4th, 2009 at 5:53 pm
The Raiders win 9 this year.
And I’m so glad all the AFC West opponents are playing the same Defense.
June 4th, 2009 at 5:55 pm

June 4th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
If Orlando hits 3-pointers like they did vs. the Cavs, they’ll win. If they get cold from outside, they’ll lose. It’s that simple. Take Kobe out of the equation and the Magic are the much better team. Of course, Kobe is a big part of the equation, but his surrounding talent is not as good as what Dwight Howard has to work with.
June 4th, 2009 at 6:03 pm

The most I can say is that it Could be a good year – not a stellar year – but a decent/good year. Depends on a lot though.
I’m liking what I hear about Henderson likely being at LT with Barnes at RT. Just get Green outta there already. Like I have repeatedly mentioned – Henderson succeeding at LT would be a boon to this team.
Henderson (LT), Barnes (RT) surely improves the line.

The critical eye towards the future is why I would have hired you, the past will play no role in the future.
With what we know of GM, forward thinking serves your Companys interest first, and the decisions you made for your clients is valuable.

June 4th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
Davis and Kiffin’s relationship went south when Davis vetoed him and draftted Russell or Calvin Johnson, the player Kiffin wanted. Time will tell who was right. Russell still has a very high ceiling.

June 4th, 2009 at 10:03 pm

Your age won’t be a factor, your experience will be.
The people hiring you will be other CFA’S, they will only want to know what you’ve learned and area of expertise you have,(equities, real estate, banks, manufacturing, retail,etc..)
I remember passing this on to you, before you can take the third CFA test you would have had to work one year in the financial profession.
My suggestion is if you can afford to, work for free as a summer intern and gain as much knowledge to show your future employer you are ambitious in the financial field. The service shows your driven.

June 4th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
BHP,
I’m glad we agree about Brach. I see him as a Safety who will cover well since he played CB and has a lot of speed, and he likes contact. He added a few pounds since we drafted him. He would have been a 1st day pick, if it wasn’t for his off the field issue at Uconn. IMHO
June 4th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
I guess Jerry’s answer that H Eugene looks the best at safety seems to be a concern to some. WHY! That says more about Hiram than anything about the other kids. Most of the kids are very young and Hiram’s just starting understand the league is all. What most don’t get about guy’s like Hiram, CJ, Baker and players like them. They are very hungry and just as talented but their skills aren’t as polished as higher picks. But Hiram is a very gifted athlete quiet as kept. He just needed to learn the safety position. He was a corner so now things are just clicking for him. Same as T Kelly, look out for TK this year and Rickey Brown another undrafted FA. These guy’s are very gifted and they are starting to catch up to the NFL game.
Branch will be an outstanding safety IMO but he’s very young yet. You saw what Nnamdi di once he settled in at a position.
June 4th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
Add another Safety who is 6′1 220, runs a sub 4.45, and loves contact!!!
Team them with the best CB in the NFL, and a hungry 29 CB who has fresh legs.
Add a good DC, and a few young pass rushers, and what do you have??
Tell me you are not as excited as I’m!!
June 4th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Raider O, we are stacked at safety right now the competition will be fierce. Hiram will not back down in fact he will push the others I saw this kid early and he is extremely talented but he hasn’t been allowed to settle at a position. Now just like Rickey Brown and T Kelly these guy’s will push the high draft picks.
June 4th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
I can tell you are!!
June 4th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
I’m extremely excited Raider O, Guy’s like SnB just can’t see it because they didn’t get what they thought the Raiders should do. But this is a very talented defense that has underperformed and I think those days are over.
June 4th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Positions I feel good about, due to that reason:
DBs
LB
TE
RB
WR
And JR has Garcia
June 4th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
I’m going to add the Dline as a whole. I just think they get the short shrift due to the run defense.
So we’ll see
June 4th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Here is what I say to people like myself who wanted a Lineman:
DHB is better than any WR comming out next year, and next years draft will be full of good talent on both lines.
Let’s see what we do with the talent we have on both lines this year, and we can draft a few if needed next year. It will be a good year for linemen.
We are good on skill positions now, we need to work on the lines next draft.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
BHP,
I like the DLine as pass rushers, but they have to show me something against slowing the run before I can trust them again. Last few years are hard to forget, all those 100 yard rushers!!
June 4th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
Yeah, I know what you mean but I’ve watched the line and there are some tecnigue things but it’s very correctable. I’m not nearly as worried as some. Because IMO it’s more a function of the entire defense.
June 4th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
I almost forgot!
Why did you think that coach was a genius?
I googled him, and he didn’t du much in the NFL.
HC for the Rams and Chargers, and was a GM for the browns. I forgot his name, sorry.
I’m just interested, since I respect your opinion.

June 4th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
He didn’t do much in the NFL fr the reasons I mentioned. He just was not a motivator. He was a great teacher and X’s and O’s guy in fact one of the bets I’ve ever seen. I remember watching his schemes when he was with the Rams and Chargers. Then later watching other coaches succeed with those same schemes. He was truely brilliant but at this level just not a coach of grown men.
Tommy Protho at UCLA would take less talent and scare the crap out of the Bear Bryants and John McKays. But he never reached their status because he just wasn’t a motivator. If you ever see the film of Bill Walsh’s career one of the things GM’s and owners were concerned about him is he was too much of an X’s and O’s guy. GM’s didn’t think he was tough enough to coach at the NFL level. He was very similar to Tommy Protho they were thinkers. But Protho was incredible in that regard same as Bill.

You’ve been extremely excited every year the last 40 years. Thats what makes you ridiculous, you never take off your rose colored bifocals.
Having said that..We will be better than last year. I think the defense will be MUCH improved and agree with Cable that “teaching” technique will be a plus. I think they took the approach “how do you evaluate these guys under RR and left the d-line intact for “this” year.

Raider O,
Frankly I dont care what we were ranked in sacks. Teams ran on us at will and completed passes when they “chose” too.
Our run def was so poor that teams didnt have to pass but they did when they needed to. We made bottom feeder QB’s look like Elway.
The few games that RR did blitz it was effective. Strangely he didnt stick with it.

When RR was here stinking up the defense you had his back!
Now that he is gone you say we were undisciplined and technique was lagging.
You understand why you are known as a fraud and a joke, right ?

PLEASE refrain from posting anymore mistabrown. Your absolute ignorance is astounding even to casual observers. We ranked in the top third of the league last year in pass rush and that was with arguably our best pass rusher out for more than half the season. Kansas City had a “piss poor” pass rush which is why they drafted Tyson Jackson with 4th overall pick. Please, for the good of the nation, refrain from anymore more absolute absurdity. It is incredible what stupid sh** you post.

Yeah, it was funny NMF. Nelson came off the bench and added spark. Then he didn’t come back in til what…the 4th? You have to admit though, that the 4th was very sloppy on both sides. The score could have been closer, or it could have been worse.

June 5th, 2009 at 6:54 am
I see there was a pass-rush argument going on last night between priest, mista and oakglenn…
Here’s an article about the best pass-rushing teams in the NFL last season, apparently, the Raiders were one of them, even with Burguess missing a lot of time.
From Aaron Schatz of Pro Football Outsidres and the NY Times, Fifht Down Blog.
- “The difference between the powerhouse NFC East and the weaker divisions in the N.F.L. can be summed up with one word: pressure.
Only a handful of teams outside the division can muster a pass rush to equal them: the Steelers, the Vikings and the Raiders.
Wait a minute. The Oakland Raiders? The same three-win Raiders who have a below-average 25 sacks?.
Actually, yes. Numbers show that the Raiders have one of the league’s best pass rushes this season, once you get past simple totals and look at context and opportunity.
Why aren’t opposing teams afraid of Oakland getting to their quarterback? Oddly, the Oakland defensive line has only itself to blame. Its inability to stop the run is the biggest reason its ability to get to the quarterback is underappreciated.
Oakland gives up 4.5 yards a carry, ninth in the N.F.L. Passing on the Raiders is harder, mainly because the All-Pro cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha takes the opposition’s top receiver off the field. (He is the least-targeted starting cornerback in the league.)
Combine a leaky Oakland run defense with opponents that are usually sitting on a lead, and the Raiders face the run more than 35 times a game, the highest figure in the league.
Winning teams like the Giants and Cowboys get five or six more opportunities to sack the quarterback a game. Some teams, like Pittsburgh and Chicago, may get 10 more opportunities. More opportunities mean more sacks, no matter how good a pass rush is.
Oakland sacks the quarterback on 6.4 percent of pass plays. That is higher than the N.F.L. average of 6.0 percent, but it is not enough for us to say that the Raiders have one of the league’s top pass rushes. Oakland’s success at getting to the quarterback becomes more clear once context and opportunity are considered.
A poor run defense like Oakland’s leads to fewer sacks because the opposition faces fewer third-and-long situations.
We also have to consider which teams the Raiders have played. It turns out that the Raiders have faced the league’s best pass-blocking offensive lines this season, based on the average sack rate of their 13 opponents.
Oakland has played seven games against teams that rank in the top 10 for fewest sacks allowed, and not one game against the 10 teams that have allowed the most sacks (until Sunday, that is, when it hosts New England).
We can correct for these biases with a statistic called adjusted sack rate. This number combines sacks per pass play with intentional-grounding calls, which are essentially the same as sacks; they come from pass pressure and cost the offense a down with lost yardage. (No defense has more than three this season.) It then adjusts for down and distance as well as each opponent, accounting for a bad pass rush that will sack Ben Roethlisberger more than a good pass rush will sack Peyton Manning.
When analyzed in context, Oakland comes out as the fifth-best pass rush in the N.F.L. this season, with an adjusted sack rate of 7.7 percent. The Raiders rank higher than 11 teams with more total sacks, including the Giants (who rank sixth at 7.4 percent).
The four teams higher than Oakland include Pittsburgh and Dallas, which lead the league, each with 45 actual sacks, but neither comes out with the best pass rush according to adjusted sack rate. That title goes to the Vikings, with an adjusted sack rate of 9.0 percent. Minnesota, like Oakland, has faced some of the league’s best pass defenses.
Of course, no amount of context and analysis can improve the standing of a team with no pass rush. Oakland’s division rival in Kansas City has only six sacks for an adjusted sack rate of 2.8 percent.”
Stats are good, but they don’t tell the whole story, the truth lies somewehere in the middle, now if we can become just halfway decent vs the run, the pass-rush may really start to shine.

The question is, are we better off having Nnamdi taking out one side of the field or should he take out the opponents best WR?.
That would take some time to ponder, but right off the bat I say playing the field is better, keeping Nnamdi glued to one guy would limit his value as teams could use their best guy as a decoy to keep Nnamdi busy, but with 21 hanging out on the right side, they just don’t throw it that way, the field gets shorter and the offense has less space to throw as most teams simply will not challenge 21’s area, that’s less ground to cover for the LB’s and the rest of the DB’s.

Game 2 will be much tougher and closer as the 1st adjustments will be made. Kobe say the Laker’s must forget game 1. The Magic will not miss as many 3’s, though the Laker’s for the most part contested each one which was the key. They switched well and stayed with their man. Except for Fisher, the Laker’s are very quick. I still say Laker’s in 6.

With contracts hard to come by in San Diego, LB Shawne Merriman looks like odd man out
By Michael Blunda
June 4, 2009
It was widely believed that the Chargers’ first order of business this offseason would be striking a long-term deal with QB Philip Rivers, who led the league with a 105.5 passer rating and is set to become a free agent after 2009. But here it is June, and while a deal could still be in the works, it hasn’t happened yet.
Considering that two other key, young players whose contracts expire after the season — WR Vincent Jackson and OLT Marcus McNeill — haven’t been signed long-term, either, we hear the odds of LB Shawne Merriman staying in San Diego beyond this year are getting slimmer. Merriman, also a free agent after ’09, has made impressive progress after missing almost all of last season to have his knee reconstructed, but the three-time Pro Bowler is still looked down upon by many within the Chargers’ organization for his constant preoccupation with his numerous off-the-field endeavors. Before his injury in ’08, Merriman was set to make late-week, in-season trips from San Diego to Los Angeles to tape a TV show, and just last month he was absent from minicamp while reportedly vacationing in Europe. Furthermore, the Bolts sent a clear message to him by using their first-round pick on LB Larry English, Merriman’s heir apparent.
Unless drastic changes occur during the remainder of this year, it’s likely that Merriman’s ’09 season will be a showcase to prove to the rest of the league that he’s healthy as he enters free agency.
June 5th, 2009 at 7:47 am
We keep Nnamdi right were he is at on the left side. Let him do what he does best and take away the left sid eof the field. Now that Chris Johnson has stepped up he can lock down the right side and make plays on the ball. Don’t forget are linebackers are athletic and do a nice job of picking off the ball in the middle. Routt has to step up big time and Hiram Eugene is really starting to make plays as well. As for Huff this his do or die year. I don’t know what to do with that guy play him at nickel or just let him lock up with the #1 tightend on the team. This is it for old Huff & Puff.
If our running game ever tightens up we could do something.

I really like Phillip K Dick. They could go many different directions with Total Recall because the short story was only 8 pages long.
June 5th, 2009 at 9:26 am
Total Recall was okay…didn’t knock my socks off. Have you ever seen the original Solaris? The Russian movie? Caught it on IFC a couple of weeks ago and then watched George Clooney’s remake…the original was much better.
June 5th, 2009 at 9:31 am
Solaris? Yeah, but I could sit there that long, was it 3 hrs? PDK is the sci-fi author that has the most movies made after his books. Battle Star G (new series) was the best PDK show not written by him.
They butchered Minority report.

I’ve never really been into sci-fi books. I love the movies, but just never got into the books…I’m probably missing out. When I was a kid I did read about the first 25 Star Trek Next Generation books, and I read a couple of the Alien books…oh, I read all of Arthur C. Clarks space odyssey books too. Mainly I now read historical fiction, horror, and thrillers.

The new BSG explored the PDK theme of when does a machine(android) start becoming human & when does a human become machine/mindless automation. They explored the use of torture on the Cylons. Claiming they’re not human, then the Cylons acted more human than the soliders.

it kinda sounds like huff is on the back burner huh?? Cable tried to make up somethin but sounded fabercated.. he may be packaged with fargas or burgess in a deal…Im sure ol Boobby boy and Dmun26 will update us with trade winds as soon as they hear from their insider’s!….

Westbrook might be on the shelf so Philly might be in the market for a running back . Any thoughts ?
June 5th, 2009 at 10:44 am
Didn’t philly draft a RB this year?
June 5th, 2009 at 10:46 am
yes but for the future and unproven
June 5th, 2009 at 10:54 am
They drafted a RB in the 2nd RD.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:00 am
True, Fargas is proven…proven to be incapable of scoring TDs.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:06 am
7396 Carries and only 10 TDs if I remember right.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:08 am
I’m just sayin!!
June 5th, 2009 at 11:11 am
Rookie RBs can have an enormous impact right away. Not like most other positions.
Plus, if the Eagles need a fill-in for Westbrook, they will look for a RB who can catch more than a cold.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Its been pretty boring in Raider land without all the Kiffin drama from last year gone. But the SEC hasn’t been .
June 5th, 2009 at 11:12 am
Proven……
Proven to be drawn to would be tacklers
–like a heat seeking missle is drawn to the sun.

June 5th, 2009 at 11:17 am

Its not a lie if YOU believe it…

Sure,
Considering he was tied for 83rd place for most rushing touchdowns last year.

June 5th, 2009 at 11:27 am
I think, sadly, that Bush would be traded before Fargas. Seriously, I don’t think Cable cares too much for Bush. Had Fargas and DMAC not been injured in the Tampa game, the Raiders would have traded him for a 4th round pick already….okay…maybe a 3rd rounder.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:29 am
I was just thinking if Jano had rumbled all the way for a TD on the fake field goal, he could have tied our starting tailback for rushing TDs in a season.

Ha ha ha ha! Bo, that’s so funny! Equating Kyle Orton to a rented mule … genius! I’m wondering, did you go to comedy school or were you just born in the same hospital as Jim Carey?
Calling him a mule, which is like donkey, which is the derogatory nickname of the Denver Bronco is just priceless/genius. We should have to pay an admission fee to get this kind of world-class entertainment.
Bo when you go big, please remember the little people who supported you on your way up. Don’t stop believin’, cool dude!

Cable would be an idiot!!!! Not to care about Bush.
Bush had to fight his way back from being hurt and earned a spot. Once the running backs in front of him went down hurt he stepped up! I am a huge Bush fan. If they don’t get him on the field they are crazy!!!! He will go to another squad and average 1000 plus yards easy for any other team in the NFL. Except the Lions!!!!
If Bush ends up in Denver or KC we will be crying for the next 3-5 years. This guy is the real deal (power and quick feat)!
If it were me Bush and McFadden would be on the field at the same time in a number of sets.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:43 am
ouch!!!
June 5th, 2009 at 11:44 am

Oh no! They’re gonna bounce back like Oakland!
Does that mean if the series goes 16 games, the Magic will win 5?
June 5th, 2009 at 11:46 am
Not to mention Bush has some of the best hands on the team out the backfield. He can also throw a number of halfback passes. Just like McFadden this guy was a highschool QB only he had a nice arm. He played against Brian Brohm in the Kentucky HS Championship. Brohms team won I think but Bush was the one man show for his team. Passing and running at the QB position. Bush played three or four positions like all the natural skilled athletes usually do in high school.
Hey Cable – Just start playing your talent and you will win!!!!
June 5th, 2009 at 11:48 am
Orlando missed to many shots they live and die by the jumper. Plus, no one really can guard Kobi cheese.
June 5th, 2009 at 11:51 am
I have another gut filling that Murphy is going to be a good WR for the Raqiders if he does not get hurt. I think Murphy is a surprise pick for us.
wait a minute……I apologize, that gut filling was gas. : )
Sike, I think he will contribute.

So who has been racking up ALL these sacks in recent years?
Jay Richardson?
Tyler Brayton?
Burgess had 1 good season. Our pass rush sucks. You can look at all the stats you want I watch the game and see little or no pressure.
———————————————————–
that’s because you have no idea what the fook you are looking at. And as we have discussed many many times, being passed out in a dumpster covered in your own bile, is not watching the game.
