Cable mum on returners, RB
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 at 1:49 pm in Oakland Raiders.
News and notes following the Raiders pracitce Wednesday before they departed for Dallas:
– There’s a possibility of roster movement before Thursday. Coach Tom Cable would not commit to Jonathan Holland and Johnnie Lee Higgins as his specialists for kickoff returns and punt returns.
“Could be,” Cable said. “Not going to disclose that now.
Nor would he disclose his choice for starting running back, although with the “hot hand” philosophy, it doesn’t matter much. Asked if his starter would be Darren McFadden, Cable said he was going to give it some thought before game time.
Cable liked the way McFadden bulled for an extra few yards on one carry against Cincinnati, and Michael Bush’s fumble could have conceivably put him at the back of the line. Go ahead and assume Justin Fargas will get his 10 carries or more.
– Defensive ends Greg Ellis and Richard Seymour are expected to start. Chaz Schilens and Darrius Heyward-Bey will be the starting wide receivers. Listed as out are WR-KR Nick Miller and LB Jon Alston, both of whom did not practice. LB Isaiah Ekejiuba (ankle) is didn’t practice and is doubtful. Ellis (knee-shoulder) and Seymour (back) practiced in full and are probable. WR Javon Walker (hamstring) was limited and is questionable.
There was no update regarding the “residual” concussion symptoms suffered by Alston. Cable said the Raiders are going through proper protocol.

Again what does Cables Mom have 2 do with this =)
November 25th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
What????
D’OH!!!
November 25th, 2009 at 1:58 pm
Does this mean we’ll see DHB or DMac returning kicks…something’s got to give.
Holland and JLH look way too tentative w/ the ball in their hands. If either of them have a good return it’ll be their first this season.
November 25th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
You want to know why the drafting of Mike Mitchell is great? It made Tyvon Branch better and we’re benefitting from it. What I can’t understand is why they haven’t tried Mitchell more often at FS when he was interchangeable in college. Huff has played pretty well, don’t get me wrong but don’t keep Mitchell at SS exclusively when he could be knockin heads.
November 25th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
Does anyone really want to see DHB trying to catch the kickoff?? Please…McFadden would get hurt or fumble or both. I admit JLH needs to be less tentative and more instinctful, and holland needs to be more powerful in his runs, but what are the other options. Cant believe we saved a spot all year for N. Miller for him to be still sidelined…what gives there?? Last time I checked he was a rookie, nobody ever heard of, why waste a spot all year on an unproven commodity? I know they are attempting to go with their guys, but at whose exspence (sp)?? I’ll tell you , the FANS. Only game I missed this year was NY Jets – and happy to have been where I was instead. I think the Raiders are a few accountable players (already on the roster) from being a formidable TEAM. Tons a work to do on the offense, but there is some daylight!!Hopefully Al won’t cut bait this offseason to do it his way all over again.

The more they expect us to lose, the better chance we have.

Let Mcfadden return kicks and punts. Higgins is still hesitant after the big hit he took and Jonathon Holland might as well hope for a touchback everytime. Mcfadden might break one and let’s hope he can hold on to the damn ball. It’s not like having Branch on return duties who should save all his energy for d. Mcfadden isn’t on the field the whole time on O, let’s go for broke, what do we got to lose?
November 25th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
This is my opinion so everything I say can be either agreed or disagreed on. I really like this week match up, we catching Dallas on short bad week. We getting healthy while they are injured in their main positions, TE Witten didn’t practice and QB Tony Homo will play but he is not 100%. Dallas defensive line will be pose problems to Satele and Henderson but that is in passing situations, their D line gives up big yards on the ground. We need to run like crazy, smash mouth football and we would have a chance to win. Dallas pass coverage is week, I think Newman was yelling at his coach last week, Hamlin is weak, I only like Jenkins and he should cover DHB so Schillens can run wild. Miller should be unstoppable. We need to stop Marion Barber and Felix Jones, they would test our DL and LB, we stop the run we win. Simply, we just need to stop the run, control the clock and the line of scrimmage.
November 25th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
Unless DMAC plays a bigger role in the offense, I’d like to see him return kicks. Can’t do any worse, and he’s only getting 5-7 touches. Got to get him involved somehow.

Javon Walker has the best job on the planet. I saw him on the sidelines during the Bengals game and he was in street clothes. Perfectly healthy and getting paid millions for doing nothing.

Excuse me, send them to Al, or whoever is doing the game plan.

I’ve got a good feeling. In terms of cycles it seems like the Raiders are in a good place and the Cowboys are in a bad place. I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Raiders win this one big.

November 25th, 2009 at 2:55 pm
I think Cable needs to stress discipline BIG time this week. You know we’re going to see some flags early and need to play within ourselves, i’m hoping to see the D create some turnovers and hopefully take one to the house, it’s been a long time…
November 25th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
What must Murphy think when he sees DHB starting? It’s a shame because that one decision completely destroys the company line that they’re putting the players who give them the best chance to win on the field. Bad for morale, IMO. Go ahead and play DHB all game if you must, but give Murphy the start.
Maybe my dropping all of this wisdom will land me a minor coaching position with the team and I’ll be able to effect some change.

Exactly. Now people should think about that when they’re blaming players for just showing up and getting paid.
November 25th, 2009 at 3:06 pm
Not to defend the move, but, by having Murphy coming in ont he 3 wr sets, he should see nickel back coverage, which we should be able to exploit.

Rumors involving the Jets being interested in Cowher. My goodness. The Jets are worse than the Raiders.

November 25th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
If Cowher goes to the Nets, can we have Rex CRyan?
November 25th, 2009 at 3:18 pm
Plunkethead,
You going to thank Jon Gruden for one of those wins in Dallas? I’ll await. We sure didn’t win by “doing whateva we waaanted, and ataaaaacking”. An efficient west coast offense, with a multiple scheme defense under Willie Shaw. Had Bugel, Davis’s guy, still been head coach in ‘98? Cowboys would have then beaten every single team in the league at home.
November 25th, 2009 at 3:19 pm
I love the Raiders and I certainly hope they win but I’m going to take on the realist point of view based on our past 7 seasons and our knack for getting destroyed after a win and say the Cowboys will win 38-7. Just because everybody has a “good feeling”, just as they do every week, doesn’t mean we’re going to win. I’m sorry to be a pessimist but until the Raiders can actually show up on a consistent basis, I can’t have a good feeling. The Raiders have been terrible in Primetime games and the Cowboys have struggled the last 2 weeks which means they’re bound to rebound and this is the perfect game on short rest and during their annual Thanksgiving game in which it will be their last.
Unless Gradkowski plays like a Pro Bowler on Thursday and DHB starts catching passes and our offensive line keeps Ware off of our QB and our special teams is perfect and our defense can stop Felix Jones and Marion Barber. I just don’t see it happening.

24, good point, about the Raiders’ track record of losing games following a big win. It’s part of the post Ron Wolf Raider tradition. The Raiders are still celebrating the win over the Bengals. They haven’t even started practicing for Dallas yet. The game is tomorrow.

Nick Miller played well in the pre-season. He must have an abundant amount of perceived upside in order to be injured this long and kept on the roster instead of being placed on IR. I hope we see him soon.
As far as a punt/kickoff returner goes, I vote for DMac. He’s not doing all that much as a RB so this task is another way of getting him the ball in the open to see if he can make something happen. I still feel he should be a WR working the slot on crossing patterns against LB’s & safeties.
November 25th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
I dont drink and I give Gruden lots of credit. I am not a Gruden hater. I just think he left us in crappy shape just like he decimated the Bucs for short term results.
I also am not that impressed with Holmgren for the same reason.
Parcells is the only sure thing out there.
November 25th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
I think Oakglenn hung it up for this season, Kell. But no doubt, Plunkethead is one of the former Davis shills here who’s shape shifted to a different moniker after getting owned repeatedly under an old one.

Look at the Houston Boots. Thney have been beefing up the lines for some time now, every draft they pass on playmakers for Line help.
They cant get above 8-8
Look at the Jets
The Bengals
Browns
Lions
Cowboys have not won a playoff game in over ten years.
Dan Snyder had tried everything fro coaches to name players and he cant do it.
Most teams that are doing good now spent decades playing 500 ball and less.

Dumbest thing every said in here, and the biggest lie, to boot! There is nothing you want to change about this team? Nothing? Every single position, every single slot in the coaching staff, perfect, and beyond reproach? You accept it as it is? Did you accept the Raiders as they were when Russell was in the starting lineup? How about when Kiffin was head coach? No changes? Nothing? Every single decision made by Kiffin was the right decision because he was a Raider? What about Gruden? Did you accept the team then for what it was? Today you’re saying Gruden left us with a mess. But then, THEN, you accepted it as it was? You’ve never wanted to change anything about the Raiders? BULLS’T!!!! You are the biggest liar who has ever had the gall to leave a comment here.
The truth is, you accept Al as he is, and Al only. And accepting someone as they are is an ENDORSEMENT, no matter how you cut it. Because Al Davis CAN leave the Raiders. He’s not being held at gunpoint to run the team. He’s choosing to run it. And since you “accept” his poor management of the team, “as it is”, when he has the option of walking away from it and letting someone who understands today’s NFL run the team, and spend your entire days in here trying to persuade others to accept Al’s poor leadership “as it is”, then you are in fact SHILLING for Al Davis.

24, if you’re addressing me, what I was talking about is Plunktthead saying he accept the Raiders “as is”. The Raiders don’t exist as is. They are are entity regulated by choice. Al Davis chooses every single employee here, and Al Davis can walk away from the game any time he wants to. The Raiders are not granite rock or an ocean. There is no way you can accept the Raiders as they are without clearly endorsing their leadership. Saying “I accept the Raiders as is” is just a passive, cowardly way of saying, “Al’s the best! You just wait, he’s going to pull it together!”. I have more respect for the latter homers than I do for the shifty worms like Plunktthead who try to come off as pragmatic, yet have every intention of persuading people to worship Al Davis as much as they do.

November 25th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
MR – I hear ya. I agree with you. How can anybody be happy with the current state of the Raiders? If a Head Coach was this bad over a 7 year period, he would be gone by now. Why is Al Davis still here? Everyone else is a scapegoat to Al’s madness.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
KoolKell – My Father is from San Antonio, TX and my family still lives there but I’ve never met any of them. My brother grew up around my dad in the bay area so he took on the Cowboys as his team whereas I grew up apart from my dad so I followed the Raiders after my cousin. We have become fans of each other’s teams and that has helped us survive. We are not enemies and we don’t even talk crap. We obviously want our respective teams to win but we’re more understanding if our team doesn’t win.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:26 pm
With people like Plunketthead, It’s not about being happy. It’s about loyalty to Al Davis.
“accept the Raiders as is” translates to “bow down to your lord Al Davis”.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:27 pm
We need term limits on senawhores and congress critters
Pres should be ONE 6 year term.
That gives him time to enact his policys and he does not have to spend 25%? of his time in office trying to get reelected.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
24-My family from Mexia TX near Waco. I’d love to call them and talk shyt tomorrow.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
We need term limits with NFL owners, Plunkethead. They can call it the “Davis rule”.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
I think its funny how Universal Health Care works perfectly in our government jobs and in the Military but everyone outside of that is against it. It seems to work just fine within those establishments. Everyone thinks that being a little bit socialist is going to push us towards communism.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:30 pm
plunkethead, agree with you on the single 6 year term for presidents, btw. Excellent idea. Why can’t you be as smart when it comes to the Raiders? If you have the ideology to wish for a change in presidential term limits, then why can’t you wish for Al Davis to leave the Raiders? BECAUSE YOU DON’T WANT HIM TO. You believe he’ll turn it around. You’re a Davis worshiper, and you just proved it. If you were really about accepting things “as is”, Raiders or otherwise, you wouldn’t be wishing for a change in presidential term limits. you’d accept it as is. So we know how you address things you really do believe should be changed.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
If we blitz and don’t throw the ball to DHB, we will have a chance to win.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
We need someone who can stab Al Davis in the back and take the team the same way he did it to Wayne Valley.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
The crazy part about DHB is…he could turn around and be a Pro Bowler next year. Strange sh*t happens with these WR’s.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
24, not everyone is against a public health care option. Not even near everyone. In fact, most polls have shown that most people want it. The right loves to tout one single poll where most Americans said they are satisfied with their health insurance, but nobody in that poll was asked if they’d like government to help them pay for it if they needed such help. The public option is something most Americans want. Obama wouldn’t have won if they didn’t because that was part of his platform. It was on the table in last year’s election, where Obama won overwhelmingly.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
If a public health care option really scared Americans as much as Glen Beck says it does, Obama would not have won. Plain and simple.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
It’s like some kind of Pavlovian reflex.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
BTW, there’s rumors Lou Dobbs might run for president in ‘12. How awesome would that be? It would split the conservative vote in half. *4 more years, 4 more years!!
November 25th, 2009 at 4:40 pm
MR
What about the MistaBrowns of the world, so hateful?
November 25th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
MR
Thats the first funny and realistic thing I have ever heard you say.
I still say you are a shared troll down at the fishwrap.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
And I still say you are a Davis shill, Plunk. And thanks for proving it. You say you accept the Raiders as is, because, you know, there’s nothing you can do about it. Has nothing to do with you supporting Al. But you do want presidential terms changed! Can’t accept that for what it is, but you can accept Al losing year after year? Suuure. Stepped right into that one.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
Al Davis is the only person to blame for this mess. Its easier for people to blame the stupid draft picks, the clown free agents and baffoon coaches because they can be replaced.
Al Davis, and more importantly, his jacked up decision making…is here to stay AND WON’T CHANGE OR MODIFY at all.
I accept the situation. This team will have a tough time winning ever again as long as Davis manages the team as he does. That’s why I only ask they compete…because I have given up on expecting them to win.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
Kell, the MistaBrowns are a minority in this country pretending to be a majority. That’s their deal. Like I said, if most Americans felt the way MB felt, would Obama have won? The only thing Obama is doing differently from what he promised he would do is that he’s being more conservative and backing down from some of the more progressive things he wanted to do. So nobody’s jumping ship because Obama is too liberal.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
By the way….Sirius Radio asked John Madden if Gradkowski could be the answer. He said no.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
I wanted B.J Raji in the 1st round. Would have liked to see Loadholt or Brace in the 2nd round.
We drafted freekn Darius Heyward-Bey.
Another STUPID high round draft pick that sets the franchise further back than it already is.
Case in point? Louis Murphy, a real talent, has to sit because Heyward-Bey gets all that money.
BS
November 25th, 2009 at 4:51 pm
SnB, if you can wish for Al’s players and coaches to change, then you can wish for Al to change. It’s the same idealism. Same part of the brain at work. If you want Al’s players and coaches to change, or even get lost, then it means your instinct is to rid the Raiders of Al Davis, as well. But your loyalty says otherwise. Why not just admit you worship Al Davis? Because if you didn’t worship Al Davis, you wouldn’t accept ANYTHING about Al Davis, right now. Nothing. There is nothing acceptable about him. And only his worshipers try to find something to accept.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:51 pm
I AM DUMBFOUNDED FINDING A REASON WHY DHB IS STARTING. THIS CAT CAN’T CATCH A F$%#ING COLD BUTT NAKED IN A SNOWSTORM.
OTHER THAN THAT, I AM HAPPY WITH THE PERSISTENCE THE SQUAD SHOWED LAST WEEK IN PULLING OUT THE WIN, AND VERY GRATEFUL THAT JAMARSHMALLOW IS ON THE BENCH.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:51 pm
MR
You are a poor misguided soul. I pity you.
Your world revolves around internet bickering.
I make it a practice to avoid subjecting my mind to that nonsense so the last word is yours.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
Anyone who doesn’t express their wishes for Al Davis to leave football operations is a Davis worshiper. Rather they want to believe it or not. Those of you trying to change the subject or say that Al is what he is, so we’d might as well accept him, whatever, aren’t fooling a soul. Remember that.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:55 pm
This team can not win as long as Al Davis is here. This is not a premature statement. There is 7 years of evidence to prove this. 7 years! Therefore, anyone whose first and foremost wish for this football team is anything other than for Davis’s departure is a Davis shill, and there’s no way around it. Accept that as is, Pluketthead.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
Real MR,
Your picking a fight with the wrong guy. I am no Davis fan at all and disapprove of everything he does.
I don’t blame the players…I said that people in general blame players, coaches etc…because they are replaceable…the owner is here to stay.
I wish he would step down…or hire some real help…but that’s not going to happen.
Hence, I just hope they can compete each week. There are only 16 regular season games a year.
November 25th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
AL NEEDS TO HANG UP HIS HAT. THE GREATNESS HE DID BRING IN THE PAST IS APPRECIATED. HOWEVER, HE HAS DESTROYED THIS FRANCHISE IN THE PAST TWENTY YEARS WITH HIS WAYS; BARRING A TWO YEAR STRETCH EIGHT YEARS AGO (THEN HE FIRED THE COACH AND GM THAT MADE US SO GOOD).
AL NEEDS TO GO, SIMPLE AS THAT. MUCH RESPECT AL, BUT WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY? $UCK ALL. THAT’S WHAT.
November 25th, 2009 at 5:20 pm
I’m a bit more optimistic that somethings going to have to give at 1220 Harbor Bay Rd. I don’t think this can go very long, business wise.
November 25th, 2009 at 5:26 pm
I’ve put up with hopelessly losing for 7 years…what’s another 7 or 10 years?
Sure, I get upset…but after:
1. the twin debacles against the New York teams
2. the absolute implosion of JaMarcus Russell..and 3. the 20 of 24 1st & 2nd round picks that busted and
4. Javon Walker/deAngelo Hall/Gibril Wilson/Kwame Harris
5. The Kiffin debacle
6. 9 coaches in 19 years
7. Trading Gruden
I don’t expect much and its no longer realistic to expect otherwise. This is what my logic tells me.
Of course, my heart hopes they somehow find magic in a bottle and still has me watching….

The Raiders are not just bad, they’re mostly not even competitive with the rest of the league.
MONEY talks and bullshyt walks.
This is the 5th largest Media Market in the United States, and the Raiders are locked out of it.
Blackouts after blackouts after blackout, after blackout………………………………..
At this point, I doubt the Coliseum will sellout again until Davis cedes power.
The NFL will be forced to step in.
November 25th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
KoolKell,
You might be right. Of course, the Raiders share that market with the 49ers…who are selling out their games. I gotta believe the league wishes the Raiders were still in L.A….
Anyway, I don’t think Davis is in as much money trouble as you suggest. The T.V money pays his players…and he doesn’t have an expensive new stadium to finance…nor does davis have to worry about earning a return on his investment….
So he might be able to plod along as is.
We have what we have. Take this year for instance…regardless of what this backup QB does…the Raiders probably have to start all over on offense again with a new coach, quarterback etc…
And will someone tell Al to make a decision on offense….either do the zone blocking west coast or do the more vertical passing game. He keeps going back and forth with this.
Drafting guys like Heyward-Bey, Russell etc….built for deep passing and then insisting on hiring coaches the emphasize technical small ball.
Davis has been a disaster
November 25th, 2009 at 5:55 pm
If Al Davis is so financially secure, why did he sell part of the team in 06′?
TV Revenue is EXACTLY what I’m talking about. This is the 5th largest (TV) market in the US. And the Raiders (Home Team) are virtually locked out of it. You don’t think that hurts the NFL TV money?

As for the game I’m worried about 2 things. The screen pass to Jones / Choice & the power run thru the A gap with Barber.
I think we’re gonna be able to move the chains on O against their D. Ware hasn’t been the same this year w/o Ellis opposite him. He didn’t have a sack thru like 3-4 games. Yeah, he’s been doing better now, but our O-line w/ Gallery and sad to say Green looked pretty solid. Amazing what can happens when you get the ball out on time.

New kid on the blog,Ive been reading this for a few days now.Lots of heart and soul here. Here’s an angle I haven’t seen here.Does anybody here remember A Raider team so young? Does anyone remember Davis ever building a team with so many rookies,2nd and 3rd year players?Ive been a Raider fan since the 70s and dont ever remember a team this young. Seems to me this is how you get out of mediocre.2 2nd year rbs 2 rookie wrs ,1 3rd year te and o-line that has only been together 2 years. And besides Namdi and a couple of veterans on the d-line theres youth all over the defense. We as Raider fans are in the middle of this rebuilding project and its not fun,but I’m excited to see where its going.Win or lose there’s a lot of young talent that just need to keep playing together. And the last thing this team needs is another coach and scheme. AGAIN

“Plunkethead,
You going to thank Jon Gruden for one of those wins in Dallas? I’ll await. We sure didn’t win by “doing whateva we waaanted, and ataaaaacking”. An efficient west coast offense, with a multiple scheme defense under Willie Shaw. Had Bugel, Davis’s guy, still been head coach in ‘98? Cowboys would have then beaten every single team in the league at home.”
Well, Bugel WASN’T and the Cowboys DIDN’T, sorry to disappoint you.
You come up with all these ‘what ifs’. Iv’e got one for you. If the Raiders ran their organization like the New England Patriots they would be winning Super Bowls. These ‘what ifs’ work both ways. We can sit here all day and just make up stuff that coulda, shoulda, woulda happened that did not. Aren’t the Raiders bad enough that we don’t have to make up stuff?

We need production out of JR, DMC, and DHB. All are top 10 picks, but no one has proved to us they earned it. DHB has more dropps than catches, DMC hasn’t done anything in 2 years, and JR has regressed!!
I don’t think DHB will do much, but I still think JR & DMC can be great players!

MR,
It’s obvious that you despise everything Raiders UNTIL Al dies or goes away. Even when they win, you blast them.
Would u like to see some kind of major protest against Al? I get that you want him gone forever, and u feel the situation is hopeless until he is gone. What would you like people to do to help the cause? Not go to games? All that would do is force Al to take his team somewhere else. Do you want him to do that? What do you hope to see here?
Thanks.

Wrong. The owner is replaceable, too. He can replace himself. He can quit anytime he wants. Nobody is holding a gun to Al’s head and forcing him to run the Raiders. If you can wish for better players, you can wish for Al to be gone. Better players aren’t coming until Al is gone, anyway. However, if you can wish for better players but can’t bring yourself to wishing Al was gone, it can only mean you want Al to stay. Al is so bad, so awful at this day and age, you either want him out on his ass, or you support him. There is no middle ground.

………..
Even when we win, I blast them? We haven’t won in 7 years. And, sorry, but I don’t get excited about one junk win in the middle of a lost season. As far as the Raiders winning consistently, you wouldn’t know how I respond to it because you were probably 10 years old the last time it happened. I was over at the SJMecury news board under the name MatuzSAC then. See if they have the archives available, and see how much I was bashing the team in ‘02. I spent more time bashing the press for constantly downplaying our success and exaggerating the success of the Niners. But I don’t have to explain myself to you. I’m just as much a fan of this team as you are. And I have every right to wish Al Davis would leave football operations. Any fan who wants to see the team win wants Al gone, because there’s no way the team can win anymore with Al involved.
November 26th, 2009 at 1:13 am
BTW, as far as protests go, believe me, things are in the works. Good, healthy, legal protests that are certainly going to get some attention, the kind Al hates. Trust me, it’s coming, in a BIG way. And if Al leaves because of it? SO BE IT. That’s the point of a protest. Either do the right thing, or pack up and leave. I’d rather Al Davis moved the team to Finland than keep them in Oakland and lose, bringing nothing to the city, not even tax revenue considering he’s only getting about 30k people into the stadium these days anyway.
November 26th, 2009 at 1:16 am
The Raiders are an embarrassment. This is no time for Davis to start threatening to move the team. Don’t let the door hit ya, Al.
November 26th, 2009 at 2:07 am
Ready to watch the game tonight. Only second time this year that the Raiders are on Danish tv.
Now that we got a win last week and Gradkowski kept us in the game and actually made some big plays down the stretch, my fear is that he will IMPLODE this time.
That would be typical of the last 7 years. Hoping for something NEW tonight!

I don’t get it – Bush averages over 1 yard per carry more than the other backs yet gets less carries per game. He’s looks considerably better than the other two backs. I know Fargas is a warrior but Bush can both plow over the opponents or plow through them. Why does he get so little playing time?

November 26th, 2009 at 6:08 am
I guess Bush got on Cables bad side asking for a breather after the 6 carries in a row when he racked up 37 yards. Better to have someone else carry it 6 times and then have to punt.

He’s a little more consistent than JaMarcus is right now and puts us in a better position to win NOW. That’s it….there is no future in Grads so don’t get too carried away.
November 26th, 2009 at 6:28 am
In Mc Fadden’s BEST GAME this year he averaged 4.2 yards per carry. For the YEAR Bush is averaging 4.7 YPC.
There was one game that McFadden had 6 carries and ended up with -2 yards rushing.
And I think Fargas is actually our 3rd best runner. He’s the most reckless in throwing his body, but it often means he just isn’t finding a hole.
November 26th, 2009 at 6:29 am
I have a little higher hope 4 him just because he lead Div.1A in completion% his senior year.We never had a QB that can say that,I dont think. He could do it and I hope he does. This way they can all gell together
November 26th, 2009 at 6:32 am
Fargas gained 9 yards on a pitch on 1st down. Now that the defense must respect Grads I expect our #10 ranked rushing attack, last year,to be back in form. All of this b/c Grads can complete a lil 3-10 yard pass

I agree the chances are small that he turns into a long-term solution. But he hasn’t had much playing time except his rookie year when he didn’t look bad with the Bucs. I’ll give him a chance to prove himself. He doesn’t have much to work with honestly and didn’t look horrible.
Also, we have Frye who’s a 62% thrower in his career and I thought looked the best in the Pre-Season out of all our QBs.
Except for Kolb in Phily (who I don’t know if he’ll be a FA this year) I don’t know many others who we could pick up who would be better options.
November 26th, 2009 at 6:35 am
a long shot but like you say Mav I dont see anyone on the horizon and he already work with Hackett in T.B.
November 26th, 2009 at 6:37 am
and maybe not that long of a shot either. You never know at this level and thats another GREAT thing about the NFL,imo
November 26th, 2009 at 6:41 am
Yeah and anyone talking about bringing Vick in PLEASE don’t…He’s just the type of QB who we would bring in and doesn’t succeed here. He only completed over 55% of his passes 1 out of the 7 years he was in the league.
November 26th, 2009 at 6:55 am
I do NOT want Vick anywhere near the Raiders either.
I am agonizing on wheather 2 start Grads on my FF team or stick wid Warner.Cards play Titans soo they prolly be able 2 run.We gonns need Grads to pass, imo…so I’m agonizing.Plus I dont want Grads to beat up Exla but I wanna win.OHHHH whatever shall I doooooo???
November 26th, 2009 at 6:57 am
raiderzmaverick > you’re right. We’re not going to get anybody better right now so we live with Grad and hope he doesn’t blow games and our D and running win us a couple of ballgames to close out the year and wait for the draft.
Sounds familiar!
November 26th, 2009 at 7:03 am
Stick with Warner, Gradkowski isn’t trustworthy yet in fantasy leagues. They may run it but I think they’ll want to keep the game in Warner’s hands. You can’t just not use Fitz/Boldin/Breaston… they’re big weapons (at least the first two)

I don’t see any Raiders QB throwing for much over 200 yards this year, so stick with Warner.
Hope for grads to play solid, limit turnovers and keep the chains moving and for us to successfully pound the ball with the RBs.
November 26th, 2009 at 7:04 am
i think there needs to be a rule that the Raiders are not permitted to draft a QB in the first round…
one of the reasons the raiders had average years between the end of the Plunkett years and the beginning of the Gannon years was the lack of a good QB/or lack of a good running back… either/or…
we just couldn’t seem to have both at the same time…
i used to joke that the league had a rule that the Raiders were not allowed to have a top notch QB…
just to keep things fair…
oh…
Schroeder still sucks…

I would start B Grad over Warner. The team is rallying around Grad after JaMarshmallow sucked the life out of the entire org.
Warner doesn’t finish most games these days either..
November 26th, 2009 at 7:07 am
I agree Pete, why not draft 2nd/3rd round – look at Brady… 7th rounder… You don’t have to draft in the 1st to get a franchise QB and anyway, we don’t actually badly need a franchise QB, we just need one who can look after the ball, throw a few good passes and the rest we can go with our 3-headed ground attack…
November 26th, 2009 at 7:07 am
Warner will still get more yards and touchdowns than Gradkowski imho
November 26th, 2009 at 7:07 am
Thankz MistaBrown…just when I think I know what I’m doing…You have a valid point there Mista
November 26th, 2009 at 7:08 am
I would love it if we just got some huge HOGS on the line and started BLASTING the ball down people’s throats and then passing when needed lol
November 26th, 2009 at 7:08 am
I don’t want us to try to draft another QB. I’d like us to bring in a real QB for competition (like we should have done earlier this year instead of kicking our best QB out because we didn’t give him a chance to compete).
If Kolb is a FA I would bring him in. In the 3 games he played this year he has a damned near 65% completion percentage and is still young (only his 3rd year in the league)….damned….he signed a 4 year contract as a rookie so he still has 1 year left on it.
November 26th, 2009 at 7:08 am
Beanie Wells is really coming into his own.Warner still might be seeing shadows…tough call
November 26th, 2009 at 7:09 am
At the beginning of the year I wanted nothing to do with Vick either but after watching the Jamarcus Russell for 9 weeks I think Vick should be brought in, with no guarantees for anybody! OPEN JOB!
November 26th, 2009 at 7:16 am
You’re right Maverik, it should have been a competition from the outset. Next year it’ll surely be competition through training camp…?! We do need a tried and tested QB. Open job indeed!
And 4eva – I see your point but i’d still stick with Warner
November 26th, 2009 at 7:22 am

Gobble Gobble!
Cmon Grads! You CAN be the next Gannon. Dink and dunk is not a big deal, and you have the mobility.
Cmon Cable! Let’s get some creativity going with this offense. Create some mismatches in the passing game!
This game is RIGHT there for us! Defense needs to contain Felix on 3rd downs, and we can keep this team under 14 pts!
Enjoy the game folks!

November 26th, 2009 at 7:35 am
Damned….Kevin Kolb was drafted in the 2nd round after we took Russell. We could’ve had Calvin Johnson with the 1st pick and then Kevin Kolb with our 2nd round pick.
November 26th, 2009 at 7:41 am
Raiderzmav all 32 teams could say they could have had this guy or that guy the draft is crazy but we have def made some blunders but there are some good picks sprinkled around. If AL kept his nose out of things and let the coaches do their jobs we wouldn’t be complaining as much about draft picks.

That’s true. Our later picks seem to fare better than our 1st round picks…..well….actually either they fare better or are found as completely mis-fits to our scheme and cut before training camp is over.

Happy Thanksgiving Nation
Some general thoughts on what I have been reading.
This coaching staff is excellent and will stay in place next year. Guaranteed.
Tollner,Cable,Hackett,Marshall have had success elsewhere.
Our problenm is a lack of talent and poor execution.
The young skill guys are developing. We will have frustrations but they will get better.
The problem with this team is that we had to put them ALL in at once.
JR,Dmac,Bush Bey,Miller,Murphy,Shillens.
NO TEAM IN THE LEAGUE has that much youth starting or playing a significant role on offense at one time.
JR will be the franchise QB.
Developing more slowly than I would like but the supporting cast IS a big factorin his delayed development.
Branch having as many tackles as he has should signify the huge Dline problems we STILL have.
We have similar issues on the Oline which is why we must go with Brad until they are addressed in the draft.
Warren, Carlisle, and Green should not be starting.
We address those issues and we are a playoff team.
Our first three picks in April will be focused on the lines.
November 26th, 2009 at 8:18 am
I think you’re being a bit overzealous to call our coaching staff “excellent”. Hackett is thought to be one of the better QB coaches in the game. Marshall has a long and above-average career. Tollner hasn’t been good as an O-Coordinator in the past at all. Cable is a great technician and hasn’t lost his players which is a good statment in itself…but, he still holds double standards or accepts them from above. Keeping Russell and DHB starting just “for youth” yet saying that it’s giving them the best chance to win is BS. That is a big black mark from my point of view. We aren’t starting Soneghessy (DE or however you spell his name) because of youth and despite his potential. We’re not starting young O-Linemen because they’re the future. Hell, the receiver on our team with the most catches (more than all other WRs combined) hasn’t even been given a chance in a game. What does that tell you about double standards?
November 26th, 2009 at 8:22 am
I can see us going line…I said yesterday I wonder if they think of Slade Norris as a MLB. 6-3 245 and young…Nixon is 225 ??? I wonder anyway the DT we got our ends imo
November 26th, 2009 at 8:24 am

November 26th, 2009 at 8:26 am
I don’t know Charlie.
Only 1 OL guy rated on the top 25. We have Shaugnessy, Bryant, and Scott as young prospects on the Dline.
I’d like to think that we would go with the lines, but I just can’t see it. Henderson, Satele, and Gallery are locked in. Look like Langston Walker is the heir apparent to RT.
With no LBs rated high either, I think the pick may be a corner, lol. Routt is a FA and their is no one behind him.

November 26th, 2009 at 8:34 am
Okay – Let’s see who gets closest to final score. I say 21 – 17 Raiders wiin….
although…based on our past games after winning….it’d be more like 27 – 10 Cowboys win….only, I think we’ll definitely score a bit more than in the other games with a half-way descent QB in there.
My hope in winning lays with the raised confidence of the group with Gradowski in and the raised effeciency he gives.

Good points Mav,
But when did a coach ever start a young player and then come out in the press and say we know he’s not our best choice here but we have to play him anyway.
These choices are made all over the league every week,
coaches all realize it but you can’t throw your players under the bus like that.
It’s a business.
November 26th, 2009 at 8:41 am
Your right Engineer,
This past year would have been the time to draft Oline. Pretty heavy with good prospect through round 2. This upcoming year, seems like Dline is where it’s at. Might be able to get a decent ZBS prospect in rd 3 or 4. Has to be a reason Langston Walker is back on the squad, and has effectively put Pears and Barnes on the inactive list. I have to think that he is next in line ar RT behind COrnbread, and hey, why not?
November 26th, 2009 at 8:42 am

ALL college lineman are 2 years away from making any impact in the pros.
Look at the last two drafts.
They are all projects at this point, the underclass draft has sucked it dry.
They are just not good value picks when a 3 year vet can outplay them why bother.
Go FA on the line and have a good blocking system.
Save the money you are going to have to pay two starting QBs for the next 5 years.

There is not honestly ONE guy coming out who I think can make an instant impact. Not too excited about any of the 3 or 4 QB coming out to give them top 10 $.
I wish to GOD that we would trade the pick for a veteran WR and split that first round money with him and Seymour.

Jhill….we don’t have a 1st round pick so won’t have to waste 1st round money on anybody. I think we’ve got quite a good number of picks (we traded Bergess and I think someone else) so hopefully we can find quantity.
Do you guys remember back when we were winning….(I know it’s a long time ago)…but we always had a MOUNTAIN of a DT. We haven’t had any space-eating HUGE DT for a while and I think we need to draft one. Either that or it’s Morrison to blame. He makes a lot of tackles, but often it’s far off the Line of Scrimmage.

We really have no choice but to play all of the kids and let them develop.
The JR move though unfortunate, was necessary.
There is just not enough of a supporting cast for JR for proper development AND giving us a chance to win.
Gradkowski’s experience is more suited to us winning some games now given the offense we have TODAY.
He simply adapts better to unscripted situations as compared to JR at this time.
Sanchez,Ryan,Flacco etc etc have all had awful performances but in most cases their supporting casts are strong enough that the QB inexperience is not magnified as much as with JR on a weekly basis.
The point I am making about the coaching staff is that stability far outweighs making a change for any perceived improvement we might get.
Our young guys will develop much more quickly with continuity with the coaches.
Mr Davis sees this.
Tyvon Branch should not be making as many tackles as he is. The stat of 64 tackles to date is scary and is confimation that our Dline is not making plays.
Warren is awful. Kelly is inconsistent. The young ends are developing but are mistake prone.
The only consistent guys we have on the Dline are Ellis(aging and injury prone) and Seymour.
The offense works(or doesn’t) primarily because of Oline play. Brees and Peyton can create when line play breaks down but they are the exception. The fact of the matter is Green and Carlise can not win enough of the individual battles to win games. That is a forty percent liability that we must address with high draft picks, not free agent retreads like Pears or Barnes.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:08 am
I’m of a mind 2 move Seymour inside with Bryant…Ellis,Shaunessy,Richardson,Scott at DE’s then get the baddest DT, MLB
November 26th, 2009 at 9:10 am
Don’t see us taking a DT with our #1 (We don’t have our 2011 1st rounder) unless we somehow get rid of Warren. I think Branch’s # of takles is more of an indicater of not having a strong MLB. I think come draft time either Mcclain or Spikes might be rated highly. In any case we should trade back which won’t happen.

Note that JR has more experience and game time then Gradkowski in his career so far….so it’s not Gradowski’s experience that is better in winning us games, but his preparation and level of play.

November 26th, 2009 at 9:25 am
I agree with Charlie on most points.
JR did himself no favours, with his perceived lack of preperation.
But bottom line is that they never asked Gradkowski to make the throws JR was being called on.
That simplified the schemes and it is better suited for the supporting cast.
In a funny way JRs arm strength was a weakness with this offense.
Opening series for Grads was two running plays.
What No verticals!!?
November 26th, 2009 at 9:25 am
Charlie,
I don’t disagree with your theory of building the lines. But the reality of it is we may have missed the boat from a drat standpoint. This years draft is not Oline friendly. It’s just not.
It would be better to try and fill the holes on the Oline and Dline with quality veterans. Not Pears types, but solid veterans that are maybe 4 years or so into the league. You might even consider targeting a veteran under contract and trade the #1 pick for him.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:26 am
From what I remember, Dan Williams is exactly the type of DT we need….I wonder if he’s still playing well and eating up space….
November 26th, 2009 at 9:29 am
I thought so too Centurion.
Sam Williams has actaully been playing pretty well. I’ve been one of his biggest critics, but he’s actually looked decent on the edge. The LB get blamed because of the big screens and 3rd and and forevers that we always give up.
Truth be told, our defense is a few tighted up screws from being pretty damn good with the guys we have.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:32 am
Larz,
I just can’t tell you how happy I was for Cable that he learned NOT to call 4 vertcals from our own end zone after we recovered Cincy’s fumble.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:32 am
Drafting linemen in the first round is a crapshoot at best.
Look at the last two drafts, the underclassmen draft has sucked the college ranks dry.
You are essentially paying premium dollars for guys two years out of High School.
If you have 4-5 years to wait around then great.
I say have a great scheme and sign solid FAs and grab some well suited late rounders.
LB RB and DBs they are usally a better bet.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:34 am
Jhill
Do you think there was a slight message from Cable with the change of game plan.
He was not as big a “risk taker” with Grads
November 26th, 2009 at 9:34 am
Larz….I hope to hell we don’t use our 1st round pick to draft DBs or RBs this year!

4evaRaider,
what up Bruh? You have anyone playing today in your FF?
November 26th, 2009 at 9:36 am
I haven’t paid much attention to the LBs this year… maybe I’ll watch them tonight – we’re gonna need them against the run and screens…
November 26th, 2009 at 9:36 am
Draft the meanest hardest hitting MLB first…
No we do not need Taylor Mays…..
November 26th, 2009 at 9:37 am
With our history of 1st round picks, i’d rather trade a 1 for a 2nd and 3rd and go from there. We seem to have better success inthe later rounds…maybe it’s the lack of the big money guaranteed contract.

If all this talk is true about Carlos Dunlap, and he is available to us in the 2nd. Should we draft him, or pass on him for more of a need position ( DT, RT, LB, or CB)?!
November 26th, 2009 at 9:38 am
Perhaps I have followed the Raiders longer than some of you guys but the following LINEMAN were drafted in the first round by the Raiders:
G Upshaw, A Smith,Gallery,D Russell,McGlockton,Wisniewski,Mosebar, Lawrence, Thoms off the top of my head.
They were all solid pros up to Hall of Fame caliber talent.
I can think of only two first round linaman busts.John Clay and Bob Buchowski(back injury).
Yes you can find an Art Shell in round three but your odds of success are obviously much higher in rounds one and two. We have great success after drafting lineman high in the draft and we will do it again in 2010.
This is not a new trend. We simply have to get back to our roots. BUILD THE LINES AND THE WINNS WILL FOLLOW.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:38 am
I have to go.
We had our Thanksgiving in October.
Thats not stopping me from missing work today.
Cough Cough!!
But I want to give out a hearty Happy Thanksgiving to all my US Raider fans.
Enjoy the day guys.
And get ready for the rush on Sam Williams jearseys.
We are going to need Sammie the rest of the way.
Later all.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:38 am
Thats because Mr. Davis is responsible for all first day picks…. WTF is a DHB anyway?
Crabtree > DHB
November 26th, 2009 at 9:40 am
LMAO @ 273.
I think we should call this game ” The Drop Ball”!
Have fun Roy & DHB!
November 26th, 2009 at 9:41 am
Charlie, I remember all those guys, and yes we need to build both our lines for starters, and add depth. I will say bryant and shaugnessy have beem playing well.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:42 am
Look For Mr. Davis to pick Taylor Mays…
Illogical
November 26th, 2009 at 9:43 am
If by chance the #1 rated DT happens 2B available where-ever we pick, well then take him but if not trade-down and aquire, imo
November 26th, 2009 at 9:43 am
i thought BSPN said that we’ve never lost in Dallas and that they have lost 3 straight to us overall since 1995. Is that true? if so wow!
November 26th, 2009 at 9:43 am
You Guys take care and be safe……….
HAPPY TDay NATION?????????
November 26th, 2009 at 9:45 am
Nice back shoulder throw by Stafford. When was the last time the Raiders threw back shoulder?…On purpose.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:47 am
Whats the over/under on dropped balls? I say 13.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:48 am
whats with all the gerard warren hate? he is by far better than tommy kelly. doesnt make nearly as much money. warren blows up a few plays every game, while tommy kelly does not try, or hustle and looks gassed after a few snaps. if you guys are gonna hate on warren, lets be fair. he is a LOT more of a force than tommy kelly. no?
November 26th, 2009 at 9:48 am
Yo Thec!!! maybe I start Grads on my FF 2day
November 26th, 2009 at 9:48 am
Colo,
Last week.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:50 am
I stand corrected.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:53 am
Good Morning And Happy Thanksgiving, Nation!!!
November 26th, 2009 at 9:54 am
You guys don’t want Carlos Dunlap in the 2nd RD?! The best DT will be picked in the 1st RD. Brandon Spikes may fall to the 2nd RD, but he won’t be available when we pick. Believe it or not, there are a few teams that are playing worse than us. KC, Rams, Lions, Browns, TB, Bills, & Seattle, and Redskins.

I remember we wiffed badly on O-Linemen during the Kiffen period. We had 3 1st round picks in a few years on O-Line and none of them panned out (Mo Collins, Matt Stinchcolm…?). Then we had Gallery which looked like a miss until he became a guard (and a damned solid one at that).
D-Line I don’t remember any 1st round busts from us….in fact….I don’t remember us drafting any D-Line in the 1st 2 rounds since Leon Bender….
Wait….scratch that….we did draft one Tyler Breyenton….remember him?
November 26th, 2009 at 9:59 am
I remember Brayton. I remember him giving Seattles TE a knee to the groin twice in a Sunday night game.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:00 am
New England
Warren makes $5mill a year!!!!!!!!!!!
That is more than Seymour. He got it because Sapp talked him up.
Thank goodness Lombardi is gone and Cable is dealing directly with Mr Davis.
Warren is awful and was deemed expendable by Cleveland and the Donkeys.
Watch him. He should be able to blow up double teams for $5 mill a year but he gets crushed by man on man blocking.
His contarct expires at the end of this year and he will be out of the league. Guaranteed.
He is an embarrasment only exceeded by another Sapp protege– Sands. Another waste of time and money.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:01 am
Yup, we have never lost at the Texas Stadium. And I believe 4 years ago we beat them here in OakTown! I hope BSPN did not jinx the Raiders by saying that…!

Same to you 4eva!!! I hope we go in there today and beat the crap out of them! I love seeing Jerry Jones with that dumbfounded look on his face!
November 26th, 2009 at 10:07 am
Maverick
I am talking FIRST rounders.
Aside from that point, you need to draft lineman in the higher rounds to build lines like the Giants and Steelers who win on a regular basis.
Jim Plunkett was successful with the Raiders because of the Oline. How did he do with the Pats and the niners?
Our Oline made guys like Van Eeghan and Hubbard look great.
No one even heard of those Colgate guys until we drafted them.
Bottom line is that with the exception of QB you can have a great team drafting skill guys in the later rounds as long as you have STRONG lines.
We have gone away form our roots which has gotten us in trouble.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:07 am
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Me 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 26th, 2009 at 10:07 am
Hwnrdr,
Wow I am shocked at that streak, considering they had great teams over the years in Dallas.
Colo,
No worries man. I was disappointed we had not threw that backshoulder more this season… but then again it was JR at the helm for all those games until last week.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:08 am
What a throw by AR!
November 26th, 2009 at 10:11 am
I’d agree with that, we should probably look to strengthen the line with a decent RT. I think we need receivers but not young ones, we have enough of those… We also have a good TE in Miller, a good set of RBs and at QB, we have Russell (for better or for worse!). On the line – Seymour, Ellis, Kelly and Warren have been playing well this year but perhaps we need to draft a young DE or two… LBs – Morrison and Howard are quality players and Ricky Brown isn’t too bad either. At corner we have Nnamdi and Johnson who are both solid – maybe we could do with extra depth at CB though – Routt and Holland aren’t brilliant. At safety… Huff and Branch are good. Branch is going to be really good and Huff has definitely taken strides in proving his draft status, though I won’t say he has proved it for sure. We also have a good young guy in Mitchell.
So, even though it’s November, here’s where I think we have needs imho…seeing as we’re discussing it…
OT/DE/WR (but a vet)/CB/
In the draft:
Round 1: OT
Round 2: DE
Round 3: CB
Round 4: DE
Round 5:Return specialist?? who doubles up at WR??
Round 6: O-Liner
Round 7: DT
Thoughts? (I’m aware we don’t have all 7 rounds…which do we have?)
November 26th, 2009 at 10:13 am
4eva and Raider O
Happy Thanksgiving my Raider brothers!
And to all of my brothers and sisters in the Nation:
Happy Thanksgiving! Keep in mind what this day is all about and what we have to be thankful for: Family, friends, good health, prosperity and the Raiders!
November 26th, 2009 at 10:15 am
raider o wassup, u know im on board with dunlap in rnd 2. what happened to him thats makin him fall?
November 26th, 2009 at 10:18 am
I would like
Round 1: MLB (Hate it or love it, I feel Spikes is just like Patrick Willis)
Round 2: NT n DT ( Take the best hybrid inside player who can play the 3-4 n plays 4-3, some like the kid from Alabama I think his name is Cody)
Round 3: RT
Round 4: Center
Round 5: RG
Round 6: CB
Round 7: Strong side LB
November 26th, 2009 at 10:18 am
Happy Thanksgiving to you too brother.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:20 am
i wish we had a chance at suh. he is what we want kelly to be but never will be. d williams from tenn is good too but i like the idea of dunlap off the edge and move seymour inside where kelly is. then say goodbye to warren and kelly. we definately need mlb slb rt. id look to get the best dl and mlb first before that rt. id like to see us get a solid veteran rt first then get another in the draft. we need to make a play for bolden as well. nobody needs a veteran wr like us.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:21 am
Charlie if you like Giants OL line. One of their starters was cut in his second year, the kid from the Ivy league, he is starter there.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:22 am
I think we win today wooooooooooo hoooooooooooooooooooo
November 26th, 2009 at 10:23 am
I think MLB is essential, Morrison is gone after this season, he is a free agent so we need Spikes to start right away.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:23 am
Dogg,
Happy Thanksgiving to you & your family. We all have something to be thankful about, but let’s not forget to be thanful for living in the US. I love this country. Helped my dad with over $1,000,000 in medical bills when he had Cancer, and I was able to spend more time with him. I’m able to toto school, have a family, and own a business at the same time.
Thank You USA!!
November 26th, 2009 at 10:25 am
What about DE? Why is Morrison gone? Can’t we try re-sign him? Spikes looks awsum though! I watched a bit of the Florida Georgia game on ESPN America
November 26th, 2009 at 10:25 am
Spikes is a good choice, regardless of the eye gouging. Is he top 10 good? I don’t know. Would like to see some quality Oline picks, and maybe a late round QB.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:26 am
Armond,
They are talking about his work ethic, and lack of production for this year.
Happy Thanksgiving bro.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:27 am
What about McClain?!
November 26th, 2009 at 10:35 am
damn him too? i think with questions like those its not a bad pick when its past the 1rst rnd like with michael johnson of GT this year. if dunlap is available after the 1rst then u have to consider him cuz someone will draft him. yeah mcclain is good but im not as familiar with him as i am spikes. i like brandons leadership and the hoopla that he brings. i feel we need some of that open bravado around here. mcclain is supposed to have the better upside so it really depends on what u want.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:37 am
yeah o u have a good hoiliday and dont let cable fook up your appetite today when we all watch dmc get his 4 rushes.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:43 am
if next year is uncapped we wont have alot of FA except seymour morrison would be a Rfa along with Routt and most of the other guys
November 26th, 2009 at 10:45 am
Armond,
I agree. Not bad for a 2nd RD pick, but not in the 1st RD.
I would draft;
1- Suh, McClain, or Spikes.
2- Carlos Dunlap.
3- RT
3- CB
4- LB/ DT depends on the 1st RD
November 26th, 2009 at 10:48 am
5- RG
5- DT
6- FB
7- LB
November 26th, 2009 at 10:50 am
We can fix all other issues in FA.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:55 am
We should cut Warren, TK, Alston, Brown, Eugene, Routt, Green, Cooper, Watkins, Walker, RB Russell, S Williams, and Fargas!
November 26th, 2009 at 10:55 am
hey whattup 16, morrison should be gone after this year and seymour aint goin nowhere. o, i like your order except u know we will take another skill guy. wouldnt be surprised if we go wr in the last rnd again just to see if we strike another chaz. jlh has been a huge disappointment this year playin scared. the last rnd normally goes to whoever is the best athlete with upside. too bad chaz cant stay healthy cuz he would be ballin now.
November 26th, 2009 at 10:57 am
For those thinking of Spikes, you may want to check this guy out. I have watched him this year and he is a STUD. I think he is a much more impact player than Spikes. i have seen Vols Hardesty bounce off of Spikes. Hardesty is a legit NFL RB and that’s who Spikes and NOrwood will be facing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcx-V4xd2Nk
November 26th, 2009 at 11:01 am
i agree with all of those except fargas. just dont give him the ball as much but u have to admit bush and dmc aint doin much to stop them from doin that. another lb to look at is keaton kristik from oregon st. that dude is fast and physical. Tcody seems to be fallin back a little bit from where he was considered. this is the year to go dline and lb heavy like we shouldve went oline heavy this year. its some decent wrs comin out too so we really messed up takin heybey this year.
November 26th, 2009 at 11:01 am
Warren & TK are backups at best, so is Brown, Green, Cooper, and Fargas.
Eugene, Williams, Watkins, and Routt shouldn’t play in the NFL!
Euk makes 2.5 mola year just to play STs!!! Cut him!!!
End the Scholarship Programs!!!!
November 26th, 2009 at 11:01 am
I just can’t see taking a T with our 1st pick. Henderson is a good – great LT and we’re not paying top 10 money to a RT. Thats why I was thinking MLB. Think Mcclain will be worth the pick. LIke last year, maybe we’ll trade down…. or not.
November 26th, 2009 at 11:03 am
Spikes is very good but he has bonehead stuff like this that makes you wonder….
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrpGdo9MyH4
November 26th, 2009 at 11:03 am
*2.5 Mil
November 26th, 2009 at 11:05 am
MLB is the only way to go. You dont give a RT top 10 money….
November 26th, 2009 at 11:06 am
You can get good RT 2nd or 3rd… Would not draft a WR either… But would have preferred dez bryant over crabtree and that DHB thing….
November 26th, 2009 at 11:06 am
Meant like we all wanted last year to trade back. Didn’t mean to trade back like last year. Sorry, came out wrong.
November 26th, 2009 at 11:07 am
We should have traded out of the the top 10 last 2 drafts….
November 26th, 2009 at 11:12 am
aig thats the kinda stuff that makes me like spikes. we need some damn personality on the field. its not like hes all theatrics and no production, the boy can play. i do agree about eric norwood tho i forgot about him. dez bryant is so much better than dhb its not even funny. i remember watching him against oregon in the holiday bowl hopin he would come out. then i heard them say he was a true sophmore and i was like ” AW DAMMIT GINA!!”
November 26th, 2009 at 11:14 am
Glad everyone can check in all day all week-end all through the HOLIDAYS!!!!
November 26th, 2009 at 11:16 am
Armond, Yeah Bruh I made the same mistake with Dez Bryant he is so dynamic thought he was a JR… He looked awesome as a freshmen as well. I wanted us to wait, either trade down or take a DT….
November 26th, 2009 at 11:18 am
Dez Bryant ate oregon up in the holiday bowl last year, and to me is better than crabtree, had he not been involved with neon deion he would win ALL the WR awards this year….
November 26th, 2009 at 11:21 am
armond,
ok you got me there bro with your take on Spikes. The Raiders used to be known as the dirty team anyways.
On Dez Bryant, shcyttt…i’d love to see him in Silver and Black but I doubt Al will go for another WR this year. He has to go DT this year. i dont think he drafts too many OT in the first round from memory. Gallery was a rare case.
November 26th, 2009 at 11:23 am
man, imagine if we had CWood and 21 on the field at the same time right now.
November 26th, 2009 at 11:24 am
there’s a lot of talk on crabtree right now but he’s nothing more than an avg receiver imo. I think Dez has much more upside and bigger/faster too.
November 26th, 2009 at 11:25 am
I was oping we wait on Bryant this year and not take DHB, Should have take a DT last year. So no to Dez Bryant but yes to the best MLB in the land.
1. MLB
2. DT
3. RT
4. RG
November 26th, 2009 at 11:26 am
Mr Davis will take;
1. SS
2. CB
3. P
4. C
November 26th, 2009 at 11:26 am
Round one RT
Round two DT
Round three Guard
Got to go .
Happy Thanksgiving Nation!
November 26th, 2009 at 11:28 am
This would have been the year to take bryant had we did what we should have done the last 2 years and build our lines. Cant do it now we have the great DHB dropping passes for us.
November 26th, 2009 at 11:29 am
wow how do you not do a 3 step drop on a 4th and 2?
November 26th, 2009 at 11:30 am
DHB is the new Ricky Dudley?
November 26th, 2009 at 11:32 am
DHB is the garbage man…….
November 26th, 2009 at 11:32 am
F@CK DHB, and BRL…..
November 26th, 2009 at 11:35 am
Thec,
you remember ricky Dudley? drafted 10th overalll after Al traded up for him. Had great combine numbers and 40 time. Only 1 problem. Can’t catch!!!
We passed up Eddie George for him i believe.
November 26th, 2009 at 11:43 am
It will work-out with DHB,every one says it takes a WR 3 years…I’m glad we threw him in the FIRE…and you all will B2
November 26th, 2009 at 11:44 am
Man Eddie George would have been a “good” RB 4 us
November 26th, 2009 at 11:48 am
Yup. Can’t believe we traded up for ricky Dudley when we could have had George in mid first. George didnt have the 40 time.
November 26th, 2009 at 11:48 am
aight yall im back jumpin between the game and the blog. yeah i agree with everything said. its funny how if we took advantage of the strength of each draft we would be in better position to get the playmaking wr we need now anyway. well we cant make the same mistake with the dlineman this time. we did good with m.shawny and d.bryant but now we need to perfect those signings by making sure we get the cream of the crop next year. 2 many dt’s and de’s to pass up.
November 26th, 2009 at 11:51 am
I did it Gradkowski starts 4 me in FF
November 26th, 2009 at 11:52 am
that’s a lot of faith in Grad man. Wow props to you.
November 26th, 2009 at 11:53 am
i have to choose between Drew Brees and Tom Brady to start. What do you guys think?
November 26th, 2009 at 11:53 am
I still have Favre starting in my other league
November 26th, 2009 at 11:55 am
hey with a record of 5-6 I’ma gambling
November 26th, 2009 at 11:57 am
i thought kneeling down in the ednzone was a penalty? whats the difference between james jones and driver doin what cj did in houston?
November 26th, 2009 at 11:57 am
I’m thankful for carnitas burritos being available 24/7 in every California town with a population of more than 20.
I was thankful for the first amendment, until I found this blog. Now I’m thankful for the muzzle.
November 26th, 2009 at 11:58 am
And I dunno Aig…
I know I beat this dead horse 2 death but Grads led the nation in completion% his senior year…which means 2 me he know every play where everybody gonna be.Thats exactly what this team needs, imo…We got horses’ I hope we run ROUGH-SHOD over the ‘boys
