Burgess nets probably a third and a fifth

Here’s the compensation for the deal which sent Derrick Burgess to the New England Patriots, as relayed by beat Steve Corkran, who called while I was driving home from Napa:

As it stands, the Raiders get a third and a fourth round draft pick in 2010. The Patriots, however, wanted to give Oakland a third and a fifth. Problem is, they don’t currently have a fifth-round draft pick. So it was stipulated that if New England acquired a fifth-round pick from someone else, that pick would be dealt to Oakland.

So expect the Patriots to acquire a fifth-round pick from someone else so they can keep their selection in the fourth round.

hopefully our team will finish well enough that we will be able to just draft the best player available regardless of position next year instead of having to draft for position of need.but do we really want to start talking about next years draft already?

  • raidertbone

Got too many LBs and DBs, as it is. Oh, wait a minute — Al is drafting (Fabian Washington, Michael Huff, etc.) I stand corrected!

  • raidertbone

Most good teams play for now and plan for later.

  • lefty12

Mayes will be a top 10 pick.we won’t be in position to get him.

  • raidertbone

He’ll probably end up going to the Patriots.

  • Raider Headbutt

I will settle for Terrence Cody 6-5 365Lbs

Denver also has Eddie Royal, Tony Scheffler & one of the NFL’s beat o-lines.

    =======================

Scheffler’s constantly injured and beat or best, they certainly do NOT have one of the best O lines.

Clady’s had one good year. Looks very strong, but its early in his career. Jay Cutler made him look very very good with his quick release.

C Casey Wiegemann is a 14 yr vet who seriously thought of retirement this off season.

They do have G Ben Hamilton back after a serious concusion in pre season 08′ cost him the whole year.

Tackle Ryan Harris had debilitating back surgery last year and they’re not sure he can stay healthy.

Guard Chris Cuper’s a jack of all trades master of none. Pretty erratic.

Clady and Hamilton maybe solid. Wiegmann’s a vet who can get it done but is in serious decline.

The rest are questionable. Its the system.

    Our system now too…

Lions backup OT Damion Cook is lost for the year with a triceps injury … now’s our chance: we can trade them Khalif Barnes for Calvin Johnson (then we’ll have both Calvin AND Jarmarcus!) … oops, I just woke up!

    2010 draft?

Im telling you guys, google terrence cody. This guy is a beast.

  • 2romes

No!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t wish Burgess well in New England. I hope he is a bust in that system. As far as I’m concerned, he was the primary weak link on the Raiders. He was the primary weak link not because his potential, it was because of his lack of effort and commitment to the Raiders, like his new teammate Randy Moss. May burgess choke on sauted mountain oysters.

Al had better trade away our first rounder, or we had better hope it is in the 20s! How many players on one team can you guarantee to pay 30+ mil?

Al should trade the 1st rouder for more in the third and fourth. Thats where most of our good draftees come from anyway…

Trent Williams (OU) and/or Russell Okung (Oklahoma State); both are big, strong, quick-footed OTs.

ANY team can draft ANY player every year. The question is will you give up enough to move up?

  • AZ Raider

Our first pick had better be DL.

I’m not even trippin on the draft. Still 38 days to go before we shock the world yet Nation.

  • Raider Headbutt

Yea I was reading about those 2 guys as well, look promising. Ciron Black as well, guys hasn’t allowed a sack by the person HE was blocking in 2 years.

  • raidertbone

It’s always fun to talk about the draft, while we wait for actual heads to bash. Speaking of bashing heads, I hope we serve up a few Cowboy heads on a platter next week!

  • Raider Headbutt

Ok so we never draft a LT again?

  • AZ Raider

Haha now your talking T. “Mad Mike” gonna get to unleash the fury in that game LOL. Can’t wait to hear the “thud” when he sticks it to Felix Jones LOL.

  • AZ Raider

Dirt Gallery was no bust… Just not a LT LOL, our bad… Probably one of the best LG’s in the NFL right NOW.

It’s usually easier to switch from left to right on the O-line. Let’s see, who do we have right now at the right OT spot?

  • raidertbone

Got about five more minutes before I have to run, people!

    Later, Nation!
