Frye will start season finale

Raiders coach Tom Cable said Monday Bruce Gradkowski was “doubtful” for the season finale, has no intention of starting JaMarcus Russell and expects Charlie Frye to open at quarterback when they host the Baltimore Ravens in the season finale at the Coliseum.

More to come later . . .

Look, I am no fan of Russell either. But wishing physical harm? To me, that is as outrageous as wishing death on a person because the football team isn’t winning.

    **************************************

C’mon man, it’s football, wishing physical harm is what we do!!! If Mike Mitchell broke Anderson’s collarbone yesterday, I would have laughed!!! I broke my elbow playing football in 8th grade (lol), shyt happens out there.

If this were to be Jamarcus’ last game as a Raider, a decent chance, I honestly hope he fails miserably. I know this means The Raiders will probably be losing, but guess what, we probably will anyway with or without him.

He’s a tomato can, he deserves to be knocked out. The Ravens shouldn’t let him cling his way to the final bell.

    4eva,

You should sign that petition going around for Davis to hire a GM. Because Al Davis will probably bring back JaRyan and we will tank another season

    When he is replaced

  • RaidingTexas

Looks like Mike Leach (former Bay Area resident) may become available soon. Would Al switch out a coach who abuses other coaches for one who abuses players?

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

    4eva,

No, Gradkowski has to convince Al Davis to re-sign him.

Gradkowski has to convince Davis to give him a fair shot at the job.

Gradkowski has to hope Davis doesn’t change the offense to a vertical stretch.

I could give a damn who the QB is along as he is the best player available to give the team a chance to win.

The only player on the roster that I am backing 100% is Michael Bush. That guy is getting a raw deal from the soon to be ex-coach!

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

    Vegas Raider,

Wouldn’t it make more sense to direct the conversation to the decision making process that lead to Russell starting or potentially starting again in the 1st place?

I have no ill will toward Russell in any way. It’s not like he drafted himself.

In this microwave society that we now live, gone are the days when a rookie qb is groomed by a veteran for a few years as a back up, before being thrust into the starting role. There is a reason why guys like Aaron Rodgers are able to succeed when they become starters. Unfortunatley situations like Rodgers are very rare in this day and age.

I also think that is why the NFL game has started to resemble the college game more so every year. Teams are forced to adjust to a rookie’s skill set and experience because they have so much money invested in them and results are expected NOW or sooner.

So they create schemes and plays that are similar, or even the same, that they played in college to maximize results. On the field it translates to more spread offenses with qb’s in the shotgun and gimmick formations like the Wildcat. It has also contibuted to the demise of the True Fullback!

How can Russell, a #1 talent, have 2 TD’s and Charlie Frye, a “heady” veteran, with 0, and Bruce Gradkowski have 6?

Something weird there. Is Bruce that good? Frye and Russell that bad?

I hate the last game of the season. The realization of it really sets in with Charlie fkn Frye playing QB.

2009. The year of Cable-Russell. Played out pretty well didn’t it? YIKES!!!!

To be fair, Russell let a lot of people down with coming to camp overweight, skipping meetings, not mastering the playbook, missing OTA sessions, not working on mechanics etc…etc…

With that said, QBs shouldn’t be drafted high. No player should. Trade down or hold the pick until the mid-to-late 1st round. That way you don’t make the huge financial investment.

The Raiders are really good at developing talent anyways….they need self-motivated players that can do it themselves….hell, look at Nnamdi.

The Raiders are better off going to the veteran route. Sort of what was suggested by AIG….I don’t think you will ever win a Super Bowl this way…but it sure as hell will beat 10+ losses every stinking year!

  • 860Todd Christensen

Most QB’s have 4.5 to 6.5 secs to release the ball, our O-Line provides 1.2 Seconds to release the ball? Opposing Coaches know this, we are an easy target, many blitzes, we dont respond? This team has given up, time to hold them accountable!

3 games does not make a career. He also had a terrible game against Dallas. So what.

All Gradkowski earned was a chance to start. 3 games is not enough to hand over the keys. Let him compete with credible competition.

If he is as good as you think, he should have no problem winning the job.

Sure 4eva…sure. You watch football like I watch my cousin playing Little League. You just chear for your favorites because to you the score really doesn’t matter.

Bush is the most productive back on the team. Period. 5+ yds per carry and the last Raider to have 100+ yards rushing

You, on the other hand are just content to watch Fargas run for 3 yds a carry because he’s just so violent.

Whatever man. I want wins and Bush gives that chance. The next coach will figure it out soon enough

4 eva, The team let JR down, he’s young, but didn’t have the O-Line to back him up, thats Al, He was destined to defeat! yes, he’s got a cannon arm, but Cable, and the Coaches let him slack, I still think there is a chance with this new-be, He needs to clear his mind and get on track!

  • SouthernStyle

I wouldn’t be surprised if Russell wants to be cutt, he may not want to be a Raider after the year he had. Just a thought…
I heard if the NFL goes uncapped next year they’re gonna try to make a rule so that teams can’t just dump players with big contracts. Not sure if there’s any truth to that tho. We may be stuck with J-Russ next year regardless and i doubt Al gives up on him just yet. If he were smart he’d better train the entire offseason, and not 2 weeks before camp.

  • 860Todd Christensen

SNB, We know who is playing the calls. It frustrates everyone of us in here. Can’t Al’s son just admit too the share-holders that things are going to be different?

Given that the league adopted an eight-year rotation from 2002 through 2009, which would ensure that every team plays in every other stadium and hosts every other team at least once during that period, will the same formula apply for 2010?

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello pointed out to us that, per page 16 of the 2009 NFL Record and Fact Book, the league decided after the 2008 season to apply the same formula in 2010.

Aiello tells us that the formula will continue to apply beyond 2010, too.

Presumably, the formula will remain in place unless and until the current alignment of eight four-team divisions changes.

The current format consists of each team playing two games against each division opponent, four games against all of the teams in another division in the same conference, two games against the teams from the other two divisions in the conference that finished in the same position (e.g., the first-place team in the AFC East plays the first-place teams from the other two divisions), and one game against each of the four teams from one division in the other conference.

For 2010, the AFC East teams play all teams of the AFC North and the NFC North.

The AFC North teams play the teams of the AFC East and the NFC South.

The AFC South teams play the teams of the AFC West and the NFC East.

The AFC West teams play the teams of the AFC South and the NFC West.

The NFC East teams face the teams of the NFC North and the AFC South.

The NFC North teams play the teams of the NFC East and the AFC East.

The NFC South teams play the teams of the NFC West and the AFC North.

The NFC West teams play the teams of the NFC South and the AFC West.

The only unknowns at this point relate to those two games against the teams from the other two divisions in each conference. By Monday, it’ll all be sorted out. Then, in April, the league will announce the dates and times of the various games.

4EVA, he’s just a kid, learning, thrown in too quick, no O-Line, our right side is the biggest Joke in the NFL. We can’t even run the ball? This team under Cable is the biggest joke that we have every seen, I admire Cable for his loyalty, but he is not the man for this job, IMHO!

Take out the emotion, and look at the QB situation…

Gradkowski: We already have an idea of what he can do. Did he earn a new contract? Absolutely. A “big” one? Absolutely not. A nice medium one would do. But, he shouldn’t play this game…we already know he’s a gamer.

Frye: We’ve seen what he can do…and know he’s not the under-fire answer at the position. Since we already know that, we need to move on.

Losman: Not fair to him, or the team, to expect him to do anything unless it’s an emergency. Ride the pines until camp, JP.

JaMarcus: This is the one last chance for JaMarcus to have a positive feeling going into the off-season. The team stands as much of a chance of winning with JaMarcus as they do with Frye…and it could be Jamarcus’s chance to throw down the gauntlet to Grad, JP, and a yet-to-be-named Free Agent, that he isn’t going to go away so easily.

For the sake of potential development, without diminishing the team’s chances to be competitive in the game, I say it’s time to put JaMarcus out there one more time.

A few months to digest the Ravens’ Defense, and his own QB future, might be just what the doctor ordered for JaMarcus. There aren’t any other on-the-job-training opportunities left for him this season.

Adding Vick would be a nice addition as well.

There is a “skills” clause in JaMarcus Russell’s contract that stipulates if his “skills” aren’t up to a professional standard they can terminate his contract with having to pay out the remainder or be penalized for doing so.
    ====================================
Actually, Dogg, I think that clause was one Al WANTED included, the clause that held up the signing into the second week of the season, but it never was added.

Players union laughed out loud that anyone would even consider running that by a draft pick, hoping they would accept.

DK, Vick wont help us, development of our reigning pine bencher more so, we truly need to get rid of Cable, get someone to call the plays, AD Football is not working anymore. We have very good talent, it’s just not used to it’s highest ability, IMHO!

Vick is RB pretending to be a QB. We need a real QB. Enough of the circus play. Pick-up Troy Smith, QB-RFA, Ravens and we’ll have a shot at a good young talent that could work out at QB. He’s got a strong arm, is accurate and mobile and would have been the Raven’s starter had it not been for an injury. He WANTS to be the starter and I predict would be interested in Oakland. we could also get him at minimal cost (draft pick wise).

Watching Frye on Sunday was as bad as watching the Colts “turtle” with Painter. If you put Frye & Painter together, you STILL would not have a serviceable NFL QB. When you stare down your intended receiver in the NF friggin’ L, well..that’s bad enough! But when you have a pop-gun for arm strength, you are DOOMED to throw multiple ints every game. The DBs make Frye THINK he’s got an open man. They bait Frye into throwing at them so they can pick his weakass throw off. Frye is showing why every other team dumped him. Instead of making $400K/yr (or whatever it is), Frye should be making minimum wage at Safeway or Kinney Shoes. Guaranteed loss for the Raiders this week. Guaranteed Frye throws more than 1 int. In fact, let’s start the under/over at 1.5 ints for Frye. What say Ye, Raider Nation? Over or Under?

  • Raider12

i cannot understand if you have three of the best running backs in the nfl why you do not use them more .the wide recivers they have are rookies except for schiling and the tight end miller. and why they cannot stop the run that has been a problem for years. they have the players with exception of the quarterback they have problems which i know is the biggest problem. but there are plenty of back up qbs they could get to solve that problem. remember rich gannon what he done you should never draft a qb in the first round.
