Cable stays the course
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, November 2nd, 2009 at 3:32 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Despite the best attempts of ESPN to get Tom Cable to comment on its story regarding his history of violence toward women, the Raiders coach deflected all questions that didn’t have to do with the play of his 2-6 team.
To summerize, Cable said he hasn’t talked to the NFL, hasn’t talked with Al Davis about the story and when asked about his future and job security said, “I’m coaching the Raiders and I think my future is to be coach of the Raiders.”
What players there were in the locker room reacted to questions about Cable’s latest situation much as they did queries about the alleged assault on assistant Randy Hanson _ with a “none of my business” indifference.
Taking a 2-6 record into the bye week is enough to worry about.
“I didn’t see so I don’t really know, but at this point it’s just allegations, so until something concrete comes out, I don’t really have any thoughts on it,” defensive end Jay Richardson said.
Rookie wide receiver Louis Murphy said he was too busy to get into the domestic history of his head coach.
“It really hasn’t been a distraction for me because I really don’t watch TV,” Murphy said. “I’m still a rookie. I’m getting adjusted to the 12, 13 hour days, so by the time I get home, it’s shut eye for me. I just hope that the media, it doesn’t take over our team and I know we have are a real good core group of team leaders so I don’t think it will affect our team that much.”
Said tight end Zach Miller: “With the Randy Hanson thing early in the season it’s the same thing along those lines. We’re not thinking about it and we’re not worried about the outside distractions. We’re just focused on being a better football team.”
Asked if he was surprised by the ESPN “Outside the Lines” story, Miller wouldn’t bite.
“The things that get brought up in the media, I don’t know what the reasons are for it, things that have happened in the past,” Miller said. “That’s for you guys to make the story out of it. I’m not worried about it. I’m not getting into it.”
Football news to come shortly . . .

Thanks Jerry.
Hate to say it, but that DHB collision play is too funny! I must have watched that 20 times.
Sums up the season….
November 2nd, 2009 at 3:30 pm
Cable took a page out of the Phil Jackson handbook and decided to show the movie “A History of Violence” to inspire the team going into the bye week.

If we could only get past the circus.

Fair or not, the formerly anonymous Cable is now an ogre to many.
November 2nd, 2009 at 3:37 pm
We need O-linemen. Draft all O-linemen in next year’s draft. JaDumAzz is too slow to quickly go through his progressions, make hot reads, sense pressure, or recognize formations and make audibles. Therefore, we need to give the kid EXTRA time. Never mind that other QB’s like Rivers know exactly where to go with the ball when blitzed. Our big Dough Boy is different. Special, even.
So, we need to draft O-line and ONLY O-line.
And we need to work out trades for Andre Johnson and Reggie Wayne. Russell needs all the help he can get. He needs others to make *him* better, and not the other way around.

ESPN Sportscenter just confirmed that Tom Cable is indeed a member of the infamous Indian Tribe, the Slap-A-Hoes.
November 2nd, 2009 at 3:40 pm

Of course the players are going to downplay this in the media. Then, once Cable gets canned and they get a new coach it’ll be “We’re just so glad to be rid of the distractions”.

Beater

Press Conference.
Al Davis: “Looking up on the screen, you will see the personal conduct clause in Tom Cable’s contract. I will not pay one cent to the violent wife and woman beater. He has been removed from his position as Head Coach of da Raiders. The greatness of the Raiders is in its future. The next interim head Coach is Dakota who has bugged the crap out of me with his posts on JerryMacs blog. But I will not die for him!
JaMarcus Russell is a great QB and will remain the starter.”

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…..
Has that stubborn looney Al Davis relinquished control of football operations and decision making yet??
Wake me up when he “retires” and hires a REAL GM/HEAD OF FOOTBALL OPERATIONS AND PERSONNEL and REAL HEAD COACH….then things will get interesting again.
Otherwise it’s a waste of time and energy giving a rats a$$ about this team.
Al Davis SUCKS!

405 – you watched it 20 times and still don’t know that it was Murphy and Higgins, not DHB?? That’s funny!

Tom Cable has a poster of Ike Turner hanging in his office.

“Sure, I’ve slapped Tina… There have been times when I punched her to the ground without thinking. But I never beat her”
Tom Cable’s favorite Ike Turner quote.

Dakota: “I’d like to thank Mr. Davis for the job. Al, Al, Al, opps, I think I’ve been standing on his oxgen tube! Code Blue in the press room!”

Ex-wives and girlfriend (if you didn’t read further Cable’s second ex-wife, although supportive of Tom acknowledged abuse) – time to be shown the door. Beating on Hanson or not is okay. Boy stuff. BSPN with irresponsible journalism without asking an involved party for comment? Of course. They wouldn’t say this sh#t about any Belicheat or Shanarat. It’s Da Raiduhs and they are hated. Sin embargo, el jefe se necessita ir por el mejor de los malosos.

“More than 20 years ago, during my first marriage, I became aware that my wife Sandy had committed adultery,” Cable said. “I became very angry and slapped her with an open hand. What I did was wrong and I have regretted and felt sorrow about that moment ever since,” Cable said in his statement.

STATEMENT ABOUT ALLEGATIONS
Over the last few days, we learned of the allegations made against Coach Cable and we are, of course, aware of his response thereto. In conjunction with the League office, we will undertake a serious evaluation of this matter.
We wish to be clear that we do not in any way condone or accept actions such as those alleged.
There have been occasions on which we have dismissed Raider employees for having engaged in inappropriate conduct. For reasons of privacy, we kept the basis for those dismissals confidential. We endured public opprobrium for the dismissals, all the while knowing our basis for them was appropriate.

OAKLAND RAIDERS RELEASE STATEMENT ABOUT ESPN
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 2, 2009
STATEMENT ABOUT ESPN
ESPN’s role in this matter must be carefully examined. ESPN routinely disseminates falsehoods about the Raiders. During the last year, ESPN (working with someone who was in this organization) engaged in a calculated effort to distort the truth about the Raiders, utilizing lies and innuendo.

Cable may be lousy as an HC and deserve to be terminated for various reason but he is definitely a better football coach than are either Mangenius (old or new Cleveland = ZERO SB appearances) or Haley (KC = ZERO SB appearances in 40 years) and no one is advocating the league take over those franchises from ownership.
