You said Gruden didn’t have to win with the Vertical offense, and therefore didn’t have to use the Davis Way. My point was that Gruden did have to use the roster in place. He went 8-8 and got enough pull to sign Gannon. They went 8-8 AGAIN, but had a watershed victory to close the season.

Hence, he won with the Davis Way (I doubt very much the defense was a Gruden thing).

He was then able to sign the players he wanted, or at least get rid of those he didn’t.
