He was given a big time contract he didn't earn, that is gonna lead to motivational issues throughout a young qb's career. The fact of the matter is that he has the ability, but when it all comes down to it, it is Tom Cable's job to keep his quarterback motivated to work hard. As coach it would be Cable's responsibility to see that Russell wants to show up to practice early and stay late. Cable: His legal issues aside, Cable is not a good fit for the Raiders period. A coaches job when you're on the Raiders staff and only have limited decision making power if any is to keep your players inspired, well practiced, and motivated. This whole media frenzy is going to leave Cable with an intimidation over motivation persona which will in turn lead to more losses for the Raiders. The fact of the matter is it was Cable's job to turn Russell into a leader, he was coming off a pretty good last few games last season and Tom Cable refuses to call to his strengths. Side note, I think Louis Murphy might have been better than DHB in college and so far he definitely is better in the NFL, but you can't blame Russell until the offensive line starts blocking, the runners start running, and the receivers start catching all the close passes.
