Head start for Seymour?

No sign of defensive end Richard Seymour as the Raiders went through warmups and drills Thursday preceding their last practice before getting the weekend off.

As per bye week custom, players will beat a hasty retreat from the locker room following practice, some catching flights home, others remaining the area to relax.

Wide receiver Chaz Schilens and guard Robert Gallery continued to practice with the team, with the latter almost assuredly rejoining the starting line up at left guard when the Raiders host the Kansas City Chiefs Nov. 15.

More to come following practice and Tom Cable’s press briefing . . .

    Cable gave himself a C- ?

I think thats fair as a play caller.

I’d say F though if you include the distraction regarding Randy Hanson and his history of abuse

this team has showed up unprepared and confused at times. like Antonio Pierce said “playing the Raiders feels like a scrimmage”

jamarcus and the wide receivers should NOT be vacationing during the bye week. they should do as drew brees does with the saints. he and his receivers work AFTER practice to get their timing down. they practice till they get it perfectly right. clearly, this team is nowhere near approaching what the saints do and it is a reflection of their practice habits. they might be working hard, but they aren’t working hard enough nor efficiently.

U are wrong bro, Seymour plays with half heart, A game is being dominate every week, not when you feel like there is a good match up (meaning a weak OL), Seymour is having the Moss syndrome. The good thing is that he is still in his first year as a Raider, if we keep sucking, you will see his C game every week, so far I see a B effort.

It’s obvious every single Cable comment has one intent..to get Al to consider that MAYBE next week things will get on track, and to not fire him.

As I recall Cable seems to have only once stated things looked like crap..and that was AFTER A GAME, and blamed the bad showing on the previous Friday’s practice.

The man has no spine. No owner wants a spineless guy running the team.
Add onto that his massive amount of new baggage that would overload a Boeing 757, Cable is toast in the NFL, in my opinion.

While Al loves the bargain basement fee Cable expects as HC, the negative PR that’s mounting says everything about Cable is a disaster.

Of course, it’s Al. He’ll cut off his nose to spite his face, just to not do what is expected.

The general opinion seems to be that Cable probably couldn’t provide a schedule because he was waiting for it to be authorized or dictated by Davis.”
    Monte Poole

For all those who are so blinded into blaming Cable, here is a reality check on who is running the show, AL Davis, period. Players know that, Cable knows that, and the media knows that, how come some of you are so freaking blind to understand who is running the show? National Organization for Women wants Cable fired
Posted by Mike Florio on November 5, 2009 3:17 PM ET
As the Raiders and the NFL embark on the inherently delicate process of determining the best course of action in the wake of allegations of domestic violence against coach Tom Cable, the National Organization for Women has chimed in.

“Tom Cable’s history of violence against women raises a question: why is he still the head coach of an NFL team?” Terry O’Neill, the President of NOW, told USA Today. “Mr. Cable admits having battered his first wife, and he stands accused of battering two other intimate partners as well. As a survivor of domestic violence, I know that women do not make such accusations lightly. Indeed, women have much more to lose than to gain by coming forward to tell their stories.

“The Oakland Raiders, properly, say they are undergoing a ‘serious evaluation’ of these recent allegations. At the very least he should be suspended during this process. . . . A man who has admitted battering his wife has no business being a role model for all of us who would like to be able to look up to the head coach of an NFL football team.”

Though the problem of domestic violence is very real and should not be minimized, the fact that the incident to which Cable has admitted occurred more than two decades ago gives us some concern. .

So the NFL faces a difficult dilemma in this case. Given that Cable has struggled as a head coach and in light of the fact that defensive assistant Randy Hanson emerged from an August meeting with a broken jaw, it makes sense for the Raiders to sever ties with Cable in light of the totality of the circumstances.

A far thornier dilemma will arise if/when an NFL head coach with no history of assault allegations and a solid won-loss record faces outdated but meritorious claims of domestic violence. Cable surely isn’t the only NFL head coach who ever has snapped under the stress of a job premised in large part on physicality. Indeed, we’re surprised in hindsight that similar claims haven’t previously been made against other NFL head coaches.

Now that multiple women have gone on the record regarding Cable, we wonder whether any of the former wives and girlfriends of other NFL coaches will do the same.

Chuckie was no yes sir man DMAC. If AL wanted something, he would notify Allen who then tells Chuckie, do you Chuckie would listen? he did what he thought will bring a W. As long as Chuckie was winning AL couldn’t mingle with the team. For God Sake, Cable cant even provide a schedule, Gruden ran the show in my opinion.

  • TrueRaider

According to Jerry who knows more than you and me, AL only controlled the draft as Gruden decided who plays and who to sign in free agency. He didnt want Jeff George, he went with Gannon. Do you think Cable can go to AL and say I wanna go with Grad or Frye? AL will pimp slap him right away.

  • RaiderfanNY

In 36 years as a fan, I’ve never been so down on the team. I wish they could just end the season and start getting ready for next year — with a real GM and a new coach.

I don’t want to watch any more blowouts.

No more JaMarcus fumbles, false starts on crummy right tackles, amateurish pass patterns by rookie receivers, missed tackles, blown coverages, off-the-field scandals, shots of Al Davis grimacing in his private box, stupid attacks on the media from Davis’ lackeys, jokes about the Raiders in the national media, all of it.

The Raiders need to become part of the NFL again.

    No more blowouts.

    Davis must go.

  • DMAC

    EXACTLY!
So the blame should be on Cable. Why doesn’t Cable NOT listen to Al and do his own thing? Maybe because he shouldn’t be a NFL head coach.

Gruden did NOT run the team. He was wise enough to rely on vets like Gannon, Rice, Brown ect. to run the show.

The down side of running a George Allen style plan the way Gruden did was a massive collapse after mortgaging the future for vets with an expiration date.

    Look at the Bucs…

    TrueRaider,

Didn’t Gruden once admit that when crazy Al would come up with some moronic suggestion to pacify Al, Gruden would have some low level grunt on the staff cut up some tape showing why the moronic suggestion would not work in modern day football and that usually kept Al off his back.

Think Cable has the guts or the brains to do something like that? No fukin way.
