Gallery on the field

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 at 1:23 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Left guard Robert Gallery took the field for warmups and drills for the first Wednesday since breaking his left fibula during a Week 2 win over Kansas City.

Gallery did not appear to be working with the first team line during drills, however, and it remains to be seen whether there’s any chance he would actually play against San Diego Sunday.

Others who weren’t practicing but were on the field included tight end Tony Stewart (chest) and wide receiver Chaz Schilens (foot).

Those who weren’t with the Raiders on the field were right tackle Cornell Green (calf) and running back Darren McFadden (knee).

More to come later . . .

I was wishful thinking. This is bordeline delusional, my friend, but of course I know you’re just playin’ around. My Kool Aid would have to be mixed extra strong.

    Wait he’s not?

^^^^^^Not as delusional as the old stubborn man emperor himself with his crappy decision making the last 6 years that taken this franchise to TOILET!

He is the cause of the losing!

Ok, cool – we’ll only get blown up on the right side of the line now.

  • LA to TheBay

    McFadden is MIA.

    Probably settling another paternity suit.

    LA to the Bay,

I’m with you with on 99% of it, except the don’t draft any skill players line.

We need a QB and a RB. Maybe not our 1st rounder, but we must address those two positions. A real NFL everydown RB would do wonder’s to this offense, especially one who does not have to come off the field.

Our QB-RB combo is one of the worst in the NFL, except maybe for Cleveland and Tampa. I don’t get the whole “draft only linemen” talk.

You know who has used the least amount of 1st or 2nd round draft picks on O-lineman the last 10 years, and has drafted the most WR’s in the first two rounds those same 10 years? The Pittsburgh Steelers.

We need a QB, RB, and a MLB more than we need a RT (who you don’t draft until later rounds anyway) or DT. I think Center might be our weakest line spot, and a 3rd rounder would probably be a huge upgrade.

    Cowher

Up to five teams will enlist the services of at least three of these head coaches next year.

Also available may be Jason Garret (if he’s not promoted) and Wade Philips (if he’s not tarred and featherd by Cowboys fans). Those two are used to working with a moniacal fool as their owner.

Think the Raiders will be one of those teams to snag one of these charcters?

If Cable keeps getting blown out every other game, he’ll be the line coach for Southwest Middle Tennessee Valley State University.

Bring in the Las Vegas Loco combo of Fassell-Losman.

I would honestly take any of the 4 UFL coaches. Fassell, Cottrell, Haslett, and Denny Green(my least choice of the group).

  • LA to TheBay

    VR

We do have a few extra picks.

I wouldn’t be opposed to spending a 3rd rounder on a QB or a RB.

They need to avoid drafting a RB or QB in the first at all costs, IMO. They can’t afford it, in any sense of the word.

    LA to the Bay,

I would go (so sad we are doing this on Oct. 28th):

    LB
    RB
    C
    QB
    DT
    RG

Or something like that. We can say we don’t need a WR or a DB….so with that being said Dez Bryant in the first and Syd’Quan Thompson in the 2nd, lol!

  • inonewordraider

the only way we win is new gm, we have built a culture of losing, no dynamic coach can work w/ Al long enough to change our fortunes

  • Raider-405

    Cowher

    Shannahan
    Dungy
    Gruden

*** Well, right off the bat, remove Shannahan and Gruden. Not a chance in hell either of them are coming back to the bay area anytime soon as a HC.

Vegas had it right…. if we make a coaching change, Fassell, Cottrell, Haslett, and Denny Green are the likely answers.

But is any COACH the answer if we dont get a GM? The only way to change the ‘culture’ is to blow it up, start over again. Keep a few good character guys because otherwise, you are simply replacing one with the other and not making progress.

Jerry hit it on the head yesterday, the only way success will come our way is the gelling of players for a couple of seasons, then start the trend all over again.

Thanks 4eva, it is my WR’s, they are carrying me.

Miles Austin, Driver, Ocho and Steve Smith of the Giants. Doesn’t get much better than that.

  • LA to TheBay

    Honestly though, VR.

We are in dire need of a bonafide WR and CB.

CJ is getting torched down the sideline. Each time it happens, it looks like he was never expecting the throw.

Our WR numbers speak for themselves, and would surely be better with a system and a decent QB, but not much.

Murphy will be a gem. DHB will be a project.

It’s too bad these are needs right now, because Al will be tempted to draft that way.

My hope is Chaz can tear it up 2nd half and stay healthy. He will open it up for Murph and Bey.

Maybe give Routt a shot at CB. He’s not very good in the slot.

Another RB, WR, CB, FS, QB would be a retread and a waste of past picks.

But, when you have to cut your losses, you gotta cut ‘em. Even Al Davis only has so much patience.

Im disappointed in Al Davis because he’s not trying to voice his displeasure with whats happening on the field. Its almost like he doesn’t care and he’s settling for this horrible play. The back-in-the-day Al Davis would have done something major to turn things around. Now Al Davis just sits there on collects his money and he doesn’t care anymore.

With our balanced passing attack and steady dosage of pounding the rock and pension for not turning it over?

Our brilliant coaching alone gives us the edge.

Seriously though, if we came out as hard as we did in that game in the following 6, we’d probably have a better record or at least a better points for – points against margin.

  • RaiderRockstar

i say we keep Chaz on the shelf and let him roll as a slot WR against KC following the bye. he has sure hands, but i don’t think he’ll be a speed demon after breaking a bone in his foot in August …

that will be 2 home games in a row for him. Maybe that’ll attract a few more fans to come out?

Man we need help on the o-line and a QB. The WR we have now can get it done. Look who’s trying to throw to them (emphasis on trying). If we could protect a QB who could throw, no doubt Murphy, Schillens and eventually DHB could get it done. WE shoud draft a OT for the right side of the line, Henderson’s doing a decent job on the left and he and Gallery will be good together. We need a RT, RG and a center with a mean streak. We then need to concentrate on MLB and OLB.

Believe me I blame AD for only so much. After that, the guys on the field have to be held accountable. No way the D plays the way they did against Philly and then turns around and plays the way they did against NYJ. That’s a lack of focus and desire on the part of the players. That was horrible.

It IS a shame we are talking about the draft already, but as much as it hurts, I have accepted the fact that the season (for any meaningful reason) is over. We need to continue playing our young receivers for the rest of the season, and get JLH some snaps as well, what a waste. JRuss’s fat ass needs to get the rest of the reps for the remainder of the year, so that if he does not improve or continues to regress, coaches can say they gave every opportunity for the 1st pick of the draft to get better.

kills me to think we could have had AP.

    “Crabtree can catch

The guy Davis passed over made his NFL debut Sunday. Despite missing all of training camp, Michael Crabtree opened his NFL career with 5 catches, looked fantastic on routes, hustled on his blocks, and looks to have great hands. Meanwhile across the bay, Darrius Heyward-Bey has a grand total of 4 catches thru his first seven games, and dropped yet another pass, this one in the end zone.

On the plus side, if the Raiders and Niners even meet up in a track meet, Heyward-Bey gives the silver and black a huge advantage. So they’ve got that going for them, which is nice.”

^^^^^^Like Cody….but what worries me about him is if the Raiders pick him within the top 6 picks…..then the big guy will looooove that big undeserved money and he may problems staying in shape and being OVERWEIGHT!

Do this team really need another problem with picking a big fat player like that and paying huge money and it being a waste of a pick….because he may eat his way out of the league?

Suh would be a better and much safer pick. Suh would be able to replace Seymour if they lose him.

    Hello RaiderNation,
All this talk about next years draft has me wondering about Tommy Trojan. Where is he? TT is like Puxatony Phil, He comes out of his hole once a year, voices his opinions about the draft, sees his shadow, and then goes away for another year. I’d like to hear his thoughts during the season. And what about Bob Marley? I always enjoyed his posts/opinions. I hope he hasn’t thrown in the towel in disgust. With regards to the draft, it has to be heavy OL/DL. Football games are won in the trenches. Also throw in a big, physical Middle line backer in rounds 2 or 3. IMO.

  • bank-bank

Im telling you now Jamarcus Russell needs to sit for awhile because he’s regressing before our eyes an it aint pretty. The rest of the team is suffering because of his poor play.Jamarcus dont WANT IT yet because of his work ethic is terrible. He never comes in to camp in shape. He doesnt want to be the best that he could be,otherwise he would show by staying after practice to work on it that would be a great example of hard work and sacrafice. He’s just not a leader and graet quaterbacks are pure leaders period!!!!!

DKnight007 @ post#37 Like I said watch Terrance Cody play and then talk to me.Trust me Terrance Cody has a great motor and a great work ethic. He’s not Jamarcus who has no work ethic and doesn’t want to get better.

Yeah and what about Seymore? We gonna lose this guy at the end of the year or pay him? He’s proven. We need to lock him up now. Don’t franchise him next year, and it looks like we are headed that way.

Yeah crabtree had a great first game. Again, we have Schillens who plays the same position, is bigger and faster, and he’s got a great attitude. I understand why the Raiders didn’t pick him up. Again, we have Schillens. I don’t agree with pick DHB so high, but why cry over spilt milk. Besides if he did pick Crabtree, he wouldn’t have very many catches with fat ass at QB.

Offensive line is the most important position on the football field. No one with a good offensive line has a bad team.

  • Bobby Bushay

As bad as things look offensively, perhaps two or three players could turn it around next year. IF (and that seemingly is a growing larger IF) JaMarcus DOES begin to get it after the bye week in the last 8 games, we may turn this thing around faster than any of us realize… I then I woke up… No, seriously, looking at all of the stats of great offensive stars in their early years seem to point to one thing – Stars are not made over night. We tried the veteran way in the offensive skill positions in ’04 – ’06, now we are REALLY in year two of a youth movement (based on Russell’s hold out) and 2nd OFFENSIVE staff. Besides the “game smarts” and growing, NOW is the time for Seymour or another veteran to get in Russell’s ear about how pros go about their business – not that I’m a Tom Brady guy – but I would think that Seymour would have a basis to talk from.

  • bank-bank

Terrance Cody would clog the middle with Pro Bowl caliber play. He’ll definitly help stop the run and will always be double-teamed.He’s a player that handles his weight well.Plus,he’s a great player and would make everybody else around him better.
