Final: Texans 29, Raiders 6
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, October 4th, 2009 at 1:20 pm in Oakland Raiders.
News, notes and observations from the Raiders game Sunday in Houston against the Texans:
– One final indignity before Houston kills the clock, Johnnie Lee Higgins drops and kicks a punt right to the Texans.
– Twelve men on the field extends Houston drive _ special teams is a disaster. That’s penalty No. 10 for the Raiders.
– Raiders passing game a mess at this point. The passes Russell does put on target get dropped (Louis Murphy).
– Raiders don’t pay the price for Russell’ strip fumble _ Kris Brown misses field goal attempt.
– Another tough special teams play _ Higgins runs diagonally backwards and loses three yards on a return.
– First possession ends with Russell flinging one deep over the head of DHB on fourth-and-7. He’s 11-for-29 and 123 yards at this point.
– Texans showing what it’s like to have a lead and make the other team pay. Zach Miller positively brutalized twice on consecutive plays to open the fourth quarter.

too early to talk who we will pick with the first pick of the draft?
October 4th, 2009 at 1:24 pm
If I know Al, I say it’s Mays!!
October 4th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
Three cheers to all the idiots who, 18 months ago, were shouting down all of us who doubted that McFadden was the next Eric Dickerson.
Yeah, I’m sure glad we didn’t take Sedrick Ellis, Glenn Dorsey, or someone else who could actually help the team.
In DMac’s second season, guess what? He goes down easier than Paris Hilton, and his hands are greased like a cube of butter.
96 HOURS UNTIL MCFADDEN!!! indeed…

Again, All we need is a baddass o line and we will win games regardless of how our current defense plays.

Just look at the saints.
October 4th, 2009 at 1:30 pm
We gave up 30 pts todays folks …
You really need t chew on that!
Our RT played so bad today that he got benched for Erik Pears.
Our C played so bad today he was benched for Satele.
Our LG played so bad today he was benched for Chris Morris.
Let’s really take a look at what our offensive line is NOT doing on a team led by a guy know for his Olines.
The running game is putting the passing game in 3rd and 8 or more way to often. No way DHB and Murphy should be being asked to do as much as they are being asked to do. DMac and Bush in your stable and they are being hit in the backfield? LBs are getting clear shots on them in the backfield? It’s as clear as glass man!
October 4th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
Trade for Troy Smith! Get Gallery back, get Schillens back, and draft the O-line next year.
October 4th, 2009 at 1:31 pm
As much as the defense is improved by adding a very, very good player, the offense is hurt by loosing their best WR and OL players. The O wouldn’t be as good as the D if they had those players in, but they wouldn’t be this bad.

Worst Raiders loss I have seen in years and possibly ever. Detroit didn’t even look that bad last year. What ever happened to the best players will see the field. Jamarcus shouldn’t even be on the active roster let alone on a NFL roster. He is getting worse by the second. Is this some sort of joke that nobody is in on? The league is constantly changing and Al wants to try to implement schemes that were successful in the 1980s. pathetic. Al hire me in the front office, there’s no way i can do any worse.

damnit Cable you have to catch that ball.
=======================================================
Lefty.
The receivers all drop the ball and have route issues
The running backs all can’t run and fumble a lot
The QB has accuracy issues
The LBs don’t make any plays and the run defense, despite the additions and focus on fundamentals, is still horrible
Also, as you so consistently lecture, they have the players they wanted and feel will be successfull.
So I think every f’n finger points to Cable and his cracker jack staff and the incompetent owner that hired them!
October 4th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
Yep D looked good very solid the only bright spot from this game.
October 4th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
TAylor Mays or Eric Berry will be the pick. That’s for sure a guarantee.
The outside in is the philosophy…..What a joke!
October 4th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
in all honesty, our Def. is playing well enough to win.they are getting no help from the off.our QB has been below avg.,our line regressed today and looked totally inept, our RBs might not be as good as we all thought, and our WRs are both rookies, and we know most rookie WRs will struggle.
October 4th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
The Raiders are ignoring the ONE thing they did well…running the ball…and now look at this….it’s quite simply a disgrace….no other way to put it. But let’s face it…this all starts with one person and I think we’re all tired of talking about him. Maybe the Head Coach up in the Owner’s box should come down and put on the head set from now on. Time to be accountable, stop hanging the stooges you hire out in the wind…this is all on you.

how can everyone put so much blame on Cable when the QB misses open Rec.,open Rec. keep dropping the ball, the RBs act as if they are playing hot potato with the ball.and the line can’t block the guys in front of them.on top of all that, the owner most likely won’t let him make any personnel changes.
October 4th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
I am, for once, at loss for words. don’t even know where to begin. My suggestion? Watch the WNBA finals…
If there is one thing – The Oline is pathetic. Worst unit on the field. Russell actually played pretty well until he started pressing when it all unravelling around him. McFadden – man what can i say except we could have had Clady who has yet to give up a sack in the NFL. we could have had cushing insted of DHB. Our linebackers were not good today… I need a drink…
October 4th, 2009 at 1:39 pm
Lefty,
I hate to say it. But the Raiders are running the Bed and Breakfast offense with a twist of ZBS.
Give me Kiffin’s offense anyday over this crap!
October 4th, 2009 at 1:40 pm
RaiderDuck: Are you kidding? DMAC is the problem? Did you see Fargas getting blasted in the end zone? Did you see Bush and JRussell both lose fumbles. McFadden got 6 total carries, and never did he get consecutive touches. He was met in the backfield three times resulting in no chance to advance. Fargas’ lone 13-yard run came on the last play of the first half when Houston was playing to prevent the long pass. Bush had 3 carries for 10 yards — all of his carries came on delayed draws and his long run of 5 yards came on a 1st and 20 when the Texans were playing to stop the pass. DMAC was never on the field when Oakland started drives with its best field position, which is insane. He’s your starter and clearly the best player you have on offense.
Anyway, nobody for Oakland ran the ball for squat. Even Houston struggled. Take away Slaton’s long TD run of 30-plus yards, and he averaged less than 1.5 yards per carry on 20 attempts. The point is, DMAC needs the ball more to be a game-changer.
Oakland is a complete mess, and it starts with JRussell and the coaching staff on offense. The )-line is less than average, and everybody is now stacking 9 in the box to stop the run. Adrian peterson would have had the same stats as DMAC today on those 6 carries because the defense knew what the Raiders were running and they blew it all up all day long.

I said since the schedule was announced, our season will be determaned in Houston.
Today folks, we got that answer.
When the HC is a OL coach, the OL should the the ONE solid position group on the field. They were (aside from rookies WR drops) was the worst group on the field.
I didnt want a HC change, but at this point from what I have seen, either hand off the play calling duties or take early retirement.
I AM TELLING YOU NOW….
If we play a fourth game in a row next week vs the Giants, like the last three we have played against KC, DEN and HOU…. there WILL BE LESS THAT 30,000 against the Eagles.
Wake Up Al, you make coaching changes, personal changes, but the only thing that never changes is the scheme you make this team run.
Hate me all you will Nation… but Al… please… for the love and respect of the Nation… pick up the f’ing phone, call Gruden, give him full control and see what happens.
YEARS we have watched the same changes not work, try a new change this time around like the rest of us want.

The smartest thing the Raiders can do is keep passing on their 1st round pick in the upcoming draft and not pick until spot 31. Last time we picked that low we got a potential Hall of Fame player.

Mays or Berry whoever has the faster 40
October 4th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
Play calling killed them today. How you going to go to a run play in the endzone when the running game is not working. Not enough screen plays.Defense on the field way to long. Why not run our offense similar to colledge instead of a lame 70s and 80s crap that dont work.Way to go coach you need to hire an offensive play caller cause you stink at running an offense cable.Call the right plays and we will score and win some games
October 4th, 2009 at 1:45 pm

Sir Dennis: Never said DMac was the problem. That would imply Oakland has only one problem, player-wise. But 18 months ago, a bunch of us were SCREAMING for Al to not take McFadden, citing the ease with which he would hit the turf and his butterfingers. Even if you’re only get 6 or 7 touches, you can still do positive with those, and show you’re worthy of more. Based off today, what is McFadden worthy of? They might as well have done kneel-downs for each of his carries. For a guy who was supposed to be the game-changer, McFadden hasn’t had many decent games at all, let alone good ones.
Now, front-office-wise, Oakland does have only one problem: Al. As long as Al is running the team, we can look forward to more of this crap.

You don’t have to be Einstein to figure this out.
True-the OL needs work-we should have drafted Mack.
True-the play calling needs work.
The biggest problem though is Russell. As Bill Cowher said at half time “at some time you’ve got to put someone else in”.
Russell was 7 of 18 in the first half.
The guy just doesn’t have it.
For crying out loud Al! Someone else out!
Send out Plunkett-he goes to every game anyway.

RaiderDuck: Yes, you can do something positive with 6 or 7 touches, but no RB for the Raiders did anything positive with their limited touches. Same with the QB and receivers. DMAC is a feature back and must get consecutive touches, must get 20-25 touches per game. Look at Slaton, despite being shutdown over and over again, Houstons tuck with him and he got the ball21 times on the ground and 3-5 more times thru the air. He averaged maybe 1.2 yards per carry on 20 attempts, but he hit paydirt with one carry that went for over 30 yards and a TD. That is why you feed your best players.
After the first half against San Diego in the opening week, I don’t think Oakland’s best offensive player (DMAC) has gotten consecutive touches except maybe twice against KC and once against Denver. And, I know he has not gotten the ball 3 times in a row.
I’m telling you, DMAC is a solid back — not perfect, the fumbling has been a disappointment — but he runs hard. Did you realize coming into today, Oakland was tied with Dallas for the fewest negative rushing plays from scrimmage (only 4 lost-yardage plays thru the first 3 games)? After today, the Raiders might lead the NFL in lost-yardage rushes.
Those of you hating on DMAC are just flat-out wrong about him. He is a gamer caught up in a hopeless situation and pathetic NFL organization.

No Head Coach – Cable is a joke
No QB – JaMarcus is a fatter version of Ryan Leaf
No RB – McFadden is a wildcat blowout
No WR – Heywood-Bey is a project without hope
No Oline
No Dline
Mark Davis, get a career. The inheritance is worthless.

October 4th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
when they were losing that bad how come they didnt do trick plays like mcfadden throwing the ball and short dumps to recievers. We drafted fast guys for what reason.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
Cable called a good game today guys. You can’t have it both ways. We called for reverses, and he gave them to us. We called for shorter routes for the WRs, and they were there. WRs dropped the passes today. Oline couldn’t handle Houston’s front 7.
It’s not that complicated.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
Murphy clearly made that catch and Cushing clearly went to Russel’s head.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
We can’t execute basic plays…what do you guys expect? Cable’s very first move as HC was to stop Kiffin’s practice of making the players run the plays until they get them right before practice was over.
I mean, why force the players to run the plays correctly? That is what game time is for right?
October 4th, 2009 at 2:02 pm
tom cable is not the problem. jamarcus russell is not the problem. the o-line is not the problem. the defense is not the problem, special teams is not the problem.
AL DAVIS IS THE PROBLEM!!!
i not sure if i count the raiders as part of the NFL anymore. they’re a minor league football team, a junior college for the rest of the NFL. not completely ready to play and or win at the the professional?? not a good football player, but you run a 4.3 forty? go get a scholarship from al davis.
the raiders have had some bad draft pick recently, but DHB will go down as the worst. that kid couldn’t catch a cold. nearly dropped one that was buried in his chest. awful.

This team is pathetic. It is a joke.
How bad is the 0-line, so bad, I think none of these guys could start for any other team in the NFL. Maybe we can get back to winning after 2012.
So disappointed in the Raiders effort.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
The head coach’s job is to win! How? Play the players that will achieve this!….Is he? NO! Why?…One person!!!
AL DAVIS WILL NOT LET HIM!!!
AND THATS THE BOTTOM LINE!
October 4th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
We suck again!
October 4th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
This is a low low low point. Are the Raiders built that badly? How can you miss on so many draft picks? How can you be this bad? I have been reduced to simply hoping for a decent drive on offense let alone a win. We are simply terrible.
The Giants are going to eat us up. Can we just forefit and not get hurt, because winning is out of the question.
Will the Raiders score a touchdown next week? What’s the line on that?
October 4th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
who brings these players in? AL DAVIS. who brings these coaches in? AL DAVIS. who’s in charge of the draft? AL DAVIS. who fires coaches? AL DAVIS. who calls the defense? AL DAVIS.
what do great players do when they get old and can’t perform anymore. THEY RETIRE. THEY LET GO. what do great coaches do when they realize they’re no longer effective as a coach. THEY RETIRE. THEY LET GO.
al davis CAN’T do this anymore, whatever it is he does. and lately, whatever he does, he’s awful at it. not bad, AWFUL!! completely inept.

October 4th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
Lefty,
The problem is that Al Davis can’t hire a competent head coach. I don’t think Cable is a competent head coach.
This is the most unprepared team I have ever seen since 2006. Just unprepared and sloppy.
The team is sloppy at several positions.
Cable is a rah rah players coach. You better have a disciplined vet team for that type of coaching.
Just look to San Francisco for a REAL head coach!
October 4th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
Are you sure Lefty?
I could’ve sworn I saw him wink and point his thumb at himself. Can the backup QB be able to “change the offense”?
Oh well, you may be right!
Any chance they were talking about Green? Cable did end up benching him, and even moved Morris out of the C spot in favor of Satele.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
This what happens WHEN YOU DON’T PICK OFFENSIVE TACKLES IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE DRAFT!!!
October 4th, 2009 at 2:12 pm
The problem with the Raiders starts at one postition,
the freakn Quarterback! Did anyone watch the game? Houston puts 9 in the box! Just like every team in the league is going to do, when your QB can’t throw the ball in the frkn ocean!
No RB can run the ball with all the those defenders playing the run! We could have five all pros on the line and the run game would struggle.
If you get that terrible QB (12- 33 128 yds= worste QB rating in the NFL) out of there as well as DHB (obviously isn’t ready)this team would be able to throw the ball.
Another huge problem is the head coach! What was the game plan today? He doesn’t expect teams to crowd the box? How about 4 or 5 receiver sets! OOO right..WE HAVE QB WHO CAN’T THROW THE FREAKN BALL!
The owner sux! The QB sux! What good could come out of that?
The 2009 Raiders

Russell has the ability. I see it in his throws.
He has no help. No O-Line and no running game.

Russell on any other team would be a star.

We are the new Detroit Lions. It’s become a joke. It’s not funny anymore.
Al Davis has lost it, period. JaMarcus Russell is not the answer, however is not the ONLY issue. Look to the big man in the Raider jumper, thats your main issue.

The sky is falling.
The end is here.
The final warning.
The sun disappears.
I’ll be there next week for the giants game… not to watch… but to get there before they get off the bus so i can yell and scream belittle or anything else that will let them know i/we are f**king sick of this s**t… I expect to get arrested… i’m f**king sick of this sh**

You can take mcfadden, mcjruss, and mcheywardbey put them on any other team and they will prosper
October 4th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
I’ve been reading these post 4 awhile now & all can say is wow!!
U guys are crazy, I mean that in a GOOD way. I consider myself a loyal
Raider fan but dang I can’t take this!! Yes JR has been the problem but 2day
it was on the WR’s and the play calling. Yeah JR missed a few but that’s who he is.
As 4 all the hating on DMac, weren’t U all the one crying that he should B
the starter over “farglass”? Now all of a sudden he sux, what do u expect him 2 do
agiants 9 in the box?
October 4th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Who are the experts that said we couldn’t use an O-Lineman or D-Lineman?
Mike Mitchell and DHB. Good grief
You fools were cool with Green, Carlisle and Satele
We don’t deserve to win with stupid decision making like that!
And we don’t win
October 4th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
LOL at our offensive line!
They were soooo bad, you now have people showing up talking about 9 men in the box.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:16 pm

Shawnraiders81,
Oh, is that why Gruden was such a loser here? Coaches can make a difference in Oakland, they just have to have the balls and brains to manipulate the old man into staying in the back ground. Puzzies that sucker punch people like Tom Cable are too fukin dumb and gutless to do what it takes to win here…
October 4th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
people are complaining about the play calling.Cable said there were at least 9 dropped passes today.don’t you think the off. might look better if those passes were caught?don’t you think the running game might have opened up if those passes were caught?if the players were executing the way they are being paid to i doubt we’d be sitting here discussing the HCs play calling.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
The Raiders must be the worst team in history at developing talent. If Al drafts you in the first round, start looking for second carreer opportunities!
October 4th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
Going on the seventh season of garbage football. Coaches have changed, players have changed, but the results are the exact same. One common thread though. Al Davis.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
Here’s what really happened?
Tom Cable and Ted Tollner junked the Kiffin playbook and dusted off the B&B.
Why not just run the offense they ran against Tampa last year.
Give Bush the ball 27x …oh we can’t…because the O-Line is garbage.
Here’s another idea. Have Cable give the playcalling to Tollner and focus your “head coaching” on the O-Line. Geez, he’s not a real head coach anyway. He has little pull on the defense

I am calling B.S. The Raiders have turned every player into a “bust” Why? You get substandard coaching and an ancient playbook and its not going to work.
Name me one QB that is successful with no O-Line, no running game and receivers that “in Cable’s words” dropped 9 balls today?
October 4th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
SnB..you see it in his throws? What throws? The throws that fly ten yrd over the recievers head? Or the screen passes that lead the RB right into a linebacker? Or better yet, the throw off the back foot, that flies right into a defensive players chest?
What throws! The Qb rating is lying, right?

October 4th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
murphy made that catch, just like the catch against the chargers, but we know the f**king league has those refs train to call it agains us every time. AL, is in it watching our quarterback enough punishment let tom cable make the CHANGE.

Whatever brother. Your running game gets 10yds, your O-Line gets overwhelmed and your receivers drop the balls that are there…blame the QB.
Guess Al Davis is the best owner in the NFL too!

I agree with you. The NFL refs are the worst in the buisness.
We should be good enough to win the game regardless, we have had how many high draft picks in the last 7 years? How many “great” trades?
Once again.

It’s not the coach.
It’s not the line.

when you have an owner who’s at least 10 beyond lucid, rational thought, a quarterback who is grossly under-coached and not ready to be a professional, and offensive line that features exactly ONE player(who’s injured) who would start for another team you’re gonna be really bad.
couple that with a coaching staff that are nothing but puppets who answer to ONE person, and it’s a disaster.
the 2003-2009 oakland raiders
why do we keep giving this crook our money. maybe we’re the crazy ones

October 4th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Russell just looks TERRIBLE! I understand a young QB learning.
But he just looks TERRIBLE! His footwork is so so so bad. He has absolutely no presence in the pocket..he looks at his receivers right off the stap, telling everyone on the defense who is throwing the ball to! Worse of all, he is INACCURATE! Not to mention fat, out of shape, and is not leader!
Should I go on SnB?

Not the biggest fastest losers.
Once again Al Davis.
Kiffin was an idiot, but at least he picked Zach Miller the best pick in the last 7 years. Did I mention he is a football player?
October 4th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
really? im so sick of yall sayin how bad russell i. damn!! e get it!!! he sucks!! “( BORKEN RECORD) whats new? the defense is great i think. the offensive coordinator should be fired now. that draw play in the end zone is horrible.

wow, im done with this football team lets get ready for APRIL, like i said Cable has lost the team, their is just so much of a mess, picking and pointing at every problem. The team looks worser and worser every week. HOPE there is NO HOPE in OAKLAND…..when theres no light at the tunnel…..AL DAVIS has obviously ruin this Organizations, face it it will be years before this team is competitive, can we have a minor league team in the NFL yes we ca and they are called the OAKLAND RAIDERS, wow wow wow this is just bad, pathetic, the defense plays good the first quarter but when your offense doesnt help then why bother. SPEECHLESS honestly i got better things to do on sundays then continue supporting this piece of s*it team…..TIME TO REVOLT PEOPLE boycott the raiders in 09, 10, 11 , 12 (((maybe Grandpa will not be here with us, god forbid))) just a sport, but wow MR.DAVIS you are one of a kind your EGO has gotten the best of you. WHy fire a HC when your going to hire another one next year, and we will have a rebuilding phase all over again lol……garbage im out….time to hibernate.

SnB..It is very hard to run the ball when every team in the NFL is going to put 8-9 men in box! They know the Raiders want to run the ball. So they game-plan to stop the run!
WHICH FORCES THE RAIDERS TO THROW! WHICH LEADS TO A 12-33 128 YDS DAY FROM RUSSELL!
Teams wouldn’t put all those men in the box if they thought Russell could throw the ball.
Do u get it yet SnB? Should I go on
October 4th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
Anyone remember 2006 with Art Shell and Mr. Bed & Breakfast??? Different coaching staff and a ton of different players, but the same old, crappy organization. Thanks Al Davis. Move over KC Royals, Golden State Warriors and Bengals of the 90’s. This organization since 2003 has been the worst in the history of professional sports.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:33 pm

October 4th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
So how was those draft choices for 2009?
Eben Britton and Eugene Monroe stabalizing things in Jacksonville.
See, its decisons like drafting a receiver and a safety over an O-Lineman or stud D-Lineman, that has the Raiders right now THE WORST TEAM IN THE NFL!
So chew on that one.
Especially those that lectured to me that the lines were fine blah, blah, blah, blah!
October 4th, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Wow… I should be flagged 15 yards for “piling on” for what I am about to write… How many ways can you say the Raiders “suck” creatively? Almost 40yrs of being a Raider fan and I can honestly say that I’m almost beyond the point of caring now. Being p1ssed off about this loss would completely over state any emotional attachment I have left to this sorry bunch of losers.
A few things that jump off the page here…
- Houston was one of the WORST teams in the league against the run and well into the 3rd qtr our starting RB had negative yards?
- JaMarcus actually looked like he’d played QB before today – especially at the start of the game. But the poor SOB would have been better off feigning an injury half way thru the 2bd qtr. What happened to this vaunted “zone blocking” crapola? What about Khalif Barnes? If he’s such a bloody good LT, I am sure he can learn another position – it’s called TEAM work and JOB security dude…
- Yet another game with swiss cheese run defense. Slaton and Moats (not exactly Adrian Peterson either of them!) were running untouched for 10yds at a clip…
- Chris Johnson? He did his best Sanford Routt imitation – and when he finally makes a play he gets 15yds for unsportsmanlike conduct.
I am dying to hear what Cable has to say about this. If he has a shred of dignity left he’ll tell it like it is and stop towing the Al Davis line. It’s so painful sitting here like a schmuck every week hoping they will at least show up. A buddy is a Giants fan and I won’t even bet him with the points next week (which will be enormous. AND Darren Mcfadden is on my fantasy team… 0.20 points!
JaMarc-bud, Mcfumbles and Heywood-bobbles for Tim Tebow? hahahaha…
I am clearly losing it…

October 4th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
JaMarcus is a fat loser and he has body odor.
He has to be the stupidest player to ever enter the NFL. Dude is dumb as a box of rocks.
He should pull an Ocho Cinco and change his name to JaDirty Sanchez, because he sucks azz.
JaMarcus is the biggest piece of crap to EVER dawn a Raider uniform, what a complete stupid azz loser.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Blame this one on JaMarcus and you fall into 1 of 3 categories:
1) You look at the stats only and didn’t watch the game (most TV and other “analysts” will fall into this one).
2) You are delusional and think that one change is all this team needed to succeed on Sunday.
3) You know nothing about football and should have your sign-on revoked by Jerry Mac personally.
JaMarcus threw the ball very well today. A ton of dropped passes. The officials were embarrassingly awful in the 1st half (how the Murphy catch was overruled a minute after it was first ruled a catch and then upheld on review is preposterous; the CJ 15-yard celebration penalty was a joke even by anti-Raider bias standards). And the o-line was absolutely horrendous. No time to throw, no room to run.
Pears is terrible at guard. Cable needs to make a switch tomorrow. Isn’t Barnes ready yet. Stick him in at LG or move Green to LG and put Barnes at RT.
The defense eventually clamped down but some really wide open receivers and poor tackling for much of the game.
I thought JaMarcus was VERY sharp. The stats obviously don’t show it, but he deserves ZERO percent of the blame for this loss.
What was Fargas doing as the main runner. None of the running backs did anything but Fargas had the most opportunities and the few running lanes available on the day and still averaged about 2.5 yards per carry. Enough already.
Culprits:
1. O-Line
2. Refs
3. Receivers
4. Defense
5. Special teams coverage
October 4th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Top 3 bad Raiders.
1) Kerry Collins (doing great in Ten)
2) Randy Moss (doing great in NE)
3) Norv Turner (doing good in San)
How many players/coaches are we going to blame?
October 4th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
If this continues Cable is gone.
I seem to recall lobbying hard for Jim Fassel as HC, Rey Maualuga (starting LB on the 3-1, defense-led Bengals) and Phil Loadholt (starting RT on the 3-0 Vikings) during the off-season. What do I know though.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
Blame the owner all you want… I can catch those god damn passes.. the mistakes are elementary… it’s the TEAM the TEAM is failing. Coaching ownership players all down the line… and the team needs to know we are sick of this S**t.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
I can’t wait until we win a couple of meaningless games sometime during the season and many of you fools will be singing Cable’s praises again.
I thought it was sad last year when that happened, but this year it will just be funny.

read my last post GetRidoEMo.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
SnB,
A real coach can actually make us a decent team. But it has to be a coach that has the courage and brains to manipulate Al. When Gruden was coach and Al would send him some ridiculous play that he wanted to run, Gruden would send some assistant coach to cut some tape to show Al why it wouldn’t work, and Gruden would then stick to his guns.
We can’t fire Al, so we just gotta hope Al mistakenly hires a coach with balls and a brain. The players we have are talented, we just need someone to show Al that we have to find decent interior players to win games.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
AMEN Raiderdav AMEN the raiders have entered unknown territory, nobody will coach this team, nobody will play for this team, not even the players on the roster, nobody would believe it even if AL changed his philosophy, what we’re watching has probably never happened before. BOYCOTT THE RAIDERS-IT’S FOR THEIR OWN GOOD!!!

Don’t blame Cable. He’s collecting $4 million for his troubles. He gave it a shot and it failed.

Aside from the Murphy catch and CJ celebration penalties, I saw 5 or 6 blatant penalties on Houston in the first half that went uncalled.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
Russell didn’t lose this game for us today. That honor goes to the O-line. Russell on the other hand didn’t do anything to win the game either. He needs to be benched to at least the bye wek. He needs to study the complete playbook and learn it – not to play again until he knows it cold. For now use one of the back up QB;s and implement the dink & dunk offense to open up the running game. Hold open auditions for O=linemen. WE need a new C, RG & RT NOW. I don’t know where they are to come from but until that’s done we are not winning another game this year. OK, maybe we can slip by KC but that game is still a toss up. I predict a 2-14 year. That means top 3 pick in next year’s draft. We need to upgrade both lines and find a real MLB while we are at it. Keep Super Mario & Gallery and trash the rest.
To think, over the past years, we could have had Adrian Petersen, Calvin Johnson,Cedrick Ellis, Glenn Dorsey, Ryan Clady, Eugene Monroe,B.J. Ragi. Brian Cushing, Alex Mack, Percy Harvin, Michael Oher, Jerod Mayo, Joe Flacco, Chris Johnson, Joe Thomas, Levi Brown, Patrick Willis, Jay Cutler, Haioti Ngata and the list goes on & on & on. How did our scouting staff miss all these playmakers? Our ability to draft quality people is in serious question – especially in the first round. No wonder our team is not worth a schit. WE CAN”T DRAFT TALENT. WE CAN ONLY DRAFT FAST! Therin lies a big piece of the problem.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
BOYCOTT!!!!!!!!!!! Do NOT go to any games or buy any merchandise. Do NOT give Al Davis another dime until he either commits suicide or dies from nobody changing his diaper. Commitment to Excellence??? Are you kidding me? Going on SEVEN season of garbage football. Since the Super Bowl they have lost 100 games. Tell the guys on KSFO to keep on drinking that Kool Aid. Every year a new excuses and never any honesty. Now they say the loss of Gallery is now the reason why they stink. I didn’t know Gallery drop passes or plays defense.

How bad is this?
I am seriously considering to tell my 7 year old to root for another team.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
I dont necessarily blame JaMarcus for sucking at QB. I blame Al Davis for drafting his dumb azz. JaMarcus couldn’t figure out the fry machine at McDonalds. Quite honestly, I think he might have a bit of mental retardation.a Sad, very sad, he needs some help.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
Dakota I didn’t see that, we are on the same page though.
October 4th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
How well would Russell, McFadden, Bush and Miller be playing if they were drafted by a team that actually put stock in hiring decent coaches?
We have good players, we just do not have the coaches in place to utilize them, or the ownership that understands those guys need a decent o-line to be effective.
Barnes, Pears and Satele? Are you fuggin serious Al?!?!?!
October 4th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
i truly believe its einstens fault the raiders are losing. ;;; hear me out – when einstein was a lil kid he was pulling for richard nixon to be a great president. also , he was tony mandarich`s biggest fan .

Don’t go giving anyone any ideas there my man! I’m sure there is a die hard amongst us that is willing to to 4-5 years for offing the old guy. I’m sure they’d get a sympathetic jury in as long as they pull it off in the bay area. I mean what jury wouldn’t buy a temporary insanity defense with what Al has put that fan through these past 7 years?
Just sayin’!

THat wasn’t a racist comment, nor was it meant to be a racist comment. Go protest for green peace somewhere else puzzy boy.

I feel bad that I turned my son into a Raider fan while he was growing up. I should have let him decide who his favorite team would be instead of convincing him him of ” the greatness of the Raiders “

who the hell would pay money to see this team play in two weeks?????
October 4th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
Einstein’s trying to to make the discussion about race to make us forget how awful Al Davis is. What’s Al’s record now in the past 6 years? It’s bad, we know that.

Everyone needs to box up all your Raiders gear along with a nice big dump and send it to Al Davis. He wants us to pay for crap then he gets our crap in return. Commitment to Excraments!!!!

i believe donavan mcnabb is a great quarterback ,,
October 4th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
What I said last week, the week before that and so on. It never really changes. Were are crap from top to bottom with no realistic hope of changing as long as AD is in charge. At least we are number 1 for doing it wrong. We excel at mediocrity. The once firey dragon is now a toothless lizard or at least he appears that way now. The team truly reflects it’s controlling owner – beat, rode hard and put away wet. Not the entity it used to be. At least I saw and remember the good old days – not the crap we get now from the S & B.

What can we do as fans to express to Mr. Davis that he needs to do the honorable thing and step down?
October 4th, 2009 at 3:14 pm
storm the facility and verbally express your displeasure…
October 4th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
This reminds me of brave heart when the king (Al Davis) is dying in the end. He makes Wallace (Raiders/Fans) suffer to the very end. In the name of preserving his name and legacy instead of doing the right thing.

*******************
Absolutely nothing. Al doesn’t care about what the fans think. He has no honor. It’s all about Al Davis. It always has been and will remain that way until he’s dead. The fan are not part of the equation. Like he says, “Just win baby”. Nothing else matters. To him, it’s all about great players playing great games. The only problem is that the great players are no longer in S & B.

21 points ok.
6 from Aso
6 from Howard
6 from Johnson
The only way we get 21 points
October 4th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
Chris in NY says we shouldn’t blame it on Russell?
Why the hell not? He affects everything around him. His passes are too hard/not the right touch/due to his footwork/out somewhere in effing space or whatever.
Houston was putting NINE EFFING guys in the box and Russell was the reason for that.
Even with lousy receivers and a crumbling OL any medicore QB can do better than 7 of 18 in the first half and by then it was effing over.
Take your list of three possibilities and shove ‘em up your arse Chris of New York.
Is it all Russel’s fault? Of course not but he’s a big part of it.
It’s entirely Al Davis’s fault for insisting on playing him.
October 4th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
I’ve loyally followed the Raiders since 1971, the last era I consider the Raiders were a consistent, year in, year out good (and several times great) team was 1985, the Raiders I remember ended after that.
Since that time they have had 11 coaches and 12 QB’s (that’s an avg. of a new coach or QB every 2 years), their record is 167 and 200. Subtract the Gruden years and they are 129 and 174.
Until Davis dies or turns over close to total control to someone else, this team will continue to field some talent, but not a cohesive, competitive, modern, disciplined, tough football team.
Until the Raiders field that type of team again i.e, the Gruden years, I will passively follow them, but will not watch this garbage product anymore, I’ve had it.
October 4th, 2009 at 4:47 pm
We need to use ALL of our 7 picks in next years draft for ALL linemen… especially Offense… but knowing Al Davis he will draft for speed… Just Retire AL!!!!!

IT IS TOTALLY TIME TO BOYCOTT HOME GAMES. IF YOU’RE A SEASON TICKET HOLDER, I FEEL YOUR PAIN, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CRAPTACULAR ECONOMY.
IT’S TIME TO HIT AL DAVIS WHERE HE’LL FEEL IT THE MOST, IN HIS WALLET. SOMETHING TELLS ME HE’LL SEE THIS ALL FIRSTHAND NEXT WEEK.
IT’S HIGH TIME FOR CHANTS OF “DAVIS SUCKS,” INSTEAD OF LAYING IT ON THE COACHES, STAFF AND PLAYERS THAT AL BROUGHT IN. GUYS LIKE CABLE AND JAMARCUS, THEY ARE MERELY THE MESSENGER. BLAME WHERE BLAME IS DUE. AND IF AL CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH AND RUNS TO SOCAL (WHICH HE’S PROBABLY PLANNING ANYWAYS), SO BE IT. HE’S STINKING UP THE EAST BAY!!!!
