Final: Chargers 24, Raiders 20
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, September 14th, 2009 at 10:46 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Scoring
Oak_Sebastian Janikowski 34-yard field goal, 13:01
SD_Vincent Jackson 15-yard pass from Philip Rivers (Nate Kaeding kicks PAT), 7:22
Oak_Louis Murphy 57-yard pass from JaMarcus Russell (Janikowski kicks PAT).
SD_Darren Sproles 5-yard run (Kaeding kicks PAT), :18.
Notes:
– Sproles scores from the 5 as San Diego gains 166 yards in its last two drives. The Chargers had 152 yards total offense before those two drives.
– Too much time left on the clock, Rivers quickly completes three straight passes to the Raiders 32 before Scott pressures him into an incompletion with 1:38 left. Already in range for Kaeding FG attempt.
– Fourth-and-14, Russell to Murphy 57 yards. Man, what a blown coverage. Place goes nuts.
– On third-and-15, JaMarcus Russell threads the needle to Johnnie Lee Higgins, who takes fercious hit from Eric Weddle, ball comes out incomplete. Fourth-and-14, 2:41 left.
– Russell sacked by Ogemdi Nwagbuo (conventional spelling), took quick look to his right, didn’t see rush, lost seven yards. Third-and-15 at the 43.
– Big break for Raiders, illegal hands to face on Shaun Phillips turns third-and-12 into first down after play came up short. Russell returns in place of Gradkowski.
– Third-and-3 penalty, Cornell Green false start, turns it into third-and-8 at the 42-yard line with 3:57 left.
– JaMarcus Russell injured a leg on a third-and-1 keeper for a first down, with Gradkowski coming in.
– San Diego finally punctured the Raiders defense with a 77-yard, 10-play drive which featured the first real breakdowns of the game by Oakland.
Jackson got loose behind Nnamdi Asomugha with Rivers throwing a perfect pass toward the left end zone, with Stanford Routt arriving late with a leap. The big defensive breakdown _ leaving Darren Sproles all by himself in the middle on third-and-12 for a 15-yard gain to the 16-yard line.
– The Raiders drove 51 yards into the red zone but were forced to settle for a field goal when Russell’s third-down pass to Miller went for just two yards.
It was disappointing in that a touchdown could have seized momentum, perhaps for good. Russell is out of synch with every receiver except Miller at this point.

linebacker depth kept allowing sproles to get open underneat that was completely ridiculous!
September 14th, 2009 at 10:47 pm
We wuz robbed.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
We gave it away
September 14th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
We’re gonna be fine this season. We took the best that nfl has to offer and we physically beat them down. I have no problem with tonite’s game. We might have lost but we have earned the much needed respect across the nation.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:48 pm
hopefully john madden gets said refs fired
September 14th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
we got cheated . im so sick ..
September 14th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Man that was a great game
September 14th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Al Davis and his defense makes me hate football.
People…we weren’t robbed ok. We took the lead. This prevent defense that seems to show up with every defensive coordinator is what lost us the game. We played the Chargers tough all game long until we dropped everybody back 15 yards deep and allowed everything underneath. We were supposed to prevent a Field Goal and we allowed a Touchdown. Only the Raiders man.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
We needed JRUSS to step up….
D played great…..
we should have pressured sent 5 and 6 at rivers why prevent lb’s 10 yrds from the line of scrimmage….
September 14th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
@24
if we woulda been up by 7 we wouldn’t have had to play prevent.
We were robbed
September 14th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
sigh… bring on the chiefs
September 14th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
How did I know that BS overturned TD at the end of the first half was going to come back to decide this game?
September 14th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
we won we did not lose. i knew we’d lose by 4. typical nfl bull. steal it from us. i hate the typcial outcome. losing that game is unacceptable. and we won. everyone knows that.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
No pressure on rivers the last 2 plays, kept rushing only 4. JRUSS looks awful…..
September 14th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
People…we got penalized 6 times for 40 yards and half of those were Cornell Green. We had a TD taken from us but we had plenty of opportunities. We took that game and our defensive playcalling gave it away.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Plnuketthead, I’ll be honest, I’m tired of being right, all the time. I said we’d be ahead in the 4th, and choke. Scroll the past week’s archives to see for yourself. Bottom line is, we win this football game if we just use the same D we’ve used all day. We basically used a cover 1, with a safety roaming the deep middle, leaving our corners responsible for the sidelines all the way downfield. And, they came through. The whole defense. It is the perfect defense for us and Rivers was frustrated all night. Then, we go prevent. First on the play to sproles earlier. Then, on that final SD drive, which was disgusting. Thank your hero, Al Dipsht.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
If Schilens were healthy we win that game by 2 TDs.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
We did not get robbed, we stopped punching them in the mouth and paid the price for it.
What makes me sick is that the boards and radio will be full of “at least we stayed in the game” garbage. That is the very same loser mentality talk that needs to be eliminated.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
3 big problems.
1)Our defense at the end of the game gave up too much ground on those check down passes underneath.
2)Jamarcus is too inaccurate except for the bomb on a double move.
3)The robbery by the refs on the TD to Murphy ended up costing us at the end.
But taking the refs out of the equation…
WE STOPPED THE RUN! However…
Another 4th quarter lead blown by the defense. No different than Rob Ryan if you look at the results in that regard.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Didn’t win and thats the bottom line. DAMN!
But they beat the sht out of SD.
JR is really not in sync with the WRs and you can tell Schilens absence hurt. The closet WR he’s in sync with out their is Murphy and it aint that good.
I think the announcers were absolutely wrong …its not an accuracy issue …you can see he’s very accurate throwing to Miller and Schilens in the PRE. Its familiarity.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Timmah – Even if we were up by 7, Rivers would have gotten the same TD to tie the game and would have probably won in OT.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Florio says mike mike and steve are numbnuts and the TD was not a TD and that should have been obvious to anyone with a brain.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
With a decent passing game we could be dangerous.
And as for the “Al Davis” defense, we played them tough the entire game in man to man, in the 4th went to a zone and started dropping back. Had we stuck with the tight man to man, the “Al Davis” defense, the outcome may very well have been different. Man to man was working, zone got us killed.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
Couldnt have been more pleasantly surprised. Team played tough. D was very good. DMac is a bad ass. Miller is still great. Cable really impressed me and I really thought he would be a bum. Only one problem with this team and its as obvious as the nose on my face. Russell flat out sucks. Period. If Garcia starts, hell if Gradkowski starts the Raiders win. Russell will be the downfall of this team.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
You would think coaches would not run prevent on the last possesion of the game……Both sides of the ball are tired rush more people… The best defense attack at the end we laid down…..
September 14th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Well …
Let’s be honest. We were lucky to be in the game. NOTHING from the WRs. That Murphy TD was luck!
The timing between the rookies and JRuss is non existent. Bad route by Murphy early for a pick. JLH and DHB both running down the field side by side. Golic was bashing the shyt outta Russell, but he was NOT missing open guys. Zero creativity in the passing game with the routes. We can go ahead and fire the passing game coordinator.
Not accounting for Sproles and Gates is laughable. The guys were completely uncovered. It’s not like they were making plays, THEY WERE UNCOVERED!
Too funny!
Cornell Green was, well, Cornell Green.
How about that Mike Huff with two turnovers?!?!?!
September 14th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Two points:
1.) We win that game with any other starting QB in the league.
2.) Prevent defense only prevents you from winning. We were doing fine with a 4 man rush all game and we switch to a 3 man on the last drive. Its a league wide epidemic that I will never understand, heck the Bills did the same thing about 4 hours earlier and lost.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
The man defense is Al’s way. Who’s way is that 3 man prevent? The Bills did it in the first game. The Titans did it last Thursday against the Steelers.
I see it by a lot of teams and they always lose. I don’t think that’s an AL DAVIS trademark.
Either way, that sucked big time.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
If you want to win a game remove the prevent from your playbook…..
September 14th, 2009 at 10:53 pm
its like why do we even try ?
September 14th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
bad d calling at end of game and is it me or was any else hoping gradowski stayed in?
September 14th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Well considering ESPN has been touting the chargers as superbowl contenders maybe the raiders will get some respect. But probably not.
@24
We wouldn’t have been playing prevent defense with a 7 pt lead. So they would have never drove down the field to begin with.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Like AD is making the calls … come on… We got lucky on the gutsy 4th down TD… Take the positives… and there were plenty… put some of the blame on the special teams… sproles killed us on kick returns…
September 14th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
I am sorry but where the hell is DHB???????
September 14th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
the conspiracy lives on. yeah, I like how the announcers took back their initial diagnosis of the Murphy touchdown… basing it on one angle while deconstructing the original main points… making it all arbitrary and ambiguous… its bull crap. whatever happened to breaking the plain. the ball was down by contact and he had both feet in with ball control. The Raiders were robbed once again.
We need to write John Madden and anybody with influence. This is down right disrespect and unethical.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Raider Fan, worst is we keep on allowing the RB to come out of the backfield with our LB’s 10 yards deep.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
KUSH, WHO IN THE F DO YOU THINK IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT DEFENSE?
We use a defense that works all day, then switch to a useless prevent at the end.
Ever seen that before?
Use your head, man. Al Davis is still meddling, and his stupid f’n meddling cost his team another hard earned win. This team will never go ANYWHERE until Al Davis retires. Deny it all you want to. The results don’t lie.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
Russell had some very bad throws tonight, but the receivers are just as much to blame. They ran a lot of bad routes and dropped too many passes. Other than the bomb to Murphy, Russell stunk tonight. But he certainly wasnt alone, we need a lot of help at WR. Schilens cant get healthy soon enough.
And since when is going for it on 4th and 15 from your own 43 “coaching scared”?
We played pretty well tonight, but theres still a lot of work to do. If the passing game had many any plays prior to the Murphy bomb, San Diego probably wouldnt have been in a position to come back like they did.
Keep your fingers crossed, if Russell and his receivers can get in sync we might have a pretty decent team. All you can do is hope for the best.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
Russell lost that game. His inaccuracy is a death nail. Should have left Gradkowski in and continued the running game. So give Russell & Cable the loss.
Our D for the most part showed up tonight. We need to seriously do something about the LB positioning. Wake up Marshall. Seymore is a STUD! He makes our D line work. For the majority of the game the defensive backfield was outstanding.
This is a hard loss to accept. We outplayed them but came up short on the scoreboard. Russell needs to be benched and send his a$$ a big message. I’ve been hesitant about using the BUST label but I’m much closer to pin it on him. He’s had more than enough time to be looking a lot better than he does right now. No more BS loses!
September 14th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
DFNCE got TIRED… in 2nd half SD might not have scored alot, but they MOVED the chains more, our defence was still good, but TIRED…
jmac lost this game for us, …hate to say it, but he had many plays he SHOULD have hit his targets, …let the hype begin about the long bomb he threw, i’ll take 4quarters of better accuracy and movin the chains all season long…imo
September 14th, 2009 at 10:55 pm

I don’t give a crap how well we played. We lost AGAIN and thats all that matters.
I’m disappointed but not surprised.
Goodnight
September 14th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Sorry guys I cant be as optimistic as everyone else, the “we lost but we played well” stuff is getting old. Honestly, we played like crap, sadly that is an improvedment. Two massive turnovers in the first half, awful kick return coverage, Russell missing wide open receivers. I’m sorry but a loss is a loss is a loss.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Cable coached scared and the defense played scared.
Absolute choke job by the coaching staff in this game, Al Davis included.
Raiders will continue to lose until the coaching staff stops making excuses for the players and starts believing they can win.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
Tough to beat good teams with two rookie WRs.
JaMarcus was definitely off but there were at least 5 drops by pass catchers.
Failure to cover the shallow middle (especially Sproles) in the 4th did us in.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
TONIO, WE’VE BEEN SWITCHING TO THAT PREVENT AND GETTING BURNED BY IT SINCE GOD KNOWS WHEN. AT LEAST THE PAST DECADE, EVEN WHEN GRUDEN WAS HERE, AND WE ALL KNOW HE HAD NO CONTROL OVER THE DEFENSE. WHO’S BEEN HERE ALL OF THAT TIME? WHO’S THE ONLY CONSTANT? STAY IN DENIAL, GENIUS. IGNORANCE IS BLISS. YEH, YOU’RE RIGHT. THE DEFENSE JUST SHOULD HAVE STEPPED UP. THAT’S WHY WE LOST.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
Cable went for it on 4th and 15 but he played scared?? Idiot.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
JB…i dont think you can call JR a bust just yet, BUT, he does need to develop more, ON THE BENCH!!!
September 14th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
The loss is on JR. But he does not suck! Period.
Damn people!
ITS ALL FAMILIARITY! You can tell! You see him being inaccurate throwing to Miller? Schilens? NO!!
September 14th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
dfnse was great till the prevent blame coaching and did any1 else hope gradowski wouldnt get pulled he looked alot more comfortable to me then jruss any thoughts?
September 14th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
Hayward-Bay sure lit it up.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:58 pm
what the f were our linebackers doing so far back, have never posted on this site but i am tired of the same ol bull, prevent d lost us that game sic of this f’n team and that sorry as country boy q.b. from the so called best colege football conference.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Sadly I am starting to believe MR
September 14th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
You either get better or get worse. We got better. Now we need to arrange another one of those passing camps again down in Mobile,AL. This time send ALL the receivers under contract.
September 14th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
SD OAK

September 14th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
OK MR but if it wasnt for Al we would probaly be the lions or bengals or discharge or any other team who has never won a SB
I will take my chances with Al and hope he will stop the prevent
September 14th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
F’N DEFENSE PLAYED THEIR ASSES OFF TONIGHT! JUST PLAYED THEIR ASSES OFF! YOU IDIOTS BLAMING THE DEFENSE NEED TO BE TAKEN TO A WOOD SHED. IT’S NOT THEIR FAULT THEY WERE FORCED TO PLAY IN A USELESS F’N PREVENT DEFENSE THAT NEVER, EVER F’N WORKS!!!
September 14th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
this game just ripped my heart out
September 14th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
Yeah he was innaccurate throwing to Miller 3 of his catches were piss poor inaccurate throws. DHB and Murphy have been in camp since day 1. The familiarity is there. Thats a flat out cop out.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:00 pm
It wasnt the D that blew it was coaching….
the D scheme had zero pressure at the end of the game with fresh scubs in for the oline no blitz….
WTF is marshall doing, i would fire him now….
September 14th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
We held them to 77 yards
Thats a huge win
The team played harder then we have seen in a long time
Cable did a great job
At least it wasnt the dink and dunk
JR was tossing the ball all over the place
He will improve
September 14th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
I agree. That was no prevent, it was just bad LB play against Sproles in the passing game by Brown. It’s no secret, attack our LBs in the passing game, and you can EASILY march down the field.
Run D looked DAMN good though. Wish we had a LB!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Yep MR is right there. The prevent SUCKS!!
Seymour is a stud! He makes that defense click. ONE PIECE made that much of a difference!
The run defense could very well be solved.
Seymour was man-handling ppl!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
A couple of thoughts….
Jamarcus Russell is awful. This dog ain’t gonna hunt. Bradkowski was better. I never believed the people who said Jamarcus was bad, but I do now.
Bush should be the starting running back, not McFadden. Bush should have been the starting running back since the beginning of last season.
Play calling on offense and defense was bizarre. No blitzing on defense? If we had blitzed, Rivers would have been killed. Thank goodness we ran the prevent defense on the last drive. It prevented us from winning.
On offense we ran one misdirection the entire game. WTF?
We have a very talented football team with no quarterback and very little creative thinking on the sidelines. The coordinators should be forced to watch film of the Steeler defense and the Boise State offense.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
92 flat dominated.

DHB has been injured most of Training Camp. Dude get you head out of you know what.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
I just wish Al Davis would let the d coach do his job a little switch up …..great game but jamarcus needs to practise all the time.

…………………………
yea bra’, i agree, defence SHOWED UP TO PLAY!!!
but, cant blame the prevent for everything, point is-we had so many 3 and outs, and our dfence was on field almost ALL of 2nd half…they got tired, thats why they took it up our gut at the end…
September 14th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
I bever believed the ref bias against the Raiders until tonight. That take-away of Murphy’s TD was obscene. Where is the Commissioner?
The good news is this was no Raider blow-out. Everyone played their hearts out. The defense was physical and tough against the run. The O is coming together. Who called that useless prevent D at the end? Don’t they every learn?
September 14th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
I’m telling you, Murphy had some moments but you can’t beat good teams starting two rookie WRs. That first pick took points off the board and that was all on Murphy. Ran an extemely sloppy out route and didn’t go after the ball aggressively. JaMarcus has to throw to a spot and Murph needed to get there.
JaMarcus did throw about 5 passes that were ridiculously off the mark, but he wasn’t getting any help on the other end except for Miller and the bomb to Murphy.
And still, the D just needed one stop with the Chargers starting on their own 11 and we win that game.
At least it was a very good team effort. Seymour is a huge addition. But and the end of the day it’s still 0-1.
MF.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Lot of drops too. DHB dropped at least two. McFadden dropped one or two. JLH dropped the one when he got smacked. I think there was at least one other one in there.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
DHB has been injured?? LOL!! OK. How many Pre-season games he miss?? Keep making excuses…

@53 Tonio, only stat that matters is the final score. We lost, bad teams lose these games, good teams shut the door. Sad to say but we still are not a good team (yet).

I JUST ..
September 14th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
…the d shoulda stepped up.. we had them where we wanted them… line backers shoulda played closer… despite the calls made by whomever… you dont run back 15 yards when they need 12 for the first down… it’s not the caller is it? I’m out.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
The defenese played well all night. At the end though theres no way the linebackers should have kept playing so far back. They picked us apart. Yes we got robbed a touchdown at the end of the first half but thats not what cost us the game. What really cost us the game is what going away from the running game. What in the world was our coaching staff doing. The offensive line and running backs were dominating in the 1st quarted and then all of a sudden someone decided we would become a pass first time. Thats ridiculous

agreed Nyc… yet… closer …but still a ways to go
September 14th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
Does anyone remember when Mel Gray a receiver for the then St Louis cards caught a TD in the end zone, with both feet down then someone punched it out from the back?
Refs called it a TD said as long as he had it in his hands with both feet down it counts.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
If Seymour reads this comments section tonight, seeing people blame the defense in the end for not stepping up and making the worst defensive scheme in football work, he will pack his luggage and go right back the F home, and retire. It’s not worth it. Sapp talked about this. Using defenses that work, only for them to be scrapped.

So I finally see the score by Murphy, haul ass out of my dorm room, get down to my car and turn on the radio. By that time the Chargers are at the thirty, and I got to listen to the whole final collapse.
What a heartbreaker. A hell of a game, but a heartbreaker none the less.
I can’t believe they blew this one.
The ugly old prevent defense rears its head again.
Still, I’m more up beat about the season than I was before.

Thesis of today: CHANGING OF THE GUARD
Buffalo loss to NE but NE doesn’t have it anymore. Brady is not the Brady of old …he’s worried about the knee. The defense is not as good as it once was either.
Oakland loss today but they flat out kicked SD’s ass. The Raiders have definitely gotten better and getting better than SD. LT is done.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
FUKK IT ALL TO HELL
September 14th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
On the bright side, if we give that kind of effort vs. Denver and KC we should roll to 20-point wins.
That’s a big IF though. I can’t remember the last time I saw a Raider team play with that kind of fire.
The crowd was definitely energizing them.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:08 pm

Tonio, another year of choking by Al’s prevent, another year of blaming the players for not executing it. If I’m Seymour, I’m going back to plan A, and going home. Tell Al Davis, “sorry, but I will not come here and be scapegoated for your b.s.”.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
If the Louis Murphy isn’t screwed out of a touchdown the Raiders win as well.
=============================================
John Marshall has this D playing well. Now would someone please tell him to put a LB on the back coming out of the backfield?
If Russell had better throws and timing with his WRs, we win. If we could cover backs coming out of the backfield, we win. If both those problems were fixed, we blow them out!

September 14th, 2009 at 11:08 pm
Chaz Schilens may have been the wild card as was sproles was in this game… Chaz was the wild card with or without seymour… and if he was on, … it may have opened things up with Murphy and DHB.. other than miller.
The Dolts needed some help from the zebras to win this game.. that was the other wild card. the Murphy Touchdown. that is Tuck rule game status there.
bull crap.
We can beat the crap out of this San Diego team and they know it.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
We snatched defeat from the jaws of victory again. Why does our defense always change in critical moments. Can there really be that many idiots in the organization? Let Seymour call the defense . He knows how a defense wins games. TOTAL waste of a good effort
September 14th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Yeah, Brady was TERRIBLE!!!
Terp,
You are a certified moron.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Three thoughts then off to bed to dream of an honest NFL.
Wonder how the USFL or whatever its called is going to do. The NFL just plain suuuuxxxxx… it serves only as a platform for my fantasy teams, which are growing to be more and more unpredicatble due to the poor play arouned the league.
I have to agree that the Murphy TD overturn was highway robbery. They said that it was due to the ball coming loose at the end – you mean after he was down and then getting up when the play was over?
Funny how the Raiders lose but still beat the spread 5.5 points at gametime.
Prevent defense prevents victory.
Go team. Good night.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
For those of you that tried to downplay the loss of Chaz Schilens, now what do you have to say? Russell has absolutely no timing with any of his rookie WRs with the exception of the long pass where Murphy was WIDE open.
Chaz – get well buddy!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Get Green the f outta here! Enough of that BS!
Although JR get us the lead the loss is mostly on him and the WRs. JR was inaccurate to them but on a few of the plays the WRs were not running the proper routes (Murphy & JLH I remember)
September 14th, 2009 at 11:09 pm
Here’s a few of my observations:
- Jamarcus still needs work, but I don’t think he should be benched. If we run the ball and use him as a lead blocker (see him lead and dive into a block on that one reverse play we run). lol
- The Bush/McFadden combo works. Trade Fargas and get what you can.
- Louis Murphy and Schillens starting will be something to watch.
- The Oline played really good today, aside from Green.
- Seymour was worth it.
- Seymour looked pissssed off at the end of the game.
- That hit by Mitchell was hopefully a sign of better things to come.
- “Prevent the Prevent!”
- Our D looked very good overall.
- we can beat KC if we play them with this intensity.
- we saw what a pro bowl caliber veteran did for our D, now we need to get one in our O. Preferable in the line at RT.
And finally, that was a TD. Even Norv said it to Cable as they were shaking hands at the end of the game. You didn’t need to be a lip reader to see it, it was clear as day.
I just hope the team doesn’t regress. Let’s build on today. This is a very young team, and we are making strides. Schillens and Murphy will help. Put DHB in as the #3 now that Higgins might be hurt.
Let’s beat KC and Denver and we are 2-1. Not a bad start.

Well, there goes my prediction of Murphy’s two touchdowns and winning in spectacular fashion, the zebras screwed us yet again.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
yea terrapin, def improved DRAMATICALLY!
woulda loved a W though, … woulda lovd our touchdown to murphy…woulda lovd the D to get some rest and offence to get a 1st in that span of 3 n outs…
September 14th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
I love how when espn shows game highlights they act like the refs made the right call on murphy’s td
September 14th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
couple of thoughts….
September 14th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
This is when I hate being a Raiders fan almost ain’t good enough these dumb @$$es always find a way to blow a game.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
WE SHOULD ALL FILE A GRIEVANCE FOR THAT BULL CRAP CALL.
LOUIS MURPHY, TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
Terp,
Like you know what the proper routes are! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
I saw more positives than negatives tonight. The running game was clicking early and I wanted to see more of it. The passing game has to include more than Zach Miller over the middle. Richard Seymour made a much needed impact on the Dline. getting closer…
September 14th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
first, coz i cheated – theme of murphy no TD call?
September 14th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
it doesn’t matter what kind of defense was called.. but a good corner blitz would have been good.. ala woodsen on brady in 01 playoffs tuck rule game
September 14th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
They really need to re-evaluate that rule on the Murphy TD. You can run the ball dive into the endzone and lose it but as long as you have it across the plane it counts meanwhile if you catch a ball not only do you have to have 2 feet down but you have to hold it as you fall to the ground. I dont know seems a little off to me obviously i wouldnt care normally but I just feel like any rule that is a little scetchy always finds its way to us on the wrong side.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
When i look at the top defenseive teams they attack at the end of games. they send more rushers in. we should have been blizing in the end, and our LB’s were giving up way to much. Put this one on the coaches, and JRUSS.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
The D-Line led by 92, Dominated all night.
Tom Cable got very conservative in the 3rd & 4th qtrs. Run, run, pass on 3rd. Sitting on a 10-10 tie. Typical.
The Defensive play-calling at the end, very soft. Typical too.
One of the Coaches needs to step up and take a fine for the team, regarding the officiating.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
I told everyone Murphy is the second coming of Tim Brown.
Had we actually one the game it would have been a toss up between Murphy and of all people, Seabass for stopping Sproils on two of his huge returns.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
Someone actually just said Bush should play over freakn MCFadden!! Where the f do you idiots come from?
September 14th, 2009 at 11:12 pm

I’ve seen this movie way too many times. Did Rob Ryan really leave?

Remove the prevent from the defensive play books… How many games are lost to the prevent?
DHB where u at homie???????
JRUSS looked like garb…..
September 14th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
Yeah the D coaching was TERRIBLE!! Again, where do you idiots come from??
September 14th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
I agree Kush. If you’re gonna have 3 LBs standing around at the sticks like a bunch of idiots, why not blitz one or two of them. They didn’t even cover Sproles releasing from the backfield.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
No need to blitz if you are getting pressure with the front 4. But they got tired in the end …that’s when they should’ve started blitzing
September 14th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
DID WE BLITZ ONCE ?
September 14th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
No actually they started passing on 1st down. running on 2nd and passing on 3rd a lot. Where 1st-2nd quarters we ran a lot and were beating down the charger defense. At least Cable admitted 1 of the coaching flaws because the team played good enough to scrape out a victory but the coaching in the 2nd half wass questionable. The players were just making plays most the game
September 14th, 2009 at 11:14 pm
You guys need to calm down. So, we aren’t as good as the Chargers – a team that most everybody on ESPN and NFLN has going to the Superbowl. Was I disappointed with the loss? Yes, of course. But, I feel a lot better about our season now than I did a week ago. After the preseason game against the Saints I was expecting us to get blown out, straight demolished by Rivers and LT. I was having nightmares about Merriman sacking Russell 6 times. None of that happened. Russell was sacked only once and had plenty of time to throw the ball the majority of the game. LT was completely shut down and our D line gave Rivers fits all night. The Raiders had 3 sacks, the Chargers had 1. Bring on the weak azz Chefs and Donkeys.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
They got reps ALL F in TRAINING CAMP YOU FREAKN MORON!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Russell having 2 rookie WR’s.
Give him his murphy tds and he has
13/30 240 yds, 2 tds, 2 int
nothing that bad considering his #1 WR is out and he has 2 rookies in there
September 14th, 2009 at 11:15 pm
the Chargers beat us the same way we could have beat the niners in preseason
September 14th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
BUSH NEED 2 LEARN HOW TO KEEP DA BALL DOWN. DA O COORDINATORS NEED TO RUN SCREEENS , I WAS HAPPY 2 SEE DAT REVERSE , MY DIKK GOT HARD . AND DA SAFETIES PLAYED WELL.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
Our linebakers play to damn soft. When will they relize that they are not corners they are LBs. Why were they playing so d@mn deep. Dumb MFs gave P-Riv all day to check down.
While the D is giving SD the game for free, stupid A$$ Russel is on the bench with his freakin winter hat looking like frossty the snow man smiling like he is some rap star on tour. Russel, you can’t hit the side of an RV in the parking lot. Close or not they suck at giving up games!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
Im not excusing Russells bad play, however it is unrealistic to believe that Gradkowski would do any better with this group of receivers. There is a reason that Bruce is with his 4th team in 4 years, hes not an NFL starting QB. Hes barely a backup, this guy has a similar skillset to Tuiasosopo. He can move a little bit and throw the short passes, but forget about stretching the field because this guy is going to live and die with the 5 yard pass.
Russell is our guy for now, just gotta accept it. Hopefully he will get in sync with these receivers and improve his accuracy. I was hoping we would hang onto Garcia for insurance, but he wanted out and we cut bait. He didnt want to be here therefore good riddance.
If this team can run the football and the defense plays with the type of energy they did tonight, we wont need Russell to do a whole lot. If we can just get Russell to hit about 55 percent of his throws and make the occasional big play, like the bomb to Murphy, we will have a chance to stay competitive. I know some people expect more out of a #1 pick, but right now Russell hasnt developed enough and he doesnt have the weapons around him to do anything more than manage the game. Gotta play the hand youre dealt and this is our hand.
As for the “Al Davis” defense, the man to man was working. The zone got us killed. Year after year many teams make the mistake of going to the prevent late in games, its not just the Raiders.
We played pretty well tonight, there were some positives. Just gotta hope we can improve upon those positives and move forward. Keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best, its all we can do.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
In my opinion, whenever you have a lead with 2 minutes to go and the opponent is backed up to their 11 yd line,
the loss has to go to the defense.
You have to play 60 min. of football. Playing 52 minutes isn’t good enough.
It’s like boxing, when you have your opponent against the ropes, you go for the knockout. You don’t back up and start jabbing.
We should have went for the knockout. The defense played good overall, but they didn’t play to finish off the Chargers.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
I KMEAN RUSSELL NEED 2 LEARN HOW 2 KEEP BALL DOWN. WISH WE HAD A GREAT O COORDINATOR. OUR DEFENSE IS READY. KIRK MORRISON IS JUST OUT THERE THO ,,,
September 14th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
The linebackers lost this game. If you are trying to keep everything in front of you you have to play in front of the first down marker, not behind it.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
DA TEAM IS SO TALENTED . DEES GUYS DESERVE TO WIN ..
September 14th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
They did not play a prevent defense, do you even know what that is?
Ricky Brown did not cover Sproles on the release. Not quite sure why he had the assignment.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
Cable just admitted that we gave too much underneath on D today. i hope he learns.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
No need to blitz in this game. The D-Line got plenty of pressure.
But that damn prevent Defense, AGAIN. That must be one of Davis’ favorites. Because every D Coordinator we have uses it.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:18 pm

2. JRUSS

The front 4 played fantastic they were in Rivers grill all day but man our LB core was pathetic how many drop offs can we give . No need to blitz we caused pressure all day with 4.
GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!
03-09 DAMN 7 STRAIGHT OPENING LOSSES
September 14th, 2009 at 11:18 pm
The linebackers played in front of the first down marker, not behind it.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
Yeah! DHB can’t run a reverse for crying out loud?
September 14th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
No need to blitz? Ridiculous. You always need to blitz. The worst thing to be in football is predictable.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
The loss does go to JR and the WRs. They could’ve blown SD out if they connected. But I honestly believe its more of a reps issue and familiarity issue. He doesn’t have these problems with Miller and Schilens.
THAT MURPHY CALLED WAS UNBELIEVABLE! But I like that the Raiders kept playing and just forgot about it.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
Ok
SD has Baltimore, Miami, and Pit in the next four
Denver has Cleve, Oak, and Dallas
KC has Oak, Philly, and giants
I think we finish 3-1, SD 2/2, Denver 2/2 and KC 0-4.
I like our chances very much to build momentum.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
I had this game as a loss before the season began. Would have liked to see a win, but the worst thing for the Raiders is needing a stop to win a game.
Raiders have a very good chance to win the next 3 games though.
Unless Cable continues to doubt his teams ability to win.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:21 pm
They had the ball on the 11, we did not attck we sat back on D… Thats on the coaches whoever is calling the plays at the end of this game needs to get fired…
F the prevent…..
September 14th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
I blame this game on jamarcus. There were to many points he left on the board. He has no accuracy at all. I saw jlh open with day light and he overthrew em. You complete those passes and we’re probably up 31-10. And whats so bad about it is the line actually gave him time. Sanchez has only played 1 nfl in hIs carrer and is all ready light years ahead of this dude.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
San diego will start 1-3 they suc……..
Our D coaches suc, rush 4 all game, guys were tired should have rushed more… let rivers see some 8 in the box…….
September 14th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Why blitz if you front 4 is getting pressure? Explain please.
They could have blitzed at the end b/c the line was gassed but to say that had to blitz all game is a little ridiculous.
HERE COMES THE WORLD PRESS POLICE

September 14th, 2009 at 11:24 pm
did anyone of u morons see murphy catch the TD
September 14th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
I hope it was just a bad day for Russell and that we will not see this type of “BUST” performance again. Russell was horrible…he couldn’t hit the side of a barn. Our wide receivers have a long way to go…Hurry back Schilens.
The TD they robs us from was one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen. Totally ridicules. He came down with both feet in the end zone, had control of the ball for over two seconds and even when he hit the ground he kept possession of the ball. THE STRANGES THING WAS THAT I KNEW THEY WOULD MAKE THE CALL AGAINST US…NEVER HAD ANY DOUBT, WHEN THEY TOOK SO LONG TO COME BACK WITH THE CALL. IT’S LIKE PART OF OUR LEGACY…IT’S NOTHING NEW AND NOTHING THAT WILL EVER STOP…IT’S THE LEAGUES WAY OF KEEPING US DOWN AND IN CHECK. SUCKS…
September 14th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
JaWalruss sucks. Plain and simple. He doesn’t have it, and he never will. You don’t teach talent, you don’t teach skill, you don’t teach that inside ability. He doesn’t have it, and it’s obvious. He lost this game single handedly tonight. He was flat out terrible.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Thec,
Explain the prevent d. Tell us all what it is the d did that was prevent.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Time out for excuses rookies or not where the hell is DHB???????
September 14th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
this was like a heavy weight boxing match. The division champ won but walked away mortally wounded. The chokers got beat up so badly tonite that there’s no way their line is going to hold up or Philips for that matter.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Gotta start blitzing on occasion. The d-line was in Rivers’ head and if he saw an extra man or two shooting up the middle he would’ve folded like a cheap suit.
Also, they need to stunt with Trevor Scott starting at end and looping around the DT. Absolutely no doubt in my mind this would be tremendously successful.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
Damn, we were so close. So close…
The offense pulled a miracle out of you know where, and we have nothing to show for it.
We held the Chargers to 77 yards rushing.
We held Phillip Rivers to a sub par game.
Lack of good refereeing and lack of execution on defense in crunch time killed us.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:26 pm
I say we get out our night sticks and club the hell out of KC next week!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
What happened to running the ball down the bolts throat? Why can everyone see whats wrong with our play calls and schemes but the guys calling the plays? I will not spend another dime on a game until we make some changes.
why did they change and only rush three at the end of the game?
September 14th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Our D-Line is so solid right now…it’s our LBs that are a liability. I actually blame the LB coach because we were out of position so many times on those Sproles underneath passes. I actually though Gradkowski was running the offence better than JRuss, but he could never make that throw to Murphy. DHB is crap and choked big time tonight…not even close to the player that Murphy is. It all came down to that BS call on the 1st Murphy TD. 4 frickin points cost us the game.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
Raiders will be 2-1 in short order if they keep playing like this and esp when Schilens gets back.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:27 pm
You like our chances? We don’t have a chance as long as JaWallruss is our starting QB. Too bad he didn’t stay down.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Russell does suck, three years in the league and can’t hit an open receiver? Third quarter when the defense was smacking ‘em chargers around and you can’t put together a couple of plays together for a score? On the plus side I do feel better about this performance than last season’s opener though.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Is Chaz Schilens a 5 time All Pro or something??
September 14th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
Yeah Russels game is terrible and his playing weight is crazy. He is built like he is ready to retire.
His passing is horrible an dhe does not look off his WRs he leads the D right to the play with his eyes.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
Russell damn near got JLH killed.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:30 pm
The D stepped up except our stupid ass LBS not knowing where they are on the field.
I hate this team! I am out!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
If Garcis in that game, raiders win easily,..12 for 30 is awful…russell proved hes a bust tonight…I already knew it though.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
The D-Line almost sacks Rivers twice on the last drive. But, Marshall had the linebackers dropping 10yds, and Sproles just ate us up underneath all the way down the field.
The commentators were talking about it. But nobody in our booth upstairs noticed, I guess.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
Jamarcus looks like some guy they pulled out of the stands to play quarterback.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:31 pm

September 14th, 2009 at 11:31 pm

Pathetic!
I want to know….I DEMAND to know if it was AL or Marshall behind the prevent….total HORSE SH|t!!!!

And why/how exactly will a second year receiver, comming off an injury, only started a few games, all of a sudden make JaWallruss better?

Bottom line is this. We we’re robbed by 4 points. JRuss looks like a steaming multimillion dollar piece of crap. The D looked pretty good tonight. Yeah we gave up ass towards the end of the game. But if JRuss would pull his fat head out of his butt and earn a few $$$$$s that he’s being paid, we win this one. But out of the past 6 seasons, this start gives me the most hope that I’ve seen. Seymore, 2.5 days of practice time, 2 sacks, plenty of pressure, what more could you ask for. Our D is playing pretty good so far. If our O pulls their weight without the bad calls from the refs, we win this game. I’m pretty disheartened, but after the way the Raider D played, it still give’s me hope. If only we would have a decent QB, we might be dangerous. Jamarcus, pull your head out of your butt and earn your paycheck!!!!!!!!!!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
Russells mechanics and foot work are alot of the reason for his piss poor accuracy. When he throws in the middle of the field (to miller) he is ok, when he throws to the left or right his foot work and fat FKN body have him in a mess!
He needs to lose 20 lbs and get his mechanics str8 or retire young, fat, and rich!
Sad to say but Russell is going to hold this team back.

End of game zero attacking…
Rushing 3 dropping 8 into coverage.
or
Rushing 4 dropping 7 into coverage.
The front 4 was gassed, and playing against some fresh bodies up front…. We should have attacked.
Lost balls go to
1. Defensive Coaches
2. JRUSS
September 14th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
JRuss?
How about DMac’s fumble that gave SD helluva field position?
How about Branch giving up that 24 yd catch to Gates on 3rd and 12 that set up their first TD?
Routt looking right at the pass to Jackson, but jumping too soon and giving up the 6?
J Russ was not the problem. The guy misses one pass and they started talking about Garcia. After they agreed he should’ve been up 14-10, and that Murphy ran a bad route for his ONE int.
Cmon!

September 14th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
maybe we should have kicked the onside kick after we scored the td. might have gave us more time in the event that they scored. might have played tighter if they had better field position to begin with.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Raider Raul your post 166 is right on the money.
Our D-Line is finally a force to be reckoned with. Thomas Howard is a beast. The rest of our linebackers are suspect. They don’t attack, they don’t dominate, they aren’t where they need to be on the field.
Our linebackers coach is not doing his job in my opinion. The linebackers are supposed to be IN FRONT OF THE 1ST DOWN MARKER, NOT BEHIND IT!!!
That’s why Sproles killed us on those check downs.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:37 pm
jamarcus should be our RT not Qb. You guys see that block he made?

September 14th, 2009 at 11:40 pm
Many of you guys have pointed out the obvious and it’s a killer. Our “linebackers” either suck, or it’s our linebacker coach who sucks and Cable is responsible. Play after play on the final drive, we allowed the same play to the halfback coming out of the back and taking a short pass and running for ten to 15 yards because our stupids LB’s were dropping so far back…PLAY, AFTER PLAY, AFTER PLAY…UNBELIEVABLE!!!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:40 pm
Bench Russell until he can learn to throw accurately. I think if they had left Gradkowski in there tonight the game would have been ours. The D showed up for most the game except for that last series. Why do they change something that’s been working? I just don’t get it. At first we were absolutely kicking their butts with the running game. Then, someone thought we ought to have Russell throw. Brilliant! If we have to play Russell then just stick to handing off and short swing passes. That, he can probably handle. Anything else is a stretch.
Tonight’s loss was 100% on Russell & the coaching staff. Seymore is a stud and is worth everything we gave for him.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:41 pm
Sorry, #193.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
Our run game dried up because SD had ZERO respect for our passing game and stuffed the line. And J Russell couldn’t exploit that! He is an embarrassment!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
Some of you guys just don’t think.
Did you ever think to ask yourself how can JR be so accurate with Miller, Schilens (and to a much lesser extent JLH); but yet not be so much so with DHB, Murphy etc.?
Some of those passes should have been caught, others were way off the mark, others were the WRs fault.
JR will be fine. This guy has tremendous talent.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
Gentlemen,
Be happy. We are not the same Raiders. we played a hell of a game and another play here or there we win. I was happily surprised of what we put out there. Just wait till chaz heals and richard learns the playbook. we will be something special this year.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:42 pm
as much as I would have loved to win this game it’s game one of 16 and I feel alot better than last year
September 14th, 2009 at 11:42 pm

September 14th, 2009 at 11:43 pm

JRUSS is not looking so good right now. Compared to the rookies coming out now he is horrible….
September 14th, 2009 at 11:43 pm
I was pretty happy when he came back in, and for all intents and purposes won the game for us.
Don’t get me wrong, he wasn’t impressive, but I’m assuming he just had a bad game.
Now if he repeats this sort of performance over and over, than we have a problem.

Yes we lost but this game is a huge improvement.
The last three games last season were no fluke, we’re on our way back!
We held them to 77 rushing yards. Semour just got off a plane and and he had 6 tackles and 2 sacks. We ran for 183 yards.
Russell threw for 208 yards. When Schiellens gets back he’ll throw for more.
The defense couldn’t hold them in that last drive because the Dischargers are really good but we’re back and we’re going to battle them for the division!
RAIDERS BUMAYE!!! RAIDERS BUMAYE!!!
September 14th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
Jamarcus played well enough for us to win… we got robbed and the team made some rookie/youth mistakes that veterans make… such as LT fumbling.. its part of the game. the game Jruss does not fumble, he throws an INT. wish we had chilens or even walker… DHB and Murphy are good but need to be groomed into the offense like chaz and JLH were last year.
i knew we would be good. but i did not count on getting robbed. wonder what John Madden has to say about this now that he is volunteering for the NFL
September 14th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
I got the 209 post.. putting it down for Lathrop, CA and the Stockton area mother foes!!!!!

They need to divide the field for this lug head in his 3rd FKN year ?
Thats how a defense can tee off and kill your WR’s….this meatball cant use both sides of the field ???? GIVE ME A FKN BREAK!
Play Gradkowski next week! Russell can play when he loses 20 lbs how about that sh|t ????
September 14th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
Short-sighted fans. This team played with a lot of heart today but just didn’t pull it off for miscellaneous reasons. But make no mistake – they flat out, physically kicked SDs ass.
I saw the playcalling protecting the rookie WRs a lot.
Going into a Prime Time Monday night game with 2 rookies starting is not an easy task.
JR loss us the game and he won us the game.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
Raiders got robbed?…lol…you guys sure like to lean on excuses,…the raiders always piss their pants while playin the chargers,…sd lost all kinds of players and still punched the raiders in the face,…rivers is great,..russell is a total loser….damn even rook sanches is way better already.

Gus,
Im sorry to say but you are a horses a$$ if you think Russell played well enough…are you serious ?
September 14th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
I am so tired of this crap.
I hope Seymour makes his presence known in the lockeroom like he did on the field.
Someone needs to get pissed and stop be satisfied with moral victories.
Saw Cable talking about how excited he is in how far this team has come and can’t wait to get to work on the KC game.
That sounds like comments from a winning coach.
When Cable stops being scared of losing and starts believing this team can win, they might actually have something.
Also heard Steve Young say they ran 20% of the playbook last year and opened it up to 80% this year because Russell has improved so much.
WTF? Again, Cable is scared to open the playbook and acts like he is building a college program. THIS IS THE NFL. If Russell can’t handle the playbook, he should not be starting.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
It’s hard to say about Russell with 2 rookie WR’s and only ONE is any good.
How many did Bey drop?
Were the WR’s where they were supposed to be?
2 TD’s to Murphy were both on the money.
September 14th, 2009 at 11:49 pm

September 14th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
Mistabrown…you’re so right. Russell sucked so bad, they were able to slow down our run when they knew Russell couldn’t hit an open receiver, if and when one got open. Other than Rick Miller…a pro bowler for sure. Russell is either a total BUST…and overpaid millions and millions of dollars. He looks at one receiver and they misses him by a mile and almost gets picked off..or he does get picked off. We were lucky they dropped a few potential interceptions. It could have been worst.
PS: If the league doesn’t admit to the horrendous call and apologize to the Raiders…then it proves they conspire against us all the time….PERIOD.

C’mon JB ….you don’t call throwing a TD pass with the game on the line leadership?
He had a tough game. He had rookie WRs so you must factor that in. There’s just a lack of familiarity there. You see the effects of familiarity with Miller and Schilens.
I said it before. He cost us the game along with the defense at the end. I’m not giving him a pass. But its all a progression. Ups and downs until it all comes together. That’s just the progression of young QBs. Eli Manning had many bad games – worse than this one.

“JR will be fine. This guy has tremendous talent.”
*****************************
I normally agree with most of your observations but I can’t let this one go bye. Aside from being able to launch a long throw, what tremendous talent have you discovered? He can’t run, he’s got terrible footwork, his accuracy is below NFL starting QB standards, after 2 1/2 years he’s still only got 80% of the playbook, his touch passing isn’t, he’s not a good scrambler, he’s yet to show us he’s a team leader, etc., etc., etc. So please tell us about all this talent you are talking about.
Right now he’s no better than most back-up QB’s. He’s certainly not starting material yet.

San Diego gets 166 yards in the final 2 drives.
Wow. Russell only had 208 yards passing all night and needed a 50+ yard TD on 4th down to get that.

September 15th, 2009 at 12:03 am
JaMarcus was inconsistent and deserves a fair amount of criticism for this loss, but, he did leave the field with a lead and 2 minutes to go. He only took 1 sack. His two picks: 1 was Murphy’s fault for running a sloppy route and not going after the ball aggressively; and a hail mary pass.
Also, with the game on the line late in the 4th quarter, after getting injured and having to leave for a couple of plays, facing 3rd and 15 he throws a perfect strike to JLH for what should’ve been a first-down. And on the very next play throws a perfect strike to Murphy for a 57-yard TD. You’ve gotta like the poise late in the game by J-Russ.
Definitely some wildly errant throws. But also a lot of drops of good passes too. Ran for a pair of first downs too.
It’s still a loss. But we really did beat down a team that’s a lot of prognosticators’ Super Bowl darling.
Play like that all year, and we’re a 10-6 team.

I don’t usually post, bt I’m posting now. Was this a tough loss? Yes. Did that ref screw us on Murphy’s TD? Yes? HAS THE BAR BEEN RAISED FOR 2009? HELL YES.
There is no reason this team can’t go into Kansas City and blow the Chiefs out of Arrowhead.
There is no reason this team doen’t come back to the Black Hole and smack the Broncos.
This is a young team that must learn to win. Say want you want about JaMarcus, but when the chips were down on 4th & 15, he threw a freaking 57 yard TD.
The NFL is on notice. No more quitting, no more blowouts, No more giving up 200 rushing yards per game.
The Raiders are much better than last year.
Can you dig it?
September 15th, 2009 at 12:04 am
look guys,
the bottom line is that we had the lead and the play calling of Marshall lost us the game at the end on both drives. At least Cable acknowledged it that teh LB’s were too deep. I am sure you will never see them call that play again this season.
You guys noticed at the end that Morrison was not in there and only Brown and Howard.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Enough with making excuse for Jamarcus Russell. Enough time has gone by for him to be or not to be an NFL caliber QB. Other supposedly less talented rookie QB’s have come into this league and done well. Some, VERY WELL. The problem is that our guy is not one of them. Right now I’d take Andrew Walter back. At least he was accurate.
September 15th, 2009 at 12:10 am
Sorry Terrapin, no more breaks or waiting for Russell to grow into his position. His long ball was so wide open I’d hope he was able to hit that one. There was no special skill there, 80-90% of all NFL QB’s would have hit a receiver that open.
This is the NFL. Right now JR is on a level equal with Alex Smith. The only difference is that he’s already been proclaimed a BUST. Unless JR turns around 180 degrees in a matter of weeks, he too will be declared BUST.
September 15th, 2009 at 12:11 am

There is a lot of blame to go around…that’s for sure. But the coaching staff has to take a lot of heat as well.
Especially that last drive with our “stupid-ass-prevent defense, especially the dropping back of our line backers, ALL THREE, instead of keeping at least one to “SPY” on Sproles, their main weapon. Also who plays 10 yards off of Gates and allows him to pickup 10 and 15 yards at a clip? ANSWER: RAIDERS!

———————–
Not gonna happen. If the D plays like it did tonight we’re beating KC and Denver by 20+.

I gotta be real here!
1. The referees blew that call in the end zone! Another example of the Raiders getting ripped off…there needs to be conclusive evidence to overturn a call…Louis Murphy caught that pass period…2 feet down, backside down…touchdown!
2. IN CAPS ON PURPOSE! I DONT WANT TO HEAR A FREEKN WORD ON JAMARCUS RUSSELL! HE MADE THE PLAYS WHEN IT MATTERED! HE FOUND ZACH MILLER WHEN HE WAS OPEN! GIVE ME CHAZ SCHILENS AND LOUIS MURPHY, WITH MILLER AND WE WILL BE GOOD FOR THIS YEAR!
3. Cornell Green has to go! Period!
4. The defensive coordinator lost this game AGAIN! HOW MANY FREEKN TIMES DO WE HAVE TO SEE PREVENT FREEKN DEFENSE IN THE 4TH QUARTER GOD BLESS IT!!!!!!! PLAY THE GAME THE WAY THAT GOT YOU THERE! THE COACHES LOST THIS GAME PERIOD!!!!!!!!! I HOPE THEY LEARNED THEIR LESSON! AL DAVIS OR JOHN MARSHALL OR WHOEVER HAS TO UNLEASH THE DOGS FOR 4 FREEKN QUARTERS….NOT 3.5 QUARTERS BUT 4 FREEKN QUARTERS….GOD BLESS IT!!!!!!!
5. Cable forgot about the running game in the 3rd quarter. I don’t want to see Fargas period.
6. The defense, sans the last drive, is better than I could EVER dream of. Seymour is a beast PERIOD! and he elevated the play of EVERYONE around him! John Marshall…its all on him!
We should of could and would of…but didn’t
I expect THIS TEAM based on what I seen….to beat soundly the Chiefs, Broncos and Texans……and have something for the Chargers when we play them again.
HOOOOOOORAYYYYYYY FOR THE RUN DEFENSE! BOOOOOOOOOOOO THAT PREVENT STUFF THAT….I DON’T KNOW WHERE IT COMES FROM.
I swear I have seen prevent lose more games for the rAiders over the last few years….STOP PLAYING THAT PREVENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 15th, 2009 at 12:14 am
Im noticing the same brain deads that saw something in Fargas are the same meat heads still licking Russells salty nuts.

the person who controls this blog wont let the truth out….just curious…why?

QUESTION: If we could trade “straight-up” Russell for Mark Sanchez, would you make the trade? Based on todays game, yes. We’ll see how he performs against KC and Denver and then we’ll know for sure if he’s a BUST or had a bad hair day.
September 15th, 2009 at 12:16 am
Man, did Seymour make an impact or what?
I saw Esprit de Corps all over the Defense.
Until the Coaches called off the dogs, of course.
September 15th, 2009 at 12:17 am
say watcha want about russell, but he did regain the lead wit two minutes left . why wasn’t a safety on sproles ? the refs gave s.d the game . murphy catches the ball takes two steps falls the ball comes out no touchdown. B.S ! chargers last drive a block in the back on te sproles swing pass right in front of the ref ,h doesn’t see it ? B.S. the raidersaregonna be an exciting team likei said all along . chargers needed help. it will be hard to beat oakland at home. seamore gave usa sample the defense will be good also !
September 15th, 2009 at 12:19 am
Defenses are going to eat JR alive. He locks on to his receiver he locks into the side of the field hes throwing too. U dont think NFL coordinators arent going to kill this guy?
Dream.
September 15th, 2009 at 12:19 am
WE HAD NO WIDE RECEIVER PRESENCE TODAY…NOTHING. WHERE IN THE HELL IS JAVON “I’ll spray you with $1500.00 bottles of champayne” WALKER. HE WAS SUPPOSE TO BE THE COME BACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR…HE CAN’T EVEN SUIT UP FOR OUR OPENER. WHAT A FREAKING WASTE… NICE PICKUP, MR DAVIS. YOU ALLOWED THIS GUY TO “RIP YOU OFF FOR MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.”
September 15th, 2009 at 12:20 am
the team lost the game not one man.we had 4 points taken away and physically dominated sd. we put out several charger players and really whipped these guys up. layin em out all game long. its one game people and we did play a team that is considered to be a superbowl contender. if this is kc or denver game over early. dont think chaz being out doesnt hurt.

100% correct!

Walker said he was ready to play they held him out. We could have used some veteran presence out there no question but who would throw him the ball?
JaMeatball ?
September 15th, 2009 at 12:24 am
j-russ did f-up when we had momentum to put the game away in the 4th …. but he did show poise taking the lead. seems like seymore was in the game in the lats series. schilens will make a huge difference. would have in this game. suckas can hate on j-russ but oakland will win games this year ! period …
expect to win !

IN CAPS ON PURPOSE BECAUSE I AM HOT RIGHT NOW!
WHY ON EARTH DO THE RAIDERS BRUTALIZE THEMSELVES BY PLAYING THIS SOFT DEFENSE IN THE 4TH QTR! NO EXCUSE….THE COACHES LOST THIS GAME PERIOD!!!!! NOT RUSSELL! NOT THE LINE….NOT THE PLAYERS OR THE FREEKN FANS!
THE COACHES LOST THIS GAME WITH THAT ATROCIOUS 4TH QTR PLAYCALLING AGAIN!
THIS STINKS OF THE BUFFALO, S.D, MIAMI GAMES FROM LAST YEAR.
‘
DEFENSE HAS TO STEP UP WHEN IT MATTERS!
September 15th, 2009 at 12:27 am
the zebras overturn of the first Murphy TD changes the dynamic of the game. We should not go down quietly about this injustice!!!!!
September 15th, 2009 at 12:27 am
I know Russell won’t be able to sleep tonight off his horrendous performance, so I guess he’ll be at the local “FAT-BURGER,” eating triple-triple cheese and bacon burgers, with multiple sides of fries and onion rings and many malls to waste everything down. The a large apple pie from Marie Callendars, or better yet, a freaking cheese cake. Ya, you fat tub…lose some weight, you’re getting paid enough.
September 15th, 2009 at 12:31 am
the ref’s gave the chargers the game………
oakland will gain respect of the league.
j-russ didn’ lose the game . he just didn’t put the game away in the 3rd (my mistake, not the 4th). marshall should learn from this game to kep bringing the heat… question why is rankin returning kick-offs ?
September 15th, 2009 at 12:32 am
Russell is going to cost Cable his job, if you think AL is going to chose his 60 mil dollar meatball over a coach think again!
September 15th, 2009 at 12:33 am
Remember that movie Groundhog Day?
Every game the Raider defense plays well until the fourth quarter when they get tired, don’t blitz, play vanilla and lose.
It happens over and over and over again.
It happened again tonight.
September 15th, 2009 at 12:33 am
Mistabrown: Good point. Maybe we should entice Rich Gannon to come out of retirement. I would bet anything he would and could have done better that Russell, at least in this game that we lose. (ps: we all know the refs robbed us of a TD.)
September 15th, 2009 at 12:34 am
u guys spend so much time hatin on russell but hes goin nowhere. bottom line he made plays when he needed 2. he throws a td to win the game and the defense didnt finish the job. russell was off but made the play at the end of the game to win it. the defense played well all game long and blew it at the end. thats why u play 60 minutes and not 58. its a team loss. u guys can be so impatient and stupid. this is a young team. the season aint over yet. the team has a long ways to go. let these guys gel for a minute before u go all crazy.

Armond:
Know where you’re coming from, but it’s more than the one loss. It’s the mind set “of losing” that gets welded into the kooks and crannies of their freaking brain cells…AND THEN THE PATTERN STARTS…We see it year after year, just like the stupid prevent defense which prevents you from winning. So, ya, it’s more than the one game, it’s all the never ending after affects, game, after game, after game!!!
September 15th, 2009 at 12:43 am
Good night guys, I can’t sleep either, so I’m heading to “FAT-BURGER” and see if RUSSELL will at least pay for my meal.
September 15th, 2009 at 12:44 am
post .. 282 and 290
right on point . for anyone to post cuz they said it all.
the greatnessof the raidahs isin it’s futcha. the futcha is now. i aid it once , i’ll say it again we are going to be an exciting team. ad weare one yeard away from dominance …. believe that
good nite y’all !

WE SHOULD HAVE WON THIS GAME.WHAT A HEARTBREAKER!
September 15th, 2009 at 1:09 am
The same numbnuts in here that are saying it was all Russell’s fault that we lost are the same delusional nutjobs that would be shouting “Raiders are going to the Superbowl” had we won the game. O.o
We made huge strides tonight. The season isn’t over yet. We almost beat a really good team. There IS upside to all of this.
September 15th, 2009 at 1:20 am
But, don’t get me wrong… I do see similarities in this loss that I’ve seen the past six seasons. For instance, we should have beaten the Bills and Chargers last year, but lost the game in the 4th qtrs. The season we went 2-14 we had the lead at halftime in 8 or more games but lost it in the 2nd half. Plain and simple, we can’t win games by scoring 10-20 points a game.
September 15th, 2009 at 1:30 am
post 290,Armond,agree with you,JRuss showed up at the end of the 4th ,But earlier he was all over the place, some of that was young receivers, and others were on Jruss, period! Now how in the heck does youre DEFENSE play some sort of prevent, when you are leaving the HEART of the Defense WIDE OPEN? Anyway,Im proud of the over all effort, thinking that the Entire coaching needs to STEP UP for kc

looking ahead to 2010, the Raiders have to make a decision. Will they extend Seymour? And then get him some players via 2010 FA and the 2010 draft like , then watch this team really take off!

The “call” was BS.Initially ruled a TD,no way it should have ever been overturned.
Russell was wildly inconsistent, still has NO touch.
Terrible defense late in the game, scheme and execution.

In Hindsight, from a coaches standpoint, wish the team would have ran it all the way in on that first drive.. perhaps throw in a few short passes.
It may have changed the whole dynamic of the game. Dmac will learn how to hold on to the ball as huggy bear jr did. Those three backs, are the next earth wind and fire. RAnkin will fill in nicely for anybody thats hurtin’
I like that the coaches are able to admit that they should have played tighter on that final drive. THey should play as if it is 0-0 first quarter and maybe have one of the playing deep center field.
Jamarcus was not perfect, but did enough to win the game. Once we get better and learn from this, we beat this San Diego team ( already dinged up by our more physical team) by a much larger margin than they beat us. take away a few mistakes and that robbery by the refs, and we win this one. So close!!!!!
