Roster trimming appears underway
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, August 31st, 2009 at 11:26 am in Oakland Raiders.
The following players were not present as the Raiders ended stretching and special teams work to begin practice:
G Marcus Johnson, C Jonathan Compas, WR Shawn Bayes, WR Will Franklin and DT Joe Cohen.
It’s possible the Raiders gave themselves a day’s headstart to reach 75 players.
Among those who were not suited up were S Rashad Baker (stinger) and CB Nnamdi Asomugha (chip fracture). LB Slade Norris (calf) was not on the field, nor was wide receiver Chaz Schilens (broken foot).
Those who looked to have returned to practice are C John Wade (stinger), out for the first preseason game, and DE Matt Shaughnessy (foot sprain). LB Kirk Morrison is suited up, but his left elbow as heavily wrapped and it remains to be seen how much he’ll practice.
Practice closed to the media following stretching and warmups starting today. Will update later after briefing from Cable and player interviews, if available.

No surprises there. When does Sands get cut? Lets give Bryant some PT. Wonder what Cable’s approach to this week’s practice will be.
August 31st, 2009 at 11:34 am
I don’t know if getting rid of Sands makes us better or not. Were pretty weak depth wise but, cutting him could make room for some one who contribute.

As I don’t post much, I selfishly, and sometimes foolishly, consider myself the voice of reason occasionally, so here goes.
My assessment of the offseason so far, Saturday’s game, and the future of the team.
1. Preseason game in which Cable did nothing but call passes that went to rookie wideouts and occasionally TE’s and RBs should alarm us but not to the extent some of us are perceiving this loss to be.
O not really the issue. We’ll run the ball in the regular season, DMC will be in the slot, Bush will be in the backfield (or together in pro), with Fargas on the pine pony. Meaning our O will be on the field longer and that JV team we call a defense will be on the field less.
2. Silver (and Black) lining: We all know the D can play when they want. This D. Same one, same players did so a few times last year. Sub Burgess for Ellis, Branch for Wilson, and its basically the same.
The need to make some stops and play discipline football. we will have to rely heavily on our secondary, cuz the front 7 isn’t much.
3. Desmond Bryant looks great.
4. Scott looks terrible.
5. Russell looks great. High completion percentage, throwing to WRs, no INTs.
6. O line is serviceable. Rookie WRs will come along, DHB is already getting doubled and hes caught what, 2 three passes? Plus, Chaz will be back soon.
7. What else can Cable really do with regards to discipline? He spent the first week of camp working on all that. Team showed none or very little of that Saturday. A few FAs or a trade cant do much unless its a player, like Ellis, these punks can (or should) respect.
8. We will look a lot better than this come opening night. We’re still pretty vanilla. That being said, we’re in store for a lot of 100 yard rushing performances.
I mean from other teams, not ours.
This team will continue to suffer until we start replacing these ATHLETES with PLAYERS.
August 31st, 2009 at 11:43 am
Good cuts, not so sure about Johnson. We need a young rg, and a new RT. Sands should be cut prior to cut down day. Big dont mean shiyt if you sorry. Barnes needs to get healthy ASAP so we can see if he is the answer at RT, could delay us from picking up a suprise cut.
August 31st, 2009 at 11:44 am
That was curious Cable forced the passing game ,i guess to get some reps for Murphy and other potential targets for Russell.
August 31st, 2009 at 11:44 am
I have a feeling the Raiders will be VERY BUSY signing other team offcasts, don’t you?
Let’s see..you need help at D line, O line, WR, Dback.
15 new players should do it.

Cable probably uses Thursday’s game to showcase Rankin and Gary Russell before he cuts them. Perhaps also to determine whos 3rd QB.
Very tough to see him doing anything with starters or anything resembling a regular season game.
Maybe more Javon Walker. Give Bryant a chance. Line him up at DT, RDE, lol SLB.

Thanks for talking about a real thought out football perspective. Some of these clowns on this blog are not even talking about the game they are actually jaw jacking and most likely jacking back in forth like little a$$es. This blog has been taken over by dope heads, drunks and nerds who never even touched a football before. It is nice to have someone with common sense comment for a change.

We really wasted a great opportunity Saturday to gameplan for a strong opponent and execute what was practiced.
Still, I don’t see the Seattle game being anything out of the ordinary for a 4th preseason game.

Javon “take a walk” Walker
Has to get some more time on the field so we know what he can do. You have to test a head case like him ASAP and often.

Preciate it. I love the opportunity to talk Raider football. Sometimes I get sidetracked (see post 11), but I think most of us, even the knucklheads, know football, but frequent the site so often, it becomes a January d;ck measuring contest in Wisconsin, and valuable insight becomes limited while trying to defend opinions and call out others for theirs.

Hate??
Au contraire’.
What’s to hate?
It’s a never ending source of entertainment.
Do you realize how many times I get genuine laughter from what the Raiders do?
What Raider fans say?
How Raider fans act?
Way the Raiders play?
It’s a smorgasbord of chuckles.
I mean, with other teams, the offseason means you wait endlessly for something/anything to give you a football fix..but with the Raiders?
Offseason is the Raiders stage..
the yearly search for a new HC alone is worth the price of admission.
Draft day? lol..Raiders never fail to provide “OMG..He signed WHO??? ARE YOU FRIGGIN SERIOUS??”
Training camp? It’s almost enough material for a full 20 episode sitcom.
What’s not to like?
August 31st, 2009 at 12:03 pm
I agree with regards to Javon. I know they’re being cautious with him, but at some point prior to opening night, they have to cut him loose.
I have a feeling he can make Russell look real good this season.
It seems hes ready to come back and be productive, if not explosive.
What a story it would be to see him be a player in this league again after all the sh;t thats happened to him recently.
August 31st, 2009 at 12:03 pm
I think we should let Bryant try taking over Scotts place on rushing downs also he seems to have adequate quickness. Then kick him back inside on passing downs to allow Scott to rush the passer. They have to see Scott can not hold the edge. Also put Ricky Brown at SLB and let Morrison countinue at MLB. Brown is just to small. Alston sucks. Maybe with some experience Norris could be a option at SLB.

It sure seemed to me that during this summer, the Raiders prioritized attitude more than any other single factor. I hope it continues into next year and beyond the expected lockout the following year.
Cable bumaye this year, Raiders bumaye next year.

August 31st, 2009 at 12:07 pm
Richochet,
So I take it in the unlikely event the Raiders are a decent team, will u be snatching at straws or giving credit where credits due?
The team looks bad. Has for a while.
Its been bad before, and we’ve brought it out of the cellar. No reason we can’t do it again.
Hopefully your team will entertain you, as ours should only entertain us, and they can only do so when winning.
Its getting old being the butt of a joke and having guys like you rubbing it in. But, hey, thats football. If your team was getting being used to mop the floor, I’m sure I’d be laughing at their expense and yours as well.
Alls fair in love and football, or something corny like that.

I can safely say Lil Ricky is fast becoming one of my favorite little bloggers of all the newbies.
I even kind of like the fact that he’s wacked out on medication and still able to post – however disjointed. That takes dedication, a quality I demand in a follower. Don’t worry, dudes, he’s not in my Top 10 yet, but damn if he isn’t making the effort.
Anyway, looking forward to more of his frantic cut and pasting and incoherent ramblings as the season goes on. And it’s always enjoyable to see him go down in flames at the hands of the older dudes on the blog.
Keep it up, old timers – you still got it!
Speaking of old dudes, man I hope poor Krappy survived the night. Poor old goat was desperately trying to get everyone to read some lame link he found and posted it about a dozen times.
That’s about the number of lines Lil Ricky will snort at lunch to maintain minimal brain function.

Then again, Richochet, you sound like a classic Raider Hater. No respect for the team you hate, because you have no team of your own.
I’ll get roasted for this, but I respect the Broncos, Chiefs, and Chargers. Toss in the Steelers and Pats as well.
Doesn’t mean I have to like them. Considering our record against said teams recently, its hard not to respect them.

I have actually witnessed JV football teams make more contact and hit harder than those guys. They were actually arm tackling in the NFL. NO shoulder pads were required.

Lifer,
I agree about Bryant. I guess I should specify.
Hes not physically suited for the postition he currently plays.
That being said, Al & Co. play pass rushers at the DT spots these days, and in the current system, stands a good chance to be a better DT than any ahead of him on the depth chart.
At least hes got a motor.
Kelly is getting there, Warren shows up 40% of the time, and we all know how Sands plays.
Kelly continues to take the double teams and free up Bryant to get after the QB. About the only option we have cuz Brown is too small, Kirk doesn’t shed blocks (not that we’d blitz them anyhow), and Scott is just getting enveloped by O lines out there.
I’ll take quality play where and from whom I can get it.

Oaklifer you got that right dude! They can try to paint the picture any way they want. But I saw guys get to the runner and put their hands out to make a tackle and notput any pop!!! Into it. The hard contact is what breaks the opponents backs. No wonder runners can get 150 yards a half on us. We don’t give them enough migrane headaches and make their legs feel like jelly. I played aginst Tyrone Weatley in highschool and the only way you could beat him is to gang tackle like crazy and someone had to him hard and low because he was a high runner even in the pros. If not, guys who love the run and are fast will kill you! They smell the blood like a shark. You have to hit them hard from play 1. We need a d@mn hitter with heart!!!
August 31st, 2009 at 12:40 pm
We need a hitman out there. Branch needs to get mad enough to hit like he did in college!!! Mitchell needs to come back cracking pads as well. These guys don’t play mad enough for me on D!!!!
Ronnie Lott never would have taken this BS, he would have been doging these guys!!!!
August 31st, 2009 at 12:41 pm
My guess is we start out poorly and start to click, nuch too late, as was the case last year.
I was hoping to pick up where we left off, and thats still entirely possible, but I think we hit the reset button and won’t look righ until after the bye.
If this offense becomes dynamic, we can win even with srubs on D, or at least improve.
Arizona showed us last year, you can be a one-dimensional offense, lousy defense, win your division and play like hell in the postseason.
I want all these chumps in the media and football world in general to eat their words and have the Raiders feared and respected once again.
Winning that MNF opener would do us some real good. I mean like morally, spiritually, and mentally.
I think the lack of talent can be overcome with a winning attitude and the desire to win.
Another comment I’m sure to be roasted for, but F it. If we had 53 Rick Browns and Justin Fargases, we’d be in a lot better shape.
Not enough talent to win the SB, but enough heart to change our ways and get better.
August 31st, 2009 at 12:41 pm
Bryant is playing the 3 tech, which he is suited for but he can also play the 5 and I think they will actually play him there some to help with the run. He actually played very early in the Saints game so he is accending rapidly. I don’t know why we played as bad as we did Sat. but if they use the players they have better they should get better results.
August 31st, 2009 at 12:44 pm
why cut Cohen and keep Sands?
do they think Sands has trade value? LOL
give this Cohen kid a shot. what have we got to lose?
August 31st, 2009 at 12:44 pm
Our LBs are soft as spreaded cream cheese. They like they are a bunch of d@mn over weight corners out there playing LB. I wish Cable would please tell them that their job is to get up in the hole square and make a tackle. None of them deserve credit for always making tackles 2 yards plus behind their line of scrimage.
August 31st, 2009 at 12:50 pm
Ya, we have a bunch of super-quick, undersized LBs who can’t hit, wrap, or penetrate.
They’d probably be pretty damn good in coverage (See: Howard, Thomas) if the DLine got penetration.
Even Tom Brady very recently said the style of D the Raiders play (4 man front with man coverage on the outside, saftey playing over the top) is the scariest.
Al’s philosophy still translates. Othe r teams play that kind of D.
Difference is they have players, not just athletes.
Forget coaching, forget philosophy. I have really been looking at this carefully lately, and I feel its personel.
I think Cable will dump the scholarship system (with perhaps a few exceptions) and play his best players where they’re the most productive. Problem is, he doesn’t have a whole lot to choose from.

Any football player that parties before a game, or parties at all during the season is not serious about the game.
Any one that quits during a game is not serious nor do i consider that person a football player.
team is not hard, it is super soft, like a softy cone…

Thec,
you know I respect your opinion brother….But Stabler would disagree as I do to this statement..
“Any football player that parties before a game, or parties at all during the season is not serious about the game.”
Back then They loved the game they played thats why they could party and still win games ….now days kids hold out for contracts and sign shoe deals its not about the football any more its about the money and staus qou these “kids” just cant handle it…..
August 31st, 2009 at 1:01 pm
Thec, I think we got some players on this team.
McFadden
Fargas
Z. Miller
Gallery
Murphy
Nnamdi
the Law Firm
Ellis
CJ
and possibly Bryant.
I know hes a rookie FA with 0 pro playing time, but hes got a motor and looks like he gives a sh;t, which is more than I can say for the rest of the roster not mentioned here.
Others that are coming along and could or will be players
Myers
Russell
Bush
DHB
Scott
Branch
Honorable mention to Ricky Brown cause he plays hard without much talent.
Notice a lack of DLine players mentioned?
August 31st, 2009 at 1:02 pm
Oaklifer,
What up Bro??????? reason why i say only 1 Greg Ellis, no one says anything about taking care of yourself during the season. Ellis has been on the team a couple of months. How come Kirk, Justin, or namdi ever said anything?????

Last I recall, I suggested a discounted Hooked on Phonics edition for you. After that I saw mumbo jumbo.
I must have missed the day in school when mumbo jumbo was discussed.
Apparently that’s the only day you showed up.
Let me guess? Bus pass expired?

Richochet,
So I take it in the unlikely event the Raiders are a decent team, will u be snatching at straws or giving credit where credits due?
The team looks bad. Has for a while.
Its been bad before, and we’ve brought it out of the cellar. No reason we can’t do it again.
Hopefully your team will entertain you, as ours should only entertain us, and they can only do so when winning.
Its getting old being the butt of a joke and having guys like you rubbing it in. But, hey, thats football. If your team was getting being used to mop the floor, I’m sure I’d be laughing at their expense and yours as well.
Alls fair in love and football, or something corny like that.
————–
You are right.
It is football.
Can’t take the heat, grab your purse and go shopping.
Or at least that seems to be the mantra of the meek, weak, and defenseless that seems to permeate this board…the Oakglens, Az, Beechbitch, etc..
Nothing like seeing a football fan throw a hissyfit..you know?

Maybe we should ask the Seahawks to play patty-cake with us instead of tackle football during the 4th preseason game so that we can get back to basics?
=====================
Brings to mind the first week of raider camp, where Cable had everyone rolling their eyes as he had players “partially” go through plays, over and over and over, as if the kindergarten class would now remember which exact line to stand in when the bell rings.
Obviously someone moved the line.
In that regard, Seahawks might oblige a “walk though” game..where you get “do overs”?
Where Russell gets to throw the ball, over and over and over, hoping Bey catches one?
Hey?? Maybe they’ll back off, and let JR just throw to Bey..until he catches one, while they encourage him on the sidelines.
I think you’re on to something here.
August 31st, 2009 at 1:12 pm
Thec, regarding the partying thing, you’re absolutely right. It was a different game back when Stabler and those guys got smashed into the wee hours of the morning on nights before games. Players are in much better shape today, much faster and stronger. And, the game is a lot more mental now. More plays, more complexities to schemes, etc, things you have to memorize. You just can’t be hungover and trying to perform in today’s NFL. The time for partying has been minimized. They still do it, even the best players and the best teams. But not on eves of games. Not anymore.

I’ll get roasted for this, but I respect the Broncos, Chiefs, and Chargers. Toss in the Steelers and Pats as well.
Doesn’t mean I have to like them. Considering our record against said teams recently, its hard not to respect them.
=============================
Then again? THEN AGAIN? Oh geez..another “sharp” raider poster. What? Little light bulb went off after you posted the first “let’s be pals” post?
I’m not a “classic” Raider hater.

in perspective …
the teams that could have their way with us on the schedule…
the steelers o-line and defense
the ravens defense
the new york city giants oline and d-line
the redskins d-line
the eagles defense
the jets run game and their blitzing defense
the chargers could but i think we’ll be up for both games, they always pound us in the end.
the bengals will be interesting .
other than that i think we’ll have some good battles.
we are just 2 dominating dt’s and a dominating right side of the o-line including center fom being a power in the nfl.

‘Then again’ is a great politician answer. You don’t like it, don’t read the post.
With regards to the partying issue….
I don’t think its partying, it the lack of commitment.
Fargas goes out and parties hard, but is arguably the hardest worker and plays the hardest.
The Raiders used to be weed-smokin, womanizing drunk baddasses who left it all in the parking lot and played like hell on Sunday.
Now, the Raiders are weed-smokin, womanizing drunk canyasses who do it all in the parking lot (possibly minutes before kickoff the way they played v. NO) and play like sh*t on Sunday.
Party hard, play hard.
Theres a different breed of player in today’s league (bigger, faster, better conditioned), but to think that guys on succesful teams don’t party is just naive. They’re young, popular guys with a whole sh*tload of money.

Well, I was in a remote part of Oklahoma for a funeral this weekend. I just now saw Saturday’s disaster. Wow. It looked like 11 guys who can play football and 11 guys who can’t play football for three hours.
I wanted to feel a lot worse about this season after that. But then I realized that they can fix this quickly if they can just find some OLs, DEs, DTs, LBs, Ss, WRs, and a QB worth a sh!t. Seems like that shouldn’t be too hard to do in two weeks time.
August 31st, 2009 at 1:36 pm
For those of you who are out of area, justin.tv is the free way to get all those games.
Also, when blacked out in the Oakland area (or the Raider game is dumped in favor of a better AFC team by week 3 in the LA area), you may be able to find the CBS broadcast anyway, as someone in the other team’s area is sure to stream it.

I’m interested to see player reaction this week in practice.
Hopefully, Cable is implementing Wildcat offense, getting McFadden lined up all over the field, Bush in between the tackles and Russell to Miller, Russell to Myers, Russell to whatever WR steps up all day.
I agree with SnB that, thus far, DHB is dissapointing. Give the kid the ball. Plain and simple. Test him.

“Better late than never on Gailey ouster”
Posted by ESPN.com’s Bill Williamson
http://espn.go.com/blog/afcwest/post/_/id/3152/better-late-than-never-on-gailey-ouster
Really, the only surprise about Chan Gailey’s ouster as the offensive coordinator in Kansas City is that it took this long.
I was shocked Gailey was retained when Todd Haley took over as head coach for Herm Edwards at the end of last season. Haley is known as an aggressive coach whose offense in Arizona was explosive. Gailey is much more conservative and he was often criticized for the non-attacking style he used in Kansas City.

You cannot party like they did in the 70’s. To me the 1976 Raiders were the best team ever in football. They stepped on the field you KNEW they were going to knock someone out, be tougher and meaner, flatout kicka$$ and at the end of each game wind up victorious.
Now the QB has to be damn near a brainiac, which is why it is the toughest position in sports.

I understand your argument and don’t neccecarily disagree with it.
But if Rick Williams can blow a blunt during the season and still perform the way he did, more power to him.
I think rather than a suspension, the guy get recognition.
Forget that it treats nausea, minor aches and pains, headaches, upset stomach, etc.
If Ricky was puffin the cheeba and running like that, how could the stuff be banned (well,um other than that its illegal). In an age of performance enhancing drugs so commonplace, this guy was smokin stuff which is the exact opposite of performance enhancing and more like ‘taste and color and hunger enhancing’ and performing at a high level.
I guess my point is, yes, its best to be clean and discipline in today’s NFL.
But, what really counts is what you do ON the field, not OFF.

What’s disheartnening to me, is that so many so-called fans, particulairly those who idolize Al Davis, really don’t care if the Raiders win or not. All they care about is Al Davis.
The Raiders are 24-72 over the last 6 years, 6 winning seasons in the last 20 years, still getting gouged on the ground. NFL players say this is the worst Organization in the game.
http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/article/125013
And certain posters insist all is well, that we’re just stupid fans, don’t know what we’re looking at, the coaches no better, blah, blah, blah.
Folks, problems have to be faced, addressed, and solved. Sweeping them under the rug, is a disservice to all of us who care about the Raiders. The Fans and, Players and the great legacy of teams past.

***************************************************
LA – Great post man.
I’ve been saying that about Justin Fargas for 3 years. I know it sounds corny as hell, but, that dude is “Rocky” and “Rudy” in real life.
But, contrary to popular opinion, I think he’s got plenty of talent. Even today, he’s in the top-15 in terms of speed when compared to other starting tailbacks. And his lack of touchdowns have everything to do with bad O-Line play in the red-zone, and nothing to do with lack of talent.
The guy basically gained 1000 yards in only a half-season, a couple of years ago. And everything he’s done in his career to date, has been done behind atrocious offensive-line play. He’s a freakin’ Kamikaze and I love that!!!
Fargas is all heart and he holds onto the ball a hell of a lot more securely than D-Mac & Bush. I’m thrilled that we have both those guys as well, but, as you said. . . .
Fill up my starting line-up with a bunch of Fargas’s and I’ll be in the playoffs every single year.
Go Raiders!
August 31st, 2009 at 2:54 pm
Kell, I doubt there are as many Davis Worshipers as you think.
I’m Davis’ biggest advocate, but I’m realistic.
Any success we’ve had, its because of Davis, directly or indirectly.
Any failure (after ‘63) we’ve had, its because of Davis, directly or indirectly.
I think your average Raider fan appreciates the history of the team, thankful for what Al did 30 years ago, and hates his guts and wants him to step down (or worse, which is bit disturbing).
For the most part, you’re preaching to the choir. It seems rather than talk about current Raider football, you’d have u simply blog all day about how sh*tty Al Davis is and how we need need a new GM.
As long as Al is cognisant (no jokes, please), he runs the show.
I’ll keep watching and I have a feeling so will you. MR said a while ago if you’re a true fan, you’d boycott all the games. Whereas I don’t agree with that in the least, it sounds like something you may want to look into.

Ya, Fargas runs hard and takes a lot of unearned criticism.
Honestly, I’d prefer Bush as our every-down back because I think the guy is a beast, and versatile. Getting better in pass protection only makes him more appealing.
But let it be known that I have a great deal of respect for Fargas. He runs hard, with no regard for his body.
Farglass or whatever, the guys a player. I’d imagine if he ran like Cornell green blocked, he’d be a lot healthier throughout the season.
eventually, he should be phased out in favor of McBush, but if I’m the coach, I take a long look at Fargas, which is exactly what coaches have been doing.
If someone proves they can outplay him, go ahead. I think Bush did a lot to prove that in the Tampa game.
I respect Brien a great deal, but disagree with his notion that we can’t have 3 solid backs, that we need a scat back/change of pace guy as our 3rd option.
Well then keep Nick Miller on the roster.
we have the best of all worlds.
Fargas – straight ahead, one cut runner who has no regard for his own body. A Raider.
DMC – quick, outside the tackles explosive back who can be lined up anywhere and catch
Bush – a hybrid of the two and an everydown candidate.
Nick Miller – our change of pace guy. A little WR built like rock who can (according to Jerry) apparently take snaps at RB.

Oh good lord Krappy -
After posting your lame little link all night last night, you’re starting up again with it today? What, you don’t have enough to worry about with getting your old head out of the microwave?
First of all, you old goat, do you really think you’re going to organize a fan upheaval with a few bloggers clicking on a link? I know you have these delusional ideas that you’re a world traveler and an owner of real estate, but you definitely can’t take down Al Davis with an article from something called “Spots Business Daily”.
But more importantly, did you survive the game on Saturday without dropping an historically large dump in your trousers? I lectured your grandson Brian the Genital about what cautionary measures to take if this were to occur.
Hopefully that little dickens bought enough clothes pins for everyone’s noses in your section.
Fingers crossed.

I’m guessing playing Scott against run just so he improves knowing that Jay Rich and Ellis will start at Ends come regular season. Bryant will earn some time at End as well. Morrison will help. Mitchell needs to get healthy, improve, start sh@$ w/ other teams, and replace Eugene

Coach Cable on DHB:
…Cable singled out Darrius Heyward-Bey for his ability to draw double teams quite often. Heyward-Bey caught only one pass Saturday, but he received double coverage on a deep throw down the right sideline and on a handful of other plays.
“Well, it’s already happening,” Cable said. “I said this would happen earlier. They’re already starting to lean towards him in coverage, so it’s going to help everyone else and, obviously, that’s why those other guys were getting the opportunities they were getting.”

Now, let hope some of you bums get the picture.

Damn glad we got ellis on the team to call out our sorry ass performance. I love it that he said he came to Oakland to help get us a superbowl. Now if only the rest of our roster started having that attitude

LA to TheBay:
I like Michael Bush, but, I’m not completely sold on him as my starting back.
I’ve just never been a huge fan of really “Big” backs. I know there have been some good ones in the past (Jerome Bettis, Barry Word, etc.), but, I tend to think that these guys are basically fullbacks playing out of position.
They just don’t possess enough speed in my opinion. If they don’t get great blocking, they generally don’t have the quickness to make a darting move and break into the open field. And sometimes, you need that.
I’m being a bit hypocritical in saying that because I actually believe the 3 & 4 yard runs throughout a football game mean more than the occasional 60 yard burst.
I personally like to throw Bush into the mix in the 4th quarter to preserve a lead. I’m not convinced he’s an every-down guy for 16 games.
But, like I said, I could be totally wrong about that.

And call me crazy, but, I’m predicting that Javon Walker will have a 1200 yard season this year.

I really hope our scouts are lined up outside of the NY Giants’ complex, in their sleeping bags, in the event that the G-men release ANY of their defensive lineman.
That team is a factory for D-linemen. . . .the way we used to be in the 80’s (a.k.a. Long, Pickel, Townsend, Scott Davis, Alzado, Mike Wise, just to name a few)

Who, besides ellis has stepped up and said anything worth saying? What about our “leader” JRUSS WTF has he said? It is an embarrassment? Yeah i see an embarrassment you coming in overweight out of shape not ready to play 65 million dollar football…..
Hey JRUSS news flash this team is going to follow you. Problem is you are not ready or mature enough to handle it.

Thec07,
Why does J-Russ have to say ANYTHING? Words are cheap man.
Just go out and play great on Sundays and that speaks loud and clear. And he’s started to do that. Joe Montana wasn’t out there yappin’ it up during the week. But tell me a guy who was more clutch and demanded more respected that that dude. Do you see Namdi yappin’ it up? No.
J-Russ just needs to keep getting better with time. And he’s doing that. I don’t give a rat’s ass how many fur coats he owns or what his Mohawk looks like.
Just play hard and produce on Sundays and that’s all I can ask for as a fan.

Defensive Leaders need to step up and be accountable and vocal about the D. QB start raggin on the D and thats how u split a locker room. Work in progress he is just 23.

I think that teams that rely on guys “talkin” through the media are usually bad ones.
We don’t need guys “talking”.
We need guys who simply play on sundays when it counts.
And it starts to count on September 14th.

Ok.
So its about actions right. So JRUSS coming into camp overweight, and out of shape?
JRUSS should be in 65 million dollar shape, good example set by our “leader”.
