Wanted _ punt return specialist
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 at 1:31 pm in Oakland Raiders.
With Johnnie Lee Higgins not at practice with an injury to his AC joint and Nick Miller out with a hairline fracture just above the ankle, Hiram Eugene was attempting to field punts as a deep safety during the portion of practice open to the media.
One went through his arms, barely grazing a forearm. Another sailed five yards to his left, untouched.
No official word on Higgins until coach Tom Cable speaks to the media after practice. If Higgins can’t play, there’s a good chance the Raiders will be looking for someone to return punts against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Miller said he hadn’t heard if he would be placed on injured reserve and hoped that wouldn’t be the case since it was a 4-to-6 week injury. Miller said the injury was initially diagnosed as shin splints, then said it was a fracture of his shin, then said it was a fracture just above the ankle.
“I’ve had shin splints for a while. It’s not a big deal. I’m a track guy and everything. I can deal with that pain. It’s not that big a deal. It just seemed to get a little bit worse, a little bit worse. It was over two days. It was one day, ‘Ow, this kind of hurts.’ And then next day, ‘Wow, I can’t walk,’ ” Miller said. “We decided let’s be sure and get a bone scan. It came back it was broken.”
More to come . . .

What else you got Rich?
How about that team of yours? Still don’t want to answer that?
How about the defense losing the game? Never got that yes or no.
But we can stick with the “More stupid things from Ricochet” category if you’d like.

Carr is with the ravens I think.
September 16th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
Louis Rankin is servicable for now. Please don’t put Hiram Eugene out there. What about Stanford Routt…he’s horrible in coverage, so maybe he can make use of his 4.3 speed after all?
September 16th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
Is Chris Carr playing on any team right now?
September 16th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
If not Justin miller I think DMAC use to field kicks and punts in college. Can he field the punts?
September 16th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
Justin Miller had turf toe problems. That’s why he looked so bad in the preseason and why he lost his job. Turf toe takes a good year to get over. Look at DMac last year and then again after a year – big difference. Bringing Justin Miller back only does one thing – adds one more injured player to our 53 roster.

McAlister over Routt …
Is the limo at the airport yet?

Higgins better heal fast…

Richoschit is Ann killion!!! Just confirmed with the mercury news. She took some time off to have a baby. How’s that turn out Ann, I mean richochit? How do you find the time to apend the whole day surfing Raider Blogs while you have an infant attched to your mamery glands? Women are amazing, aren’t they? To be able to cut and paste like that while breast feeding. Wow…

How about Holland or Watkins fielding the punt and KO returns. Theoretically, these guys should have somewhat decent hands and should be able to run faster than the average lineman. I’m thinking Holland would be the best of the two for this purpose.

Sit Routt Move huff to corner. Make Mitchell back up free saftey.
We better find a good return man because KC will be punting alot.

Rotoworld:
Free agent CB Chris McAlister is reportedly telling people close to him that he’ll “eventually” sign with the Raiders.
The fit’s sensible, if only because Al Davis thinks he can turn just about any former first-round pick’s career around. McAlister is 32 years old, has chronic knee issues, and wouldn’t be a threat to Chris Johnson’s starting job.
September 16th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
Given the fact that Routt had an awfull preseason and that our 4th CB is Bowie, maybe signing McAllister is good news.
He is still started last year for the Ravens before going down with injury.

We suck. JaWalrus, will never be more ready than for the first game of the season, and since I rewatched every single play at half speed, its clear he just cannot be accurate enough for us to be any good.

Didn’t Branch return punts & kicks in college?

I think he did. In fact, wasn’t that a big reason for drafting him?
September 16th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
Put Darren McFadden back there!
September 16th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Put DHB back there. He said he’d do anything the coaches want him to do. This way he should finally get that first catch, maybe!!
September 16th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
No way you put a starting position player back there to return punts. I know it’s been done before, but we don’t have that kind of depth. Can’t risk it.
September 16th, 2009 at 3:15 pm
I’ll do it, but just this once.
