Harrison says Seymour `not thrilled’
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, September 7th, 2009 at 7:35 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Tom Cable said he talked to Richard Seymour and that Seymour wanted to be a Raider.
Rodney Harrison, talking with Tom Curran of Profootballtalk.com, has a different account.
Harrison, who said he talked with Seymour, said he didn’t know whether his former teammate would report or not. He said that if it were him, he would insist on the Raiders promising not to use the franchise tag following the season.
Chances are good he imparted that wisdom on his friend . . .

Jerry what did you do, wait until one of the bloggers posted?
September 7th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
Must you be late to everything Jerry?
Repost:
I wonder where he got ‘guys that don’t believe in the quarterback’ from?
Tell us some more Rod.
Anyway, it sucks but its understandable Seymour’s feelings. But who cares. They all changes with the color of money.(and wins).
For the first time in a very long time I can see a big time acquisition making a major difference for the ball club. And if they start winning because of it, Seymour only increases his stature, and he’ll be on board.
September 7th, 2009 at 7:41 pm
So much Raider Hate..smh..
September 7th, 2009 at 7:42 pm
I hope Seymour fails the physical so the Raiders can somehow veto this trade. I like Seymour as a player, but he doesn’t fit the team right now. I’d rather save that 32nd pick in 2011.
September 7th, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Jerry what side of the fence are you on????
So why dont you just call cable a liar straight out…
September 7th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
Screw that, no franchise tag would be a bad deal for the Raiders. Seymour has no leverage here.
If he sours this deal its just bad business for everyone involved. He won’t be happy. Patriots won’t be happy. And the Raiders, well the Raiders walk away less competitive.
They’ll probably force the issue. To the Patriots its a done deal.
September 7th, 2009 at 7:46 pm
Seymour need sto soldier, and keep his mouth shut….
Wonder what his new teamates think about this?
September 7th, 2009 at 7:50 pm
That’s one reason why I can’t stand the Pattsies …they’re just so elitist. It must be contagious in Boston cause the Red Sox fans are the same way.

Harrison: Seymour’s “not thrilled” with deal to Raiders
Posted by Tom Curran on September 7, 2009 9:55 PM ET
Retired safety Rodney Harrison told PFT Monday night that he has spoken to his former Patriots teammate and close friend Richard Seymour about the deal that sent Seymour to Oakland.
“The trade off is, guys get to win championships and make a lot of money, but at the end, it’s business. I knew that and instead of my getting whacked [by New England], I whacked myself. If you make money and you’re older, it’s inevitable you’re gonna get whacked.”
So that’s what happened to Randy Hanson.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Hanson was not whacked… he was slapped…
ask MR… he slaps, whacks, chokes, and spanks it…
so he would know…
September 7th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
wow… how the mighty have fallen. talk about the tuck rule game being a turning point in the history of both teams. now patriots are turning their noses up at the thought of joining the raiders? amazing what a few years will do. sigh…
September 7th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Just relax fellas …
Did you really expect Seymour to be thrilled to be traded from a SB contender to a team that MIGHT win 7 games? To go from a SB MVP QB to a 2nd year starter?
There is no news in that report.
September 7th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
Who would be thrilled by being traded across coasts at the last minute like this? It’s got to be hell for him and his family. Fortunately, this is the kind of thing Al understands and he’ll make sure it works out. That and a fat contract will make Seymour happy.
As far as Rodney’s other comments, he’s been watching too much ESPN. It’s amazing how much the anti-Raider bias disappears when you omit ESPN from your sports diet. More of you should try it. It’s done wonders for me.
September 7th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
Isn’t it obvious what side of the fence Jerry’s on. Jerry hates Mr Davis and wants everything he has done and will do to fail. That’s why he played up Garcia so big and reported every negative thing Russell did as if it was aggregious as hell like taking the final day of OTA’s off while saying nothing about Garcia taking weeks at a time off.
Jerry wants this to fail in the worst way. Because he simply can’t believe it even happened. Thus his diatribe about big signings failing in recent years as he omitted the ones that were successful.
What Harrison says is what many want to think s they pour through tons of comments to find something negative. Discarding any and everything positive.
If you are still silly enough to buy into Jerry’s crap, all I can say is you then deserve it. Because people are saying eerything and spinning this as negative they possibly can.
But if the 49ers had done it oooh! oooh! whata coup!! what a blockbuster deal for little Jed.
Jerry listen up! we don’t give a DAMN what Harrison thinks…………period until Seymour speaks everything that’s said is just speculation. Cable said he talked with Seymour and HE said he wants to be here. So as a fan I’m going to wait and see what Seymour himself has to say.
Because everybody is just speaking for him as though they are his mouthpiece or attorney. I’m sure at some point Richard himself will come forth and that will be the end of it.
September 7th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
Jhill, Jerry knows it’s not news he just hates the fact that it happened.
September 7th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
Preist,
Seymour may have told Cable he’s happy to be here. I don’t doubt that because he is a professioal. But let’s be real, he lied to Cable. No way he’s thrilled at the circumstance of SB contender to rebuilding team.
With that said, none of it matters. The mortgage is due so I’m sure MRS SEYMOUR will step in if she hasn’t already. LOL!
September 7th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
Jerry’s just having fun, Priest.
It’s pretty obvious he’s constantly on this blog with multiple handles. It’s pretty effective you have to admit. There is no other single team blog that has as much traffic as this one.
September 7th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
Cable: Richard, Tom cable… how ya doin’…
Seymour: Just great, coach, just great…
Cable: I hear ya… little sarcasm there… So you’re gonna be flying in for your physical???
Seymour: Yeah, sure…
Cable: And you’re not gonna want your plane to be late???
Seymour: no, won’t want that…
Cable: You’re gonna want to be here…
Seymour: yeah, yeah, yeah… see ya…
=================================
minutes later at the press conference:
Cable: i spoke to the man and he says he wants to be here…

Ha, gppd news from Tila Tequila, looking better Meriroids was lying about trying to hold her for drinking..
Merriman’s accuser says “judgment day” is Tuesday
Posted by Mike Florio on September 7, 2009 10:59 PM ET
The lawyer representing the woman accusing Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman of battery and false imprisonment indicated Sunday that Tila Tequila Nguyen would not be commenting on the incident that resulted in the pursuit of charges against him.
“Due to the serious nature of this matter, and out of respect for all domestic violence victims and defendants, Ms. Nguyen and her representatives will not be publicly addressing the facts and circumstances of the incident,” New York-based attorney Scott E. Leemon told Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Apparently, there’s been a change of plans.
On her Twitter page, which as of Sunday night was blocked from public viewing, Nguyen promises that she will address the situation on Tuesday.
In a tweet posted not long ago, she describes Tuesday as “judgment day.”
“I haven’t release an official statement on what happened yet because I didn’t lie, so no need to release 3 statements to ‘cover’ myself,” she said in a backhanded slap at Merriman’s contention that he prevented her from leaving his house because she was intoxicated.
“Just wait til the whole story comes out,” she said. “I am letting them talk and bash me all they want. I dont care. I know the truth. [A]nd it will come.”
Nguyen also hints that she was restrained because of something she had seen: “There is only one reason why I was running for my life…..why was I stopped? Hmmm….maybe the truth didnt want to leave the house.”
So what’s the truth that didn’t want to leave the house? It’s unknown at this point.
That said, she devotes several of her Monday night tweets to the issue of steroids, a substance for which Merriman tested positive in 2006. So it doesn’t take a rocket surgeon to put two and two together on this one, and to at least wonder whether she’s going to claim that she came across a stash of nandrolene.
But that’s all speculation. Nguyen says that she’ll comment on Tuesday. Regardless of whether what she says is legit, she’s done a good job of building suspense.

Naturally, most fans love yesterday’s trade. More than a slogan, “In Bill We Trust’’ is a way of life for those who follow the Flying Elvises. Only Belichick could deal a 29-year-old three-time champ/five-time Pro Bowler with an impeccable reputation, get a draft pick in return, and be madly applauded by season ticket-holders. Robert and Jonathan Kraft’s viselike grip on the NFL media (could we get a few more Patriot infomercials disguised as news on Channel 4 and sports radio?) makes it hard to find objective opinion on the team, but the trade is guaranteed to be praised because it was made by Belichick. Woe is the pundit who questions any Coach Bill decision and, you have to admit, his track record is pretty good.
But the Patriots without Seymour are not better than the Patriots with Seymour. There’s no way this trade makes them a better team in 2009. It could be a great deal down the road, but ours is a “win now’’ town and there’s risk in dealing a Pro Bowler one week before the opener of a much-anticipated season.
So save some of your applause for Richard Seymour, you Belichick toadies. Seymour was a winner and a class act in our town for eight seasons, and the 2009 Patriots are going to miss him.

What’s your take on the Richard Seymour trade?
I love the move. Seymour is past his prime, and this move will make the team younger and better in a couple years.
34.6%
I don’t understand the move, but I trust Bill Belichick to do the right thing to improve the Patriots.
26.2%
I don’t like it. He’s a five-time Pro Bowler. This might help them two years from now but it really hurts them now.
25.6%
I love this move only if the Patriots can turn around and trade the pick for an impact player like Julius Peppers.
13.7%

Survey taken from the Boston Globe paper 20,000 Chowder heads, and 65% of them don’t like the move.

September 7th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Seymour has 3 rings already. I think once he gets here and get with the guys he will realize that this defense has potential and when it turns around this year, he will get the majority of the credit. He can lead us to the playoffs on D and he will probably say that it feels better than his SB teams because this team came out of all those losing seasons. The icing on the cake is that Tommy Kelly contract he will get while doing it.
September 7th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
LOL!
Totally different perspective in NE. You should see the comment board.

My favorite:
Wow… a first round draft choice TWO YEARS FROM NOW!! Whoopee crap! Somebody has to put a lock and key on the liquor cabinet at Gillette – this is starting to get really insane. Defense still wins Championships – not draft picks two years from now. The offense had better average 40 points this year because the defense looks like a sieve right now.

As a Raider fan for over 40 hears rading these comments by Harrison does bother me becaue we used to be the measuring stick by which other franchise’s would look up to. Obviously that changed a lot due t the constant losing and turmoil. I’m embarrassed byit andI know Mr Davis being the proud person and having ment so much to this league. To have some ex-payer speak in such disdain for this organization hurts him.
This has to change and the only way is to win. I als think it hurts Tom Cable, but I hope it hurts the players as bad ass it hurts Al and Tom. Because they are the ones that can change this. For Russell to read this stuff has got to stoke his competitive fires. The same with all the players.
If I wee cable I would take thisand blow it up and put it on the wall and make them read it until they hate the thought of it. It’s easy to ridicule soeone whe they are down. Now I know why Rodney left SD and he was right. He’s also right on this.
The oakland raiders must learn to play with pride and poise again.Instead of the penalty riddled mistake prone play we’ve seen in the last 6 years. When the Jerry came here and Rod Woodson tey brought with thema sense of pride and we desparately need that back.
This has to come from Russell DMC and Bush and DHB and Chaz they have to learn what playing at a high level on a consistent basis means. How to win and how to carry yourself and demand respect by the way you play. At one time peple said that about the Pat’s and now they’re saying it about us and tey have to change that starting Monday Night.
September 7th, 2009 at 8:44 pm
I see Cable trying his damndest to get this done, but he needs help from the guy’s that play the game.
September 7th, 2009 at 8:54 pm
If he doesn’t want to come here, then have NE send V Wilfork instead! lol
September 7th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
All I know is that Mr. Davis wants to fix our Run D problem, and he understands that he needs more talent on the Dline. He is willing to trade a 1st RD pick to get a great player who can help our Dline. We should find a taker with no problems! IMHO
September 7th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
I say since seymour fills so pissy about it we trade his rights to carolina for peppers, or to cleveland for shaun rodgers, and put kelly at the re spot…
September 7th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
This is one intense weekend/week. First the Seymour trade, then the Merriman fiasco, now rumors that Seymour doesn’t want to come to Oakland and this chick is suppose to spill the beans on Merriman. Please the Donks owner may be suffering for Alzheimer leading to the Cutler trade. Wow …so much drama in the AFC West.
September 7th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
Jhill, Whew!! that is a socker. All the are saying is the trust Bill Belichik. They don’t think h can make a mistake. Well I have news fr them. Most of the Pat’s best players were gotten in trades so they are thinking as everyone else that this pick will be a high one. Well that’s a huge assumption. You never assume something that tenuous. They’re expecting great things from some players and hopfully they’ll get them.
But when they sobe up and see the raidersover the nex 2 years they may feel very differently.
September 7th, 2009 at 9:06 pm
I got a feelin merriman was gettin F in his a and tequila responded as if she was disturbed and he tried and stop her so she aint tell.lol She prolly caught him givin Lt the reach around.lol
September 7th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
On the Patriots …things are starting to look eerily familiar to the collapse of the Raiders …so many vet players either retiring or leaving all at once …MVP QB gets injured …things starting to look eerily similar …we’ll see how they manage it.
Seymour, maybe, just maybe you are actually lucky. Time will tell.
Like someone posted before – Vikes give what I think was a 1st and two 3rds to get Allen. We only gave up a 1st two years from now. Of course we have to sign him to a contract but still everyone was lauding that Vikes deal, yet they denigrate this.
September 7th, 2009 at 9:07 pm
Guy’s yo have to expect this from Seymour especially with all the ex-Raiders there who left on sour terms. It’s only reasonable. He doesn’t know Harrison has talked to Burgess and so has Seymour and what do you think they told him? Peppers or Wilfork or any other player will feel the same way until they actually get here.
Truth is this environment has to change…………..period
September 7th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
Winning changes everything.
September 7th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
priest u are right about blowin this up on the wall for the players to see so that they understand what the LEAGUE thinks of them. the only ones who can change that is them. this should light a fire in all of their asses. whats up with all these fools actin like russell has no ability whatsoever to play this game? rodney acts like a pompous elitist and that damn media is disgusting. al davis trades for a possible future hofamer still in his prime for a 2 year away pick and somehow we get the worst of the trade. they automatically can see 2 years down the road how we will be before this season even starts. incredible

Winning changes some things Terrapin, but there is no question that things need to change in the front office. Not everything, but clearly somethings.
I think there is another voice in the front office, bcecause things are happening this offseason that I haven’t seen before. Still has a lot of Al written all over it, but I do see some changes.
We are certainly going to see come Monday night. If Marshall is still running his zone blitzes, and Cable comes out in with 2 TEs then maybe things are changing.
Bringing this front office into the present is a must. How emabarrasing are the little things like that infomercial on how good we were in the 70’s? Al appearing on camera looking like that? Should never be allowed! Where is the PR department? Where’s the VP of football operations approving this marketing scheme? Who wants to see old ass Al?
I could go on and on. It’s ridiculous.

Then again, I know you understand. Your just in here begging for attention again. Saying stupid schit to get a response.

tila tequila is some overrated overhyped reality whore that had a show on mtv. im in love with tila tequila or some dumb shizz like that. i never heard of her before that show like 2 years ago until a coworker of mine told me about her. saw a piece of a episode and wondered why cats was on her jock. she supposed to be bi 2 cuz she some other sluts competing for her raggedy azz.
September 7th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
This is a good trade if, and only if, they get him signed long term. A #1 for a one year player would be a disaster. Seymour has always been a tough negotiator, he’s held out twice before. Al’s always ready to pay well so maybe he’ll deal. If he comes here on a one year deal and the Raiders don’t show substantial improvement he’ll be gone. I’m not sure the franchise tag would be a great idea either. A disgruntled veteran isn’t really what’s needed right now. If the cap will allow it, make the deal right now. I’m sure it will be less than the #1 would have gotten anyway.
September 7th, 2009 at 9:32 pm

Franchise tag people
Franchise tag …
Seymour is here for at least 3 years.
September 7th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
al does wanna make a deal but its on seymour to do his part. stop listening to people and come on rich. its nothing he can do about it cuz its a done deal. maybe what cable meant about it being an issue between him and the pats is that they are trying to convince him to come here to finish the deal. there is no way the pats want to hold this up. seymour will come he just being a baby. and im not givin him a pass cuz i get sick of all these so called pros pros true colors comin out when they have to go somewhere they didnt expect. if u such a damn pro then act like one. its easy to do that when u on top. weve been burned 2 much to be soft on him but im ready to embrace him.
September 7th, 2009 at 9:42 pm
Hey Armond, great points, young Raider fan!I say young cuz you have something many have forgotten, its passion for this team!I think my kids have IT,Im sure my Grandson has it,for the OAKLAND RAIDERS,some day soon we will party in Jack London Square ps you and others like you, raiders!!!!!!!!!!
September 7th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
So these are my questions…
If Seymour doesn’t report, do the Raiders get their draft pick back?
Do they have to give him a new deal? (I didn’t think so)
As of right now, who’s headache is this guy, ours or theirs?
September 7th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
75,
I wouldn’t give the guy back. If Seymour plays in the NFL in 09 it will be for the Oakland Raiders.
Call his bluff and see if he doesn’t want any more NFL $.
September 7th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
And this…
What if Seymour shows up and pulls the Marshall plan on Cable, refusing to practice or play trying to force the Raiders into dealing him somewhere else?
September 7th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
right on gilbert im not givin up on this team. to tell u the truth i hate the nfl. the raiders r the only reason why i watch some of this stuff. nfl is 2 damn corporate and pay 2 much attention to player celebrations and public image. then sign mega million dollar deals with alcoholic beverage companies but put restrictions on personal conduct becuz of alcoholic beverages. hypocrites, they make me sick. greedy bastards!! al davis makes me sick sometimes 2 but i like that he aint all uptight. he an old school playa from the HIMALAYAS!!!!!
September 7th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
why waste a first round draft pick on him in the first place?
September 7th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
Looking at Marshall’s character, his antics are not surprising. I doubt Seymour is the type of person to not give 100%.
September 7th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
Jhill, I’m not a bit worried about wether the coaches can run their schemes I’m more talking about players holding eac other accountable. Big Al wants the coaches to coach I firmly believe that. He always has as far as I’m concerned.
But lately we haven’t been a team and I feel it started mostly when Norv Turner the Art Shell came through and we just kept changing coaches. Players see that and wont respond to coaches the way they should. ecause they think he wont last. You heard what D hall said that was a serious indictment. Big Al has to let Cable finish the job, as long as the players are rspnding to him. Let him get through the rough spots and win. Letting him coach is not the issue, keepng him is.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
Honestly any pro athlete who cries over getting a new contract needs to stfu. Seriously we cant sit around and cry about making 7.50 an hour if we work at mcd’s or something. Guess what will happen? They would fire you. If an nfl player complains. Doesnt show up for work he doesnt get fired just loses money till he shows up. Basically its BS. NFL and other sports teams need to end this male diva sh!$ . Next time someone complains tell them thats fine. We dont care if you dont come to work. You wont get paid and then stick to that. Dont talk to their agent at all. Let the diva athlete and his agent feel like fools when you wont answer their calls and dont. I repeat dont trade them because that makes every other diva think its ok to do it. If any nfl player is dumb enough then let them sit all year. Hell even 2 years. Dont renegotiate the contract. If they decide they want to play again make them hold a press conference telling everyone they were being a selfish moron, how thye need to get paid to support there family, and make them beg the fans who dont get paid a fraction of what they do to give them another shot. Damn its time sports teams stop getting bullied by over priced idiotic divas. Hell if I owned a team Id even tell a player. You want a new contract. Thats fine we can do that. Okay you pay me your contract back first and Ill let you go. Stop giving in to these fools

If you already have super bowl rings and millions of dollars already the seriouslt stfu or retire with your rings and millions of dollars and go enjoy your life with your family. In the real world we struggle to survive working low income jobs. Most people make barely enough to support themseleves and their kids and we enjoy watching our favorite teams on tv when we have breaks from work. Athletes live in a whole different world than us and cry about having to play for a different team for 5 mill a year. Its insane. It really is. They live overpriced lifestyles they dont need to life. If I made 5 million for 1 year life would be great. Buy a normal 100 thousand dollar house. Not some insane 2 million dollar mansion. Have 1-2 regular priced cars not 100 thousand dollar ones. And you could live happily with your family. Some of these fools make 50-100million over there careers and they are crying over going bankrupt or having to play in Oakland lol
September 7th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
This is nothing major. I think everyone with sense knows no body wants to come here but their well being of there family depends on it. This is when football should become real but no nfl teams has the fortitude to make it real for players. This is where you say hey Mr.Seymour this is your BOSS. Coach Cable. We would really like you to come to work but if you dont thats your choice and you dont get paid. Then tell him and guess what next year we will franchise your A!@ and you wont get paid either.

If seymour showed up and pulled a marshal then you tell him. We dont care you wont get paid. Then you go about preparing for the season like he isnt part of the team. Dont talk to him or his agent. Let them see what it feels like to be hard balled like so many nfl players do to teams. Let him fly his butt over to Oakland and come see the boss if he decides he wants to work. Cause thats what it is a job. At least if they dont want to work. They can still keep working which is ridiculous. In the real world not the sports world people who dont want to work get fired
September 7th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
49. Oakland has to give him a letter telling him he’s got 5 days to report. If he doesn’t they can place him on reserve / did not report status and freeze him in time for a year. WITHOUT PAY.
He would then still be contractually obligated to Oakland for the year that he missed.
Hopefully he’ll get his ducks in a row and join us in time to make a difference Monday night…
September 7th, 2009 at 10:39 pm
He likely wants a multi year deal.
Something maybe double digits each year.
He’s due something like $3.7 right now.
Even if he got franchised by Oakland next year he’d still make double digit millions right?
I’m leaning toward he’s got to uproot from a place thats been his home for his entire NFL career.
Never know though. I’d hate to see it sour. We’ve had enough fukin bullsh*t haven’t we?
Please just show up and kick some fuking azz for us Mr. Seymour. There is talent here. They just need a leader to kick their azz for slacking!!!
You could be the man who saved a franchise.
Rise Mr Seymour.
RISE!!!

September 7th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
Well, you are right, it’s not major. Maybe to Seymour’s id, but other than that, he really has no choice but to show. The 5 day letter means he’ll be on the did not show list, won’t get paid, and pretty much stays in limbo.
At the end of the year, with no pay, he’ll still have one year left on a contract that the Raiders own..so..again..he’ll show up and put his good PR face on..I would imagine..and cringe at the idea Al is going to franchise him for the next two to three years.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
Hey Ricochet,
Yeah, we want to believe this is agood trade becuz we’re fans of the team. It’s easy for a frontrunner like you to pick on true football fans when they are down and call us a joke and everything else. “Raiders are a joke” etc. etc. It’s just a game you overzealous, mean spirited, jerk. We want our team to win. So what’s wrong with that? You are probably the type that would have already bailed a long time ago if your team went in the crapper for 6 yrs. We still hang in there DESPITE being down. Something you would know nothing about becuz you are winning. I could be a frontrunner too if I wanted. It takes guts and loyalty to stick with a team that has been like the Raiders. That must be what drives a fairweather fan like yourself nuts becuz someone like you has no character. It’s ez to come here and call us names and insult us cuz you’re winning. Try talking smack on the Giants board or the Steelers board, but noooooo, you take the easy way. If we are such a joke than what are u doing here debating with us?
You are a mean spirited jerk. Go run over some squirrels in the road or take the legs off a grasshopper like u usually do on a Monday night.

Actually you didn’t pay attention.
I stated that Seymour, and other players hear all that about the Raiders, the organization, the coaches, etc..FROM OTHER PLAYERS, AND FROM REPORTS..
See, I”M NOT THE ONE WHO TOLD THEM THAT..
They found that out on their own.
Now, quit crying. I simply pointed out the truth to you.

These blogs are amazing. The “haters” who come on here are really coming off as bad people period. Do these “haters” actually play for the Pats or Chargers or whomever? NO, but it is obvious their identity as human beings depends on the success of the sports team they root for. Do I want the Raiders to win? Of course, but a football team that I have absolutely no control over does not define me as a person. I cam here to se the latest talk about this trade and all I see is hate filled cutdowns that are totally out of line. On both sides sometimes. I don’t play for the Raiders, Ricochet and other haters don’t play for the Pats, so this mean spirited banter getting personal and assessing a persons worth on whether the team they root for has success or not, is just ridiculous. GET A GRIP for god’s sake.
The fact a person is a Pats fan does not make them a better person, it just means they are lucky enuff to root for a team that wins a lot lately. So freakin’ what. The people that think so are the real “joke” as human beings.
September 7th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
I can’t see why Oakland would let Seymour off the hook for a franchise tag next year.
If he wants to go elsewhere, fine. Another team could still take him and at least we get something out of the deal, some kind of recompense for the 1st round 2011 pick or he gets paid millions in the teens for one year.
September 7th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
You know, it seems to me people more often than not squeal about Davis’s deals and they are usually borne out to be correct. Not always, but more often than credit is given.
Sands was a risk and bust for sure. Disappointing. tommy Kelly’s yet to prove anything either, but the seemingly astronomical sums Davis paied for some players turned out to be fairly in line with what follwed a short wile later.
Who knows. I hope the drama blows over and we fukin dominate the piss outa Whale Vagina on Monday night…

priest, so, Rodney Harrison says that Seymour doesn’t want to be in Oakland, and you’re saying a writer that covers the Raiders should not report on that? Jerry’s job is to get every story he can related to the Raiders. Yes, some will be less x’s and o’s related and more titillating than others. That’s life. Were you born yesterday? If a player gets arrested, a writer covering the team will report on it. Likewise what just transpired with Harrison. It’s a Raider story. It suggests that Seymour doesn’t want to be here and that Cable is lying. That’s a story. If you don’t like it, exercise your right to free press and start your own blog. Oh, that’s right, nobody would read it. And, plus, you’re whole m.o. is to come in here and try to distract people from Jerry’s reports. You’re pathetic. Jerry, good story. Fans that want the truth and not the kool aid appreciate it when you don’t hold back and dish the truth about this franchise.
September 8th, 2009 at 12:13 am
Damn you Rodney Harrison…The trade should be vetoed for taampering. He will not perform in Oakland in an effort to get out of Oakland. With one year on his contract he would have done the quiet version of Randy Moss. With a promise to not franchise tag him, he could sandbag the season and escape back to new england with our 1st. Here is what Al should do;
Tell him sure…we will not franchise tag you if you produce like you are capable of. Tell him this will increase his value in the market. he gets off with multiple sacks and then we franchise tag him and trade him for picks or youth next season. Turn the tables. Anything else is a joke. He is tainted goods and Cable has to cover for a botched deal. nevertheless, God bless Al for trying. He really wants to win and will do anything to get a winner. We need a player to step up and say screw you Seymour, we will do this without you.

Denver Broncos rookie tight end Richard Quinn(notes) was required to spend the night in jail after being arrested on harassment and domestic violence charges.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Department said Quinn was arrested early Monday afternoon after a woman called 911. The woman told deputies that her live-in boyfriend, Quinn, grabbed and shook her to the ground during an argument and grabbed the phone from her while she was trying to dial 911.
The 22-year-old woman told deputies that Quinn also grabbed her cell phone. She says she ran to another house in the suburban Denver neighborhood to call police.
Deputies say Quinn told them he grabbed the woman only after she started hitting him in the face, but had no visible marks on his face.
Quinn was ordered held overnight in jail without bond per Colorado law in domestic dispute cases. He was due in court Tuesday morning.
“This is a very unfortunate personal situation, but I’m extremely proud of the way Richard handled it,” Peter Schaffer, Quinn’s lawyer and agent, told The Associated Press on Monday night. “Richard defused what could have been an explosive situation given that their 1-year-old was in the apartment.”
Schaffer said his client never struck his girlfriend, whom he said was distraught and “out of control.” He said Quinn “went and locked himself and their 1-year-old daughter in the bedroom to get away from her.”
“He never attacked her, never hit her,” Schaffer said. “He did everything he and every other NFL rookie is taught in their symposiums. He never laid a hand on her or physically abused her or anything like that.”
Schaffer didn’t describe how the confrontation escalated, however.
“When all the facts come out, people will see that Richard did nothing legally wrong,” Schaffer said. “His No. 1 concern right now is for the welfare of his daughter and to make sure there’s no negative light put on the Denver Broncos organization or his family.”
The Broncos were off Monday and team spokesman Patrick Smyth said the organization had no comment on Quinn’s arrest.
Quinn was touted by coach Josh McDaniels on draft day as the type of player he wanted on his team because of his character.
A second-round pick out of North Carolina, Quinn played in all of the Broncos’ preseason games and is listed as the third tight end on the depth chart behind Daniel Graham(notes) and Tony Scheffler(notes).

I love the trade for Seymour. It fills our absolute biggest need right now. I hope it goes through.
However, there’s no way Seymour can get the Raiders to promise not to use the franchise tag unless he already signs a contract extension, in which case it would be a moot point. Harrison is clueless if he thinks that would ever happen. No team is going to trade a 1st-round pick for a one-year rental.
I don’t buy all this talk that Seymour is hesitant about going from the all-mighty Patriots to the Raiders anyway. Pro athletes do care about winning and losing, but let’s get real, that comes a distant second to the money they make and doing what’s best for them and — at least in Seymour’s case — their families. He’s probably struggling much more with the shock of having to uproot his entire family from the place they’ve lived for 8 years, pull his kids out of school the week it starts, deal with the rejection of being traded by a team which he has been a major contributor on, and pick up with a whole new team and its defense a week before the first game. It’s a lot of stuff to sort out. I really don’t think it has anything to do with this good team/bad team B.S.
That story makes an easy column and an easy chance to bash the Raiders, but I expect it’s much more about the massive change that’s been thrust on this guy, oh, 48 hours ago.

Hahahaha. Ultimate frisbee and Three’s Company reruns. That’s exactly how I picture the average Chargers fan. If you set up a giant sushi station, gave out free frisbees, posted nude photos of LT in the men’s room and ran an episode of Three’s Company on a giant big screen outside their stadium before a home game, I bet you’d get an actual attendance of ZERO and you could really negate any home-field advantage they have. On second thought, aren’t about 50% of the fans at Chargers-Raiders games in San Diego actually Raiders fans? So you could actually turn it into a Raider home game in San Diego.

September 8th, 2009 at 6:25 am
If Seymour takes Harrison’s advice and asks not to be franchised, this trade has to be nullified. In fact, if Seymour won’t sign a contract extension, the trade must be nullified. There’s no way we can give up a first-rounder and lose Seymour after one year. It would be the worst strike against Davis’ already shrinking legacy.

If you really want to get aggravated check out the “experts” predictions on ESPN’s Oakland Raiders season preview:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/preview09/team?team=oak
My question: how did ESPN gather such an enormous stable of know-nothing d-bags? If you were to ask me how ESPN’s NFL analysis ranks among 4 of the biggest media outlets, I’d rank them 5th.
At least the one guy who actually covers the AFC West picked them to finish 2nd in the division. The others probably had their noses buried too deep in gay porn mags to have any real insight on this team.

September 8th, 2009 at 6:37 am
After all the crap that people are talking about JaMarcus, Al and everything else Raiders, a win on Monday would definitely be great. But a complete blowout win by the Raiders, I’m talking 56-10, would be truly sweet. I know it’s asking WAY, WAY too much, but it would be absolutely fugging awesome to see all these imbeciles in the media looking like they just got punched in the stomach after this one.

I AGREE CHRIS IN NY. IF THAT SHOULD HAPPEN, WATCH THE PRESS SCRAMBLE TO FIGURE WHY THE CHARGER’S LOST,NOT HOW OAKLAND WON…
September 8th, 2009 at 6:44 am
Another douche Paul Kuharsky ESPN
“DIVISION FINISH: 3 Who’s quarterbacking and why should we like him in the dysfunctional environment we know he’ll be working in?”
Translation: “I thought football was soccer! Its the Oaktown Traders right?”
September 8th, 2009 at 6:50 am
Chris in NY: Yeah, that would realy make my night! I would have to call my boss (who is a Charger fan) and tell him that I’m going to be sick on Tuesday!!!…and possibly Wednesday!
September 8th, 2009 at 6:50 am
Token James Walker:
“DIVISION FINISH: 2 It’s “put up” time for QB JaMarcus Russell. If he’s not the answer this year, it’s time for Oakland to move on.”
Translation: I don’t know what the fuk I’m talking about.
Everyone except him knows Russell sat yr one. He only has ONE season under his belt. ONE.
Use the inter net for more than your gay porn fetish please ESPN douche bags.
September 8th, 2009 at 6:56 am
“Scouts Inc. watches games, breaks down film and studies football from all angles.”
And neither of their guys knew jack fukin sh-it about the Raiders.
Impressive azz holes!
Heres a fukin clue.
IF Oaklands high powered offensive weapons (Bush will surprise) come on line and we can GET IN THE END ZONE Oaklands “fast” defense, which is actually built to cover and rush the passer can be rested late and effective when teams are forced to chase us.
Morons!
September 8th, 2009 at 6:56 am

can we win more than 5 games this year based on personnel changes alone?
September 8th, 2009 at 7:11 am
NFL.com writer Jason La Canfora (their new Adam Schefter) says the lack of a long-term deal is the real holdup. He’d be surprised if Seymour reports without one.
September 8th, 2009 at 7:13 am
I hope DT Bryant doesn’t play like the last #90 on the squad!
September 8th, 2009 at 7:14 am
Reading this and the PFT interview with the former Charger Harrison, I am not sure what to think of the Seymour situation. As a Raider fan I will wait until Mike Shanahan and Marty Schottenheimer weigh in with their opinions on the issue. I might need to hear from Junior Seau and Shannon Sharpe as well.
September 8th, 2009 at 7:19 am
What’s up, AM crew?
So, Richard Seymour, huh?
I wouldn’t sweat any kind of holdout, the guy will report, play, and play well.
At this stage in his career, he can’t afford to miss a season or look like anything less than a consumate professional.
He’ll be in uniform and practicing in the next 48 hours. The Patriots are as shady as Al Davis on his worst day and the guy probably had no idea what was going on.
He goes from top tier to bottom tier overnight. His family will be uprooted and he’s got the talking heads and former loudmouth teammate Harrison yapping in his ear.
The trade will not be nullified, the guy is a gamer and will do well for us.
Despite all the BS associated with Davis, everyone in the sport knows he takes care of players and their families. If you are loyal to the Raiders, the Raiders will be loyal to you.
If the guy really wants to be regarded as one of the best, Seymour will help turn around a crippled franchise and help transform them into a contender.
I think he’s just been spoiled out there in New England. He’ll come to his senses and play, probably with a monster contract.
This is a business.

Good Morning RR
Just a quick follow up to our debate during the offseason about Dline talent.
You have to at least acknowledge at this point our Dline problems were much more driven by a lack of talent as opposed to poor coaching.
Marshall was not able to do any more with that sad group than RR.
At least Mr Davis sees it now. With Seymour we can at least be respectable. (Shocking that we will pay Seymour only $700,000 more per year than Sands!!!!)
Still need to draft lineman in the first two rounds next April.
September 8th, 2009 at 7:26 am
Like the addition of Rankin to the 53 and how the practice squad is looking right now.
DHB, despite low production and hands less than sure, to me, sounds like a professional, cool-headed guy, and someone I want going to war with me.
I think both he and Louis Murphy will be good for us for years. Toss in Chaz and perhaps Nick Miller, we got ourselves some guys to throw to.
If JLH gets some catches and Javon turns in a decent season, I say we upgraded one of our biggest weaknesses from last year.
If Seymour does like je’s supposed to and has done over the course of his career, we upgraded the area of greatest need.
We won’t be starting the season with Kwame Harris.
We won’t be starting the season with Terdell Sands on the bench, or even in the building.
We won’t have the Al Davis/Lane Kiffin fiasco to deal with.
And if you don’t agree with me, I’ll have Tom Cable break your jaw.
Raiders Bumaye.
September 8th, 2009 at 7:28 am
The Raiders need to look at the practice squad of the top 10 defensive teams in the league. Do some due dillgence. The top defenses are stacked and will put the practice squad players in the mix when someone goes down with an injury. The dischargers did that with applewhite, he played a lot of time last year on the defense.
September 8th, 2009 at 7:29 am
Good morning Raider Rockstar!
I think we have a shot on making 5 plus games. I think our offense can put some points on the board and surprise some teams.
I think we have a shot on making 5 plus games. I think our offense can put some points on the board and surprise some teams.
Seymour in the middle is big help with Ellis on the outside. I think keeping Cable as the head coach to police Al so the team can focus this year is also a good thing. That whole Kiffin Al situation must affect the players; you have to get sick of it sooner or later. So letting the team jel after last year I think helps.
I have to give it to managment for picking up Seymour-one mans lost is another mans gain. They are not panicing this year and they are picking quality players to fit a need.

RaiderfanNY Says:
September 8th, 2009 at 6:25 am
If Seymour takes Harrison’s advice and asks not to be franchised, this trade has to be nullified. In fact, if Seymour won’t sign a contract extension, the trade must be nullified. There’s no way we can give up a first-rounder and lose Seymour after one year. It would be the worst strike against Davis’ already shrinking legacy.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Absolutely not true. A #1 pick in 2011 is no huge loss at this point. To continue, every year, paying an unproven rookie $30 mil plus will ruin your salary structure. The money is guaranteed but the player isn’t (See: Gallery/Huff). Plus, Al is far better at finding gems in later rounds than he is at choosing between the best 10 players everyone knows about.
I wouldn’t mind if Al traded out of the first round every year, as long as he got a good number of picks in 2-5.
September 8th, 2009 at 7:44 am
so which is it?
Ellis-Kelly-Seymour-Richardson
or
Ellis-Kelly-Warren-Seymour
either way, I don’t see Trevor Scott in there except for obvious passing downs as a rush DE or possibly subbing for Ricky Brown on a blitz package
does he have the frame to add another 30 lbs without losing that speed? doubtful.
September 8th, 2009 at 7:48 am
I think the Raiders will surprise the league this year. Who knows, I think that it is crap that we start the year off against SD, but then again, that could be what we need. A win next Monday night will be great, but if they show competitiveness unlike what they showed last year in SD, that would be good, too to build on from there!!!
September 8th, 2009 at 7:48 am
I can’t beleive all the people trashing me for saying that Luke Lawton, Sam Williams & Michael Huff would make the team.
where are they now?
I also projected Ricky Brown would start at SLB, if not MLB.
September 8th, 2009 at 7:51 am
I can’t believe some clown actually thought Huff, Williams and Lawton would make the final 53.
September 8th, 2009 at 7:52 am
Charlie: I’ll admit replacing William Joseph with Richard Seymour is a huge upgrade to the D-Line and the entire defense as a whole
Rob Ryan sucks. I’m sorry if you feel different about that.
I never said that Kelly & Warren were beasts at DT. I said that I expect to see better results in the run defense based on getting a better/capable Def. Coordinator – I still stand by that
upgrading your personnel is just icing on the cake
for the record, you said we need better players on the DL and Al Davis obviously felt the same way. Kudos to you my friend. you called it. This doesn’t make Ryan an awesome DC though by any stretch of imagination
September 8th, 2009 at 7:56 am
I can’t believe some clown actually thought trading a 1st Round pick for a 30 year old vet who doesn’t want to be here and may not even report was a good idea.
then to lobby for that every year? insane. (post 141)
September 8th, 2009 at 7:57 am
At the end of the day we will all be smiling.
And late Monday night, the “experts” will be quoted a million times, saying, “It just goes to show you anything can happen in the NFL!”
F’ing tools!
September 8th, 2009 at 7:58 am
P.S. Glad they fixed the blog…knock on wood!
September 8th, 2009 at 8:00 am
RobG: the media will say it was the Merriman distraction that led to thier poor performance
September 8th, 2009 at 8:02 am
Funny thing growing up in Texas is that when national media says anything negative against the Cowboys or Longhorns they respond. With the Raiders I don’t see that. The Pats just cut Greg Lewis who was supposed to be a big pickup for them. No national media even noticed. I don’t buy that the Pats are perfect when it comes to their off-season. None of our players have been in trouble with the law this off-season, we resigned all of our potential free agents. we unloaded two players that either didn’t want to be here (Burgess) or going to be cut (Walter) and got draft picks. Look at all of the other AFC West teams they are dealing with legal problems (SD), injury problems (KC) or franchise meltdown (Den.). Time for the local’s to step up a little. Simple question who has had more negative press, Detroit 0-16 or the Raiders?

Stafford, Kevin Smith, Calvin Johnson, Pettigrew on offense.
added Grady Jackson, Larry Foote & Julian Peterson to thier front seven on defense. (rookie Sammie Lee Hill is a sleeper)
Raiders = more negative press

RR
Good dialogue.
I by no means thought Rob R was a very good DC.
I just felt the talent gap on the line was so low relative to NFL standards that no DC would have been very effective. This preseason alone we were still the worst team against the run in the NFL.
Marshall is generally well respected and at least the team has now acknowledged the Dline issues. Good defense starts with solid Dline play.
Here is hoping Seymour shows up soon.
September 8th, 2009 at 8:20 am
Grady Jackson is gonna save the Lions? The Steelers are panicked over the loss of Larry Foote? Kevin Smith are you kidding me? A rookie QB and a 2nd year RB are gonna fix everything for them. No experts think that that franchise has issues. Yeah sorry what was i thinking? Now i see the light. Let me begin
I HATE WHAT THE RAIDERS DID THIS OFFSEASON!! WHY CAN’T WE GET GRADY JACKSON!! HE’S GOING TO THE PRO BOWL THIS YEAR FOR SURE! AND LARRY FOOTE IS THE MAN! I WISH WE WERE LIKE THE LIONS OR THE BRONCOS!! WE WON’T GET ONE WIN THIS YEAR!
I’m gonna cut and paste that on my resume and see if i can get a senior writer gig over at ESPN.

DT42: sarcasm is anger’s ugly twin
you asked a question regarding the media. I answered it
the Raiders are the team that everybody loves it hate.
if you haven’t figured that out yet you haven’t been a fan long
right or wrong, it is what it is
