Frye, Miller on field

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009 at 12:55 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Quarterback Charlie Frye and tight end Zach Miller went through warmups and drills, were wearing helmets and looked to be joining practice when team sessions started Wedesday.

That would indicate both men have been cleared following concussions _ Miller missed the Denver game _ and are free of symptoms. With Bruce Gradkowski not at practice, Frye is the probable starter against the Browns Sunday.

Frye was going through drills along with JaMarcus Russell and J.P. Losman, while newly-signed practice squad player Jeff Otis went through special teams drills.

Those not at practice included DE Greg Ellis (knee), RB Justin Fargas (knee), wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey (foot), tight end Brandon Myers (concussion) and wide receiver/return specialist Nick Miller (tibia).

Ellis said last week he would probably not be practicing until Friday over the final two weeks of the season.

More to come . . .

Power blocking is needed especially against Baltimore. IF we can run on Baltimore we’ll see how good our O-line is.

S&B: who did Norv Turner bring in to play QB?

Kerry Collins. then he drafted Andrew Walter to groom as future QB

Turner has a knack for helping young QB’s along.

However, QB’s like Collins/Walter are clearly not system fits under Kiffin or Cable – couldn’t agree more

Walter couldn’t stick as 2nd or 3rd string QB in New England either though. makes you wonder if the kid is even NFL material. I don’t think we ruined him, look at David Carr playing in NY!
    ====================================================
The Raiders didn’t do Walter any favors releasing the 1st day of training camp. A total garbage move by the Raiders.

Perhaps if Walter had the training camp with NE, he could have latched on. He’ll be back

    4eva,

You said you wanted to trade Michael Bush. Better keep him, looks like Fargas is hurt again.

Trade the best running back on the team? As if they are easy to replace. We haven’t had a real deal running game since Garner and Wheatley!

Thanks, Jerry. Frye and Miller on the field. CNN just had it as a breaking story, too.

    i’m detecting a bit of whimsy here…

Florida Pete, the “Leave Al alone” criers don’t sound much different than the “Leave Britney alone” guy.

  19. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

No, Pete, seriously. Frye and Miller taking the field was just on CNN as “breaking news”. They cut into their regular program to report it.

    really ???

did they bring up the UFO in your back yard ???

  22. 4evaRaider Says:

lol….I mean at the end of the season….

  23. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

No, CNN doesn’t do Onion type headlines like UFOs in back yards, or Raiders Win Superbowl.

  27. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Jerry’s headline Sunday, about midway into the second quarter: Frye off the field, on stretcher.

i don’t know, man… CNN told me the war was over 6 years ago…

no wait… they were reporting the Republicans were saying the war was over…

    not quite the same…

  29. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

LOL. OK then, obviously CNN isn’t reliable if they make Republicans seem sane. Have to concur there.

    Frye makes into the 3rd…

but not out of the 3rd…

    in goes JaMeatloaf…

  31. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

So, any news today other than Frye taking the field? Like, maybe, Al retiring?

  32. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

JaMeatloaf is the only QB that can take the hits that QBs will take in Al’s system, which prioritizes protecting the quarterback just below winning.

  33. Florida Pete Says:

    brittany murphy is still dead…

    i don’t know if that counts…

  34. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

I mean, look at what’s happening. Gradkowski: Injured. Frye: Injured. Frye starts this week, but does anyone really think he’s not going to get injured again? He’s a sitting duck back there. Those small QBs get killed in Al’s system, no matter their “pocket presence”. Ask Rich Gannon.

  35. RaiderResurrection Says:

Real Madden Raider, Jamasterbate can take those hits because he has that “Extra Padding” around his mid section. It helps his center of gravity to fumble the ball more when he is sacked.

  36. Stabler76 Says:

    I see another headline emerging……

  42. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Raiderresurrection, whatever the case, Russell seems to be the last man standing in our roster of QB’s. Nobody else can stay healthy and take those hits. I never said it was because Russell is in shape or good. I’m certainly privy to the fat theory.

You know…I watched the Denver game again last night…Luke Lawton missed on his block that would have gotten Bush in the end zone on that series that we went 4 and none…correct me if I’m wrong…
    ———————————————

You know i was cussin when i seen Luke go untouched in the endzone. He didn’t even try to plow anybody over, what’s he think he is the rb running in for a score? Most fullbacks are looking for a collision, this guy avoids them. Lawton needs to be replaced this offseason.

  44. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

    Florida Pete, you’re a weirdo.

  45. 4evaRaider Says:

Dont know the temperature in Cleavland but….The year Mike Davis intercepted Brian Sipe to go S/B well….it was soo freezing cold no one would try a 30 yard F/G,the ball was like kicking a rock….like catching a rock too…Power running with ? lol

  46. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Al Davis does not care if his quarterback is protected. It’s the lowest priority for him. As long as his QB can get enough deep throws off to score points, then he’s protected enough. A QB had better have some size in this system. The only small QB to play well with the Raiders in recent memory is Rich Gannon, and that’s because Gruden had a system with quicker passes, and kept the O line disciplined and in shape.
