Where’s Seymour? Not in Alameda
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, September 7th, 2009 at 11:50 am in Oakland Raiders.
No sign of defensive lineman Richard Seymour, acquired for a first-round draft pick in 2011.
A few players quietly inquired as to whether there was any news about Seymour reporting.
“He’s got to get here,” one player said. “We need him. I don’t care if he’s mad. Maybe that will make him play even better.”
Coach Tom Cable will be available following practice.
The Raiders signed Roy Schuenig, cut by the St. Louis Rams, to the practice squad. He was a teammate at Oregon State with fellow practice squadder Slade Norris and has operated in a zone blocking scheme.
More to come later . . .

Chris Mortensen is reporting that he has spoken to over 10 league sources who all claim that there is NO WAY Seymour is worth a 1st round pick. I love how these “journalists” all use “unnamed league sources” as their source.

You know… Al’s 80… He knows full well he may not bearound much longer and his son probably wants nothing to do with the team when he’s gone… So, sign Seymour (like he signed ROMO back when the Raiders were competitive) and roll the dice. He’s obviously not shy about paying the guy if he produces (Right Nnamdi?)but they can’t force Seymour to show up – and that would be a bummer… For the team’s spirit, for the fans and would just give yet more ammo to the Raider Haters who think it’s just one big circus in Alameda… to which we all know is getting tougher and tougher to defend…

These journalist are a joke. Everyone seems to have some axe to grind about the trade EXCEPT the Raiders (and most of their fans). What does that tell ya?
They simply can’t believe the Raiders did it and don’t want to even think about how good the Raiders can be. They simply don’t want the Raiders to shine.
Then I want those same league sources to tell me if Seymour is worth more than a Mike Williams, Ryan Leaf and all the other 1st round bust or average players in the league?
They’re perception of value is darn near retarded. They’ll much rather take the risk and draft a play that has a less than 5% chances of ever reaching Seymour’s stature (HOF) than just take the real deal. Its that simple!

Richard Seymour needs to talk to his wife, children, family, make arrangements for travel, housing, schooling, school year just about to start, if not already in his district/private school, he needs to finalize multiple important issues with his attorney & agent; therefore I am confident he will show up practice and play for the Raiders; after all he is already slotted to start. Family first. Welcome to the Raider Nation, Mr. Richard Seymour.

Speaking of numbers, Is it me or does Gerard Warren wearing #61 look like he should be wearing a leather helmet with no face mask? I swear everytime I see him in a play I have a flashback to my old 13″ black and white TV with the hanger antenna and foil tips.

The team’s credability is low as is, so he’d better show. Makes you wonder what Moss said to him. You got to figure if he was getting traded we would not be his first choice.
Stopping the run was always a priority this year but we ignored it in the draft. A safety in the second round was never the answer no matter how good he turns out to be.
IMO good teams are built through the draft and augmented with good free agents. We’re at least a couple of years from winning and by that time Seymour’s about finished.
I really hope I’m wrong but I got a bad feeling about this one.

T’pin, and everyone else don’t let this stuff get to you. It’s almost laughable when you hear some of these fools try to spin this in some negative light. One talkshow host even said he feels sorry for Raider fans over this trade.
In their minds Belichik is infallible he couldn’t possibly have done this, Al Davis can’t possibly have pulled this off. As you said it’s popping their skulls, that this could happen and the Raiders get the bettr of the deal. So the spin it and spin it and spin it. Buit the bottom line is the Raiders got a probowl calibre Dlineman for 1 1st rnd pick which coud end up beig anything.
Wha they don’t know is that Bill Belichik and Mr Davis are old friends and Mr Davis has helped Bill and now Bill has returned the favor. He gave Randy Moss to Bill and in return Bill knowing he was going to lose Seymour gave him to Mr Davis.
All you have to do is look at the # of trades they have made in recent years to know they trust each other. Or else there is NO WAY the Raiders get this player for only a 1st……….period
Seymour I do believe is struggling with the trade having talked to Randy Moss but this is the nature of the business. When he stops and looks at the roster or takes into consideration the young talent on this team he may feel much different.

I can tell you guys what might even add insult to injury in Seymour’s mind. It’s one thing to get sent to the Raiders, which is the worst thing that can happen to you in today’s NFL if you value winning over an easy paycheck. But what’s worse is that Seymour knows he is now the scapegoat for our run defense. Being here will hurt his value. He’s expected to be THE run defense here. One guy. He knows that’s not possible, as anyone with a brain knows it’s not possible. So when the season’s done and we’re the worst run defense in football, guess who’s going to be the culprit?

Seymour is an great player, no doubt. It would/will be great to have him as a Raider. I just think Cable might be the guy to get us to the top again and I’d be happier if he could keep the draft picks for the re-build. After all we will eventually have a new owner/GM, one who doesn’t call the shots, draft the players, or trade away the picks.
That’s in the not to distant future. This team can grow together and in a couple of years we could be winners again. Seymour will/would add some respect and talent. We would win more games with him on the team-but not that many. A 6 & 10 season becomes an 8 and 8.
I woulda kept what we have including the pick.
September 7th, 2009 at 12:56 pm
Randy Moss is being a cock blocker little b i t ch!
that would be a dream come true if we get in the playoffs and we meet the Pats in the playoffs and we run all over them because their run D is not as good as it used to be …but they compensate with their offense. However in that game we take away their deep completions so they got to dink and dunk, because we got Namdi shutting down Moss all game and when he does make a catch over the middle… BAM, Mitchell making the big devastating hit on em.
Also, Our run game will be superior and will have enough to keep their run game around or under 100 yds. thats all we need.
it would be Poetic justice. MOss will never wear a superbowl ring.
September 7th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
Priest, you’re wrong. I guarantee you any player who values winning over an easy paycheck would choose Detroit over us. In a second. Detroit’s made moves. Changed their upper management. That Kiffin debacle blew the lid off of Alameda. The Gruden debacle was enough of an eye opener, but the Kiffin thing was the final dagger. It’s common knowledge now that Oakland will never have a cohesive environment geared toward winning with Al Davis in charge.

We need Seymour to report.
Anyway I can understand him being angry, 7 days before the start of the season he HAS TO BE in Oakland, that his 2708 miles away from Boston, where he has his life, his family, his home and all with no previous warning.
If he doesn’t report either he is is in trouble and can’t play this season or he comes back to NE and we have our 1st round pick back.
So, as I understand, the only problem we have if he doesn’t report is… we are not going to stop the run. Again.

It’s a great day to be a Raiders fan. Isn’t it?
Seymour would be wise to show, sign a more-than-fair contract extension (a la Burgess), and enjoy his last few years in the NFL on a young team on the verge of doing great things.
AL DAVIS has shown once again, that he has the biggest balls in NFL ownership…and he’s willing to do what it takes to make his team better. His deals don’t necessarily always work, but he’s got the balls to make them.
Almost every AL-hater in here blasted him for not addressing the D-line. Now that he has — with one of the best D-linemen available in the league — he still gets hammered by those who can’t admit when the man does a good job.
If Seymour doesn’t show…the Raiders lose nothing, except a guy who doesn’t want to be here. If he’s smart, he not only shows, but he cashes his last relatively “large” signing bonus as a Raider.
Belichick may have “screwed” Seymour intentionally by exiling him to Oakland without his support of the trade…but more likely, Al and Seymour were talking already.
But, if Seymour’s bad blood from NE carries over to the Raiders, and he refuses to show…he runs the risk of losing this year AND still having a year left on his contract, still held by the Raiders.
Lose a year, and still belong to the Raiders with no long-term deal? That’s crazy talk for a D-lineman @ 30 years-old…he’d be throwing away any chance at a big signing bonus from ANY team, after a year+ of not playing. Seymour’s great career can grind to a halt.
Al holds the cards here, like a good player does. If the team and Seymour can’t work out a deal…other teams in the league at least know Al will trade a #1 if the player’s right.
Keep on keepin’ on, Al Davis!
September 7th, 2009 at 1:18 pm
Ha! Last time I was owned I payed for the priveledge! Fun too!
September 7th, 2009 at 1:18 pm

September 7th, 2009 at 1:21 pm
Brave, Seymour could bethe difference between us getting two more possesionsper game for our offense. That alone could change this season considerably.
What short sighted people just don’t get is that if we can start winning games now it changes eveything for the future meaning geting FA’s developing a winning culture. Taking these young talented plyers like Matt S, T Scott, J Rich, Dez Bryant and Mitchell and all the others and showing them what it takes to win ballgames. That’s huge if you can win now with this move. Anyone talking about a 1st rndr 2 yeas from now as opposed to winning now…………..is CLUELESS!! anything can happen in 2 years.
Also I’ve said it over and over again if you can get great players like we’ve been getting late in the draft. What else do you need? Talent is talent however you get it. Draft, FA’s or trades what difference does it make?

preist, it’s all good. Seymour’s just mad about having to move his family from Boston. His absence has nothing to do with how bad the Raiders are. Everything’s fine. I mean, he’s still not showing up. But it’s not because of Al Davis!

SD now has some more game planning to do and no film on how we’re going to use Seymore. All the haters are worried and so are the teams we’ll face.
September 7th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
LTR, this is assuming Seymour’s even suited up against San Diego. It’s a week away, and he’s awol right now. He hasn’t had one practice with us yet. SD’s worried about how we’re going to use him? WE don’t even know how we’re going to use him! This is turning more into a disaster by the second.
September 7th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
OMG…it’s a “disaster!” Haha. MR wetting himself… over a team he hates. Using the personal pronoun “we” when talking of the Raiders. “We” implies you’re one of the team, figuratively and/or literally…and WE all know you don’t belong to the team in either fashion.
MR = Fraud. (Worst kept secret in the blog.)

It’s odd how as soon as MR starts posting his best friend Ricosh1t disappears. No coincidence there. It’s not easy posting as multiple people simultaneously.

Oh shut up, dumbass. The weakest of the weak take.
LMAO at you getting all sensitive on me calling out your idiot posts regarding madden being here “10 hours straight”.
Like I said, go to previous thread, hit ctrl f, type in madden’s name, and your dumbass will see he wasn’t here all day, like you said.
I know, I know..you saw my previous post before the mod started whacking posts..including your whine to other posters about madden “being on for ten hours straight.”
So..go..child..tell us when Madden’s last post was and when he came back..then state ‘I truly am dumber than cotton”.

Al holds all the cards on this one. The trade was unexpected and I’m sure Seymore didn’t want to uproot his family. He’ll be here and terrorizing next Monday. Take it to the bank, just like Seymore after his extension.

It’s a great day to be a Raiders fan. Isn’t it?
Seymour would be wise to show, sign a more-than-fair contract extension (a la Burgess), and enjoy his last few years in the NFL on a young team on the verge of doing great things.
Richochet: Read=going to a team that sucks..so ignore what all the other PREVIOUS Raider players say…and “enjoy”.
#######################3
AL DAVIS has shown once again, that he has the biggest balls in NFL ownership…and he’s willing to do what it takes to make his team better. His deals don’t necessarily always work, but he’s got the balls to make them.
Richochet: balls? What?? Oh..got it..he had ‘balls’ when he gave hall that 72 mil contract? “balls” when he threw 53 mil at Walker? “Balls” when he threw 39 mil at Wilson? “balls” when he threw 10 mil at Kwame??
EXCEPT NONE OF THEM ARE STILL WITH THE TEAM.
That’s NOT called balls to stupidly throw money/draft picks around..it’s called being a moron.
#######################
Almost every AL-hater in here blasted him for not addressing the D-line. Now that he has — with one of the best D-linemen available in the league — he still gets hammered by those who can’t admit when the man does a good job.
Richochet: it’s a good job if you tie up seymour for long term..it’s a good job if you don’t massively overpay..but if both of the above don’t happen, it’s just another MORONIC DECISION by a out of touch geriatric owner.
###################
If Seymour doesn’t show…the Raiders lose nothing, except a guy who doesn’t want to be here. If he’s smart, he not only shows, but he cashes his last relatively “large” signing bonus as a Raider.
Richochet: Wrong. if HE DOESN’T SHOW IT’S ANOTHER BLIGHT ON THE RAIDERS..it sends out the message to one and all that players REALLY DON’T WANT TO COME TO OAKLAND..and other players/agents will point to it as “maybe we shouldn’t”.
###################
Al holds the cards here, like a good player does. If the team and Seymour can’t work out a deal…other teams in the league at least know Al will trade a #1 if the player’s right.
Keep on keepin’ on, Al Davis!
Richochet: LMFAO..yeah..other teams know “dangle this guy at Al..hey..maybe he’ll bite..Look what NE got..they traded a guy who gets injured all the time, who’s lost a step, who’s 30, and who’s only got one year left on his contract..where they surely would have lost him..and they got A #1 PICK FOR HIM..Call Al…CALL HIM NOW!!!.
Shows Al has gotten soft, and that he doesn’t think things through.
that’s what happens when you’re old..stubborn..and refusing to listen.

Favre not even suited up.

Who gives a crap, He will be gone after this season AND we will have no draft pick in 2011. Every year I complain that some idiotic team deals their number 1 to the PATS now its us. USUALLY you say “Ill take that player over a number one next year” (i.e. Willie Gault-although that didnt work out, or Randy Moss– ditto) Here why the hell do we need a 30 player that hasnt made all pro the last two years.
