After reviewing last season i`m quite sure if we had started off with Mario Henderson at left tackle and Chris Johnson as our second cornerback,Chaz Schilens instead of Ronald Curry. We could have possibly been 8-8 or even 9-7. To many times drives were killed by Kwame “Worst of all time” Harris.Deangelo Hall was the worst bump and run corner ever and Ronald Curry couldn`t catch a cold in a blizzard. I`m not saying that we are going to the super bowl this year but we have a lot to be optimistic about. In the offseason we addressed the tackle positions as well as wide reciever which we needed more than anything. The acquisition of Lorenzo Neal is huge. on passing plays he is like another lineman and he is one of the best blocking fullbacks in history.Dmac will have a breakout year if healthy. I am most optimistic about JRuss, last year was really his rookie year and he got better as the year progressed. They finally took the training wheels off towards the end of the season and we saw the quarterback we hoped he would be.look for Zach Miller to have a pro bowl season because he won`t need to stay in and block on passing downs.Hopefully are new D coordinator will use more disgiused bllitzes and Burgess will have double digit sack numbers due to this being a contract year. On running plays we should be able to stack to box with 2 lockdown corners. To me the ? is our D-line. If the new D coordinator can teach our LB`s not to over pursue so backs can`t cut back for long gains like last year then we will be competitive and challenge for a AFC crown and more we shall see.

As hard as our schedule is, the rest of our division has to play those same teams right? We got screwed in the sense that we have to play a lot of road games in December in cold weather cities, but if we can tough it out in the cold and just come away with one of those games, I think we can make a serious run at the division, and it's like Cable sais, "Once you get into the tournament (playoffs), anything can happen." It will be crucial that we sweep the Chiefs and Donkeys, but I don't think that is too far out of the realm of possibility. It will be intiresting to say the least. I can't wait until the season man, I'm going crazy.

Raider O,

That’s what people probably said in Idaho after his first season. After 4 full seasons he was 11-35 (and lost 4 games to schools in lower divisions, lol). I know Al didn’t know any of this when he hired him as HC, but hey, Al isn’t big on logic.

I have a feeling that when all is said and done in the Tom Cable era people will be saying Tom Cable was who we thought he was! (Dennis Green). Nice guy in over his head.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

More telling than his Idaho gig is his time as OC at UCLA. Better athletes and competition there, and since his playcalling is a huge worry, we should look at his stats:

2004: averaged 410 yds./game on offense; total rushing yards nearly doubled over 03, going from 1,195 to 2,219.

2005: averaged 431 yds./game; fifth in nation in scoring (39.1); 23rd in nation in passing yards per game.

AND as OC at Colorado in 1999, his offense was ranked 14th nationally at 424 yds./game

One can cherry pick his Idaho record and remain pessimistic. But at Idaho he ran a West Coast offense (yards were still 400+). I'd say his playcalling skills are reflected much more accurately in the instances listed above.

Mista,

I bought a JR jersey to show my support, and that I believe he can be great.
Also, they were out of my size in the DMC jersey!

I think it is inappropriate to call J Russell a bust after what was basically his rookie season as a starter under extremely dysfunctional circumstances. It is also inappropriate to refer to Tom Cable as a “dipschit” after his rookie season as a head coach under the same circumstances. He tried some bonehead stuff to make something happen…and learned from it. Just like J Russ, he got better as the season progressed. He LOVES being a Raider, can work with the Owner under the “Raider” system, is apparently a good motivator. I anticipate improvement, not miracles, on both sides of the ball. Get ready to be impressed.

^^^^^^
It's not just inappropriate....it's flat out STUPID!

Oakglenn

How do you feel now that you can’t impersonate other bloggers?

Still frustrated?

Actually I am not frustrated at all with this blog. What are you doing starting up with me? Seems to me you have enough problems on this blog.

Priesttj and others,

My posts 117 and 118 got you a little animated. I didn’t necessariy give an opinion on the Raider run defense…I simply compared the offseason responses of various teams and compared them to the Raiders.

I am hoping Marshall, Board and the LB coach can get these guys more disciplined than the prior coaches. I just find it interesting that a team with a 31st ranked run defense made scant personnel moves in the offseason.

I found it interesting that the Colts and Patriots drafted multiple DTs and used 1st day picks to do so. I found it interesting that the just about every team in the league invested high picks on run defense improvement. Not necessarily condemning the Raiders decison making. Just pointing out some different approaches taken in the offseason by various clubs.

Again, you are right, the coaches think Terdell Sands, Gerard Warren, Tommy Kelly, Ryan Boschetti, Wiliam Joseph and Desmond Bryant are elite talents. They have to prove it on the field

^^^^^
I agree....and lets hope the old man actually does something smart next year and draft DT, big strong DE's and LB's next year.
