Did post-camp discipline elude Raiders?
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, August 30th, 2009 at 7:00 pm in Oakland Raiders.
News and notes from Sunday’s conference call with Raiders coach Tom Cable a day after a 45-7 loss to the New Orleans Saints:
– In the aftermath of Saturday’s disaster, veteran defensive end Greg Ellis openly wondered if his teammates were taking their profession seriously enough as in getting the proper rest and being physically and mentally prepared to play a game.
“Guys, you can’t stay out all night. Can’t expect to come in here and just turn it on,” Ellis said. “This isn’t high school or college football. This is the best of the best in the NFL. So you’ve got to do the small things that maybe you didn’t have to do in college.”
Cable said he wasn’t aware of any raging Friday night parties that included his players, but conceded he didn’t know there weren’t any, either.
“The one thing as a coach that you’re always leery of is breaking camp because then they get home, they don’t have curfew, don’t have those kinds of things, and so as grown men we’ve got to handle those distractions, and to take care of our bodies and stay focused on what we’re trying to do,” Cable said.
– Probably unfair to single out Mario Henderson, but on his Twitter page in recent days he detailed a Burger King binge that astute readers figured out totaled more than 6,400 calories, and in a recent tweet said he ate an entire box of Frosted Flakes the morning of the Saints game. All after being serious about his diet for six months in preparing to become the team’s left tackle.
– Cable wasn’t calling the Saints game a setback, but it sure wasn’t a step in the right direction, either.
“We’re looking at the film hard, obviously,” Cable said. “We just reverted to a lot of old bad habits in a couple of areas. So (we) just have to think that through and make some good decisions here in the next 24 hours as to the right approach for this week.”
At the end of last season, in the afterglow of two surprising wins to close the season, Cable spoke of working to change the losing culture of the locker room and said, “I thought it was a mouse when I took over but it really was an elephant.”
Cable sounded surprised that Dumbo has returned.
“The only good thing here is it didn’t count against us, but there’s much to learn from it and you’ve got to make that a good thing,” Cable said. “We were making progress in a number of areas, and to revert back, I think everyone’s going to take notice of that . . . it’s a tough lesson. It’s ridiculous to have to go through it, but we did. So now we’ve got to approach it, `This is what it is, there ain’t no getting around this. And we’re going to go from here in terms of staying the course and keeping up with the investment that we’ve put forth.”
– Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, after catching an opening slant for 12 yards, had two other passes thrown his way and no receptions despite playing well into the third quarter. Cable said it is because the Saints were leaning toward him in coverage, something he anticipates will happen with every team on the schedule.”
– Whatever the Raiders’ problems were on defense, Cable said they didn’t include Tommy Kelly.
“It would not be fair for anyone to really question or devalue what he’s done the last two weeks,” Cable said. “They’re really not able to run to his side if you look at it.”
– Cable was non-committal regarding the future of Terdell Sands while talking up the weekly improvement of Desmond Bryant, the undrafted free agent out of Harvard.
“He continues to do it. He continues to get better. He’s moving to the football, had one sack, missed another one,” Cable said. “He’s got the big body, he’s got the want-to, and he’s allowing his coach to take him where he’s trying to go.”
Cable was asked if it was the end of the line for Sands as a Raider.
“I don’t know that yet. It’s too early for all that,” Cable said. “It’s just where we were at in terms of rotation. We didn’t expect to play the first group as long as we did in the second half. Butwe had to, and bsaed on the rotation and the way it all worked out, (we) just ran out of time.”
– According to a year-old salary roster, Sands is due a $1.3 million salary this year and was scheduled to receive a $1.9 million roster bonus which he may have already been paid. The Raiders don’t get that back.
– If Jonathan Holland’s 43-yard touchdown reception wowed Cable, he was keeping his enthusiasm under wraps.
“There’s a lot of competition and he was fortunate to make a guy miss there,” Cable said. “That’s what you expect your receivers to do.”
– No word yet regarding Saturday’s new injuries, including a “chip fracture” to the left wrist of Nnamdi Asomugha and a stinger sustained by safety Rashad Baker. Javon Walker received limited play because Cable said they wanted to ease him back in.”
– A pretty shaky performance from the offensive line overall, with the Raiders continuing to get calls for illegal formations and false starts.
“The illegal formations, we have had that issue through all three games where the tackle has not been far enough up on the line of scrimmage and it’s ben addressed and it will continue to be addressed,” Cable said. “The false starts, that’s just a lack of focus of focus.”
Offensive lineman, Cornell Green in particular, have been nailed for illegal formations while trying to create extra space to deal with a speed rusher on a passing down.
– The Raiders have just two practices before a Wednesday walkthrough and leaving for Seattle, where they play Thursday night. The first roster cut down to 75 is Tuesday and some players could be released Monday.

Repost:
The offense will be dynamic – hiccups here and there – but you’ve seen glimpses of what they will become. In each preseason game for moments or drives they really looked unstoppable.
The defense on the other hand has looked suspect in every preseason game. That’s what you should also expect heading into the season.
There will be no major changes to the defensive line. Its too late – 2 weeks before the opener. Any major changes to the line will have to wait until next year. The highest probability for change is JRich replacing TScott at 1st, 2nd down RDE. And I don’t see that happening anytime soon simply because they still haven’t done it despite Scott’s poor performance.
Regarding the LBs: I would expect Brown to replace Alston who has been just as bad if not worse than TScott. This will happen before the season starts.
To start the season this is what you will see:
LBs: Brown/Morrison/Howard
DLs: Scott/Warren/Kelly/Ellis

No did any damn guts and brain cells elude the Raider front office when they refused to get a real run stuffing DT to help Kelly or a real MLB who will demand his LBs beat tackling machines? That is what is real dammit!

Bob this shit is garbage man
August 30th, 2009 at 7:14 pm
Good for Ellis to point out the garbage to the team and say THIS is why you stunk. A vet is needed to do these things and show these young guys (and not so young but were ‘born’ into it).
Now question is will they listen?
August 30th, 2009 at 7:17 pm
Dammit why wont Russell be a leader? I wasnt a huge Gannon fan but dammit that guy got in folk’s faces and demanded better play. Trust me the whole team will take notice if he steps up but he doesnt seem to want to. I bet Kell will come here defending him time and time again. You idiots look at stats too fukin much. Are you accountants or something? His decision making is still slow and his accuracy is erratic. Jerry Mac is a hater but dammit he wasnt lying about the guy’s accuracy. Russell better step up. All the damn excuses are tiring. This is the NFL and you gotta succeed no matter what obstacle is in front of you. Chaz Schilens will come back when he is healed, but until then Russell better find a new damn WR friend or that SD game can get ugly like this game did!
August 30th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
I hear ya bud,…poor ol unhappy bitterman Kell was sad to hear we had a great tailgate.
August 30th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
Terp, nope because some will go out tonight and not give a damn. With all the good drugs and fine ass women in the Bay Area many just dont give a damn about being great
August 30th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
Cable should focus on Ellis’ words, come out and set the expectations for every man in that locker room. Speak to them directly. If he hears about xyz going on & they come and stink up the field …you’re fired!
August 30th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
Kell is kell. I’ll just leave it at that. The guy does know football but has a huge vendetta against Al but makes excuses for Russell. I dont get it. Al deserves some flack but Russell does too
August 30th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Terp he cant and he wont because Al Davis will overrule it. Plain and simple Cable can only do so much given that he isnt the smartest guy in the world

What’s real is you stupidly ran your mouth off regarding the Raiders, where I exposed you as being a moron.
Honestly, do you feel as stupid as you look?
That was butt ugly, little man.
Almost as ugly as me torching your sorryass on the other thread regarding Walsh.
Now get back to crying and whining about that porous O line, that absolute joke of a d line, the nonexistant receiving corp, and Russell waddling around like a beached whale.

August 30th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
That would never happen in the Raider lockeroom! Theres to much team pride and discipline.
August 30th, 2009 at 7:48 pm

Narcotics Bob,
Yeah, the Raiders do demand too much of my time. Yes, I’m always miserable when the Raiders lose. But I go back to 64′. I’m semi retired, traveled the world, own several pieces of Real Estate.
You, on the other hand, are a young man who spends all day/night on this blog and listening to Gary Radnich on the Radio. I think you need to go out and accomplish something.
But whatever NFL Players say the Oakland Raiders are the worst Organization in the NFL. Not me, NFL Players say the Oakland Raiders are the worst Organization in the NFL. Got it dummy?

August 30th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
I tried to contact Mike Lombardi when he was with the Raiders to trade Moss to Tennessee for Albert HansWorth. The timing was great for the Raiders he just kicked the Cowboy player in the head his stock was low. I don’t know if they ever pursued it but if your the Raiders they should have asked. I don’t know about Stanford Routt he is not that good and it really shows. The player the Raiders never even sniffed at was Tank Johnson I know he has a bad rap but this run defense is like a sieve its going to be a major problem all year and I think he would have helped us. The one thing the Raiders have going for them is The other teams in the division Josh McDaniel’s is just pouring gasoline all over the Broncos team. Lets not forget Norv Turner coaches the Bolts. Norco Bob Denver looks allot better than Oakland that dink and dunk crap they are running isn’t going to get it done in this league. Hey Matt Cassell holds the ball like no other QB he will not last the season remember where you heard it. I think the back up in KC Tigpen is a better QB and keeps me up at night with what he can do with his legs. The one thing you need in this league to get better is time. The Raiders are not an old team they have allot of young players that I think you would agree look like they can play. Where the second best team in the Division I am pretty certain of that. We have the most up side in the division I am positive on that. Narco you need to get you eyes checked because you don’t see well, The Raiders have the edge on Denver and KC Denver now has Orton and not Cutler and Brandon Marshall is melting done. What planet did you live on before you came to earth and started watching the N.F.L

LOL this post is funny tho. According to BHP, who I do admire but disagree with from time to time, we dont try to employ a true NT and always have played a one gap system with the DTs. I cant see that because Terdell Sands was starting not too long ago and he isnt a 1-gap player. Hell even in the super bowl year Sam Adams couldnt have been playing 1 gap. No way it works
August 30th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Denver isnt better than the Raiders at all. That team is in worse shape than we are………which is sad.
Russell’s fat ass can change that if he would call his teammates out

How is Denver better than the Raiders? That team is past awful. They get rid of their QB and the WR doesnt want to play ball. You are a certified idiot. They dont have the personnel to run the 3-4 defense and the o-line isnt as good as it use to be. Dont worry Dudette, I have to go now but we can resume this ass whipping later…………

August 30th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
Dude Says, Read what I was saying the Raiders are a better team than the Broncos or KC. We have more upside and are better situated for a resurgence with the youth we have. Kyle Orton is not going to do it for the Broncos Brandon Marshall is telling you that much, do you believe me or him we both seam to say the same thing. The Raiders have problems an average Joe like your self can see that. I am not as down after the Saints game as one would seem to be. If you paid close attention there where some things the Riders where able to do on offense we have not done all last season. The youth will need some time but talent is in Oakland this team is #2 in the division that means the Bolts are better then the Raiders the Denver the KC so lets review for slow “Dude Says” what I see #1. San Diego #2 Oakland #3 Denver #4 KC. If you have anymore questions you will have to stay after class. Boston MA

August 30th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
The Raiders are what they are:
1. Russell is getting better as far as play. See what happens with real coaching. Al Davis doesn’t value coaches enough. Contributing to the B.S we’ve seen the last few years. Question, does Russell have the demeanor to be the in your face, ready to punch a teammate in the face attitude that this undisciplined slothful team needs in its leader.
2. THe run defense is garbage. Al Davis, and many of you on this blog, overrate middling talent all the time. Gerard Warren is no NT. The RDE is a huge question mark…and this team is just undersized as a whole. You can’t win if you can’t stop the run. All that technique and learning b.s is just that…b.s. Talent wins games and Al Davis doesn’t believe in investing talent at those positions.
Greg Ellis – 34 yr old free agent
Tommy Kelly – Undrafted free agent
Gerard Warren – 1st round bust that is on his 3rd team
Trevor Scott – 6th round pick
Ricky Brown – Undrafted free agent
Kirk Morrison – 3rd round pick
Thomas Howard – 2nd round pick
Out of all those starters….only Howard was a 1st day pick. The RAiders don’t excel at coaching and have a scheme that is light on strategy and more on individuals winning their battles. The run defense will continue to struggle and the pass defense won’t fare much better because of the lack of pressure.
John Marshall has his hands full.
3. Justin Fargas is the number 2 back because Tom Cable cares more about feelings than production.
4. Darrius Heyward-Bey is a huge disappointment so far. Receivers are paid to get open and catch the ball. This guy has two catches in three preseason games. You don’t draft a kid #7 overall to be a decoy.
5. Where’s Mike Mitchell?
6. Oh, what good are elite corners when the QB has 10 seconds or more to throw.
7. Satele is not looking good. Grove is getting rave reviews. Satele is shaping up as another middling talent that the RAiders are overhyping.
8. Is Carlisle going to have a huge drop off in his production
9. Why is Cornell Green still starting.
Still have a couple of weeks for players to step it up…just like Cable basically said himself. So you have to stay positive because its a new season and no real games have been played yet.
But damn! Show some heart!
August 30th, 2009 at 8:47 pm

the saints game felt like last years saints, ravens, patriots, kc, etc games. out-manned, out-coached and out-hussled. lost in every aspect of the game
August 30th, 2009 at 8:52 pm
Positions that need upgrades or replacement:
NT – Gerard Warren is a rotation guy at best and is penetrator not a run stuffer
RDE – Can we get an everydown player for this position…
MLB – Gotta play downhill, gotta make the tackle, gotta fill the gaps
SLB – Haven’t had one in years
FS – Huff, Eugene wouldn’t start on any team in the league. The only redeaming value, making TD saving tackles several times a game. What does that tell you?
RT – Green costs the team more points with his penalties. Then Russell takes the blame
RG – Carlisle is getting older and his play dropped off steeply last year
C – Satele is turning into another middling talent
WR – ???? D-HB has some work to do
August 30th, 2009 at 8:55 pm

who is the safety that is #31? i can’t find anybody at that # on the roster at raider.com. he played two-hand touch instead of knocking saint out at two yard line letting a mere walk in to end zone.
August 30th, 2009 at 9:00 pm
The key to playing the Chargers is we have to run at Merrimen and when we pass run away from him. Move JMR way from him more roll outs. They are going to have to play deep with the safeties and corners. That defense is not the steel Curtain we should be able to run enough on them. The key is make them cover the wide receivers and us DMAC and Zack Miller they have no answer for them. We need turnovers and we cant have the penalties we have been known for. Rivers can play down to us and has his moments. The key is the first quarter they cant score on the opening drive it will kill us if that happens.
August 30th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
John Marshall you declared your defense the fastest bunch you’ve ever been around. Too bad this isn’t a track meet. Tell your boss to start picking football players and not athletes.
August 30th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
The one thing that really stands out to me about that game, was the fact that we used a lot of zone coverages. A team should not play a lot of zone against an accurate qb like brees. The last time I saw this much zone from the Raiders, it was against denver on opening night last year, with the same result.
August 30th, 2009 at 9:03 pm

I am perplexed as to why Bush is so disregarded.
And DHB is being outperformed by Louis Murphy.
This decoy stuff is B.S! Draft someone in the 3rd or 4th round to be a decoy. Good receivers get open and catch the ball. DHB has a lot of work to do…especially as a #7 overall receiver taken.
As an aside Kell, the DHB vs. Murphy is exactly why I did not want the Raiders to take a receiver with the 1st round pick. Receivers are found throughout the draft.
Now a good D-Lineman or a stud linebacker or offensive tackle???????

who is the safety that is #31? i can’t find anybody at that # on the roster at raider.com. he played two-hand touch instead of knocking saint out at two yard line letting a mere walk in to end zone.

Hiram Eugene… I dont blame him either for being completely uninterested at that point.. We were already down by 38 or something.

KK, dumb doesn’t even explain that last comment.
Brien, we play a 1-gap sytem now, I have explained many times that we’ve played 2-gap even as late as when Chester was here. So I’m not sure where your comment about me saying we never play 2-gap is coming from. There are fronts that we present that call for a 2-gap responsibility when we get in the 3/4 front and stand T Scott up for mismatch along the line.
As far as Russell is concerned your attacks on this young player lack understanding IMO. But hey everybodies entitled. Russell’s development is coming along great even the haters are forced to admit it. He’scommanding respect the right way with his play once they know he’s capable of delivering they’ll follow him.
I can understand your passion but sometimes it’s very misguided and judgmental. You have no clue what it takes to play QB at this level, but Russell is living. Being in stands doesn’t qualify you or me to say what he should be doing. The coaches ae exstatic so he must be doing something right. Playing the blame game because your pissed about the score of a exhibition is what fans do. It’s your right but it doesn’t make you right.
I said it before cable that the Raiders should just stay the coutrse and they’ll be fine and I still feel that way, especially Russell who’s systematically shutting the mouths of all the haters.
By years end he will be the unquestioned leader of this team……………period

After 6 playoff appearances in the last 20yrs.
After 6 straight seasons of double-digit losing.
2 consecutive games of giving up 200+yds on the ground.
I find your excuse making detestable. The Losing culture you Al Davis cultist thrive in is waaaay more dominate than ANY Player could overcome.

SnB, show me another Dlineman better at this point than Dez Bryant? A rookie FA. I’m just curious since you’re the great GM.
Show me a better second year WR than Chaz Shilens. Why is Tommy Kelly regarded by his coaches as a great talent eventhough he was a rookie FA.
I’ll tell you what let’s you and I play some keyboard GM. I’ll take Dez Bryant and you can take your boy BJ Raji. Let’s see who has a better year OK

Haha bout to leave the house but someone called me and just said BHP made a comment directed towards me lol
BHP you are a great Raider and I admire your knowledge but to say the last time we played 2-gap was in 1997 is beyond crazy! What the hell was the point in having Grady Jackson,Sam adams and even Terdell Sands starting where Gerard Warren is starting now?
Mismatch by Scott? What are you talking about? Yeah I see them run something like a 3-4 when he drops back to pass coverage but to say he causes a mismatch is crazy. The mismatch is him starting as of right now. I am an advocate for Scott but man it isnt looking good for now.
As for that Baby Huey Faggity mohawk wearing quarterback Russell…….please stop with the excuses. Call me misguided and judgmental all you want but the facts are the guy has to perfrom better and not only slightly but a postseason appearance worth improvement or he is a bust! Me paying my dime for NFL games and shit does qualify me to say what the hell I want to say. The proof is in what has transpired since he came to Oakland. Holdout, coming to camp fat, horrible accuracy and lack of wins justify my complaints. He hasn;t shut anyone’s mouth. I was at the damn game and people were pissed at him and even cheered Garbage-cia
I respectfully say this and still count you a blog hierarchy. You know more than I do about the game for I am a young still in my late 20s but I do have eyes man

All about the greatness of Al Davis. Pathetic
Nobody’s got anything invested in the Raider enterprise but Al Davis.
Not the Coaches or Players. It’s all about HIM, everybody else is just collecting a paycheck. Why shouldn’t they? He calls all the shots, nobody else has any input.
Then he does a halftime show about himself. Fuk all the great players they’ve had.
^^^^^^^Yeah, I can’t stand the amount of a$$ kissing that is done on Al Davis. Instead of talking about legitimate problems with the team and organization. It turns into a suck up fest? It’s Ridiculous….

August 30th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
WTF!!!!

Russell has a 96.3 passer rating this pre-season.
The Run D is giving up 200+yds in the last 2 losses
August 30th, 2009 at 9:41 pm
only thing that this team needs are DEs and DTs able to play low and square at the LOS imo. we always try to go around our opponents, with bad technique at that, instead of defending our ground, attacking, controlling or at least challenging our guys in the first place.
we need the nasty back down there. fukk the lanes and gaps. we need to GRAB a mf like we are ALLOWED to do and toss him out the way twist his arm, neck, finger, knee, get under his pads and push him BACK ionto the runner/passer/blocker with the hands under his facemask, and not try be cute and nifty everyfuggintime like we always seem to be, with bad technique, only to get flushed out of the plays like bums by TEs and BALLCARRIERS.
we need to take on the blockers, no, we need to >BloW them up and get rid of them instaed of running into them and basically bending over opening up the buttcheecks with the RBs gliding between blocked defenders that are hanging on them like laundry… if they are not already on the ground after two steps.
whaT I see is we are loosing almost every individual battle vs the run (AND! and THoward running way too early out of his zones vs the pass. dude, let him throw to the short route and gang up on him… stay in your zone and force the shortre pass man, there is a reason that route developes rite in front of you. stop getting beat by the QBs eyes!!!)
fugg the gap control, what we need is a old-school bull-in-the-ring before and after every PT… with evryone on the roster expt the QBs. make a big azz circle and call out numbers for 15-20 minutes, scruu who stays behind. thatll make them understand better what needs to be done anywhere on hte field
vent over and out!
ok, this my last post until this blogg is fixed…
August 30th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
Good Evening Nation.
Cable likes TK, so do I, but that doesn’t make him a run stuffer. All our DTs can penetrate, but can’t stuff the run. Also, all our LBs are fast, but most of them are not the ideal size. You Want your LBs to go agaist TEs, FBs, and shed blocks from the Oline. 6′2+ and 240- 250.

I’m ALWAYS miserable as HELL when the Raiders lose!!!!! wtf?

August 30th, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Brien, you’re too much of a hot head. Why don’t you read what I said and understand it for what it is. I said we played a 2-gap as late as Chester Grady Jackson and Chester and Darrell Russell were here at the same time. I’m not sure about Sam Adams that is your claim. But I know Grady played it and so did Chester he said as much. Darrell Russell and Grady Jackson were in the same draft.
If you read my other pst I said we present a 3/4 look in which Warren has assumed a 2-gap responsibility. See the Dallas game, but in our base defense it is a 1-gap system……….period. So is the NYG and the Eagles as well as the Pat’s IMO. Also if I’m not mistaken I would bet that the Vikings play the same system as we do. Those defenses are some of the top defenses in this league.
Plus Brien nobody said you don’t have the right, I said it doesn’t MAKE you right. Russell IMO is doing great so you have your opinion and I have mine. You’ve never played QB in the NFL neither have I but Russell is performing very well wether you agree or like it or hate it. That is a fact……………..period

Kelly, Mistabonehead, and GlenntheGeek exchanging bantor that would make a girl scout proud.
Is anyone surprised?
Is this a revelation?
Did you really need a poll, Kelly, to finally realize the Raiders are the abyss of the NFL?
Only been common knowledge for the last decade.
Welcome to the world, ladies.
Oh, and yes, players would say exactly that working for the Bidwell’s is almost as horrible as working for Al Davis. Bidwill’s have been so tight they squeeze a nickle until the eagle screams. Prior to Bidwill Jr. taking over, Bidwill Sr. was one of the most dispised men in St. Louis, and then in Arizona. Bad decision after bad decision. Parity in the NFL says that at some point even the Cards will field a decent team. And it likely won’t happen again this century.
I’m curious about something, though.
Are kelly and Glennthegeek so slow that they don’t realize that when you have a rambling, ongoing conversation, posting consecutive one or two sentence comments, back to back to back that it indicates you’re..”slow”?
And GlennDork? Go look at post 111 and 112.
I dare you to tell me you aren’t an ignorant kid.

Now, quick, go say something equally as asinine.
If nothing, you are consistent.

Arthur Blank watches his team go to shit and hit the NFL Bottom. So he goes out and hires one of the up and coming GMs, get a new staff, drafts a REAL top tier QB and goes to the playoffs.
Al Davis watches his team go to shit and hit the NFL Bottom. So he conducts business as usual, refuses to own up to the mistakes, drafts sub-par talent and stays in the tank.

And then there is this moron. Funny thing is, GNP has bottomed out, consumer confdidence is higher, stock market is higher, wholesale inventories are now going up, real estate is higher, and NONE of this is due to the conservative policies. In fact, the conservative policies are exactly what got us INTO this disaster, and conservative policies would have sunk us waay deeper into this mess (see Republican Herbert Hoover 1930). In fact Cash For Clunkers got what 600,000 polluting POS off the road and replaced them with newer less polluting cars?? But how would that help the genereal economy other than putting auto workers, parts people, advertisers, sales people, financers, state employees, back to work?? So, either you are contradicting yourself, you don’t know your facts, or you are completely confused and don’t know what the fook you are talking about. It has to be one of the three. Which one is it!!

Raider may do it in the regular season, but man, they needed to blitz Brees more.
He sat back and picked the, apart. You’re already getting toasted, might as well bring the frikkin heat.
Oh well, lotta hopefuls and scrubs populating the field on D yesterday in case anyone noticed or watched the game. Still, what a mess…
http://www.raidernationstation.com/2009_pre_season
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Fact #327 that Nnamdi21 knows NOTHING about football…
How do you blitz a team who has roughly 50% of their plays drawn up in an empty set????
============================
Dearest Teafag,
Granted I only re watched only 3 quarters of last saturdays game against the saints and they may have run “empty set” exclusively in the 4th quarter, but up till the end of the 3rd quarter and after about 70 plays the New Orleans Saints ran exactly FOUR plays empty set.
I’m no mathematician, but I’m pretty sure that FOUR out of nearly SEVENTY plays doesn’t equal “roughly 50%”
Pick on some one with out a brain next time. You should try a Broncos board!

ah man the bickering…..
gentlemen, say watcha will about us having the worse org. but understand the raiders are in rebuilding mode period. we are putting the pieces together like dallas did when they sucked … then got troy emmitt and irving. and built around them . we are doing he same yet i think we have more talent on our roster now than they had then.
bottom line is our lines suck. that will be the tale of our season .we got weapons on offense. ‘cept from the center to the rt. tackle we are soft. not one dominate player. ( problem ) if jamarcus had gannon’s
line when gannon had around ten seconds to throw the ball and with the wr’s and backs we have . raiders would be the most explosive team on he planet. hands down. but since we don’t teams with phsical d-lines
like the chargers the steelers the ravens the giants te redskins they will be licking there chops believing our linemen can’t beat them physically . and for the past few years we get physically out beat.
on the flip-side our d-line we need an albert haynesworth caliber tackle a big beast who can beat a double team plug the middle and still get to the qb.
and a physical mlb period. yet asfar as a dt. no one in this draft class fit that bill.
we need linemen who can dominate at the point of attack.on both sides of the ball wish we could have trade for wilfork . this is the situation not how many people think we are the worst organization. wgaf about what they think. we are not far away yet we got a ways to go. when we adrress the lines the greatness of he raidahs is in it’s futcha……

Welcome to Oakland, Ellis. You’re one of many serious football players that were duped by Al into believing that things were turning around in Oakland, only to come here and find out the hard way that nothing has changed. Rich Gannon will tell you all about the uphill battle it was getting his teammates to understand that the team lining up against them is not going to lay down just because they’re playing the Raiders. If anything, they’re going to come after you even harder. Being a Raider in the modern day NFL does not strike fear into people. It puts a bulls eye on your back. You get it, Ellis. But unfortunately most of your squad doesn’t. Good luck.

Hey dumbass Namdi21, you ever heard of an audible???
Drew Brees is pretty good at those…
If he reads blitz, which is pretty fuckin easy against this Raiders D… He can audible into empty set and force the Raiders to make the adjustment….

we will be an exciting team to watch we will beat teams that we should . should have a good home record
the interesting part will be when teams just all out blitz us or just be able to beat us up front but there are only a handful of teams who play that way. can somebody tell me why erick pears can’t take cornell green’s job at rt.tackle
August 31st, 2009 at 12:47 am

yet they both don’t have what i takes to dominate their man .thats the problem alot of times they are getting beat when it really counts. they would be backups on any other teams ‘ they’re just average vets

Raider Dee, Al Davis deserves as much credit as anyone when we win. He hired Gruden in 98. Great move, culminated into a Super Bowl visit 4 years later. Thank you, Mr. Davis. Now that we’ve cleared that up, that was then, this is now, and Al Davis needs to retire. He’s ruined any chance of ever getting a coach here again. Don’t ask why, because you know. He can’ get a GM either. No doubt Madden was that “big name” he thought he was going to bring in. A lot of us have been saying this about Davis well before the drubbing yesterday. So quit being a drama queen.

Raider Dee, when you pick up your prozak prescription tomorrow, come back, read this thread again, and see where I give Al Davis credit for the entire Gruden era. I gave Al Davis credit for when we won. So it’s only fair I blame him when we lose. People like you, on the other hand, never want to blame Al Davis for anything, but want to herald him as the architect of everything great about the Raiders. You’re the real hypocrite. Al Davis needs to retire. And so do you. To bed.

GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 31st, 2009 at 4:17 am
yup…
we got problems…
i don’t feel like saying “who’s gonna stop the run” anymore…
i wanna say: who’s gonna play defense???
i wanted Raji, Brace, Brinkley… and every one of them were available to us… we could have had every one of them…
DHB may well become a weapon… but we already had a guy who can run fast downfield… could’ve had Raji here…
Mitchell probably won’t play this year… and don’t be surprized if he never plays… could’ve had Brace here…
Matt Shaunessy… where is matt these days???
Louis Murphy… good pick and good value… it would be helpful if he hung onto the ball…
Slade Norris… 4th rounder… definately should have been Brinkley taken here… by the way… what does Norris do???
Stryker Sulak… schit… i might have drafted him just because of his name… but he’s not here anymore…
Brandon Myers… a find… very good pick…
so who’s gonna play defense???
August 31st, 2009 at 4:18 am
discipline falls apart once you start getting stomped…
that statement is true for virtually every sport and military event…
it’s only the very best, smartest and disciplined players/troops who can survive a beating… and possibly come back to win…
so part of it is discipline…
and another part of it is talent…
i think we are woefully short in the talent department…
getting Barnes back should go a long way to curing the O-line… where is Wade??? is he hurt??? if not, he needs to play… Satelle does not have it…
here’s the draft picks i had in January…
B.J. Raji, Boston College, DT, 1st Team DT Green Bay
Ron Brace, Boston College, DT, 1st Team DT NE Patriots
Augustus Parrish, Kent State, OT (released by the Saints) (I think I changed this pick before draft day)
Jasper Brinkley, South Carolina, MLB, backs up EJ Harrington
Derek Walker, Illinois, DE (released by Redskins)
Dallas Reynolds, BYU, C/G free agent signed w/Eagles, 3rd team C/G
Reynolds will be available on wednesday…
looking at Derek Walker can’t hurt… he’s good against the run…
and… looking at Parrish can’t hurt…
August 31st, 2009 at 4:20 am
I think i’m going to start a feature for this here blog…
i’ll call Pete’s Stoopid Schit Department…
My very first entry into the Pete’s Stoopid Schit Department is the following:
Linebacker Napoleon Harris’ return to the Raiders lasted only five days, as the Raiders released the 2002 first-round draft pick so that they could re-sign linebacker Chris O’Neill.
O’Neill was signed by the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Boise State in the offseason. He arrived to the Raiders as a tight end and worked out as such in offseason workouts.
Then came a call from managing general partner Al Davis and coach Tom Cable informing O’Neill that he was being converted to middle linebacker.
O’Neill seems to be under the impression that the Raiders are targeting him for the practice squad. If so, that would mean he has to be released before Sept. 6, clear waivers and then be re-signed again.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
now that’s some stoopid schit !!!!
i gotta idea… how’s about we get players who already know how to play the position…
especially MLB… ESPECIALLY !!!!
why the fuqq anyone would want the captain of the defense to be someone who has never played defense before is ridiculous and qualifies as stoopid schitt !!!!
i mean… hell… let’s go all the way…
we coulda drafted Hakeem Thabeet…
at least he can block field goals…
August 31st, 2009 at 4:23 am
hey, did you notice that i picked 2 DT’s…
a MLB, a DE…
a center, and an OT…
now… what has everyone been bitching about for the past 3 weeks…
August 31st, 2009 at 4:50 am
Pete, I wanted the following:
Round 1: Eugene Monroe or Andre Smith – only a fool would pass on a standout OT. Both Monroe and Smith could start at RT and move across with experience.
Round 2: Phil Loadholt – another OT but I think he could make a great OG.
Round 3: Ramses Barden – big, good hands and a genuine red-zone threat. I thought he would be outstanding 3rd round value – the Giants agreed.
Round 4: Chip Vaughan – yes, we needed a SS and Vaughan was a proven playmaker. Loads more experience than Mitchell and, because Aaron Curry got all the attention, somewhat under-rated.
I would have used the 6th and 7th on the best (and biggest) DLinemen available.
The tragedy is that Monroe, Loadholt, Barden and Vaughan were all available. We took DHB, Mike Mitchell, Shaughnessy and Murphy. Why?
This franchise is damned by ridiculous draft day decisions. Davis and his cronies have gambled pick after pick on track stars and small college maybees. And what do we get. An Oline have can’t pass protect and which crumbles against the rush and a Dline that can’t exert any sustained pressure and can’t stop the run.
We have the highest wage bill in the NFL. What a joke.

I don’t blame Russell either. Our starting Oline just does’t have enough quality:
LT – Mario Henderson: Lots of ability but still immature and lacking in elite skills. With experience, he might make a reasonable OT. Passing on Monroe was a monstrous mistake.
LG – Robert Gallery: Now a top class OG but his failure as an OT has scarred this organisation.
C: Samson Satele: Too small. Probably more reliable than Jake Grove but still too lightweight to hold off all the big 3:4 NTs we have to face. A liability in waiting.
RG – Cooper Carlisle: Great technique but that no longer is enough to compensate for a lack of bulk. Now getting regularly over-powered – but we missed another chance to drat his replacement.
RT – Cornell Green: Serial back-up, serial disappointment. Just not good enough. Green shouldn’t beon the roster, let alone starting. And the likes of Wilson, Marten and McQuistan are damned because they can’t beat him out.
Only Gallery is good enough. Henderson might be but, the others are on the way down…and fast. Time to scour the waiver wires.
August 31st, 2009 at 5:54 am
As for the Dline:
DE – Greg Ellis: Proven performer, great attitude but the body is weakening. We need him – shame he isn’t three years younger.
DT – Tommy Kelly: Over-stuffed DE becomes well-stuffed, over paid DT. Never seems to make the big plays and his motor is half-bore. Can’t last many plays before being rested. Lacks intensity and leadership. A real waste of an awful lot of money.
DT – Gerald Warren: Mr Hot’n'cold. Can be excellent but is too often very average. Has so much talent for so little delivery. Overpaid for the questionable contribution he makes.
DE – Trevor Scott: Over-hyped last season and a situational rusher at best. In many ways, Scott is a throwback to the old Lombardi tweeners. Mid-West, white farm boys with great gym stats and great attitude – who all fail.
Only Bryant looks a talent on the rise. Sands is rubbish, Richardson is average, Gunheim is inadequate and Shaughnessy is no shooting star. Time to scour the waiver wires…again.
August 31st, 2009 at 5:57 am
actually, i am very okay with Henderson… his little binge (w/o purge) last week was a mistake… hopefully he won’t do it during the regular season… but i think he’s fine… we have other issues that take precedence…
gallery was the victim of a philosophy that i simply do not agree with… any first rounder… in my opinion… should be plugged into the line-up at their position… i don’t care if it’s quarterback or halfback, left tackle or middle line backer…
if you didn’t need the guy at that position… you should have drafted someone else at a position of need…
and yes, that does mean sink or swim…
personally, i would never draft a player in the top ten of the draft under these conditions… except to refuse to sign him… and by the way, that’s exactly what i would do… i would draft a good prospect of 3rd round talent and simply tell the agent that 3rd round money is all i will be offering… sign, don’t sign… up to the agent and player…
really… why would any reasonable business man pay top-tier wages for an unproven player…
example:
Drew Brees 3/14/2006: Signed a six-year, $60 million contract. The deal contains $20 million guaranteed, including an $8 million signing bonus. 2009-2011: $9.8 million, 2012: Free Agent. Cap charge: $14 million (2009).
now let’s compare him to:
Jamarcus Russell 9/10/2007: Signed a six-year, $61 million contract. The deal contains $32 million guaranteed, including all six years’ base salaries and a $19.9 million option bonus in the second year. Also available is a onetime performance bonus of $2.8 million. Another $7 million is available through incentives. Russell earned a $3 million escalator for 2010 by taking over 45% of the snaps in 2008. 2009: $460,000, 2010: $550,000 (+ $3 million escalator), 2011: $650,000, 2012: $6.69672 million, 2013: Free Agent

as much as i like Russell and think he could have an excellent future in the NFL…
i would much rather have a proven player and take a chance on him… than take a rookie out of college and pay him like an ALL-PRO !!!
and since the Raiders have been drafting in the top 10 for how many year??? we have a payroll problem that won’t go away until we dump the losers… take our beating (financially) and move on…

GOOD MORNING SPORT’S FAN’S HOW THE PLAYER’S AND COACH’S RE ACT 2 THIS CLUSTER-PHUUCK IS IMPORTANT ALSO IMO..
August 31st, 2009 at 6:08 am
Pete, I don’t disagree. The Raiders were boxed in over the Russell draft. Couldn’t trade down – no takers. The alternatives were Calvin Johnson, but who would throw him the ball? Or Brady Quinn, who had a great pedigree but, as the years have shown, only an average talent.
If only Kiffin had been able to sign Garcia in 2006. We could have then taken CJ and a lower round QB as a project.
I quite like Russell and he will continue to improve. The problem is just that he will never be as productive as Brees, even if they earn the same money.
I wonder how Al Davis is feeling about Andrew Walter being trusted by the Pats to back-up Brady. Walter is another savage indictment of Raider coaching. He still holds most of the PAC10 records, he has elite arm strength and he is really smart. Good luck to AW.
August 31st, 2009 at 6:14 am
yes, Walter was another victim… i still have a high regard for him…
at first he was the victim of an offensive line that was atrocious…
then he was victimized by kid kiffie…
after that he victimized himself…
the only answer for him was to go to a winning program with a good coaching staff…

Aside from the drudging…..and being embarrased for 3 and 3/4 of a the game…and sucking impossibly bad on defense…..and having a pourus o line….and shabby rookie WR expose them selves…This was a good loss a preseason ARSE WHIPPIN to show these guys that you had better be ready or yuo will be embarrased on a weekly basis…Plus it made a VET DE stand up and call out a young team WE NEED THIS…Nnamdi cant do every thing Hopefully Ellis pays of big I see double digit sacks and a true leader!!! As for Jamarcus he has all the tools but the roof has flew off and the are rusting away this guy had better get it figured out and soon before the nation has his head…I was talking to a long time Raider fan yesterday maybe 30-40 years….he said he would never even buy a Jamarcus jersey B/C how he held out…Raiders had a impecable record bringing rookies in house untill this he is being redicolously over payed to begin with he didnt need a few more million….This kid had better realize this is a long long way from the SEC…….

Shanahan proved in the 90’s that an average running back can be a star if he has an excellent O line and a good QB…

CHEERS TO GREG ELLIS FOR PUNKING THE KIDS AFTER THE GAME!
At least he brings some leadership to that D line. If what he said indicates what REALLY when on the night before the game, they deserve to be embarrassed. Preseason or not preparation has to be taken seriously.
Russell hangs on to long a coughs up the ball after our first and only impressive drive of the game. After that drive it seemed the whole team sorta gave up… Pathetic.
Not to mention Cables predicatble play calling reminded me of Lane Kiffin. At least it was pass happy instead of power O with Fargas on 3rd and 15, but the 3rd and long where he called a streak to DHB was a stupid play call. I don’t think that play even had a short route dump off option. Everyone goes deep and backs stay back in pass protection whar all we needed was 6-7 yards to keep the drive going… Pathetic.
Everyone should learn alot from that.

come on man! Shell is a man of dignity, honor and discipline. He has all the integrity in the world. Unfortunately, he (like Al Davis) looked to people he could trust rather than people who might have been better suited for the coaching jobs under him.

I agree. These young guys are soft. Cable needs to take a look at Singltary across the bay and see how his players fear reprocussions for stupid decisions and stupid play on game day. Someone needs to step up and become the leader of the locker room, and it shouldn’t have to be Greg Ellis.

i remember those games…
no coach in the history of the NFL needed more timeouts than the Shell did when there was a change of possession or a long gain…
i call that no being prepared…
someone should know what needs to be done if there is a change of possession on any given play…
someone should know what needs to be done if there is a big gainer or a sack…
someone… anyone… i call that lack of preparation…
this is not a slight against Shell the person or Shell the player… it is an indictment of Shell the Head Coach…

Wait a minute. I don’t think that is true. The roll out to Murphy (who cought it up) was GREAT pocket awareness. I thought Russell was the only guy besides Zach Miller on offense who played well. He was accurate and poised for the most part. Dropped balls fumbled balls and penalties negated everything good Russell was able to do. I thought he did his part to be competetive in that game.

doesn’t get more strict than Art Shell. He’s right up there with Tom Coughlin and Rod Marinelli … some teams/players respect and obey, follow suit. some don’t. Coughlin almost got fired countless times with the Giants, but once players bought in they started winning. Millen kept drafting WR’s and saddled Marinelli with an old broken down QB. what about the lines? Rod was forced to resort to scrubs in FA or guys on scholarship – hoping a new coach makes all the difference.
that approach doesn’t work here in Oakland because our Head Coach doesn’t have any power. players go straight to Al Davis’ office and complain about the HC. Art Shell was right about Jerry Porter. what is that clown doing now? bagging groceries?

JRUSS should be setting the example…..

Wore my raiders cap Saturday morning here in Atlanta, needless to say it was off Saturday evening! As long as there’s no QB pressure from a blitzing CB or LB we will be losing , a 3 or 4 lineman rush won’t work ! Get ready for another losing season if they don’t blitz and keep using those lame ass zones of cover 2 and cover 3 on passing downs with no blitzing from those zones!
August 31st, 2009 at 7:40 am
Our D was pathetic, never penetrated, out-classed, and we really suck.
August 31st, 2009 at 7:43 am
art messed up by not hiring young up and coming cordinators with vision for the modern nfl. someone to groom into being the next coach after he retires.
all in all i think cable will turn things around he just needs to punch one of these players in the jaw.
then he will have orde of the team !
August 31st, 2009 at 7:46 am
Until Al Davis realizes that offensive tackle and defensive end are the two most important positions on the football field, we will continue to suck.
August 31st, 2009 at 7:46 am
Lmao were screwed if our best chance of having good dt’s is by picking up another teams garbage at cut time. Remember players are cut for a reason. Not saying quality starters dont get cut. Its not likely that we find any hidden gems come cut time, we already struck gold with desmond bryant, chances are what we got now is what we got opening day.

I still cant believe that Art Shell hired a guy who was running a bed and breakfest. Art Shell was a top notch player and his first stint as a head coach was pretty good. His second stint as a head coach was an embarassment.
August 31st, 2009 at 7:54 am
C’mon guys were we really expecting more from the D this year? Well maybe a little more but we knew they were gonna suck. I expect to be improved on offense however. Again, I think Russell played well as well as Zach Miller.
August 31st, 2009 at 7:56 am
it’s not just the d-line the o-line is soft also.
gonna be interesting when we face the chargers ( who i think can be taken but always seem to kick our o-lines ass physically down the stretch )
the steelers, the ravens, the ny city giants
the redskins the jets these will definitely b the best defenses we will face and philly who blitz like crazy.
i said it once i’ll say it again i like our talent on offense. i think it will be exciting to watch but when we play these phsical teams thats gonna be the hard part to watch ( on offense )
defensively thats another story………..

I was impressed with Louis Murphy, yes i know he dropped two balls that would have been first downs and fumbled another one. Rookies make mistakes. Had he caught those two balls we’d be talking about what a good game he had, had he not fumbled also, we’d be saying he had an amazing game. Point is, if he can cut down on the rookie mistakes he can be very special this year. I know a lot of people are hoping Javon steps it up and can hopefully soften the loss of Chaz, but really I think our best bet is hoping Murphy can cut down on the rookie mistakes. I think by the time Schilens comes back from his injury, him and Murphy will make a formidable duo at the wide out position.

August 31st, 2009 at 8:06 am
Can anyone in here gaurantee that this game will determine everything we do this year?
As bad and as ugly as it was it was still a preseason game for LEARNING. My attitude is that hopefully this sounds enough of an alarm that this will be a blessing in disguise.
IMO it was one of those where we did everything wrong and they did everything right……..it happens and probably wil again during the season.
Just a sobering thought! I don’t think this was going to win the SB anyway. I think this year is purely one in which we will establish some players as legitimate starters in the league and give us an opportunity to finish biulding a great team. I think the visions of granduer are what comes crashing down when you see something like what happened Sat.
This team is very young and propensity for things like this are very probable. Murphy is a rookie so is DHB and DMC and Bush are als very young not to mention Russell. So sober up and get ready for an up and down season while they LEARN.
And next offseason we’ll add more pieces. Enjoy this year for what it is a year in which we re=establish ourselves as players in this league. If anything else happens better then GREAT.
August 31st, 2009 at 8:11 am
heard Tony Gonzalez on the Dan Patrick show being asked about team bullying him and he said guys on the Raiders used to try to intimidate him. He specifically mentioned how Romanowski would cheap shot him when no one was looking, tug on his facemask, and even punched him in the face various times. Nnamdi is a solid player but we need a Romo or 2 on our team. I can only hope Mike Mitchell is one of them
August 31st, 2009 at 8:12 am
we also need some vet leadership i don’t think we have anybody on our team with post season experience maybe ellis i don’t know .we need somebody who will stand up and kick somebody’s ass. we know it ain’t russell he’s still too young . namdi should get in the face of his defense provoke fight point the finger and challenge these suckers who want to be content on being content. but not just him . we need a big figure with freakin heart and desire to make this team accountable.

The problem we have as fans is we want resolution NOW, and that just is not going to happen.
Give this team and the coaches a chance to develpe a team that they can win with but that wont happen over night……..period
August 31st, 2009 at 8:16 am
Don’t worry, with the next John Madden at the helm, the best owner is sports, an offense that is impossible to stop, DTs that are dominant and have to be doubled all the time, a solid front seven and an underrated RT we should be great this year!
August 31st, 2009 at 8:17 am
I am also happy w/ the performance of Murphy. My buddies were bashing him but I saw a guy fighting out there who took his lumps and won’t make those mistakes in the regular season. Our O has plenty of weapons but is very young so we need confindence and time to build a rythm and chemistry. Don’t know if our Dline will give us enough time to do so this year however
August 31st, 2009 at 8:21 am
this team needs leadership. thats why guys like Jeff Garcia & Greg Ellis speak up. thats what leaders do
Lorenzo Neal & Derrick Brooks would also be welcome additions. too bad we gave up on both.
Russell & Nnamdi aren’t leaders. more like team spokesmen. same with morrison & fargas. nobody follows thier lead and they don’t hold other ppl accountable
August 31st, 2009 at 8:21 am
Bombs4ya, You’re exactly right! but that has to happen naturally it can’t be phony or contrived. So those guy’s probably are in the lockeroom but haven’t stepped forward yet but trust me they eventually will.
I read that Gallery was calling out his linemates during the game and I can’t remember who else on defense did as well. Ellis had is say after the game.
Again this is a very young team IMO the leaders will step forward as the seaon developes.

here’s the problem…
by the time we get all those pieces at the rate of 3 or 4 per year…
well… we all know that contracts expire… and as of now there is still a salary cap…
so by the time we get our lines set… how many free agents will we need to deal with???
here’s some examples:
Thomas Howard will be a free agent after this season…
so will:
Morrison
Janikowski
Watkins
Wade
Routt
Reese
Rankin
Morris
McQuistan
Lawton
Holland
Gunheim
Greene
Gradkowski
Eugene
Condo
Barnes

I say whatever I want, I don’t work or answer to anyone. Mike is my friend nothing more. But so are others over there.
I just see things my own way. Anyone can be negative I choose to look at things the way that I do.
I really like Cable, I told many in here when Russell was looking his worse that he would be one of the bright stars in this league for many years and I still believe it.
I told everyone in here that Jake Grove was a good center and everyone laughed. Their not laughing anymore. I’m trying to get them to understand that Warren is not nearly as bad as they say. But they wont realize it until he’s gone.
I think T Kelly is going to have a great year. This year has to be one where we establish Bush and DMC as dominant players. Losing Chaz almost made me cry…..literally! Murphy and DHB will have great games and some lousy ones. We desparately need Walker to come in and contribute as well as JLH. Our TE’s might be the best in the league as a group.
I’ll say this Garcia looked very good Sat. Russell could learn a ton from him. But Garcia has to accept his role for that to happen.
Gotta go, too much to get done today.
Adios!!

Florida Pete, That’s what management is for you resign the ones you want and mix and match to biuld the team you want.
Here’s the difference between the last 7 years and now. We have a QB that can stablize this franchise. Trust me that is a HUGE difference. Now biulding a line is not that hard we probably can get by with what we have and still get better. I really don’t think most understand what Dez Bryant can bring to this team. T Scott and Matt Shuaghnessey can play they’re just young. That’s 3 very young Dlineman, we have an extremely talented and young secondary. Very deep at the safety position as well as corners. Get a great LB at either SLB or MLB preferably MLB and this defense can change immediately.

Thats exactly what im talking about. Throw in the pass Higgins dropped and that could have easily been an extra thirty to forty yards. Besides that i think there was a lot more dimensions to our offense than they were showing. I cant remember if they lined up mcfadden at receiver. But im sure they will do that more often in the season, and i really expect us to be doing a few more reverses per game, the one we did was to Murphy, but i expect most of them will go to Bey and possibly to mcfadden when hes split out wide. I think the offense will have some interesting looks in the season. I think Cable may use quite a bit of trickery during the season, much like the dolphins of last year. We got the personnel and speed to do just about anything if we execute. I really want us to go out and pull out all the tricks against the bolts in the opener.

The Raiders were only several non-fumbles, made catches, broken tackles, made tackles, better play calls, and closed Burger Kings from beating the Saints. Hope we catch some breaks versus the Chargers.
August 31st, 2009 at 9:27 am
that called mcfadden fumble was clearly not a fumble. it came out way to late, and you could see on the replay that his knee was down.

What is this we need to focus on us crap? We are not the Raiders. This is just a discussion board.
And YES I do think its funny that the Chiefs fired their Offensive Coordinator 2 weeks before the season starts.
If that had been Oakland all we would hear about is how dysfunctional the organization is for firing the Offensive Coordinator right before the start of the season.
Yet, somehow you guys are making that out to be a plaus for the Chiefs.

Our starting QB..looks ok at best. I’ve watched Matthew Stafford, M. Ryan, J. Flacco, Mark Sanchez and they all look further along than J. Russel! Why is that? Coaching? Ownership?
This team is rotten from the Top—->Bottom

Cheetos, Have you watched Staffor or Sanchez? Both qb’s are great presence in the pocket..they look far more fluid in their motions and deliver the ball w/o hesitation.
Did you watch Russel..hold on to the ball for about 9 seconds and get stripped from behind? That is something that would happen to a high school QB. I’ve yet to see Sanches/Stafford look that inept in the pocket

If something isn’t working, either you fix it, or replace it. LAST THING you need to do is have another “Bed and Breakfast” Walsh coach on board, who hasn’t a clue, it’s obvious he doesn’t have a clue, yet the team that hired the guy keeps him all year long.
By your account, even though it was obvious to the GM and the HC that the O coor wasn’t buying into what they wanted to do, they should just allow him to game plan, and butt heads all year? Now THAT’S dysfunctional.
Here..want more examples of moronic dysfunctional coaching hire/fire decisions?
Last year during the offseason a HC was obviously on his way out. Massive head butts with the owner. Guy knew he was going to be fired. Coaches knew. Players knew. Beat writers knew..yet instead of firing the guy, and starting off the season fresh, the idiot owner decided to keep him around for 3 months, with the sole intent of trying to get something/anything from the guy so he could fire him without having to pay him his salary. Owner torched the WHOLE SEASON trying to save the equivalent of LESS THAN 1 PERCENT OF HIS TOTAL OUTLAY FOR THE YEAR..
Now..THAT is dysfunctional.
Who was that guy?

You are aware that posts like this show you aren’t…uh…what’s the word I’m looking for????…
Oh yeah…”mature”.
Silly rah rah is Jr. High stuff…high school at best.
College’s chant for the team, but “roll call nation members”??
What’s next? If someone doesn’t “chant along like a baffoon” they’re NOT “actual true diehard Raider fans”?
See, EVERY teams fans believe THEY are the most loyal. Biggest diehards. Live and breathe their team. As they should.
Most are foolish enough to state they’re the ONLY ONES who feel that way.
Now here’s a harsh reality check.
Raider Nation? (as compared to the RedSox Nation, which has been around a lot longer, Steeler Nation, which is actually documented LONG before Raider Nation was coined…etc..etc.) that “NATION” you refer to is actually not a nation, but a small, pretty much deserted island.
Raiders have the most blackouts, in the last ten years, OF ANY NFL TEAM..the most. Means Raider fans don’t show up and support their team. How else do you measure it?
Yeah, yeah, “there are Raider fans everywhere”..
Dude, they’re are Cowboy fans everywhere too..and I see Giant fans everywhere..EVERY GAME PLAYED AT EVERY STATIUM, EVERY WEEK has a whole slew of the away teams fans in the seats..so..all it comes down to is how do you support your team in YOUR HOUSE.
Raider fans are at the very bottom of the list.

Typical with anything bad with the Raiders its blown out of proportion and anything good is not mentioned. It was a preseason game, right? Wasn’t that Cowboys game a preseason game? We got blown out in the opener last year against SD and everyone thought we were the worst team in the league. Then, we came back and beat the Chiefs the next week. We’ll be fine. At least we have some guys on the team willing to call out some people on the team.
August 31st, 2009 at 10:27 am
I think our issues are the same as last year. You consider the order:
1) To many Penalties
2) O-line starting the season cold
3) Defense no heart! They don’t like contact.
I can’t put more emphasis on the defense being late to the ball and not wanting to hit. Look at all the arm tackling they did with no pop!! What so ever. These punks in black are heartless!!!

NOW you think Russell should get 4 FULL YEARS IN THE NFL to decide?
Are you new at this?
First year is learning the system. He got to sit his fatass all year long to learn..then got babied into the games..then handed the reins in his second year.
Now it’s his 3 year, and you want this AND NEXT YEAR??
What you’re saying is YOU ACCEPT THE FACT YOU THINK HE’S GOING TO TOTALLY SUCK THIS YEAR..so..you want to avoid copping to it until one more year.

Wonder what impact it would have on the team if JRUSS
1. Rip into someone when they f up?
2. Come into camp in shape?
3. Be more vocal(dont want to hear its not his style)
4. Set an example, cut partying while in season.
5. Become 65 million dollar serious about this team.
Look at all the QB’s manning, rivers, brady do they exude any of the above traits as a leader….
I read where JRUSS said he leads by example, on the contrary if he would lead by example he would have come into camp in shape.

Howie Long, Ronnie Lott, Art Shell (the player, Rod Woodson, Marcus Allen, Bo Jackson, Gannon.
They would have played with no one in the d@mn stands!!! That is what real players with heart do!!! This is not the team of the past they have along way to go.

Now, have to ask..and I’m serious…are you crying?
I hate it when I make grown kids cry. I really, really do.
My apologies.
Now, back to your whimpering..I assume you’re saying “I’m flustered. I can’t think of something to say, so let me just state ‘you won’t say this to my face”..in other words, you’re having trouble finding words.
I can help.
What, exactly, are you trying to say?

NFC CHAMPIONS..in the SB..but..they “aren’t that good”?

Ok, your right. If you were a Cardninals fan I wouldn’t bash you so hard. But your right. They are leaps and bounds better than the Niners.

Dude..without a doubt you might be the least intelligent poster I’ve ever met, ANYWHERE.
You spell like you’re in 2nd grade..for the 3rd time.
And yeah, I quiver in fear about Beech challenging any of my comments regarding the Raiders, lol
Let me update you.
Beech grabbed his balls, and stepped up..ONCE.
I sent his ass to the shadows..where he’s been begging off ever since.
Now? He’s reduced to following me, making silly little comments, then rushing back to the shadows, feigning dis-interest.
In other words, he’s waving that white flag..proudly so..accepting being invisible is better than being exposed.
Beech is the LAST person I ever expect to grow some balls, and defend the Raiders.
Sorry to burst your little bubble.

It appears our team’s lack of intelligence is exceeded only by the douche-osity it’s blog trolls, whose lives clearly revolve around some Freudian Al Davis anti-cult complex.
How rational is it to blame Al just because John Matuszak nailed your mother with your Dad in the room. Is it Al’s fault she most audibly liked it?
Hit home, clowns?

Wow, lil Ricky is more hopped up and paranoid than usual! See fellow bloggers, this is what happens when you mix high levels of sugar and narcotics in a skinny little adolescent body.
Besides typing blog after blog with his frantic cut and pasting, I’m sure the little dude is peering out his window every 20 seconds for little green men looking to take over his mind. And I’m sure his nervous twitch and frothing at the mouth doesn’t freak out any of his co workers.
Anyway, I’m sure we’ll learn much more about him when the cops search his apartment following his inevitable shooting spree at Walmart.
And lil Rick, even though you’re certifiable, I’m still not going to allow you to repeatedly steal my material.
Gotta draw the line somewhere, you silly little dude!

Ok, here’s your assignment.
Read the above, OUT LOUD. not to yourself..but out loud.
Then come back and report how you feel.
Damn, I hope you’re not a product of our educational system.
As far as ‘I no’s mo bout da raders den yous dew”?
My money says you couldn’t discuss the Raiders if your life depended on it. Just because someone slapped a raider t on you when you were a kid, means squat.
Doesn’t make you a “die hard” anymore than anyone else who supports their team, whatever that team may be.
Oh..can we get another “ROLL CALL NATION’?? lol…
that was priceless.
Oh..and as far as saying anything in east oakland? Fool..no one in east oakland goes to raider games.
Except maybe to jack the drunks..

I know you cult followers don’t care if the Raiders ever win again. But us fans do. The Wharton School of Business is the Top Business school of the land. I din’t expect you’d know of it, though.
NFL Players say the Raiders are the worst organization in the
NFL.

Those of us who actually care about the Raiders, want this changed.

Nice post KoolKell – I actually want this changed as well. Some of these clowns on this blog are not even talking about the game they are actually Jaw Jacking back in forth like little a$$es. This blog has been taken over by dope heads and nerds who never even touched a football before.

I can safely say Lil Ricky is fast becoming one of my favorite little bloggers of all the newbies.
I even kind of like the fact that he’s wacked out on medication and still able to post – however disjointed. That takes dedication, a quality I demand in a follower. Don’t worry, dudes, he’s not in my Top 10 yet, but damn if he isn’t making the effort.
Anyway, looking forward to more of his frantic cut and pasting and incoherent ramblings as the season goes on. And it’s always enjoyable to see him go down in flames at the hands of the older dudes on the blog.
Keep it up, old timers – you still got it!
Speaking of old dudes, man I hope poor Krappy survived the night. Poor old goat was desperately trying to get everyone to read some lame link he found and posted it about a dozen times.
That’s about the number of lines Lil Ricky will snort at lunch to maintain minimal brain function.

Real talk da raiders need 2 get a coner 4rm free agency lik chris mcallister 2 go wit 21(da best in da game) and force short throws and tackle…cuz pressure make n e secondary look good cus johnson n euegene aint ready it won’t hurt 2 bring a sure handed wideout since our young guyz havein troulbe holdin on 2 da ball cuz dey do have sum nice wideouts n free angency but its a must we blitz cus as u seen saturday we can’t cover if da qb has time 2 throw atleast we kno we hav 1 side of da defensive sured up
