Final: Cowboys 24, Raiders 7

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Thursday, November 26th, 2009 at 4:25 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Scoring

Dal_Roy Williams 6-yard pass from Tony Romo (Nick Folk kicks PAT), 13:12

Notes:

– Raiders drive into Dallas territory, Darrius Heyward-Bey catches 17-yard pass, Gradkowski 17 yards to Schilens. Getting some cosmetic stats late. Drive dies at 20 when Gradkowski throws incomplete.

Raiders call last time out with 1:44 to play before Cowboys begin to kill clock. Barber first down will allow Cowboys to kneel on ball for the win.

– Third down, Marion Barber for 32 yards and a first down. Dallas has 384 yards on its 10 biggest plays.

– Gradkowski sacked by Anthony Spencer, Raiders can’t manage a first down, punt it back to Dallas wtih 8:12 left.

– Dallas penalizes itself into third-and-23, Romo throws short to Witten, Dallas punts at 10 minute mark.

– Down 24-7, with 13:12 left, Raiders need an answer _ and it needs to come quicker than an 11-play drive. Instead, they go three-and-out with 11:46 to play

– First play of fourth quarter _ Romo to Witten for 44 yards to the 8-yard line. Two snaps later, Romo finds Williams for six yards and a score as Chris Johnson looks immediately at Tyvon Branch as Raiders assess a blown coverage.

Taxguy, have you ever seen Russell or been around him? have you talked to the coaches? Have you talke to the players?

I have and I know for a fact he cares and works. he’s just young and stupid, he needs to frow up

    ………………..
lol. I agree priest. I don’t like the bro-hawk either.

Well, I love the Raiders always will, May God change our fortunes and allow us to see our beloved team be the best in this league. Amen

With that said, happy thanksgiving 2 u all

  6. AbusedByAl Says:

I’d say O-line was often overwhelmed. Also too many stupid penalties again. Schilens is the most competent WR we have. Miller is v.good. Murphy was close a few times today. DHB… he can be worse too.

  7. priesttj Says:

Well, your hero did the best he could which isn’t much but he was game. The Great Gradkowski will be back!!… unfortunately!!

  8. Raider75 Says:

Captain Kirk needs to go away. His run technique is horrible. Can’t shed blocks, is constantly out of position, and can’t read the play.

Guy got blew up by Witten multiple times today.

  9. RaidingTexas Says:

For those unnamed DUHMARCUS defenders . . .

In 10 starts this season, DUHMARCUS completed 50% or more of his passes a total of 2 times.

In 2 starts, Gradkowski completed 50% or more of his passes BOTH TIMES. He also completed OVER 50% in his one long relief appearance against the Jets.

Bruce is not the answer, but he gives the team a better chance until the Raiders can find a real QB. It’s over with DUHMARCUS. Move on.

  10. AbusedByAl Says:

Cowboys had better O and better D. Austin is great, Romo didn’t make any big mistakes. Not the greatest, but knows what he’s doing most of the times. We were almost always in the game thanks to good D, but they beat us and we must not complain. Our O still needs to get better, definitely better. Too many 3 and outs.

Ah, and I still have to see ONE good run from DMAC. All I saw from him today was getting stopped after one yard when he was “rushing”.

  13. Raider75 Says:

Gradkowski finishes 18-35 for 200 yards and 1 TD.

Had a few drops as well, but was constantly under pressure.

Gradkowski has more TD passes in 2 games than Russell had in 9 games.

Could have been better, but still did enough to keep Russell on the bench.

  14. priesttj Says:

The Oline played well until we got down by 17 to zip. Then they turned tthe dogs loose.

The way we ran the ball all over them if Grads had helped with the pass we could’ve kept them off balance. But when you pass for 20 yards the whole half you’re screwed. Dallas is just too talented.

  15. Nnamdi21 Says:

Blown coverages, poor tackling, no pass rush up front, and the same ole traveshamockery of an offense = another embarrasing loss.

At least we scored a TD.

    Damm.

McFadden got reps and produced some but nothing of consequence.

Bush was given the ball once I can recall. 7 yds.

Sam Williams was victimized time and again in coverage.

Why the **** is this guy on a team?

Gallery made another stupid azz play that cost us momentum and likely points.

Should get fined for an ugly, blatant chop block.

Talk about busts, he’s bigger then any of the Raiders draft picks including DMC.

Gradkowski is a below average schmoe who’s endeared himself to his QB coach over the years.

He may work his azz off, but he’ll never be any better then sub par.

    Get to work Russell.

Russell’s this teams QB. Deal whith it and stop trying to make fetch happen.

Gradkowski didn’t complete a pass to a wide until the 3rd quarter.

Maybe you should’ve watched the game instead of straining your brain cell to come up with a “clever” Russell rip.

  17. priesttj Says:

75, are you stupid did you see how many picks he threw that they didn’t catch? How many wide pen recievrs he missed? Grads was aweful!!

He played better in the 2nd half but it was nothing he could do, he’s just not talented enough……….period. Great guy mediocre QB at best.

  18. RaidingTexas Says:

    Gallery. Huff. Russell. McFadden. Heywood-Bey.

It’s a sickening trend. A lot of money tied up in first-round picks who are fourth-round talent at best.

    ……..
    Stupid? Whatever nut-sucker.

Picks they didn’t catch? Last I checked, that isn’t a stat in the NFL.

Yeah, there were some wide open WRs but Gradkowski was under a lot of pressure.

By the way… the word is awful, not aweful. When you are accusing someone else of being stupid you should really use spell-check.

Bruce still had 50% completion and 200 yards passing in that onslaught. DUHMARCUS had less than 150 yards SEVEN FKNG TIMES IN NINE TRIES this season. How can he be defended? It’s just ridiculous.

Good thing the fat azz with the Brohawk didn’t start at QB, we would have lost 24-0.
    ………..

It wouldn’t have been that close. Russell would have been sacked 12 times at least and fumbled 3 times or more.

Add in the fact that the team doesn’t play hard for Russell and this would have been a 40 point blowout.

  27. Einstein Says:

We need to just waive JaMarcus NOW and cut our losses. Dude sucks, and he has a brohawk, how lame azz is that.

  28. ENGLANDRAIDER Says:

Seemed like some bad play calling in the first half especially. We came out running well and then stopped. The OL gave Gradowski very little time but the Dallas defense is good.
Defense blew some really big plays.
Cable should stop thinking about replacing JLH on punts and do something about. We actually had Bush back there, what about using McFadden and STOP running McFadden between the tackles.

Someone should also tell our linebackers to stop celebrating a tackle when we’re losing.
We’ve lost too many drives with long passes to DHB. Nice play in the end zone though with the TD.

RaidingTexas, agree on the FA QB, should be some good ones coming out, grad or BRL is not the answer…

We also need to Fire Mr. Davis, and plant C4 in the building and blow it down. Move HQ to plesanton….

  52. priesttj Says:

Grads would’ve been dominant if he was playing highschool kids. He’s short with a weak arm and was in way over his head.

Grads threw a 30 yard pass but it only went 15 yards. WOW, what a QB!! hope he gets a chance vs the Steelers next week we could win…….I hope. Somebody help please!

  53. Thec07 Says:

“IF” we had of build our lines last year when the draft was very deep, we could have taken Dez B with our first pick in next years draft. I dont buy that it takes 3 years to develop a WR junk…. Pay them big money now they should contribute now. Look at crabs, harvin, nicks, britt…DHB was a bad pick period…

  54. priesttj Says:

It’s obvious that the way Cable covers up for DHB that was his pick. DHB is terrible. Kirk Morrison has got to go.. We need a bonfide WR to go with Chaz.

  55. Thec07 Says:

DHB “pro reafdy” thats the BS we swallowed during the draft. crabs is light years ahead of DHB. Dez B as a freshman is better than DHB…

  56. Thec07 Says:

I blame everything on Mr. Davis but cable is a horrible play caller. He has them off balance with a pass on first down, only to come back with a run fargas, and get stop after a 2 yard gain… Cable is a lousy coach.

  57. Thec07 Says:

Who taught this team how to tackle????
The middle is soft because of morrison. We should trade him for whatever we can get. He is the worst MLB in the league period….

  58. Thec07 Says:

    1st MLB
    2nd RT
    3rd DT
    4th RG

Get a vet QB in FA, and let him truly compete for the job.

BRL, needs to come into camp at 250 tops.

  59. manassamauler Says:

gradkowski did as well as could be expected. dallas defense is top 5. gradkowski is a FAR better QB than russell has been. would have been been blown out 45-0 with jabustus in there after his 2 ints, 3 lost fumbles and 7 three and outs. I’d take gradkowski ANY day, at least he manages the game and makes plays when they’re there. raiders have a CHANCE to win with gradkowski.

Defense got gouged bad today though, no reason for that. cowboys played a perfect game.

  60. Thec07 Says:

stay the f away from taylor mays Mr Davis, we have enough safeties…

  61. Thec07 Says:

morrison is a joke…. he gets sucked in and cant shed worth S… He is a scholorship liability…..
In business you mitigate your liabilities… morrison needs to be mitigated….

  62. manassamauler Says:

    2010 draft

1st pick. biggest meanest, most talented OT available.
2nd pick. ANY MLB, somebody that likes to hit people and knows how to play a gap.
34567rounds= MORE offensive linemen and linebackers. linbacker play is killing the defense. replace all of them.

  63. armond Says:

u guys that defend grads are just as bad as u say russell defenders are and probably worse. dude is so limited its ridiculous. yall ready to give up on #@ but want to continue with the shrimp qb.throw away a 60 mil contract for a guy whose lucky to have a job.

  64. armond Says:

priest u may be on to something in regards to cable and dhb. he refuses to sit him down while turnin his back on russell. dhb needs to sit just as much as russell did but captain caveman wont do it. heybey is the worst damn 1rst rnd wr ive ever seen and he might be the worst in this draft right now. he makes no real effort for the ball at all. he doesnt play like 6-2 210 pnd wr. desean jackson plays bigger than he does.

  65. manassamauler Says:

russel has 10 times the talent of gradkowski and yet grad makes more plays!!! grad is WAY MORE accurate than jabustus and is in good shape. russell is physically gifted but very limited upstairs. grad looks like an NFL qb jabustus doesn’t. grads like what 6 1″? cool brees is barely 6 foot. jabustus is the most inaccuarate QB in the nfl. end of story

  66. RAIDERMAN99 Says:

    Same old, same old.

Defense shows some flashes, yet consistently gives up big plays.

Offense can’t get the job done. 7 points just aint gonna cut it.

The offensive woes of the LOWEST scoring team in the NFL continues.

    I’m really not too surprised.

What does surprise me is to see anyone calling for the return of Jamarcus Russell as the Raid’s starting QB.

We’re going to hear the same old nonsense about Russell. We’re going to hear that JR has all the talent and potential in the world, he just has to dedicate himself.

To those of you that still haven’t given up on Russell, I ask what talent does he have ?

    Arm strength is about it.

Besides having a strong arm, JR has minimal talent.

He’s relatively immobile. It’s not that he can’t run, but he has no pocket presence, doesn’t feel or react well to pressure, can’t slip or slide to extend a play. He fumbles too easily as a result of not feeling pressure and failing to secure the football. His delivery is on the slow side.

Russell is horribly innaccurate. Time and again, he has missed wide open receivers. And I’m not talking about narrowly missing. He’s not even in the same time zone on alot of his throws, even when he’s not pressured. He has no touch. He can’t even throw a catchable dump off to running backs.

Russell doesn’t see the field and can’t read a defense.

So again, I ask, what talent has JR exhibited ?

Let’s assume Russell suddenly develops an extreme work ethic and tirelessly dedicates himself to being the best he can be.

It’s possible he might be able to have a better grasp of the playbook and feel for the game. He might be able to better read a defense, maybe even run a no huddle or audible. He might even develop the ability to pump fake or use his eyes to manipulate defenders.

    Possible. But not probable.

Because the truth is, Jamarcus Russell is a certified MORON.

Anyone that’s ever listened to an interview with this buffoon, or read his incomprehensible statements in the press, knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that Russell is a mental midget.

Combine Russell’s mental deficiencies, lack of accuracy, and other previously mentioned shortcomings–and top them off with a questionable work ethic– and you come up with one of the BIGGEST BUSTS IN NFL HISTORY.

And yet, there are still those clamoring for the return of Jamarcus Russell as the Raider’s starting QB and face of the franchise.

These people are out of their minds.

Is Gradkowski the answer ? Probably not.

But I’ll tell you this — Russell is DEFINITELY NOT THE ANSWER.

Yes, the Raider offensive line is crap and the receivers are inexperienced. It would be hard for any QB to have a great degree of success with this supporting cast.

But make no mistake, JR is a turkey. Not the kind of turkey we enjoy on Thanksgiving, but the kind that has no business ever quarterbacking the Raiders again.

    Happy turkey day.

  67. priesttj Says:

The only LB we need is a MLB that can make the rest of them better. It’s like having a bad center with twoo great OT’s and good OG. The bad center can kill the Oline. That’s what’s happening to these LB’s the MLB is suspect. You must be stout up the middle of your defense or else the rest doesn’t matter.

Doesn’t help to have a great runner without a great FB and/or POA hole. It’s like we have one very good WR but no one to really help him. We need a WR who’s better than Chaz. Not worse and your passing game will take off. We have a bunch of kids and it shows. Get a sound Oline and WR’s that can play and Russell can get it done.

come om man. russell hasn’t completed ANY of those long bombs this year man. he hasn’t hit long balls and he misses open receivers 15 feet away.. facts are facts and right now JR is a horrible QB. worst in the NFL. i can name off SEVERAL reasons why hes so bad, but its to easy. just the truth, if russell somehow turned it around he would be recognized, but right now hes the worst QB i can think of. 30 million down the toilet at this point in time.

Grads will make them play Russell again before the year is out. He just can’t get it done at a hig enough level. He has no potential for greatness. Russell has a ton of potential he just needs to realize that.

  81. jhill Says:

    Jamarcus Russell again, huh?

    LMFAO!

When is the obsession going to end? We played a game today and the topic is a guy who didn’t even play?

That was a long ass post 99! You could’ve just stuck with I don’t like the way he talks, and I don’t like him, lol!

At this point, does it really matter? I had fun today watching the game with a house full of Cowboy fans.

TWENTY YARDS PASSING AT THE HALF?????

    45 yds through 3 qtrs???????

This offense was MUCH better last year when we ran the ball 45 times a game and passed it 10 times. LITERALLY!

The bottom line is our gameplan, and everyone associated with it, is flawed!

  82. jhill Says:

Basing ANYTHING on this year at this point, is, well, pointless! Every single aspect of our offense and STs has regeressed.

Gary Russell returning kicks? Our FB???????

    LMFAO!

  83. manassamauler Says:

russell is SLOW! he played in the talent filled SEC which didnt teach him anything about being a QB. all about talent in the SEC. russell is in WAY over his head. and the team doesn’t trust him at all. that is reason enough to ship his ass out.

  84. jhill Says:

What is our plan offensively? Fargas left, Fargas right?

    REALLY!!!!!

The WRs have GOT to get out of their routes faster. The timing is so off with the passing games, it’s crazy. Same misses that we’ve seen all year, and since we have the super accurate Grads in there, can we finally agree that the misses are so bad because the young WRs are not running the routes correctly? DHB is barely turning his head around and the ball is going by him. Same with Murphy. They are both single covered or running through zones, and they are simply not getting their heads around. I just can’t believe that these WRs are being allowed to get the majority of the snaps. This is the kinda shyt that keeps scholarhip conspiracy theories alive and kickin’.

  85. armond Says:

jhill wassuper!!!!!!!!! thats the same thing i thought when i saw g russ back there. i got to the tv late so i thought i was seein sheit but then nope it was g russ back there. genius cable is better off goin back to jlh like he did last year. you are right this whole offense return unit has regressed this year. can we really keep cable after this?

  86. jhill Says:

Someone made a good point about Gallery. Even he has regressed. I think we praised him for something like a ridiculously low 2 penalties last year. Went from worst to first in that department. His penalties are really hurting us this year, and quite frankly he should be one of our bookend frickin OTs.

  87. armond Says:

priest these dummies in here are just fine wastin money instead of allowin russell time to develope. nobody is sayin give him anything without earning it but to throw him away for nada is stupid. they are also stupid enuff to think nobody would give russell a contract if we did let him go.

  88. manassamauler Says:

raiders could win the next 5 games and it would be hard to keep cable, to much negative shiyt of the field. yeah and we need to do something about the oline. next year super mario is gonna want 30 mil, he has that same ahole agent as craptree.

i said russell should stay IF he takes a BIG paycut. russell doesn’t deserve more than the league min. he sure as hell shouldn’t be getting 10 mil a year.

  90. Raider75 Says:

    Don’t worry guys.

Once Charlie Weis is hired as Head Coach Al will make the moves necessary to draft Jimmy Clausen.

  91. jhill Says:

    Happy Gobble Gobble Armond!

I got to listen to all the old school Dallas fans at wifey’s Mom’s house today. The over 55 crowd was all over me. Had to take it out of respect for the elderly, and the fact that we were getting embarrassed.

I just don’t see how anyone can be in here talking about Gradkowski. He was not good at all. And if you don’t think I was sitting there begging for something, ANYTHING to shut those folks up, then you are crazy.

At some point in the game though, I just became jaded at sat there with that loser smirk on my face. I didn’t want to see Russell, I wanted to see a PLAY CALLER change. Russell coming in would have been the same result but with a lot more Russell bashing posting in here, lol.

Let Russell sit the rest of the year and not be tainted anymore by this clown coaching staff. Play Gradkowski who can at least run for his life.

  92. armond Says:

we may actually lose enuff games to have a shot at suh next year. we have to get boldin to help our wr core. picking dhb is gonna hurt us 2 much i fear. he might take longer to develope than we hope and he costs alot. i am really disgusted with our lack of commitment to dmc and bush. all we do is feed fargas early and decoy dmc only to leave bush in the dust. youd think fargas was the #4 pick. cable has got to go.

  93. jhill Says:

Is there ANYONE in here who really thinks that Tom Cable is going to go into Pittsburhg and outcoach Mike Tomlin?

  94. manassamauler Says:

steelers don’t look as good this year. but the raider d would have to PLAY a perfect game for oak to win it.IMO

  95. armond Says:

jhill i agree but i was like damn, just put russ in to atleast make want to watch. grads missed open guys as he usually does, struggled to see over the d, ran up in the pocket a few times without needing to, ran towards a few would be sacks, almost got intercepted, engineered only 7 pts, had 20 yds passing in the 1rst half yada, yada, yada but hey he gave them alot of energy. to the tune of 7 pts. im glad people are getting what they wanted. now theyll see the problem is much bigger than russell tho he is a nice part of it.

  96. DT42 Says:

I think that Russell should finish out the season. Does Grad give this team the best chance to win. Of course he does. But at least it will give the new coach a chance to evaluate him with some extra game film. I think once you lose 8 games then you should start planning for the next season.

My vote for next seasons Head Coach: Marc Trestman.

  97. manassamauler Says:

maybe AD will take another corner with 4.3 speed with the first pick.

  98. manassamauler Says:

my vote for head coach next year would be rich gannon. not kidding.

  99. RAIDERMAN99 Says:

You ask some dumb questions Raiderman99 have you ever heard anyone say Russell is not talented?

Ray Charles can see Russell has unlimited talent. It’s just his application and maturity that they question. If you can’t see the obvious talent it wont do you any good for me to tell you.

Russell highly touted, Grads wasn’t even touted he was a small school hope he can. He’s a backup QB in anyones book. Except the geniuses in here.

    ———————————–

If JR’s ‘talent’ is so obvious, it shouldn’t be hard for you to list a few of these ‘talents’.

Again, I ask you, what talents has Russell exhibited ?

What are these ‘talents’ that Russell possesses ?

I understand Russell was highly touted. That’s why he was the number one pick overall. That’s not news or the question here.

The question is, now that Russell is in his 3rd season with the Raids, and you’ve seen him play, what ‘talents’ has he exhibited that makes you think he’s ever going to pan out ?

Patronize me, because I must be blinder than Ray Charles, I don’t see much talent in Russell besides being able to throw the ball 60 yards on his knees — so please, tell me and the rest of this board, exactly what ‘talents’ you ascribe to Russell.

And J Hill, you’re right, I don’t like Russell or the way he speaks, but that’s not why he SUCKS.

He sucks for all the reasons and shortcomings enumerated in my post.

Priest, again I ask, what ‘talent’ do you see in Russell?

Accuracy, touch, leadership, ability to read a defense ?

Seriously, what the heck do you see ?

  100. armond Says:

hell no cable aint outcoachin tomlin but he will outcoach himself. and why the hell would russell take a paycut? jhill u believe some of these people in here? nobody on this blog would take a paycut for underperforming at their job especially if they signed a garaunteed contract. what the hell kind of sense does that make? its pointless to even argue that. HE just like YALL wont take a needless paycut. GET OVER IT!!

  101. Raider75 Says:

The 2010 Free Agent QBs are nothing special.

    Tavaris Jackson… Jason Campbell … Brodie Croyle…

The Raiders will either be forced back to Russell or will draft another QB.

There will be no Free Agent Savior.

  102. manassamauler Says:

russell has already gotten his 30 mil guaranteed. so IT does makes sense, logically for russell and to most people, for russell to take a HUGE paycut, he should get paid for what hes worth on the field. and that number is low right now. Only logical conclusion

  103. kidseven Says:

So are DMAC and Bush really only average talents, or is it the team? Until recently I was convinced the Raiders have some incredible skill players that just need a chance to shine, but now I’m leaning toward Jerry’s side–maybe the Raiders are simply overmatched in terms of talent. It seems like the playcalling and gameplan are horrible, but if these skill guys were any good we’d break one open occasionally.

And Gary Russell returning kicks was totally embarrassing. Absurd. Makes the coaching staff look absolutely looney. On a team full of sub 4.5 speedsters we send a 240 lb fullback with a beer gut back to return kicks.

  104. ohioraider Says:

Priest you numnuts, what Grad has, what’s been missing from this team since Gannon left, is heart and drive. How much innate talent do you think medium range QBs like Gannon and Stabler had? This guy practices hard and plays his heart out. That’s the only thing this team has going for it near as I can tell. Go kiss Russell’s ass OK?

  105. manassamauler Says:

jason cambell is decent, alex smith will be available too!!! jk that guy is a buster too. maybe oak can get kevin kolb from philly, maybe send a second round pick and the linbackers over there.

  106. jhill Says:

And J Hill, you’re right, I don’t like Russell or the way he speaks, but that’s not why he SUCKS.

    ——————————————————-

I really don’t want to get into a Russell debate with you, because I think he should have been benched for different reasons that you do.

I’ll just say this. I don’t recall ANYONE saying Russell should go based on the way he finished last year. That Houston game followed up by the Tampa game was just what everyone wanted to see. Even the 3 or 4 games before that, NO ONE was talking shyt about Russell.

Now 8 games into a season that EVERYONE agrees included 2 WRs that should not be playing, a coach and OC that was not qualified for the job and insists on calling plays, a 3rd string RB getting the bulk of the carries, and a patchwork Oline …. You want to cut the QB who is only 24 years old with less than 2 season as a starter?

Cmon! That’s simply because you don’t like him.

And it’s cool. You are entitled to your opinion.

  107. manassamauler Says:

i think DMAC will be a great RB. he has the talent and made some plays today, 2-3 catches. lot of people in here rag on dmac but he’s be the RB of the future.

  108. armond Says:

raiderman ill entertain that question and it includes last year as well. he can throw on the run pretty well and when he decides to run he actually gets yards. he has shown some touch but he can get better. those throws to dhb and murphy back to back were beautiful. the tds against houston to chaz and jlh last year showed touch. his prettiest pass was the week before when he threw a fade to curry against the pats. he has made some plays to help win us games late in the game against the jets and buccs last year, sd and kc this year. he isnt a whiner and throws those dumpoffs better than he has gotten credit for. throwing to miller and chaz arent his problems but to dhb and murph it is. he built a connection with jlh last year but cable put those two rooks out there and everything has gone to sheit. he has his problems and he needs to fix them but grads is not making the offense much better.

  109. Raider75 Says:

    Kid…

Backs will never shine with no passing game and horrible O-line.

The Raiders have got a few decent young guys on the D-line the last few years, but the O-line has been neglected and is really the root of the offensive woes.

  110. DT42 Says:

The thing about JRuss is that he was in Jimbo Fishers offense at LSU. They ran the same basic concepts that most NFL teams run. Mesh, Smash, Stick, Spacing etc. And they ran it out of multiple formations. So your telling me that in 2 years he forgot EVERYTHING?? Doesn’t make any sense. He’s been around this stuff for years. You don’t just stop knowing it. I hope that in the off-season he takes the opportunity to get back into shape and find his passion for the sport. The Raiders should draft a qb in later rounds (Sam Bradford in the 2nd round) and give JRuss one more season to get it right. That would also give Bradford a chance to be completely healed from his shoulder injury and get used to the pros.

hey kid its funny because fargas has been shining just fine. raiders oline is actually a lot better at run blocking. u have to watch games to see that. raiders need offensive tackles!!!! run blocking has been a lot better than pass protection. raider running backs have been the ONLY offensive players to shine at all over the last 3 years.

  114. manassamauler Says:

raiders shouldn’t draft any QBs period. get some nfl caliber offensive tackles first.

  115. kidseven Says:

I’ll tell you what I think Russell does well and what his talents appear to be:

    1. Strong arm.
    2. A pretty good medium range passer when he’s on (which is all too rare) because he can fire a 40-yard bullet.
    3. Reasonably tough.
    4. Deceptively decent scrambler.
    5. Keeps his cool.

Unfortunately he’s also horribly inaccurate, isn’t nearly motivated enough (proven by numerous actions), he weighs too much, doesn’t have a good feel for pressure, poor ball security, below average clock management, doesn’t read defenses well at all, doesn’t appear to inspire teammates much.

Seems to me he’ll need another couple of years–if he works hard–to become an average QB.

  116. jhill Says:

You can put it on Russell all you want, but it should be clear as day that NO qb can get it done in this offense with these group of WRs. It’s just NOT going to happen. 300 yd passing day? You can forget about that! Chaz is a possesion WR at 75%. No more, no less. And did you see them take Miller out of the game today?
It’s not that hard to figure out our offense guys. Take Miller away, and see if the WRs can beat you.

  117. armond Says:

dt42 i doubt we take a qb that high and bradford might go in the 1rst rnd still some say. u are right about him at lsu and he needs to get back to that weight he was when there. 255lbs might be good so we can take advantage of his mobility . he can rollout much better than given credit for. he has been screwed up by the system and changes we had since he has been here. he and the raiders need to get their act together.

  126. aig Says:

Our WR’s were open today. The problem is with Cable’s playcalling and the Oline. Our Oline didnt had a hard time holding up. Moreover, Dallas found Grad’s weakness. That is crowd him, dont let him get out and dont giving him passing lanes. Grad is short and he missed a lot of throws in the first half with our receivers open because he was pressured and had no throwing lanes.

Cable should have rolled him out. What’s the use of having a mobile qb if you gonna keep him in the pocket. Cable is finally taking advantage of mcFadden in the slot. Now if he can roll out Grad when our lines is not holding up, then we’ll be fine.

  127. aig Says:

I meant our Oline had a hardtime holding up.

  128. aig Says:

oh and on top of that, we were running the ball just fine in the first half and we hardly bothered with a playaction. Terrible gameplan by Cable again. If Al keeps him another year, he better force him to give up playcalling.

OK, this is a reasonable answer. You’ve seen a handfull of passes, mostly at the end of last year, and a very few passes this year that impressed you.

You think Russell runs pretty well and throws accurately on the move.

    Fine, I don’t disagree.

But an occasional nice pass and being semi-mobile and more accurate on the move then when in the pocket doesn’t even come close to making me think Russell is going to be a franchise QB.

Sorry, but I’ve seen WAY too many horrible passes that convince me Russell isn’t even remotely close to having the consistent accuracy necessary to succeed.

And again, I reiterate, Russell is a moron.

No, not because of his southern drawl or his mohawk or his wearing dumbass ski hats on warm sunny days.

Russell is a certified moron because of his incoherent, incomprehensible speech and quotes.

There’s just no way an idiot like Russell that couldn’t consistently hit water if he fell out of a boat is ever going to be a prime time NFL QB.

Yeah, he was highly touted and supposedly he’s highly talented.

But honestly, I don’t see the talent. I see a strong arm but that’s about it. I don’t see the accuracy or any of the other intangibles that make a QB great.

I hope I’m wrong, because the thought of watching Russell QB the Raids and playing like he did this season makes me want to puke.

  137. priesttj Says:

For some reason. They see some great potential in playing Gradkowski. But I’ll gaurantee you Mr Davis is not ammused. Grads wont get away with another half that looks anything like that. he’ll be pulling splinters out of his rear for the next 10 years.

I’ll answer you Raiderman99. When I first saw Russell the first thing I notced was how well he threw on the run and his arm strength. He made some unbelieveable throws. Most were out of the pocket and on the run. Throwing bullets between defenders. Russell is struggling more with his confidence than he is with his accuracy. I say that because he throws the ball accurately to the HB’s and TE’s look at his stats.

When Chaz and JLH were starting he wasn’t deadly accurate but got the ball to them. And most of the time they caught it. Go back and look at those games last year completely different QB totaly.

His presence in the pocket was exceptional when he was confident. His ability to see the field was exceptinal when he was confident. His ability to hit his recievers in stide was exceptional when he was confident. his leadership skills were exceptional when he was confident. He brought LSU from behind t win 8 games in 29 starts. He brought the Raiders from behind to win games 3 times last year and this year The Jets the Bucs and KC and we should have beaten SD.

We would’ve beaten KC if DHB doesn’t drop his TD pass with him as a starter. What you’ve seen with Russell is a very young QB srtuggling with his confidence more than anything else. Yes no question he needs to put mor work everybody knows that.

But if you innumerate everything you look for in a QB before you draft him Russell showed that before he was drafted. Leadership wasn’t even a question. You may have question his maturity to some extent but how long des that last eventually he’ll mature. All the other attributes were there.

Leadership, competitiveness, accuracy, makes all the throws has command in the huddle. The tougher the situations the more he competes. He did that with us. This year he lifted this team to a go ahead TD late in the SD gamea also in the KC game.

As I said his biggest problem right now is his confidence in the players around him. If he were more confident you’d see a lot more accurate QB. A lot more you’d see what you saw last year even more.

Get Russell 3 good WR’s to go with that TE and a running game and then I’ll take anything he turns out to be.

  138. new englandraider Says:

    priest very nice post

  139. priesttj Says:

I would venture a guess that maybe 50% of Russell’s t/’s are really his fault but no one goes to bat for him like they do for Manning and Brady and any of the other QB’s. Everything that goes wrong with the Raiders is Russell’s fault. I saw Grads throw into coverage today and overthrow wideopen players in the 1st half with no pressure at all.

But everyone lies and says he didn’t have time. He had plaenty of time. He just played terrible. If it’s Russell everything would’ve been blamed on him no time would not matter. Grads fumbled twice but no one a cares because he has pocket presence. lol Yeah right!
