Russell should be accountable
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, October 26th, 2009 at 1:44 pm in Oakland Raiders.
No sign of JaMarcus Russell. No surprise.
It’s not the way the Raiders operate, urging players to be available during open locker room sessions, and it’s never the way Russell has handled himself since he arrived as the first pick of the 2007 NFL draft.
More than just the media is watching Russell closely now. In the aftermath of Sunday’s 38-0 loss to the New York Jets, and a pointed critique from coach Tom Cable, Russell essentially shrugged his shoulders and said he had no idea what his coach was talking about.
He didn’t have time to checkdown, the first interception came when a defender crosses his face and the one in the end zone intended for Todd Watkins was giving the wide receiver a chance to make a play.
Russell didn’t sound as if wanted any of his decisions or plays back.
Here’s what a face of the franchise does after a bad game:
He plants himself in front of the locker and takes on all questions. He takes responsibility for the bad plays, analyzes what went wrong, and not just for the sake of the media.
Russell does it so his teammates don’t have to alibi for him. He does it so his teammates realize he’s taking it to heart.
A good P.R. staff points out the ancillary benefit of Russell taking on all comers on Monday. Once Russell deals with his struggles on the first day of the week, then the story is cycled through the news and morphs into something else as the week goes on.
They urge the quarterback to get it out of the way now, put it behind him, and focus on the next opponent.
Assuming Russell, as per his custom this season, doesn’t talk until Thursday, the quarterback issue essenially remains on the table through Friday’s papers, when his responses reach print.
More to come following Tom Cable’s press conference . . .
[You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.]

HE SHOULD!!!
October 26th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
Well, I thought we should all give Russell the lst quarter of the season to see if he can develop and mature. He has regressed and acts like he’s five years old. That is not good at all. Maybe Vinny Testaverde still wants to play.

How did the 49ers go from winning the first few games in the start of the season to losing every game since?
=======================
Simple.
When you play a team who’s vastly over rated, who’s win’s came against teams that were total garbage, which gave the 49ers the impression that they’re 3 wins we’re admirable, instead of hardly earned.
And then they played teams who’s not vastly over rated.

Found on the web:
“How to actually protest the Raiders… and have it work
Yes folks, you heard it from me – it’s time for a boycott, but a good, creative boycott. A REAL boycott, not a bandwagon jump and not a false protest, but a 1960’s style “get *** done” boycott.
First and foremost, this means -
1. Stop buying tickets
2. Stop buying merchandise
3. Do not attend Raider events
4. Do not watch Raider television broadcasts from your home television or listen to the Raiders on local radio
I’m well aware of the friendships and good times forged over the Raiders and am not suggesting any of those end. I’m also well aware of the fact that, even though the Raiders suck, you only get 16 games per season and want to watch them.
Instead of letting these things get in the way of a good boycott, let’s use them to our advantage.
1. ATTEND HOME GAMES… just don’t go inside.
The Oakland Coliseum’s parking lots are owned by the city, not the team, and in these tough times CA’s local economies could certainly use the money. A parking space may be expensive, but you’re paying to use that space for about 10 hours, why not use it all 10 hours? Show up, party, get drunk, have all the fun you want WITHOUT BUYING A TICKET OR ENTERING THE GAME.
Imagine the Raiders losing 42-0 in the middle of an empty stadium, with the fans outside partying and having a good time with beer and food they’ve purchased themselves. Al Davis would be facilitating a party he’s making no money from.
Add to this the fact that fans could put boycott signs and flags on their tents/cars, and it’s like a full on protest without needing to obtain permits for such a thing.
SEASON TICKET HOLDERS – READ THIS
Since your tickets are already purchased, you might as well use them. Bring signs voicing your displeasure and leave early during bad games. If possible, arrange group “walk outs.”
2. Watch the games on pirated streams and at sports bars.
TV money drives the NFL. As it is, the Raiders lose a ton of it by not getting local coverage 2-4 times a year, but could stand to lose even more if advertisers want nothing to do with the team. Sports bars pay the NFL one flat fee per customer (based on their capacity) at the beginning of a season. When 40 people crowd a TV watching one game, the ratings aren’t reflecting that. When you watch a game on a stream, it is also not shown in the ratings for obvious reasons. Make sure your Raider-watching is not empowering Al Davis.
3. Do not call into any official Raiders sports radio shows. Call into their competitors.
KSFO owns the rights to Raiders broadcasts, which they purchase from the Oakland Raiders. If people are calling into their shows and giving them ratings, their advertisers will keep buying ads during Raiders games, and KSFO will certainly renew their rights to the Raiders.
KSFO is not a station worth your ratings anyway. They are a right wing station that gives voice to race -baiters like Sean Han nity, Mark Le vin and Rush Lim baugh (who even the President of the players union thinks is too racist and divisive to be involved with the NFL). The less money you’re giving them, the better.
Call into competitor shows, such as KNBR’s lineup, or even JT The Brick’s show on Fox Sports Radio , and voice your complaints about the Raiders and your solidarity with the boycotts. JT may be a Raiders employee, but his show has nothing to do with the team and he’ll always give voice to Raiders fans.
Those outside of the Bay Area who get the Raiders on local radio should do the same.
4. SUPPORT COMPETITORS
Don’t let those who sponsor this madness get away scot free. If something is the “OFFICIAL *INSERT THIS HERE* OF THE OAKLAND RAIDERS,” then buy the competing brand, and write an email/letter to that company’s complaint department saying WHY you purchased the competing brand.
Sponsors of the team need a return on their investment. If being associated with the Raiders causes companies to lose money, they won’t sponsor the team.
This team may live in Oakland, but let’s borrow from Berkeley and show old Mr. Davis what a real fan protest looks like.”

All the gifts in the world. Talent, potential, cannon arm, 6′6″, status, responsibility.
All that + winning attitude + accountability = wins.
All that – winning attitude – accountability = 2-5.
I would be a fool to say he’s a bust so early in his career, but its a lot safer bet then saying he’s our franchise QB for the next 10 years and an All Pro in the making.
The risk of sitting him behind a vet and continuing his development is that he still gets paid over 10 million dollars (minus cheeseburgers which leaves like 5) to be even less accountable and responsible.

So, when I go to watch the GS Warriors, I am supposed to watch Stephan Curry clang shots and then boo him. I watch the A’s so I can see Cliff Pennington k. And you wonder why we have problems here. Where does this IDIOCY COME FROM?? This must be the “gang” mentality. Let’s just spray the hood with an AK and if some women and kids get hit, eh, so what. That what losers do.

Gust372,
Never seen you commenting under that handle. New to the blog or just a whiner fan or dolt fan. The quickest way to lose the team in a lease year is to do the things you mentioned. Most of the Raiders deserve the support of the fans. Not fair to Seymour, Nnamdi, and others that work hard. Any other ideas worth reading?
October 26th, 2009 at 2:10 pm

Exlaraidersesonticketholder (that’s a handle..hope I spelled it right),
I am new to this blog, although I have left comments in the past. Just not very frequently. No, I’m not a whiner fan or a dolt fan. I’m a Raider fan. I think the whole point of the boycott is that if we lose the team, so be it. Better to have no team than a losing product. A losing football team generates money for the Raiders only. A winning team generates money for everyone. If Al Davis is going to be content with a losing team, and lining his own pockets, then good riddance if he ups and leaves. I don’t understand your point about the Raiders deserving the support of the fans. The players have more power than anyone to do something about Davis’s management. They’re just collecting their checks. Hence, they’re part of the caper. Nnamdi and Seymour may work hard, but they know good and well that the guy who cuts them their checks will never build them a winning team, Seymours boisterous, satirical prediction last week noted. I respect your point of view that this idea is not worth reading (not my idea, btw, again, I lifted this from a Raider website, the only reason I don’t list the poster’s name is because the post is obviously provocative and I don’t want to make him any enemies), on that note, I think you for reading it anyway, and even responding! The more attention, the merrier. Good day to you, Exlaraiderseasonticketholder.

So, you, me & everyone’s grandma could boycott games from now until eternity.

That was NOT professional football out there on Sunday. Other than Fargas, NOT ONE PLAYER, played at a professional level. At this point, the only realistic and logical thing to do is start taking undrafted free agents like Desmond Bryant and see if they want to play in the NFL and start scrapping these over priced underachievers who just like to collect big paychecks. What is the worst thing that can happen?? We get blown out 38-0??

Firing Cable now will NOT matter one bit. Only thing that should be done now as far as a coaching standpoint is Tollner needs to call the plays.
The person who needs to go away who has making stupid decisions last six years is the freakin OWNER/MEDDLING OWNER/GM/PERSONNEL MAN/DRAFT DAY DECISION MAKER/FOOTBALL OPERATIONS/HEAD OF SCOUTING/WANNABE COACH/WANNABE DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR/DICTATOR/WANNABE EMPEROR FROM STAR WARS…..
The stubborn old senile delusional man himself Al Davis!!!
He needs to give up on making all the day to day football decisions of this organization…..one and for all!! Or this team will NEVER get better! NEVER!
The last move the old man should make this year is trading for Michael Vick or trading for Kevin Kolb! They would be cheaper and better than any other QB we have now. Then at the end of the season hire Holmgren as the GM/PERSONNEL MAN.
Then Holmgren should hire Bruce Allen as the capologist and then Holmgren should hire Jon Gruden as coach or Cowher and let them do their thing and exercise all the losing demons this franchise has all over them! Gruden or Cowher would probably work wonders with Vick or Kolb as their QB.
Thats the only way things will turn around for the Raiders franchise…..PERIOD….END OF STORY!!
Realize it morons!

From the SI Vault 8-30-99
He has won, and he has been well liked by his teammates wherever he’s played. Yet Rich Gannon has never been a model quarterback, the kind you want to build your team around.
A former wing-T quarterback for the Division I-AA Delaware Fighting Blue Hens, the 33-year-old, 12-year veteran is accustomed to having his abilities questioned. There were the pro scouts who said, after watching him throw at Delaware, “O.K., Rich, now let’s see you backpedal.” There were the Patriots, who picked him in the fourth round of the 1987 draft, then traded him to the Vikings two weeks later after he refused to switch to safety. In Minnesota, Washington and Kansas City, Gannon won 31 of the 58 games he started from ‘87 through ‘98. Not once, however, would a coach go out on a limb and unequivocally proclaim Gannon as his starter.
Until now. Having given up on rifle-armed underachiever Jeff George, Raiders president and general partner AJ Davis (sp) decided that Gannon, a free agent last winter, was the solution to his team’s quarterback woes and signed him to a four-year, $16 million deal. The contract raised eyebrows around the league. “I like Rich Gannon,” says one AFC coach, “but I don’t like him that much.”
“He’s been labeled a backup and a dink-and-dunk passer, but we think he can play,” says Raiders second-year coach Jon Gruden. “The passion, the desire he has to succeed—it’s an overpowering feeling.”
This is in no way to be confused with the quarterback play Oakland got from George, Donald Hollas and Wade Wilson last season, which more often than not produced an overpowering smell. The team’s final game, against the Chiefs, fittingly brought down the curtain on that trio: Having exited early with a pulled groin, starter Wilson was replaced by Hollas, who 11 snaps later pulled a groin and was relieved by George, who was still getting over a groin pull he suffered in early October. When the Raiders lost 31-24, they wound up with a 2-6 record in the second half of the season and missed the playoffs for the fifth straight year.
Gannon’s strengths—aside from his healthy groin muscles—are his exceptional mobility and a knack for salvaging a broken play. That scrambling ability will come in handy as he zigs and zags for dear life behind a line that yielded 67 sacks in ‘98, the most in the NFL. “Unorthodox but very effective” is Raiders cornerback Eric Allen’s assessment of Gannon. “When he used to play against us, we always said, ‘You’ve got to stay with your receiver, because he will scramble until that guy is open. Stay with the play, because you know he’s going to.’ ”
Gannon looked a trifle ragged early in training camp, throwing a few interceptions and more than a few ugly balls. So what’s new, say those who know the Philadelphia native. Gannon will never be aesthetically pleasing. He’s had his greatest success as a change-of-pace quarterback, coming into the game cold, running around, making things happen, firing up his teammates. (When he ran some smack past Sea-hawks linebacker Chad Brown in a game last season, Brown asked him, “What is this, high school?”)
That feistiness differentiates Gannon from George and endears him to Gruden. “Rich isn’t just a playmaker, he’s a leader,” says the coach. “There’s a toughness to him. He’s a Philly guy.”
Still, the Philly guy’s feelings are hurt whenever someone questions his arm strength, as often happens. Will blazing Oakland wideout James Jett outrun Gannon’s passes? “Andre Rison may not be as fast as James,” says Gannon, referring to his former go-to receiver with the Chiefs, “but I don’t recall underthrowing him when I was there.”
Besides, as Gannon points out, “If you take a five-step drop and throw a go route, the ball only has to travel 45 yards. This is a game of rhythm, footwork, timing. It’s not about throwing the ball 70 yards in the air.”
As for the homely passes Gannon uncorked early in camp, Jett was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. “Quarterbacks’ arms are like our legs,” he says. “It takes them a little while to warm up.”
But the sometimes slow-starting Raiders won’t have the luxury of getting warmed up in ‘99. For their 8-8 record last season, they were rewarded with the NFL’s toughest schedule. (Opponents had a combined winning percentage of .570 last year.) Oakland starts with games at Green Bay and Minnesota and will be favored in no more than three of its first eight outings.
Gannon scoffs at such grim predictions. He is cocksure, confident and, above all, relieved not to be a reliever.

Chucky went out and got him a perfect system fit an surrounded him with veterans.
From 1998 to 2002 (I will count 02 as a Gannon-coached Raider team, as it essentially was) you saw this team BUILT. And to prove it, Gruden dismantled it systematically, methodically, coldly.
What a genius.
I still think Al expected much more this season but still intent on rebuilding. This team is ripe for a true coaching talent.
Al, you really want to excite the fan base? You want this team to stop losing? You want people in the stands and leverga e to get your luxury boxes?
Get Gruden.

People, how much apologizing to the media could he do at this point? JaMarcus has been on the front page of ESPN.COM, subject on every radio sports talk show, etc…
Is this even a relevant topic?
I would prefer the discussion be about our lack of an O-Line, our play-calling and the team’s apparent lack of interest in competing.
What JaMarcus says to the media is of absolutely no concern to me.
After he was benched he was on the sideline cheering on his team. Helmet on, listening to the play-calling. Visibly upset as things didn’t improve (Hey-Bey’s dropped pass at the end of the game).
If he was AS BAD A GUY that virtually the entire football world makes him out to be he would have been sulking on the bench, calling his team-mates out by name, twittering non-stop about the fact he can’t stand in the pocket for more than 3 seconds without being sacked/pressured…
I’m not saying he’s a Pro-Bowl player at all, let’s just cut him at least a LITTLE slack.
I’ll call for his head if/when we have a good O-Line, solid running game, wr’s that can hold on to the ball/run good routes and he’s still playing the way he is. Bottom line is when that happened at the end of last year he played pretty well.
October 26th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Hello, SilvernSmac.
While the talk of a boycott may be ludicrous in your view, in my view, and many people like me, supporting what’s going on right now, or even accepting it, is twice as ludicrous.
Also, this wasn’t necessarily “my” suggestion. I lifted the comment from a Raider message board. But I do agree with it.
If everyone did what the post suggest, the end result would either be that Al Davis gets serious about building a winning team, via hiring the right people to do so, or Al Davis has to move the team due to not making any money in Oakland. I’m fine with either result.
Al Davis may not give a crap what any of us think, but if the boycott takes effect, we’ll see if he gives a crap about losing money. My guess is he does. I just don’t buy into your belief that Al Davis doesn’t care about money. THAT’S ludicrous.
If Al Davis’s real goal was to “win” and be “dominant”, as you said, we wouldn’t be having this discussion. If that is his goal, and it takes him 7 years to do it? At the very minimal he’s not qualified to run an NFL team today, which is all the more reason he needs to step down, and all the more reason to boycott if he doesnt.

JRuss has had a lot invested in him, the whole franchise. I understand them taking the time to see what will happen. Good god, they even brought in specialty coaches for him. For such little progress on the field, and Jerry is exactly right here, such poor leadership off, it is getting very close to time to get over him and on to something else. During one interview this offseason, jruss suggested that he put the ball in hard to reach areas for the receivers to get practice making hard catches so the easy ones would be easy. Puh-leese.

If you’re suggesting that Al will cave in and sell the team, you’re fooling yourself.
^^^^^^^It’s not ludicrous….it is happening right now to a certain extent with only 35K people showing up to games and the games being blacked out!
It’s going to get worse….more and more REAL fans who are smart will not put up with this and the attendance will continue to drop!
Thats the way to hurt Al….in his pocket until he hires a REAL GM/PERSONNEL MAN and Hires REAL COACHES like Gruden, Cowher, Holmgren to turn this thing around!

JRuss has had a lot invested in him, the whole franchise. I understand them taking the time to see what will happen. Good god, they even brought in specialty coaches for him…
__________________________________
True, they brought in a couple of retreads to help him out. But the real problem is that Russell is nothing more than a spoiled child at the moment. He obviously doesn’t listen and just makes excuse after excuse to justify his own poor play. It is like some rich brat that know he doesn’t have to listen to his piano teacher or swim coach because mommy and daddy will never punish him, or because he has a nice trust set up by great grandpa that makes him not have to fear his elders.
Russell just needs someone to spank the fuk out of him and take him out of his comfort zone. No one currently on the Raiders is capable or empowered by Al Davis to take such measures…and no one could fit the fat bastard on their lap to give him the spanking I guess.

Russell’s attitude has been built since he was drafted, with everyone in the organization afraid to say anything in fear they might bruise he delicate psyche. The environment that the Raiders have created for Jamarcus is perfect for creating the NFL’s biggest bust in history. Some may claim it’s to early but after his response to his pop warner mistakes tells me its time to turn the page. Welcome to the Frye era.

it’s not JaMarcus’ fault that Kalif Barnes got run over on the first play of the game.
it’s not JaMarcus’ fault that Louis Murphy dropped a pass on 3rd down on the second series of the game.
it’s not JaMarcus’ fault that Todd Watkins allows Revis to cut in front of him, jump over him and pretty much force him to the ground and get an INT.
JaMarcus has a lot of issues, but he’s not the problem right now.
Al was still the owner when chucky was here. Al was still the owner when chucky LEFT and the team still went to the super-bowl.
The problem for whatever reason is this team either shows up or doesn’t show up to play. They are not a talentless team, indicating poor drafting. They simply either come to play or don’t and win or lose usually based on this alone. I don’t blame this entirely on the players, coaches or ownership.
I don’t really know how this continues to happen.

October 26th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
I agree…benching Russell in favor of Frye or Garbagekowski would be a JOKE!
We have to see if Russell can show some signs. Starting those other two worthless QBs takes us NOWHERE!
Russell has work ethic and attitude problems, but he also lacks a quality HC, quality WRs, a running game and a decent scheme.
Start by hiring a legit NFL HC. Demand Russell restructure his contract after the season to be incentive laden or he will be cut in 2010…maybe money can motivate him (I am sure the moron has burned through most of his signing bonus on cheesy necklaces and expensive coats, cars and homes). Fix the o-line FIRST, then worry about WRs. Get the running game going and stick with it until Russell can make some plays.
COME ON ALREADY!

The D still has major problems even if the O is putting them in bad spots. You can’t blames all 316 yards rushing against the D yesterday on the O.
Everyone knew the D would have to stop the Jets rushing attack and they got steamrolled and looked just as bad as Russell and the O.
If the Eagles HC wasn’t always so pass happy, they would have ran all over us last week too.

Be patient bro. Everyone thought they’d be happy with 7-9 or 8-8 and all the sudden now they sound as if we were supposed to be 10-6.
================================================
I knew we were NOT going to make a run. We just weren’t. What I did expect tho, is for the team to get better and better and the players to get better and better. After the first game, there seemed to be something there to build on. The second game, we played poorly, yet WON. Certainly something there to build on. The last two games have been nothing but regression. Regression on offense, regression on defense, regression on special teams. This team is NOT good enough to regress on any level. You have to ask yourself, why is this team regressing after one week?? Normally, teams improve the most between games one and two. You can’t blame the coaches. This same thing has happened to every coach that has come here. Kiffin did not run the Al Davis offense and he was 3-13 in his last 16 games before he got run. Maybe we should start cutting players left and right and signing undrafted free agent college players. What could happen?? We get blown out?? We are already getting blown out! Dmac ran what 8 times for MINUS three yards?? Shoot, I CAN GO OUT THERE AND GET NEGATIVE YARDAGE!

LA to TheBay,
Yes Al is responsible for the greatness of what the Raiders once were…but the Raiders existed before him and they will exist after him. He is just a man, and right now he is the man most responsible for the WORST 7 YEAR RUN IN NFL HISTORY.
If Al Davis disappeared off the face of the Earth tomorrow, the Raiders would go on.
Just as companies are more than their CEOs, no matter how important the CEO once was, they still go on after the CEO is gone. Microsoft will continue after Gates steps aside. The same will be true for the Raider franchise once it is out of the grasp of Al Davis.
The thought of the LA Lakers without Jerry West was once thought to be unfathomable, and yet he left and they went on. The man that had his hand in every LA championship in franchise history stepped away and they continued on.
The Raiders are an entity that does not need Al Davis…Al Davis needs the Raiders. Fans want the Raiders to win and we hold Al Davis up for his past accomplishments, but his time has come and gone and he is holding the franchise back. He just doesn’t have the courage to step aside for the good of the Raiders.
Sad sad story, but hopefully we will live to see the end of the nightmare.
Though, Al is rich, and he may be able to live forever…maybe in 10 years they will be able to download his mind into an Ipod and he will run the Raiders clipped from the belt of John Herrera.
God help us…..

Oh and by the way Al has screwed so many people he can forget LA,Gruden, and almost anybody with a professional reputation.

Dakota,
I see, when you put it in those terms.
The Lakers are still the Lake Show. Their identitiy is still for the most part intact.
Whoever runs the show next really should keep the ‘mystique’ or whatever fruity name you want to give it, intact.
It must sound stupid to say it or read it aloud, but I’m sure most of you are no different than me. I was attracted to the uniforms since I was a little kid. My first conscience memories of watching Raider games was when we first got Bo Jackson.
I was bred on the Autmumn Wind, Us against The World mentality and the brash villain that ran the team.
My dad told me stories of Davis and the Oakland Raiders and met the guy in 82 and talked football with him for an hour. My dad was an insurance guy and that amazed me at the time that Al would take the time out to talk to a businessman about something other than business, but I’ve come to learn Al never wastes an opportunity to discuss the greatness of the Raiders.
I guess my point is, without the identity, I don’t know if I want to watch the Raiders.
If you moved them to LA (or wherever) and called them the LA ______’s, and changed the jersey and the identity, I don’t think they’d be my team anymore.
The identity can be intact and we can still win football games is what I’m trying to say I guess.
Mark Davis isn’t a football guy, bless his heart. Maybe he will hire capable GM, coaches, players, scouting staff, front office, etc. while still keeping it the Raiders.
Otherwise its just another team.
October 26th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
Since the Raiders picked Gallery/Grove in the 2004 draft they have not picked an OL in the first two rounds. We were all VERY HAPPY WITH AL after this draft I assume. Gallery was one of the biggest OL prospects in years, and Grove was the #1 rated center, a position of need.
The only two they’ve picked in the first 3 rounds since have been Paul McQuistan (3rd Round 2006 and crap), and Mario Henderson (3rd round 2007, half decent in my mind).
In all, the Raiders have drafted 4 OL IN TOTAL in the past 5 drafts.
Whether justified or not, Al has intentionally backed away from drafting OL. I guess Gallery, Grove, Langston Walker, and Matt Stinchcomb has changed his views…
You can’t win in football without an O-Line. Just look at the Giants and Falcons games yesterday…
This draft BETTER be different as we won’t be drafting QB, RB or WR…

What is really sad is that the season was over after the week 3 thumping by the Broncos.
The Raiders collapsed after that game and have not recovered. Don’t be fooled by the Philly game.
There are 9 games left in this miserable year and nothing can be done about the team until it is over.

Wow, how abt u construct an answer to what I said instead of worrying abt my sentence structure, this is a blog not university English class, how old r u? Why r u even here? It’s obvious u r just kid maybe 16 yrs old at best. Can u deny saying that Cable is a better coach than Gruden or that JR is a bonafida QB or that the Raiders are gonna ran up the table? My advice to u, MAN UP, say that u were influenced by your Castro street friend Priest, say that u going becoming straight and apologies to everyone for some of the worst things we read in here. Matter fact, just disappear in Castro that might be a better life 4 u.

This is hilarious. Almost everyone on this blog has disagreed with MR (MaddenRaider) over so many issues regarding this team and Al Davis. Now, in our 7th season, everyone sounds just like him. I have been one of the people who has agreed with MR in regards to Al Davis but I choose not to be as negative on a daily and very consistent basis as him because it just doesn’t change anything. So…when it all comes down to it…I just want to say, I told you so.
I am not happy with Al Davis for the crap he has produced. I will not protect his 1970’s and early 1980’s legacy that was 26 years ago. Its completely obvious that he does what he wants and theres nothing anybody can do about it even if it makes the most sense. Its his way or the highway. Has everyone finally figured out that we’re still running Al’s defense despite having different Defensive Coordinators? Did you finally figure it out? The world freaked out when we actually blitzed against the Eagles…why was it so shocking? Because its not the Al Davis way.
I was not for drafting DHB, McFadden or JR but I have supported them because they are Raiders but JR was obviously an Al Davis pick because of his arm. McFadden was a speed back who seemed more like a 3rd down back. DHB was obviously the fastest WR and Al Davis went for the attributes more than he did for their production or their intelligence and this is typical and disappointing. We had people like Eugene Monroe and Calvin Johnson at our disposal and considering how this team has played, theres not guarantee those guys would have been great but they were more complete players.
I really don’t have a clue what to do regarding the Raiders. Its better that they have been blacked out because I’d have a broken heart after each game if I had to watch them. This team isn’t worth a damn anymore. I want to see the games but at the same time, I just don’t care that much anymore. I’m just tired of hearing and reading how bad they are. They’re not even bad, they’re much much worse and I’m just tired of Al Davis and this whole persona. Its really freakin old. I’m a Raider for Life not an Al Davis for Life. I’m just biding my time until things are better. Maybe I’ll be old by then.

I blame the 316 yards rushing the Jets had on our punter.
If Lechler doesn’t pin the Jets back so many times, there is no way the Jets get more than 275 yards on the ground.

lmfao
lechler could really help a good team win a championship.

No dude, I never went to school, what means 4th grade? Does that mean JR is a bonafida QB or Cable is a better coach than Grudenor wait maybe it means the Raiders will ran the table and win 9 games or maybe hold on you are a real fan who lives 15 mins away from the stadium? Wow, I think even a second grader can clearly see that u have no clue in life and just speak straight from u know where lol.

This team appeared on the verge of the proverbial “turning the corner” on opening night vs. the Chargers. The team is getting better, but not Jamarcus Russell. He is simply not pro football material. He is not even NFL Europe material. Even his agent knew he wasn’t a pro QB, that’s why they held out for the 31 million in GUARANTEED payments. Russell’s agent knew the team’s senile owner would take the bait. When the team finally accepts reality and places Russell on waivers, no one else will pick him up. Just another Ryan Leaf, Gary Beban, etc…. The Raiders need to get on their hands and knees and beg Jeff Garcia to return. Yes, it is mostly Russell that is the problem! And the senile, prideful owner that will not admit his mistake. Cut him Al, write it off on your taxes and move on! The rest of the team is making progress.

Someone please help me. I have been a Raider fan for 41 years and born, raised, & and still a resident of NYC.
So you know I have suffered the last few weeks and my pocket has been lighter after the Jets game.
What I don’t understand is why has it taken so long to bench Russell? I have given him the benefit of the doubt but I can’t anymore.
We have a decent Defense but will never know because our Offense stinks. And too bad we don’t have enough talent on Defense to win like the Ravens in their Superbowl season.
Questions?
#1 Will someone convince Al Davis to get a GM.
#2 Will we take stud O linemen for for first three picks in the 2010 NFL draft.
#3 Did we truly not go after Ray Lewis during the last offseason?
#4 Is it possible to trade even up Russell for Vince Young? Would we be better?
Hopefully somebody and/or Jerry McDonald will reply with some honest intelligent answers!
October 26th, 2009 at 7:21 pm
Oh by the way I agreed with Mcfadden, Huff, and Bey as #1s and did not know much about Russell except highlights from ESPN (we all dislike the Raiders cable station) so I honestly went along with Russell as our pick also. So far I have really been wrong on Russell and do feel he should ride the bench for a while at least against the Chargers.
Also as a fan for all these years, I remember the old days when there was less discipline from the organization; the players disciplined themselves AND WON GAMES!
I say if you want to be “cool” such as Russell wearing earrings during the game; that should be prohibited until some ticks go into the WIN column.
We don’t have to be super discipline ala ex Denver coach {no sitting on helmets during the games} but something has to be done.
Goodnight.

He’s never going to get better cause he not smart enough and doesn’t care enough to learn from His mistakes. The coach and owner enable Him as well, We as fans should have a ban of support till things change from the top to bottom. I hear from people all over they are done watching them till Al gives up the control over all decisions. Until that changes we will be the losers of the NFL.

My favorite Raider is Jeannette Thompson from “Behind the Shield” on Raiders.com.
She’s well-prepared, articulate, presents herself well and seems to be a fine human being.
Maybe she can take over for Al Davis.
I bet Jeannette could hire a GM and turn the team around. If Al likes her, it might be our only chance.
