Trade him for picks, or package him with picks and get a stud.. VW??

Or ya know, we could see how he plays through the first 8 games, if all is well, re-sign him to a incentive rich contract, and then trade him.

Krappy, you actually have a lot in common with Michael Vick. First, you both should be locked up for good. Of course, your facility will include bocci ball, bedtime around 7 pm, and an early bird special every night of the week.

Second, you’ve both defrosted your heads in microwaves for way too long over the years. His resulted in animal abuse. Yours resulted in underwear abuse.

And finally, you both stumble nude through your nearest Wendy’s drive thrus on a regular basis. Actually, I’m sure Vick has never done that but if he was as old and senile as you, Krappy, I’m sure he’d start.

  26. M Lonetree Says:

    DirtyRaccoon,

didn’t know that you had le langue in you.

all is more than well in Raiderland. Greg Ellis, by himself, will turn the defensive corps into an elite unit. He’s only been in the league for 11 years and has had HOF numbers each year. Plus, he’s never had a major injury. What? He hasn’t put up those numbers? He has been hurt? My bad, he will get a paycheck though.

And!! Keith Davis has shown himself to be real Raider!! A Mark Schlereth or Cris Carter type of Raider. What? Wait. Oh yeah, those guys only dis on Oaktown and JaMarcus. Once again, I apologize. Keith only spoke some nonsense about QB personnel decisions which a deep-sixed opossum could’ve said. Maybe he watches too much BSPN.

But anyway, Carmella had a baby!! And now (not Jerry) Garcia is free to be with his new buddies in the backfield.

    See!! Everything is fantastic!!

  27. DirtyRaccoon Says:

Beecham, what is your fetiseh with KoolKell man?

  28. DKnight007 Says:

Ellis has always been more of a DE IMO….he was playing out of position as a 3-4 OLB….now the Raiders can utlize his strength more. Tall, Long arms, physical at the point of attack, is strong ands stout against the run and is disruptive pass rusher.

Trade Burgess and Walter for Wilfork or trade Burgess, Walter and Sands for Wilfork and that 2nd Round OT the Pats drafted this year.

Can Stryker Sulak and Slade Norris even make this team?

Figure the DEs will be Richardson, Scott, Ellis, Shaughnessy and Burgess…with Gunheim in the mix

How many LBs can they carry? Howard, Morrison, Brown, Ekijuba, Alston, Williams…now add Norris not to mention Franz Joseph trying out.

THe only way Sulak can stay is if Burgess is traded.

Norris…I don’t see making this team at all to be honest.

  39. SnB Defense Says:

Sorry, I just don’t see the middle of this year’s draft as productive. Raiders could have brought in a Jasper Brinkley or Sammie Lee Hill or Ricky Jean Francois to provide some competition to the DTs.

Instead we drafted two players (Sulak and Norris) that are probably headed to the practice squad. Murphy was a good pick…but given that Heyward-Bey was number 7….

Just questions and assumptions at the top of my head. Those rookies are going to have to break out to kick an existing vet off the roster.

    ————————————————————-

That’s a good question. With the addition of Greg Ellis a lot of defensive ends just became extremely expendable. Especially ones that are hurt a lot of the time, and or non participating, non-team oriented guys. Derrick Burgess, I’m looking your way here.

  41. beeecham Says:

It’s all good, Lonetree. Power to the people.

Can’t wait until training camp starts and that Blink-182 loving sophmore Charged Down starts whimpering about Philip Rivers. That’s when the real fun will begin.

Krappy, I haven’t seen any entries in a while, so I’m going to guess you’re fast asleep in a fresh bowl of Frosted Flakes.

  42. The Big Banana Says:

With Burgess, we either need to get something good in return for a trade or just let him play. He’s in a contract year so it’s possible that he’ll do some damage. Releasing him is not an option.

If Vick did land in Oakland, it’d take less than a week until he started to miss the structure he had back in prison.”

    =======================================================
Yeah, I agree with you. Its great to have elite special teamers, but they also gotta get someone who can play ST and man the SLB spot as a bonnafide starter. I think the guy is going to be Brown or Alston. I just don’t see a role for Slade Norris unless he can outperform Sam Williams. That won’t be easy because Williams has produced on the ST and is a Davis favorite.

Still don’t really understand the Norris pick.

  46. Demon Raider Says:

I like the potential of rookies Matt Shaughnessy and Stryker Sulak. I mean, how cool is the name Stryker? Greg Ellis is instantly our best DE against the rush. He will be a good mentor also to our young DE’s. I really think this defense is back on it’s way to being a top 10 defense.

  47. Demon Raider Says:

I really think that Alston is gonna man the strong side..

  48. KoolKell Says:

Even taking into account all the negativity that surrounds him, the most important reason not to sign Michael Vick is that he won’t improve the Raiders on the field. He doesn’t represent a significant upgrade at quarterback, and thanks to Darren McFadden, Vick wouldn’t even be the most dangerous Wildcat threat on the team.
For now, Raider Nation will just have to live with the fact that they’re one play away from their nightmares becoming reality: Jeff Garcia, Silver & Black quarterback.

The Oakland Sports Examiner: New columns every Tuesday & Thursday.

  49. SnB Defense Says:

    KoolKell,

Davis’ gross mismanagement of coaching staffs has led to most of this chaos. He also was too reliant on the old 80’s model of reloading with free agent veterans.

Hopefully he’s learned from those and other mistakes. I think he started to realize where he was when he had so few coaches willing to interview for the head coach job. (NOT A SLIGHT ON TOM CABLE)….I think he also realizes that veteran free agents are usually free agents for a darn good reason. Hence since getting so spectacularly burned by Walker, Hall and Wilson…and disappointing results from Harris and others…he is starting to rely on young talent.

However, that draft left a few questions for me…But am willing to support the team and see how it all plays out.

    ————————————————

I don’t know if I would agree with that. Michael Vick is actually a marvelous player. He basically carried his entire VA Tech team to the National Championship Game (as a sophmore), has earned more than one pro bowl berth, beat Favre and Green Bay in Lambeau in a playoff game for the first time ever, and had one of the lowest INT ratios in the league, not to mention carrying his team to one game shy of the Super Bowl. The issue with Mike is he is not a Q in the Manning/Brady vein. He is more in the Elway/Favre gunslinger vein where he is going to throw the playbook out the window and try to make things happen. Most Head Coaches cannot deal with that. And then there is the very distinct possibility that he has learned NOTHING while sitting in a prison cell for two years. THAT, would be a problem.

  52. KoolKell Says:

Michael Vick is a career 75 passer rating. Completes 53% of his passes. And, is a psycopath.

  53. DKnight007 Says:

    ————————————————-

What I said was Mike had one of the lowest INT ratios in the league. Not his TD to INT ratio. It’s a different stat. One season his Int ratio was 1.90%, where he threw almost 200 straight passes without a pick. That ain’t bad.

  56. KoolKell Says:

Yeah, and in that year, 2002, his passer rating was 81.

  57. SnB Defense Says:

    DKnight007,

Unless the Raiders want to share that stadium with the 49ers…they will have to wait until the economy improves or move to Los Angeles.

Oakland is not a prosperous enough city to be able to provide any meaningful support for a new stadium. The state of California is a mess.

The Raiders best bet would be to initiate a renovation of its current stadium at a fraction of the cost. Don’t get all the bells and whistles but can implement some improvements that can enhance revenues.

  58. SnB Defense Says:

Raiders might be better off sticking with its current digs.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/partone/081121

  59. DKnight007 Says:

If Vick plays in the NFL this year and does Stallworth, then Good for nothing Goodell would officially be a JOKE!

Vick can play in that new UFL….but not in the NFL…..

  60. 504 Raider Says:

Gotta chime in on this Vick talk. Mike Vick is the best “Wildcat” QB in the history of the formation and he never ran the play. Think about it. There is no QB that can throw better than Vick and he is very elusive. He’s more elusive than DMac and DMac is my guy. If Houston Nutt had Vick at Arkansas, The NCAA would have it’s 1 and only 2,000 yd passer and runner for a single season.

  61. SnB Defense Says:

The Raiders are better off implementing its current offense and leave these so-called Wild-Cat QBs alone.

With the Wildcat you are looking at maybe 3 to 5 plays a game. Bush and McFadden are just fine with that.

    —————————————————–

Funny how guys that know the game somehow by passed those stats and voted Mike Vick to the Pro Bowl. Twice. Some of you guys rattle off stats, and there is a lot more to life than just rattling off statistics. John Elway had pretty mediocre stats, in fact his lst year in the league, I think his QB rating was slightly over 50. No, not his completion percentage, his rating!! His completion % was in the forties. He ended up doing OK in the league.

  63. KoolKell Says:

Stats are quantifiable, BS is not.

  64. KoolKell Says:

Vick never made a pro-bowl based on his passing skills

  65. Oakglenn Says:

Actually stats in certain sports are more useful than others. Baseball is an excellent sport for stats, because the matchups for the most part are one on one, can be extrapolated and have the tendency to smooth out over a large sample, say 500 at bats. If a batter is up, and the runner at lst gets picked off, the batter will still get his at bat. In football, if the LT completely misses his block, and the Q rolls to his right and throws the ball away, the stat shows the Q sucks even tho the Q did the right thing. And if the LT continues to play poorly, statistically, the Q blows. Not quite the same is it?

  66. DarthPirate Says:

    =======================================================
Wilfork in Oakland could be the missing piece to the defensive puzzle. With Wilfork, the Raiders would have a bonnafide run stuffer up the middle and a guy that could clog lanes and let the Linebackers go to work. The current guys (Warren, Sands, Boschetti) are rotation type players. Warren is out of position all together.

Trade won’t happen though. First, New England won’t part with Wilfork this year. They will let him play this year and phase Ron Brace in.

Quite frankly, great NT run stuffers are hard to come by and the Raiders don’t value the position. The Raiders place a premium on speed and pass rushing. The Raiders are built more in the image of the Indy Colts and less like the New York Giants or Philly Eagles.

  70. KoolKell Says:

    Of course he did not.

He’s only had 2 seasons were his passer rating was higher than JaMarcus’s rookie year of 77.

    He’s a career 75 passer.

If he weren’t a Running QB, he would have never had a NFL career.

  71. KoolKell Says:

Well, I’ll let you 2 Lovers carry on from here. ;-)

  72. SnB Defense Says:

    Sorry, another D-Line rant below:

The best Oakland can hope for is a pedestrian run defense and an elite pass defense.

Warren/Kelly/Sands are each in the top 25% of highest paid DTs. Yet their performance is so middling. I have never seen a collection of players receiver the benefit of the doubt.

They have to step it up. The schedule has a plethora of run 1st offenses that will run it right up the Raiders collective gut until they demonstrate an ability to slow the run down. They gave up 160 yards on the ground EACH GAME!

Because he was a Q that couldn’t throw the ball. Sure. Whatever you guys say. You know, I’ve seen Mike Vick play with my own eyes, maybe 30 times. How many times have you guys watched him play live?? 75. KoolKell Says:

    Oakglenn

Anybody who would compare Mike Vick to John Elway, is the stupid one.

    You little name-calling, trolling Pos!

  76. SnB Defense Says:

    Guys,

The Raiders don’t need Michael Vick. Please…Vick is a quarterback that has been away for a couple of years. The Raiders need to work on the doggone D-Line before worrying about a backup QB

  77. KoolKell Says:

D-Line…….what I said earlier is still apprapo. Mr Davis has to much money & pride tied up there to make any comfortable changes. He’s got to roll the dice with Tommy Kelly.

  78. KoolKell Says:

too much money tied up there.

  79. vegas raider Says:

The only reason Mike Vick didn’t throw as many picks, or his “ratio” was a little above-average, because he was throwing fastballs low and away where nobody could catch them. Keep Mike Vick in the pocket, and he is awful, and I doubt a year in the pokey helped his pocket presence or his running ability.

I’m still calling him starting in the UFL this year. Hopefully out here in Vegas with Jim Fassell.

  80. SnB Defense Says:

    KoolKell,

I am fine with Kelly sitting at the 3-tech. But Warren and Sands have not showed me much at all. Warren should be backing up Kelly and Sands is an underperformer.

A great NT would do wonders for Kelly and Morrison’s careers!

Oh Well…Draft another speedy tweener for the outside

  81. vegas raider Says:

Vick gets WAY too much credit for the Falcons win in the playoffs in Lambeau that one year. The packers gift-wrapped that game for them, I know they blocked one punt for a TD and got another huge special teams play I think, and Favre had multiple turnovers. I think Jamarcus Russell would have just as easily won that game. The Packers didn’t show up.

  82. SnB Defense Says:

    Vegas Raider,

Michael Vick does deserve credit for every win that team got with him at QB. He wasn’t the prolific passer but he did win games with his feet and legs. The Falcons were a legit team while he was the QB. If that dog fighting hadn’t occurred, he probably still has the Falcons in the 7-9 to 11-5 range. That’s more than can be said for several QBs in the league.

Now the Raiders don’t need him…I agree with that….I also don’t like Vick’s inability to put his team ahead of himself…but let’s not paint this guy as some second coming of David Carr or Joey Harrington.

  83. KoolKell Says:

Yeah, the last time the Raiders had a winning record Sam Adams was NT.

But they got gashed with Ted Washington in there too.

  84. vegas raider Says:

With so many DE’s signed on right now, Burgess, Ellis, Scott, Stryker, Gunheim and even Norris, you gotta think Richardson might want to put on some weight to maybe pitch in a little at DT. His roster spot should not be safe. Especially if they don’t trade Burgess.

  85. vegas raider Says:

    SnB,

He had his moments certainly running the ball, but he was mostly inconsistent an below-average as a passer. He was way overrate, IMO, is my point. The Falcons are in a much better situation without him and with Ryan at QB to win more games. Maybe not in jersey sales though.

  86. jhill Says:

    Mike Vick and DLine, huh?

    Good topics!

The fact that we signed ANOTHER LB who could very well start still isn’t cluing you guys in as to what the COMPLETELY NEW defensive staff sees as THE weakness on this team? Forget what a lot of us have been saying, look at what Marshall and Cable are doing. LB after LB, S after S …. but NO DTs????? Hmmmmm!

I’ll take Vick as a 3rd string QB over Gradkowski. Give him a year to get back in the swing of things, and let him move into the backup/wildcat role next year.

  87. KoolKell Says:

If Cadillac Williams hadn’t gone down, maybe we don’t win that game.

  88. SnB Defense Says:

    Vegas Raider,

Vick wasn’t the prolific passer, but some of that had to do with not having a real good receiving corps. Roddy White was raw and Algae Crumpler was the only legit target. If I remember, they were cycling through receivers that would drop balls and get no separation. Kind of like the Raider situation for about 12 games last year.

All I am saying is that he won some games for them. He also had Greg Knapp as an OC…not exactly an exciting game planner.

But enough about Vick….the Raiders DON’T NEED HIM!

  89. KoolKell Says:

I noticed they did play Richardson inside some against Tampa.

  90. jhill Says:

Our LBs are soft as butter, starting with Captian Kirk!

I, for one, hope that Ricky Brown beats him out at MLB, and we are able to trade him before he becomes a FA and we end up paying him $ he doesn’t deserve.

Ricky Brown is the most physical LB we have, and that’s what we need in the middle!

We lose that game going away if Cadillac doesn’t get hurt.

    JHill,

Good to hear from you. I gotta say that my two feet are firmly planted in the “Show Me” first stage when it comes to run defense. No amount of rhetoric is going to overcome my skepticism given the lack of moves I wanted see. I like Marshall and Board and I like their backgrounds. But the rhetoric is similiar to last year….fundamentals blah, blah, blah, better tackling, blah, blah, blah improved discipline. Like I said…I gotta see it to believe it. Especially with that murderous run 1st schedule they will be seeing this year.

That being said I really like the offense this year! Russell, DMAC, Bush, Schilens, JLH and Miller should provide some excitement. If DHB and Murphy can contribute all the better.

  93. vegas raider Says:

But enough about Vick….the Raiders DON’T NEED HIM!

    *************************

    Amen

  94. SnB Defense Says:

    JHill,

Like our friends Priesttj said…the coaches obviously believe in the talents of the current front 7.

But I’ll tell you what…we sure did pass up on some talent boy! Raji, Mauluga, Matthews Jr, Cushing, Laurenitis, Brace, Brinkley and a slew of other DT and LB talent.

So let’s just trust in Marshall and hope Davis let’s him be creative to squeeze enough finesse from this speedy undersized defense.

  95. jhill Says:

    Wassup SnB,

Been blessed to be super busy lately, plus wifey is expecting #2. Haven’t had much time to hollar at you guys, but it’s good to have some strong posters on here now that I’m on.

With that said, If you and I were sitting next to each other breaking down film, the one thing I would have a problem with is our MLB not being a guy who attacks. Inexcusible the way he runs around blocks, and only makes tackles 5 yards downfield. And I don’t want to hear about him needing to be clean. Again, like Antonio Pierce illustrated on NFL Network … THERE IS NOT ONE MLB IN THE NFL WHO DOESN’T HAVE A BLOCKER ASSIGNED TO HIM ON EVERY PLAY! … Sorry for yelling that, but that is how strongly I feel about replacing that position.

I’ll even meet you half way and throw in Morrison with Burgess to get Wilfork. And you KNOW I don’t even think we need that guy!

  96. jhill Says:

I still can’t believe we didn’t end up with Maulauga.

    UGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

But I still like our draft this year. Next years defensive draft class is amazing. We will most certainly go Dline in the first and 2nd rd next year.

  97. jhill Says:

Seriously, you’d rather have Gradkowski that Vick?

  98. vegas raider Says:

It is tough to buy the philosophy of getting better on Run D, when it has been literally the worst over the last 5 years, without improving the talent much. Rob Ryan wasn’t any good, but I think he just compounded the problem, but he wasn’t THE problem.

  99. SnB Defense Says:

First I was rooting for Curry to fall to number 7. Then I was hoping Rey would get to #40. But in retrospect I am kind of glad that didn’t happen. I probably would have jumped out of the window had they actually passed those players up at the respective positions. Its obvious the Raiders strategy for rounds 1 and 2 had no contingency for the two players they wanted. I think Mitchell will be a decent player…I am not so sure about Heyward-Bey. I think he will be a decent receiver….but number 7 picks need to be GREAT receivers. He can’t be the guy that gets one or two nice catches and disappears. That’s my fear with Heyward-Bey.

As for Gradkowski vs. Vick? Vick isn’t worth the P.R nightmare. I give Cable and Davis credit for at least presenting a normal offseaon (less the draft) for a change. Vick would be a huge distraction for a young team that is poised to emerge and do some good things.

Your position is like mine. Rob Ryan had shortcomings. My thoughts are that they were in his play calling. But to think that an NFL caliber coach would gloss over fundamentals like gap discipline, tackling, staying on-sides is a reach. Especially for a guy that got another Defensive Coordinator job very quickly. In fact, pundits are expecting a very aggressive defense from Ryan in Cleveland. More like his brother.

We will see. Bottom line is the front 7 has to play much, much, much better since no new talent was really brought in to improve the run defense. Ellis is a pass rusher. The Raiders are also starting to pile up a lot of situational players and not enough everydown players.

Well, I hope the team finishes well enough that they aren’t in a position for another top 10 pick. Hopefully the Marshall plan is effective in getting these guys to play at the level of their contracts or potential.

I just discovered I was deleted…said nothing wrong…and as a Canadian I have been well trained in the art of not saying anything politically incorrect!

The fact that I have been deleted is reason enough for me as a CANADIAN to no longer participate in this piece of crap CENSORING done by pieces of crap who can’t get a real job little peons.

I will miss what I got here…but cannot stand for or support that!

  103. Random Drug Tester Says:

for the record…I believe the Raiders should win the division, or will lose it late in the year. But they will definitely win it next year! And for many years after!

  104. jhill Says:

Don’t think we will get a top 10 pick at all, but the draft is deep enough to get a quality DT around 18 or so, and a quality OG in rd 2.

I think we could wind up with someone better than a Ron Brace at NT in next years draft.

Still glad we passed on Raji. I could end up being wrong about that, but I just wan’t feeling that guy. I understand that he was the “best DT available”, but this year, that wasn’t saying much.

As for DHB, I think he’s looking at at least 2 deep balls per game. I think his catches will have everything to do with how many times they throw him the ball. If he gets 5 or 6 throws his way per game, he’ll be just fine.

  105. Nnamdi21 Says:

    100. Again, offense is the defenses best friend especially with Oaklands pass rush coverage heavy D scheme.

Lorenzo and Bush in goal line situations sounds alot better than last year,

JERRY MACDONALD!!! Manage your blog as well as you demand that Al Davis runs the Raiders!

Al gets rid of stuff that hurts his Raiders…so should you.

Warren Sapp – took Raider money, got the game jersey, went nowhere, bad mouth all the time = MADDENRAIDER, DUDE, CROW

Javon Walker – drinking champagne, hanging out in cool places with cool people, contributing nothing = N0rco B0b, Alame!da Ins!der, MaddenRaider, Dude, Crow, Beecham

Addition through subtraction Jerry…lead by example, clean up your own house, people who live in glass houses, etc. etc.

People want to come here to be Raider fans, not blogging professionals
