Status quo for Raiders’ injuries

There were no surprises for the Raiders’ Christmas Eve practice as they concluded warmups and drills and began practice.
Not present were quarterback Bruce Gradkowski (knees), running back Justin Fargas (knee), tight end Brandon Myers (concussion), wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey (foot) and defensive end Greg Ellis (knee).
Ellis is likely to play, the rest will probably be inactive Sunday against the Browns.

Hell, during training camp the team was reduced to having him run routes with NO ONE AROUND HIM..and he still couldn’t catch balls. Was a mock celebration from Jerry when he actually caught a few..WITH NO DEFENSE IN THE AREA..Bey is that bad.
Hell, his TD he STILL MISSED..it went through his hands, and settled in his gut..even that reception was a fluke.

What’s very obvious is you need speed, but when you can’t catch the ball, speed means nothing.

OK i can understand where your coming from, but catching the ball can definitely be worked on. and its probably safe to assume that his work ethic is better than JRuss’. so im going to hold off my judgment on DHB until he gets a QB that can throw him the ball accurately and gets another season under his belt.

RaiderD..sometimes you have to just bite the bullet. Unfortunately 22 million guaranteed means that instead of moving the chains, the team has to watch a guy short arm balls, or drop them, and then punt.
Here’s what’s to worry about.
Everyone gets nervous coming into the NFL, but at some point that goes away, and their skills and talent come out..usually.
Except even in college Bey couldn’t catch the ball on a regular basis.
And throughout the year, NFL receiving coaches worked on it with him…week after week, month after month..
Not sure he has it in him.
Jerry Rice struggled with dropped balls in his rookie year..but..as I recall reading he also had a 200 plus yd game against the Rams his rookie year…he just had to learn consistency.
Bey hasn’t shown he’s even capable of catching routine balls..which makes the #7 pick even more suspect.

It appears that Nick Miller will never see the playing field this year. What a waste of a valuable roster spot! I understand keeping him active the first few weeks of the season with hopes that he will get healthy, but with so many glaring needs, how the hell does this team not put Nick Miller on IR by week 6 let alone THE ENTIRE SEASON?!

and from a news article i was reading about DHB “hands” is one of the things the coaches were working with DHB to fix, and they also said he had good work ethic.

Yeah, Bey has good work ethic..but..by that token, Frye and Grad also have good work ethic.
MANY NFL players who never get off the pine have great work ethic..try their hardest..study..long hours…rep after rep after rep..but doesn’t make up for the fact that someone else is just a little better, or a lot better.
Give up on Bey?
I would say put someone in there who’s shown they can do their job..don’t you agree?
Not “team will lose as you learn your job” or “that was a td you dropped” but we’ll wait as you get better” situation. Let Bey EARN THE STARTING POSITION…earn it..show he can perform..JUST LIKE EVERY POSITION SHOULD BE…earned, not given because of your massive contract.

Shouldn’t have to go and learn your craft when you’re #7.
Not saying it’s Bey’s fault he got picked, just saying the bust label applies to the draft number, along with his inability to catch and hold onto the ball.
Now..tell me this..IF BEY WAS A 7TH ROUND PICK, and gotten a minimum contract..AND he had the horrible training camp he had, the horrible preseason, and the dreadful season he’s had…DO YOU THINK HE WOULD BE RESIGNED FOR NEXT YEAR?

I hate the way DHB played this year. Apparently his rookie season is now over, and we now have a BETTER chance of winning. I think he had a horrible year, but before I give up on him, its important to remember that there is still next year. None of us know how his work ethic will be. Hopefully, he will work hard and be better. With the way that Schillens and Murphy look, if DHB can come and catch like a #7 pick, we will be IMPOSSIBLE to cover….GO RAIDERS!!!
