How many games did we waste with the russell to dhb connection man amazing how much better we look without these 2.
December 8th, 2009 at 11:40 am
Jerry should ask why they persist with playing DMac at RB when it’s obvious that he’s not a run between the tackles type athlete. Rather, he should further query “why not try DMac at Slot WR running crossing patterns against LB’s & safeties in addition to making him available for reverses”. Getting DMac the ball in the open is the only way of making him make a difference. He’s simply NOT an NFL caliber RB.
There is history here to be considered. Todd Christensen was a mediocre RE, actually, a FB. They moved him to tight end because he had great hands and Voilla, a Raider legend TE was created. DMac, IMO, could be a great slot receiver. If someone would only try him thefe they might be pleasantly surprised.
December 8th, 2009 at 11:46 am
Why not use Dmac like Harvin put him all over wr,rb,kr,pr I do love when they line him and fargas together in backfield than split him out and either throw it or run with fargas.
December 8th, 2009 at 11:49 am
Yeah, I agree. He should be used like Harvin. Find some packages for him.

I agree. I had left out the KR & PR options but that was my omission. I have earlier said he should be a KR minimally. Let’s get some value out of him. The RB position is NOT his forte.

Why is it so obvious to most posters here (i.e. DMac as a receiver/returner) and yet none of the coaches can see it? Is this an AD says so that’s the way it is? Must be! I’d think Cable would want to get DMac productive any way he could. Go figure.

It’s a great week to be a Raiders fan. Isn’t it?
Kirk, faithful fan — I must respectfully disagree with you and our friend Fla Pete (and others who feel the same about it):
Kirk Says:
Crabtree is already doing well with the 49ers. I looked at 10 minutes of film and could tell he would be a better receiver than DHB.
There’s a difference between quickness and speed, Al!
—————————-
Actually, Kirk — Did you see Crabtree DUCK with his aligator arms in the Seattle game? Amazingly chicken move by such a huge ego.
But back to the subject at hand…
…anybody who says they already know that DHB is now/or is going to be a bust isn’t taking NFL history into account. Some of the league’s best-ever receivers took a few years to produce at peak levels.
More is expected of DHB, than any other WR in the league — and that’s not only because he was the first WR drafted…it’s because the Raiders needed him to produce right now, and we all know that didn’t happen.
NO team should have to require a rookie WR to be their answer immediately. If Schilens, JLH, and the infamous Javon Walker were playing, and playing at a top level…we’d all be happy to wait for the kid to make his debut in small increments, or next year even. I say lighten up on the rookie.
Take a look at the N.O. Saints’ WR Meachem…that kid couldn’t catch a cold his first year, was in the dog house for immaturity…now, he’s making explosive plays all over the field for one of the league’s best teams.
DHB’s hands remind me of the future HOF’er T.O.’s oft-times clanky hands. If and when DHB gains the confidence that only comes with GOOD repetitions, he will come into his own. Be glad DHB is already more mature than either Crabtree or T.O.!
Celebrate what we see in Murphy so far…but don’t take anything away from DHB for being right where he (historically-speaking) should be, in terms of development.
December 8th, 2009 at 12:56 pm
that shouldnt matter because he was drunk in the huddle =) nice!

[Comment From lebrone lebrone : ]
Darren Mc Fadden has not worked out as a running back between the tackles in the NFL. Do you think he would be better suited as a slot receiver similar to Wes Welker or Percy Harvin? He seems to work better in space.
Tuesday December 8, 2009 12:42 lebrone
12:43 jerrymac: It could get to that point, although I don’t think they’re there yet. Don’t think they want to concede they paid 25.5 million for a slot receiver. But you see Favre throw these quick throws to the slot receiver (Harvin) and wonder why we NEVER see anything like that with McFadden.

[Comment From LosAngelesRaider LosAngelesRaider : ]
We’ve heard in the past about some Raider players not caring about winning and losing. Though Thomas Howard seems to play hard every week, he’s celebrated tackles during lopsided losses. Could he be one of the players referred to as laughing it up in the locker room after a loss?
Tuesday December 8, 2009 12:47 LosAngelesRaider
12:48 jerrymac: Haven’t seen a lot of locker room laughing after losses this year, like last year vs. SD . . . I don’t have any problem with Howard’s level of enthusiasm . . . just sometimes he’s not stout against the run and he’s not making plays against the pass as he’s done in the past.

[Comment From EMC EMC : ]
Awesome game this week, my hat goes off to Grad and Murph. We all know Davis will not part ways with Russell. Is it possible they restructure Russells contract and have open competition in the preseason at the qb spot?
Tuesday December 8, 2009 12:52 EMC
12:53 jerrymac: For those who want Russell gone, that could be the way out. Because all he has to do is say no if approached, and Davis has his justification for cutting him.
December 8th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
[Comment From It WAS a fumble It WAS a fumble : ]
Long time reader, first time poster. Great work, Jerry. How much of the Raiders’ woes do you think can actually be attributed to Al Davis’ meddling instead of other factors? I mean things like the offensive/defensive philosophies, insistence on playing his top picks, etc.
Tuesday December 8, 2009 1:00 It WAS a fumble
1:02 jerrymac: I prefer to look at it this way _ you’ll never hear me use the word “meddle” because you’re not meddling when it’s YOUR team. It can work with a coach who knows how to deal with him, lobby for what he wants, and make his case. So long as Davis knows how to pick a guy that will do that successfully, and not someone who folds, spindles and mutilates under pressure (or just rebels, like Lance). People in the building think Cable is the best guy at dealing with Davis since Gruden. Whether he’s a good enough coach to fight for the right players and the right things, time will tell.

Been saying this since week 3. They need to use DMC and DHB like how Harvin is used in Minny.
The coaching staff just doesn’t get it are slow to learn things.
It took them forever to finally use T Scott they he should haev been used from the very beginning of the season. Grads should have replaced Russell in Week 4 for crying out loud!

I’m right here. DMAC had turf toe last year and missed at least 8 games due to the painful injury and this year he missed 5 games due to a meniscus tear in his knee, He still at times but getting better has difficulty picking up a blitz and has been utilized incorrectly in this offense.

How did the wine soaked wood chips work out for you on Thanksgiving? I never heard.
I assume that you were talking about green chips because I think that regular chips would burn too fast soaked in wine. I could be wrong.
Regarding DMac, he has been frustrating me lately. I have never seen someone run so hard only to get 1 yard. I know that he is uber talented, he just needs to be put in open space in order to do what he does best. So I guess what I am saying is that I agree with you

The wine chips given to me from a vendor, came from the hills of Pensylvania. I was told the chips had been soaked in wine and try them out. The chips seem to add a lot of flavor to the brisket I had cooked.
My son, home from college, had unexpectedly invited some of his buds over, and they brought their girlfriends also. I then had to cook some tri-tip to supplement the added number of people. I was told the brisket was killer and the tri-tip was gone.
I will try to find out, what were the exact chips and the location where to purchase them. My vendor will be in the office in January. I would love to tell you, the bag was just a zip lock bag with the chips inside.
DMAC has been injured for 13 games and the Raiders up to this time have played 28 games. He has been in 15 games as played. Not even yet a season in the NFL.
My dissapointment is his lack of vision. I would have thought he would be better, in reading where to run, in the gaps as they open.

I have a buddy that smokes all his meats with green chips, swears by them. They certainly create A LOT more smoke than your average wood chips with the moisture that is still in them. Also his meat tastes a bit different than you average smoked meats. Not bad at all. That’s why I was curious about Dell.
December 8th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
Dell
So did the chips burn faster than normal or did they allow you to cook your brisket at the same rate as normal?
Man, I bet that tri-tip was amazing. I like your style man.
December 8th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
I have a minor detail left. The chips were in a Hefty zip lock bag and the bag was a 2.5 gallon bag. There were enough to smoke the meat.
December 8th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
The chips burned well.I never timed the amount of use, just added when, I needed to. The brisket took a little longer than I’m use to.
December 8th, 2009 at 1:56 pm
we also smoke a lot of kills and I never had wine in any chip so I am interested also

My best guess would be to move DMAC around to the slot as a WR, as a QB in the wildcat or hogg whatever they call the formation. I would also utilize his speed in sweeps and in general keep him on the edges in the offense we currently have. Let Bush and Fargas run between the tackles.

Lakers Win 33 in a Row
The Los Angeles Lakers weren’t getting any younger as they entered the 1971-72 season. Wilt Chamberlain was 35, Jerry West 33. Team captain Elgin Baylor, 37, would be forced to retire eight games into the season because of bad knees.
By beating the Hawks on January 7, 1972, Jerry West and the Lakers set an NBA record for most consecutive wins with 33.
But new coach Bill Sharman made several key moves to invigorate the Lakers. He inserted Gail Goodrich into the starting lineup to take some of the scoring load off West and allow him to concentrate on playmaking, and convinced Chamberlain to focus on playing defense and setting up his teammates, rather than scoring. With young Jim McMillian stepping into Baylor’s forward spot opposite rebounder Happy Hairston, the Lakers got hot early-and stayed hot.
On Nov. 5, 1971 they beat the Baltimore Bullets 110-106, and they did not lose a game for more than two months. On Dec. 12 they beat Atlanta 104-95 for their 21st in a row, breaking the NBA record of 20 set by Milwaukee a year earlier. On Dec. 22 they beat the Bullets 127-120 to make it 27 in a row, surpassing the longest winning steak in major league sports, 26 games by baseball’s 1916 New York Giants. They extended their streak to 33 consecutive wins by beating the Hawks 134-90 on Jan. 7, 1972, before finally losing to the Bucks 120-104 two nights later.
“We knew it had to end sometime. I would trade all the records for a championship,” declared Sharman. No such deal was necessary-the Lakers finished the season at 69-13, at the time an NBA record, and won the championship by beating New York in five games in the NBA Finals. The 1972 crown was the Lakers’ first since the franchise moved from Minneapolis to Los Angeles in 1960.

On a semi-relevant note. If my life was on the line and I needed one person to literally make a do or die free throw, I’d call Ted Nugent and Ted Nugent only.

Gradkowski named AFC offensive player of the week
December 8th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
Not long ago it would have seemed unthinkable that an Oakland Raiders quarterback could be named AFC offensive player of the week.
But not long ago, the Oakland Raiders’ quarterback was JaMarcus Russell.
Now the Raiders’ quarterback is Bruce Gradkowski, and today he was named AFC offensive player of the week for his 20-of-33, 308-yards, three-touchdown effort against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Gradkowski became the first Raiders quarterback since Ken Stabler in 1979 to throw three touchdown passes in the fourth quarter, and he completed five passes during the game-winning drive, culminating in a touchdown toss to Louis Murphy.
