Familiar faces among cuts

Share

A few names to keep in mind as some NFL teams begin whittling away at their rosters (the Raiders are no doubt doing it as well, but usually hold on to all information until the last possible second and beyond):

OLB Bruce Davis_Cut by the Steelers, Davis was a third-round draft pick in 2008 who had more than 25 sacks in his junior and senior years at UCLA. His dad happens to be former Raiders offensive tackle Bruce Davis (1979-87). Al Davis has signed legacies before (Grant Irons, son of Gerald Irons, Kevin Smith, son of Charlie Smith).

C Melvin Fowler_Cut by Arizona, Fowler visited the Raiders around the same time as Charlie Frye and before Samson Satele was acquired by trade from Miami. Chris Morris was the surprise starter against Seattle, Satele is struggling and John Wade has missed considerable time with a stinger.

OT Damion McIntosh_Cut by Kansas City, McIntosh, once-upon-a-time, agreed on a contract with the Raiders. Before it was announced, he took a physical _ and failed. McIntosh signed with Miami, where he passed the physical, and has started 74 games in the last four seasons. He has 111 career starts.

C-G Sean Mahan_Cut by Tampa Bay, the National Football Post reports he will visit the Raiders. Mahan can play center or guard. He had no starts in 15 games with the Bucs last year, but started 16 games for Pittsburgh in 2007. He started Tampa Bay’s first two preseason games before being cut.

The Post Thursday night also reported a possible visit and signing from DL Alfonso Boone.

Guessing they’ll pass on Andrew Walter, cut by the Patriots.

Out for the night guys, 11:19 here and have to be into work at 07:00 tomorrow, catch ya’s later, Nation!

  • maybe i just should go to bed… my GF thinks so =) but what the hell does she know… its only 0520 here =) LOL

  • Richard Bentley

So much for Walter’s new “opportunity”.

  • The Patriots only have 2 QB’s after cutting Andrew Walter.

    That tells me 2 things:

    1. Walter sucks so bad that the Pats are willing to enter the season thin at QB just to get Walter out of the building.

    2. The Patriots are waiting to scoop up whatever QB the Raiders cut, with their fingers crossed for Garcia.

  • Richochet

    You’re nuts.
    Garcia??

When Garcia was released by TB, he sat, with no sniffs from anyone.
    Well, except Al, of course.

LAST qb NE picks up is Garcia.

  • Ricochet

I’m nuts? I guess that’s better than stupid. The reason he didn’t sign with anyone was because he insisted on being a starter. No sniffs from anyone?Shows how much you know or remember from mere months ago. Maybe stop smoking so much weed, you memory will come back eventually.

I may be wrong about Garcia, but I guarantee you that the Pats DO NOT go into the season with 2 qb’s and it would not suprise me if it was one of the qb’s the Raiders cut.

I just remebered who Ricochet is and I can’t believe I am even interacting with a known moron. This is the person that talks out of his ass and makes things up to suit his argument like “Cable said that he flipped Hansen over in his chair” and then back tracked when confronted by saying “well I never confirmed that Cable actually said that”.

Don’t expect any more responses from me IDIOT.

    75 That is so optimistic!

I mean, I want to believe you, but what I see is 4-12 effort by a bunch of guys just picking up a paycheck.
    …………
LOL. I went out on a limb and made this prediction BEFORE the preseason.

I would be wrong to go back now. Will just have to suck it up if it doesn’t pan out.

I am sure there will be plenty of people in here to let me know how stupid I am, but at least I don’t waffle.

If we cut Fargas and blitz on defense, we might win a few games this season.

  • KD

Why are people so down on Fargas, he runs like a savage. He is faster than Bush and can break tackles way better than D-Mac. I’m a lot more frustrated with Marshall…that idiot keeps dropping our DT’s back in coverage. WTF!!!

  • KD

And our DT’s are pushing the o-line back, its our lLB’s that can’t get to the ball, we are in serious trouble with our run-d again.

  • Teams that we should look at thier cuts:
    Steelers
    Ravens
    Vikings
    Giants
    Titans

We need Dline help, and a true MLB.

  • KD

Eagles are deep at DE…we should watch them as well

  • Eagles wanted to trade for Burgess, so no thank you!

Did any of you guys catch the Team Value Breakdown which was posted on ESPN and also various newspapers:

The top team was, of course, The Dallas Cowboys, valued at 1.6 Billion dollars. Nice going Jerry Jones, you’re an excellent business man, you have increased your teams value more than a “billion-dollars” since you bought the team.

The lowest valued team, at number 32, is: The Oakland Raiders, of course. They’re valued at 700,000 million.
The article also stated that the Raiders lost 12% in value in 2008 and that they have lost another 7% value in 2009 and still dropping. Nice going Al Davis, you have managed to drop your franchise to the bottom of the heap.
Maybe you should take value in yourself, Mr. Davis, and get “the hell out of Dodge, you freaking idiot.”

  • Al Davis doesn’t have a graceful bone in his body.

  • On the beach in Cancun

    KD post #164:

The reason Marshall is dropping linemen into coverage and thus removing any threat of pressure is BECAUSE OF AL DAVIS. You should have learned that ages ago. Davis runs the defensive schemes and our defensive coordinators are people who obey. Fzck Stick, Rob Ryan, played the Davis game and he collected checks for six freaking years. Marshall is old and dried up. Where else can he get a job. He’ll do what Davis wants and Davis doesn’t like to blitz. PERIOD.

The reason the Dallas Cowboys are valued that highly, is because they have a brand new yard. Of course, that yard did not come free. There is debt on that yard, that goes to the Dallas Cowboys. I might have a worth of $100mm. But if I owe $20mm I’m twenty mil in the hole. Tell me how much the Dallas Cowboys are worth as an asset without their debt.

    ……………..

This is just pathetic. Al needs to go.

  • Here, let’s do this again. The cowboys are valued at $1.6b, but either that means they are valued at $3.2 billion minus their $1.6B crib, or they’re broke. Well, they are NOT valued at $3.2B, that I can tell you. And the funny thing about Dallas is their ticket prices in their new crib are $400-500 per seat PER GAME, for some of the decent seats. What that means is they have to win, RIGHT NOW! And in my estimation, they are behind Philly and NYG, in their own DIVISION, more or less in the NFL.
Now let’s be honest, the new Dallas crib is swank! But unless they win it all, RIGHT NOW, They are broke!

  • On the beach in Cancun

All I really know is that I’m tired of losing and I’m tired of watching the preseason and some league games on the stupid dirt infield. That’s really sucks, and if the A’s last into the playoffs, we’re forced to see even more games on that crap. That pathetic.

  • Nnamdi21

Oakland has some of the most die hard fans of any franchise and I KNOW we buy merch to show our alegiance. Raider gear sells all over the world. If we’re broekty broke maybe we should start kicking these boys azzes and making them out play our opponents.

    Lets see the EFFORT!!!

  • On the beach in Cancun

Good nite guys. Everything this year will hinge on our opener with the dischargers. How we’re going to stop the run is beyond my imagination. And, I expect no pressure from us because Al Davis doesn’t like to blitz. But, worst than that is when he only rushes (3) stinking guys. That sucks beyond all sucking. I’ve even see the dude (Rob Ryan through instructions from Al Davis, I’m sure) just rush two guys and drop back two linemen. That’s entering the gateway to hell. Hell, maybe that is hell?

Again, you DON’T have the most diehard fans.
You have the WORST FAN BASE IN THE NFL, bar none.

    READ IT SLOWLY..BAR NONE.

No other team has had more blackouts in the last 10 years than the Raiders have..AND THE RAIDERS HAVE THE SECOND SMALLEST STADIUM IN THE LEAGUE..which means you should be able to sell out easier.

And most teams sell all over the world.
In Rome I saw Cowboy, GB, Niners, Dolphin jerseys…in London pretty much saw almost every team at one point or another.

    Damn, you’re an idiot.

Point is Al has driven the Raiders into the ground, and you want to instead wonder how much the Cowboys are really worth?
Well, fool, let’s see if your little brain can grasp this.
First off the Cowboy’s aren’t paying for it all..NFL put in 300 mil. tons of taxes on everything…900 plus million from Arlington..but regardless..it’s not a lost leader. The value of the stadium remains.

Besides, the value of the franchise does NOT include a stadium, nitwit.

Al Davis is the only person to have served pro football in such varied capacities as (1) a player personnel assistant, (2) an assistant coach, (3) a head coach, (4) a general manager, (5) a league commissioner and (6) the principal owner and chief executive officer of an NFL team.

Honestly it will be tough to remove Al Davis.

  • Nnamdi21

How about just getting behind his scheme and making his players tow the fukin line?

Lotta money be shovled their way. Davis needs to figure out the days of letting boys be boys is over with. These fukin as-sholes need fukin babsitters now days.

    You should read up first.
Been proven a LONG time ago, and many times through the years, including in ’02 that most people who buy Raider shirts and such aren’t football fans..they like the colors..the silly pirates.

Yes, yes, I know..burst your little bubble..but hey, my money says some of YOU posters first bought your first Raider shirt because you thought it made you a badass (It didn’t..you still got beat up by the girls).

Local channels (bay area 2 and 5) did polls at two different malls..asking people who were wearing raider gear who the qb was. ONE out of ten knew it was Gannon.
NONE OF THE PEOPLE ASKED knew the Raiders were on tv, at that very moment.

sorry buffy, but merchandise doesn’t mean they give a squat about football…

First off you can’t remove Al. Impossible.

And yeah, he did all that..and also now has tarnished ALL OF THAT by refusing to accept that he NEEDS HELP.

Can a single person here state he doesn’t need help?

No one will tell him that, no one dares.

See, stubborn people? Really stubborn people? They grow up to be old, stubborn people. A lot of old stubborn people, in some type of power, has made some really dumb decisions that have been costly.
In this case, only costly to the organization, and the fans, but none the less, costly.

A GM’s job is full time…and Al thinks he can do it, on a whim.

  • # 860Todd Christensen Says:

Al thinks we can outscore them to win, that’s why we got Walker. Al has never made it a secret that on 1’st and, or 2nd and, that his team will put up 7 in the first 30 seconds of a game. That really takes an opponents energy away, fighting uphill all game.

    ……

And that strategy has worked so fuqqin well the past 6 years. Thank god we ditched that old Gruden strategy of building drives. Oh, those days were horrible. Winning, going to the playoffs… screw that.

    …….

Al Davis is not the CEO of the Raiders, and never was. Al Davis couldn’t run a lemonade stand, let alone an NFL franchise. Amy Trask has been the CEO for some time.

Al was never a general manager, either. Until he has the balls to pony up and call himself one, I refuse to call him one, either. He pretends he doesn’t have one, that way he can deflect blame when the team loses, while also take credit when the team wins, because there’s no GM there to credit! During our last good run, Bruce Allen was our GM. Al Davis was nothing more than a meddlesome principal owner.

What the hell is a player personnel assistant? That sounds like something one notch above jock strap collector.

    Fuq Al Davis.
