Broncos 23, Raiders 3

Den_Matt Prater 23-yard field goal, 11:57

— Broncos take over on downs with 3:22 left. Going downstairs.

— Raiders take over at own 24 with 5:28 to play and 112 yards of total offense. You know what the fans had to say about that.

Russell runs 15 yards for a first down and gets some cheers. Then . . . false start, Erik Pears.

— Raiders take over at own 20 and go three-and-out, three incompletions, Russell getting more off target as game goes on. Afraid one last-ditch drive won’t do it here.

Raiders take over with 8:13 after forcing Denver’s first punt of the game. Boos greet Russell and the offense.

— Broncos take possession at the 49 and start the long process of running out the clock. They go three-and-out with two incomplete passes.

— Fights breaking out in the stands, fans led away in cuffs. They won’t have to watch. Raiders drive ends with Russell being sacked with Elvis Dumervill coming hard up the middle.

— Broncos drove 88-yards in 16 plays before settling for an 23-yard Prater field goal. The Raiders are giving way too much ground, doing well enough near the end zone to keep the score from getting even worse.

The 16-play drive took 8:08 off the clock, allowing the defense to stay on the field in the heat while Russell and the offense stay cold on the sideline.

Broncos have outrushed the Raiders 196-63 with 11:57 left in the game.

Chris Johnson on KSFO interview is very enlightening.

Gotta change up the defensive looks. Its 2009 not 1979

lol. They can’t even execute the 1979 defense. Can you see these idiots trying to run a modern defense?

Still the dumbest team in America.

  • JT

The raiders are who we thought they were.

  • Kirk

We stopped the run at the beginning of the game, but our offense is so bad that after a while the defense gets worn out. Russell and McFumble have to go.

  • Plunketthead

How the hell did we manage to play so well against the discharge?

  • JT

Did you see how the broncos challenged the raiders rifht from the start, making them receive the kickoff?

Its because they knew that they would make a statement making Rusell go 3 and out.

From that point on broncos blasted the Al Davis raiders.

  • jhill

I wonder if Manning could make DHB look that good. Or, I wonder if Garcon could make Russell look a little better?

  • JT

DMac has yet to prove anything. At this point he is still a nobody. But since Al Davis calls him a great raider player, then he has nothing to prove, because he is already great in Al Davis scholarship.

Even when DMAC gets a screen…he can never turn his shoulders upfield and explode. Bush does a better job IMHO.

I don’t know about DMAC….Maybe my vision is blurred with red right now because I had to watch this debacle with a broncos fan.

Believe me, I’m not completely sold on DMac either, if only because of where he was drafted. But he definitely has some ability. Kevin Faulk isn’t a tenth as physically gifted as DMac, but for the past decade has been an invaluable contributor for the Patriots. If the Raiders can get McFadden to muster even an ounce of his potential, he can still help this offense.

I don’t know JHill. I can’t tell you how disappointed I am about this game.

  • What really makes me mad is these guys gave me the illusion of hope. I actually thought as Al said, “We have a chance.”

Today was a much clearer picture of this team than week one or two.

  • jhill

We never stopped the run in this game. Let us not forget that Denver had the ball on the 1 yd line on that goal line stand. They ran the ball all game.

  • doriangray

oh. i just wanted to ask was i the only raider fan hopin j russ would get hurt when he scrambled at the end of the game. ? hell i bet even he hoped he would . u see he didnt slide? any other team /qb/ guy gets pulled out. u gotta spark the offense. LET 1 DEM PUNY WHITE BOYS PLAY.

  • MTraidernation

    i can’t believe i’m about to say this…

the only thing we as raider fans can look foward to now? the draft.
this REALLY sucks. speaking of the draft…

please, please, please draft an OT!!! mario is actually not too bad, but i bet he’d be better on the right side. it became clear today just how good gallery is.

the 2010 draft should be dedicated SOLELY to both lines. i’m serious, we should draft nothing but offensive and defensive lineman. no more DBs, WRs!!! if we can’t run OR stop the run, a 4.2 40 yard dash doesn’t matter!!

sign seymore long term and get bush 20 carries a game. Bush is our best player!!

  • SC

    I’m also listening 570….

This George Akison better shut his big, stumbling month. One bad game….what do you call the past six years!

  • Plunketthead

Jhill I think a Boldin would make a big diff for JR. He really needs someone to step and make big plays (catch errant passes with impossible dives and jumps) and get YAC.

Manning would make DHB and Murphy and Yvonne stay late, arrive early and work hard. He is a born leader.

I bet none of our current WR’s could make the Colts team.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

Chris Johnson is dissing the playcalling. Tell Al to let Marshall call a modern NFL game!

  • Terrapin

Read thru some of your comments. Jhill is right. If you guys are expecting Gradkowski or Frye to win you games ….its just not going to happen.

The Raiders are tied at the hip to Russell and all you all can do is hope he turns it around. But I’m afraid his confidence is being severely shot right about now. The early evidence is suggesting that starting rookie WRs probably wasn’t a good idea for the development of Russell. I don’t think he has any confidence in these guys. Late in the game he looked hesitant to even throw it to them.

I’m not so sure it can be fixed; but I can hope that it does get fixed or its going to be a very long season.

Very troubling JHILL….It’s like we surprised some folks the 1st couple of games and then opponents watched film.

The defense got steamrolled in this game and couldnt stop anything. Long time consuming drives to boot.

Again, Al DAvis has to loosen up the reigns here. We all know what’s going on?

The opponent does watch film. Denver put together an excellent game plan. Matchup WRs on LBs over the middle….run the ball right at the Oakland line and away from Seymour…the LBs did nothing today. Neither did the D-Line.

They looked just like last year with Rob Ryan!!!!!!

  • doriangray

AN O TACKLE? AARE U SERIOUS? OUR O LINE IS PLAYIN WELL.. we need to focus on gettin a great safety and reciever. not o line. dont start this mock draft bull. oh and a decent white dude quarterback .

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

I agree with you. Michael Bush should be getting 25 carries and 5 catches. Let DMAC and Fargas fight for the rest.

As for the draft….they need a DT and RT in rounds 1 and 2….that is clear right now!

  • new englandraider

what was up with napoleon harris? we signed him, and cut him a week later. was he injured? he was a pretty good mlb b4 moss trade

  • Plunketthead

I also think our players will get better. I would not be suprised if Al’s next step is to go after Cowher or maybe Holmgren.
If he and Holmgren are good buddies Al may be ready to turn things over. First and foremost Al will do anything to win.

  • Terrapin

As usual though, a lot of over-simplification here.

Those INTs were not necessarily JRs fault nor DHB running poor routes. On the 1st, DHB was tripped up on what was actually a well thrown ball. The underneath guy was beat. The safety over the top cut/ran into DHBs route. Usually that’s a pass interference in favor of the offense – not saying that I agree with those calls but still. NO CALL. (I sincerely doubt if Oakland was on defense that would’ve been a no call).

The 2nd INT, DHB got picked as he was coming out of his break. JR was already letting the ball go. That was a clear pass interference. NO CALL. INT.

Both of these plays together Denver got 10pts up on us.

Its unfortunate that that sht happened and may have done more physiological damage to JR than anything.

  • steveandblack

why in the hell would Cowher or Holmgren want to coach this mess of a team and franchise?

  • Odds on Cable making excuses for and defending Russell?

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

There is no way Holmgren or Cowher would coach the Raiders. No way. Too much input.

Tom Cable is the best shot for the Raiders because he is the only one who is willing to work with Al Davis and accept his “input”

Of course the ultimate scorn or joy will always be directed at Big Al,as should be because…

Some in here astound me with all the vitriol.Dont they understand that Al Davis and the Oakland Raiders Organization are one and the same.

In the recent fiasco with Gannon some are saying Al is a hypocrite by saying Gannon is being “dis-loyal” after the org gave him a chance 2 become what was always there,a fierce crazed competitor but he been around a long time.Anyway,4 Big Al’s comment about said disloyalty now some are saying Big Al is a hypocrite because they say he was dis-loyal 2 Wayne Valley. There could be NOTHING further from the truth…
I’m totally with Brien on this one…If the suckass aint rockin it right TAKE IT.Valley wore the Oakland Raiders Org. on his pinkie-finger,like a pinkie-ring,some sort of bling 2 show off 2 the world how incredibly bright fate has shone down on him.Sure he earned it ,but in another field other than foot-ball.
Well Al Davis was and still is an X’s and O’s guy.Al Davis knew that 2 make da Raiders everything he thought they could be,he had 2 take it.It’s not the statement Big Al was dis-loyal 2 Valley,BigAl’s loyalty was 2 The Oakland Raiders Org.If you were standing in the way no matter who you were, you were gonna get moved out of the way.Big Al knew he had to eat it,breath it,live it and BECOME ONE with da Raiders and Valley wasnt up 2 it.Big Al was NEVER dis-loyal 2 Valley,he had 1 loyalty and dat was da Raiders. The ends justify the means in this one.Al Davis saw what he had 2do and BY GAWD HE DID IT.And guess what??? the 50 years da Raiders been playing, about 40 of those years we always had a chance.40 years out of 50 years…I will take that EVERY time.Would’ve won more but the in-accurate rec….the tuck and countless other BS.The people who say Big Al is a hypocrite have no understanding the colossal undertaking Al took on.

Al Davis was NEVER dis-loyal 2 Valley.Al Davis did the world a favor just by his vision.Anybody that cant see forest through the trees says Big Al is this and that whenin actuality Al Davis and da Oakland Raiders ORG.is one and the same…dis-Al,dis-da Raiders. They’re not joined at the hip, they’re joined at the life.AND all this time AL Davis was and still is right.40 years outta 50 years SAYS SO

Every team that drafted a QB recently has had success except two.

Raiders and Browns….I would blame the organizations before the player.

  • Random Drug Tester

If Javon Walker can’t crack this line-up at this point…he’s never going to.

Russell is out of shape and not doing off-season homework…not a professional and definitely not a winner.

Bush should be the full-time back with McFadden as the change-up…DMAC is not capable of going between the tackles.

Heyward-Bey…please report to the football stadium

Your crazy! ANOTHER SKILL POSITION PLAYER? Are you Al Davis’ advisor? No way in hell should this team THINK about drafting another skill position player.

They need a stud DT, RT, RG and LB (MLB or SLB) period!

  • Charlie

Stopping the run starts at DT.
    Think the Titans miss Haynseworth?

Seymour moving around helps and Bryant is an upgrade over Sands but we still have Kelly and Warren.

Warren is a back up at best and Kelly is average.

Warren will be gone next year and Kelly will renegotiate or we will cut him.

  • j440

JaMarcus sucks I hope they bench him I am a diehard raider fan but this guys a joke can’t even throw the ball to his own receiver’s Al Davis should toss this guy in the bay to sleep with the fish

  • MTraidernation

totally serious!!! i think murphy and schielins will be a good duo, and miller could be one of the best before it’s all said and done. DHB will be gone in two years, completely worthless Al pick.

doriangray…did you play football?? i don’t know what team you’re watchin, but our oline is pretty average. that’s part of the reason jruss sucks; oline play. we have THREE guys starting for us that would be back-ups for most other teams. cornell green is awful. morris and pears are back-ups and carlisle is not even close to where he was a year ago.

great teams are made from the lines out.

  • Charlie

That is why I wanted to use the high drfat picks on the lines for the last two years.
Murphy in round four and Schillens in round seven have developed more quickly than DHB.
The same can be said at the RB spot.
Without an Oline these high prciced skill guys (see JR) can not perform and their development is slowed.

Our line play is so glaringly bad that the higher percentage strategy for improvement is use our high picks on the Oline and Dline. Skill guys can be found later.

    Maybe in 2010.

  • new englandraider

i agree, the o line is playin better than expected. jruss had time to throw the ball 2day. he refuses to pull the trigger. he holds onto the ball to long. they just need to get better. period. im tired of all the patriots fans im surrounded by.

  • Dude

Shocker that Terp is here making excuses for Russell and DHB!! Neither of those play was PI and on the first Russell threw into dub cov. But why let the facts get in the way of a good story???

  • Random Drug Tester

Russell can’t read a defense…and it seems he can’t read an offensive playbook either.

  • MTraidernation

i agree our o-line is better, but that doesn’t mean they’re good. our d-line now has bigger names, but are getting the SAME results which tells me big al is still calling the defense. plus it hurts when you have two LBs playing out of position. morrison is an outside linebacker and brown should be on special teams. in reality, we don’t have a middle LB on our roster.

we got destroyed today by a team that will probably only win 5 games.

  • Kirk

Today we saw a team that drafts offensive linemen in the first round vs a team that drafts the guy with the best 40 time.

    It was no contest.

  • new englandraider

he’s been readin the dollar menu at micky d’s

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

Folks…we have what we have. The playbook is questionable….the Qb is questionable….DMAC and DHB are awful….and the defense is the SAME AS LAST YR.

Still, watching NFL football and raider games is a good time on Sundays…..not to sound apathetic…but man…today was just PITIFUL

  • raideralex99

Start Gradkowski … he threw 2 passes and wow he completed 2 passes.
Those of you clowns who are making excuses for JR grow a brain.
Today Jones could not run against the Titans defense BUT Sanchez came through with some nice throws and won the game. What has JaMarcus done … he makes the whole team looks bad and I bet the defense it tried of it and they are giving up and I can’t blame them with JR at QB. What’s the point 3 and out and we’re back on the field. Seriously JR is too dumb to play QB … he has no ideal how to read a defense.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

That’s depressing. Denver is a bad team…that’s what so depressing…they are on par with the Chiefs and Browns…

So are the Raiders until they prove otherwise!

  • new englandraider

no offense charlie, jr had time to throw today. he really did. he was affraid to throw it. i dont know. he holds onto the ball to long

  • MTraidernation

    you nailed it brother!!! EUREKA!!!

i’d rather have 53 football players on my roster. al davis wants 53 athletes. and a puppet for defensive coordinator.

at my last count, we have 11 footballers and 42 “athletes” on our team. we’re gonna lose more than we win.

  • new englandraider

donald hollas. lmfao. he was the worst.

  • MTraidernation

does it make anyone else angry we could have joe flacco, trent edwards or andrew walter throwing balls to calvin johnson?? those three guys are roughly the same QB as jruss, and we coulda had two of em!! PLUS a #1 WR in johnson.

but, big al would rather have jruss, dmac, and DHB. awful.

these are the decisions the owner is making
