Joseph absent, practice squad forming

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, September 6th, 2009 at 1:19 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Defensive tackle William Joseph was not present for stretching and preliminary drill work with the defensive line, indicating he may be the victim following the trade for the Patriots Richard Seymour.

The Raiders have not announced any transactions, either on their Web page or through their Twitter account.

Among the players who appear to have resurfaced in the practice squad include linebacker Slade Norris, a fourth-round pick. Also back are defensive end Greyson Gunheim, wide receiver Jonathan Holland, linebacker David Nixon and safety Jerome Boyd.

There was also a No. 45 who may or may not be fullback Marcel Reece.

Injured players who were not present as practice began included linebacker Isaiah Ekejiuba, wide receiver Chaz Schilens and running back Justin Fargas.

Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha was practicing with his left wrist in a soft cast, Kirk Morrison with his left elbow in a brace. Also on the field were strong safety Mike Mitchell and tackle Khalif Barnes.

Punter Shane Lechler, who missed the final preseason game with a groin strain, was taking part in kicking drills.

A major upgrade over Mr. Joseph’s contribution, what Joseph did in six seasons, Richard did more in last 2 years (15 & 9 game seasons).

Whats up Nation. Let’s see….R. Seymour to the Raiders TODAY, for….Somebody in 2011.

    Sign Me up.

Glad to see Rankin made the roster, REALLY glad to see a 39yr old QB get cut in favor of 2 others that outplayed Him.

If we can pull a run stuffing MLB out of our arse, I think we can have a Defense that will make it happen.

I read an interesting comment about the value of the trade…

Last year, the Vikings traded a 1st and two 3rd round picks for Jared Allen.

This year, we traded one 1st round pick (2 years from now) for Richard Seymour.

    We did ok.

All in all, here’s the balance our our dealings with the pats…

New England gets: Derrick Burguess and the Raiders 1st round pick in 2011.

Raiders get: Richard Seymour and the Pats 3rd round pick in 2010 and fifth in 2011.

    I don’t have a problem with it.

Maybe so but for now Shuaghnessy will nto start over Scott until further notice. We do need a MLB as well as more physical LBs but the best three we have are Howard,Morrison and Brown.

Yes Khalif needs to get well in a hurry. Green is the worse player on the roster outside of Farglass

  30. 1960AutumnWind Says:

Just a thought could it be a win win trade. I mean NE had a glut of DEs and we had a dearth so we both get something good out of the deal. Are we becoming friends with NE??? They bailed us out of the Randy Moss fiasco and they got a win as well. Then they bailed us out of the Burgess probelm and gave us some decent value. Now they gave us a shot at a really good but aging player. Just a thought

He will play both as Marshall shifts positions during QB’s cadence to gain match up advantage. This trade is a compliment and helping hand to our new DC. He needed one because we still are hurting on run defense. Don’t untrain bad habits overnight.

  36. CaptainBlack Says:

Brien, good posts. I would like the Raiders to sign Pollard cut by the Chiefs. I thought he was a banger and would be excellent on special teams

  37. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Autumnwind, if Al Davis doesn’t meddle, what does he do? Give us a run down of what Al Davis does in regards to football operations?

  38. Dakota Says:

Hey, if this somehow takes Scott of the field, then we are already 100% better against the run than we were yesterday at this time.

2011 1st round pick…ouch, but if Seymour can stay healthy and play at a high level for four or five more years then well worth it.

  39. JB Says:

    Dakota,

We have two major needs on the D-line – RDT & RDE. If Bryant can step up big time I can see him starting next to Kelly and then using Seymore at RDE. If Bryant doesn’t come on strong quickly, I see Seymore next to Kelly at RDT and then, like I said on an earlier post, Shaughnessy at RDE. Scott won’t be at RDE on running downs because he can’t stop the run whereas Shaughnessy can.

  40. RaiderRon Says:

Nothing like giving up a top 10 pick for a rental player! I mean this team is just one player away from a contender. LOL! Why am I even surprised????

Wow. Barnes is already back on the field? I thought he was out till Week 2 or 3.

Joseph didn’t deserve to get cut. He played great this preseason. I thought he finally turned the corner and could push Kelly and Warren for a starting spot.

  47. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Exactly, RaiderRon. The Seymour trade is a glass of water on a house fire.

  48. Bob Marley Says:

    Dakota

That’s the best part about Seymour, at 6′6 310 he can play inside and outside, he’s made the Pro Bowl as DT and DE and he can be moved around looking for the best match up.

He only comes off the field for rest, not because it’s a rushing or passing down, he’s good at both, as opposed to a big NT or a pass-rushing specialist who need to be replaced depending on down and distance.

That being said, I’m not sure where will he start, right now I’d say RDE, that’s our biggest weakness…and he’ll help out Warren a lot, Kelly and Ellis can stay on the left side.

  49. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Autumnwind, you still here? You said Al Davis doesn’t meddle. What does he do? Why do you always see people saying “if Al does this”, “if Al does that”, what are they talking about? Al doesn’t meddle, right? Give me a breakdown as to what Al Davis’s role with the team is.

  60. 1960AutumnWind Says:

    MR

I am not there but based on past reports over the years AD screws with coaches by direct probably unwelcomed second guessing often times done directly with players. Like they say he is a players owner.

He undermines coaches by directly interacting with
coordinators and assistants at times and creating confusion. He often will not allow head coaches to hire/fire their own staff. However, if someone is winning he backs off as in the Gruden years. He will tend to meddle less if he is dealing with someone he respects even if he may not agree with them at times. He is an arrogant and proud man that does not realize that his coaches are working 70+ hours a week and are putting things together as a package and meddling can undo everything.

Having said all this he was once a position coach, a head coach, an owner and a league commissioner. He knows a lot about football and that causes him to hold on to tight and not delegate enough. I have been following the Raiders since childhood and this depiction I think is accurate but I do not think he calls in plays or calls down and tells them to do bump and run etc… His influnce is a little less direct than that. Also I do not believe that Warren Sapp is a reliable source….

Merriman, 25, was taken into custody by deputies who responded to a distress call at his home in Poway, north of San Diego.

Tequila, whose real name is Tila Nguyen, is best known for her MTV dating reality show, “A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila.”

I would like to see Seymour play DE instead of Scott. He is big for a 4-3 DE, but Kelly played DE too and is about the same size. Mario Williams play DE too and he is about 295 too. Let Scott as a pass rusher.

  67. DT42 Says:

    repost:
when people complain and have good points its no big deal but people are complaining about the Raiders picking up a veteran presence, a pro bowl player and someone who picked up 8 sacks from a 3-4 DE position? oh and was a key part of a defense that has shut down the run for years? i can only imagine you guys at your kids little league football games. I can see you standing behind the coach screaming “your calling the wrong plays!” as your kid leaps off the bench to cheer another touchdown. This deal makes sense for a lot of reasons.
    1. Seymour is a proven talent. He’s a pro-bowl talent at both the DT and the DE position. he made 52 tackles last year his best year since ‘03 and his highest sack total in his career.
    2. He makes other teams account for him and that should free up the other lineman and linebackers to make plays.
    3. He lets potential future FA’s know that the Raiders are serious about winning regardless of what ESPN says. The Raiders saw a need and made a move to fix it.
    4. If that pick does end up being a top 10 pick do we really want to pay another unproven rookie some huge amount of $$ (see M. Huff, who at the time was a consensus “future pro-bowler” or a rookie who pulls a Crabtree). And we can still move up and pick for need.

It’s a good move and a major upgrade from last year.

  68. Brien the General Says:

Dakota…….Warren will never be acceptable. Seymour starts next to Kelly if the Raiders are smart

  69. El Tato Says:

Good to see Holland, Norris and Boyd in the PS. I hope 45 is Reece too.

  70. JB Says:

Brien, you are right about the LB positions – especially MLB. Historically, AD doesn’t like LB’s at high draft positions. Maybe next year will be different. Remember, AD doesn’t have all that many sunsets left and he desperately wants to win the big one once again before he checks out. If our main need is for a MLB he may just go for it in the draft or more likely trade for someone who’s proven talent. I don’t see AD planning out for more that 2 or 3 years. Just my observation.

  71. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Ghost2thepost, we’ve been talking about Meriman all day. I don’t think he’ll be suspended for our game. If anything, Goodell will slap him on the wrist for merely hanging out with a crazy woman like Tila.

  72. RaiderRon Says:

Al Davis would use the franchise tag or throw big money at a guy like Seymore. Decisions like that are why this team is where it is today. Patriots wanted no part of it but Al Davis does.Hmmmmm… wonder whos right??

  73. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

And, Autumwind, as I asked you earlier, is it just a coincidence that all of our defensive coordinators wind up using man coverage and little blitzing? Poor old Al. The run defense still suffered when Kelly was the RDE. Using Mario Williams isnt a good example because he is a freak of nature and gets double digit sacks. Seymour at DE isnt a good IMO. Warren would still be starting. That is the main problem outside of Al’s scheme. Let’s pray that Marshall is playing coy and that Seymour’s arrival makes the defense more versatile

I can only go by little bits and pieces of what coaches have said over the years as well as some players. Except for WS no one over the years with eye witness knowledge has said AD directly calls in plays. Frankly I think we are in more agreement than not here because we both agree he meddles it is just how specifically and directly he meddles. Also if it is his team and he owns it how much is “meddling” ?? or how much is legit coming in.

I think we can both agree that since Gruden he has made horrendous decisions with coaches and he has not done enough to make Oakland a desirable place to play or coach.

Anytime you add a player with Credibility/History, Pro Bowls etc…It’s an immediate “juice” to entire morale and outlook of the Team.

Al Davis puts on entertaining press conferences, that’s for sure. But the man simply does not win on the football field anymore. Which makes his antics like last years’ press conference nothing more than a desperate side show.

  93. 1960AutumnWind Says:

    MR

We end up with man coverage and blitzing because that is the type of coor we have been hiring such as Shaw etc… Ryan was just an idiot. I would have meddled with him myself! Remember when he first came he tried to put a large DE as a linebacker as well as another that had no businees being DEs. The whole 3-4 experiment was a joke. Then he went on and in 06 was the 3rd rated def. but teams whould not throw on us because they usually did not have to and had leads because our offense was so bad. Every year the run defense has been horrible with that guy. AD in allowing Cable to hire Marshall has allowed a DC with a different philosphy. We are in new territory here with the defense. It is like when Gruden or the old Denver coach was here and was instituting the 49ner West Coast Offense. It was a big departure.

  94. Dakota Says:

“Richard Seymour discussed the possibility of playing the 4-3. Seymour once compared playing the defensive line in the 3-4 to watching paint dry. “I get excited anytime there are more big guys on the defensive line, ” he said.”

I was hoping the Pats would throw Wilfork into the trade as well for an extra 5th rounder

    ……….

Why would they do that? Wilfork can still play. The reason why the Pats make all of these trades with the Raiders is because Al Davis is the only GM in the league dumb enough to give away valuable players and draft picks for shyt. Belichick butters Davis up on camera telling him how he admires him and everything, then offers over the hill players for first round draft picks. Hook, line, and sinker.

  104. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Now you admit AD meddles, Autumnwind, hence, saying he only meddled less with Gruden. You’re unreal.

We will see this year with Marshall. At Seattle at times he blitzes a lot when the match ups are right. 108. Brien the General Says:

Shaughnessy is not starting Jhill. Trevor Scott will be until further notice

  109. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

We’ll find out this season why Seymour was traded, Brien. If you don’t think Bill Belichick plays Al Davis like a fool year after year, you’re in denial. Belichick butters Davis up with all of this “Coach Davis” stuff, then offers Al Davis a bag of dirt for a pot of gold, and Davis gives it right up thinking Belichick is one of the few friends he still has in the league. It’s almost too easy.

  110. jhill Says:

You mean other than the fact that I’ve seen him on the right side of our line already?

I’d rather see Ellis and Shuagnessy than Ellis and Scott. If you prefer to keep Scott in your lineup, do your thing.

  111. Dakota Says:

    MR,

I don’t know that Seymour is over the hill…he is what, 29, 30? Had 52 tackles and 8 sacks last season. We’ll see.

Now work on the LBs and maybe something nice will happen this year for a change.

  112. 1960AutumnWind Says:

Also I bet we will see bump and run with blitzing because our corners can handle this. We have the personal to do this with Johnson and Aso. A lot of teams will not try this…. I keep forgetting Garcia is tougher than Tom Brady, Seymour and the incredible hulk, combined! Resign Garcia so he can take us to the promised land!

  116. Scottish Raider Says:

The Raiders will use Seymour in three different ways. RDE against the run – Kelly and Warren should be the starting DTs (both are too expensive to keep otherwise). DT on 3rd and long and other passing downs. I also suspect the Raiders might throw a few 3:4 or 5:2 sets into the playbook – just to confuse and disorientate. Rob Ryan did that once or twice last season.

Sad for Joseph, it sounded as if he had stepped up this camp. The key player is Shaughnessy. If he shows as a starting RDE, then Seymour can move inside. If not, then Seymour will have to stay outside. Scott returns to his best position – back-up option at LDE.

Good quote from Ross Tucker: “Seymour to Raiders for 2011 1st Rd. Pick. Win-win for Raiders. They get Seymour’s services and won’t mess-up another high draft pick.”

  117. RaiderNsuede Says:

Im just waiting to hear from Seymour. I want to get a gauge of his demeanor and mindset for our squad. Oh yeah Rob Ryan came from New England by the way. Raiders and Pats are friends from the AFL days this isn’t the last transaction that will occur between the two teams.

  123. priesttj Says:

Damn I logged on to see the practic Squad and find this, getting Seymour is the kind of player I was talking about but didn’t know if we could get. I neer liked the Wilfork idea and hated the Raji idea. But this is the kind of deal you hope can happen but think it wont.

The Pat’s are betting on a lot of youth which is not bad when you have the coaching and are established power in the league. But it is not gauranteed to work. But my bet is tha it will because their are enough playe left to show the young guy’s how things are done.

I think they’re going to put Seymour in Ellis’ spt and movellis to rush end. Now they can bring Bryat along slowly.

This also allows us to play tha 3/4 lineup much better w/T Kelly and Seymour at DE and Warren at NT. They have shown tha alignment in camp but it was largely ineffective.

Seymour is a definite upgrade over an player we had but you culd not have made me believe the Pat’s would let him go. The play of Joseph lately has obviously helped us make a move such as this.

  126. SnB offense defense specialteams Says:

    JHIll,

This works out well. 3 out of 4 D-Lineman should be solid and will help mask an deficiencies in the 4th guy. Most teams in the league would have trouble saying they got 3 of 4 solid players on the D-Line.

Next year, Gerard Warren’s $5M+ contract disappears and Sands’ bloated contract is gone as well which should make signing Seymour fairly easy.

Cool, D-Line should be good to go. Now the LBs have to step up and play the game.

I read an interesting comment about the value of the trade…

Last year, the Vikings traded a 1st and two 3rd round picks for Jared Allen.
    ——————————————————-

Allen is a younger every down DE specializing as possibly the premier pass rusher in the league. Those credentials would garner a higher value, but all in all Bob, I think we did pretty well, if Big Sey shows up with a desire to impress.

  129. Scottish Raider Says:

The Seymour trade only makes sense if the Raiders pick was lower than No20 in 2011. That effectively means we have two seasons to get to 10:6 at worse. 2009 will be tough because of the schedule – we have a weak AFC West but some horror road-trips. 8:8 will be reasonable for 2009 but only as a base for a play-off run in 2010.

  130. ohioraider Says:

I get a kick out of you Davis sycophants so eager to give him credit for this trade, like he’s got his old mojo (circa 1970s) back. It’s his disastrous personnel decisions, from Hall, Kelley, Sands, Joseph to passing up Ngata–who’d we get instead? please remind me–that led to this last minute act of near desperation. You guys still don’t get it, do you? He doesn’t know what he’s doing. This team is looking at maybe six wins, that’s if JMR shows decent progress. Then where will you be in December? Dreaming about the draft probably. Numb nuts.

  131. Brien the General Says:

Or do you keep your backs and TE’s in?? Or do you just try to run at Ellis?? This should be interesting. Expect to Win!

  133. Brien the General Says:

Of course Al was desperate but you guys arent giving him credit for not being the usual stubborn bastard that he is by going with the lineup they used in the preseason?

  134. priesttj Says:

In his senior year you could see if he were healthy that he was capable of tha type of play but to actualy see it was great. If Mitchell can cme in and bring his physicality it could further transform this defense.

  135. Brien the General Says:

Oakglenn I expect wins no matter who is here but yes I expect to win Sept 14th. This was a drastic change for a our team. High character guy who is a perennial pro bowler 3 time champion. That has to help the team

  136. Brien the General Says:

Ohioraider= just ignores the fact the Raiders dont have old ass slug WRs like Lelie, curry and Walker as the top 3 guys or the fact that Kwame Harris is gone and also that Khalif Barnes will be starting eventually and he is an upgrade over Green.

Some moves al has done deserves harsh criticism and the archives shown that from me but this move was great

Richard Seymour and a 3rd and 5th rounder in 2010

We get a better player in Seymour….and the extra 3rd and 5th rounder mitigates somewhat the loss of the 1st rounder.

  147. SnB offense defense specialteams Says:

    Priesttj,

The deal is a fantastic deal. Seymour is no aging veteran. He is in his prime and the Pats smartly were thinking cap. They gotta re-sign Wilfork AND Tom Brady. No money left so they got what they could.

As for the Raiders, my biggest complaint of late was the need for another difference maker in the Front 7. Someone that could make the guys around him better and a guy the opponent has to account for in the game plan.

Seymour is that guy. It will be interesting to see how much Tommy Kelly benefits from this move. With Seymour and Ellis at each side, TK should be able to realize is potential. And if that happens, suddenly we have a pretty good D-Line!

    Great move today!

  148. priesttj Says:

SnB, acknowledging something and pulling off a move like this are two very diferent things. Geting a player of this calibre is extremely difficult. This was obviously a payback move. These are the kind of players that cost 2 1st or at least a 1st and a 3rd or something.

You are entitled you your own view but how is Shaughnessy so much better than Scott? Oh because how he handles those recent cut players? Scott is a better pass rusher and that is mainly what you are looking for from a RDE. Now mind Scott hasnt looked great in preseason but let’s see how he is in the course of a 60 minute game. I’m willing to bet that guy causes hell this season. Shaughnessy is an average pass rusher to me but he looks better vs the run. The key is a GREAT player. And just in time too. The run defense should get a lot better. And if we can shut down one-dimensional run teams like Denver (2), K.C(2), Jets, Cleveland, Redskins – this move should = 7 wins alone.

Add in teams that would like to run 1st…like the Giants and Ravens…and suddenly this season could look interesting.

If we can get teams into more 3rd and 7(s) and more, this plays right into the hands of the secondary. And with Seymour, Kelly, Ellis and Scott should have an easier time getting to the QB on those 3rd downs!

Have you seen Routt in the nickle package? Maybe that’s why our 3rd down defense is so bad. He’s awful. I think I’m ready to see Bowie.

And if you are questioning 3 Safeties on the field, then you haven’t been playing attention. Huff and Baker were on the field more than Routt last year. What makes you think it will be any different?
    *****************************

No I’ve seen Routt in base D packages and it wasnt nice at all. Bowie? My god I know they sprinkle your weed with sherm now. Routt was in the doghouse last year and admitted as much due to his play. Supposedly we have a different defensive coordinator right? So obviously for him to even get a look at starting early on meant he did something to better himself

  172. Brien the General Says:

I am tripping? I think Jay Richardson is ahead of him on the depth chart. Shaughnessy is the 4th DE on the team. Richardson will see snaps before he does

  173. DMunoz 26 Says:

Trevor Scott needs to start because he is white. When the Patriots were winning Super Bowls, they had white guys on their defense. You can’t win in this league without a stud white guy

  174. Brien the General Says:

Jhill maybe Routt is why our third down defense is bad? You are a much smarter guy than that. I know you are

  175. priesttj Says:

Brien, just wach th Seattle game it answers all questions about Scott and MS. Shauaghnessey was very good and I mean very good. If yo watch his clege film you could see he had this ability but watching the Seattle game sealed it for me. He played in a run oriented league and it shows he is just very stout on the corner and gives you a very decent edge rush whichin time should get muc better.

  176. jhill Says:

It’s funny how you use your arguments to support the players you like.

So the fact that Huff has that same new D Coordinator whose giving him the same look at starting doesn’t mean he did something to get himself out of that same dog house?

    Too funny!

  178. Brien the General Says:

Oh ok BHP, the one series for Scott vs the many for Shaughnessy. I got ya

  179. jhill Says:

    LOL,

Shaugnessy is the 2nd team LDE and Richards is the 2nd team RDE. Or at least that was the case in the last game. Richards did not get ONE SNAP at LDE, and you know that doesn’t bode well for him.

  180. Brien the General Says:

Huff started off as the starter this preseason like Routt? Huff only started due to the fact Eugene was out sick and missed that weak of practice and hurt his pussy like the wimp he is

  181. Brien the General Says:

LOL Jhill you just cut yourself. RDE RDE RDE RDE RDE. We are talking about Trevor Scott right?

  182. Plunketthead Says:

    Guess who I am!!

I hate a pro football team and I especially hate its owner. I have spent the last 4 years at a second rate Raider blog saying negative things about the team, the owner, the players, the fans, the other bloggers, the cheerleaders, the parking, the tail gating and any other thing under the sun.
I dont just post there once or twice or twenty times a day. I post over 100 posts a day 24/7/52/365. Not even hardcore Raider fans display that level of devotion. I may not have a life or a job or a girlfriend but the negative attention I get at Raider blog far surpases any feelings of love I have ever had.
Right or wrong does not matter in my vendetta against Al. All that matters is the warm fuzzies I get.

    *************************************************
I know everyone is thinking that no such person exist. But I assure you this story is true. I realize it is difficult so everyone gets three guesses at his idenity.
    Good luck and
    Dont bother responding

  183. jhill Says:

Routt was not the anoited starter this preseason. CJ was hurt early on. He was in a battle the same way Huff and Eugene are. It’s undisputed.

  184. JT52 Says:

everyone is throwing line up changes around and giving their insight

I cant wait for cable to say something about this trade

    My opinions:

Richardson, Seymour, Kelly, Ellis on run downs

Scott, Kelly, Seymour, Ellis on pass downs

3-4 is not gonna happen ppl we do not have the LB’s say what u want but our LB’s are all under 240lbs except Sam williams who sucks. 3-4 LB’s need to be all 250+ in the middle to stop the run and basically hybrid DE’s on the outside to rush the passer. We dont have the MLB’s

Scott could play OLB but has never done it so I am doubt we go into this season with a 3-4 just all of the sudden.

4-3 is our Base thats, thats what Al likes, thats what we will run. Even Cable said we are a 4-3 team with or without Seymour.

  185. priesttj Says:

Routt is not physical on the corner he is one reason why we stunk against the run, he just doesn’t give the support you should get from the corner. I saw Bowie do that and that is why he’s still here. He can bump & run and provide force against the run.

To stop the run you must have every player comitted to stop the run and Bowie has that mentality. So does Nanadi and CJ. You have to turn the runner back in or make the tackle. Have you ever seen Routt tackle???

  186. DMunoz 26 Says:

With a name like Shaugnessy, you’d think he would be white. But he is not. That is why Trevor Scott should start. He also has a nice goatee.

  187. jhill Says:

    Brien,

    You must be bored.

You mentioned ACTUAL depth chart. Are you really comparing that to where I THINK the guys should be playing?

    Purple time bruh!

  188. Brien the General Says:

Richardson doesnt get one snap at LDE means what? LOL. Means they like his pass rushing skills enough at RDE. I’m not sold onthem myself but he did have 3 sacks last year

  189. DMunoz 26 Says:

    Trevor Scott is dreamy.

  190. jhill Says:

    J Hill opinion ….

    Cables’s actual personell decisions ….

    Surely you recognize the difference.

You admit that Richardson shouldn’t be on the team either? Can’t pass rush, and can’t play the base end. He’s already been beat out for 2nd team base DE where he SHOULD be playing. Richardson’s time on this team should be coming to an end.

    ********************
I totally think you are way off here. Why did Routt start the Dallas game? Dont say because CJ was hurt because that was never said come on man

  192. SnB offense defense specialteams Says:

Ellis and Seymour was added to help Tommy Kelly. All this for Derrick “Get me outta here” Burgess and 1st rounder in the distant future. Plus, the 3rd and 5th rounds next year are about equal to a 2nd rounder in 2011….and if the Raiders finish as well as we think is possible, that 1st rounder ain’t even worth that much.

    This is a great day!

  193. Brien the General Says:

Huff and Eugene battled lol. Yeah ok. We all know Huff aitn starting over Eugene. Huff is soft and a poodle. Eugene is garbage but at least isnt soft. Neither are good but Eugene is obviously starting

  194. jhill Says:

CJ was hurt a lot during early practices. Check it out. He missed a lot of practice time.

  195. DMunoz 26 Says:

Seymour will resign with the Patriots next season, and the Pats will get a top five pick in 2011.

  196. Brien the General Says:

Excuse me Jhill but you cant possibly tell me Shaughnessy is higher on the depth chart than Richardson right? Show me where that was said by Cable. He was beaten out by who? Shaugnessy did nada to deserve that so Im trying to figure where you are making this up from

  197. jhill Says:

Your soft argument is laughable. You can have your boy Eugene all day long. You like the way he bumps guys out of bounds? Real hardcore stuff. Let’s see him at SS. I bet he doesn’t last 2 games.

  198. jhill Says:

    Uh, the game?

Seattle game, last bit of evidence we have, right? 2nd team Dline was Shaugnessy at LDE Joseph and Bryant at DT, and Richardson at RDE.

  199. Brien the General Says:

All the missed tackles Huff has in his career justifies the soft argument. Ever seen him blitz? Garbage

  200. Brien the General Says:

LDE or RDE, which one Jhill? Come on. We were talking Scott at RDE and now you saying a LDE is up above the backup RDE?

    BRB, think about it

  201. armond Says:

what makes seymour so great is that he can stuff the run and rush the passer. he can also beat double teams which is something that kelly doesnt do enuff of. thats what makes the great ones great is they can beat most of the odds surrounding them. thats something that cant really be taught. u either have it or u dont.
there is no excuse for this defense to show up unprepared like weve seen them do before. this signing says to the players they are trying to win and they should always play amped up now. he is also a very smart player and god knows we need more of those.

  202. priesttj Says:

Brien, not to pick on you but, I wouldn’t start Routt over CJ if you put a gun to my head. Routt can cover but the guy wont tackle. Tht hurts your defense.

But I think we have wht we need but we’ll see how it plays out we have got to play with more of a sense of urgency. And finally we have leader that knows what that means.

GREAT DAY TO BE A RAIDER FAN!!

  203. TownRaider510 Says:

  204. priesttj Says:

Sign Pollard to play SS, and mve Branch to FS, IF Mitchell is not ready to start!

    Sign Meredith & Pashos!

Sign Marcus Freeman. He is 6′1 240, and can play MLB & SLB!

Cut Watkins, Sam Williams, Bowie, Walker, and Green.

    Trade Fargas!!!!!

I wouldnt start him either BHP. That wasnt my point but as far as Nickel back Routt is just fine for us. Someone like Routt who I even told Jhill on raidernews.com in 2007 should start over Fabian Washington. Well Routt led the team in INTs that year

  210. armond Says:

yeah priest thats why i didnt get into the whole we shouldve taken brace thing. alot of “experts” felt this was one of the WORST dline classes and i heard charlie casserly say that in a normal draft brace would be a 4th or 5th rndr. whos to say thats true but i wasnt too impressed with him hood jerry or raji. this is why patience is a virtue. we got a much better player who can help us now and the future regardless of what the mediots say. a professional who is a winner and will do much more than some 2011 1rst rndr. for a team in desperate need to win this is a great move.

  211. Brien the General Says:

909 you must be talking about MR’s meltdown. The guy says Al has lost but he thinks that a guy who is a 5 time pro bowler at 29 years of age is done but not a 39 year old journeyman qb. It is amazing

  219. Brien the General Says:

  220. priesttj Says:

Would you give up a 1st rnd pick for a player that wont sign with you?? isn’t that something you’d KNOW before the trade?? The pick is conditional to him signing a long term deal, goes without saying.

Man, talk about a culture shock.

Is that a players worst nightmare, or what? lol…the guy has to be going ballistic.

I see disaster for the Raiders all over this trade.
Oh sure, you improved your D line, but, as stated, at what cost?

    You’ve already lost your #1.
Seymour was 17 or so in sacks last year..not exactly a #1 output.
He’s in the last year of his contract, so either he gets redone now, or it’s a VERY GOOD CHANCE he’s gone after next year.
Now, you all know Al and his dyslexic handling of contracts, so considering his FA total fiasco of ‘08, he just might throw wads of cash at Seymour.

So either way, either you’re going to pay through the nose or lose the guy after one year..AND YOU GAVE UP A #1 PICK FOR THAT?

As Jerry stated, didn’t Mario basically own Seymour?
    What does that tell you?

Way to go Al, lol…the Patriots are celebrating as we speak.

  233. Terrapin Says:

Brien – Accd’g to Jerry and David White’s tweets its per Cable. RDE to be moved inside on occasion (or situation if you like).

I’m saying Seymour at the NT next to Kelly makes much more sense than him at the RDE. Seymour rushes the pass well from the inside not as well from the outside. Warren is beyond garbage. BUT ANYWAY .. :( .. TILA TEQUILQ IS LIKE 4 FOOT 11 . IF MERRIMEN SNEEZED ON HER SHE MIGHT GET A CONCUSSION .

  257. Dude Says:

Who did Cable start ALL last year? Who started the first 2 preseason games?

  258. KoolKell Says:

Good deal. But…….Will he just be another player who comes here from a winning organization, and smells the fish, and says that’s odd?

  259. priesttj Says:

Doriangray, have you ever heard the saying “talk is cheap” They can say whatever they chose because they don’t have to play us. Starting Sept 14th the talking stops ad the playing starts. They can’t help the other team win or lose. They can only talk.

The Raiders must start playing with a sense of team and urgency and the winning will follow.

  260. jhill Says:

Well so much for the Trevor Scott debate. Back to the situational role that you played so well.

Surprised they cut Joseph instead of Richardson since Seymour is playing DE.
