Cable only talking about Raiders-49ers

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, August 21st, 2009 at 3:35 pm in Oakland Raiders.

A few news and notes from Friday’s walkthrough as the Raiders prepare to face the 49ers Saturday night:

– Coach Tom Cable declined comment regarding the news that the Napa Police Department has reopened the investigation of the alleged assault of a Raiders assistant coach by another member of the staff. Numerous reports have named Randy Hanson as the injured coach and Cable as the alleged attacker.

Cable said Thursday the club was handling the matter internally and that when the facts were known, “Everything will be fine.”

Hanson has not gone on record, nor has his reported attorney, John McGuinn, who could not be reached for comment.

The investigation means the Napa Police Department will be interviewing potential witnesses and form a matter of record from which the NFL can use as a starting point for its own investigation for potential discipline.

– Darren McFadden will start against the 49ers at running back, which means Michael Bush will get his chance against New Orleans. Cable said Thursday each of three running backs would get a start.

– If Ricky Brown has overtaken either Kirk Morrison at middle linebacker or Jon Alston at strong side linebacker, you won’t be able to notice it by Saturday night’s starters. Thomas Howard will open on the weak side, Morrison in the middle, and Alston on the strong side.

– Rookie defensive end Matt Shaungnessy, who has missed the last three days of practice with a foot sprain, will not face the 49ers.

– Cornell Green left practice Wednesday after being poked in the right eye and did not practice Thursday, but will be able to start against San Francisco.

– Louis Murphy is looking forward to getting his first start alongside fellow rookie Darrius Heyward-Bey.

“Hey, we gotta step up. We gotta play,” Murphy said. “We gotta come out and we gotta play to the best of our ability. It’s a sharp learning curve. You have to really pick up on the playbook and pick up on the coverages, and just go out and just do what you know.”

Murphy seemed unfazed by the talk that it was his trash-talking that got the 49ers fired up for their goal line dismantling of the Raiders passing game Wednesday morning.

“That doesn’t change my approach, man,” Murphy said. “And I’m sorry if I stepped on any toes, man, but I’m just trying to fit in this league. And it that’s by keeping my mouth closed a little longer, that’s what it is. But I’m just happy to be here, man. I’m ready to go to work.”

Russell will be part of the last cuts,..and NO TEAM will claim him, not even for practice aquad.

chefs D looked pretty good last night

  • jhill

I thought you said you saw him at the game last week, and he wasn’t fat?

  • http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/oo249/the408RAIDER/749px-I-420svg.png 408RAIDER

    testing..

  • Norco Bob

Start Gacia, and play Garcia 3 quarters next week. Phase out russell…was a terrible pick, cut your losses now, dont waste another year.

  • jhill

26 wonderlic score, Hackett saying how well he knows he playbook, scenarios, and audibles. Stupid?

I thought it was his accuracy and laid back demeanor?

  • Norco Bob

Stupid yes,..Al was stupid for drafting him, and more stupid for playing him. The smart move is to cut him. We all know that.

  • Norco Bob

After watching Russell tonight embarrass himself on the field, you all will finally agree with me.

  • Norco Bob

Tonight will be laughable,..you think he looked terrible in practice?…watch how he looks tonight,..he will look like a guy thats never played football. Then will be cut.

  • Norco Bob

Let Garcia play all year and groom Frye.

  • jhill

As soon as Russell starts emabarrassing the Raiders on the field, I will be right there with you to sit his arse down. Thing is, it hasn’t happened yet. Let talk about the players who are in fact embarrassing themselves, and who’s going to replace them.

    Carlisle
    Trevor Scott
    Kirk Morrison

so whats up with the pre game fix???

  • Norco Bob

Well as you all know I go to every game, maybe from your couches Russell looks ok,..but in person, hes just plain awful.

  • Norco Bob

I see Russell on the sidelines, when losing big, all happy, laughing,…not looking mad like he should,…the fact is Russell isnt bothered by losing,…Gannon when beind would be storming the sidelines yelling at players to get their asses together and stop screwing around,..Russell sucks.

  • Thec07

    Its not even 10 yet…..

  • jhill

Lol at your signature I go to the game take. When all else fails, well at least you do go to every game.

I’ll admit that I wish I could go to every game. You do have me on that one.

But I think that I have a better view of Russell with replay, slow motion, and all that other stuff at home, with the remote, the day after the game.

Like right now, we can replay the game, and you can point out where you think he made a stupid decision, looks fat, or displays no QB talent. Is there a particular play you recall from being at the game that I should look at?

How did Carlisle look in person during those penalties?

Did it look as bad in person as it did on TV when Scott was getting pancaked by Witten?

How about Morrison getting bounced around? How’d that look up close?

Clements and Bly are probably 5′ 10′ each and Murphy and DHB are both 6′2″ with 40 inch verticles in open field it’s very different than redzone. So we’ll see…….
    ———————————————-

Here goes Priest again with his ridiculous logic again….

Priest let me ask you a question….

Do you think Nate Clements was handed, at the time, the richest contract for a defensive player in the history of the sport because he couldn’t cover 6’2 receivers with 40+ verticals?

    NEWS FLASH FOR PREIST TJ!!

THERE HAVE BEEN RECEIVERS FOR THE PAST 8 YEARS IN THE NFL THAT WERE 6’2 AND HAD 40+ VERTICALS THAT CLEMENTS AND BLY HAVE COVERED DAY IN AND DAY OUT….

  • Norco Bob

jhill, until you go to every game like I do, your opinion really doesnt matter,..sorry…what you dont see on tv is what tells the story,..and by the way we get replays on both jumbo trons., not to mention tv`s everywhere.

    hahahahaaa I heard that..

  • Thec07

408, what up Bro, or should i call you ” San Jose dude???

  • jhill

I wouldn’t have been that harsh Teabag, but I agree with your take.

It’s going to be interesting to see what type of defense SF plays against us. Will they play man or zone? If they play zone, the young guys have a better chance.

  • exlaraiderseasonticketholder

    jhill,
I had Norco Bob’s view for 10 yrs in L.A. and the first 3 in Oakland. I enjoyed the comraderie and electicity of being there live but for a view and evaluation of plays, unless you are in a suite with a T.V., you can definately evaluate the players and plays better from the comfort of my sofa. lol

  • Norco Bob

exla, you and I both know you are wrong, but thats ok, anyone whos ever lived in L.A. for any period of time is stupid.

I’m looking forward to seeing Jamarcus’ mo-hawk.

  • jhill

For you to be at every game, it should be pretty easy for you to communicate what the problem is. Not as fiery as Gannon? Is that why we should cut him?

Ignore the production on the field? Really?

  • Norco Bob

Oh hey you will tonight,..he will be the guy on the sidelines smiling, laughing, after leaving game down by a couple td`s.

  • exlaraiderseasonticketholder

Didn’t get personal with you, just stated the facts. Plus the cost of my adult beveragers are a lot less than in the stadium. LMAO

  • exlaraiderseasonticketholder

And I don’t have to worry about you spilling them on me.

  • Norco Bob

I never buy alcohol in any stadium.

  • jhill

    I agree Ex,

I’ve been to my share of NFL, College, MLB, and NBA games. I envy Bob for being able to go to all the games. But for the view and player analysis? I probably miss 1/3 of the game for various reasons when I’m there.

  • Norco Bob

    Thats for suckers…(L.A. people)

  • Norco Bob

Im not sure who would envy me or any fan for viewing raider games in person,..but we pretty much only go nowadays to tailgate.

  • Norco Bob

The entire day is great,..but the time from like 1:00 to 4:00 is really a drag, the worst part of the day.

  • exlaraiderseasonticketholder

I lived in SoCal just as you did with a moniker like Norco. Isn’t that near Riverside as I recall. Fellow SUCKER!

  • exlaraiderseasonticketholder

I havn’t lived there for 14 yrs Sucker Norco Bob.

  • Norco Bob

Is there a city called Norco?…lol…Iv never heard of it…you must be new to think that means a city to me.

  • Norco Bob

Ask your friends in here why Im Norco Bob,..dang exla you are stupid.

  • http://blstb.msn.com/i/55/90A2853B6CFBCC2AFC987BB18B832.jpg vegas raider

I mooched off my uncles extra-season ticket from 99-03 and there is nothing like being at the game…..for a win.

If I’m going to watch a game like the Falcons or Broncos games last year, I would much rather be on my couch.

  • exlaraiderseasonticketholder

Of course, there is a jail at Norco.

  • exlaraiderseasonticketholder

Just messin with you NB. Go pop a couple more pills. LOL

  • Norco Bob

Well if theres a crap town down there called norco Im sure youve been there,..but I never got to so-cal, for anything…and never have heard of some ghetto town called norco,..(all of so-cal is a ghetto.)

  • Norco Bob

Well I must leave all you “fans”,..anjoy the game tonight on your sofas,..I will be at the stick,…watching in person russell looking awful,..but Garcia will save the day!!!

  • exlaraiderseasonticketholder

You leaving for Mexico tomorrow Norco Bob. I hear they decriminalized drugs for personal use. lol

  • http://blstb.msn.com/i/55/90A2853B6CFBCC2AFC987BB18B832.jpg vegas raider

Garcia is going to pull his calf muscle.

He might be the one cut Bob, and it would take him a few weeks to re-locate I bet. If this guy is so good, how did he end up here? Surely he would like to be in a better place to make one last run at a ring. You telling me Al Davis was the only smart GM to land this guy, or Garcia choose the Raiders amongst his many suitors. Get real.

  • Teabag

And yes, I was harsh with Priest.

I have a pet peeve for the blind optimists.

I wish for the best from the Raider team as well. But I am not going to subscribe to any train of thought that even remotely suggests that DHB and Louis Murphy are going to come in an have their way with a veteran and extremely proven cb duo of Clements/Bly.

  • Thec07

I will go on record DHB, and Murphy will have good games…..

A lot of this will depend on No. 2…….

  • Thec07

Cable said these are the best to WR’s baring the injuries to walker and Chaz…..

Cable riding with them weather they be rooks or not…

This will be 3 teams in 3 years for bly, why is that?
He got jettisone from the donkeys last year. I am
not buying his ability, JRUSS shows up, its lights out.

  • Teabag

I’m not sippin’ any of that Kool Aid… Clements and Bly jumped routes all day because Russell still hasn’t learned to look off and sell the fake. I expect more of the same.

  • kidseven

Do any of you criminal types know how I can view today’s game on the web? I’m up in Washington and would love to see it. Seems like last season someone posted a back-channel, nefarious, black box way to watch a game.

  • Thec07

I am not sure you can gage situational drills to game time. From what i understand in the situational drills their was no threat of running just passing.

If in fact the rooks dont play up to my kool-aid sippin expectations i will come back on the blog and admit my opinions were wrong. But thats the great thing with opinions thats all they are, as i do not make my living with the Raiders org…..
