Third quarter: Saints 38, Raiders 0

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, August 29th, 2009 at 3:41 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Score

NO_P.J. Hill 11-yard run (Garrett Hartley kicks PAT), 4:40

Notes:

– Quarterback Jeff Garcia completed a 30-yard pass to Louis Murphy to the Saints 20, but the Raiders hurt themselves with another penalty as Paul McQuistan’s hold pushed the ball back to the 26 on second-and-16.

The quarter ended with Garcia taking a big hit on a scramble to the 22, bringing up third-and-12.

– Garcia comes in with 4:40 left in the quarter. Dwindling fan base cheers, as if JaMarcus Russell was somehow for responsible for a Johnnie Lee Higgins drop and a Louis Murphy fumble.

– Oakland’s first-team defense continued to get shredded by New Orleans reserves, with Hill finishing off a 64-yard drive in 11 plays with Hill’s 11-yard run

The drive put the Saints at 404 yards of total offense with 4:40 left in the third quarter.

– Russell let down for the second consecutive series, hitting Murphy for a 56-yard gain, only to have the rookie fumble when he is stripped on the way down by Pierson Prioleau.

– Russell opened the second half for the Raiders, stuck a third-and-12 throw to Johnnie Lee Higgins which would have put the Raiders at the New Orleans 35, and Higgins dropped it, forcing a punt.

  3. IndianaRaider Says:

Murphy and Watkins in at WR with Rankin at RB. I guess Bush is in the doghouse or something and DHB don’t need the time on the field. Good to see Walker make one single play today. Such a waste of money.

  4. Thec07 Says:

    WOW… What happened to MBUSH?

  5. RKraider Says:

can you put money on the raiders going 0-16? i bet the odds would be even on that.

  6. armond Says:

russell played well but murphy and higgins f-d him over bigtime with drops and a fumble. we have enough weapons but the damn defense wont get off the field. last week they made dmc a non factor and 2day its like bush didnt get to play much becuz of them.i hope mario realizes stuffin your face with all that nasty azz fast food the day before gametime will fook u up bigtime. also can we get dhb more involved? no screens to get this guy loose whatsoever.

  7. Raider75 Says:

The Raiders look like the Indians in Major League the movie. I hear Bob Uecker every time I watch them play.

  8. Thec07 Says:

This team looks like a bunch of quitters….

  9. armond Says:

as bad as it is lets stop overreacting. this is horrible but they wont be this bad everygame. bush was non factor cuz that weak ass d couldnt get off the field. it was dmc turn to get in the game. hell dmc didnt get to do much cuz the offense wasnt on the field enuff. the d is worse than last year but offensively we will be better.

  41. IndianaRaider Says:

  43. Raider75 Says:

Cable is gonna break someone’s jaw over this one.

  44. Thec07 Says:

    Straight out quitters…..

We passed up some good LB’s, and DT’s this year…

We could have had Raji, and Brace….. Shoot Rey was on the board in the secon RD also……

  45. stv Says:

I think the local high school team would have put up a better fight.
Hey hawkins gave a shot first one today

  46. Bishop916 Says:

I AM NOT POSTING TOO QUICKLY WTF!

  47. sierrabeachbum Says:

Nice game, nice blog system, nice announcers,.
    I need a drink!

  49. Thec07 Says:

USC would give this team fits…. Glad its only presea we have to bounce back from this loss….

Cable has 2 weeks to fix this not sure we have enough time….

  50. armond Says:

thec i wasnt saying u were just in general. this was humiliating no doubt. but there are people already jumping ship on the season. i understand why but u cant just yet. NO did the same thing to us last year and the pats did 2. we dont matchup well against a spread type team. the saints are very talented and well coached. defensively we suck cuz we have no real playmakers outside of 21 who gets avoided most of the game. teams r going to give up yards to the saints but the key is pressure and to’s which we dont get enuff of.

  51. stv Says:

    new year same story WTF

  52. sierrabeachbum Says:

whose jumping ship…we’re being tossed overboard!

  53. El Dirty Says:

I go the bathroom and we score a touchdown wtf!

  54. Thec07 Says:

    Armond, I feel you Bro……

  55. stv Says:

OUR DEFENSE WOULD DO BETTER AT TOUCH FOOTBALL

  56. armond Says:

we shot ourselves in the foot with drops and fumbles. that was the only way to stay in this game. the run blocking isnt as sharp as it needs to be. that wasnt a fumble by dmc either. his knee was down before that ball came out so that hurt. on 1 bright note dhb catches it when we get him the ball and russell looks much better.he only had a couple of bad throws but too many drops. we gotta help that guy.

  57. El Dirty Says:

I was screaming RAJI from JAIL! THEN WHEN I FOUND OUT REY FELL TO 2nd ROUND I STOPPED BEATING MY BUNKIE FOR THE DHB PICK AND SCREAMED FOR REY! I HAVE NO COACHING EXPERIENCE BESIDES COACHING MY SONS FOOTBALL TEAM AND I KNEW THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WE NEED TO DRAFT! EVEN AN OT IN THE FIRST ROUND WOULD HAVE BEEN A GODSEND!

whose jumping ship…we’re being tossed overboard!

funny youre right but u gottas climb back up until they throw u back over!!! maybe we should just take oevr the ship cuz it couldnt be much worse.

  59. armond Says:

dirty rey was taken 2 spots before we picked. im sure we wouldve taken him if he was still there. its funny cuz we traded back after cicny grabbed him.
