Gradkowski thriving in chaos
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Saturday, December 12th, 2009 at 11:20 am in Oakland Raiders.
The best thing about Bruce Gradkowski so far is he has a flair for the dramatic.
Based on his admittedly small body of work as the Raiders quarterback, Gradkowski’s track record says that if the Raiders are within a touchdown and get the ball back in their own territory at around the 2-minute mark, the Washington Redskins ought to start worrying.
“I love the end of games,” Gradkowski said. “The two minute drill is a good time to spread the offense out and move the football. It’s a fun time. It comes down to to the end, where you’ve got to get a couple of points on the board or score a touchdown to win, and it’s exciting.”
In fact, Gradkowski’s work in the last two minutes in three of the last four games might be the most exciting thing about Raiders football this season.
In a 16-10 loss to the Chiefs, Gradkowski and the Raiders took over at the 20-yard line with 1:53 to play. Completing three passes for 55 yards and adding a 9-yard scramble, Oakland drove into Kansas City territory only to have a pass bounce off the hands of Darrius Heyward-Bey and to the Chiefs Mike Brown for an interception at the 16-yard line.
The following week in a start against the Bengals, Gradkowski drove the Raiders 80 yards in 10 plays, completing 5 of 9 passes for 79 yards, finishing it off with a 29-yard scoring pass to Louis Murphy. The Raiders took over at the 20 with 2:12 left, scored with 27 seconds to play and won when Brandon Myers stripped and and recovered an Andre Caldwell fumble in the ensuing kickoff.
Gradkowski was 5 of 9 for 79 yards, including a fourth-and-10 strike to Chaz Schilens for 16 yards to the Bengals 29.
Against the Steelers last week, with the Raiders backed up at their own 12 with 1:56 left, Gradkowski was 4 of 9 for 63 yards and an 11-yard scoring strike to Murphy.
As unlucky as Gradkowski was against the Chiefs, with the Brown interception, he was fortunate against the Chiefs, with Joe Burnett dropping an interception.
In all, the three drives encompassed 232 yards on 27 plays. Gradkowski was 12 of 22 for 197 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, a quarterback rating of 92.1.
During his nine games as a starter, JaMarcus Russell converted one game-winning drive in the final two minutes, a 69-yard, nine-play drive against the Chiefs in Week 2 for a 13-10 win.
While it’s impossible to know if Gradkowski will end up as someone’s backup or become a viable NFL starter, the ability to produce in the two-minuted drill is a hugely valuable skill that doesn’t come easily.
“Every team’s got a two-minute plan, but Bruce has such command of where he’s going with the ball,” coach Tom Cable said. “If you change rotation or the coverage on him, the pressure, he’s got a great brain. He understands what’s got to happen. His anticipation, his instincts in it, are outstanding, probably a gift, and he runs the play like you ask him to. He’s exceptional at it.”
Added passing game coordinator Ted Tollner: “When you do that once, you get excited about it, and when you do it again, you build a reputation that you can. At this point he’s thrived in that situation and he’s made plays that’s given us a chance to win a couple of games.”
Which begs the question . . . if Gradkowski is so good at it, why wait until the last two minutes?
Go out and set the tempo with a no-huddle offense as an element of surprise in the middle of a quarter and put Gradkowski in situations which accentuate his strengths.
“I would love to to a two-minute drill just in a normal part of the game,” Gradkowski said. “that’s something you can evolve to. Peyton Manning does it a lot, but that’s something that comes with experience and the coaches’ trust, and as of right now, we’re just going to run our offense and hopefully I can prove to coach what I can do and that trust will grow.”
Cable isn’t about to tip off anyone as to when the Raiders might spring a hurry-up on an opponent but conceded, “That would be a valuable weapon for us, yes.”
TOYS FOR TOTS
New, unwrapped toys will be accepted for the Toys for Tots program at the Redskins game Sunday. Marines will be stationed at the West Side Plaza, near the BART entrance, and at Gates A, B, C and D before and after the game. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
Defensive end Richard Seymour, cornerback Chris Johnson and Hall of Famer and assistant coach Willie Brown will sign autographs in exchanged for new, unwrapped toys valued at $20 or more at the Southland Mall Raider Image store in hayward on Monday, Dec. 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

December 12th, 2009 at 11:48 am
there is now way Russell should be GIVEN anything from here on out. But this the crazy old man we are talking about. There is no LOGIC with him. Just bizarre weirdness!
Russell needs to show up to camp 15-20 pounds lighter and in the best shape of his life, along with restructuring down his undeserving contract to be given even a half a CHANCE to be the starter next year IMO.
Not a fan of signing Pennington. I would rather see them sign Vick for cheap money or trade for Kolb IF they can!
December 12th, 2009 at 11:49 am
I hope Gradkowski keeps playing well enough so they can cut Ja-blubber and go after a real veteran QB.

Let’s get this done tomorrow…

December 12th, 2009 at 11:51 am
It makes ZERO sense to be paying Russell the amount of money he is being paid to buy his bling and be lazy and unproductive.
The looney old man better restructure down that freakin contract if he knows whats good for him, the team and whole dysfuntional organization in general! LOL
Then again, this is the old delusional stubborn evil emperor old man we are talking about.
Logical and reasonable decision making is NOT in his vocabulary and is thrown out the freakin window! haha
The old looney brought back his #1 lapdog Hanson for cryin out loud to be part of the dysfuntional crackhead “personnel department”??
How looney is that??
Let me guess…..because Hanson is “loyal” and is Davis’ #1 lapdog?
December 12th, 2009 at 11:55 am
Loony old man is starting Russell next year. Guaranteed. Loony people don’t just stop being loony. When have you ever seen it in your personal life? Doesn’t happen with rich people, either.

If that DB picks that pass off and we lose the what is Grads? Grads is a good player who could get better but e don’t know until DC’s get a book n him and he succeeds anyway. The kid has been lucky and good so far. But you idoits putting him on a pedestal will turn on him if he loses one game.
All you gutless pieces of crap don’t know squat. Let the kid grow and get better before we anoint him the Messiah. naybe you won’t be as disappointed. The kid hasn’t done anything yet. Pittsburgh is terrible. He’s playing two very good defenses in the next two weeks you’ll see what he can cannot do. I like the kid but he really has done a whole lot yet. Outside of being good and a little lucky. this is the NFL and they eat guy’s like Grads for lunch.

ESPN reported yesterday that Philly will trade Vick after the season.
How bout Loose Bruce.
December 12th, 2009 at 12:32 pm
I would love to get Vick I know that guy can handle whatever the NFL throws at him. He’ a winner and a pro-bowler not some hope and wannabe. You dumbells in here don’t know your ass from a hole in the ground and are always running your mouth about what you don’t know.
December 12th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
If Defensive coordinators have not keyed on Bruce since he’s been the starter, then who in the hell on our offense have they been trying to stop?
What the hell we got on offense, that has been prepared all week by Tom Cable, that causes concern for any DC on our schedule?

^^^^^^^^
Men cheat, women cheat, animals cheat…..but the difference is Tigger has been glorified so freakin much in the sports media that he can do no wrong…..even though he has just proved to EVERYONE that the image he has built that was force fed to the public is an utter lie and that he is a FRAUD. I hope when he comes back, the hecklers talk so crap to him and his punk caddie! He deserves it….
Tigger has some SERIOUS problems…..trying to pay off his wife and renew the prenup and try and buyout adultery?

Like hearing this from Grads. This team has needed to run the no huddle from time years ago and didn’t do it under Russell.
Running the no huddle from time to time catches defenses off guard and keeps them off balance……just like running the WildCat from time to time would.
Cable, Tollner and Hackett just are to slow or afraid to implement it…..the Wildcat especially when they have one of the best WildCat backs of all time on their roster with DMC. Get DMC and Bush on the field at the same time and run the WildCat to keep teams off balance like what Miami did earlier this year.
It works!

Inside scoop from the N.O.
Reggie Bush is on the way out. He was approached by team to accept a pay cut. He and his agent are chewing on it. Likely result will be a trade.
The Saints are preparing to make Drew Brees the 3rd highest paid QB in the League.

December 12th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
Priest,
Vick ?????
Why not just stick with Grads? He’s mobile enough and is probably more accurate than Vick. Vick is faster and has a bigger arm, but we really don’t need that with this WCO. A lot of those picks that Grads almost threw were due to the rookie WRs. Last week, Murphy didn’t adjust the route and thank GOD the DB dropped it. A lot of the same problems Russell was complaining about. Let’s just stick with the 3 QBs we have and let it sort itself out. We need to focus on other areas of the team instead of all this QB drama.
December 12th, 2009 at 12:53 pm

Just like Mrs Bryant, Mrs Woods will be “taken care of” and Woods will be back kicking major ass. It’s not like the fans can heckle him, and we already see them begging him to come back for the golf ratings, lol. The ass kissing will continue.
December 12th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
More scoop from the N.O.
Reggie Bush is as lazy as JaMarcus. He just doesn’t eat as much. He only goes to work the required times and does not spend extra time working on his game, lifting weights, or watching film. His head is still in Hollywood and up Kim K’s donk.
We don’t hear much about this in the media because Reggie is not the QB (Like Jerry said about the position).
Bush is 3rd string behind an undrafted free agent(Pierre Thomas) and a guy that was out of football last year (Mike Bell).

And I wouldn’t mind Vick, BTW, but let’s be realistic here.
December 12th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
DKnight, ESPN, at this point, shouldn’t be concerned about Woods or Cable, other than the fact that Woods has temporarily retired, or whatever. Because that obviously is sports related. But if ESPN had any integrity, they would avoid the he said she said surrounding the affairs. But they won’t, because they don’t. I’m no fan of ESPN. Just watch for the headlines. But I think Cable’s behavior is far more serious, and is definitely everyone’s business because hitting people is a crime. What Tiger did is between him, the woman he did it with, and his wife. No crime has been committed.
December 12th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
What he has at home obviously got old, Vegas. The reason he plays the field of skinny white girls is because that’s what’s available to him. The groupies throwing themselves at him are skinny white girls.

Owners and management sure are overapid…..especially when they do a crappy job and make stupid decisions. Kinda like Al Davis and his cronies.
December 12th, 2009 at 1:58 pm
DKnight, it’s not your business because the news reports it. It’s your business because it concerns you. It provokes feelings in you. Why? Why are you concerned with a pro golfer having unprotected, consensual sex? What effect does that have on your life?

Every team’s got a two-minute plan, but Bruce has such command of where he’s going with the ball,” coach Tom Cable said. “If you change rotation or the coverage on him, the pressure, he’s got a great brain. Knight, you said that Tiger having unprotected sex is worse than what Cable did. That’s the point I’m addressing. Sure, if something’s in the news, it’s fair game. But you’ve gone farther than merely discussing it. You’ve insinuated that adults having extramarital, consensual, unprotected sex is worse than a man hitting a woman, as long as the physical abuse took place years ago. Why do you believe this?
December 12th, 2009 at 2:04 pm
Bruce the next scapegoat.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
So in trying to drum up a parallel for Al potentially admitting he was wrong and either restructing or cutting Russell, I look at Jovan Walker.
Obviously Al is mostly behind Walker being banished this year, and I am sure he will cut him next offseason. By not playing him, it is making Al look completely stupid in his signing of him.
Al has basically through his actions, admitted that mistake and is moving on.
One can only hope he repeats that this offseason.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Gradkowski sucks.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:07 pm
Vegas, how do you know what Al is or isn’t behind?
December 12th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
I don’t know, it’s called hypothesizing and opinions. Isn’t that what we do in here?
December 12th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
No, that’s not what you did. You insisted Al was behind Walker being “banished”. How do you know?
December 12th, 2009 at 2:10 pm

December 12th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
I’m just hypothesizing and giving my opinion. My opinion is that Gradkowski sucks. But are you just going to post all kinds of comments insinuating what or what not Al Davis was behind, as if you know?
December 12th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
Your opinions suck
December 12th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
Gradkwoski hasn’t impressed me yet. Steelers defense isn’t that good. They started off strong this year but injuries have killed them. I’ll give Gradkowski credit in being able to read coverages better than Russell, but that’s it. He’s not the answer.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
In my opinion
December 12th, 2009 at 2:13 pm
And your assumptions about Al Davis are asinine. How do you know Davis has changed his mind on Walker? Did he tell you?

December 12th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
As far as you know, it could be Cable lobbying to Al to get rid of Walker. And Al might just get rid of Cable and start Russell and Walker next year. But go ahead, tell us what you “know”, Mr, insider. LOL.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Factually speaking Dallas, Cincy and Pittsbugh are all upper-half defenses, and I think all 3 are in the top 10.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:16 pm
If Al wanted Walker to play, he would play.
Agree??
December 12th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
I’ll bet you Walker’s “offer” to give the money back to Al was more of a threat. I’ll bet you that conversation between him and Al was heated. Walker was probably a pawn in Al’s war with Kiffin, and Walker probably told Al to shove his money you know where, and that he was leaving. The Raiders then tell the press that Walker humbly offered to return the money and Al talked him out of it. Sure . More like, Walker was about to step, and Al promised him that Kiffin would be gone and he would be the man. Anyhow, that’s my theory. I’ll also bet that Walker will be back next year, and Russell, and they’ll both start.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
No, I don’t agree. That’s not always how it works. From what I’ve read about Al, many times he’ll play possum and let the coach make his decisions, then find ways to sabotage that coach.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:23 pm

Priesttj,
I am really surprised by your recent rhetoric against Gradkowski. I usually see you as too much of a sun is shining guy…but you are definitely a Raider fan.
Your disagreement with Gradkowski’s success so far is a little out of character.
Gradkowski may or may not be the guy…but hell, he’s producing right now. And that’s what this team needs.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
Jovan is toast, and Jamarcus has one-season left to turn things around, not just in football but in life.
If Al doesn’t use the leverage of Russell’s pathetic on-the-field performance and the uncapped year to restructure, than there is no hope for Al. It is a slam-dunk, the team has proven (at least through 3 games) they are better off without him.
Russell’s agent knows Russell isn’t getting any big money if he gets cut, the offers will be few and far between. If Al approaches the Russell team with a take a paycut or take a hike approach (even if it just postering) they would be foolish not to do it.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
4eva,
You know deep down in the depths of your soul that MR brings up a possiblity….that Russell is granted the job next year by Al Davis.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
4eva,
I think Cable has more lee-way than recent hires, but if Al wanted Jovan to play, he would at least be active for the games and see the field. He might not start, but he wouldn’t be inactive.
Isn’t that kind of the way it has always been?
December 12th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
It is very possible that Al would saddle either Cable or the next coach with Russell next year. We will no simply by whether they attempt to re-sign Bruce.
If Russell is the QB we don’t win 3 games next year.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
But Bruce will have us competing for the division.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
My position is that Gradkowski should be given some tough competition in training camp next year. And that competition is not going to come from Russell.
So go sign a veteran QB in the offseason that is agreeable to the WCO.
I would not just hand the keys to Gradkowski regardless of how this season ends
December 12th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
I bet the gate is over 40K tomorrow, even with the weather.
Bruce gives a reason to come out and watch. See if it is for real, or fools gold.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Vegas,
Gradkowski / Russell situation is the potential last straw for a lot of these RAider fans.
If Russell starts…some of the Davis loyals are sure to become apoplectic
December 12th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
Jovan Walker is in Al’s doghouse for some reason. JR’s recent interview shows the kind of character he has. I mean the guy has thrown 2 tds in nine starts. He does not see something wrong with that? Seriously?Gradkowski throws three in a quarter. I do not want to hear about weak defenses because Russell faced some weak defenses and still could not produce. You have to want it at the NFL level and the only thing Russell wants is a cheeseburger and fries.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:40 pm
SnB,
Bruce pushes himself, he is a self-starter.
He doesn’t need someone nipping at his heels to motivate him to get better.
With any available vet, you don’t know what you are going to get. At least we have somewhat of an idea, and will have a much better idea at the end of the year.
Give him a couple of years and see what happens. Frye, Bruce and another vet as 3rd string or a rookie 3rd or 4th rounder should work.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
If Russell is named the starter I will not renew my tickets next year.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:41 pm
If the coaches and the owner knew that Russell was so far behind…then they should have started Gradkowski or Garcia earlier.
In my honest opinion, the Raiders threw the season away! They could have contended.

Sure SnB….but by being a lifelong Raider I realise anything is possible. And lets say Grads wins out.Does that assure him of being the Man at next camp.IMO no it does not.As I’ve stated….jmac is OVERWHELMED.By benching him Cable saved hie career, imo. He is and was not ready. Can he redeem himself???? Maybe but its up 2 his teammates at this point ,imo
December 12th, 2009 at 2:43 pm
Garcia left because he already knew what we found out 3-4 games in. Russell is a truck.
December 12th, 2009 at 2:45 pm
Vegas,
I like what Gradkowski is doing. But I’ve seen other “backups” come in and run off a streak like this. Then when these opposing DCs get some tape, they gameplan them to exploit their weaknesses and …well back to square 1.
All I am saying is bring in some credible competition in the offseason. It will keep Gradkowski on his toes and give us a nice backup plan.
Hell, even Michael Vick might be good to bring in. He’s more mature and has been well schooled in the WCO in Philly. Not too mention he played for Cable.
I am all about competition Vegas. Let the best man win.
Now, given the Raider organization and the way they make decisions….I can see why one would be hesitant to do anything that derails Gradkowski
December 12th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
4eva,
I want the guy in there that’s going to win games. This losing is for the birds.
But you and others are investing a lot in Gradkowski early…and you should prep yourself just in case Davis wants to give his investment another shot.
Personally, I would just cut Russell and move on with Gradkowski and a veteran to compete.
But you know the Raiders….
ALl I am saying, is prep yourself for the worst and hope for the best.
This is Al Davis’ team and he will ultimately do what he thinks is best……

Exactly!!! In a perfect world, absolutetly, competition is best. Under just about every other walk of like, I am all for competition.
But the Raiders are such a mess, Bruce has something somewhat going on here, and I would like them to embrace it and try to build around it. If it flames out, so what? We lose 10 games a year anyways.

I know I beat this horse 2 death….Grads led Div1A in completion %’s thats his and my Ace in the hole.I truely believe he is a field general and he will prove it here or else-where,imo
December 12th, 2009 at 3:41 pm
who do you guys think will win the heisman tonite? That Toby G reminds me of the old bruiser from Tampa during their prime with Warrick Dunn. Forgot his name.
I think Toby or Suh should win it. the rest are just hypes.
December 12th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
Mike Alstott
December 12th, 2009 at 3:51 pm
He reminds me of the A-train too.If hes there take him Big Al,then take all defense.Toby Gerhardt and da Bruce in the same Backfield
December 12th, 2009 at 4:06 pm
Al would like to give his investment another shot?
What caliber?
December 12th, 2009 at 4:06 pm
yes alstott. toby is a tough runner. Would be great as a 1-2 punch for any team. I hope we get Suh though. I dont care if Al trade Nnamdi for him. If the QB goes down and the run game is under control then you can live with a mediocre CB like Routt and Johnson.
December 12th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
Did Brennen have 30 total TD’s??? Toby had 26 so Brennen prolly win
December 12th, 2009 at 4:16 pm

December 12th, 2009 at 4:18 pm

December 12th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
true dat Kirk….but as most say linemen O or D can be had in later rounds. If Toby there take him,imo
December 12th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
I’ve been coming on her all year saying some not nice things about Russell-all of which were true.
It always seemed to me that he was sucking the life out of a team that had some talented players
I’ve also been calling for Frye to replace him.
Given the size of that offensive line it seemed like Bruce would have a hard time just seeing over them while Frye was 6-4.
I give credit to Vegas Raider who has been calling for Gradowski since the second week of the season.

I wonder where Gerhardt will be drafted….I doubt he would be a first-rounder.
Reminds of Jerome Bettis the most. Toby is faily nimble, and an extremely difficut tackle.
2nd rounder I would predict.
December 12th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
That 30 for 30 on the U should be interesting.

I was there around two years ago and there’s more than one nest of eagles flying out as far as Hemet.
As I recall you can buy fish and chips in that “pub” on top of the mountain in the village.
It’s still true that despite the Press Enterprise pushing the Chargers, the only NFL sign anyone’s carrying on their car/pick-up is the Raiders.
As it should be.
Very relaxing place.

The Anchor was a restaurant/micro-brewery way down Florida-before you got to the OK Corral and they made one hell of lager.
I think they sold food too.

December 12th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
You missed those casinos huh?
The Temecula one is impressive and draws big acts.
The San Jacinto one is called the Soboba I think.
Had a big sports room with Raider posters on the walls when I was there.
You didn’t miss much. If you like blackjack, as I do, you can’t double/split, etc.
Went in the Soboba one time though and they had this promotion for getting three natural blackjacks in a row-$1000.
I took some of that money home and left the rest.
December 12th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
SnB, first off what I’ve said about Grads is my opinion wether you like it or not. He hasn’t shown me he has staying power and until he does he hasn’t. Oh! he works hard so do a lot of players that can’t play.
Gradkowski is getting his 4th chance to get it done. Maybe this will work out for him who knows I like the guy. I just don’t like you suckers do…….period
I know for a fact Russell has a better upside and I know for a fact that the coaches are happy with his progress. I don’t have to get your approval to say that. I know it for a fact. He’ll get his chance again and when he does we’ll see. Gradkowski hasn’t shown me that he can be a starting QB in this league yet.
Dknight007 you little sissy you wouldn’t know a player or what it takes to play QB in this league your just jumping at this first sign of anything positive and hoping. While hating on someone you don’t know you’re atypical fan that follows whatever is the flavor of the month because you have zero insight on anything. You’re a freakin fool………….period

Vegas,
I think Gerhart will drafted in the late 1st or early 2nd round. Some teams will want to use him as a Bettis type of RB who will very effective in short yardage, goal line and pounding the rock when it is time to wear down teams.
Other teams may want to use him as more of an H Back type who can catch passes and be used as a TE in some situations.

Suffer no illusions, Russell is the franchise. he’ll be given every opportunity to helm the ship next year. we’ll have to see how Grad finishes out the year to see if he’s offered a deal. Remember, he was dumped by some horrid teams before landing in Oaktown so he’s not likely to be the next matt Shaub far as trades go. If he can win for us? why not sign him to a sparse contract? But, seeing his as #1 to start the year? Not sure about that unless injuries in pres season or sumthing else catastrophic happens with Russell or the Raiders.

Dirt-Lot, they bring all 3 back to camp and let them fight it out, the competitin will be fierce. And it’s the best thing that could happen for all concerned. Unless they want to resolve it all by bringing in Mike Vick. Then there would be no comptitin he would start………..period That wouyld give Russell an opportunity to learn from a very good example who has made a HUGE mistake one that Russell could learn a lot from.
Gradkowski is a feel good story and a lot of fun to watch if he can beat the Redskins and then take on Denver and somehow pull that out that would command a very nice contract that Big Al would love to see him EARN. This kid gives the Raider fans someone they can believe in.

ohh I thought those american fools Hicks and Gillett were as cheap as Glazer is… good to hear they finally respects LFC… sad they wont have Carlsberg on the jersey in the future…
December 13th, 2009 at 6:46 am
LOL….yep if there is excellent RB available for our 1st pick, abd there seems 2B a lot of em,take the best RB available because they wont last ,THEN DT MLB DT DE CB S .As I mentioned B4 it seems Cable does NOT like rookie O-linemen,imo.I wouldnt mind a FB somewhere in there either
December 13th, 2009 at 6:51 am
Won’t surprise me one bit if we take a RB with the first pick.
I always liked Karney ( ? )the Fb at the saints. He moved in free agency for the big bucks-can’t remember where.

crazy, simply crazy… I dont care what Cable likes or not like, we need O and D linemen and runstopping MLB…
we have 3 RBs, no need to go shop one for atleast 3 years… a FB would be nice, but we could also find one elsewhere than in the draft… we STILL have major concerns about not being able to stop the run….
furthermore what does a new RB do us, if there isnt a line that makes his holes ??? or what can a QB do when there isnt a line to protect him???
December 13th, 2009 at 6:55 am
Mike Karney…….went to the Rams……oh dear.
December 13th, 2009 at 6:56 am
yep Fargas has proved his worth but I just cant see him holding up much longer.I think this is last year of contract???? 4 him.We should resign for 1 more year, give Dmac all next year but also draft a RB for the 2011 season, imo
December 13th, 2009 at 6:57 am
neilb
FB Mike Karney went to the Rams…
December 13th, 2009 at 6:58 am
First,it doesn’t matter what Cable likes….it’s what Al Davis likes.
Second, wait till after the end of the season and free agency.Who we’ll take will, hopefully,be a bit more clear.
December 13th, 2009 at 7:00 am
I am all in favor of building the lines LMN….especially the D-line.As many have said there are quality linemen in rounds 2-6 but not many quality RB’s as you go deeper in draft.I would trade….No I wont help the team any way I can,I need a break Micheal Bush and get whatever picks I can.He isnt a team player, imo and has SERIOUS CONDITIONING PROBLEMS,imo
December 13th, 2009 at 7:02 am
For me it’s not a case of needing a new RB.It’s a case of using the 3 that we’ve got in the correct manner. The coaching sucks.
December 13th, 2009 at 7:04 am
Going to take the dog out before the Liverpool/Arsenal game comes on.
Back later…..
December 13th, 2009 at 7:05 am
well Cable is in his 1st true year at the helm.We had a patch-line O-line all year. But as I said we been GASHED all year on Defense, thats where we need the most help, imo
December 13th, 2009 at 7:06 am
Good morning Nation!!!Ready for another Gradkowski led W.
Word on the street is that the bogey man checked under his bed last night to make sure Bruce wasn’t there.
December 13th, 2009 at 7:07 am
lol =)

4eva…
I think there have been great 1st rounder RBs but just as many in 2nd, 3rd and so on…
problem is a RB expensive and I rather see those rookie dollars go to where its needed NOW and not waste it on a position where we are well equipped…
Bush needed a breather, yeah but so does Adrian Peterson, its says more of how Cable calls plays than it does about bush..
and where is “gods gift” McFadden in all this, I seem to remember you liked the kid…
December 13th, 2009 at 7:08 am
Absolutly Vegas….he may not be pretty but he is effictive, imo

so now you dont want a RB in the 1st round??
December 13th, 2009 at 7:11 am
Still like the kid thats why I say give Dmac all next year also. But if he dont work out….we will have that problem covered, imo.I know he was injured 1st year and this year he just aint getting it done. And I never seen APeterson request a break after 5 carries unless injured.
December 13th, 2009 at 7:12 am
We need offensive and defensive linemen and a middle linebacker.
Why not make Trevor Scott a middle linebacker?
December 13th, 2009 at 7:14 am
or a DT or MLB .Pick the best one at their respective position,I really dont have a preference just we need a DT MLB and a RB.If I had 2 pick only one it would be the nastiest MLB on th board
December 13th, 2009 at 7:18 am
4eva…
thats because Adrian Peterson never been asked to run the ball 5 times in a row…
its on Cable this one, he is a fool calling plays and using those 3 RBs… if those 3 had been Giants they all would have a 900yds season… Cable is and will not be the savior, he is still and interim coach. how many times have we seen McFadden lined up on the LOS ?? how many times have Bush and McFadden been on the field at the same time…
well one thing is okay, he FINALLY started to use 2 TE formations more…
on another note, Im glad DHB isnt well, he sucks and i dont like him…
now that I spilled my bile, im outta here, need to heal my hangovers..
December 13th, 2009 at 7:18 am
at 6-5 255 T.Scott is 2 tall and 2 light 2B a MLB,imo.Plus I think he found a home at WSLB
December 13th, 2009 at 7:19 am
well good luck with that LMN!!!!
December 13th, 2009 at 7:23 am
We need a lot of things and a RB is one of them.
Bush, Fargas…..those guys wouldn’t even see the field with just about every team, and certainly wouldn’t start ANYWHERE.
McFadden, because of his speed and draft status, would get a look, but he is the least effective of the 3 taking handoffs.
It isn’t priority number 1, and we can patch together maybe for another year, but RB is a position that the Raiders lack NFL level talent.
All 3 have serious limitations in their game. Chester Taylor, Ryan Moats, Marshawn Lynch these are all backups around the league that would easily be our best back if they came aboard.
December 13th, 2009 at 7:29 am
Look at the Panthers, they already had Deangelo Williams and than drafted Jonathan Stewart in the first round 2 years later.
And with complete crap at QB, they still went 13-3 last year and are hanging around .500 this year.
Your not going to get great blocking every play. Sometimes when things break down you need a baller to make things happen and get yards. Even with great blocking at times, our RB’s find ways to not be productive on plays.

Exactly….no more moving Scott around. He is just fine as the WSLB and down elephant hybrid role he is in now.
Moving him to MLB would just mind screw him and would negate his true talent.
