“What moves should the Raiders make before they take the field again in two weeks?”

    -Hire a real head coach
    -Hire an offensive coordinator
    -Sign a real QB
-Sign a WR who can separate and catch
-Sign O Lineman who can block
    -Play your better players

    The showcase of youngsters continues.

  3. DMAC Says:

I agree LA, but don’t forget to fire the LB’s and WR’s coach. Oh, and pick up a bruising run stuffing MLB and move captain Kirk back to SLB.

    1. Explain to the “simpleton” portion of it’s fan base that the NFL is in the business of Entertainment and not a Religion. Their shallow little lives don’t depend on the outcome of it’s performances.

    2. Release a statement declaring that the Raiders will not be active in the post season and for those who think differently to seek professional help.

    3. Remind everyone that Oakland is in the United States
and therefore protected by the Constitution and all of it’s rights concerning the ownership of private property…The Raider belong to Al Davis and his limited partners…..not the public.

4.Explain that Al Davis has the right to run his team any way he sees fit, and does not need the approval of anyone in doing so.

    5. Explain that there are 31 other choices in the NFL if the fans are not happy with the product they are providing.

    6. Explain to the Al Davis haters that their stubborness to be Raider fans in the face of the teams recent decline is no different that that of Al Davis’ to keep running the teamas he sees fit.

Yea!!!! 20 years ago I  should have married Jackelyn Smith  Instead of marrying the beech  from h&ll  Although it was fun  backhanding that beech

    moves to make

get the Cable guy a room at a Knoxville motor lodge so he can be near his dear Kitten.

tell JRuss that if he doesn’t put in the work and begin to perform even mediocrely he will not be seeing 10 mil in the spring.

tell DMc he sure looked good getting off the bus those few times he did so in the past two years.

tell WRs in general that eluding coverage IS permitted.

  9. HairyBush Says:

Ok I just have to know your guys opinion on this statement regarding recently cut WR Chris Chambers. Cable was basically asked weather he would consider the former SD wideout as an option. Cable’s response-”I don’t think so at this point with who we have”

WTF does this mean?!??!? Are you saying were all set at wideout? are you saying all the receivers we have are more talented than veteran Chris Chambers? Honestly I did not mind Cable, but this dude is really starting to aggrevate me! What an assenine statement!

  10. LA to TheBay Says:

    So…………..how bout them Raiders?

  11. LA to TheBay Says:

So, at this point in their respective careers, who is the biggest bust?

    Heyward-Bey

  12. Dakota Says:

Tom Cable is the biggest bust thus far…by far.

  14. RaiderRockstar Says:

cut Todd Watkins and get Chris Chambers in here ASAP!

Greg Ellis is out? I hope his knee doesn’t cost him the remainder of the season. He & Seymour seemed to breathe life into this awful D-Line. At least for a few games …

Man, if we get Gallery, Green, McFadden, Schilens & Miller back against KC I think we have a shot at beating them. They outplayed us in Game 1 and we were lucky enough that they killed themselves with penalties and dropped INT’s

  15. Dakota Says:

    KK,

    Did you get my e-mail???

  16. lefty12 Says:

LOL-the guy plays 8 games where it usually takes a couple of years to establish yourself,he plays with a QB who can’t see the field or hit water from a boat in the ocean, and you are calling DHB a bust.
to those that want Cable fired-he is trying to coach a team with above QB who can’t learn the play book, and you want him fired.most of you are the same people who complain about the constant coaching changes the team makes.you SAY you want some consistency yet every year, half way through the season you want to fire the coach.and you people complain about the old man.

  17. KoolKell Says:

Al, if you insist on drafting Wide Receiver, it’s gotta be Crabtree, no?

  18. KoolKell Says:

In 2 games Crabtree has doubled Bey’s production, no?

  19. KoolKell Says:

    I got it Pau ;-)

  20. HairyBush Says:

1)Russell is biggest bust and will continue to be.
I will give one example (even though there is many). I was watching the Saints and Drew Brees last night and was just thinking to myself wow it’s really cool to watch an actual quarterback who can make audibles, fire his team up, as well as being a respected leader. Jamarcus will never any of those things. He’s to stupid and selfish and always will be. Any one who thinks diffrently is clearly delusional. (by the way I enjoy a fair share of kool aid, but not when it comes to this useless piece of farm machinery.

    2) Mcfadden there may be hope for. Although I can see his career ending before it really starts. toughen up, learn how to condtion yourself do something besides make commercials!

    3) Heyward-Bey? who the F knows. probaly another wasted pick. Perhaps if he was in New England and didn’t have to start and got to learn from so pros as well as having Brady pass to him. Reality is he’s a Raider that will more than likely make James Jett look like Jerry rice in his prime.

  21. RaiderRockstar Says:

hey Kell, what do you think of Tom Cable?

does he deserve to keep his job?

  22. lefty12 Says:

Craptree plays with professional QBs-DHB doesn’t.

  23. Dakota Says:

    Lefty12,

Please advocate why you think Tom Cable should remain HC of the Oakland Raiders beyond this year. What exactly has he done to deserve to waste another year of the Oakland Raiders’ time?

  24. KoolKell Says:

    Rockstar

You tell me. You’re the judgemental podunk values guy. You tell me buddy.

  25. Dakota Says:

    KK,

    Great. I hope it helped.

  26. RaiderRockstar Says:

    Kell,

are you still a big Russell supporter?

Tom Cable has lost 2 winnable games against SD and 3 blowout losses against the Texans, Jets & Giants. We should have beat the Jets & Texans and DOMINATED the chiefs. Could have at least been competitive against the Giants with Eli Manning injured and some key starters out on defense. I don’t think he’s done enough to keep his job on the football field. all the off-field issues certainly don’t help.

  27. KoolKell Says:

I wish he had slapped Turd Sands around instead.

  28. KoolKell Says:

Go upside Russell’s head, tough guy.

  29. lefty12 Says:

Dakota-all that will be hired if he is fired is another no name, probably unqualified coach.why bother making a change like that.i’d like to see what Cable could do if he had a real QB playing for him.if you look at his play calling it isn’t much different than what a lot of coaches are calling.he is severely handicapped due to Russell.i look at him the same way i look at DHB-we really don’t know what he can do due to the bum we have under center.

    ***

couldn’t agree more Lefty. I said before the season started that Russell would cost Cable, Hackett & Tollner their jobs. I still stand by that.

when your “franchise” QB only has 2 TD’s and a whopping 15 turnovers in 8 games you aren’t going to win many ballgames.

*** enter the guys who blame everybody EXCEPT Russell ***

no other QB in the league is starting with a completion percentage & passer rating both below 50.

where’s Danny Southwick? if he’s not gonna get a shot at QB, promote him to HC and save some coin

  31. Ghost to the Post Says:

We need more change in Oakland like we need a hole in all of our heads. The fact that the media is witch hunting our coach is even more reason to keep him. We can make the same argument over the last 5 head coaches for the raiders record wise and developmentally. At least Cable wants to be here. And no we are not going to hire Gruden, Cowher, Shanahan, or any good coach. So we are better off with Cable than anyone else at this point.

  32. Dakota Says:

    Cable as HC and OC:

    6-14

    QB is not progressing.

    O-line has fallen apart.

    The Offense generates nothing.

The team looks uninspired and quits in about 75% of their games.

    NINE blowout losses under Cable.

What has the guy done right?

  33. lefty12 Says:

Tom Cable didn’t lose those games-the players did.most on here talk about how Davis controls everything-orders what the schemes should be,who should be playing,etc.-so why put so much blame on the coach?don’t you think if he could Cable would have made changes to the line-ups?don’t you think ,if he could have,he would have pulled Russell in some of the games?

  34. KoolKell Says:

    Lefty

Give it up friend. I know Russell and his fur coats offer a big juicy pork target. But C’mon dude. The Raiders problems go waaay beyond and before him.

He’s only the symptom, not the disease.

  35. Dakota Says:

    Lefty12,

I know we couldn’t get the likes of Cowher, Dungy, Gruden, Shanny, Holmgren etc to even look our way, but some guys could have been hired, and still could be hired that at least have SOME qualifications on their resume to justify being our HC.

You are right, we can’t fire Cable just to hire Sanjay Lal, but if you could get a Jim Fassel that would be a huge step up over Cable (sadly).

At least Fassel knows how to win football games in the NFL…Cable doesn’t have the first fukkin clue.

  36. Ghost to the Post Says:

Let’s give Cable 4 years, and Jamarcus, DHB, and McFadden. If after 4 years as starters they all still suck fire the lot of them. What’s four more bad years at this point?

even he is too good for this train wreck now.

does Al still have the cell phone # for Winston Moss or is Lionel Washington the next contestant on “the Al is right” ???

  39. RaiderRockstar Says:

I wonder if Tom is still mad at Lane for taking his o-line coach and giving him double the work?

  40. Simon Says:

who cares about a live chat about a team that will never change until the owner goes away. Jerry isnt even a Raider fan he’s jsut trying to preserve his job by hosting this drivel. The other owners need to stand up to AL. Insanity.

  41. DMAC Says:

The job will go to gilbride. Al will give him another shot.

  42. lefty12 Says:

Dakota-Cable doesn’t have a phucking QB.you don’t win in the NFL without a competent QB-period.the oline has injuries and we let our center go in FA thinking the guy he replaced would be just as good and he isn’t.we had a chance to draft a quality olineman and didn’t.are those things the coaches fault,or the GM?

  43. Chris in NY Says:

Gilbride has a worse career NFL head coaching record than Cable! That would be a terrible hire. The guy is an average offensive coordinator. Not a head coach who’s going to dig a team out of a hole of 7 straight seasons of double-digit losses.

Fassel or Gruden. Those are the only two real choices for me.

  44. Ghost to the Post Says:

The regular changing of the head coach has been really effective too.

  45. RaiderRockstar Says:

    later fellas. work to do

    carpe diem!

  46. doriangray Says:

leavE cable alone. cable is a good o line coach. so ..?? he shouldnt have accepted the head coaching job? but ….. unmmm. lets rehire MARC TRESTMAN

  47. Dakota Says:

It is Cable’s job as HC to have the team prepared to play!

Can you honestly say that this man has the team prepared to play? NINE blowout losses in 20 games! You can’t seriously think that this guy has the ability to make the Raiders a better team!

The players are not performing…IT IS HIS JOB TO MAKE THEM PERFORM. He simply can’t get that job done now can he? The players have the talent, you can see that about every 4th game under Cable, so we need a guy that can bring that out of them on a more consistent basis.

You want to give Cable another season to prove to you that he is incapable of being an NFL HC? Really? Jezuz cripes!

  48. KoolKell Says:

How do you blow 3 Top Ten draft picks in a row?

You mean to tell me, a GM could draft 3 straight busts? in the Top ?

Nobody could do that!!!! The Laws of Averages won’t permit it.

It’s not the players my friends.

  49. LA to TheBay Says:

Well, Cable calls plays that our QB can’t execute.

The QB can’t audible out of those plays.

    WRs can’t get open.

RBs are running into defenses keyed in on stopping the run because they know we can’t pass.

So, finally Cable realizes he has no passing game and runs the ball somewhat effectively and we stay close.

Verdict: Russell, after 3 years in the NFL, is nowhere near ready. The only time he changes the play is if he sees something he doesn’t like and calls a run, which the defense is clearly aware of.

His receivers aren’t attacking the ball.

His coach is forcing the issue and hadn’t been shortening routes, trying to be aggressive with talent that does not exist.

Solution: Either get a QB that can execute those plays and have sub-par receievers AT LEAST make more catches than they do now.

    or

Get WRs that absolutely attack the ball and make fearless, leaping grabs and keep Russell as starter.

    or

Get a coach that calls plays that the current roster can execute. Russell needs to get the ball out of his hands quickly.

    Wow, what a mess.

My take: Bench JaMarcus and make him learn from a veteran that you trade for, as the FA market leaves a lot to be desired. If he is your guy, Al, fine, develop him because development on the fly has not worked. Drafting another one in rd. 1 will set the club back several more seasons. A QB in later rounds as an insurance policy is not a bad idea, as this year’s draft will be quite deep.

Scrap the B&B offense and install a WCO with timing routes and allow your speedy WRs to make plays after the catch and rack up YAC.

The point is moot because Al runs the show. Al likes Russell and is willing to be patient. Al wants vertical and has a HC who will apply that philosophy. Al wants speedy WRs to outrun coverage and grac bombs. Our WRs can’t run routes or catch and are being jammed at the LOS or running too far downfield as their QB is sacked after a pourous O Line has allowed defenders into the backfield.

Russell shows a lack of pocket awareness and can’t avoid the pass rush.

Russell needs to watch film of Carson Palmer about 10 hours a day and spend the rest with a fitness guru.

  50. Dakota Says:

    Lefty12,

I am just trying to follow your advice in not blaming everything on Al Davis! Like you say, Al isn’t going anywhere, so we have to change SOMETHING! That would be the inept HC our inept GM hired.

Then we have to hope and pray for a miracle hire like the Gruden hire.

You can’t take all my hope away by telling me that not only do I have put up with Al Davis, but we might as well stick with Cable too just because lol!

Besides, it is Cable’s job to develop the players, including the QB. He failed. The QB isn’t going anywhere, so get someone qualified to actually coach QBs (JIM FASSEL) and then EMPOWER HIM to do his job Al Davis!

    Mother fukker where’s they Tylenol?

  51. DMAC Says:

It is Cable’s job as HC to have the team prepared to play!

The regular changing of the head coach has been really effective too.

    ——————

The problem isn’t changing coaches, it’s the coaches we hire. Callahan, Norv, Art Shell, Kiffin (probably the best of the bunch but obviously some stuff went down) and Cable.

Cable never should have been brought back after last season. He was dead in the water entering Week 16. Blowout after blowout. He was 2-8 since taking over. Then we beat two mediocre non-playoff teams to close out the year and everyone acts like Cable is Vince freaking Lombardi. That’s because the Raiders have sucked for so long that a meaningless 2-game winning streak seemed like something to get a boner about.

Aside from the 2-6 start and 4 blowout losses already this year you’ve got the embarassing off-field stuff. The writing is on the wall. Cable has been loyal to Al and the Raiders and that’s the only thing that could possibly save his job at this point.

I’d be more shocked if Cable is the coach in 2010 than I would be if we find out he’s done right now and never coaches the Raiders again.

  66. Silver-n-Smac Says:

    Come on man –

Constantly hiring & firing coaches is the last thing this team needs.

Tom Cable can be a damned good coach for this team once the young, immature, inexperience core of skill players he has develop into legit NFL-caliber players. Right now, he has inexperience across the board, not to mention an offensive line that, when healthy, has 2 legitimate players on it.

    Dakota:

Give me a bleeping break man. You blame Cable for the blowout losses because it’s HIS job to have the players prepared? Are you freakin’ kidding me? If you are a professional athlete and don’t have the will-power, guts, determination NOT to get blown out 38-0 on your own home field, then you don’t belong on the freakin’ field.

The bottom line is that guys like Namdi, Morrison, Howard, Kelly (all good players), are LOSERS. I don’t mean they’re losers in terms of their character or skill-set, but rather, that they’ve known nothing but losing since they entered this league and they’ve learned to accept and expect it. Until that mentality changes, the Raiders will not climb out of this hell-hole that they are in.

That’s not a coach’s job (to inspire an NFL player to be passionate on Sundays). That’s BS. If a coach and his assistants but together a halfway-decent game plan, no NFL team should ever lose 38-0 at home. So, when that happens, it’s all about lack of determination by the players.

That does NOT mean they quit on Sundays. It just means they have no idea how to win. And until we acquire a few more players with winning backgrounds, that won’t change.

How prepared did good’ol Bill Bellichick have his Cleveland Browns prepared to play on Sundays?

    ‘Nuff Said.

Cable has finally seen the light that we MUST emphasize the run to set up the pass instead of the other way around. This bye should be used to get this Oline as in synch as possible. I had forgotten about Nick Miller in the passing game out of the slot.

Man I can’t wait to see some competent WR’s to open up the field for ZMiller. Also the running game. I als noticed that baiscally all the major injuries that we have incurred were all on offense. I never noticed until I read the list of players we have coming back. They all play on offense except for Rickey Brown.

That should at least give us a boost offensively.

    I hope!!

  109. alisgod Says:

    Priesttj,

I agree. Against KC is the next game that I will judge to see if Cable sticks to his game plan of pounding the rock and giving us a chance to win. Cable has been guilty of calling aggressive plays. They end up leading us to blow outs. After the Jets game he seemed to have realized that and admitted as much. I hope he sticks to the same pound the rock gameplan to give us a chance to win.

Now with Miller and Schilens coming in those other two rookies can play supporting roles which is what they are. It’ll take all that pressure off them and just let them play. Hopefully before the year is out we’ll see what kind of offense we really should’ve had.

Bigtime players make bigtime plays. Also Jerry those pointbs were scored in a preseason game and That is not what the coach was alluding to he was saying the impact that Chaz would’ve had on this offense. Points notwithstanding he would availed Russell a go to guy on crucial downs something that’s been sorely missing.

Over and over and over again. And then there are the idiots who want to bring Gruden back. Jesus H. Christ. Gruden is WHY we are in the shape we are. He sold out our team for short term aged veteran players and never developed any young players. Think I am kidding??? How’s Tampon Bay doing right now?? The problem with this team is the constant mistakes. Constant, constant, constant mistakes. This team is not good enough to overcome a myriad of mistakes. The Jets did not make a lot of mistakes. The Jets won.
    ==============================================
Look at the first interception Jamarcus threw in the last game. Someone ran the wrong route. Why were two receivers right next to each other in the pattern??? I can tell you: mistakes. Late in the game two receivers knock each other down. In the Jet game, the pick that got taken down to our five, Bush and Zack ran into each other, knocking each other down, resulting in an easy pick. Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes.

    =====================================================
ATL was a 12 win team right before they went into decline three years ago. Miami was a 9 win team 2 years ago. The Jets have won at least 10 games in 2 of the last 5 years. The Broncos won 14 games 4 years ago and were in the 7-9 win range since. We have LOST 10+ games the last 6 years now going on a 7th. Comparing us to these teams is like comparing the LA Clippers to the Utah Jazz or one other team that has a couple of down years versus decades of institutionalized losing.

You don’t get rid of someone just to get rid of them. Who is in the wings ready, willing and able to take over that is going to be better?? And maybe what we should prioritize is STABILITY at the head coaching position. I always love that some “fans” here think Cable should take over and things should be instantly incredibly better. There is almost a DECADE of institutionalized incompetance here. That doesn’t change quickly. And a new coach, with a new system, with new players and a new routine and a new staff, would take at least 2-3 years to take hold with no guarantee of ANY better results. Cable is 4-6 in his last 10 games and team has played TERRIBLY. Those are the facts.

    =============================================

You know something “Gutless POS”, I am going to answer your questions:

    1) two weeks ago we watched an 11 year NFL veteran 5 time Pro Bowl Q who has been to 5 Conference Championship Games and a Super Bowl versus one making his 22nd NFL start who is generally regarded as the worst Q in the league. One was rattled and made some poor decisions, completing LESS than 50% of his passes, the other one was directed and poised, completed over 60% of his passes, making a couple of pass completions in crunch time to win the game. Who is who??

    2) One Coach took over a team that was arguably a talented team. The team had been hovering around the 8 win mark, and was generally considered to be underachieving. Following a 4-12 debacle Gruden lead his team to consecutive 8-8 marks. Cable on the other hand took over a team in complete and utter disarray in the middle of a coaching change and general chaos. He took over a team that had posted AT LEAST 10 LOSSES for 6 straight years!! He won the 2nd game he ever coached, was 4-8 in first season, and is 4-6 in his last 10 games. Right now, Jon Gruden cannot get an NFL coaching job. Who do you think is a better coach??

    3) And old Hall of Fame NFL coach once said to me, “if I don’t believe in them, who will believe in them?” Fukk all of you, if I am the last person standing, I will believe in them. But they have to do the things it takes to win. Making mistake after mistake after mistake, is not doing what it takes to win.

then why use our second pick in the draft on a stron safety. It makes no sense to me.
    ================================================

I can answer that. The Raiders defensive scheme uses their safeties interchangably, not strong and weak. One thing that all the winning teams have is that GREAT safety. Pitt has Polamalu, Ariz has Wilson, Baltimore has Ed Reed, think it is a coincidence that Denver went out and got Brian Dawkins and their defense has been very very good?? The light had not gone off for Mike Huff and no one thought Tyvon would be playing as well as he has. Mike Huff has been excellent, and Tyvon might be even better back there.

  170. LA to TheBay Says:

Well, one has to wonder how Mithchell fits into the Raiders scheme unless they play a cover 2 on certain passing downs (which they occasionally do).

Typically, our SS shadows the TE. Huff was actually rather good at this, just wasn’t wrapping up once it came time to tackle after the catch.

They put him at centerfield and Cable was having none of it.

The Raiders centerfielder over the last several years ends up playing MLB half the time because of poor gap discipline from the LBs and little pressure from the front 4.

Mike Mithcell is here to crack people. Can he shadow the other team’s TE? We have yet to see.

The plan was probably to let Huff go in the offseason and have Branch (who is apparently able to play both spots)play FS centerfield.

Right now, Branch is shadowing the TEs and Huff is playing centerfield very well, so Oak is right.

Mitchell is a ST’er and a goal line DB until the scheme changes or Huff is let go in FA.

Why else would they hold a press conference announcing his return?

A lot of hype for a 2nd year player with 15 career catches and a foot injury in a non contact drill.

If he had cleared waivers I would have been all for a veteran WR to mentor these young kids, cuz Javon Walker ain’t no mentor.

That dude can straight out ball. The KC game is not a cake walk like most people believe. With Chambers and Bowe, KC is extremely tough.

  198. buckeyeraider Says:

    Hello Nation,
I know it’s hard to preach patience, and hear stay the course, when the present course seems to be crash and burn. When the team is struggling like it is the easy answer is to fire the coach, he’s obviously a big, fat idiot. Cut the bust qb, He’s an even bigger, fatter, lazy idiot. But seriously the constant HC/QB carousel that has been going on with this franchise has to stop. These guys have to be given the balance of this year, and another offseason to develop and be judged fairly.
Awhile back, I was on here talking to KoolKell about the Bo Jackson MNF game in 87, the way the DC blitzed that night, the play of Stacy Toran, etc. Watching that game on espn classic was bittersweet. On one hand it was fun watching Long and Townsend, and the great players I grew up with, out there running around again. On the other hand it was sad, because that was really the end of the Autumn Wind Raiders of old. Flores resigned after that season, and that was when the modern era of constant HC/QB carousel began.
Up until that point the Raiders had been the model franchise, enjoying a 25 year run of almost unparalleled success. They were damn near in at least the conf. championship game every year. That era was marked by stability and smooth transition at head coach and quarterback. After 87 it was almost constant turmoil. Shanny was canned after 20 games. A mistake in hindsight? Head coaches, most of them one and done – White, Bugel, Callahan, Turner, Shell II., Kiffin. Retread, Hasbeens , and never was QB’s too many to mention have been trotted out onto the field. The insanity has to stop.
Russel has to be given a chance to mature, and grow. Maybe, if the offense doesn’t improve Cable relinquishes play calling to Hackett or Tollner. Hopefully, after the bye, with the return of Gallery, McFadden and Chaz, the offense begins to show improvement, so that this offseason can be focused on fine tuning, and not blowing the whole thing up and starting over. Again.

    Hello…anybody out there?Raider Nation?
As far as the Cable controversy, I don’t want to sound like I’m making excuses for Tom, nor do I condone violence against women, but is it unfair to go back 20 years and judge him for admittedly striking his wife. From today’s perspective it’s just different. Societal norms have changed, and for the better. Didn’t Jackie Gleason ball his fist, and threaten to send his wife to the moon? Weren’t they always slappin Dames around in them old black and white movies?
It’s like child raising. I remember my mom and her siblings talking about getting whipped with switches until their legs bled. I couldn’t imagine doing that to one of my daughters. I used to get whipped with a belt. Hell, I don’t even spank my girls. they get put in “timeout”. Times have changed. Drunken driving was looked at differently 20 years ago. It was no big deal, a slap on the wrist. Now throught the efforts of MADD, it’s looked at much more seriously. I’m not saying spousal abuse was ok back then, just it was a different era. The last lady just sounds like a jilted girlfriend. She showed up uninvited, and he escorted her out by the arm. No charges were filed. I don’t know.

Will Jamarcus Russell progress to be a good NFL QB?
    ===================================================

We talked about this from before he was drafted on this board. This kid has the most remarkable skill set for a QB in a decade. Maybe two decades. He went 25-4 as a starter in arguably the toughest conference in the NCAA. That is not easy. He had the 3rd highest passer rating in the nation his Junior season behind just Colt Brennan and John Beck. That shows he is accurate. He came out early. His first TD pass to Jerry Porter against SD was absolutely remarkable. Watching him play at times last year (Denver, Houston, TB) he seemed a very very solid prospect. Hence my bona fide statement.
What I said about Russell coming into this season was he COULD NOT REGRESS on ANY level. Not on accuracy, leadership, health, game knowledge, conditioning, study habits, decision making etc. Clearly, he has regressed on most if not ALL those items. Some of that is absolutely his fault, some not so much. Can he be a very very very good NFL Q??? Absolutely. But two things have to happen: the players around him MUST play better, and he needs to play MUCH BETTER himself. Hope that helps.

I tend to concur with what Jerry has stated before when he says its not talent, its execution.

There is a lot of talent in Oakland but when you watch them play, they don’t play with intensity and fire often reactionary instead of dictating tempo and playing down to opponents.

It really is a mental thing in Raiderland. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be THAT GUY who steps in and challenges everyone to be their best because he won’t settle for less.
Like a Ray Lewis or like Rich Gannon used to do.
Until we find THAT GUY or our fortunes will remain the same because unmotivated coasters will make it seem ok to slack simply because under Davis’s command, they can.

  218. Nnamdi21 Says:

Ever hear another word about that? NOPE.

ESPN tolled out this BS “story” to smear the Raiders and Al Davis.

Putting your hands on a woman is reprehensible.

    Period.

Doesn’t mean you can’t learn, grow and move past.

If you condemned everyone who did something wrong there would be very few people walking around.

But smearing a team thats sucked this bad is unsavory and smacks of yellow journalism that aides Hanson’s civil suit and alllows the ****wads at ESPN to generate “news” at Oaklands and real battered womens expense.

  219. Nnamdi21 Says:

For those of you wanting to talk football…

For fans of snagging a defensive player with our high 1st round draft pick the last few drafts reality bites.

Alot of people lamented Davis’s decision to go O in the last few drafts, but some of the defenders some of you would have chosen haven’t exactly lit the NFL on fire.

DT Sedrick Ellis is currently having his knee looked at. Hasn’t been a complete bustamente’, but isn’t igniting the League either.

Raider fan choice Glen Dorsey has down right struggled after being touted as one of the best defensive prospects in years, granted, KC has changed defense to a 3-4 not particularly suited to him but he’s under whelmed none the less. (Maybe Oakland can snag him from the Cheifs?)
Vernon Ghoulston was available when the Raiders picked and flopped his first year. Hasn’t been much better.

Legacy Howie Longs kid Chris, has done little to justify the expense in St. Louis.

DE Gaines Adams flopped in Miami and was traded recently to the Bears for a #2 draft pick.

Taken 8th overall that year was DE Jaamal Anderson who has totalled exactly 2 sacks since 2007.

McFadden may be a bust so far and Russell is struggling, but burning your high DP on a defensive guy is just, if not more riskier then going O.

  257. Chris in NY Says:

Chambers is garbage. Why would we bring him here? He was decent for several seasons but has looked terrible the last two years.

Through 8 games he’s got 9 catches for 122 yards and 1 TD. Actually, sounds like he’d fit right in with the rest of our receiving corps with those numbers. But that’s not a good thing.

Not to mention Chambers played on a team with a successful passing offense and good QB. He might actually somehow have negative catches if he had joined the Raiders.

  258. 4evaRaider Says:

  259. Ghost to the Post Says:

When will this team ever build any continuity firing the head coach every year and starting over every year.

  260. vegas raider Says:

It will be interesting to see if Chaz adds anything to the offense. If he can even score a couple of TD’s like he did last year, it would show how bad Murphy, DHB and JLH are.

  261. La Milicia Negra Says:

    Chris…

Terrible? LOL by what standards? because he could outplay any of our WRs…

  262. Chris in NY Says:

Fassel: 58-53 (Super Bowl XXXV appearance; 1997 NFL Coach of the Year; 3 playoff appearances in 7 seasons).

Browns owner Randy Lerner obsessively avoids having his voice or image recorded by the media.

On Tuesday, however, he blazed new ground by taking a meeting with two unhappy fans.

Lerner met with men who have called for fans to not take their seats at the November 16 Monday nighter until after the kickoff.

Mostly those that live vicariously through the team, who now just can’t quite visualize themselves throwing/running in/catching that winning SB td wearing their current JR/McFumble/DHBust jersey.

Same ones who proudly boasted, pre-camp, of visions/guarantees of glory, now reduced to backtracking, and accepting the laughter they hear is directed at them..

The Oakglen’s, the Jhill’s, the jpriests, the La-to the bay, etc..

The “It’s not Al..IT’s not..IT’S NOT” the “Russell? Not HIS fault..it’s everyone’s…his receivers have to go AND GET THOSE BAD THROWS”.

why the hell not pay a guy millions, the other bozos we’re paying, Khalif Barnes and Javon hasnt been near the field, well for a few snaps barnes ruined our game…

why not give our WRs a proper WR to show them the ropes, our WR coach clearly cant… we all say the season would have been different if schillens had been here, well Chambers is as good as schillens and furthermore able to play….

Pau Gasol appears close to return
November 4 Los Angeles Times “Pau Gasol’s hamstring now stretches all the way to Spain . . . sort of. The Lakers sent the information from Gasol’s latest medical test to his personal physician and also his parents, who are in the medical field in Spain. (His mother is a doctor and his father is a hospital administrator.) The Lakers declined to reveal the results of the MRI exam, citing the need for confirmation from Gasol’s chosen recipients, but his strained right hamstring doesn’t appear to be bad enough to keep him out much longer. He went through a “pretty good workout” after the team’s Tuesday afternoon shoot-around, Lakers Coach Phil Jackson said. Gasol will not play tonight against Houston
