Final: Raiders 20, Broncos 19
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, December 20th, 2009 at 4:27 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Notes and observations from the Raiders-Broncos game Sunday in Denver:
– Broncos have 29 seconds, start outside 20. Greg Ellis forces fumble, Broncos recover. Seven-yard loss. Orton incomplete on second down. Michael Huff decks Brandon Marshall on potential third-and-17 conversion. Kyle Orton to Tony Scheffler connects deep, no time out, Raiders bag one of their most improbable wins in years.
– JaMarcus Russell drive follows . . .
Raiders at own 38 with 3:29 left. JaMarcus Russell sacked, fumbles, Carlisle recovers. Raiders get a huge pass interference call with Russell throwing to Murphy. Absolutely the right call.
Oakland at Denver 43, Russell throws it away. Next play, Russell hit, he’s hurt. It’s J.P. Losman’s turn.
Losman throws incomplete with Vonnie Holliday in his face vs. Langston Walker. It’s fourth-and-10.
Russell back for fourth down. Clutch throw to tony Stewart for first down at 2:06. Perfect pass.
Russell to Stewart for nine more yards to the 23. Pretending he’s Zach Miller.
Russell fires 13-yard strike to Chaz Schilens to the 10-yard line with 59 seconds left.
Russell throws a shade behind Higgins, incomplete.
Illegal contact on Broncos puts ball at the 5, 30 seconds left, Raiders no time outs. Clock continued to run, reset at 45 seconds.
Raiders jump offsides _ gives slightly more room for Russell to throw, takes away threat of run, however.
Russell incomplete, hit as he throws.
Russell to Schilens touchdown on crossing route. It’s 19-19 awaiting extra point Raiders lead with 35 sconds left.
– Russell has 79 yards to go, but Raiders do have time to mix in running plays, more than five minutes left.
Russell throws third-and-2 first down pass to Bush _ he drops it. No excuse for that drop
– After staying away from big play all day, Brandon Stokely pierces the middle of the field for a 63-yard gain against Stanford Routt, and horse collar tackle sets up Broncos at the 4-yard line, first-and-goal.
Denver can go up 10 and Raiders would need two scores with Russell at quarterback.
Big stop by Raiders _ Tommy Kelly loses his pants and stuffs Moreno run. Thomas Howard defends Orton-to-Tony Scheffler pass in end zone. Prater converts from 21 yards.
They need one score, not two.
– Gulp. Charlie Frye throws incomplete, crushed on blitz, back of head hits turf. Here comes JaMarcus, for a play, at least.
Maybe it’s karma. Instant illegal procedure penalty on Schilens, short run, and then Russell forced to call time out facing third-and-12, underthrows Louis Murphy. Murphy open, pass was short. Delay of game penalty for spiking ball on Murphy.
– Raiders force punt from Broncos end zone, with Orton QB sneak coming up short. Should be good field position. They’ll start at own 40 _ Mitch Berger 64-yard punt, JLH 14-yard return.
– McFadden denied on pitch right, fourth-and-goal, he gets inside the 1, no further.

December 20th, 2009 at 4:30 pm
Hey Vegas,

December 20th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
Somebody tell MR’s Mom to take away his shoelaces and belt. The Raider won so he’s going to hang himself.
December 20th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
Great win, but Jamarcus still does not give us the best chance to win.
December 20th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
AWESOME!!!
December 20th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
russell STILL sucks
December 20th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
Congrats to the Oakland Raiders and Jamarcus Russell for coming through in the clutch. He still looked like the worst QB on our roster, and if he had started this game, we would have lost.
But enjoy the win fellas. This should motivate Jawalrus to work harder, get in better shape, work on his accuracy, and develop a pocket presence.
He has the worst pocket presence of any QB in the league.
December 20th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
MR, can dust off the #2 he bought and wear it prodly for a week….
December 20th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
FT&K ya! F%@K MR. #2 is #1 for a cycle. FU&* the donks!
December 20th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
Not only were many fans rooting for Denver just to spite Russell and be right, to satisfy their own fragile egos, but obviously Tom Cable was as well. Look at his total lack of excitement. After the Denver game, you couldn’t control Cable. He was leaping around like he won the lottery. Now, he’s stoic, just walking straight with a blank stare as he approaches Josh McDaniel. Congratulations, Tom. You just took Al Davis’s title as the most evil prick in the Raiders’ organization. Fire the sack of shyt now, Al.
December 20th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
Here’s my deal for you guys.
If Cable beats Cleveland he can stay.
Only if he promises to start Bush with 70% of the carries and Louis Murphy doesn’t sit behind DHB…I don’t buy that X Y Z stuff
December 20th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
“F” the DONKEYS!!!!!!
That still does not mean we keep JaBusto!!
December 20th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
Excuse me, I meant that after the Pittsburgh game you couldn’t control Cable. After the Pittsburgh game, Cable was jumping all over the field Gruden style, like he won the lottery. Now he just has a blank stare. WHAT KIND OF F’N HEAD COACH ROOTS AGAINST THE TEAM? THIS IS A F’N OUTRAGE! FIRE HIS ASS TONIGHT, AL. TONIGHT.

Didnt you see him when his teammates went to congratulate him, he seemed to be cursing at them. This guy is an idiot but he won us the game just like Jeff George did for us in some games.
December 20th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
Its a win against the Broncos, if you are a true fan just congratulate the team without any backhanded compliments. Just try to enjoy the win. Now sit back and watch how difficult that is for many on this board.
December 20th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Dear Al Davis,
Please, please, or anyone here who works for the Raiders, and I know some of you are here, please, please, review the videotape of the Pittsburgh game which shows Cable full of joy and celebrating at the end, and then observe tonight’s ending and see how Cable is obviously pissed. No emotion, just stoic and walking toward McDaniel. He’s obviously disappointed. He has the same look on his face as if he’d lose. Cable proved after the Pittsburgh game that he’s not one to hide his emotions. I think Hanson could attest to that, as well. Now look at him. He’s just blanked. He should be the happiest man on the planet right now, and he instead might be the angriest man on the planet. What a f’n joke.
December 20th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Man it feels so good to beat the donkeys in denver!
Congratulations RAIDERS!!!!Let’s just enjoy this one!!!
Merry Christmas RAIDER FANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shut the F&CK up man and enjoy the win! Cable has pulled through the past few games. We’re 3 – 2 the last 5 games. WE actually played our backs pretty much correctly today. We played the best QB option until he got hurt. We called good plays. ENJOY THE WIN. CABLE DID A GOOD JOB TODAY COACHING THIS TEAM.
December 20th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
ok…tell me why would cable want to loose against a team that Al Davis hates? MR I thought you had some kind of common sense, but I guess not

MAN THAT HIT BY HUFF ON BRANDON MARSHALL TOTAL OWNAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 20th, 2009 at 4:44 pm
Mr. Jamarcus Russell finally earned his paycheck!
He definately has a connection with Mr. Schilens.
Mr. Frye gave us the opportunity to win, the defense minus one big play was excellent, and Mr. Bush & Mr McFadden were awesome.
Raiders defeated the Broncos this was our biggest win by far even more than defeating the Steelers, Bengals, and Eagles, as this one had a few scuffles and was divisional rival.
December 20th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
Hey I’m NOT a Russell fan But I think it’s just a regional thing. Those southern guys just sound dumb
December 20th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
Mcfumble almost lost the game
December 20th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
LET’S GO BABY!
December 20th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
Another great win for the raider family and let keep it at that. did anyone see how russell foot work looked in the pocket on 2nd and 3rd down. Wow he isnt learning or trying to learn basic qb stuff from old school guys in paul hackett. We still need to go get another qb o line and middle linebacker. Great win guys

TRMR: Not only were many fans rooting for Denver just to spite Russell and be right, to satisfy their own fragile egos, but obviously Tom Cable was as well.

youre one to talk about fragile egos; youre the only person that wanted the broncos to win, and that was to satisfy your own ego.
i wonder why cable would feel that continuing to start jruss is a bad thing? i mean its not like his job depends on the team winning or anything…
December 20th, 2009 at 8:42 pm
Russell wins just when was almost out the door…here we go again…
