Notes and obersrvations from the Raiders-Broncos game Sunday in Denver:
– Good call to get Charlie Frye going, play-fake and 26-yard bootleg left on final play of quarter.
– Denver looking to exploit Chris Johnson with Eddie Royal (where or where has DeAngelo gone?). Don’t know why they’re not giving it to Moreno on 70 percent of the plays at this point.
– Frye rushed into incompletion, looked like he was outside the tackle box on throwaway _ called for grounding anyway. Raiders end up running Fargas from their own 4 on third-and-26.
Couldn’t be much worse on offense so far.
– Broncos looking to trickery when they don’t have to. A tackle eligible, cross-field pass from Orton to Ryan Clady is upended by Nnamdi Asomugha. And the Broncos didn’t even run it right. Marshall lined up improperly.
After sack by Matt Shaughnessy, one-on-one tackle by Stanford Routt, Matt Prater converts from 43 yards and a 6-0 lead.
– Even JaMarcus Russell thought Frye’s pop-fly wobbler of an interception to Champ Bailey was awful.
– Broncos got it in the red zone with ease (and Moreno) on their first possession and had to settle for Prater’s 23-yard field goal. Terrible call on Orton quarterback sneak on second-and-4 inside the 10.
– Not an encouraging first series for Frye. One into the dirt, short run by Fargas, 6-yard pass to Schilens short of first down.
