Cable says it’s Frye

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, December 20th, 2009 at 5:19 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Talking with reporters following the game, Raiders coach Tom Cable said Charlie Frye would be the starter if healthy against Cleveland next week.

He added that he was proud of JaMarcus Russell, recovering from some bad plays to lead the Raiders to the winning touchdown. Russell received a game ball.

Michael Bush got all the extra work because Justin Fargas “tweaked” a knee early in the game.

everybody who keeps talking about free agency need to pay attention to the nfl most of our players will be rfa and can be tendered at low costs and there wont be many other fa’s out there because most of the good ones either already signed a contract or they are going to be rfa

you don’t know what we would have seen.are you clairvoyant or what?how about enjoying the win.
    =======================================================
Judging on the past…probably more of the same.

But instead, we don’t have to answer those what-if questions.

Michael Bush was a beast today and helped lead the Raiders to victory!

Let’s hope we get Bush 18 more carries next week!

  3. 4evaRaider Says:

    LMAO Pete

  4. 16yearsold16yearfan Says:

im just glad fargas got hurt without that we would have had fargas 23 carries for 80 yards instead of bush 18 for 133 and mcfadden 12 for 74

  5. RaiderLen Says:

Fargas going down seems to lead to more productive rushing games.

In spite of our O line.

  6. 504 Raider Says:

JaMarcus and Randy Moss should have held a joint presser via satellite. It coulda been on PPV.

  7. 504 Raider Says:

I bet Cable spit on the ball he gave JRuss.

  8. 24 Says:

When is Tom Cable going to realize that Michael Bush is the best back on the Oakland Raiders? I have been saying it all freakin year. Nobody can tell me that Justin Fargas is better.

    18 Carries, 133 Yards, 7.4 YPC, 1 TD

Tom…are you gonna let Bush save your job again this year?

  9. lefty12 Says:

S&B-don’t get me wrong,i’d love to see Bush win and keep the job.but we don’t see what goes on from Mon. until Sat. which leads to the decisions that are made and we do know the old man holds grudges.i have been on Bushes wagon since we drafted him.didn’t want Dmac because of him.

    7 yards a carry!

    Another 100 yard game.

What does Bush need to do to EARN the starting job?

    :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

my understanding of the situation is that in order to be the man… you must beat the man…

so apparently… M Bush will need to kick Fargas’s ass…

Bush couldnt get in from the 2 foot line.Thats production there!!!

I dont care if Bush ran for 1000 yards, its all between the 20’s and dont mean sh!t.And he still couldnt get in from the 2 yard line. What kind of RB cant get in from the 2 foot line.Bush couldnt csore a td if there was no one in front of him.lol

Its soooo funny that you been screaming that Fargas cant score and get only 60 yards.Well guess what Bush ran for 133 or whatever and he couldnt SCORE EITHER

    BUT THATS PRODUCTION

    :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

4eva… put the freaking beer down and pay attention…

    HAHAHA…….I’m glad for you!!

Maybe word of people getting rid of his jerseys on the internet is the motivation he needed, LOL.

    Great team effort today!!

  15. 504 Raider Says:

OK Nation, it’s the final two weeks of the season. It’s Bamboozle Time in Oakland. Want a 2010 job? Make some plays the next 2 weeks.

  16. Richard Bentley Says:

Casey Stengel said “The Mets is amazin”. Well the 2009 Raiders are *&^%(*& amazin’.
God, I hope not too many cardiac condition fans listen to these games. It’s always the “woeful Raiders” in the other town’s newspapers. Well, maybe not so woeful now. I’d like to see this team win out and Cable keep his job after putting up with all the ^%$& he had to this year, what with starting out with two rookie receivers, a totally raw qb, and all those stabs in the back by weasels.

  17. 24 Says:

    Ok…

Charlie Frye sucked. I don’t like Jamarcus Russell but you might as well let him carry that momentum into the next game however…I think Tom Cable wants to give Frye a chance at revenge on the Browns and maybe Rob Ryan knows Russell a little too much?

  18. 4evaRaider Says:

I saw Eric Pears at LT….Green at RG Pears at RT I believe.that was interesting what Cable did with the line today

  19. vegas raider Says:

That terrible Raider offensive line cleared the way for 240 yards rushing, held the Broncos to one sack and Pro Bowler Elvis Dumervile with only 1 assisted tackle ALL DAY!!

    Way to be O-line.

McFadden stinks. Serious flaws in his game.

  20. vegas raider Says:

Frye stinks as well. He was bailing out of the pocket first chance he had.

    I would rather start Jamarcus.

  21. lefty12 Says:

C.Frye sucked-what the hell game were you watching.he may not have been great but he sure as hell didn’t suck.

  22. 24 Says:

    Production?

Justin Fargas has 10 Touchdowns in 7 Seasons. 824 Attempts.

Michael Bush has 6 Touchdowns in 2 seasons with limited opportunity. 180 Attempts.

    Hows that for production?

  23. 4evaRaider Says:

at one time the line was

    LT-Henderson
    LG-Walker
    C-Satele
    RG-Green
    RT-Pears

Man that is some huge gaurds, imo

  24. vegas raider Says:

I was watching the game he went 9 for 17 for less than 70 yards and a wretched interception.

Than left in a nice Glass Joe moment. His future is coaching, the sooner the better.

Bush was huge today. McFadden is showing signs of getting better and the Raiders win agains Denver. YA!

  31. Ghost to the Post Says:

And Langston Walker makes one hell of a guard.

  32. islandraider Says:

Nice to see the team kept it going the whole game. Team win today. How many games the Raiders win in the last 2 minutes? 4 out of 5

  33. lefty12 Says:

Vegas-i was responding to 24.what you are overlooking is he managed the game very well.he avoided the rush most of the day as he wasn’t sacked at all.he hasn’t played in a ‘real’ game since last Oct.are you saying he left in a glass jaw moment on that last hit he took?he got hammered.do you honestly believe we would have been in position to win that game if the anchor had started and played the whole game?

  34. islandraider Says:

If Cable has any brains, Bush is the guy.

  35. RaiderLen Says:

Jamrcus might have learned something today.

My guess though is that it could be the wrong “thing”

I’d hate to see Him “Rest on his Laurels” and use this as an example to Him as to why His “Habits” are sound.

  36. vegas raider Says:

    Lefty12,

Probably not with the anchor all game. Charlie is a heady guy, but he is very very limited. Bruce is much better, JP probably is, and he isn’t much better than Jamarcus, if really at all.

He isn’t a clown like Russell so he had the team fighting from the beginning and ready to compete. But don’t expect any Gradkowski type games from Charlie Frye.

  37. Thec07 Says:

Cable doesnt know how to use mbush or DMAC. He should have had them both on the field for most of the game.

  58. 4evaRaider Says:

O-Line has been great under cable in the run game for the most part, not so much in terms of pass protection.

  63. 24 Says:

Ok…I’ll take back what I said when I said Frye sucked. That was probably the wrong terminology. In terms of managing the game, Frye did a good job. I just didn’t see anything that stood out as far as winning the game for us. If anything, he kept us in the game so I guess thats all you can ask for. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe my expectations were a little too high? Jamarcus coming in and winning the game was just a huge shock to me.

  64. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

    4eva,

I thought Cable calling that bootleg in the 2nd qtr slowed the pass rush considerably. 1st qtr was a disaster for the Oline, but it opened up after that play.

Running game was more of Bush and McFadden running against the blocking on that one drive, and a nice job by Cable of bringing Pears in as an extra beef dude, lol.

I just don’t get why we STOPPED running to the left when we go to the goal line.

But I certainly give Cable credit for having the guys ready to play REGARDLESS of who is behind C. Exactly what Smac and I were talking about last week!

  71. 4evaRaider Says:

It sure helped to have a running game. An offensive line can look a lot better when they have a RB like Bush instead of Fargas. It helps the passing game overall with the protection because it puts less stress on them. Its up to the QB at that point to make plays.

  118. vegas raider Says:

Bush broke a lot of tackles today. Huge difference when a RB does that for a team. That’s what an above average NFL RB looks like, and I would love to get that every week.

    Would do our O wonders.

  119. lefty12 Says:

an O-line can also look better when your QB knows what he is doing.it shouldn’t be overlooked that since the anchor has been benched sacks have gone waaaaaay down!

  120. r8eray Says:

Yeah it was a good win, but you must say..coach should have gone for a field goal!!

  121. 24 Says:

Jamarcus proved that our offensive line is more talented without him and their biggest reason for failure is their lack of confidence in JR causes them to have a lack of focus and motivation, which is why they don’t play so well when hes the QB.

24, the O-Line is not any better no matter the QB. It just happens that Gradz and Frye are mobile enough to make up for their mistakes…

i HOPE WE SEE MORE BUSH THIS YEAR…

  124. RaiderYYZ Says:

JaMarcus needs solid protection to have the chance to be successful (not saying he consistently would be right now even if he had it), same with QB’s like Warner, P. Manning, Bledsoe…

all i have to say is get rid of the embarrassment russell , give GRADKOWSKI whatever he wants, the guy is a born leader the whole team plays better when he’s in there, after all our “CHUCKY” drafted him and everyone knows he knows QB”s. how about this dream team MADDEN as our GM and GRUDEN head coach wow!, hey i can dream can’t i?, seriously though long as GRADKOWSKI is our starter next year i am excited already for next year

  135. RaiderRetribution Says:

    Mr. Bush is a beast!

he would have had two rushing TDs had anyone of 3 things happen:
1)OLine doesn’t get knocked on their ass 3/4 times inthe goal line stance,
    2) Mr. Lawton (who blocked well the rest of the game) doesn’t committ his dive block too early missing the block on the DB on 2nd down, Michael in quickly otherwise, and
3)Coach Cable calls a run to the left side where Mr. Bush & Mr. McFAdden were running all-over the Broncos; all four (goalline) plays were to the middle/right side.
