Cable confirms Seymour

Raiders coach Tom Cable confirmed defensive end Richard Seymour was arriving today but declined further comment, saying a press conference was being arranged and it could take place later today or Sunday morning.
Some quick hits before getting to locker room reaction on Seymour’s impending arrival:
– Chaz Schilens is officially listed as out (broken metatarsal), Khalif Barnes doubtful (ankle), Nick Miller doubtful (shin splints), Justin Fargas questionable (hamstring), Isaiah Ekejiuba probable (shoulder), Kirk Morrison probable (elbow) and Nnamdi Asomugha probable (wrist).
Miller missed his third consecutive practice, and although Cable said earlier in the week Johnnie Lee Higgins would be the backup kick return specialist, Louis Rankin will return kickoffs if Miller can’t go.
– Javon Walker, left off the Raiders depth chart completely of late, will not be active for the game even with Schilens out of action. Walker believes he is 100 percent, Cable said “he’s not quite ready.”
– The backup quarterback will be Bruce Gradkowski over Charlie Frye.
– The ticket update regarding a potential blackout will be later today or this evening.
More to come later . . .

Javon Walker is MIA. So what else is new?

Who said the Raiders “mortgaged the future”?.
The Raiders have 4 picks among the top 96 in next year’s draft, we should add a couple of good players there.
Yes, they lost a 1st round pick two years from now…. but trading a 1st round pick for a player who is, at least, an above average starter makes plenty of sense to me, specially when that player fills your biggest need.
I do hate to lose draft picks, but according to Bill Polian’s research of the last 27 drafts roughly 50 percent of first-round selections never live up to expectations.
“It never fails” Colts general manager Bill Polian said.

Walker probably doesn’t know the playbook.

Louis Rankin handling KO returns could be very interesting. I’m glad he made the 53.
Where do we play Seymour – DE or DT? Maybe a little of both. I’m thinking a lineup of Ellis, Kelly, Bryant & Seymour may be the running play alignment and Ellis, Kelly, Seymour & Scott on obvious passing plays. Any thoughts otherwise?

Bob Marley #2
You are 100% right on the target. This was a brilliant trade. At last, someone within the Raiders made a good decision.

Umm… he hasnt played a full season in 2 or 3 years. He hasnt been as dominant as he used to be. Your using nothing but stats which dont always tell the whole story. All your doing is using GOOGLE to get your info. Its a pretty universal opinion that he has slipped a bit. Like I said hes still good, just not as good as he used to be. GOOGLE on bra! LOL

Universaly known by who? He’s only had 1 season where he played all 16 games. Yet he played in 15 games last year.
I already said stats don’t tell the whole story. Yet you keep claiming he’s not as good as he use to be. Did teams not double him last year? C’mon Dude either admit you have no effing clue as to what you’re talking about(i.e. just trying to make the Raiders look bad) or back it up with something. Don’t be a Bill O’Reiley or Bill Maher on here.

I just hope Seymour can understand our vanilla defense. If not I can help. Get of the initial block and tackle LT. Also get around the big guy infront of you and sack or at least hit Rivers.

Please put Seymour in. With No Walker/Chaz we will be mailing this one in without him.

See Dude, this is the non sense that keeps you in the questionable category.
He only became great when he came to the Raiders?
Like DHB became great?
That’s just more RIDICULOUSNESS from you.

Wonder if the Raiders cut Walker to make room for Seymour. I hope not as I think he has something left in the tank.

Wonder when #92 jerseys go on sale?

Raiders 24 – Charades 17
you read it here first!!!

JB, my thought is that we have a much better defensive line with Bryant and Seymour. It will be interesting to see if it pans out. We have had very light defensive ends over the last few years, that is why we suck at defending the run. Now the worm has turned….

I wish Javon would had….” stayed in Vegas” He has contributed nothing.
September 12th, 2009 at 12:39 pm
the line hasn’t moved on the game…
charades are still 9 point favs…
man, i wish i were still in vegas…
you gotta believe the raiders will cover…

hey Bob, Polian had some great comments before this year’s draft where he said there would be tons of ‘reaches’ because he said it was really lacking talent this year.

Kirk
While I like Warren, he’s getting pushed around too easily in the middle. Bryant will be an upgrade there. Kelly & Bryant should be able to stuff any run attempts up the middle while Kelly & Seymour in the middle during passing plays should be able to collapse the middle of the pocket very quickly. It will be very interesting to see how Marshall utilizes Seymour’s unique skillset.

I don’t think they cut Walker with that guaranteed money and his commitment to the team. Do they cut Joseph? Maybe they bring Joseph back when Walker is ready and then they cut Watkins?
September 12th, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Here is Norvells take on the up coming game.
Monday: Oh no! let’s rethink the whole blocking scheme and play calling they just got Seymour.
Wednsday: All those things we were talking about Monday and Tuesday forget them let’s reinstall the original game plan.
Saturday: Scratch that back to plan B let’s walk through this thing and get it right.
Damn I hate Al!
Ha ha ha way to keep em guessing Al!

Keep Mr. Watkins as he contributes on special teams, Mr. Walker contributes nothing.
Raiders keep Mr. Joseph he has proven his loyalty sticking around prepared to play even though he was cut from the roster after making the initial 53.
