Lechler, Asomugha selected

No surprises in the Pro Bowl selections. Punter Shane Lechler and cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha were selected from the Raiders Tuesday to represent the AFC.

Asomugha will start at cornerback along with Darrelle Revis of the New York Jets. Sebastian Janikowski, penalized in part because of his team’s anemic offense, did not make the team. San Diego’s Nate Kaeding, with 138 points, is the AFC kicker.

A Raiders press release said tight end Zach Miller and defensive end Richard Seymour were selected as alternates, meaning they could end up going to Miami for the game if another player or two at his position were to be injured.

With the cheap coaches Al hires you need professional players who need no development for this team to succeed. The last time we were any good at developing talent Gunther Cunningham was our D-line coach and we were developing linemen like Chester Mc, Laroy Glover, and D. Coleman…

  • CaptainBlack

    Hayes, KK is not posting?

  • los raiders de don rober

With the money we have tied up with the 1st round busts, Kelly & Nnamdi I don’t think Al is looking for Megadelas…Al has was always been good at finding late round gems in the draft, let him get back to basics…

  • CaptainBlack

Kelly has not played the way a man paid 50 million dollars should play. A significant portion of that money should go to Seymour.

  • hellsbells

If we could get Wilfork who do we keep as the three tech. I almost perfer Warren at the three over Kelly. Kelly never gets any penetration any more.

  • raidertbone

Make a trade for Wilfork, bring in Johnny Jolly (via free agency) and draft Dunlap (the fast, strong end with a nasty attitude). Then, we’d have Seymour, Ellis, Jolly, Wilfork and Dunlap up front — not to mention Shaugnessy. That would turn around our defense real quick!

  • hellsbells

Buy the way Warren is going to make more then Kelly next year.

  • los raiders de don rober

Cut Warren & Kelly. Draft some huge DTs, and bring in the best D-line coach money can buy…you’ll save a ton of money Al.

  • HayesDaze37

Chaz Schilens may become a star WR…but he isn’t.
JLH is far from becoming a star WR…maybe regressing?
Murphy has juice…can he be for real, long-term?
DHB may be a star someday…a bust he isn’t. YET.
    Watkins, Miller, anyone else…?

NO obvious playmakers, just potential. The Raiders need a proven, un-injured veteran WR added to the mix…along with another late-round gem. (Yes, Al actually makes some good finds — this decade even!)

Love Nnamdi. But imagine if we could trade him for both of SF firts rounders this year. We could rebuid our D and O-line in one year. We would have picks somewhere around 9, 11, and 13 in an uncapped year. We could take Mcoy DT, Williams RT, and McClain MLB. Round two the OG from Idaho. Huge upgrade. As long as Nnamdi is not shadowing the others team best wideout we might as well move him. If used correctly never make this trade.

    Any comments

  • raidertbone

We can’t worry about who is going to make the most money — we just have to worry about who is going to show up to play, vs. just showing up to get paid (which is the same mentality that Daniel Snyder has carved out over here in D.C.)

  • RaiderRockstar

could we trade Huff and a 3rd rounder to Baltimore in exchange for Derrick Mason & Troy Smith?

I love Mike Huff, but he scheduled to make over 5 million next year and they drafted Mike Mitchell for a reason

Hellsbells. Al has 25 plus years building teams through free agency, never through the draft. Trade out of the 1st round. Gimme Boldin, Hines Ward, someone who produces, is a tough mfkr and is a leader in the locker room.

Why in the h- would we want Derrick Mason? The wide open TD pass he dropped against Pittsburgh looked just like DHB all over again. At least with our rookie we have speed and (hopefully) the chance to get better.
Troy Smith would do no better in this offensive scheme than either Grad-man or Frye-daddy.

  • los raiders de don rober

Remember when we brought in Romanowski? Lott? Eric Turner? Jerry Rice? Eric Allen? Albert Lewis? every one though they were done, they gave us some 3 great seasons and did wonders for the locker room.

  • jhill

Mike Huff is the best Single deep S on the roster. Itg would be insane to trade that guy. Best DB we have next to Nnamdi.

  • CaptainBlack

Rockstar, why would you trade a player is his prime for Derrick Mason, who is set to retire after the season?

  • HayesDaze37

Most guys worth keeping after next year will be renegotiated with…some before the season even starts.

An uncapped year coming…with owners tightening belts, and no guarantee of a thriving economy in ’11…means the players (read: non-superstars) better make wise and safe financial decisions next year.

Huff, JaMarcus (regardless what he says)…any number of guys will be renegotiating to longer, if not more profitable, contracts that keep them in jobs.

I thought Mason was only going to retire because of his friend Steve McNair’s death?

then he changed his mind and rejoined the Ravens a week later.

    Mason: 72 catches, 1005 yards & 7 TD’s

would you guys rather keep Javon Walker for a vet mentor?

  • HayesDaze37

Derrick Mason had to be talked out of retirement this year.

NO Derrick Mason, no matter how good he is.

  • raidertbone

I think it’s safe to say when can lay any talk about Javon to rest … talk about Mr. Irrelevant!

  • los raiders de don rober

I think Javon is the exception to the rule. Al is pretty good at signing vets. He desperately signed Javon after the Moss disaster…

  • HayesDaze37

Romanowski was a bad add…with a bad attitude. No matter what fire he brought to the field, he got burned all too often because he was slow. Slow and nasty doesn’t mean good. Sorry Romo was ever brought in, and wasn’t sorry when he checked out none-too-soon.

Romo was no Raider…he was a loner, hated throughout the league, and even in his own locker room.

  • raidertbone

We missed a wonderful opportunity to bring in Brian Dawkins last year. We also had a chance to pull a few strings and bring in Anquan Boldin. Oh well, that’s all behind us; hopefully, any great chance we have in the offseason will be jumped on quickly — including re-structuring J-Fat’s contract.

3 Raiders are at the bottom of the heap in catch percentage but this has more to do with Russell than anything else. Notice the drops. Only a small percentage of those passes actually hit their hands. And we know Murphy was robbed on at least 1 catch.

  • RaiderRockstar

Satele, Carlisle & Green need to be replaced as starters on the O-Line. that should be task #1 for Cable & crew this offseason.

Give Sanjay Lal a job in the scouting dept or something. the guy has zero credentials to be a WR coach. is James Lofton still under contract? If not, get somebody else in here with EXPERIENCE. replace Javon with another vet WR. Why didn’t we make a play for Amani Toomer, Ike Hilliard or Joey Galloway? Chris Chambers would have been nice too.

Warren & Kelly need to take drastic paycuts just to stay on the team imo. for sure they aren’t starters unless a freak injury occurs or something. also need some bulk at LB. a run stuffing monster at MLB and a physical pass rushing freak at one OLB spot

I’m fine with a Russell/Gradkowski/Frye/Losman competition at QB next year as long as the best man wins, even if it isn’t the highest paid!

I wish you could’ve seen Russell in New York (actually, I don’t wish that on ANY Raiders fan — it would make you vomit). I don’t think I have ever in my life seen an NFL quarterback who stunk up the field so bad and then just casually walked off the field and sluffed it off … pretty much for the entire game. I don’t care what kind of arm and/or potential J-Fat may have — the impression I got then has stuck with me … he did-in the entire team and (metaphorically) shot the finger at Raider Nation. He’s done!

nobody is going to give Bruce friggin Gradkowski starter money fellas. I’m sorry to burst your bubbles. not unless it’s Al Davis. Graddy had 2 good games and 2 awful ones. The fact that he outplayed Jamarcus doesn’t really stand out to anybody else. Russell is/was the worst starting QB in the NFL. Graddy is a journeyman. 3 teams in the last 3 years. Browns & Bucs didn’t even want to keep him as a 3rd string guy. Raiders chose him instead of Garcia to backup JR because he wasn’t a threat. he wasn’t even considered competition. he only got a chance to play because JR proved to be a sack of trash. Graddy proved he has some worth coming off the bench for a few games, but a 16 game starter? doubtful he’s on anybody’s wish list unless they are looking for a #2 QB
    =======================================================
Everyone on here needs to read the above post from Rockstar. Right on point.

You guys are crazy to just hand this Gradkowski fellow starter money and the job….and have faith this guy is going to do anything.

3 teams in 3 years….A couple of decent games. This has happened before. Even JT O’Sullivan had a few good games for the 49ers…..

once coaches game plan him, I doubt he holds up.

Get some real deal competition and make this journeyman earn the job.

Beating out JaMarcus Russell means nothing. NOTHING!

  • jhill

Dawkins would not have played any better than Branch has.

Gallery going down in week 2 left us with Chris Morris, Satele, Carlisle and Pears on the Oline.

McFadden going down in the Houston game?

Just an unfortunate year starting with the Chaz and Nick Miller injuries, and snowballing from there.

  • SouthernStyle

As much as i would love Gruden to coach here, i don’t see it happening. Here’s why,

    1) Al won’t pay the money he could get other places.(ie to the Snyder in Washington)

    2) Gruden will bench underperforming players which are Al’s 1st round picks from the past 3 years. Al’s not having that, ask Kiffin how that worked out.

    3) If he leaves the booth he could have almost any vacant head coach job he pleases. So why here in Oak? He could have the job at U of F right now with total control if he wanted to go that route.

Terdell Sands…LOL…some people on here thought he could play…..

Warren and Kelly need to go to the bench or be cut too!

Get a real NT in here that clogs the running lanes and lets the linebackers run free.

A great line can make a mediocre LB okay.

A great LB can’t do jack for a bad D-Line

Inside out is how to build. Until this Owner of ours figures that out, expect more 29 -32 ranked run defenses!

  • jhill

    LOL, SnB …

Funny thing is, Grads didn’t even beat out Jamarcus. Jamarcus LOST the job, Grads didn’t win it.

I will say that Grads should be brought back and given a shot at the title. Let Grads, Russell, and Losman COMPETE for the starters job and may the best man win.

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

    Also, STOP THE GRUDEN TALK!

What on earth is motivating this talk. He already said he isn’t coaching next year. Do you think he’s going to coach for Al Davis? Really? Do you pay attention?

Davis WILL NOT let his coaches pick the starting lineup, select their assistants, have any meaningful input into the draft and free agency and DAVIS WILL NOT pay the head coach market rates.

Give it up and focus on guys like Fassell and Gilbride.

That’s all DAvis can attract because of his FOOLISH managerial philosophy.

  • RaiderRockstar

Just an unfortunate year starting with the Chaz and Nick Miller injuries, and snowballing from there.

    ***

Jhill: injuries are a part of the game. Gradkowski & Zach Miller’s hurt too.

Cable’s play calling and even Marshall’s at times was atrocious. cost us some games.

penalties continue to plague this team and we’re losing games we should win. no excuses for any of that

Javon Walker in the doghouse? Bush 3rd on the depth chart? terrible value for picks in the draft!

I’m not blaming INJURIES for our failures, past or present

  • RaiderRockstar

    repost –

    my appologies to S&B Defense.

I blamed 90 percent of the run defense on Rob Ryan last offseason. clearly Robbo still can’t stop the run in Cleveland, but we sure don’t have the players here in Oakland to get the job done either. I still think Marshall & Co were an improvement on defense, but HOW MUCH of one isn’t that glaring.

we should have drafted BJ Raji, even though Crabtree would fit nicely here (looking at DHB as the alternative)

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

    Jhill,

Agreed! The only thing Gradkowski earned is a right to compete next year. The right to be invited to camp to compete.

JT O’Sullivan, Ryan Fitzpatrick, hell even Derek Anderson have had a run or two here and there….but they aren’t freekn starters!

2 or 3 gms don’t mean jack at all.

And stop calling him “Grads”….he hasn’t earned a nickname yet.

I refuse to get excited about mediocre talent

  • jhill

Injuries were a PART of the problem. Big difference between Gallery and Walker playing LG versus Chris Morris getting blown outta there. No coincidence the difference between the Washington game and the Denver game as far as why Morris was benched.

Chaz not being in there from day 1?

Cornell Greens BACKUP having to play?

    Morrison dislocated elbow?

    Nick Miller not returning kicks?

All those things didn’t matter? Of course injuries are a part of the game, and they also impact whether you can compete or not.

And yes Cable was bad A LOT this season, and Marshall early on. No argument there.
