NFP: Hanson hit by another coach

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, August 17th, 2009 at 12:29 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Randy Hanson was a virtually anonymous assistant coach until he was suspended for a week by Lane Kiffin.

Now Hanson is in the news again, with the National Football post reporting he was injured in an altercation with another coach and briefly hospitalized.

Kiffin claimed Hanson had medical issues, suspended him and wanted him fired. Al Davis instead backed Hanson. Kiffin was eventually fired “for cause.”

When Davis asked about Hanson the day Kiffin was fired, Davis said, “Yeah, he didn’t do anything. That’s another thing _(Kiffin) said he checked with the doctors. I called Bob Albo last night and he said they called me and they told me I had to give this kid an examination and he’s fine.”

Chances are Hanson will be a witness for Davis in his legal battle with Kiffin over pay.

More on this as it develops later when coach Tom Cable is available to the media following practice . . .

Have you guys seen what is scrawling across the espn bottom line?

Viking players think Farve will be their QB this year, lol…this story never goes away!

  2. KoolKell Says:

WTF does that have to do with Lane Kiffin, Jerry

  3. Brien the General Says:

Brett Favre needs to stop this shhit now. As great as he is, the guy is very overrated. He is acting like he is the MJ of all QBs and he is not

  4. Dakota Says:

Gotta love a fight amongst coaches…maybe Defensive Coordinator Al Davis ran him down with a golf cart?

  5. Lynn from Snot Says:

Favre is the never ever ever going to retire.

  6. RaiderMight Says:

This was a weird story to follow. I guess it was written weird.

I hope they fish up this whole Kiffin ordeal soon. Time to fully move on.

  7. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Dakota, the Favre story never seems to go away because it hasn’t gone away. Minnesota players want him. They’re a better team than the Jets and a QB like Favre is just the spark they need to make them a contender this season.

  8. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Brien, the story is that Minnesota’s players want Favre. What is Favre doing wrong? It’s not his fault he’s in demand.

  9. Dakota Says:

Is James lofton still on the payroll? Maybe he flew onto the field and just hit the first person he saw wearing silver and black?

  10. Brien the General Says:

MR, the story would have been dead if he didnt say he may come back week 8. This is all on Favre. He left it open that he may come back. Come on

  11. sjRaider18 Says:

as long as people keep blogging about it and people stay watching reports on nfl network it will never go away

  12. Dakota Says:

    MR,

One of the Viking players already claims the Vikes have signed Favre! Another player thinks it may not be a done deal yet, but by the 3rd preseason game it will be.

    lol

I can’t wait, I think he is just what the Viqueens need…so I hope it happens.

  13. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

“Kiffin claimed Hanson had medical issues, suspended him and wanted him fired. Al Davis instead backed Hanson. ”

Oh, yeh, nothing meddlesome about that… And we’re talking about some 3rd rate assistant nobody’s even heard of. I could see if Kiff was trying to can Willie Brown or something. Al had no intentions of letting Kiffin coach this football team. And when Kiffin tried to anyway, he was ran out of here. I hope he wins his grievance. Al needs to be drug into the 21st century of NFL football one way or another.

  14. RaiderDogg Says:

My guess is that Hanson was discovered as the coach that kept feeding stories to Mike Lombardi so they tried to shut him up by breaking his jaw. Cable probably did it himself. After Hanson was released from the hospital he was seen on his cell phone, presumably speaking with MIKE LOMBARDI!

Brien, you’re right. Favre has no right to tell anyone he might come back. In America, it’s a law that pro athletes can not talk about coming out of retirement. I forgot about that. Forgive me.

    According to Gallup:

“In 47 states, a higher percentage of Americans call themselves conservative than liberal, by margins ranging from 6 to 34 points — with conservatism approaching 50% in several Southern states plus Utah.”

Man, just think what a Rasmussen poll would be like. Seriously, 47-3!!! I think Hannity just splooged.

Nice spin O’Reilly, but that sort of crap works on these other guys in this blog. Check that at the door, you know better MR. Those athletes who have played for a long time need to sit the fuk down and let some younger guys get their shot. It is selfish as hell. He is taking money off of the next man’s plate. Favre has his title and and a boatload of money. Go home man and end this now

Vegas you were given a raw deal and I wish I knew what type of firm you were in before the hammer came down.

I would of warned you what was going to happen. NEVER do Discretionary accounts in the financial business.

They lead to fines, lawsuits and a record on your U-4 form.

You should stay in the financial business your in. You will be hired if you chose to, just be ready to explain what happened.

I’ve been in the financial area for 29 years, I know what I speak.

  23. Brien the General Says:

    4eva!!!!!

  24. Brien the General Says:

MR, I’m amazed for someone who talks about Al needing to sit down so much due to what has happened the last 6 years, you are actually defending an athlete’s right to comeback if he chooses. Funny but an owner who owns the team doesnt have the right to still oversee things. I get ya now

  25. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Vegas Raider, where were you last November when Obama won a bunch of so called red states? Some polls are credible but when election results go entirely the other way, I think it serves as a pretty good litmus test to how credible a poll is. Election results show the Democratic Party making huge gains in southern states, due to so many southern states having growing cities with growing populations of liberal residents.

  26. Brien the General Says:

    Dude, we got a DELL!!!!

  27. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Brien, Favre hasn’t had a 6 year run as bad as Al Davis’s previous 6 years in his entire life. Apples to oranges. Try again.

  28. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Brien, what law says retired athletes have to “sit the fuk down”? Isn’t this America? Doesn’t Brett Favre have the right to market himself?

  29. Brien the General Says:

Look guys lets stop with political talk and just realize Obama is our savior and change has come to America. The economy will be stronger than ever, racism will completely be done away with and people will stop murdering and raping each other. also the jails will be empty and education will be at an all time high. There I said it

  32. vegas raider Says:

    Dell,

I was at a Muni bond firm, but we were full-service. I had a cush job on the trading desk as well, packaging and marketing structured products (mostly equity-linked CD’s and inversion CD’s). They cut that, than cut the salary structure, than they lady threatened with a written complaint. It did go on my U-4, although she hasn’t as of yet went to FINRA.

I have two years to keep my licenses, as you well know, so I am dabbling in the world of senior health care right now, and studying for my life & Health exam. If I don’t like it, I could go back, and I think most of my clients would re-join me. Thanks for the advice and if I would have seen you more on here, I would have definately used the opportunity to pick your brain. You’ve been doing it as long as I have been alive!!!

And BTW, me and you week 1, compadre, in the FFL.

    Go Raiders

I was at the game and watched Satele. I don’t believe he can move or block someone like Nagata the Ravens player but he sure looks quick in the ZBS and getting to the second level to block. He is a lot quicker of foot than wade and Grove.

I think he will have problems with Jammal Williams, similar to that size if he blocks in the others team 3-4 defense NT.

  39. Brien the General Says:

4eva, I cant call it bruh. Just eager to see this first half against the 49ers. Will be interested to see how the d-line plays since SF line isnt as good as Dallas’. I believe we will pass with ease on the 49er secondary

  42. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Lane Kiffin should challenge the Raiders to a scrimmage. Of course the Raiders would win out, but wouldn’t it be funny seeing the Raiders step up to their highest level, in a way they haven’t in years, to avoid embarrassment? Wouldn’t it be great to see the Raiders practice beforehand like it was the Super Bowl, something they could do during their regular NFL season as well, but never seem to do? Kiffin should do it. Just put the offer out there, to hype his players up and show up Al. Vols vs. Raiders, Al. Any time, any place. That would be great for Kiff to throw that out.

I would encourage you to stay in the business. The L/H business is to difficult to explain to potential clients. The rules and laws will make any completed transaction difficult. The variables to comprehend for any individual is way above their area of understanding.

I would like to tell you of my start and my road to success and give you guidance of what to do and not to do.

If you have a e-mail account that I could write you, or better yet, what is your league name? I will send you a note that way, or let me know of another account you have.

Marcus Johnson #78 played real well in the ZBS. I saw him cut on a few running plays as well as pass block real well. The Raiders have him listed as a T, but Cable has refereed to him as a guard.

Did you see him play? Thursday night.

  64. Dakota Says:

    lol at Saint #57…

  65. jhill Says:

Tell me Huff shouldn’t start b/c he is not a play maker on the ball … I can buy that. That’s what you need from your FS.

But to tell me he shouldn’t play, or he is “soft” b/c he is not a “BIG” hitter is ridiculous. We are talking about FS, not MLB or NT.

The best player should start at FS. And that should be the player who is the best ballhawk. If that is Eugene, or Branch, OR HUFF, then let it be what it’s going to be.

How can a guy who was 3rd on the team in tackles the 2 years he played SS be soft? How can the guy who shuts out Gates, Gonzales, and Winslow be soft?

Oh, I forgot, all players from Texas are soft.

  66. SaintKaufman Says:

The timing actually makes it easier, Az, don’t you think? I’m not sure if that is good or bad. I know that I can CLEARLY see the blocking develop now. I was never able to break DMac for 20 yds plus runs. And now? Big runs!

Bro timing to me was off the hook SOOO real you can thread passes… nad make all the throws in the other games you would see some one open RIFLE the ball and boom pick/incomplete….Either they have Jruss wayy better or it is just that much more crisp….

    bro I start

    Chaz on the left
    DHB on the right
    Higgins in the slot
With Muphy in the 4th spot and the play book has him on the field 30 % of the time the playbook is great IMO with the packages and such!!!
Plus you can run the wild cat one time every game for a TD with McFadden it is DOPE!!!1(but it only works once) LOL

The timing actually makes it easier, Az, don’t you think? I’m not sure if that is good or bad. I know that I can CLEARLY see the blocking develop now. I was never able to break DMac for 20 yds plus runs. And now? Big runs!
    …………………………………………….

Oh, I love it now fasho! Just wierd at first like it is every year.

It’s easier to run purley because of Neal. Watch, take him out and run the same plays with same deffense… It;s almost funny how easily you get flattened if the FB is supposed to be the lead blocker and you don’t use Neal.

Possession Catch and Aggressive Catch are a must if you play the Raiders on Madden, as they will catch nothing on thier own. Gotta make ‘em catch it, but I think that how every team should be. I hate the guys that don’t even have to try to catch, even when triple teamed, i.e., Randy Moss & TO

Try the counterplay out of the singleback 2TE set. Run the play to the right side, and before the snap, bring Miller in motion to overload that side. Without question, minimum 8 yd play.

Pardon? I was reading about Raider topics and i (once again) came across your rant about Obama’s failures. You injected politics, not me.

It really irritates me when conservatives want our elected leader to fail just because their clown got thumped.

How would you react if in 2002 I told you I hoped Bush’s idiot wars would fail and I also hoped his rich tax cuts would drive our economy into the ground? You would call me unamerican, sour grapes, get over it, etc. etc.

  147. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

    Davis Cojones,

There’s no way out of this economic mess without government intervention. We left it up to Wall Street during the Bush years, and look what happened. Just like the Great Depression, we need a New Deal. That was on the table last year in ‘08, and the American people chose Obama in a landslide. So much for your “anti American” nonsense. In today’s America, it’s right wing, supply side Wall Street apologists who are anti American.

  150. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Kush, what’s it matter to you rather or not I’m a Raider fan? I don’t have to prove anything to you so I won’t try to. I base my assumption that the Raiders will NOT be a top 3 running team on the past 7 seasons, not to mention the fact that Cable hardly put our first squad to the test in the run game last thursday, despite team shills insisting we were going to “emphasize the run” this year. There was no emphasis on the run with our first string last week, D Mac’s big play noted, which took place against Dallas’s second team. All we did was heave the ball downfield in coverage, and if it wasn’t for a PI penalty, our first string would have put up a goose egg.

  151. Raider-405 Says:

I AM SHOCKED nobody has made the comment on the person who laid Hanson out.

How are tax-cuts for 100% of America, not 95% like our current guy thinks is so great, a “rich tax cut”? Everybody got a cut, and the lowest bracket got the biggest percentage cut, from 15 to 10 (33% tax cut isn’t so bad).

    :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Yeah, I remember when we “socialized” the fire department and the post office and the country went to hell.

  156. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Raider 405, these fights are just stupid. We’re talking about a coach involved melee. Not cool. Again, imagine this happening to one of the good teams in the league. It would be a shock. This is not the ’70s. NFL teams have to be well organized operations today. In fact, even in the ’70s we didn’t have players cold cocking coaches. Players that have written about that era speak of an argument between John Madden and John Matuzsack during a practice that shocked everyone, because they’d never seen a player and a coach argue. Some of you guys have delusional views of what the Raiders are all about. The Raiders were a lot more organized in the good old days than people think. They were not just a bunch of party animals that screwed around during the week then just happened to win on Sunday. They were serious on the practice field. They considered practice as important as games. And showing up a coach in any way was unacceptable, just as it is today in Pittsburgh and Indy.

Bo, great points about the fire department and the post office. The post office is a public option, just like public health care would be. You can ship packages with a private company, or you can go with the government’s post office. It’s entirely up to you, and private parcel industries have done fine. It didn’t end them. A government option in an industry results in keeping the companies honest, not killing them. Oh, I guess it will kill companies that only survived by deceiving people and ripping them off. Good riddance.

I have to agree with MR on #150 too we got our butts kicked out there on that second drive.

Once Dallas recovered from having bad field position the first drive they ran the ball down our throat on that second drive. Sure Romo scored on a TD pass but they could have ran the ball in there easily. Exit Dallas starters after 7-3 first quarter domination.

If we cant stop the run we will not get to .500 or even close. The run D is still an issue and has not been addressed. It was ignored in the draft by our GM. Now what!!!!

  203. RaiderTW Says:

Neither Hanson nor the coach who threw the punch were identified in a Napa, Calif., police report taken Aug. 6 at Queen of the Valley Hospital. But one well-placed NFL source told FanHouse of the attacker: “It’s a well-known coach. Very well-known.”

Pressed to confirm the identity of the attacker, the source said, “It was Cable who hit him.”

“The victim didn’t even want any police action taken,” McGovern told FanHouse, “but we were following hospital policy that authorities be contacted in cases where there may have been an assault.”
Hanson previously served under former Raiders coach Lane Kiffin as an assistant defensive backs coach. The two clashed famously in Sept. 2008 when Hanson was suspended by Kiffin after the defensive assistant openly questioned the Raiders’ game plan following a 41-14 season-opening loss to the then-Mike Shanahan-coached Denver Broncos.

“It’s a good thing that Shanahan didn’t have our players,” Hanson reportedly blurted out in the presence of other coaches, “or else he would have beaten us 1,000-0.”

Kiffin suspended Hanson for five days, causing a rift among a divided Raiders coaching staff that caused owner Al Davis to intervene. By that time, Kiffin and former defensive coordinator Rob Ryan were openly battling over defensive philosophy. By Week 1 of the ‘08 season, Davis already was compiling a dossier to document reasons to dismiss Kiffin. The Hanson incident was one more page for the report.
Asked about the Hanson outburst, Kiffin said last September, “Randy had some personal issues going on. Randy still did some work for us, but he spent some time at home to get some things straight in his personal life.”

Raiders senior executive John Herrera told the National Football Post that Cable would address the latest Hanson controversy following the team’s practice on Sunday, but that did not happen.

The Raiders have a single 3:30 p.m. PT practice Monday, after which Cable is expected to answer questions about the alleged assault.
