Raiders: McAlister report `nonsense’
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, September 18th, 2009 at 10:46 am in Oakland Raiders.
Looks like Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area “NFL Insider” Jarrod Cooper is on the outside with his old team.
One day after coach Tom Cable said he knew nothing about the possibility of bringing aboard cornerback Chris McAlister, team spokesman John Herrera took it one step further by saying Cooper’s report on the transaction was “totally untrue” and “nonsense.”
Herrera took exception to Cooper’s criticism of Michael Huff and Stanford Routt and was critical of reporters for bringing up the rumor with potentially affected players in the locker room.
Looks like McAlister made a miscalculation if hoping to join the Raiders by floating the idea before having anything close to a deal in place.
It’s also a public vote of confidence for Huff, coming off his best game after playing more than 30 snaps as a deep safety on passing downs.
During the pre-practice window available to the media, there was no sign of Johnnie Lee Higgins _ meaning Hiram Eugene is the likely punt return specialist against the Chiefs.

Sounds like Cooper has been hanging around with Sapp too much.

Oh, of course because the Raiders front office says it’s BS, it must be right?
September 18th, 2009 at 11:07 am
Nah cooper isn’t with sapp. He’s letting Kawakami stick him in the booty with a needle b4 he reports! Both of them are straight up tools
September 18th, 2009 at 11:08 am

September 18th, 2009 at 11:08 am
Cooper is mad about the whole Scholarship thing!
September 18th, 2009 at 11:09 am
Bring back 42 year old Eric Allen…he would still be twice as good as Routt.
September 18th, 2009 at 11:10 am
Looks like McAlister made a miscalculation
I hope he doesn’t get bulldozed by that little bulldozer guy.
Wait that as for speculating which is different than miscalculating.
September 18th, 2009 at 11:11 am
Good, I hope we do face cassell he’s a sitting duck in the pocket, Ellis, Seymore, Kelly prepare to feast
September 18th, 2009 at 11:13 am
“Cassel says he’s “leaps and bounds” ahead of where he was a week ago. He practiced again Friday, and the Kansas City Star writes that Cassel was moving around “very well” despite a brace on his knee”
Looks like we might face Cassel on Sunday…
September 18th, 2009 at 11:15 am
I hope to gawd they get a competent returner in there for Sunday.

September 18th, 2009 at 11:16 am
Funny how Kawakami has everything negative to say about our team, but when we display aolot of positive play opening night, he’s ghost. Jerry I can respect the other beat writers lie urself and Cam, but this punani hole needs to stop putting stories on this sight, don’t be soo one sided buddy

al davis + prevent defense = buttbuddies
September 18th, 2009 at 11:22 am
Top 20 2010 draft picks:
1. Ndamukong Suh, DT Nebraska
Preseason Skinny: Star DTs are worth their weight in gold. Star DTs who can get into the backfield and have the ability to play anywhere on the line in any scheme get the hard look at the No. 1 overall spot.
2. Taylor Mays, FS USC
Preseason Skinny: The near-perfect safety prospect with impressive size, smarts, and cornerback speed.
3. Dez Bryant, WR Oklahoma State (Jr.)
Preseason Skinny: Can he stay healthy? If so, he has the type of drive and talent to be a ten-year superstar.
4. Brandon Spikes, ILB Florida
Preseason Skinny: While he might only be an inside linebacker, he’s the type of defensive quarterback who makes a team his immediately.
5. Eric Berry, SS Tennessee (Jr.)
Preseason Skinny: He might not be Taylor Mays as far as size and speed, but he makes more big plays.
6. Greg Hardy, DE Ole Miss
Preseason Skinny: If healthy, motivated, and with his head screwed on straight, he should be a dominant next-level pass rusher.
7. Carlos Dunlap, DE Florida (Jr.)
Preseason Skinny: He’ll make everyone drool at the Combine. He could stand to be a bit bigger, but otherwise he’s a prototype 4-3 end.
8. Arrelious Benn, WR Illinois (Jr.)
Preseason Skinny: He has the athleticism and the quickness to be a franchise receiver, and he has the attitude (in a positive way) to make it happen.
9. Brandon LaFell, WR LSU
Preseason Skinny: If he can make the LSU passing game shine, he’ll go this high. However, his numbers might not be that great and he has to play up to his tools.
10. Evan Royster, RB Penn State (Jr.)
Preseason Skinny: With decent size and breakaway speed, he has the basics. His vision and quickness through the hole, and his production this season, will make him a high-rising prospect throughout the year.
11. Jonathan Dwyer, RB Georgia Tech (Jr.)
Preseason Skinny: Big, fast, and tough inside and out, he has all the makings of a back who can carry an NFL offense. He’ll get plenty of chances to shine in the Tech offense.
12. Sam Bradford, QB Oklahoma (Jr.)
Preseason Skinny: In the right system he’s the next Tom Brady, but he has to prove he can handle a consistent pass rush. Everyone loves him, with many likely to make him the No. 1 overall prospect, but how good will he be when he’s not behind a dominant line?
13. Arthur Jones, DT Syracuse
Preseason Skinny: A poor man’s Ndamukong Suh … and that’s not a bad thing. He could end up making a ton of money as a 295-pound end in a 3-4.
14. Gerald McCoy, DT Oklahoma (Jr.)
Preseason Skinny: A building block to work a line around for a decade, he’s an anchor who’ll dominate in a 4-3.
15. C.J. Spiller, RB Clemson
Preseason Skinny: It’s all about his durability. If he can last a full season, he’ll be a top 15 pick. If he has bumps and bruises that cost him playing time, he could fall out of the first round. On pure talent he’s a top ten pick.
16. Jermaine Gresham, TE Oklahoma
Preseason Skinny: Known for his receiving ability, he doesn’t get enough credit for being a strong all-around tight end.
17. Rolondo McClain, ILB Alabama (Jr.)
Preseason Skinny: Very fast and as sure a tackler as they come, the rangy, versatile defender will be used in a variety of ways.
18. Jevan Snead, QB Ole Miss (Jr.)
Preseason Skinny: The hottest prospect this offseason, his stock has shot through the roof. He could end up being the No. 1 overall pick if he has a big season and leads Ole Miss to the BCS.
19. Trent Williams, OT Oklahoma
Preseason Skinny: While not a Hall-of-Fame pro prospect, he’s a sound, steady blocker who was the best lineman on the nation’s best front five last season.
20. Jahvid Best, RB California (Jr.)
Preseason Skinny: While he’s not big enough or durable enough to be a franchise back, he’ll be deadly if he’s in a Chris Johnson

one thing you have to know when dealing with the Raiders is to Shut your mouth. The more you yap the more it aint going to happen. Learn that McAllister. I would have preferred him as the nickel back over Routt but oh well.
Nnamdi21, when I say Mitchell is on Al’s scholarship doesnt mean I dont think he will be great. As a matter of fact, I think he will be a heck of a player for us. I was one of the ones on youtube predicitng they would draft him in the 2nd round. I am hoping he becomes a Bob Sanders (either him or Tyvonn). However, no matter what happens with Mitchell, Al will always be in his corner just because the whole mediots blasted him for that draft.
September 18th, 2009 at 11:42 am
Dude,

September 18th, 2009 at 11:42 am
What makes anyone think that McAllister is going to be any better than Huff, Eugene, Routt, or Baker? I don’t get it, dude isn’t on a current team for a reason. Not saying he wont be good, but how good is he really?

27. well put. Makes sense but again, I do0n’t see any indications now that he needs to be or will underperform.
Oaklands D Monday night won raves from usually anti Raider ESPNites for its uber simplistic and throwback “70s-80s” defense predicated on disciplined, aggresive football.
Given his size and speed, Mitchell makes sense in that kind of format.
I pray he doesn’t have to become a scholoraship guy, but I see your point saying IF he needed to Al might let him stay just to prove detractors right rather than cut him. Not usre if its true, but sounds like vintage Al lore…

Charger players who did not practice…….

Nick Hardwick- ankle
(got their asses kicked, but we couldn’t get the W)
September 18th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
Here’s the context of MaddenRaider’s deliberately misleading post. It’s from a New York Times piece of a couple years ago:
“This was an interesting place to take things. In 1981, in a conversation with the sportswriter Gary Smith, Davis confessed he was ”captivated” by Hitler. Coming from a Jewish man who had grown up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, the remark invited all sorts of inquiries.
Davis chuckled when I reminded him of the article. ”I didn’t tell him that,” he said. Davis paused. ”He had to be stopped, you know?”
Gary Smith?
”No, Hitler. Now, was there some admiration for what they were doing? If you were connected with football, you had to have some admiration. You know, quick strike.””

Ya, Russell has guts and a cannon arm.
Now he needs to learn to throw the ball with touch and accuracy. Needs to learn to move defensers around and stop locking on to one WR. Even when he does move through progressions, it’s usually deep, then he comes back to his check-down, which is OK sometimes, but he’ll need to open it up more.
And stop overthrowing check downs. I think the most annoying aspect of the young man’s game is he is throwing short routes too high.

Boob #56
That may be the one to get you banned. I’m sending it to management.
September 18th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
Two things I liked about how Russell played in San Diego:
1.) That awesome downfield block on the reverse to Higgins. He looked like an offensive lineman out there. It’s always good to see that kind of effort, especially from a young quarterback.
2.) Stepping up after his knee got tweaked. It’s his team, and the way he showed how badly he wanted to get back on the field is a sign that he’s maturing into an actual leader.
September 18th, 2009 at 12:27 pm
Edit: played against* San Diego
September 18th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
McAlister is not neede. Huff did a bang up job as the nickle/saftey. I’m pumped up about the next 3 weeks. All 3 are must wins after the loss Monday night. If we bring it as hard as we did against the Chargers, we have a chance to put on a show. Russell is coming along it seems. I like everything he’s been saying and like the progression on the field.
I’m playing the OAK defense in my FFL this week to spell the Eagles against the Saints and Drew Brees. Eugene better not put the ball on the ground or it could spell desaster for my FFT and the Raiders. Why not Branch? Didn’t we draft him with that in mind?
Keep it up Huff!
