Twitter anyone???
June 11th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Yep Thomas 53 should have a light’s out year,imo
June 11th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
When your offense is last in the league in Goal to Go scoring you hope they can improve on that greatly. If they can, the defense will be better almost by definition.
June 11th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
Hopefully The Marshall Plan 4 The Defence will use Tommy 53’s awesome ability 2 it’s fullest potential
June 11th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
I agree with Lefty12 and Mistabrown, Garcia may be on his way out of town with the Frye signing. Makes sense…Al signs vet then realizes vet can’t play in system, then jettisons vet…

FREE THOMAS HOWARD!
June 11th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
These live chats are always great, I can’t wait for someone to ask Jerry a really good question, like: Hey Jerry, Do you think the Raiders will be any good this year? or Jerry, Is jamarcus going to throw some touchdown passes this year?
June 11th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
I hope the Marshall plan accounts for G. Warren taking a few weeks off like he always does, and for Sands’ languishing grief from his mother’s death that happened years ago but is still affecting his performance.
mommy!

Does Terdell actually think he’s so good and in such great shape, that he can afford to miss OTAs?

Actually we supplied the Muj@hideen with weapons (1980s) to fight the Soviets, then they began to fight amongst themselves and out of that conflict, years later, formed the Taliban (1994).

Tal!ban was formed from these Muj@hideen. And nothing about !ran!! Not a single comment!

Sharia (Arabic: ‘شريعة Šarīʿah) is the body of Islamic religious law. The term means “way” or “path to the water source”. It is the legal framework within which the public and private aspects of life are regulated for those living in a legal system based on fiqh (Islamic principles of jurisprudence) and for Muslims living outside the domain. Sharia deals with many aspects of day-to-day life, including politics, economics, banking, business, contracts, family, sexuality, hygiene, and social issues.
Islamic law is now the most widely used religious law, and one of the three most common legal systems of the world alongside common law and civil law.[1] During the Islamic Golden Age, classical Islamic law may have influenced the development of common law,[2] and also influenced the development of several civil law institutions.[3]

June 11th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
RaiderO, the Taliban, as we now know it, did not form until the 1990s, so no, we did not train the Taliban in the 1970s, but we did train and supply men, some of whom later formed the Taliban, and many other factions.
Very important distinction.
Besides, we did it to stop the USSR, so we did what we had to do…the mistake came later when we left them to fight amongst themselves…we should have sent some Dems over their to have “talks”.

Just for the record, everyone getting worked up over Garcia missing 2 weeks worth of OTAs. The guy just had a kid last week. If he wants a little time with the child and mother before the season really gets going, I say let him. But….2 weeks is pretty much the limit in my book. 3 weeks is kind of pushing it.

I’ll be at the Braves-Rockies game on July 11th…if I see any tie-dyed shirts I’ll say hello to you!
June 11th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
By John Clayton
As teams start to wrap up minicamps and OTAs, let’s look at 10 young offensive players who could hit it big in 2009.
5. Darren McFadden, RB, Oakland Raiders: Al Davis loves speed, which is why he drafted Darrius Heyward-Bey and why McFadden should have a breakout season this year. Foot problems nagged him throughout the 2008 season. This fall, his season should be on better footing. McFadden first has to beat out Justin Fargas for the starting job. What’s pretty clear is that McFadden won’t be limited to the 113 carries of his injury-marred rookie season. Because of his speed, he should have a high yard-per-attempt average. If he can get 225 carries, he should get 1,000 yards. Clearly, head coach Tom Cable, whose specialty is coaching offensive linemen, will focus more on the run than the pass.

June 11th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Most astute post in a week #53 last thread by Lefty12 concerning the Frye signing. The coaches IMO are concerned about Garcia’s showing thus far in OTA’s. He has been less than impressive and now the no-show. IMO Garcia has seen the light and he knows his chance of beating out or starting here is slim and none and slim just left town.
All the Garcia advocates are about to get shocked as I think he’s on the verge of retirement if he can’t get a feeler from somewhere. The truth is Russell has outshined him throughout the offseason and he knows it. I dont think he was ready for the what he has seen of Russell or why this disappearance and then the emergency signing of Frye.
I could be way off but I don’t think this is Al Davis signing every out of work QB for panic purposes.
And Lefty12 called it. Mr Davis doesn’t make cameo’s for no reason, Cable asked for his help for a reason and Big Al boned up on the film to impress. He knows how to close the deal…………….period
June 11th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
Many think it was Garcia opening his mouth I really don’t think so, I think it was Garcia’s lackluster performances in practice and THEN opening his mouth.
I’ve watched 3 games Tampa played, and in every one you could see that Garcia’s great plays were very intermittent and the lackluster play was more the norm. Then he comes in here and looks like crap not to mention shoots off his mouth.
Mr Davis couldn’t care less if you shoot off your mouth if you can win games.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:14 am
Another little known point Mr Davis wanted to draft Charlie Frye in the 3rd rnd instead of Andrew Walter. But the Browns got to him first. So this is someone our scouts and owner have been interested in since he came out.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:15 am
We worked him out a couple of timess before that draft and were impressed with his moxey. He had a decent career at BC.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:25 am
I’m sorry Akron, for some reason I thought he played a BC I just remember studying him at All-Star games and him being from BC. But I looked it up and I’m wrong.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:50 am
IMO Kiffin almost ruined DMC’s career playing him the way he did with those injuries on turf games. He obviously needed to rest his feet and he kept forcing him on the field. And also running him up the gut time after time. At first I was very impressed with Kiffin as time went on I grew to really dislike him. For his constant complaining and public lynching of players and then expecting them to play for ie; Mario Henderson.
June 12th, 2009 at 12:54 am
Actually, they redshirted Dmac, just like they red shirted Michael Bush and Jamarcus. I said they would and they did. Sure, he had a tuft toe injury, which is why he was on the sideline, in full uni, with his hat in his hand, waiting to go in the games. Expect the same with Heyward-Bey. He seems pretty raw right now, not ready for prime time.
June 12th, 2009 at 1:38 am
Oak DHB is not ready for prime time to be sure but he can have an impact by being a threat. All he has to do is make a few plays that show his ability and the defense will be forced to honor him. That IMO is why we drafted him. He will take 3-4 years to become what he’s capable of becoming but in the interum he can pose a threat same as DMC would’ve done had he been more healthy.
IME if DMC were healthy all year Russell’s struggles would not have been as pronounced. He would’ve thrown a leat 20 TD’s because of the DMC factor. ZMiller wouldn’t have been doubled and tripled. Same with MBush, had he been more a part of the offense it would’ve helped Russell immeasurably.
The talent around Russell right now is extremely explosive and that is what most of Russell’s detractors just don’t get. Russell will not need to be spectacular because the talent around him will be. DMC being the primary threat of them all. They have no answer for him.
June 12th, 2009 at 1:47 am
Oakglenn trust me, I see by midseason our offense becoming one of the most feared in the league. The 3 headed monster at HB will be one hell of a challenge to deal with and the pasing game will benefit due to the devastation of that running game. And Fargas will be a factor he just brings reliability to the table. And he’s a much better performer than given credit for in here.
June 12th, 2009 at 1:54 am
DHB is as big a WR as Jerry Porter but he just is a phenomenal athlete. People think he just runs fast, far from it, this kid is a very rare athlete that has world class speed.

June 12th, 2009 at 4:12 am
“You might retard a young guy by trying to be too cautious, so let’s rip it right now as you learn how to do this,” Raiders coach Tom Cable said. “It’s good to see him turn it loose and find out who can make those plays.”
Yes, the Raiders are adding the vertical passing game to the playbook to make better use of Russell’s strong arm and the roster’s fast receivers. But what good is it to strike deep in enemy territory if they can’t punch it in once inside the red zone?
This was a major problem last year, when the Raiders ranked 29th in NFL scoring with 16.4 points per game. They were also 29th in red-zone offense and 32nd (last) in goal-to-go scoring – all despite having a top-10 rushing offense.
“We can run the ball all day,” Russell said. “Once you get inside the 20, we’re going to take shots at the end zone. That’s what we were lacking. We’d get down there sometimes and try to run the ball all three downs and had to kick a field goal.
“If you don’t take a chance at the end zone, how are you going to get there?”
Thus, red-zone drill after red-zone drill. They started 2-for-32 in the first week of practice, by Cable’s account, and improved to 11-for-32 last week. Cable didn’t give a score on this week’s efforts, but there was clear improvement with each passing score.
“Cut it loose and give everybody a chance to see what we can come up with,” Russell said.
HE’S BACK: Russell’s day was all the more impressive considering the return of Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, who made his voluntary-workout debut this week
June 12th, 2009 at 4:39 am

June 12th, 2009 at 5:32 am
So if a MNF game goes into overtime you’re up until 12-1am?
June 12th, 2009 at 5:33 am
* * Defensive lineman Tommy Kelly * * *
He’ll have a hard time ever living up to last year’s whopping contract, which thrust him into a greater spotlight. He understood those stakes last year and was willing to break a media boycott. But he’s gone mute again. And he keeps jumping offside in offseason workouts. At 6-foot-6, 300-plus pounds, he is a gigantic presence on the line that coaches Dwaine Board and John Marshall need to get more out of this season.
Current leadership level: 3. Needed level: 8

June 12th, 2009 at 6:21 am
You’re right Dirt Lot…In fact, games 1, 2, and 3 are division games. If the Raiders can go 3-0…
Exla…you think so? That would be great, but I think they have to close them out on Sunday in Orlando if they have that chance. I think the 3rd quarter and that final 3 by D-Fish took the heart out of them. But…you never know. Orlando could be playing out of desparation on Sunday…
June 12th, 2009 at 6:32 am
3-O WOULD BE ABSOLUTE BEST CASE, I’LL TAKE IT,SAN DIEGO IS STILL VERY GOOD, BUT THEY CAN BE BEAT..
June 12th, 2009 at 6:32 am
The magic will be a team to contend with for years to come, it just isn’t their time right now. I hate when teams don’t foul when they are up 3 with 10 or so seconds to go. Instead they give Fisher a wide-open look.
Kobe will smell the blood and put on a show in the 4th quarter in game 5 and close it out, IMO.
And playing 3 division games early is probably a big-blessing for us. Who would have thought that the continuity in the offseason by the RAIDERS, will be a big advantage for us against division rivals KC and Den who are trying to implement a new system, with new QB’s, RB’s and coaches. If we can just figure a way to beat the Chargers.

With the ageing of the Celtics, I see the Cavs and the Magic battling it out in the east for the next 2 yrs with the Magic usually prevailing. Meeting the Lakers in the finals as outside of Kobe and Fisher, the Lakers are a young team.

In Texas, Randall County prosecutor Lacy Miller said, “Right now he is a wanted individual.”
In a pathetic way, it’s probably the only time in recent memory that Leaf has been wanted by anyone.

Howard and Nelson handed LA the game. The Lakers could easily be down 3-1 if the Magic were a smarter team or made their FTs.

But they are not a smarter team and Howard did his best Shaquille impersonation at the FT line. He should go into the chimney business. He threw up enough bricks. LOL

Blazer are dogged by the cap. A center who is injured most of the time. Sam Bowie effect. LOL
************************
We will se whos laughing…cap hardley an issue we have Lafrentz HUGE expoiring contract plus we have chips to move in sergio and webster we may be the deepest most talented young team in the leauge…ask any body who watches b-ball!! and as far as The Bowie Effect…I will be willing right now to be Oden WILL have a better Carrer than Bynum! IMHO Oden has all the tools be be the best ever!! And he was only 19 when he had surgury and then it was handled properly with the whole year off he will be fine!! you will see laker fans should be scared of this young team……..
June 12th, 2009 at 8:56 am
So will starting wr be Chaz & DHB ?
****************************************
Chaz should be starting week one due to his knowledge of the offense but I look for DHB to contribute big and be a part of the regular offense come week 5 or so…
June 12th, 2009 at 8:59 am
Oaklifer,
Have you seen Oden in person? I went to a game this season at the Rose Garden and that dude is huge!! The problem is he lumbers up and down the court so bad, almost like his feet are in sand. I think he’s going to have real problems trying to play the type of up and down ball the Blazers(and most of the WC) like to play. We’ll see, but I think the season is going to be especially long for him.
There is NO WAY he will ever become the offensive player Bynum is going to be.
June 12th, 2009 at 9:03 am
Darius Miles took care of the Blazers cap space by signing with Memphis.
” Memphis Grizzlies re-signed Miles on January 10, 2009, to a 10-day non-guaranteed contract. Subsequently Miles played the two games necessary to trigger the $18 million owed to him by Portland for the 2008–09 and 2009–10 seasons being re-added to Portland’s cap amount. Miles was then re-signed by the Grizzlies to two more 10-day contracts before being inked for the rest of the 2008–09 season on January 30, 2009.”

Roy has kobes number and lets say that maybe just maybe the lakers repeat next year, thats two rings and koobe is one year older…..but the core of Roy Aldridge Oden Fernandaz is scary and will be competing for rings for the next 10 years IMHO. 1- I Been a Al Davis fan for a long time. Im luke warm on AL the last few years. Al letting Rob Ryan stick around 2 years too long & FA signings have been hard to swallow. I dont criticize AL in here.
2- Ive given Russell 2 years. If he doesn’t have a solid performance in the first 8 weeks I think he is going to sink. To this point he hasn’t showed much, his pocket awareness isn’t great, he fumbles too much when moving in the pocket, he throws at the feet of the receivers, his work ethic has been called out by the HC. Im behind him but he needs to step up and doit out of the gate not just the last 3 or 4 games.
3- The draft? Stupid question! You cant judge a draft for 2 to 3 years.

Vincent Jackson’s Request Denied in DUI Case
Posted by Aaron Wilson on June 12, 2009, 2:03 p.m.
In the legal wrangling over an active DUI case, San Diego Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson has suffered a setback in the courtroom.
According to Brent Schrotenboer of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Jackson’s legal team had its motion to suppress blood-alcohol evidence shot down by a San Diego judge.
Jackson’s counsel had sought to have the results of Jackson’s blood test thrown out after the wideout was “forced to have his blood drawn against his will” after making a request for a Breathalyzer exam.

Did you guys catch Nnamdi on NFLN the other night? He was being interviewed by Rod Woodson and said Rod taught him half of what he knows about playing corner.
I always thought Rod would make a great coach. He’s probably got enough money and easy enough job at NFLN that he wouldn’t want to bother with being a position coach, but I think he’d be great at it.

Why would I be pissed about the DHB? He may turn out to be a pro-bowl receiver. He also may turn out to be JJ Stokes. We have to wait & see! So really I answered your question the first time around. 2-3 you judge a draft.
Oaklifer, Alot of people around here act like experts when they dont know sheet. Do you remember last year OakGlenn & his right tit Priest doing cartwheels over Arman Shields? The man has never played a down, has not even smelled the grass and those 2 buffoons were tugging on his jock like a nun in a cucumber patch.
What do you want me to say about Mike Mitchell? He hasnt played a down. It dont mean sheet what hes done in college. Why are you asking me stupid questions we have a roster with players in 2nd, 3rd, 4th year and your asking me about college players who havent played NFL football!

3. What did you think of the draft?
3a. What did you think of our first two draft picks in this years draft. did you think we made sleeper picks with the chance to be good or do you think we picked football players that can come in and contribute right away. Not asking a set in stone awnser of how they will play for ever just curious of your opinion of them…Not brain dead at all sorry you didnt correlate me asking what you thought of the draft and us drafting DHB and M&M with the first two picks…

June 12th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
I didn’t like the draft at all. Not a judgement on DHB or Mitchell…just felt that there were other players available that could start on day 1.
Schilens is going to prove to be a reliable receiver this year. Number 1 potential. I also think Louis Murphy brings same potential as Heyward-Bey and he could have been had from rounds 2 through 4 (where the Raiders took him) JLH and Walker will provide solid #2 or #3 options.
As for Mitchell…again, another position that is already manned by guys that are going to start. Eugene and Huff are probably playing over Mitchell. Again, another position that could have been filled later.
The Raiders had an opportunity to add a day 1 starter on the Offensive Line in Monroe and the defensive line with BJ Raji or Ron Brace. Also had excellent SLB choices at number 7 with Cushing, and Clay Matthews Jr.
The Raiders didn’t get better in the draft for the week 1 2009. Maybe week 1 2010….I am not expecting much of an impact this year. Hope I am wrong.

June 12th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
KoolKell,
I am afraid your projections are about right. Probably 2 to 3 catches a game. DHB will have a tough time beating out JLH and Walker at this point.
I am on board with DHB pick in theory. Hopefully he steps it up and can become a decent route runner and pass catcher.
I really wish the Raiders gave Sands/Warren/Kelly some credible competition this year.

The sad footnote to the Raiders’ Super Bowl XXXVII loss might be working it’s way to a happy ending. Ex-Raiders center Barret Robbins, whose personal demons chased him from team meetings to a tequila binge in Tijuana, has successfully completed a tour of duty in rehab is continuing on outpatient treatment in his hometown to get his life back together.
Top Sports Photos
View SlideshowSee extraordinary pictures from the world of sports.
Robbins, whom we haven’t heard many good things about since he was released by the Raiders, was released weeks ago from a drug rehabilitation program in Houston. This was the first rehab program Robbins has successfully completed since leaving the Raiders, and he’s tried a few. He’s now together enough where he’s able to live life outside a residential program, and MyFox Houston caught up with Robbins as he reflects on his recent difficulties.
“I’m just sick and tired of being sick and tired”, Robbins said in the interview with Fox 26 Sports in Houston. “When you get to a point where you are sick of jails, institutions, near-death experiences, things of that nature, God allows you to see things in a different light and he has for me.”
Sounds like the last few years have been pretty rough on Barret Robbins.
Shortly after his release from the Raiders, Robbins was diagnosed with a bipolar disorder and sought treatment. Repeatedly. It kept not ending well, as Robbins’ alcohol and substance abuse issues continuously derailed his treatment. It didn’t help when Robbins was outed by Victor Conte in 2004 as having used THG supplied by BALCO, and eventually fined by the NFL.
Bad went to worse after Robbins’ wife and kids left him, and he was arrested in late 2004 for punching a security guard at Harry Denton’s Starlight Room. Just weeks later, he brawled in Miami Beach with three police — three! — and ended up facing charges of attempted murder. According to a Gwen Knapp piece on Robbins from the San Francisco Chronicle, Barret Robbins still has two bullets in him from the incident.
Robbins blames himself for the Raiders’ Super Bowl loss, and for his litany of problems since. But he has it in some perspective, telling MyFox Houston, “I feel real good about the fact I’m breathing today.”
It’s probably unreasonable to think Barrett Robbins can resume his football life again. But it’s at least encouraging that Barrett Robbins can resume has actual life again

I think that it was Gruden that made the difference being that it was his offense and knew every tendency. Plus only one week between championship game and super bowl, just our luck.
June 13th, 2009 at 6:22 pm
I agree on that Snot. Gruden and 5 ints.
June 13th, 2009 at 6:53 pm
This year should produce a strong running attack and a better passing offense ( it can’t get any worse). I just hope Marshall can teach the fundamentals of tackling that has been missing for the past 5-6 years. If that was the problem or if its just the philosophy that is employed on this team.

Funniest thing about Voight…O Reilly asks him to give an example as to what he would do with North Korea if he were in Obama’s position, and Voight couldn’t give him one. He just said he would stand up and be tough, or some hyperbolic answer. OReilly’s throwing him softballs and he still can’t make an effective case against Obama. Fox is going to have to get some new Republican celebrities. Their current lineup is just tired.
June 13th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
Yes, Tampa Bay did have an advantage because Gruden knew our system. Funny how back in ‘03, when I was a regular at the SJ Mecury news board (as MatuzSAC, if any of you remember), I didn’t recall any of the Davis kool aid drinkers over there saying BEFORE the game that Gruden would have an advantage.. It was the other way around…that WE were going to expose Gruden! That our defense was going to stuff Gruden’s weak dink and dunk right in it’s tracks. Gruden’s mediocre TB offense just diced our defense apart. They were up 27-3, all offense, before the “quick 6″ parade began. They had a 10 minute drive in the 3rd quarter. Now that’s dinking and dunking. We had no answer, despite knowing Gruden’s offense. Case and point, the game is played on the field, and the team that is better prepared, not only via game film, but physically and mentally, as well, is the one that wins. Yeh, Gruden gave them an advantage, only because Gruden was a far better coach than our head coach, Al Davis.
June 13th, 2009 at 9:39 pm
That, and Gannons 5 ints.
June 13th, 2009 at 9:52 pm

#220, I know you don’t BS, most the of the time atleast!
I still don’t think it’s very accurate, I will do more research.
#221, 99 Rams!!! Why? One sided team, all the power on offense, and no defense. The 85 bears had Walter P (RIP WP). He was great.
June 13th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
post237,Tampa Bay on that day, was the better team, but, only an IDIOT would suggest Gruden knowing our offense wasnt a huge advantage ,AND his offense knowing our defense as well,on and on,its NFL history,so that being said, its time for a new chapter in RAIDER HISTORY a winning history for the Young fans, kids, grandkids, as well as some of you older fans that DONT have the feeling,as a fan ,of a RAIDER PARTAYYYY!!

June 14th, 2009 at 1:02 am
Our C didn’t have an injury, or a situation. Coaches didnt see the need to prepare the other center as a starter, as they would do if they knew Robbins had a problem.
Your C is drunk in Mexico the day of the SB!! How can you be ready for that?!
IMO, C is the 2nd most important position on the field.

You guys can throw your typical insults out there all you want to. Frankly, I insult Davis kool aid drinkers with every single stroke of the keyboard, and it’s by intention. So, I can take the heat. That being said, I never once said Gruden didn’t have an advantage. What I said was that our defense had the same advantage, against a mediocre Tampa Bay offense, and still got picked apart. The game came down to preparation, and Gruden outprepared our head coach, Al Davis.
Kell, Tampa put up a 27-3 lead on us when Gannon had only thrown 2 picks, which itself is bad, but expected when you’re facing one of the best defenses ever assembled. Gannon’s final 3 picks were when the game was out of reach and when we were in hail mary mode, anyway. Remember, Tampa Bay’s opening second half drive was 13 minutes. They score, making it 27-3 at the end of the 3rd quarter. If you want to put the burden on Gannon’s shoulders to orchestrate a comeback down 24 with one quarter left, against one of the best defenses in NFL history, be my guest. Just don’t call me crazy when doing so…
June 14th, 2009 at 2:02 am
The day wasn’t freakish at all. What was freakish was what lead up to the game. What was freakish was Al Davis refusing to give Gruden a new contract after he’d taken us to our first AFC title game in a decade. What was freakish was Al eventually trading him to an NFC team we’d likely have to face in a Super Bowl (which happened). The results of the game weren’t freakish at all. In fact, it went quite as people who know anything about football expected. Only the Davis kool aid drinkers thought it would be a game. I still remember you guys at the San Jo Merc board swearing that we’d win because our defense had Gruden’s offense dialed. Yeh, they sure did, didn’t they?
June 14th, 2009 at 2:07 am
Yeh, and I know one of you idiots is going to bring up the 3 point spread from that game (you know who you are…), and if I have to explain to you why the odds makers really favored us by 3 points, then I’ll have to seriously consider rather or not you’ve ever really bet in your life, or if you even really live in Vegas.
June 14th, 2009 at 2:11 am
Gilbert, the Oakland Raiders have been the worst team in football over the last 6 years, and are yet to make one single move in upper management. So explain to me just how we’re turning the page to a new era of Raider winning. As long as Al Davis is in that booth, we have not turned the page.
June 14th, 2009 at 2:13 am
Gilbert, you’re going to be one disappointed little baby by November. I’m sure you won’t be here to take your lumps, and I wouldn’t blame you. Most Davis kool aid drinkers are pre season warriors. Soon as the team tanks, you guys are gone. I’ll be here, win or lose. If we win, I’ll give Al Davis, and you, the props you guys deserve. And I’ll take all the heat from you guys. We’ll see this fall if you’re man enough to own up to your predictions. I’m guessing not.

Gilbert, insulting me is not going to change reality. You can call every fan that tells the truth a hater, and it won’t change the truth. Some of us want to see the Raiders win. You, on the other hand, are content with the losing, and just calling anyone a “hater” if they put the blame where it belongs, with Al Davis. I’ll continue to “hate” on, you continue to be a mindless kool aid drinking shill. Al Davis, meanwhile, will continue to lose and continue to render me right. All the best, little one.
June 14th, 2009 at 9:48 am
Are you guys to still going to put the SB loss on Gannon’s interceptions, despite me breaking down the first 3 quarters and demonstrating that Gannon only threw 2 picks in that time, and Tampa diced our defense apart to the tune of 27 unanswered points? Of course you are, Gilbert. You don’t know any better. Blame anyone but Al, that’s your motto. It’s Gannon’s fault. Gannon traded Gruden to TB. Gannon was the one who decided not to give Gruden a new contract after he took us to our first AFC Title game ever. Gannon’s final 3 INTs in that game were when the game was out of reach. With absolutely no running game and an offense as predictable as daylight, not to mention an offensive line that revealed themselves to be a doormat when facing a good defensive line (they revealed it against Miami earlier in the year, as well), Gannon could have done a lot worse. Imagine JaMarcus Russel out there. Ha ha! Gruden outprepared Al Davis, and that’s all that happened that day. To give Davis credit, he outprepared Gruden two times since then. Gruden’s no hall of famer. But he was better than Davis when it counted. That’s been the story of Davis’s life since ‘86.

June 14th, 2009 at 12:31 pm
#259,
You have no clue on what you are talking about, that’s why I ignore most of your posts.
The reason Gruden was traded, due to him wanting to leave, and to be in Florida. That’s why Al traded him, he wasn’t going to stay anyway.
June 14th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
It would have been a great trade for us, if:
1- we didn’t play TB in the SB
2- got more of the picks than Brayton & Washington!
We were the best offense that year, and they had the best Defense. Bill was outcoached by Gruden.
June 14th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
KK,
The Raiders have had the most merchandise sales every year since 1987. The raiders generate more revenues of their merchandise sales than any other team in the NFL.
Also,
According to the site you posted, we were 30th in 2004. I don’t think they include Merchandise sales.
June 14th, 2009 at 3:22 pm
The Raiders ranked first among NFL teams in licensed merchandise sales from April 1, 2003 through March 31, 2004, the third consecutive year the team has topped the list. The Patriots moved from ninth last year to No. 2. The Packers placed in the top five for the eighth consecutive year, while the Falcons moved into the top ten for the first time since ’92. Last year’s rankings are listed in parentheses (THE DAILY).
-
Which NFL team has sold the most merchandise worldwide?
In: Football – American, NFL Teams [Edit categories]
[Edit]
There are 2 parts to your question. Most merchandise in a single year and most merchandise to date.
the most merchandise in a single year had been known to change from time to time. The two biggest in year to year are:
Dallas Cowboys and the Oakland Raiders
Other teams have come close depending on their current popularity and current Super Bowl win.
The answer for the overall most merchandise sold is:
The Oakland Raiders
And the numbers are not even close.
This is according to the wholesalers of NFL merchandise.
-
As for the rest of the revenues the NFL has kept the Raiders down since Roselle was Commish.

************************************************
I know what you are hinting at, the “LA affect”, we call it, when basically any weekend game involving the Lakers, Dodgers, Raiders and even De La Hoya fights, the line gets out of whack due to so many guys coming out to Vegas from SoCal and putting money on their team. The line started at 3 and ran up to 4 actually, but still these “adjustments” if you will, or only for a point or two, so at best your point is that people thought it was a coinflip, 50/50, pick ‘em type of game. Hardly, “it went quite as people who know anything about football expected”.
June 14th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
Any fan base that dosn’t see their team in the playoffs or at least winning games is not much of a fan base IMO. Fans are that way by definition. Koolaid drinking is in affect leaguewide.
I don’t remember seeing any post predicting a SB championship especially in light of the past 6 years. So I don’t think anything is going on here that’s not going on in at least 28 NFL team fan bases. I remember a QB predicting a 10 win season a couple of years ago by a team that hadn’t won 10 games in almost 20 years. Guess what they went 8 & 8 after a 6 & 2 start.
NFL optimism runs wild in every NFL city this time of year. No one really looks forward to losing.
Except maybe MR or some other haters.
A hater is someone who hopes that someone else doesn’t succeed. Even against all rational reasoning that suggest that they MAY have success.
June 14th, 2009 at 5:53 pm
BHP,
screw the haters and the donkeys they road in on. they attempt to justify themselves with partial truths which are, as everyone knows, the tricksters biggest asset.

So what you are saying is Gannons 5 pix didn’t have an impact on the outcome of that game?? If I remember right, we were down by 13 points with about 7:50 to go in that game. In fact, I was at that game. The Raiders sent me down to that Super Bowl game. 2 TD’s win that game, and we had the ball with just less than 8 minutes to go if I remember right. At that point, as bad as we had played, I thought we were going to win that game. Then came the next Gannon INT which was taken to the house. What were you saying now??

Kobe will never get the credit he deserves due to the media and the Michael Jordan worshipers of which Magic Johnson is the bandwagon driver.
Right now the proponderance of NBA commentaters are of the Michael Jordan era. And Kobe early in his career was hailed as the next Jordan and they weren’t having any of it. Michael IMO is not the best player I’ve ever seen. To say that he was means you probably are considering the NBA since 1980. But the NBA was around long before that. And what I saw before that wont let me say Michael Jordan was the best.
Wilt Chamberlain is still the most dominant player I’ve ever seen and Russell was single best at what he did. Michael may have been the best 2 guard I’ve ever seen but Elgin Baylor was as spectacular effective around the basket as Michael ever was. Doctor Julius Erving was the most spectacular player I’ve ever seen hands down. But Michael combined the Doctor and Baylor at the 2 guard. That’s what made Michael so special.
Kobe’s game is different from Michael Jordan, Jordan was better around the basket Kobe is better from 15 and out, both played the game very intelligently. But Kobe IMO is already cementing his name as the second best 2 guard ever and he’s only 30 years old. Think about that for a second! 2nd best ever at 30 years old. Has been to the finals 6 times won 4. At 30 years old……… But the Michael Jordan worshipers refuse to let the kid be himself.
THe NBA never saw Doctor J that we saw in the ABA if they had Michael would’v been compared to that Julius Erving in stead of the one he was compared to. And he would’ve never have measured up. Doctor Julius Erving made Michael Jordan’s exploits in the air look boring. And I know most will never believe that, but it’s TRUE.
Kobe however gets compared to Michael at Michael’s best. And Kobe given fair credit does indeed measure up, if they would judge him fairly.

Priest I’m not old enough to ever have seen those greats but have always heard from older guys who I respect that Big O was the best, but Wilt was a 400yrd runner in HS and can’t imagine Lazy Shaq even bothering the great

Another thing many don’t understand about this kid whom is so disliked by the media and fans. He has at his age unseating the greatest Laker ever Magic Johnson. Magic won 5 Championships, Kobe 4 and the #’s that Kobe put up in the finals this year are matched only by the second best Laker ever Jerry West and the great Michael Jordan. Think about that for a second!!
If Kobe goes to finals and wins another Championship he could unseat Magic as the single greatest Laker EVER!! put that in your pipe and smoke it. Who would’ve ever uttered those words. But if he wins another ring you’d have to say he is. That team Kobe took to the finals last year I don’t think Magic Johnson could’ve done that. I know many will say I’m crazy but I’m very serious if you look at the youth on that team there are very few super stars that could’ve accomplished what Kobe has with them. That’s why I say what I say about Kobe. No one will judge him fairly.
What he accomplished the last 2 years is phenomenal.
June 15th, 2009 at 4:31 am
NMF. I saw all of them except Bob Cousy and George Mikan. If ESPN had been around when Oscar Roberson, Pete Maravich and Jerry West were playing not to mention do many other greats, what people say about Michael Jordan would not be nearly as emphatic.
If only the doctor had operated in the NBA he would’ve gotten 3 times the credit he got, but no one saw him. Larry Kennan included you can also add David Thompson to the list. Whom if he had played on that stage David Thompson would have been considered the best 2 guard ever before Michael. Problem with David he got hooked on drugs and ruined his career.

and I dont think I ever saw Pistol Pete miss a shot

Priest us who grew up after the AFL and ABA know any knock on those leagues in their day were just media bias and the big boys trying to snuff new more exciting leagues. Just imagine today a rival to the NFL or NBA that was so good they adopted their style and take teams from those leagues well that was the AFL and ABA.
GO RAIDERS!!!

Yup…All the haters scorned at me when I told them that Orlando was NOT going to win another game!!! Oh well…another 6-7 weeks to go!!!
June 15th, 2009 at 6:34 am
Rick Barry, I had forgotten about but he was IMO right there with West and Baylor. Barry was better than Larry Bird but the Jordan era crowd will never say that. Barry was hands down the most skilled small forward ever, Elgin was more dominant physically.
I dare say we have never seen another player quite like Rick Barry or Pete Maravich.
June 15th, 2009 at 6:43 am
6 weeks until training camp. It’s going to be a fun year. Iwas watching the best LBing corps in history and I remembered the 3/4 defense we ran back in the day. I think the talent we have now lends itself well to that style again.
I think they are getting ready to kick Ricky Brown inside and Alston outside Dburg and Scott will be versatile enough to accent that defense. But if you really look at the talent on defense it is extremely athletic and capable of a lot of versatility. They can present so many fronts and put athletes all over the field. If used right and they execute they could be very impressive. Everything comes down to discipline and execution.

One of the greatest in his prime was the Hawk, Connie Hawkins, banned for an alleged connection to a point shaving scandal in which he was proved innocent. By the time he got to pro ball, he was over the hill.

Chat was last Thursday June 11th.

I must admit I was wrong about the Laker’s! I said Laker’s in 6. How could I blow that one? LOL
June 15th, 2009 at 7:07 am
Many people have predicted 6, but somehow, I didn’t think that Kobe wanted it to go back home! That ws a statement!
June 15th, 2009 at 7:19 am
DR J’s game was copied from Connie Hawkins. The games with Connie vs Wilt were epic. While Connie was not a C he would challenge Wilt at the rim.
And that is the era that I speak so highly of because it gets short shrift from the Michael Jordan era commentators that have no knowledge of the history of the game. Those players back then were every bit as good if not better fundamentally.
The weight training now helps the present player in terms of physical prowess. But if those players were as aware of and took advantage of the training regimen of the present players WOW!!

No doubt bro….. even in the NFL it seems those days were predicated off fundementals now days kids just get big and fast and either out- muscle someone or out run thier opponents. For instince every “great” gaurd now days palms the ball..and travels….and whines…ect. The old days of players learning how to play the game the right way are over…I coach football at what I consider an intermeadit level and at that level the kids already know if thier good enough (size/speed/atletisism) they dnt work as hard at getting better like the kids who arent gifted with those thing’s they work on the fundementals alot more…sad IMHO

Good job Mitch Kupchak…you finally have the Jerry West monkey off your back. (those first two championships didn’t count for you)

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I must admit, I loathed, detested, and even reviled Kupchak for years. Starting from the time his knee imploded (Showtime with Kupchak would have been unbeatable), I felt Mitch was a wannabe. Jerry West had spoiled me, and when he left for Memphis so Mitch could get his time in the sun I WAS PO’D.
I take it all back. The Gasol and Ariza additions were just as pivotal as drafting Magic, Kobe, signing Shaq, Byron Scott (sorry Norm), and all the other genius moves by Zeke from Cabin Creek.
June 15th, 2009 at 8:29 am
No matter how many championships the Lakers win, they will never surpass the glory that is Al Davis’ Raiders, the “Team of All Decades”.
June 15th, 2009 at 8:29 am
And yes, thanks Gawd we got rid of Shaq. Even if Odom leaves it was worth it. My Chicago friends used to tell me that Shaq would be bagging groceries if he were six inches shorter. And deep down I knew they were right.
June 15th, 2009 at 8:32 am
If Shaq were six inches shorter he would have been in the NFL, at worst he would have been a police officer or a soldier.
June 15th, 2009 at 8:32 am
Ironies for the Laker’s Elgin Baylor. Never won an NBA title. Averaged 38.3 ppg the year Wilt ave 50. Day after he retired and replaced by Jim McMillan, the Lakers started the record 33 game win streak(still standing) and the team lead by Wilt, West and coached by Bill Sharman wins 1st L.A. era Championship.
June 15th, 2009 at 8:40 am
Forget about Kobe, Shaq, Michael, Pippen, it was all Phil Jackson. None of the players would have won without the Zen-Master.
June 15th, 2009 at 8:42 am
Congrats Dakota
Yes I remember the Jersey bet, the person you bet wimping out. You still honored the loss bet by applying the bet to someone else. You have persevered to that ugly loss series to those Celts and stayed with it, less many furniture items, to be a happy Laker Championship fan today.
Just proves how sports can change from one year to the next.
To all furniture dealers, bring down the sale signs, Dakota is not shopping.
EXLA
Congrats also, and to others I missed.
As to the Magic fans, your players are good, skills have to be improved, you will be in the final soon again.

The greatest irony: The Laker HOFer becomes synonymous with the Clippers (whom he is now suing for age/race discrimination).
Believe it or not, Baylor also averaged more rebounds per game than Rodman.

Besides we just signed Ellis and there is a new post.

How many titles did jordan win without another top 50 player or HOF answer 0.
June 15th, 2009 at 9:23 am
Lakers All Time Team
Starters: Wilt, West, Magic, Kobe, Baylor
Bench: Kareem, Worthy, Scott, Cooper, Shaq, Wilkes, Mikan, Goodrich
Honorable Mention: McAdoo, Nixon, Rambis, Fisher, Hairston, A.C. Green
However, If I were coach I would be playing Kareem at C and Wilt at PF or vice versa.
