Raiders ratings on Madden NFL 10
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 at 4:17 pm in Oakland Raiders.
If you’re like me and aren’t into video games, this post carries little significance.
But here’s a link to a post from Entertainment and Arts blogger Danny Willis regarding ratings of the Raiders players on this season’s Madden NFL 10 game as determined by EA Sports.
Also included is a link to the Madden NFL 10 database.

LOL,
Chaz and JLH were rated higher last year!
I will DEFINATELY be adjusting my starters!
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:27 pm
Thank you Jerry.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:28 pm
Jhill really? Thats F**ked!
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:28 pm
I hear ya on the Oline AZ, and I hope it not only picks up where we left off last year, but improves. Hopefully Satele is healthy, and Barnes or Pears is an upgrade at RT.
Just saying that overall, we need to step the level of play up 1000% from where is was last year at LT, RT, and C.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:29 pm
Not very good safeties, not very good D-Line, can’t argue with that.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:30 pm
Darrius Heyward-Bey – 76
Louis Murphy – 71
Javon Walker – 71
Johnnie Lee Higgins – 69
Chaz Schilens – 64
Arman Shields – 50

Wow…I normally care about the Madden stuff…I didn’t even know the game was out yet. I think I’ve finally grown up. Naahhh!!

Your “change in attitude” is really catching me off guard SnB, lol. Everything is rosy for you now that camp is approaching?
=======================================================
Free agency, the draft and all that is over now. I am done with my “recommendations”. Its time for the team to get at it on the field and I’ll will stay upbeat and positive as they craft the team in camp. At least the players are talking with a same upbeat optimism with what is going on with the new coaches.
Plus, a lot of guys on this team know that this is the year or else.
Morrison, Howard, Burgess and Barnes are in contract years
Chaz, JLH want to keep their starting jobs
DHB and Mitchell are already under the gun due to their draft status.
Henderson and Murphy signed on with Drew Rosenhaus
Tommy Kelly, Javon Walker, Michael Huff, Terdell Sands all know they have to show up this year or it could be their last
Chris Johnson wants to prove he’s an elite cornerback
DMAC and Bush want to kick start their careers
And Russell has a whole heaping plate of “Hate” served daily to him by the fanbase and the media
Cable has realize this is his only real chance at staying an NFL Head Coach
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:32 pm
LOL LOL
At least Mike Mitchell has a 92 Hit Power
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:33 pm
Madden’s got the O-Line rated pretty good.

Schilens is going to show the league something this year. I will be drafting him late for my fantasy team
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:34 pm
We’re going 5-11 until the Raiders prove otherwise. Thats the way I see it. No more 9-7 guesses or any other disappointments like that.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:34 pm
Why is chaz a 64, and why is TScott at 64?? Makes no sense.
DMC is a 79!!!
I’m not buying Madden 10, and I will update the roster on my 09 madden.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:35 pm
I hate drafting Raiders on my fantasy league. Nothing worse than watching the team lose in real life while also losing your fantasy team because that said player didn’t get the necessary stats and considering our passing game is a question mark…why gamble picking a player who may never show up? I go with the sure thing in fantasy because I’m in it to win it.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:36 pm
I can see it already… I’m a Madden freak, but JR and Schilens were the bomb squad.. i can see it now… Pick after pick, after pick after pick…
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Raider O – Chaz is a no name. He had a couple of good games. Scott is also a no name who had a couple of good games. You have to be better over a longer period of time to get the ratings.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Don’t worry O …
The updated rosters after the season starts will take care of that.
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:37 pm
How does JLH and Schilens both get docked!??????!
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:37 pm
That is of course as long as we start off strong. Can’t expect our team to have a bunch of highly rated players with the record we have.
It is what it is.

24,
So you would pass up DMac in rnd 2, and Miller as your TE this year?
Seabass?
How can you not have Raiders on your team and in your team name?
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:45 pm
Good thing these ratings get updated as the season goes on…. DMAC – 79…… Rubbish!
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:47 pm
i dont pass on DMAC or Miller.
I had Miller last year, and he was consistant, but TD’s were low
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:58 pm
R.I.P. Gidget!
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:09 pm

RAIDER ON!!!!!!!!!!
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:10 pm
JHill – My team name is always San Jose Raiders. I wouldn’t pass up on Zach Miller because hes a good TE but he may not get me the fantasy points with only 4 TD’s and I look at that as well but hes definitely a good option. If I was confident in JR and if I knew Miller spent more time pass catching instead of blocking, that would make a big difference as well. There are so many variables. McFadden is an unknown at this point and your team should be strong with RB’s. I would go for TD machines first. I would try to get 2 proven RB’s and then McFadden would be a really nice 3rd RB selection later on if he was still available.
I could always take the gamble on him early but that could hurt my team if he proves to be not durable or the Raider offense sputters like they have over the last 6 years. The funny thing is…all the solid backs I usually choose either get hurt or don’t play well and I end up finding gems in the free agent market usually. You just never know but when it comes to the Raiders…I’ll choose the players if they’re proven and put up stats. Rich Gannon was a classic example of a guy who could win you fantasy games.
Seabass? We’d need to score more points as an offense and get closer to the redzone for me to choose Seabass, otherwise I’m going with a top notch kicker because those guys can give you alot of fantasy points if you get good kickers on high octane offenses.
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:18 pm
LOL, 24 …I guess that’s why I haven’t won in a few years.
I always end up with Oakland’s D and Seabass week 1. I usually pick def and K last, so WTF?
I’m really caring less these days about my team, since I am no longer in that “office” that started it. I really think I am going to try and have a Raider at every position!
How sweet will it be to win it with Raiders on the squad?
July 22nd, 2009 at 5:21 pm
DHB is the Second Worst rookie from the 1st rd in madden 1st is that ginger qb that tampa picked forget his name dont care wut his name is thought all the madden guys were raider fans??? wtf 7-9
July 22nd, 2009 at 6:18 pm

ITS FINALLY HERE!!!! THANK GOD
for those of you who are wondering. the closest player we have had with a hammer is morrison and its a weak 76.

July 22nd, 2009 at 9:58 pm
JHill – I won my fantasy league 2 years in a row and was 3rd place last year. I play to win. Picking a bunch of Raiders players isn’t fantasy football. Its bias and you won’t win playing that game so its pointless to even play fantasy if thats what you’re going to do. You have to think of your fantasy team as if you truly had your own team. Are you telling me that you would take all the Raider players and play them against anybody in the NFL? Well…look at the last 6 years and thats the result.
If I was to build a team and I had to draft any players from the NFL…I would draft the Pro Bowlers. I would draft the great players, Raider or not. Thats the point, its not a popularity contest. Its not who your favorite players are…its building the best team you can possibly build in order to win even if its LaDainian Tomlinson. I’ll be honest, I’ve started Tomlinson against the Raiders because I knew he would get 200 yards and 4 TD’s but in my heart, I always hoped he would fail because I’d rather see the Raiders win and my fantasy team lose.
If you were to pick any kicker in the NFL, would you honestly pick SeaBass over Vinatieri or Gostkowski as an example? Hell no. I would go with the sure thing. I would go with the clutch guy. You picked the Raiders defense? Why? They get torched on the ground every year and teams pile up points on us. That hurts you in fantasy. I’d rather have the Raven defense or the Steeler defense or a defense that won’t get scored on while also getting turnovers. Thats the way I would want the Raiders to be so I’m going to draft accordingly.
In the end…the Raiders winning is the most important thing and if my fantasy numbers suffer because of it then I don’t care but I’m going to build my team like I would if I was an NFL GM. Thats whats fun about it.

Why should a small business have to provide health care to it’s employees.
That’s why the auto industry can’t compete.

I don’t ever want to hear about a media conspiracy against Al, ever again. I just watched the HBO Real Sports segment on Barret Robbins. After the segment, Bryant Gumble asks Andrea Kramer the million dollar question. Why didn’t the Raiders’ doctors ever address Robbins’ mental illness? Kramer just gives some glazed over answer about how they didn’t know it was that serious and whatever, and Gumble moves on. Conspiracy against Al or not, considering allegations in the past regarding the Raiders’ looking the other way at not only players’ off field problems, but even downplaying serious injuries (Dr. Huzienga’s book), Al
Davis’s supervision of Robbins’ ongoing melt down should have been as much of the story as anything else. If there were a conspiracy against Al, it most certainly would have been. Again, it should have been, anyway. Robbins’ being bi-polar, there is no way the SD melt down was the first the Raiders’ knew of it. He was probably flipping out all of the time, and the team swept it under a rug. There’s no conspiracy against Al, guys. The media’s just saying the Raiders suck because they do. It’s that simple.

MR what should the Raiders have done with Barret Robbins? They most likely knew he had a mental illness. They couldn’t cut him for that. What should they have done? Watched him 24/7 with a baby sitter?
Mental illness is something that you can treat, but never really control. All you can do is support them and make sure they take their meds and HOPE it goes ok.

————————————————-
Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. lst off, Davis does NOT “supervise” Robbins. That is a preposterous statement. I personally heard about the Robbins meltdown as I was walking into Qualcomm Stadium the morning of that SuperBowl. The story I heard walking in, was Davis sent Robbins back to Oakland that morning because Robbins melted down. At the time, and now years later, I thought it was the right decision. You just don’t send someone who is completely off their nut, into a Super Bowl game!! Now, maybe someone can come forward and say Robbins was off his nut for years, but that was the first time any of us had heard about any of this!! Sending Robbins back to Oakland, was the RIGHT thing to do. It might have cost us that ring, but it was the right thing to do.
Come on MR, you used to post somewhat decent stuff. Sending a certified off his gourd crazy person lunatic into a SUPERBOWL game, just to win, would have been the wrong thing to do. Even you should know that. We didn’t do that. Davis did the RIGHT thing. What is wrong with you??

Danny Southwick, Luke Lawton or Louis Rankin either …
Arman Shields is ranked 50, while Jon Alston is ranked 45!
Greg Ellis isn’t a Raider.
McFadden ranks the same as Fargas.
Cornell Green ranks the same as Mario Henderson.
Satele, Wade, Carlisle & Barnes are all ranked higher than Gallery.
Javon Walker ranks higher than both Higgins & Schilens

July 23rd, 2009 at 6:48 am
There are also 4 “ranking” updates every year. So if some key players go out there and light it up, thier ranking will increase when the update comes out. Last year DMAC’s ranking went down because he was in and out of games with injury, and didnt put up the #’s. Where C. Johnsons went up after the final ranking update.
July 23rd, 2009 at 6:48 am

Players report to training camp in Napa next Tuesday. Practice begins two days later. In the next seven days, we”ll evaluate position groups heading into camp.
Today, let’s start with the most important position of the season: quarterback. All projections are my own, since there is no depth chart yet.
Projected starter: JaMarcus Russell. The franchise arm enters Season 3 hoping to build on a relatively strong finish to his redshirt freshman year in the pros.
It’s a stretch to define this as a make-or-break season — two years of starting does not a career make — but it will go a long way towards seeing where this No. 1 overall draft pick is headed. It worked that way for Alex Smith across the Bay, and it will be no different for Russell.
This offense will allow Russell to develop as a game manager who hands the ball off more often that not. But, when a downfield strike is called for, it needs to be made. That’s what strong arms are for, and they certainly didn’t draft Russell to be the Checkdown and Screen King.
Projected backup: Jeff Garcia. He’s here to push Russell into being a 24-7 NFL quarterback. Garcia isn’t unlikely to take the starting job in camp, but he’s not a bad backup plan if Russell gets hurt or flat-out stinks it up for a prolonged period of time. And Russell will have to be pretty bad for Al Davis to pull the plug.
Projected No. 3: Charlie Frye, a late addition who should be able to fend off Bruce Gradkowski for clipboard duty. Andrew Walter is as good as gone. As for Danny Southwick, he’ll draw a decent check with free meals as a camp arm — we should all be so lucky.
By David White (SF Gate)
July 23rd, 2009 at 6:58 am
On to the running backs …
Projected RB starter: Justin Fargas. I know this will make most fans groan and complain, but coach Tom Cable still likes how Fargas handles the heavy workload.
I’d be stunned if Fargas finishes the season as the starter, if only because he’ll inevitably get hurt and Darren McFadden will take over the starting job. It’s just a matter of time, but not just yet.
Initially though, the Raiders want a dependable back willing to take the lion’s share of blows to wear down the defense. That person will remain Fargas — for now.
There’s a school of thought out there that Fargas could be cut to save money, but the Raiders already restructured his deal in January to levels they were pleased with. As for his limited carries in the offseason, it was the same way in 2008 to preserve his body.
Projected FB starter: Lorenzo Neal. The alltime great became an instant leader the minute he signed with the Raiders. He’s a power-game blocker by trade, but is expected to adjust enough to work in the zone-blocking scheme.
Projected RB backup: Darren McFadden. The Raiders still aren’t sold on his durability after an injury-plagued rookie season — remember Al Davis’ quote about not knowing what he can do yet in February? They’ll use him as a change-of-pace back early on and get him involved as a receiver, then go from there. He’s also someone who will always be in the game inside the 20.
The longer he holds up, the sooner he becomes the featured back.
Michael Bush will also get fazed in more than he was last year but won’t be considered for everydown duty. Short-yardage downs and fourth-quarter cameos could work out nicely for him. The key for him is to be patient and wait his turn without brooding. The Raiders have started a third back in each of the past three seasons because of attrition. He’ll get his chance.
Projected FB backup: Gary Russell, who can also chip in at running back when bodies aren’t healthy. Oren O’Neal hasn’t set foot on a football field since a major knee injury last season. The Physically Unable to Perform list could be his first stop in Napa.
The others: RB Louis Rankin and FB Marcel Reece could wind up back on the practice squad because of the numbers game. FB Luke Lawton’s best hope as a special teams guy is a slow return from O’Neal.

LOL,
I suck too, but only with the Raiders cause Madden the recievers drop EVERYTHING. I swear, I’ll hit them in the #’s without a defender within 5-10 yards and it’ll bounce right off their hands LOL.
Gotta get good at the “possesion catch” and “user catch” if you want to be competative with the Raiders.
Give me the Pats and Randy Moss, and I can’t lose LOL. But, I only use them to play the magical Cowboys… Romo is rediculous in that game…

July 23rd, 2009 at 7:01 am
The Chargers will wear their 1963 powder blue jerseys in Week 1 at Oakland
In the NFL, the home team receives the opportunity to choose which jersey it will wear. The Raiders chose their white Throwbacks for the Monday Night Football opener, which means the Chargers will be in their 1963 Throwbacks. The Chargers chose the 1963 version to commemorate the team’s AFL Championship season.
The Chargers’ Week 4 win in Oakland last September marked the first time the Raiders had ever worn white uniforms at home.

AZ: I don’t suck! I’m awesome at the game. I just don’t play games on the computer. I prefer playing by myself. My wife bought me the Madden with Shaun Alexander on the cover a few years back and I started playing that on franchise mode. I’ve played it so much that on the game it’s like year 2022 and the franchise “no name” QB I drafted has retired after winning 14 consecutive championships. LOL. I think Johnny Smith or whoever I played with broke all of Dan Marino & John Elway’s records
She bought me Madden 09 with Favre on the cover last year for Christmas and I think I played it twice and let a friend borrow it. haha. I love the franchise mode and I don’t want to start all over with current NFL players
July 23rd, 2009 at 7:16 am
I like to stick it to Charger fans, who always duck me and Bronco fans, who still start Cutler. Don’t know about anyone else, but if they’re not REALLY on the roster, I move them to the bottom of the depth chart… Only was to play IMO.

LOL. I wish!
He’s not on the game and I don’t create players. Since I always win the Super Bowl and pick 32nd, the only way to get one of the Top QB’s is to trade away some of your best picks & players (like New England does in real life). Most of the time I trade down though because I’m happy with my squad and only need 3-5 depth players

I bet all the Raider players play that video game too…kinda strange to imagine a bunch of 250+ pound goliaths punching buttons and staring at a screen like they’re 12.
Of course, my boy Danny doesn’t play Madden NFL 10. When he became the leader of the Oxy squad, he put away childish things.

Rockstar,
I saw the write up you posted on the running backs. Looks like the writer thinks Fargas is still the man.
WHat is it that Fargas does that is so extraordinary? Fargas is a nice back…but he’s not a great back.
DMAC and Bush should be getting 15 to 20 carries a game each….meaning some games Bush might get 20 and DMAC 15 or vice versa.
The key to this season is Tom Cable putting the BEST players on the field. Not his favorite players.
Fargas can’t catch and his per carry average has been under 4 yds in 2 of the last 3 yrs. You don’t start a running back because his primary skill is pass protection!
And WHY THE HELL ARE THE RAIDERS USING TOP 10 PICKS FOR PLAYERS THEY AREN’T EXPECTING TO CONTRIBUTE FOR 3 AND 4 YEARS! I say this because they drafted DMAC. Play the kid. Its funny how Raider rookies rarely contribute early in their careers.
Michael Bush ran for 177 yds against Tampa…ran for some 90 yds on 15 carries against K.C…and had 7 CATCHES against San Diego.
Tom Cable has to stop tying a hand behind the Raiders collective backs and play the best players.
Tired of hearing this stuff

Cmon RRS, PS2?!?!?!
July 23rd, 2009 at 7:36 am
And here is another truth…the Raiders ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET 3 RUNNING BACKS THE BALL!
It can’t happen. Its impossible. Bush and DMAC are guys that need at least 15 carries to be effective. DMAC being a home run hitter just needs to get swings at the plate…Bush’s ability to wear down defenses and break one necessitates him getting more time with the ball.
Neither of those guys will be successfull with 3 or 4 carries a game.
If they love Justin Fargas so much that they insist on getting him the ball…then trade one of the other 2 TRADEABLE running backs and keep the third back “Fargas” who is NOT tradeable.
Ridiculous

Bradon Jacobs and Derrick Ward got lions share of carries….Armon Bradshaw was a little used change of pace back.
DMAC and Bush should be double digit carries per game….Justin Fargas also requires double digit carries to be effective.
Figure the Raiders run the ball about 30x a game. You can’t divde 30 carries among 3 ball carriers effectively.
Bush getting 5 or 6 carries a game is useless.
July 23rd, 2009 at 7:53 am
I was pisst we kept putting DMAC out there after the KC game when he wasnt healthy enough to play. I guess we thought DMAC at 65% was better than letting him sit and get healthy a couple weeks, which just KEPT him at 65-70% for the rest of the season rather that 90% for 75% of the season. one of the few mistakes I thought Cable made was to continue doing that to him after Kiffin was fired.

But we all know Cable has his favorites and Davis has his scholarships. I love hustle guys too…but you have to have superior talent…especially for the way the Raiders play football.
If you run the ball over 200x…you have to have more than 1 rushing TD. And that 1 TD came after Chris Johnson intercepted a pass all the way to the half inch line
July 23rd, 2009 at 7:57 am
If you guys noticed it takes Bush a minute to get a rythm, but when he does….. WOW, he can play. I don’t think we should have a 3 back system. Bush should START every game as we pound the ball, like we do with fargas, to wear on the D line. Then it’s the McBush show for the rest of the game….
July 23rd, 2009 at 7:57 am
S&B,
30 times a game sounds very good.
I would give 15 carries to DMC, 10 to Bush, and 5 to Fargas.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:00 am
Johnson is badazz! Love it! Thanks Prime Time!
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:01 am
I know it’s early, but I don’t recall better players sitting on the bench in favor of “scholarship” players. Last year was crazy on a lot of levels, but there is no way a healthy DMac is not going to be on the field.
With that said, I still am not convinced that Bush will beat out Fargas. Fargas is not a slouch. He’s not the home run hitter that Bush and McFadden could be, but again I say Fargas is no slouch. I have no problem with Fargas as a backup to McFadden. If Bush ran as “hard” as Fargas did, then this wouldn’t even be a conversation.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:02 am

AZ Raider,
DMAC was healthy for the last 6 games of the year. The media started jumping on Cable and the fans were screaming.
This got so bad that JaMarcus Russell had to go have a talk with him.
And during all this time…Cable let Michael Bush sit on the bench. And then Bush comes in only after DMAC and Fargas both get hurt and the kid just runs for 177 yds and 2 tds.
See, the Raiders are so used to plodding mediocre performances…that when we have players that can really light it up…we come up with a half-dozen reasons why the performance was a fluke or why he needs to sit on the bench and watch someone less-effective.
I really like Fargas as a player and leader. But Al Davis gave up on Fargas when he spent a number 4 overall for an elite talent in DMAC AND brought another back “Bush” knowing he was a 1st round talent and rested him.

Actully better off giving those 5 carries to Michael Bush and let him keep pounding the defense

July 23rd, 2009 at 8:09 am
snb,
Sorry bro, but DMAC was in no way healthy… We never let him heal. If i can find that interview with him I’ll post it. The toe was bothersom the rest of the season after the KC game. Maybe he got “better”, but was never better than 70% after that game. We’d put him in to make some plays (which he did) and it just aggrivated it more, so he goes from 70% to 60-65%. takes it easy for a week and shows up on sunday 70% again, only to repeat the cycle. He needed to sit for 2-3 weeks after the KC game, and we would have seen him starting in front of fargas.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:10 am
Talking about a rhythm, what about giving 1 guy 20-25 carries and really seeing what he can do?
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:11 am
Again, a 4th overall pick shouldn’t be used for a “change of pace” back. He should be a starter or get significant carries.
Michael Bush was drafted because the Raiders felt they got a steal. Not to have him run 4 or 5 times a game at the goal line. Those type of 4 carry backs you get in free agency.
Again, Al Davis decided to bulk up the running back position. He should let his young guns go out there and get after it.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:13 am
O,
Huff second guesses his defensive reads and can’t decide what he’s gonna do until its too late. Like I’ve said before, DB’s need to have a “feel” for whats going on and trust thier instincts. Ask Woodson, Woodson, Asomugha, ED Reed….

=======================================================
Depends on what kind of team you have. Do you go with 2 backs or 1 back. I like the 2 back system. Keeps both running backs healthy and if you have guys with different running styles…it allows more diversity in play calling etc….
The Raiders have a good problem. They have 3 RBs that are starting capable. Each with their own strengths. My argument is to go ahead and run with 2 guys…trade the 3rd…and have Rankin be the 3rd back.
I don’t think DMAC, Bush or Fargas would be happy as the 3rd running back and none of them should be.
Fargas’ playing time was sealed when Davis drafted McFadden with the 4th overall.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:16 am
Jhill,
Who are you talking about? DMC or Bush?
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:17 am
The real issue is our Oline!
If our Oline, with it’s 3 new starters in 09, can get the job done, then it won’t really matter who is running the ball.
It’s a good problem to have 3 solid RBs. No need to bash the 3rd RB, or get riled up over David White. McFadden will get the bulk of the workload, and Bush will at a minimum see short yardage and goal line situations. You talk about competition, well if Fargas beats out Bush for playing time, then it is what it is.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:20 am
I’ve been telling you since the summer that we should trade Bush, especially while his value was so high.
Should’ve moved him to Tampa when they called. Bush, Walter, and Burgess should have all been traded.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:22 am

July 23rd, 2009 at 8:24 am
JHill,
As long as Fargas beats out Bush on the field. Not because of these so-called “intangibles”…And before you trade Bush..let’s keep in mind that Fargas is 29 years old and we all know that running backs hit the wall at 30.
When Fargas hits the wall…he’s going to really be ineffective.
So why not stick with the younger, more dynamic Michael Bush and not pin our hopes on an injury proned 29 year old
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:24 am
O,
DMac. Fargas is more than capable as a backup. Bush wants to start, and has already made waves showing he is not a team first guy. I believe the guy is talented, and should be on the field instead of Fargas. His dum arse could’ve already been there if he had taken the opportunity last year. Fullback, schmulback, you would’ve been on the field, and touched the ball at least 10 times. So what if you have to block someone 20 times?

Rockstar,
If you look at the list of two back systems the breakdown is approximately
15 to 20 carries for the primary back
10 to 15 carries for the back-up
The Raiders can do this with DMAC and Bush easily
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:34 am
Ok,
We just disagree fundamentally SnB. I really don’t care if it is Bush or DMac, but that #1 guy should get 20-25 carries a game. A good example is Carolina, right? Deangelo Willams was the #1 back and got 20 carries all the time. Depending on how the game flowed, the backup, Stewart, got 5-15 carries.
For whatever reason, I’m going with DMac as my #1. I think that Fargas would be a fine backup. That doesn’t mean that I think Fargas would be a better #1 than Bush, if that makes sense. But with Dmac as my starter, I have no problem with Fargas as a backup.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:34 am
In the 02 draft we selected N Harris in the 1st at 23, and the Ravens drafted Reed with the 24th pick!
We had drafted a S in the 1st RD the year before, and his name was Gibson.
It wasn’t meant to be, but Maybe MM, Branch, and Huff can make me forget.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:37 am
Totally agree RRS,
This conversation should really be about our Oline. We all know we have talented backs, but there are legitimate question at LT, RT, and C. There MIGHT be answers on the roster, but at this point there are certainly questions and concerns!
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:37 am
Huff, should go to that “Prime U” camp like Chris Johnson did. Might…. No, it WILL make him better.
Not even Prime U can help Huff!
***
excuse me? Huff was a 7th overall pick who dominated at Texas. CJ was a 7th rounder in 2003 who got by the Packers, Rams & Chiefs! He was out of football in 2006. Don’t know if you remember him in 2007 (before Prime U) but his game was ugly. I mean dreadful! I was calling for him to be cut. he got burnt like toast all preseason long and still made the roster. he didn’t have fluid hips or something. Reminded me of watching and reading about Michael Waddell in the 2008 offseason, an embarassment.
I have no clue how he turned it around, but Sanders, Willie Brown, Darren Perry, Nnamdi, somebody said something or taught him something and he totally impressed me after taking over for DeAngelo Hall last year! no reason Huff can’t do the same …

JHill,
The Raiders have to start looking at its players as “football players”…not just athletes that are interchangeable at any position like a video game.
Bush has as much business being an FB as Chris O’Neil does at Middle Linebacker…or Tyler Brayton at SLB.
Bush speeking up is not unusual in the NFL. Bush took snaps at FB anyway.
But the guy is a Running BAck.
Here’s my problem with this entire situation.
I see scant evidence that Justin Fargas can be a game changer. Can be explosive…or consistently good.
I saw Bush take over a game (Tampa)…and I saw him rip off some game winning runs (K.C)….and he demonstrated versitility by catching 7 passes aganst S.D.
Fargas is a 3 yds and a cloud of dust type of running back. He can’t score either. 200+ carries and only 1 touchdown AND the guy is 29 yrs old.
To me the decision is fairly easy and straightforward.
Perhaps they should move Justin Fargas to Safety
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:42 am
Yes your right with that assesment on Huff, our oline will be much improved, though I am concerned about the dline. We need to be able to stop the run and generate a pass rush to make qbs throw b4 they want to

Like I said RR, he went to that (Prime U) camp… It changed his whole game. You watch him in coverage NOW, and he mixes his stance up, fakes the jam, strips the arms instead on defending the ball in jump-ball situations… His head is just plain IN IT! He’s a spitting image of a shut down CB, and it’s all thanks to Mr. Sanders and his DB camp. Those are his tricks, and they STILL work. He’s way old to just be showing up, but he looks in good shape and has speed at 29. He’ll have 5 solid seasons for us IMO, unless he was just lucky last season, but it appeared to be skill…
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:44 am

We are talking about a backup RB role here, SnB. Fargas can do the job, and I’m sure a pretty good job at that, of being a backup RB.
It’s moot anyway, because Bush will be on the field in short yardage situations, and most goal line situations. He’s also going to be a single back running behind 2 TEs. David White doesn’t know WTF he is talking about! He just woke up from a summer nap.

Funny you say that about Chaz. Don’t see you much in here but i pump him up in here all the time. Had a custom jersey made up for him last week I should get next month, as his jersey is not availible anywhere I can find. Also ordered my Miller jersey at the same time!
1. Chaz
2. DHB
3. Higgins/Walker
4. Murphy
I’m also a believer in Walker, even if it’s a long shot. Just think he lacks experience in our system and confidence on the field, with all that’s been going on with him. Most won’t agree, but maybe i want it to be true more than it is…

“Henry Louise Gates Jr., was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct at his home near Harvard last week after a neighbor called in a report of a possible break-in. Gates, who was returning from a trip abroad, and his driver, had been trying to force open a front door.”

Hmmm, I guess you can’t even blame the person who reported it…any good samaritan would do the same. And the guy’s ID he tried to used didn’t even have an address on it to prove he lived there…then he went all KoolKell on the cop and got busted…tough schit.

see ya Keller. be nice to all the h0nkies you see over the weekend, alright?
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:05 am
JHill,
The “back-up” in Oakland is going to get a lot of carries. Look DMAC has to prove he is an everydown workhorse for 16 games.
He came out of this year with two turf toes, a shoulder injury and a busted up ankle.
Not saying he shouldn’t get carries…but with Bush in the mix it takes some of the wear and tear off…there is a reason these running backs fade out pretty quickly
Fargas hasn’t completed a season yet.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:06 am
Oh, that #80? Rice? Cool beans! 1,000+ yards for my Cali native Chaz Schilens this year!

July 23rd, 2009 at 9:11 am
JHill,
The O-Line is pretty good at running the football. Its the pass protection and penalties that have plagued this team.
If Henderson can keep up his momentum from last year and whoever becomes the RT stops the penalties…the Raiders should be okay

July 23rd, 2009 at 9:19 am
Use bush/dmac just like Giants use their backs lot of carries for both and they both can catch the ball so it makes both so versatile why would you want to trade bush and keep fargas?
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:21 am
SnB, what are you talking about the Raiders use players as athletes instead of football players with specific positions? What do the Raiders do that every other team doesn’t do with players?
Jhill, trading Bush would’ve been a disaster, horrible move>
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:21 am
the McFadden/Bush/Fargas trio combined for a total of 426 carries last season. We had 419 passing attempts. that’s a balanced offense.
the Jets top 3 backs combined for 378 carries. the Jags top 3 backs combined for 342 carries.
he it’s not just about the number of carries. it’s about production …
Fargas had almost twice as many carries as DMC last year. If DMC would have had 226 carries, instead of 113 he would have 1000 yards and 8 TD’s last year. The wrench in this plan is … he has to stay healthy and Cable has to start the most talented back.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:22 am
Yeah, I used to post here a lot. I was just too lazy to register after they made the change lol but yeah I have been a big fan of Chaz since we drafted him and im looking for hime to be much better this year. Though im not sold on Walker im pulling for him. I hope he has the right mind frame to get out there and do damage on the field. I think Miller will go to the pro bowl this year, I truly think him and russell have a good chemistry going and with the addition of Meyers Miller will get more touches and tds!
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:25 am
If Fargas gets more than 3 touches a game someone needs to be terminated.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:30 am

Raider O: you have an easy out. In your culture/religion, you get to have 4 wives, right?

one to be a good lover

one to be a servant
LOL! booyah. I’m the smartest man alive!
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:30 am
I’ve always heard that more things a player can do better for that player. Bill Walsh was a master at maximizing a player to play several positions. Something we’ve done since Al Davis was HC. All of a sudden it’s bad?
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:31 am
Priest,
How do you know the trade would have been a horrible move? Wouldn’t that depend on what we got for him?
Again, nothing against Bush, but if he is not going to be the #1 back, he can be on the block. Especially since we have a capable backup and #3 guy in Fargas and Rankin.
You guys are forgetting that the cut blocking scheme is extremely RB friendly. THE BACKUP RB DOES NOT MATTER!

true enough. look at all the RB’s Denver had success with in year’s past…
Jordan, Fargas, Rhodes and Echemandu were all ripping it up in 2007!
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:35 am
MBush is IMO one of the most dynamic HB’s in the NFL. Trading him for any reason other than for AP would IMO be foolish.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:36 am
Jhill,
Bush on the block? Tisk Tisk…. Cut fargas (sorry love ya bro but…), sign Rankin to be the 3rd RB and be on with it… The need for 2 premier RB’s is just what the game has evolved into.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:37 am
Michael Bush is the best 3rd string RB in the league!
a lock for the 53 man roster.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:37 am
Priest,
I understand some of the successes with moving players around. Problem is that it usually takes quite a bit of time to do the transition.
I also don’t like the idea of moving young players around to positions of need.
For example, Slade Norris/Stryker Sulak/Chris O’Neil to compete for the linebacker spots. Why not just draft a college player that played the SLB position in college and develop him. It just seems like a lot of “out of the box” thinking to try and develop a player on a 5-11 team that has never really played the position before.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:38 am
Great players are great players average players are average players………….period
schemes do not win games players do and the better the player the more games you’ll win.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:40 am
Do you want a nice running attack…or a dynamic running attack that can take over a game.
When DMAC scorched K.C or Bush dismantled T.B…that’s the type of games that dynamic running backs have several times a year.
It takes talent for a running back to just dominate a game or significantly inpact the game.
JHill, you talk about Denver and their stable of backs….but rarely did that running game take over and win games…sure lots of production…but that running game hasn’t been fearful since Terrel Davis.
Talent wins games. That’s why Al Davis keeps trying to bring in talent that have superior capabilities.
Taking over games…not just production
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:40 am
SnB, not at all it’s what coaches do when they get the player in camp and see him in their system. His skills dictate what they do in terms of changing positions if they think he’s talented enough to make the change otherwise they may cut him.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:40 am
Priest,
If schemes can lose games, they can win them… How many games did Rob Ryan lose becuase of his “prevent defense”? That’s a scheme… What about D-Hall? He’s a great player in zone coverage, but can’t play man-up to save his life.

=======================================================
I get what you are saying. All I am saying is that when there is a position of need…you are looking for someone for said position that you can plug in and learn as they go. When you move someone to a position they are unfamiliar with….its hard for the coaches to put them on the field at first.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:44 am
Todd Christenson was a FB who the Raiders convinced to play TE look what happened. It just depends on what the coaches see once they actually get the player.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:44 am
What good does it to have AP on the team if he is going to only get 10-15 carries a game?
Why not parlay that, if you are not going to use him properly, for a guy that can play 100% of the snaps?
If Bush is AP, then make him the #1 and trade McFadden.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:44 am
Maybe that’s why CJ has improved? Along with the Prime-U camp, he is playing man to man in Oakland? Schemes have to fit the talent is my point…
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:46 am

apparently Tom Cable didn’t get that memo regarding his o-line!
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:46 am
A lot of times that player is not as good at that position as he is at another, it’s better for the player.
Lester Hayes was a WSLB and safety at Texas A&M, turned into a HOF type corner.

What good is it to have AP if he’s going to get 10 – 15 carries if there is someone on the team capable of starting over AP Jhill. That is a DAMN GOOD thing you probably have Gale Sayers.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:52 am
In othr words AP is going to start……….period. That is how talented I think MBush is…..to think that Fargas will get more carries than Bush is folly.
I would be surprised if as the season wears on that Bush doesn’t get more carries than all 3. This kid is way toooo talented not to.
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:58 am
Neither, Ronald Curry nor Jerry Porter played WR in college. They’ve carved out good careers with that change from Al Davis. Both have attracted good contracts.
July 23rd, 2009 at 10:01 am
Like I said ..
I’m not going to get myself worked up over David White’s non sense.
But Fargas is more than capable of being a #2 back for the Raiders, which is my only point. I never said he was better than DMac or Bush.
