Why Raiders kept up the pressure
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, November 24th, 2009 at 7:38 pm in Oakland Raiders.
News, notes and quotes Tuesday as the Raiders on a short week prepared for a Thanksgiving Day game in Dallas:
– The Raiders sent pressure Carson Palmer’s way several times early on against Cincinnati and wound up down 14-0. Yet throughout the final two and a half quarters they continued to confound the Bengals with pressure and even got key sacks from Tyvon Branch and Stanford Routt.
“On a couple of those plays we were right at the ball but didn’t make a play on the ball,” defensive coordinator John Marshall said. “As long as the coverage is right and it doesn’t break down then we’ll have a chance. We’ll start making plays, or get to the quarterback.”
– According to Raiders.com, Branch has been named the club’s recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award.
– Among the congratulatory calls or texts Bruce Gradkowski received following the Bengals game were from Jon Gruden, his first NFL coach in Tampa Bay, and Jeff Garcia, a close friend he considers his mentor. Fear not, Gradkowski is only 25, but know show to play the media game. If Gruden or Garcia said anything incendiary regarding the Raiders, he’ll never tell.
“I talk to Jeff every week, and coach Gruden sent me a text,” Gradkowski said. “I told him he was doing a good job on Monday Night Football. It’s god to know those guys are watching and keeping an eye out, and I’m just excited to be out here and be able to play.”
As for replacing Garcia after Garcia made it clear he wanted out, Gradkowski said, “It’s crazy how things work out and that’s the nature of this business. Everything happens for a reason. I truly believe that, and I just take it as it comes.”
– Gradkowski’s father still works at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette _ where he worked at one time with the father of Dan Marino.
“I actually didn’t get to meet Dan Marino until after my rookie season, and it was a neat thing,” Gradkowski said.
– Rather than refute the commonly held belief that the Raiders have an inability handle success, Cable said the only way to change the perception is to win two in a row.
“This league is about consistency,” Cable said. “It’s a player or a team being able to perform consistently, and that’s really what we’re shooting for. I think for us to get where we want to be, that’s the real last piece here. And the only way to do it is to do it.”
After the Raiders beat the Eagles and before a 38-0 loss to the Jets, Cable rebuked the notion _ most recently proffered by Showtime commentator and ex-Raider Warren Sapp _ that the Raiders were at their worst after a win.
Punter Shane Lechler, asked about it Tuesday, looked at the results and sided with Sapp.
“I agree. Especially over the last six years, you win one, and the way it’s approached the next week . . . and it’s not about the staff, it’s in here,” Lechler said. “Things aren’t handle the right way. Guys become real cool . . . I hate to say it, but after the Philadelphia, people read press clippings. It was one game.”
– With Jon Alston ruled out with concussion symptoms and Isaiah Ekejiuba not practicing with an ankle injury, the Raider would be without two key special teams players and the possibility exists that Slade Norris could be activated. If the Raiders deem Alston’s condition seriously enough, he could be headed for injured reserve.
That would mean two key special teams veterans would be replaced by two players fresh off the practice squad _ David Nixon and Norris.
Nixon was promoted the day before the Bengals game after having a solid training camp as an undrafted free agent out of Brigham Young and being signed to the practice squad.
“I knew Jon Alston wasn’t feeling well throughout the week, but I had no inkling,” Nixon said. “I got the call, came in, signed the contract, met with (John Fassel), went over the scheme, and not only was I on the roster, I was active and was going to play.”
Nixon was on two of the four special teams and played on all of them once Ekejiuba left with an ankle injury.
– Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin is a symbol of hope for special teams players. He did little else for the better part of two years for Dallas and has exploded on to the scene this season with 35 receptions for 679 yards and seven touchdowns. That’s only five less catches than all the Raiders wide receivers combined, more yards, and five more touchdowns.
– Here’s how Charles Woodson characterized his stay with the Raiders on the Jim Rome Show recently:
“It’s always been kind of wild and crazy. But when I came in, I think it was a little better under Gruden and general manager Bruce Allen. They had pretty good control on things. And you know, we had some good players, so regardless of how wild and crazy it was, we had some players out there that could just flat out get it done. So we played through a lot of the negative stuff. Now, that’s not the case. Now they have some good players, but it’s nowhere near the talent we had when we were winning.”
As usual, Woodson effectively cuts to the heart of the matter. The Raiders “talent” has not been all its been made out to be over the last six years.
And as usual, Woodson leaves out the fact that he didn’t exactly dedicate himself to the cause once the ship started sinking. Played his heart out on Sundays, but not a real grinder during the week, either in practice or in preparation.

We lack talent and coaches, and we need to draft Linemen.

If we r gonna beat the Cowboys it will be now. They r not playing well and they got people playing hurt. We need this game! We beat Dallas we go to Steeler town 2-0 ready! GO RAIDERS! THAT KOOL – AID IS THE $H!T!
November 24th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
I’m happy we won, and I will always support the Raiders, but I’m starting to lose Hope! I always think this year will be diff, but the results are the same. I’m Crazy! I don’t think that will be the case next season, unless we hire a great HC, and I don’t see that happening!
I like some of the talent that we have, but we need more talent and better coaching.
November 24th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
JR has potential and so does DMC, but I’m not sure about DHB. Miller is great, and Bush can be great too. Chaz was a 7th RD pick, and he is doing very well.
What we lack on Offense is a Good Oline, better play calling, and a HC who can bring the best out of his players like Fisher & VY!
November 24th, 2009 at 8:33 pm
VY had the same issues JR is having now ( according to what I heard during the game), and now he is doing much better in terms of work ethic and that shows in his improvement on the field. The Titans have a good team, but I don’t think they have much better talent than we do. What they have is a better coaching staff!
November 24th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
dhb can be a good receiver. he has great speed AND size. mcfadden will be our #1 rb for years. he looked good on his runs sunday and runs hard.
November 24th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
They should shut down Alston for the rest of the year. There’s no sense in risking his brain to pick up a couple extra wins now.
Blue Jays Aaron Hill suffered a concussion a year ago and kept trying to work through it. He finally went left the team, went home and recovered. This year he had a great season.
The rest should do Alston good.
Let’s see what Slade Norris can do.

My brother and father are Cowboys fans. I’ll be with them on Thanksgiving Day. They think the Raiders will win haha. I won’t bet on it. Based on Raider history and how poor the Cowboys have played lately, the likely score will be 38-7 Cowboys but we’ll see. We can only hope the Raiders win.
November 24th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
Been a long time since the author of these articles didn’t bother to take some cheap shot low jab at my team.
I know it’s easy right now Jerry, but it’s pretty frickin tired!
Go Raiders!
November 24th, 2009 at 9:29 pm
raiders will come out with a win on this one.
bet on it, it may be a barely win game but a win.

Who causes it and how???

I wonder if Al will be making the trip to Big D?
He and Jerry Jones are old friends who have done some deals in the past.
If Al doesn’t make the trip, then his health is on the down side for sure.
Anyone mention that Bills’ owner Ralph Wilson said he will spend whatever it takes to bring an A-list coach to Buffalo?
Al and Ralph go back to the AFL days, so that may spur Al to spend the money on an A-list coach as well.
November 24th, 2009 at 9:38 pm
should be a good game thurs. now that jabustus is benched. russell is the most inaccurate passer that I can remember ever seeing as a starter on an nfl team. it would be great for the raiders to play a competitive game thursday win or lose.
November 24th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
will al davis FINALLY accept reality after 7 bad seasons and hire a real coach and GM and give them power? thats the biggest question.
November 24th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
Man…the New Jersey Nets are playing basketball like I play. Maybe I should try out…I might actually have a chance. Haha.
November 24th, 2009 at 9:53 pm
manassamauler,
I think we all know Al will take the team with him to his death bed. But I still hold out that one ounce of hope that he will see the light.
If only a Gruden or a Cowher were walking the sidelines, and Cable was back giving pep talks to the back-up center.
(Manassamauler?? I forget who’s nickname that was. Sonny Liston?)
November 24th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
Since Jerry Jones and Al Davis are friends, maybe Al can ask Jerry to merge their teams together and give all the power to Jerry. We could do half and half uniforms with a star on one side of the helmet and the Raider on the other. Maybe they can change the name to the Cowders or the RaidBoys or something? I mean…it would help us in being competitive. Then we merge the rosters and get the best 53 man roster.
QB – Tony Romo
RB – Marion Barber, Felix Jones, Michael Bush, McFadden
FB – ?
WR – Roy Williams, Patrick Crayton, Miles Austin and Javon Walker? Haha.
TE – Jason Witten and Zach Miller
The Dallas Cowboys offensive line.
DL – Richard Seymour, Jay Ratliff, Marcus Spears, Ogor Olshansky, Greg Ellis
LB – Thomas Howard, Anthony Spencer, Keith Brooking, Kirk Morrison and Demarcus Ware
CB – Nnamdi Asomugha, Terence Newman, Mike Jenkins, Chris Johnson
SS – Tyvon Branch
FS – Ken Hamlin
P – Lechler
K – Nick Folk?
Janikowski for Kickoffs?
Look…a competitive team.
November 24th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
Murphy said he and his receiver mates jelled with Gradkowski quickly, even though they were playing a full game together for the first time this season.
“Everything started clicking toward the end of the game,” Murphy said. “Usually, it’s the opposite. It was great just to get that chemistry going.”
………..
wow. Another not so subtle shot at Russell.
November 24th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
Forgot to include Chaz Schilens to the WR position.
November 24th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
Oaklas RaidBoys?
Oaklas CowDers?
Dalland RaidBoys?
Dalland Cowders?
November 24th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
24,
without counting, ther’s probably 2 cowboys for every Raider on your list.
November 24th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
Forgive me…7 losing seasons has put me in the crazy house I guess.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:00 pm
NorthernD – Well…It would make sense to take the majority of the players from the team with the best record right? Considering the Raiders players have had 7 losing seasons, I’m not sure you’d want to keep most of them right?
November 24th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
Chris Johnson is a Beast! Over 1200 yards and act 6.2 YPC in 10 games. He also has 30 rec for 250 yards. Has had more yards and production than the entire Raiders offense!
Is Chris Johnson that much better than DMC, or is it coaching and Oline?!
November 24th, 2009 at 10:14 pm
some of you guys are so immature with the names for jamarcus man grow up

it was jack dempsy, heavyweight champ in the 20s. awesome fighter. i always want the raiders to win but hopefully the 7 consecutive blackouts and bad seasons will make davis see the light. the raiders will be in oakland for at least 5 more years, so I’ll go out on a limb that AD does wake up and hires a GM and a repectable head coach this offseason. he can’t keep cable at this point. but i just can’t picture AD landing a big name coach, UNLESS he gives him in writing FULL CONTROL over the football operations. I think al is looking at the stanford coach harbaugh or maybe weiss at ND.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
Now I remember, Jack Dempsey. (Too many Concussions, me that is)
The one thing that would stop Al from giving over total control is that the team would no longer be shaped in the Al Davis mould. Cowher, or another big name coach would want to build the team in his own image.
I think that building the team the way Al wants it, is just as important as winning.
Having the biggest fastest players, stretching the field, vertical game, man-to-man defence. Those are Raider staples.
So any coach that comes in would at least have to play along and say that’s what he was going to do. I think Gruden probably fed him a line or two. A few little white lies to get his foot in the door.
November 24th, 2009 at 10:51 pm

Most of your list does deserve to cowboys.
The Raiders and cowboys used to scrimmage against each other. The Raiders spotted a back-up FB on the cowboys and they acquired him. Turned out be Todd Cristensen. Not a bad little deal.
I wonder if they have any more hidden gems on their roster. I think they missed out on Austin Miles. That cat is now out of the bag.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:23 pm
So is Lechler ready to start peppering that scoreboard in Dallas or what? We get the lead early and it’s his task to hit the scoreboard 100 straight times and burn out the clock. 2 in a row, here we come!
November 24th, 2009 at 11:34 pm
I read that if he hits the scoreboard, it’s a dead ball, and they have to do it again.
They should make it a free ball if they hit the scoreboard. That would make it way more interesting.
Or have bumpers like a pinball machine that gives the team points.
The NFL is always trying to increase offence, why not do that?
November 25th, 2009 at 12:50 am

November 25th, 2009 at 2:43 am
We have played 3 good games this year.
1) First game vs. SD
2) Philly
3) Cincy
In all 3 of these games our Defense was the key, with 2 of the games featuring an effective blitz package.
Now that Grad (a temporary solution) is at the helm, we should focus on what we should have been doing all year. RUNNING THE BALL, MINIMIZING TURNOVERS and COMPLETING HIGH PERCENTAGE PASSES, in essence, Kiffin’s offense.
It’s a shame we had a QB that was not prepared all year trying to get vertical and failing, causing us to lose repeatedly.
JaMarcus is the answer in the long run, but he has to sit until he matures. We should still try to win NOW.
Stupid!!!
November 25th, 2009 at 2:45 am
In summary, the crux in the measage above is….go ball control and put defensive heat on the opposition’s offense.
Both of these philosophies are against Al’s big plan. He has to take the heat.

Some of you just won’t get over it with Jamarcus. The guy sucks. Period. He is not another Vince Young. Vince Young is a dedicated athlete, not a fat, lazy, Big Mac eating, fur coat sporting POS.
I know Gradkowski is not the answer, but taking Jamarcus out is ADDITION BY SUBTRACTION. Let us all hope that Jamarcus is no longer the future of this franchise. I really hope sanity is returning in some form to this club.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:35 am

Analysis #2:
Heyward Bey is simply cannot play wide receiver at this level…
since catching the ball is essential in establishing any kind of credibility as a deep threat… well… we all can see that he can’t catch…
i think it is clearly a lack of talent…
he practices… he works at it… he’s just not good at it…
catching the ball is such a basic skill… that if you do not have it coming into this level… well… it’s a skill you will probably never have…
my attitude toward receivers is that they are a dime a dozen… grab a half dozen unsigned WRs after the draft every year… look them over and see if any of them can play… you’re better off…
wide receiver is one of those rare positions that players coming from anywhere can probably make it at the next level if they can run routes and catch the ball… look at the smaller colleges and Div. 2 & 3 players…

This sounds like something i would enjoy watching.
Just like i enjoyed watching the hit on Jacobs, i would like to hear from jacobs how it felt though lol.
If LeBron James fancies himself an NFL receiver, then consider Mike Mitchell among the unimpressed.
Paul Gutierrez of the Sacramento Bee caught up with Mitchell, who incidentally is getting some reps in at cornerback instead of safety (Mitchell that is, not Gutierrez. I highly doubt Paul G is suited for bump and run coverage). The former Ohio Bobcat is in the Jeremy Shockey camp when it comes to evaluating the prospects of King James in the NFL.
“Yeah, that (James) could just drop in and do it, it really is (insulting) but, you know, basketball players, they do that,” Mitchell said with a smile.
“Like I said,” Mitchell added, “he’s a great athlete, but I can’t just go and be the best shooter in the NBA so I don’t think he’s going to be able to come in here and, I mean, he can maybe be on the practice squad, but I don’t think he’s going to be an elite receiver in the league his first year.”
Mitchell has played sparingly in his rookie season. He missed most of training camp and every preseason game with a hamstring injury. Since then, he’s been involved in special teams and occasional situational play.
Still, Mitchell has made his presence felt on the field.
During the embarrassing loss to the Giants, Mitchell put a nasty hit on Brandon Jacobs that stopped the 260-pound back dead in his tracks on the goal line. He’s also made some nice open field tackles and has proven to be more of an asset in pass coverage than was anticipated.
Perhaps he’ll see more action as a corner, though even that seems unlikely given the improved play of Stanford Routt.
Here’s a little piece of advice for LeBron: if Mitchell is in the room, have your head on a swivel. Just like Jordan Crawford was eager to make a name for himself by dunking on the King, Mitchell would be equally excited to get LeBron in his sights on a crossing route.
No doubt #34 is walking around with a large chip on his shoulder ever since his selection in the ’09 draft was turned into fodder for Raider Haters everywhere. Mitchell has yet to do much to silence the laughter but he’s certainly eager to prove he’s no joke.

he reminds me of a cartoon character who sees he is being pursued and then jumps high in the air and starts running… still in the air… going nowhere…
trips on a blade of grass… doesn’t run with power because he doesn’t dig… injury prone…
maybe move him to wideout… he can take Heyward-Bey’s place…

now think about how different things would be right now… if:
we had taken the best “O” linemen available at that spot?
or if we has drafted for front 7 on defense???
or if we simply had some sense and drafted for need… knowing that everything starts up front…

I hope everybody is ready for the love fest Simms and Gumble are going to have for Bruce. As my boy does his thing, and has us in the game in the second half, Simms is going to go on and on, about his “heady” play, his “grit”, his “good decision-making”, and the “chance of pace” it is for the offense.
MR’s head might explode.
November 25th, 2009 at 6:32 am
Al Davis’ poor drafting is the main reason we suck. We could have Clady, Crabtree, Calvin Johnson, etc.. instead of McFadden, JaMarcus, and DHB. All of our problems go back to Davis’ poor drafting.

My Danish girlfriend has learned to love football and we watch it on TV every Sunday.
When players make great plays, she asks, “who was that?” and I always end up having to explain to her..”oh that’s a guy the Raiders could have drafted instead of DBH, McFadden and JaMarcus”…..it STINKS!
November 25th, 2009 at 6:35 am
I’ve stopped doing that “we could have had” stuff….it’ll drive you nuts if you don’t watch out.
November 25th, 2009 at 6:36 am
Hey welcome back Pete!!
My point has always been it isn’t the position that we are drafting is the issue, it is the players.
Who would have helped our offense more this year, Eugene Monroe (who has been in and out of the Jags lineup) or Percy Harvin.
No one would care that we drafted a RB last year if his name was Chris Johnson, not Darren McFadden.
Our O-line is just fine, with a sorry group of RB’s we are mediocre running the ball and just held the league leaders in sack to ZERO.

November 25th, 2009 at 6:41 am
We are not the only team that screws up. They all do.
Per PFT
With the Jets losing six of seven games, it’s time for someone to take the blame.
And possibly because benching rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez could jeopardize G.M. Mike Tannenbaum’s job security, coach Rex Ryan is getting started on the other side of the ball.
Per FOX’s Jay Glazer, the Jets are benching safety Kerry Rhodes, replacing him with Eric Smith.
In April 2008, the Jets signed Rhodes to a five-year, $33.5 million contract extension, with $20 million guaranteed.
Smith is in the final year of his rookie deal, making only $535,000.

I see people on the post saying we should just keep feeding the ball to MCFadden. I don’t think so. I think he should earn it. I think whoever has the highest YPC average should get the ball….obviously they’re being most effective (and that’s BUSH). He should get the most. Use Mcfadden sparingly with swing passes, out as a WR occasionally as a change of pace. Use Bush on the majority of carries. Almost any game he’s gotten a fair number of carries he’s pretty well dominated.

Cincy came in with a very good defense and quite frankly our O-line did a great job, imo.Grads wasnt sacked 1 time.He threw 34 passes, while only completing 17,(thats 50% 4 those that dont know lol.)
And with the added feature of Grads working with Hackett B4,well all the better.
We can win these games and thats what the players are saying.I hope he does turn into Gradkowski The Great.

I chased off MR Sunday night. He tried to tell me that the reason we won was because of our ground attack.
When I told him that we threw more passes Sunday than any other game this year, and that our 24 rushes was 3rd lowest on the year. He called me a liar, a bunch of other names, and tried to say it was our RATIO of run to pass.
So I got all the stats of each game, and posted our ratio of run to pass (I have a minor in statistics) to prove how incredibly wrong he was.
Crickets. He came back after midnight when he knew he wouldn’t be challenged and didn’t even ackowledge being shown up.
November 25th, 2009 at 6:57 am
And Grads the Mediocre brings the energy and drive that’ll keep us competitive in games and let us win some. If he played (even with his 50% completion) we would’ve won 5 games so far and been 5 – 5 or 6 – 4 instead of 3 – 7 I think.

Hopefully we don’t go down 14 points early in the game this week and can get the run-pass ratio above 50/50. If we do that and pound Bush and Gradowski keeps his game solid we can win it.

Can’t we just say that the book isn’t closed on either one? If Jamarcus can one day be great, so can Bruce. What does Jamarcus do better than Grads?
Jamarcus has a rocket for an arm, but to take a golf analogy, he has no midrange game. He has a great driver and wedge game, but no 5 or 6 iron.

Man, I could use a break from this blog…I actually had a dream last night that I was driving a car on a winding road near some cliffs and Cable was the passenger and I was questioning why he doesn’t use McFadden. He said the guy cost me a game with a fumble (Denver I guess) so I asked him who won the game for him last year against KC…he said McFadden.
Then he basically told me that as long as he is the head coach of the Oakland Raiders that Lane Kiffin pick McFadden wouldn’t get more than a few touches a game and that Fargas was his best friend and despite not being that productive he would get the bulk of the carries no matter what.
I drove the car off the cliff to save the Raiders.

I don’t think the book is closed on Gradowski. I think he can build up and improve. He has completed only around 50% in his career. Not much better stats than Jamarcus in the books, but you can see the difference by a LONG SHOT on the field.
All I’m saying is he’s not our savior. He is 20x better than Jamarcus is just because of limiting mistakes, playing with heart, giving teamates hope and making key throws that move chains.
Gradowski averages 53% completion percentage with under 5 yards per pass average. BUT, with that said, he hasn’t had many reps except for his rookie year when he had his best stats. So there is definitely hope that he can build up into something….and it looks like he’s playing better this year than his last two which shows progress (rather than Russel which showed retrogression).

I just don’t get the double standard of being patient with Jamarcus, while Bruce is already who he is, like he has developed as much as he will, at 26 and less than one full season of starts.

Frye…
Completion Percentage for career:
Frye 62%
Gradowski 53%
Russell 51%
YPA (Yards per attempt)
Frye 6.1
Russell 6.0
Gradowski 4.9
QB Rating:
Frye 70.4
Russell 65.5
Gradowski 59.9
The difference…..Frye hasn’t started more than 1 game since 2006 when he had his best year (64% completion) but has been average in limited time. Russell has regressed considerably this year compared to last and it didn’t get any better.

I don’t know that the Raiders want Frye starting because they don’t want Russell’s replacemnt to play that well so they then have an excuse to put Russell back in after this stretch of tough opponents. They want Russell to come in and play against the Redskins and Browns, so they put Garbagekowski in and not Frye…

Anyone remember what happened to Frye? I remember he had a pretty solid year a few years ago for the Browns and then didn’t play any more after that.
———————————————–
In 2007, Frye played a putrid number of series against the Steelers and was benched for Derek Anderson. Traded the next week to Seattle for a 6th round pick. Was drafted in the 3rd round originally. Not really his fault as the Brown had a matador offensive line.
November 25th, 2009 at 7:54 am
raiderzmaverick,
I don’t really care which of the QBs starts this year…they are all trash at this point, but someone just said something about Garbagekowski starting next year too!
First you guys wanted to throw away the 2009 season by keeping Cable and now you want to sacrifice the 2010 season by having Bruce Garbagekowski as our starting QB?
Jeezus, there has to be a better option in the offseason! McNabb or Kold could be available. Pennington too if Henne grabs the Phins job.
The options are not great at this point, but something better than Garbagekowski is bound to come up this offseason.

It is SUCH A CHANGE in the demeanor and energy he brings this team compared to Russell it’s unbelievalbe. And just this along is getting the support of his teammates which will translate into progress on the field and I think more “W”s

Actually that is not a bad idea. But I doubt Al will be drafting anymore QBs for a while. He will be running back to his previous policy of signing vet QBs. Russell scared him too much to draft and attempt to develop another QB.

Jamarcus can’t throw short passes accurately. If all he ever did was spike the ball to stop the clock, he’d still have 3 or 4 interceptions.

It just shows how quickly a season can get away from you and the teams that care. Last year Titans start 10-0 with Collins and this year 0-6 made the QB change to a QB who was lost in space but turned his life around with hard work and won 4 straight If we beat SD once and beat that KC team at home this season, we had a small chance but a chance. We beat playoff teams like the Eagles and Cincy. and get destroyed at home by the jets and lose to KC.

I am like you Dell, turkey is way over rated. Our family always has Prime Rib, a tradition started by my Grandmother (RIP). There will be some turkey for others, but most of us will eat beef.
Right now the wife is at home scrambling to make sure the house is spotless, sometimes it’s good to be stuck at work.
Typically we will start dinner around 3 pm but that will be smack dab in the middle of the 3rd quarter, so we may wait until the Raiders win to eat. There are always tons of appetizers like chips and clam dip, Nuts and Bolts (this is waht my GMother used to call Chex Mix) and other munchies so we will be ok.
Here’s hoping that everyone has an excellent Thanksgiving. I will be up bright and early Friday morning to the tune of 5am to head over to Best Buy to get a good deal on another LCD HDTV. Last Black Friday I bought a $300 leather executive Raider chair for $100 so I will be on the hunt…

Hey, if he suddenly becomes some decent QB, great, but it is highly unlikely. 50% completion percentage and a couple of TDs and a couple of turnovers and 180 yards might look good right now in the wake of the Russell era, but that just isn’t going to cut it either…and he has never done much better than that in the past.
Hoping Garbagekowski is the answer is like hoping Cable is more than the 18-50 HC he is.

Hey Dogg, Go W’s!!!

Gentleman and I use that word quite loosely. I have family and friends arriving in a few hours (6 to be exact) and I must prepare the Grill. I decided to have brisket cooked with wood chips dipped in wine and plenty of sausage and wings. I must begin my adventure.
I will bring out the lap top and enjoy your comments about the Raiders in a few.
Dakota be safe. Take the hand gun and be careful. Your driving your future son to the Thanksgiving Holiday family festival.

Love the lamb idea, great choice.
Later to all and have a happy Thanksgiving.

Stay focused, stop worrying about firing Cable. Dakota got that part handled.
Tell KK I love the red roadster. I’m so jealous.

Dakota,
I’ve wanted JR to succeed just like everyone else, i’m just SICK of his lack of preparation, slacker approach, to the 1 of the 32 greatest job in Pro Sports. If he wants to squander his abilities, let him do it on the bench…

That’s what I’m talking about! The W’s beat the Mavs with only 6 players! Curry looks to be coming along too. Everything started shaping up nicely as soon as Jackson hit the exit.

Jr’s appraoch to this season has been so far from professional it’s a freakin’ insult to all of us!
Wake Up! this kid needs SERIOUS help getting his head straight…

Sounds awesome. Never used wine soaked chips before, sounds interesting. You must be using green chips because I would think that regular chips soaked in wine would burn too fast. Have you ever done this before? I need details

RaiderDogg, Dell,
whenever I’m around the clan leaves menu for any holiday up to me. Since T’day is also the matriarch’s b’day this year I decided upon a Hawaiian based mixed plate theme. Chicken, pig, fish and shrimp done in traditional recipes (Kalua Pig in a slow cooker rather than in the ground). She always loved a luau and there’ll be a foto of her being smooched by Don Ho as the centerpiece. Pineapple upside down cake decorated with mini-tiki torches for the wishing ceremony.

Hey Dogg, thanks for bringing up the ‘Improved Warriors”…Getting rid of Jack, has inspired the guys who care to become a team. It’s almost EXACTLY what the raiders looked like lst Sunday, a team free of a guy that was mentally bringing them down…i really wish it wasn’t like this, but it is….

I totally agree about his work ethic. I have been yelling about that since he left OTAs to attend that funeral for a week and a half, or his mother’s little surgery or whatever it was.
And anyone that fat clearly is not dedicated to their profession when their profession is a sport! All the kid has to do is work out and prep for GAMES for god’s sake!
Those were red flags to me and almost everyone said shut up Dakota, quit being negative, Russell will be just fine etc.
Well, that wasn’t the case. I still think there are other factors that contribute to Russell’s problems, including the clown HC, so I am not giving up on the kid yet either…
Get the kid a coach that can motivate and teach him…this staff clearly cannot do it. I know that most of the responsibility lies at Russell’s feet, but I truly believe that if we had a coach Russell believed in or feared he would be a much better QB.

Brisket take a good long time like 10 hrs depending. But that sounds real good also…Brisket slow cooked is what I make my Mexican Burritos out of …showed 2 me bye my friends MOM!!!

What time did you say dinner will be ready M Lonetree???
November 25th, 2009 at 10:08 am
Dakota, i agree about the lack of direction the coaching staff has imparted on him, the kid needs a mentor/role model, someone, to help him go forward as a Professional. If that person exists, i hope we can find him and bring him in to help…
November 25th, 2009 at 10:08 am
Imagine the possibilities with Grads on play-action if Cable establishes a ground game. A reasonably accurate QB and a good ground game would be something to watch.

Let Bush run.

I have so many live recordings of so many bands, including Mule and ZZ Top. You will have to let me know anytime that you are looking for something, anything. Chances are I have it and it would be my pleasure to hook up a buddy around the holidays. Let me know.
So when are we having some of your burrito’s? Sounds so good right now.

As I recall, Shanahan’s contract with Bowlen specifically stated that if approached for for a coaching job, he must not refuse to interview or his contract and the $7 mil a year would be voided. Not sure if that also included a GM position.
