NFP: Hanson hit by another coach

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, August 17th, 2009 at 12:29 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Randy Hanson was a virtually anonymous assistant coach until he was suspended for a week by Lane Kiffin.

Now Hanson is in the news again, with the National Football post reporting he was injured in an altercation with another coach and briefly hospitalized.

Kiffin claimed Hanson had medical issues, suspended him and wanted him fired. Al Davis instead backed Hanson. Kiffin was eventually fired “for cause.”

When Davis asked about Hanson the day Kiffin was fired, Davis said, “Yeah, he didn’t do anything. That’s another thing _(Kiffin) said he checked with the doctors. I called Bob Albo last night and he said they called me and they told me I had to give this kid an examination and he’s fine.”

Chances are Hanson will be a witness for Davis in his legal battle with Kiffin over pay.

More on this as it develops later when coach Tom Cable is available to the media following practice . . .

Why do you think the US has such a high Infant Mortality Rate, Or such a Low Life Expectancy, and why do 47 million Americans are without access to health care?

I love women a lot but I would punch Nancy Gay in the face she is probably man-ish she had to have been raped by an Al Davis impersonator as much as she hates him.

Either that or her ego is huge and the mere fact that Al Davis will not return her calls chaps her already red pimply old behind.

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO aw man 666 you are a cold piece of work

Neither Hanson nor the coach who threw the punch were identified in a Napa, Calif., police report taken Aug. 6 at Queen of the Valley Hospital. But one well-placed NFL source told FanHouse of the attacker: “It’s a well-known coach. Very well-known.”

Pressed to confirm the identity of the attacker, the source said, “It was Cable who hit him.”

“The victim didn’t even want any police action taken,” McGovern told FanHouse, “but we were following hospital policy that authorities be contacted in cases where there may have been an assault.”
Hanson previously served under former Raiders coach Lane Kiffin as an assistant defensive backs coach. The two clashed famously in Sept. 2008 when Hanson was suspended by Kiffin after the defensive assistant openly questioned the Raiders’ game plan following a 41-14 season-opening loss to the then-Mike Shanahan-coached Denver Broncos.

“It’s a good thing that Shanahan didn’t have our players,” Hanson reportedly blurted out in the presence of other coaches, “or else he would have beaten us 1,000-0.”

Kiffin suspended Hanson for five days, causing a rift among a divided Raiders coaching staff that caused owner Al Davis to intervene. By that time, Kiffin and former defensive coordinator Rob Ryan were openly battling over defensive philosophy. By Week 1 of the ’08 season, Davis already was compiling a dossier to document reasons to dismiss Kiffin. The Hanson incident was one more page for the report.
Asked about the Hanson outburst, Kiffin said last September, “Randy had some personal issues going on. Randy still did some work for us, but he spent some time at home to get some things straight in his personal life.”

Raiders senior executive John Herrera told the National Football Post that Cable would address the latest Hanson controversy following the team’s practice on Sunday, but that did not happen.

The Raiders have a single 3:30 p.m. PT practice Monday, after which Cable is expected to answer questions about the alleged assault.

The fight happened August 4th. This is August 17th. Did it affect the Raiders performance on August 13th against the Cowboys?

    …….

What Raiders’ performance against the Cowboys? When both teams were playing starters, all the Raiders salvaged was a PI penalty and a field goal. That game does nothing to refute a rumor of a fight.

Brien, what did Dallas do the second drive? Just picked our defense apart. Our first string defense. They already looked tired, and it was the first quarter.

Dakota, I asked you a question.

  • Brien the General

So MR the first stringers were completely dominated right? We couldn’t gain a first down and Russell was off target and sacked time and time again?

  • Chris in NY

Reports are saying it definitely was Cable who threw the punch.

Nothing against Hanson, don’t know anything about him, but I appreciate Tommy kickin it old-school Raider style with some insanity. I was afraid that while the team is getting better it might also be losing its classic Raiders persona.

Hopefully this doesn’t morph into an out-of-control distraction but gives the haters just enough firepower to overlook and write off this much-improved Raider team once again.

    Nmamdi,

Yes a business cycle. We had excessive growth from 2000-2006, maybe you noticed your house doubling in value and your 401K going up 50-75%. Now housing values are right where they were at in 2002 and the dow is about at where it was after 9/11. That would be called a cycle, my friend.

You do realize Dallas has an excellent oline, but did you forget about the 3 and out by the defense to start the game. Did you notice Nnamdi not out there on Dallas’ touchdown drive? Its funny because Dallas went primarily to the left side of the field where Nnamdi would have been playing. I’m quite confused here as to what you are talking about

  • http://none The Real MaddenRaider

Vegas Raider, FDR also understood government intervention was all that was necessary to end an economic crisis. Of course we’re not in a depression. But why not prevent us from getting there by reversing the very supply side ideology that got is into this mess to begin with? Obama inherited this economy, Vegas. Do you remember a robust economy on January 19th?

  • http://none The Real MaddenRaider

Brien, what good is a 3 and out if on the next drive Romo slices us apart? If this were a real game, by quarters end, Dallas is up 7-3, with a full head of steam, knowing our defense is already tired. Oh, and they would not be putting their second team on the field for D Mac to light up.

  • http://none The Real MaddenRaider

Lynn, do you ever want to see the Raiders win again, in your lifetime? Point to a good team in the league that has these stupid problems that we do, like coaches getting into fist fights.

  • priesttj

This is a crazy story. I thought they left this sort of thing up to the players. But I guess coaches get a little antsy too. I want to see how we play vs SF since the Cowboy’s in some minds weren’t a worthy opponent.

I guess we reduced the Cowboy’s to the Detroit Lions. I was of the mind that the Cowboy’s had a top7 defense and was great vs the run.

We outplay them and all of a sudden they’re garbage, very interesting.

  • http://none The Real MaddenRaider

Brien, you have officially lost it. Fist fights between coaches on NFL teams happens every day? Somebody put some crack in your purple leaves this morning, guy.

That wouldbe called a bull sh it inflationary bubble my friend based on false numbers and lies.

The Bush regime came in and rolled back regulations that protected us for 40 years like the repeal of anti trust laws that allowed monoliths like GE and Newscorp to take over 90%+ of all our media and perpetuate the lie that everything was all right.

The roll back allowed companies to hire Gordon Gecko types to maximize profit with out regard to safety, health or long term consequences. It was a fire sale and they robbed us blind.

Get a clue gawd dam bit and stop defending the Na-zis!

Was Nnamdi out there on that TD drive? And why are you avoiding the fact that Dallas plays all went to that side when he was out of the game. Routt is a nickel back and was getting picked on that drive and you know they wouldnt have kept trying Nnamdi like that, so I dont get what you are saying here. you mention first teamers and such but ignore the fact that the best CB in the world wasnt in the game. Not saying it to that extent MR. What I’m saying is these types of things have had to happen before. Why wouldnt it? You have lost it ifyou think an altercation has never happened physically between two coaches in the NFL.

  • http://none The Real MaddenRaider

Vegas Raider, the economy overall improved from ’00 to ’06? What are you basing this on? Was the economy, overall, as good at any point in the Bush years as it was in the last few years of Clinton’s term? You make it sound like Bush saved the world, then the Democrats ruined it. I know you’re supposedly an independent or whatever but even Sean Hannity couldn’t make a case for Bush that you just did. Economy getting better from the end of Clinton’s presidency up till ’06? Funniest joke of the day.

OK, Brien, now they just happen from time to time…LOL. Alright. Be careful not to fall as you back pedal…

Anyhow, they do not happen on good teams. That’s my point. You never hear about these squabbles in NY (Giants), Pittsurgh, New England, Indy, et al. We’ve sucked for 6 years. We’re supposed to be a new and improved team. Already, we’ve got coaches duking it out. Same old Raiders.

and that’s really all it’s about with republicans…

has been for some time… there is no Democrat that is worthy of the office of President… and so let the smearing begin…

if i were still a republican, i would be embarrassed…

no nation building… unless it’s us doing it???

no deficit spending… unless it’s us doing it???

no welfare for the poor… but let’s have welfare for the corporations (well, certainly the ones that donate to us)…

no war without a plan for ending it… unless it’s us that’s doing it…

no major social programs… unless we figure we can buy a few million votes with a prescription drug debacle…
