I mean you want a guy to be confident, and not a downer.

But a little dose of reality and humility would do this coach/team/organization a lot of good.

What’s next, our president is going to give himself a B+……..

No kidding, I mean just look at Russell…what is he thinking when he sees his unqualified worthless HC stand up at the press conference and declare that he is sometimes exceptional? Russell must think to himself, hey, that is what I have been saying all along about myself!!!! lol

Kudos to Cam Inman for writing what no one has wanted to say this season: Richard Seymour has been an average player for the Raiders.

Seymour has only 4 sacks — and 2 in the last 14 games. He does not regularly pressure the passer and has had little impact on the run defense.

Seymour says: “You can’t run on my side,” but it’s simply not true. There have been plenty of runs to the (offensive) left side for big yardage this season.

Belichick knew what he was doing (as usual) and Big Al did not (as usual).

Big Al will overpay Seymour for next year. And Raider Nation will cringe when the Pats use our top pick in 2011.

But, hey, Big Al would have blown the pick, anyway, on a safety who can’t play or a receiver who can’t catch.

“I think at times an exceptional job and at times an average job. I look at it that way, kind of nothing in between really. As I said, that has to get better, too.”
    ________________

I was actually embarrassed for the guy when I watched him say that at his press conference. Normally I would think that he is just angling to keep his job, but I think this buffoon truly believes what he said!
    ===========================================
When they hired him, I liked the idea of bringing a positive attitude to the club. It was long overdue.
But when someone can’t tell the difference between good and bad results, and just gives out praise, then that becomes a problem.
Cable has reached that stage, where you can’t believe what comes out of his mouth. It’s just hot air.

Nothing about the Oakland Raiders 2009 offense, except for Bruce’s 4th quarter against the Steelers, has been anything close to “Exceptional”.

We haven’t even been “average” most of the time.

Cable says all these things he wants Russell to do, and than steps up to the podium and does exactly what he shouldn’t do.

I think we will look back and laugh at the great marriage of CAble-Russell for 2009. Could these two buffoons lived up to their stereotypes any more?

Cable looks the part of a stubborn, dumb, unsophisticated grunt, who beats coaches and as we found out women.

Russell shows up opening night, rocking 2 fat diamonds in his ears, a closely cropped mohawk and a big beer belly.

    What a couple of tools!!!

I hate ALL other nfl teams, but i hate the chargers the most. so any team that gets into the playoffs needs to beat them.

    Nice observation.

Seymour may have dropped from his ‘elite’ level, and Al was stuck in the past. (Seems oddly familiar).

Burgess has 26 tackles and 4 sacks.

Seymour has 41 tackles and 4 sacks.

Different positions and roles, and the Pats D is slightly worse than it was last year, and the Raiders might be slighly better than last year.

Neither guy made much of an impact.

  • los raiders de don rober

My picks for next year’s head coach:
    1) Randy Hanson (has been groomed by Davis himself)
    2) Sanjay Lal (his development of DHB speaks for itself)
    3) Art Shell, Joe Bugel, or something of the sort.

It will always be an excuse.
McDaniel goes into Denver and cleans house. Guts the team.
He takes a year to figure out what works and what doesn’t, then he’s held accountable.
If Cable were the actual head coach, he would have gutted the team in the off-season.
He’s not allowed to gut the team. He’s only allowed to tweak it. Do a little fine tuning.
He’s only there to call bad plays, yell at the O-line and give waffling press conferences.

I think DHB is the most negative minded receiver I have ever heard. He doesn’t say ” I want to do this…”
    or ” I’m going to do that…”
He speaks in double negatives. His mindset is totally negative. No wonder he’s dropping everything that’s thrown his way.
    ZERO CONFIDENCE.

I’m sure it must drive Murphy crazy to listen to DHB. The captain of a two-time national championship team. A team that basically ‘willed’ their way to the titles.

    408,

Do you think he can be worse than Cable? The only HC who was worse than Cable was Art. Every HC we had in the last 10 years was better than Cable and Art, and we had a lot of Coaches in the last 10 years. 6 HCs!

  • http://atm Raider O

    408,

Jim Fassel wants the Job. I think he can be better than Cable.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

Richard Seymour was an upgrade to anyone we would have put in his place. And for that reason he is worth the money. The Raider D-Line has been absolute garbage for 7 years now. This year it was actually below average for a change.

Get a 2-down lane clogging NT this year, and the D-Line can actually become a contributor.

Seymour was an excellent pickup. Much better than the bust cornerback we would have selected next year had Davis kept the pick!

Draft the NT or trade the 1st rounder next year for Shaun Rogers. Yeah, I know, he isn’t worth a 1st rounder, but then again, the bust that Davis drafts in April won’t be either. At least Rogers will give us some production.

With Ellis, Bryant, Rogers, Seymour, Shaughnessy and Scott…with Kelly or Warren rotating in…the Raiders will have a good D-Line.

Please Al Davis, trade the top10 pick this year. YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT YOU ARE DOING WHEN IT COMES TO DRAFTING IN THE 1ST ROUND! — Bates, Buchanon, Washington, Gallery, Huff, Russell, DMAC, DHB….lets not add to the list!

    =====================================
They can get a good HC in there. First step, “know your enemy.”
As long as the new coach preaches the gospel of Al, he will get a chance.
“Throw deep, vertical game, speed kills, man-to-man D, etc.”
He can do what he wants, as long as he can convince Al that he’s running things the “Raider way.”
Gruden did just that. He ran a short passing offence and won with it; But he spoke like he was playing Raider football.

  • RaiderfanNY

If Big Al keeps running the show, it doesn’t matter who the coach/puppet is.

He can put Cable or Jim Fassel or Tracy Jordan out there and we’ll still lose.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

    408,

Jim Fassel would be the coach to select once Cable is fired.

If Russell is back, which I believe you are correct in saying, then they might as well scrap the WCO and go to a more downfield attack. Russell and Losman are better suited for that offense and that’s what Davis wants anyway….even if he doesn’t admit it.

Fassell got Kerry Collins to a Super Bowl with a power running attack of Ron Dayne and Tiki Barber.

Quite frankly, I just want Cable fired. I think he’s the worst coach the Raiders have hired in the last 20 years

  • 4evaRaider

    =============================
Now you’re getting it. You need an actor at HC. Someone convincing enough to get Al to beleive they are playing ‘Raider’ football, when they’re actually doing something different. (Alec Baldwin is also an option)

  • jhill

There’s no doubt that Cable is running HIS offense out there.

And there is no doubt that Marshall is running HIS defense.

Problem is Cable just isn’t doing a good job of using his personell and calling plays. Not ONE of the young guys have developed under Cable. From DMAC, Russell, JLH, Bush, to DHB. Nothing!

Good mornin 4eva, Snb, O, 408, Pete, NATION!!

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

Davis should trade every 1st and 2nd round pick for actual players or more picks in the 3rd – 7th rounds.

Davis drafts these guys to big money contracts and they let him down.

Draft the 3rd to 7th rounders and get the Height/Weight/Speed guys that will work hard each and every day.

Remember during camp…..Louis Murphy attends Russell’s “Passing Camp….LOL” while DHB couldn’t be bothered. Both were not under contract at the time.

To quote Mike Singletary….”I want winners!”

  • los raiders de don rober

I find it strange that Fassell never got another HC job. does anyone have any ideas why he hasn’t landed any where else?

  • jhill

And I just can’t get past the Oline being the worst unit on the field. Cable should really be ashamed of that! How is it that we do not have ONE backup OG on the roster? WTF is he doing?

SnB, re post 141. I offered the same idea prior to this year’s draft. Make al trade his 1st & 2nd round picks for a bunch of later picks, and let him sign a ton of combine freaks. At least 2 or 3 will turn out bargains.

To be fair, Louis Murphy seized the day, Mario Henderson has matured into a decent starter…not Pro Bowl or anything..but has brought some stability to a key position……Zach Miller has continued to grow….

If the Coach had let Bush run the ball more, he would have had a top 10 running back IMO…also, Brandon Myers should have seen a lot more time…..

In the end, Cable has to go. AS you said, his personnel groupings are inexplicable and I don’t see it getting better next year.

In fact, if CAble stays, I see Bush and JLH being shown the door. While DHB plays while Murphy is the slot receiver…Because there is a good chance of this happening….Cable needs to go

  • jhill

    SnB,

The leader of the team has to be the HC! Like Sapp said when Cable was first hired, Cable couldn’t lead a bunch of ants to a picnic! Turns out he was right!

I hope Jack Del Rio gets fired! I’d like to see a guy like that, or even Brian Billick coach the Raiders!

Get Harbaugh in here today for an interview!

for those of you who adhere to the idea that continuity of coaches and system is the best way to get something going in positive manner for the Raiders – if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, but if it is broke either fix it or get a new one. failed coaches and flawed systems are not reparable. auld lang syne baby, in with the new.
