Nothing to Seymour here
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, September 11th, 2009 at 5:35 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The Boston Herald is reporting the Raiders organiation has officially given defensive Richard Seymour five days to report, but most players sound as if they’re of a mind to let him make up his own mind rather than get involved and do a little recruiting.
The player with the biggest paycheck and the most stature on the roster has been waiting quietly for a Pro Bowl teammate to arrive to no avail.
“I haven’t reached out to him at all,” cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha said. “I don’t even know much of the situation. We come in hoping to see him here and then we’re promptly disappointed . . . I haven’t spoken to him.”
Nor has defensive end Greg Ellis, who figures adults should be treated like adults.
“We obviously would love to have him here, but I respect Richard. He’s married with a wife and kid,” Ellis said. “People so many times want to say, ‘Well, those athletes want money, money, money.’ But you have to understand we are people. We do have wives, and we do have kids, and he’s a guy who has both a wife and kids.
“They’re in school out on the East Coast, so to jump up in a matter of a week and get out here and be ready to play a whole season. Do you bring your wife and kids or you leave your wife and kids? So it’s a tough situation.”
Cable’s daily Seymour statement: “Until, you know, we have some facts on what is or isn’t going to happen, I’ve really felt like it’s not an issue until we have something concrete. So, with that in mind, it’s just been business as usual in terms of getting this team ready to play. I think that’s the right approach. I think we all are hoping that he’s going to show up. But the bottom line is that until we have something one way or the other, we have to stay the course with San Diego.”
The Raiders are obviously hoping the letter will at least jump-start a relationship with a player who has obviously been reluctant to go from the NFL’s winningest team over the last six years to the polar opposite, but has never said publicly why he hasn’t reported or if he’ll report at all.
And, to be clear, neither Seymour nor the Raiders has confirmed a letter or any contact at all other than Cable saying he spoke to the defensive lineman at least twice and that he “wanted to be a Raider.”
After the five days are up, the Raiders can place Seymour on a reserve/left squad list which would commit him to Oakland for another season at his 2009 salary or continue to wait in hopes of getting him aboard soon.
More Friday news and notes:
– Asomugha said he is getting comfortable with the split on his left had that will protect a chip fracture and that it shouldn’t affect him, even in run support.
“Tackling’s not an issue,” Asomugha said. “Wrapping up, I think if I’m trying to grab someone that could be an issue because someone’s getting away and you’re trying to tackle them that way. But aside from that I think I’m fine.”
– The Raiders will wear white throwback jerseys with silver numbers outlined in black.
“Everybody likes them,” Asomugha said. “It’s good to have a different look and we’re wearing white at home, so I guess that’ll be the second time in maybe 40 years or something, 30 years, so it’s good. ”
– Believe I said earlier Justin Fargas did not practice. He was officially listed as limited, but Cable said he did very little and didn’t sound enthusiastic about the possibility of him facing the Chargers.
It came as no surprise to Michael Bush that Darren McFadden was named as the starting running back by Cable Thursday.
“That’s perfectly fine with me. I pretty much kind of knew he was going to start anyway, just by taking reps in practice and who’s going first and things like that,” Bush said. “I wish the best of luck to him, getting the game going. If he slows down, I can come in there and pick it up and we can keep going.”

I just got back from HQ in Alameda. They know nothing.
September 11th, 2009 at 5:39 pm
Whats important is whether his new playbook and uniforms were dropped off along with the letter because he has some studying to do and he needs to try on that outfit to make sure he looks good before he takes that flight on Monday morning to play Monday afternoon.

Here is the dialog between Bill B. and Al Davis:
BB: Hey, Al. Richard Seymour might be available.
AD: Are you here to take away my bedpan?
BB: No, Richard Seymour. Five time pro bowler.
AD: Do they give me Jello today? I like it when they put the fruit in there.
BB: We love him, but he is available. How about a 3rd rounder?
AD: I want my Jello first before the peas. How come my great grandchildren never visit anymore?
BB: A first rounder? OK, we will do that.
AD: They don’t let me have sharp objects anymore.
BB: It is OK. Just use a pencil.
September 11th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
Why is NFL.com reporting on their site that we’ve already placed him on the reserve/left list? What’s the deal Jerry?
September 11th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
I would like to pay Fargas’ hamstring for tightening up and ensuring that McFadden and Bush play in this game. Thank you.

In the wake of the Richard Seymour debacle, Al Davis hires a new cap-ologist and player personnel advisor to provide expertise in turning the Raiders around:

I had no idea the Raiders had a playbook. Assumed they drew up the plays in the dirt with a stick.

Pride_and_poise – Michael Lombardi must be confused because you cannot put Seymour on the reserve/left squad list until after the 5 days have passed and its been listed that Sept. 10th was he day the letter was sent so he couldn’t be placed on it until after the 15th.

People are getting the list confused. I believe, per National Football Post, that Seymour was placed on the EXEMPT/LEFT SQUAD LIST to allow the Raider to fill in with JOseph without cutting a player until this get all worked out.
Other venues are saying he was placed on the RESERVE/LEFT SQUAD LIST which according to NFL Spokesman this list means he CANNOT play for the rest of the year. Which did not happen.

There you have it. People working on these networks reporting on the NFL don’t even know what they are talking about
September 11th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
Once again everyone is laughing at the Raiders but to me, this seems to be a league problem not a Raider problem. Trades and the draft are the ways teams that are not good get good. If players will not report to the teams that draft or trade for them it undermines the entire league. Pretty soon the NFL will be like MLB where the teams with the most $$$ (or in this case most wins) will attract the best players and the same teams will be in the playoffs and Super Bowl year in and year out. That’s not good for the NFL. That’s not good at all.

Why do Raider players not play up to their contracts?
Why do they seem to not give effort?
I believe because they are not emotionally invested in the project. All direction comes from the Excutive Suite, instead of the locker room.
Any thoughts?

Part of the reason is that the Raiders miscast players for the scheme. deAngelo Hall was not a man2man corner…Gerard Warren is a 3-tech…Gibril Wilson is not a man2man safety guy….
The Raiders also overpay players and prop them up too much. Oh, that Tommy Kelly…he’s a playah I tellya….type stuff going on.
Coaching chaos….frequent coaching changes and demoralized coaches has killed this team..
Bringing in superstar skill players while the Lines are bad…like the Randy Moss deal…what good is a WR if the line can’t block…”hope that isn’t the case this year”

Exempt/Left Squad vs Reserve/Left Squad ….how bout doing some real research Jerry?
September 11th, 2009 at 5:55 pm
Ok so it’s safe to assume Seymour will not play Monday night. I hope we get him in soon or we trade him to a team that wants him. Maybe getting a fourth or third round pick. LOL
September 11th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
The exemption is a temporary exception from what I can gather.
September 11th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
Seymour’s flack, Rodney Harrison, reports that Seymour is “horrified” by the idea of having to play for the Raiders.
None of this would have happened if Al Davis were alive.
September 11th, 2009 at 5:57 pm
It’s not a league problem, Oak. The teams have all the leverage. We’ve seen this how many times before? Best you can do is hit the players in their pockets, and it has worked 100% of the time to date.
September 11th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
Believe I said earlier Justin Fargas did not practice. He was officially listed as limited, but Cable said he did very little and didn’t sound enthusiastic about the possibility of him facing the Chargers.
=======================================================
I still don’t get Cable’s absolute devotion to Justin Fargas. We could have Adrian Peterson and Michael Turner on the team at the same time and we would still platoon Fargas.
I love his attitude…heck I love Michael Huff’s attitude. But you gotta perform better than your teammates…and Fargas just doesn’t bring the playmaking and flexibility that DMAC and Bush does.
The only thing I hear about Fargas is “he gets yards between the 20’s”…..”he runs hard”…to me those sound like weak justifications. Other than blitz pickup…there is nothing he does better than Bush or DMAC. A RB that excels at blocking but is a below average runner doesn’t help you unless you plan to throw 40x a game!
I really hope Bush plays so well that he keeps Fargas on the bench. Makes it a no-brainer….although I thought he did that last yr against Tampa!

The best way to get good is to develop your own talent at the key positions…win some games and show promise…and then sign that veteran….See Atlanta and Tony Gonzalez.
We should have traded for Seymour earlier…like after the New Orleans game. Would have given the team and Seymour more time to sort things out.
We knew the run defense was garbage 10 months ago…let alone 10 days ago!

When T.O.’s agent screwed up on filing the paper work for him the 9ers traded him to Baltimore for a 2nd round pick. T.O. cried and the league stepped in and cancelled the deal and he went to Philly. Comprende!
September 11th, 2009 at 6:06 pm
The 49ers and Raiders could merge and have a decent taxi squad for a playoff team

Its aggravating as heck waiting on this trade to conclude, but I really don’t think Seymour is ready to retire at age 29. So logic dictates that they are working on a deal.
The player either retires, play for the Raiders or te Raiders trade him. And I don’t think the Raiders want to trade him. Like GPapa says, they want Seymour.
September 11th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
It seems that biggest difference with T.O. was the fact that he was scheduled to become a free agent but didn’t realize he needed to file paperwork prior to a deadline that would allow him to become a free agent. He failed to do so so the 49ers maintained his rights and they tried to trade him.

Its Little League type stuff. DMAC and Bush need as many touches as possible. Let Fargas spell those two.
Honestly, I just don’t think Cable likes Michael Bush. If you put Fargas on the trade block…not too many takers…put Bush on the trade block and there would be several suitors (which still scares me).
Fargas is an example of overrating players. He’s a backup running back…Not a starter

Yeah, but you want players that want to be here. Not this…oh well, play for the money guys…and that’s what this is devolving into.

He’s not playing on Monday Night. I have no idea why? Contract? Raiders? who knows? Apparently Al and Eugene Parker truly knows the situation. What I do know is that we need to beat the Chargers soooo many people are picking them to come out of AFC and get themselves a Ring. This is absolutely perfect timing for the Raiders to come out and play inspired football. The first time in years I am quite confident and focused about this game. The first time in a long time the players are actually JACKED UP about this game. The world is against the Raiders right now, I have never seen so much negative press about a team in my life regardless of the sport. MAN up time is on Sept.14th. It’s been said a lot on this blog I’m just adding my 2cents.

Watch the Raiders win Monday night, led by a steady diet of 2 parts McFadden and 1 part Bush … and Cable still give Fargas half the carries the rest of the season while McFadden gets the other half and Bush is left out of the mix.
September 11th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
If Cable wants to say…what have you done for me lately…how about Bush saving his job? Hows that? Its possible that Cable wouldn’t even be here if it weren’t for Bush destroying the Bucs and ousting Gruden. You KNOW Al Davis loved that. On top of that, it was the end of Monte Kiffin and we know how Al feels about his son. We can all thank Bush and Cable need to recognize. What did Fargas do for him? NOTHING!

1. I have only known the Raiders, Player, and Agent to be this quite about things unless a contract is being negotiated or a deal is in the works. Its the way the Raiders operate – mum is the word. (see Burgess)
2. La Canfora reported that they were working on a deal on NFLN and NFL.com.
3. Name me 1 healthy NFL player in his prime that held out for an entire season without pay – That sht is just unheard of. You name me one and you immediately named a fool.

Because I choose to always look at the glass half full than half empty. Nor am I the type of person nor fan who demeans and complains before seeing the outcome first. Even if we don’t win a Super Bowl, even if we don’t make the Playoffs what I have seen is the improvement of a football team on a whole. Run D aside of course. But who knows the season begins on Sept. 14 and all I can be is optimistic thats how I roll and thats how I always roll.

so much 4 a quiet offseason focusing on football and its fundamentals. no big signings,no in-house fighting, and positive attitude. then boom!cable beats hansen, raiders get romped vs. saints , then this. that 2 me is equivalent to a bad season. but we all know we haven’t played a game yet so we still have a chance. even losing to sd dosen’t end the season.THE PLAYERS HAVE TO SACK UP AND PLAY THE DAMN GAME THE WAY ITS SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED. Raidersnsuede,
Why are you confident?
How do you know the Raiders are “jacked”?
———————————————————
At least the interviews I have heard during the preseason games have led me to believe this. That and Hope I mean you just got to believe that they have to be Jacked for this game!
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
excuse me… if i may interrupt…
it’s the word “jacked”…
as Maddenraider can attest, “whacking” “choking” & “slapping” are all synonyms of “jacking”…
and these words tend to have negative conotations…
one must understand that in this instance “jacked” in intended in a positive manner…
i hope i have been of assistance in this matter…

September 11th, 2009 at 6:45 pm
Terrapin
Why even try to explain to haters the reason. Everyone knows it’s too quiet for a hold out. Things are getting worked out and the Raiders have to fit him under this years cap. This will take time. Also the agent is trying to talk with the niners about crabtree at the same time. I’m sure he is not happy about how hard he has to work this time of year.
September 11th, 2009 at 6:45 pm
9.5 pts at home? Ouch. Vegas sure shares Raider fans confidence. LOL
Terp,
I will wait untill you give a “historical” example of a player getting traded and not reporting till a new contract was done.

It was pretty tacky by the Pats to make him available at the last minute, right before the opener, and the school year.
September 11th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
Man, you don’t even know if they did send him a letter. All this stuff is 3rd person and they can get away with it because the Raiders won’t even acknowledge anything.
Anyway, who give a sh… he’ll play because thats his only choice …that or retire.

i dont even want to hear the anouncers before the game. might just take it off mute at kick-off
September 11th, 2009 at 6:53 pm
Where do these cats come from?
So in your world, Seymour is doing what?
Sitting on his couch pouting?
Goes from player expecting a huge payday from Patriots to not wanting any $ from the Raiders? Would rather sit at home and get no $ instead of the $ he already thought was in the bank?
LMFAO!
Gimme a break!
September 11th, 2009 at 6:53 pm
The Ravens ended up getting their second round pick back from the Niners in that Owens deal. The NFL worked out an agreement where the Ravens got their second rounder back, and the Eagles traded DE Brandon Whiting and a 5th rounder to the Niners for the rights to Owens, whom was then signed to a 7 year deal.
An article on insidebayarea.com reported that a league spokesman stated it was up to the Raiders and Pats to work it out. From what little information is available, it appears that the language of the trade agreement will determine whether or not the Raiders can get their first rounder back from the Patriots.
I have a bad feeling this isnt going to end well for us. Javon Walker tried to retire and give back his 10 million dollar bonus, Al talked him out of it. He was handed a gift and refused it. Even if we CAN get the 1 rounder back from the Pats Im not sure Al would want it. I have a feeling, and I hope I am wrong, that Al would rather retain Seymours rights and find a way to make him play here, whether its by force or with a mega contract extension.
The guy doesnt want to play here, we shouldnt have to send a 5 day letter to get him to report. Sadly, I agree with AirRade, if he were traded to any other team he would be practicing by now. If we are able to void this trade and send him back to New England for that first rounder, that is the only logical move to make at this point. But Al always gets his man, whether they want to be here or not. Either way, I dont see this ending well for us. The only thing I can hope for is that this Seymour fiasco will somehow unite and motivate the team. Nobody wants to play for the Raiders, nobody believes in us, us against the world etc, etc. One can only hope.
September 11th, 2009 at 6:54 pm
Exactly KK,
The Pats are getting a big pass on how they handled this. THEY should’ve been the one’s on the phone with Seymour and his agent asking what teams he wanted to go to. Just like KC did for Gonzales. The fact that THEY skipped that process has nothing to do with us.
September 11th, 2009 at 6:54 pm
He still has to take the physical and from the looks of things he could fail from having a bruised mangina

Richard Seymour is currently trying to find a way out of going to Oakland. That much is sure. The dude has maybe 3 years left. You really think he wants to spend them in a place like Oakland? Maybe if he was coming from the Lions or Browns but he is going from the Penthouse to the Outhouse. Who would want to do that?
September 11th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
Are u serious as hard as it is to maintain a career in the NFL, hell as hard as it is to just make a team you would assume that players would suit up and play because they are being paid an enormous amount of money to play a game. I hardly think Seymour doesn’t want to play for us I just believe he wants a HUGE contract extension because it’s his last one for sure. But apparently we just have to play the waiting game and find out whats really going on.
September 11th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
Richard Seymour has no leverage. He shows up and gets paid…or he can sit at home and get shelved without pay for 2009…and then come back in 2010 at his current salary with His rights OWNED by the Raiders.
Those are the FACTS. Any spin to the contrary is BS.

Oakglenn, you are correct.this is a problem for the league.you cannot have players under contract dictating they can or cannot be traded and dictating where they go.
to all of you whining about Fargas, weren’t you all sniveling in the practice games because Mac wasn’t starting?well, now that the games count, guess who is starting-Mac.do you honestly think Davis would draft a player at #4,get him a year experience under his belt, pay him an outrageous amount of money, see he is the player he thought he drafted when he did play, and then allow him to sit on the bench?get real people!
September 11th, 2009 at 7:05 pm
Dysfunction in the organization?
If by that you mean that because our team sucks, he is less inclined to move to that team, then of course. That’s a no brainer. Human nature of first to worst can’t be denied.
But to say that he would report to ANY other team is lunacy. Off the top of my head, he pulls the same thing with every team that drafted in the top 10.
How can you ignore the fact that he was in the middle of a contract extension with the Pats. Don’t you think he is sitting there like WTF just happened? You don’t think wifey had those $ spent? 4 kids? Cmon! He’s going to report. Feelings hurt or not. Right or wrong?

Once again everyone is laughing at the Raiders but to me, this seems to be a league problem not a Raider problem. Trades and the draft are the ways teams that are not good get good. If players will not report to the teams that draft or trade for them it undermines the entire league. Pretty soon the NFL will be like MLB where the teams with the most $$$ (or in this case most wins) will attract the best players and the same teams will be in the playoffs and Super Bowl year in and year out. That’s not good for the NFL. That’s not good at all.
……………………………………………….
POST OF THE YEAR!
Couldn’t agree more.

If it makes you feel better to think that, then you might just want to chuckle that to yourself. I wouldn’t really go public with your belief that Seymour would’ve reported to Jacksonville, Cleveland, Cincy, Detroit, SF, Seattle, St Louis, or any other non playoff team without the drama.
You really should just slow down on that. You’re not coming across well.

Parker is saying I want 70 for 4 years or I will have Richard sit and make you look bad in doing so? Because I am a low life slime of the earth I can do it Al do NOT temp me (see Craptree)
This is what is the most logical explanation for what is happening now.

Jerry Jones is a younger less senile version of Al Davis.

September 11th, 2009 at 7:37 pm
Hey genius ..
The issue is how many teams would sign Richard Seymore to top 5 money?
Obviously, the Pats were one of those team willing to do so, and so were the Raiders.
September 11th, 2009 at 7:37 pm
If the team was headed in the right direction with a leader that cared about nothing but winning I would be singing the praises.
September 11th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
So now Al doesn’t care about winning?
September 11th, 2009 at 7:38 pm
#116 – Nobody has all the money they’ll ever need. All you need to know about his “professionalism” is that this is the third time he’s signed a contract, then held out for more money while still under that contract. You’re probably right about his knees being shot – why else would the Pats sucker Al into taking his sorry butt. Hopefully this’ll be the last insult that will get The Raiders to stop the whole Charley Brown routine and stop taking crap from every hack fake journalist (yeah, you Rodney Harrison) and play some gd football and HIT SOMEBODY Monday.

Anyone that attatches one bit of their self worth to anything beyond their own personal integrity is a fool.
The Raiders have sucked for 6 years…It’s WELL documented.
To complain, whine, and moan about AL and all the other stuff is pointless.
Al will retire the day before He takes His dirt nap.
Get used to it. Let it sink in. To complain about Al is like pissing into the wind.
My humble suggestion as a Raider fan, is to accept the reality, and look for the positive.
Otherwise, why bother?
Give and take about players, coaches, and the like is fun. It’s grounded in the HOPE of a better Raider future.
To those that want AL out now, all I can say is be carefull what You wish for.
It could actually be worse.

September 11th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
Jhill,
You keep saying the Pats were going to sign him again! How do you know that??
Most people think the Pats were going to sign Wilfork, so they traded Seymour due to the fact that they don’t want tosign him to a big contract when they still have green and Ty warren.
September 11th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
EVERY player?
See, there you go with the nonsense again.
Hall? What did you expect him to say? Yeah, I really sucked at CB, that’s why we lost.
Rhodes? Cut instead of a starting gig when he thought his close out performance was enough?
Moss? Valid comments from him. Norv and then the Art Shell staff? I’d want out too.
Sapp? Madd b/c we payed Kelly and not him.
I think you have 4 or 5 former players who have something bad to say. For every one of them, there are 20 guys who will say something different.
September 11th, 2009 at 7:57 pm

3- we go agaist the Dischargers with this Drama in mind!!!!

What are you gonna say after the Chargers drop 30 on the Raiders and win by 3 TDs?

Can we please get this done!!!
If he doesn’t want to be here ( for whatever reason), then trade him.

Anyone else excited to see Lane “All in” Kiffin tomorrow? 1:00 UCLA and TENN, not much of a Bruin fan myself, but I hope they destroy the Vols.
Should be interesting regardless.

If the Chargers drop 30 on us and win by 3 TDs I will be in here saying I told you so.
I told you Trevor Scott was not the answer at RDE.
I told you Cable shouldn’t have been running that I right, I up the middle, pass to Miller vanilla stuff.
And I told you that we should’ve brought in Cowher or Gruden.
I thought you said you’ve been around here before. You should know that. I don’t change my name and takes around. I don’t suffer from MIP disorder.
September 11th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
Len,
I like our offense and the Talent we have there. They are young, talented, and I think they have the potential to be great. We still need to add talent to the Oline. If you look at our offense you can see the direction we were taking from 3 years ago. QB, TE, 2 RBs, LT, and a few WRs.
I’m not so sure we are doing the same on Defense. It seems that we don’t have a plan on Defense!!!! Other than drafting fast DBs!!! lol
September 11th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
RaiderO,
Heard Romo pimpn his nutrition web site on a radio station and he spoke on the dysfunction of the organization and how the players hold all the power. Even had a story or two about coaches wanting to suspend players and Al nixing it. So take him off your list. Have the other guys been complimentary? Havent heard it.
September 11th, 2009 at 8:17 pm

Yeah, if you call laughing at you “focusing”.

September 11th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
I think the Raiders will have a few Offensive tricks up their sleeve on Monday.
Mcfadden and Bush hardly played in the Pre Season.
Very Vanilla.
Monday they will be off the leash.
September 11th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
And if, and it is a big if, but if The Raiders play a determine game and somehow pull of a win will you be in here saying you were wrong?

You give yourself WAY too much credit to think that you are known just by the sarcastic stuff you say. In case you haven’t noticed, there has been a spike in “visitor” activity.
I would venture to say that if you had relevant football talk, you wouldn’t be banned. Chances are you fell in love with your own comedy routine and dellusionally thought others felt the same way. Another one of your many reality checks, lol!
September 11th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
I agree. Our run offense was “very Vanilla”, and we focused more on our passing game.
We needs to do that for JR & the WRs.
2 RBs that can can run well, a Good TE, a fast solid group of WR, and a QB who doesn’t throw a lot of INTs. If the oline plays well, then we can do great things on offense this year.
September 11th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
Len,
Im still laughing at your last “unleashed” post.
September 11th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
I know Scott is too light, but if The Raiders are staying with him in spite of the pre-season then I hope that they have something up their sleeve that they have been holding back. I don’t know why Richardson can’t play the run better. He has the size and strength for it.

Hey jhill,
I don’t really know what “they are” other than negative thinkers.
Just my opinion, but I’ve always found more success in life by looking for the positive that comes from any “bad” experience.
I’m not happy about watching our team get it’s ass kicked regularly, but I’m loyal and hopefull.
Mabey that’s just old fashioned. I don’t know.
September 11th, 2009 at 8:37 pm

September 11th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
The preseason was disappointing, but in spite of that you really don’t know anything until they start playing games that count. But the preseason combine with the fact that they couldn’t stop the run for the last six year doesn’t make me real confident in the run defense, but still until they play in the regular season I will reserve judgement.
September 11th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
If you want to win, start Bryant at defensive end.
September 11th, 2009 at 8:39 pm
I keep reading comments concerning the Raiders or Mr Davis not having dne their homework and making sure contract was negotiated pior to the trade.
Well if you really think about it ther wasn’t much they could do. The Pat’s ownd the rights to Seymour any contact prior to an approved trade would have been tampering. Also the only way to do that is have NE negotiate the deal and then trade him which they tried to do. Only it seems as though that fell through with the limited time they to make the deal. Also thi seems to involve a little more than money. What that is only the principle parties know for sure.
Major point is Seymour is a Raider………..period he has to come to terms with that one way or the other. No one can make me believe that he will forfeit one dollar of that 4 million $ contract so I say he will be here before that happens. So stay tuned.

He may be stubborn at this point (and mabey not), but He WILL collect His money.
The Raiders have all of the leverage regarding this seasons money, and 2010 if they put Him on the shelf.
His options for not reporting are Check and Mate.

September 11th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
My point is there is no wy that the Raiers could’ve talked directly to Seymour or his agent without retribution. This protcol for the NFL. Just in case an agreement cannot be reached between both clubs. Then the player woul be asking for what the perspective club would offer and that is not fair.
So as a result to sy that Raiders didn’t do their due diligence because there is just only so much that they could do without tampering…………period
So just keep your shirt on he’ll be here trust me. And he wll play great.
September 11th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
priesttj,..you keep missing the point,..al davis could have asked for permission from kraft to see if hes available in a trade,..then when bobby said hes available go ahead and talk to him and see ig you guys can work out a deal, if you can we will trade him to you,..priesttj you are an idiot.

I believe the Raiders did send him a letter. GPapa knew it, said it, then somebody came down on him.
Adam Sch. has twitted it (triple confirmed it supposedly) and Rodney Harrison says he spoke with Seymour and he got it.
Seymour has until Tuesday to report – welcome to the Silver & Black.
(And if you don’t sign you’ll be franchised of 2yrs until you are about to turn 33years old and out the window goes that monster contract).

September 11th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
And its amazing how a unsubstantiated rumor site like PFT can do more research than our very own beat writer.
PFT is also confused by the reserve/left squad list and what everyone is reporting. In other words, its likely they all are getting it wrong and Seymour is on the exempt/left squad list.

We ran behind Luke Lawton all last year…
With Double Ought (Oren Oneal) in the line up….sky is the limit.
We have a run game that is #1…this equals ball control.
We have a phenomenal #1 and #2 CBs…
Tyvon Branch is our Strong Safety??? Sweet…the man was stellar until hurt…Bring it!
Morrison led the team in tacklesin 2008? Bring it baby…
Our LT is bad like a LL Cool J 1980s album…Screw Kiffin.
Schillens like a villian! This young man about to make a name…
and so on….

Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a condition in which a single person displays multiple distinct identities or personalities (known as alter egos or alters), each with its own pattern of perceiving and interacting with the environment.

There is a great deal of controversy surrounding the topic. There are many commonly disputed points about DID. These viewpoints critical of DID can be quite varied, with some taking the position that DID does not actually exist as a valid medical diagnosis, and others who think that DID may exist but is either always or usually an adverse side effect of therapy.

Individuals diagnosed with DID demonstrate a variety of symptoms with wide fluctuations across time; functioning can vary from severe impairment in daily functioning to normal or high abilities. Symptoms can include:[1]
multiple mannerisms, attitudes and beliefs that are not similar to each other
headaches and other body pains
distortion or loss of subjective time
depersonalization
amnesia
depression
derealization
flashbacks of abuse/trauma
unexplainable phobias
sudden anger without a justified cause
lack of intimacy and personal connections
frequent panic/anxiety attacks

Mista, The Raiders sent “THE LETTER”.
They can put Him on a shelf for the 2009 season WITHOUT PAY.
Guess what in 2010 the Raiders OWN HIS CONTRACTUAL RIGHTS at 3.7 millon for the 2010 season.
The Dude has ZERO leverage.

Short term Seymour had leverage until the 5 day letter was sent or going to be sent. Now there is no more leverage for him he held out now he will have to show up to collect a pay check. He will be here and take the physical. That is what we know. That is all we know at the moment. He made his point by ensuring he misses the first game.
September 11th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
I don’t care. As long as the guy produces. Thats the bottom line. If he doesn’t they’ll get rid of him.
September 11th, 2009 at 9:26 pm
Great Len ! Sounds good!
Lets shelve him for 2009! Who cares about that 2011 1st round pick out the window!
And in 2010 we can trade him for a 4th rounder after he has been on his couch for a year, sounds good Len!
Neither the team or player has leverage its a no win situation for both at this point.
September 11th, 2009 at 9:27 pm
The causes of dissociative identity disorder have not been identified, but are theoretically linked with the interaction of overwhelming stress, traumatic antecedents, insufficient childhood nurturing, and an innate ability to dissociate memories or experiences from consciousness. A high percentage of patients report child abuse. People diagnosed with DID often report that they have experienced severe physical and sexual abuse, especially during their childhood

Neither the team or player has leverage its a no win situation for both at this point.

Seymore could help us, no question, but I asked myself after seeing how this chump is acting, forget him if he doesn’t want to play for Oakland, we don’t need another Randy Moss quiter. Besides I don’t like the patriots, and Seymour is a patriot, and Moss is phony, real champions and players never quit no matter what I don’t care what team you play for! Lets keep our 1st round pick and draft a stud DT, tired of taking other players from other teams, so then other haters can brag about it. Build our own, keep cancer out, anyone else agree? Hey Sey punk stay home bra.

The Players contract in comment #287 sections 11,12,14,15 and 17 placed all the terms in the Raiders favor via the Players Contract.
So many in here were dancing around the terms, just need to read the contract and the Raiders held all the cards, poker pun there.
No mention on the ESPN report of a contract renegoiated or no lift of the potential Franchise Tag.

The Raiders and Richard Seymour are in the final stages of planning the defensive lineman’s arrival in Oakland this weekend, sources familiar with the negotiation told ESPN Friday.
AFC West blog
ESPN.com’s Bill Williamson writes about all things AFC West in his division blog.
• Blog network: NFL Nation
Seymour is expected to fly to Oakland as early as Saturday and arrive in time to play Monday night’s game against the San Diego Chargers.
Oakland did not give Seymour a new contract nor a promise not to slap its franchise tag on him after this season. But Seymour will not risk losing any of this year’s $3.685 million base salary and he will be that much closer to free agency in a potentially uncapped year in 2010.
The news is a sudden, stunning and abrupt end to a situation that had gone on for nearly a week and seemed as if it could last longer.
Oakland traded a 2011 first-round pick to New England last Sunday for Seymour. Then, after a week in which Seymour did not report, the Raiders sent him a five-day letter, giving him five days to report or risk being suspended. Oakland also removed him from its roster and signed defensive tackle William Joseph.
But executives around the league believed Seymour’s best option was to report to the Raiders, begin collecting his $3.685 million salary and work off the last year of his contract.
Barring an unexpected breakdown, Seymour will become a Raider this weekend and be on the field Monday night.

I want more Bush. I wanna see football players that can hit. I want to see Bush steamroll some linebackers and I want to see McFadden run past every defender on the field. Lets see some Raiders football!!!!

i said earlier we didn’t expect 2 have this guy from the start so i wasn’t all strung out about him but our biggest glaring need was a player like him. run stopping end. we were getting butchered all preseason long against the run so i admit i’m glad he’s coming. if he really wants to get paid he’ll come out strong.

The uncapped year in 2010 means all Seymour can do is hope he reaches a contract extension before the end of the season.(2009)
The Raiders have the right to Franchise him for two additional years. Let’s play this out, if the players strike, and for some reason can’t play for a given year, the franchise Tag is forwarded to the next year or season. With two Franchise tags available to the Raiders he will be just turning 34 when he is a potential free agent again. This would mean the Raiders slapped the Franchise tag on him two consetutive years.
I would look to see a contract extension soon, 34 year old defensive lineman don’t earn as much as a 30 year old defensive lineman.

There’s a report tonight from Michael Lombardi of NFL Network that the Oakland Raiders have placed defensive lineman Richard Seymour on the reserve/left club list.
…………………………
Schefter reports tonight that Seymour will report and play for Raiders on Monday night.
If Schefter is correct, this puts a big black mark on Lambardi’s ability to report on the Raiders. He is always coming up with crazy crap concerning Al Davis and the Raiders.

They all seem to be shocked at the sudenness of Dick Seymour reporting for duty.
If they had read the contract that Dell posted here, and had done a bit of deductive reasoning, it would have been a foregone conclusion that Seymour would report.
That would be boring. Much better to throw Raider Crap against the wall and hope something sticks.

Raiders put Seymour on reserve-left squad list
Posted: September 11th, 2009 | NFL.com Staff | Tags: New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders, Richard Seymour
NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi reports Richard Seymour was placed on the Raiders’ reserve-left squad list Friday.
The move indicates that the Raider consider Seymour part of their organization, essentially acknowledging that the trade with New England is official, and that Seymour has left the team without permission.
The Raiders sent a 2011 first-round pick to the Patriots for Seymour on Sept. 6, but the veteran defensive tackle has yet to report to Oakland.

why do so many of the people on here try to find as much negative BS about the team as they can?Seymour won’t show up,Mac isn’t starting,Fargas might play more than Bush,Cable’s play calling is questionable,Morris sucks at center(even though he hasn’t played 1 game there yet,ETC.?wouldn’t it be a lot less stressful to WAIT and see what happens and then voice your concerns, approval,or disapproval.too many jump to conclusions with no bases for those conclusions.although a lot of those types comments are made just to get others pissed off.

666,
I didn’t mean to imply that YOU made it up.
The request for the link was to read YOUR source of information.
Sorry for this mis understanding.
After having read the link, I think It’s a grasp at a straw.
The idea that a player can “sit out” and not take a physical, to “get around” the 5 day letter is laughable.
Nothing to worry about.
Seymour is on His way to Oakland, and will play for the Raiders.

The letter states he can’t receive his letter until he has taken his physical. The media was laughing at the Raider Organization, stating that the trade may have not been contingent on a physical. So that info was wrong, Seymour needs to take a physical to be a member of the “Club”.
Also section 17 of the Player’s Contract:
17. ASSIGNMENT. Unless this contract specifically provides otherwise, Club may assign this contract and Player’s services under this contract to any successor to Club’s franchise or to any other Club in the League. Player will report to the assignee Club promptly upon being informed of the assignment of his contract and will faithfully perform his services under this contract. The assignee club will pay Player’s necessary traveling expenses in reporting to it and will faithfully perform this contract with Player.
The letter which is stated to be Non Injury was a legal letter to provide the Raiders with a roster exemption, to sign a recall William Joseph.
The Raiders became salary cap complient with the restructuring of Green contract and McQuistian contract.
The letter was then hand delivered to Seymour too comply with the CBA, Collective Bargaining Agreement.
September 11th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Bob, good to see you posting. Miss ya one liners….
September 11th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
now there is a report that the players union will file a grievance against the five day letter. Their position is that the Raiders can’t enforce the letter but the Pats can. That would be a great out clause for the Raiders. I still think that even if he does show up he’s either gonna go half speed the entire season or fake an injury and sit on the sidelines and sulk. Unless he signs a long term contract we need to get out of this deal with our pick back.
September 11th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
Hey Seymour! You are under an NFL contract. Your contract was traded. Get here! The Raiders don’t care about your wife, kids, house, or your logistics! The Raiders didn’t trade for your wife and kids. They aren’t part of the deal! We don’t care!! The Raiders traded for your NFL contract, and the rest is your problem. You had better be on the field come Monday Night!!!
September 11th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
OK Len sorry man just super pissed off about this whole thing
September 11th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
DT-i totally disagree about getting out of this deal.the league(teams) can’t let the players dictate whether or not they will honor their contracts.what seems to be forgotten, but skillfully pointed out by Dell,is actually the contract is traded more than an individual.the individual must be made to honor that contract that he signed.
September 11th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
Dell why did they (Union)file the grievance for him?
That’s what I am trying to find out

September 11th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
I say let the Players Union file a grievance. The NFL wil counter with his delay in seeking employment to his new club, the Raiders.
Why should he be given 5 days to decide his destiny.
The contract gives him no right to sit and pout.
I say let’s have him fail his physical, and return him back to New England, and watch the fun, Belicheat will have with a disgruntled player, who he dissed off right before the season started, and we get back our 2011 draft pick.
I can’t believe this guy, he should learn to read a players contract.
September 11th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
HHM-actually showing we care about ones family would help with the perception of our team.
September 11th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
I’m not a lawyer, and have no knowledge of the history or precedence of “THE LETTER”, but to be redundant, it may have to do with establishing a precedent regarding the letter.
Has it ever been used?
If so, what were the outcomes?
September 11th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
SNB666
My read into the “letter” will be to test the procedures of the CBA. The argument is the Raiders can’t send him a letter due to his medical appointment, or physical. The Raiders will contend his absence, due to his delay forced them to send the letter to comply with the CBA. The roster exemption is needed to bring back Joseph, and the letter is the official document to comply with the league rules.
The union has no leverage, he hasn’t reported yet and the Raiders needed the roster spot.
The union just wants to see how far they could go with the rule on player reporting when traded.
September 11th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
Lefty, I know, but I’m sick of the talking heads saying “well, he has to take care of this, and he has to take care of that.” Meanwhile, we play on Monday. I feel if he’s not here for 16 games, then we’ve been cheated out of a 1st round pick.

I would resind the trade or have the team doctor fail his physical. He doesn’t want to be a Raider. Let’s move on, I don’t want to see a player who’s heart was not with the Nation!
Later Raider Men!
September 11th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
now, imo, the question is,does he play DT or DE.in the past he played DT in the 4-3 and DE in the 3-4.we play a 4-3.also,the person he is replacing(Joseph)is a DT not a DE.everyone is assuming he will play DE but is that really the case?
September 11th, 2009 at 11:22 pm

September 11th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
It’s an awesome football weekend to be a Raiders fan! Isn’t it?
What Richard Seymour is quickly finding out…is that Al Davis is one of the best players’ owners in the league. Even if he doesn’t like the trade, Seymour’s not going to come in hating Al.
Considering his abrupt trade — a complete surprise by all accounts — I never felt too much reason to worry about whether Seymour would show or not. A few tense days? Big deal. It’s the biggest move of his life, he’s got plenty of things to deal with, and I’m sure he was given a long-leash to get his affairs in order (and carefully weigh his options).
Al held a bigger hammer, and he didn’t swing it. Yet.
This trade was a beautiful thing…and, if Seymour plays at a Pro Bowl level this year Al’s likely to give him that big raise he’s looking for.
Franchise Tag next year? Don’t think so. Methinks Seymour plays big, and Al pay$ big.

Lefty is right. This is the crux of this entire debacle. The demon in all of this is Seymour. Seymour signed an agreement he doesn’t want to live up to. So did Burgess. You keep up that attitude, you’ll be out the league soon. Any other questions??

No way on this Dell. A player HAS to report for a physical. He can’t lolligag around and play Playstation and zone off in lala land. He has to report. Seymour has not reported. He is in violation of his contract. I am sure there is a “reasonability” clause in the contract. In other words, the Raiders must have him report from Boston to Oakland. Reporting 45 minutes after the contract ratified , might be deemed “unreasonable.” But NOT reporting for 7 days is CLEARLY “unreasonable”. Think there hasn’t been a flight from Boston to the Bay Area in the last week? I don’t think so. Seymour is clearly the villian here. Don’t EVER sign an agreement you don’t intend to live up to.
