Cable plans on being back

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, January 4th, 2010 at 12:44 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Raiders coach Tom Cable said at his season-ending press briefing he has spoken to owner Al Davis and will be talking with him again next week.

He said the subject of his job secruity was not addressed and would simply fulfull his duties while under contract until told differently.

Cable, as well as a few players in the locker room that included Bruce Gradkowski, Zach Miller and Robert Gallery,, expessed optimism regarding the direction of the team. Players available supported his return.

A few other quick hits, with more details to come later:

– JaMarcus Russell and Richard Seymour were not at the final team meeting. Cable said both were excused absences for personal reasons.

– Cable conceded he may have spread himself too thin and sounded open to delegating some duties _ including play-calling _ if postseason analysis proves that would be the right path.

– Gallery’s surgery fused vertebra, widened the spinal canal, cleaned out calcium desposits and he expects to be fine by training camp.

Much more to come later. . .

leach wtf we’ll regress, nonsense, the losses have gone to your head, and messes with your judgement i disagree with that one.

    Dogg,

    What about Harbaugh from Stanford?

  • mistic1

del rio is average. The book is out on him and its written in stone. Del Rio is a defensive guy but his defense has not been very good the last few years. I really like marshall and I think he should get his shot at selecting guys that will fit his vision. i thiink as the year went on we got to see more of what he brings to the table. What hurts him is the weak play of d tackles and lb’s, morrisson in paticular. Lots of tackles but very little impact. Morrisson is consitantly out of position, and he’s another guy that the team does not respond to. All sizzle and no steak.

  • CaptainBlack

4eva, thanks for the demotion, but it should be YOU! Al spent 30 million dollars and wasted a 1st round pick on a guy who can’t catch! Al also loved TE Andrew Glover’s speed but he could not catch.

Yeah i heard that too but I know Al chose him too i mean cmon super fast guy Davis likes fast guys, Davis convincd Cable and cable said “yeah good idea he is fast can stretch the field , Home Run threat.” although I am concerned about his hands.” Davis: dont worry about it he’ll catch on.” Hence, Al had the finall say anyways.”

I just go by what is said, I never assume what was said behind closed doors. Cable said what he said, either he’s a lying lap dog or a poor judge of talent. Either way, doesn’t look good on his resume.

    Dogg,

    What about Harbaugh from Stanford?”

I would be ok with that for sure, but I don’t see it happening. Harbaugh is in line to get any job that he wants in the next couple of years after what he has done at Stanford.

  • raider91

Yeah lets intall the Spread Offense bring on leach.

  • CaptainBlack

Barnwell averaged 17 yds a catch, but he only caught 115 passes! How about Calvin Muhammed? I guess you going to write he was a stud too?

Leach compared to Cable is an offensive genius. It’s about results right?

I am not saying Leach is my favorite pick to be HC, but i know, based on how well Texas Tech has done under Leach as opposed to how Idaho did when Cable was coach I don’t need to look any further.

Cable is a scrub who was lucky enough to be on the staff when Lance was fired.

Basically I wholeheartedly disagree with you that Cable would be better for the Raiders than Leach.

  • M Lonetree

    Raider O,

JRuss is up to JRuss. No coach in the world can get through to anyone who already thinks they are okay as they are. But, a powerful kick in the a$$ might get his attention.

  • mistic1

cable cant tell players to do the right things with out uproarious laughter coming back at him. when you punch a coach in the face, beat up women, and get blown out every other week, you get no respect, your rodney dangerfield. Leach would have the same issue, you just got fired for mistreating student athletes, your former players are split, some support you some hate you. How could leach possibly handle the guys here in oakland when you couldnt handle texas tech. what a joke.

  • http://atm Raider O

Harbaugh likes Al from what I read, so why not? If he has an ego like Kittin, he can be the man who brings the Raiders back. Also maybe Al likes him enough to give him more control than other coaches.

  • raider91

Spread Offense? Genious? In the NFL?

  • CaptainBlack

Correction 4eva, the TE was Ethan Horton. Al loved his speed, but speed means nothing if you can’t catch the ball. Try and spin this one 4eva!

The spread offense makes a lot of sense, especially if they keep JaMarcus at QB. He would be much more comfortable playing mostly out of the shotgun, considering how much he did at LSU.

Look at Alex Smith. Played in a spread offense in college and didn’t have any success with the 9ers until this year when they implented a spread type of offense.

  • 4evaRaider

Dogg,no I dont think he was….But 1st off the bat it’s not my or your money.Once DHB starts clearing out zones Dmac Chaz and Murphy will shine, let alone Zach….As soon as DHB catches a few balls,30 million will seem like a bargain, imo

  • M Lonetree

The DHB home run threat doesn’t bother me half as much as the singles hitter McF.
Not all receivers are gonna get it the first year in the NFL, but a RB should be able to translate directly and immediately from the college ranks.

Props to Peter King for voting Janikowski, in addition to Lechler, to the All-Pro team. Even though Seabass was a Pro Bowl snub, hopefully the All-Pro voters — which is a more prestigous honor because it includes players from both conferences on a single team — who should be paying more attention than the average fan voting for the Pro Bowl will reward Seabass for his excellent season.

Leach also couldnt get along with his boss, even after he got his extension, no way he can work for Davis in any role. Leach would be a disaster.

Exactly, although Stanford won’t be able to keep him for much longer. Some NFL team will pony up the cash to outbid Stanford for his services. Plus Harbaigh has already made it very clear that the NFL is his ultimate destination. I just don’t see the Raiders being that team.

  • CaptainBlack

Since DHB can’t catch, he is not a good decoy, just a wasted pick. The film on him does not lie. 4eve, you are a joke!

RaiderDogg, Doesn’t Spread O compromise the Protection? Haven’t seen much of it up close just heard of it by analysts that say “it sucks and Tim Tebow sucks wont be good in NFL cuz he only good at sprea O”.

It does limit protection to a certain extent, although it forces the defense to spread out as well. Plus, considering the lack of protection all of the qb’s got this season, I think a change is in order. Maybe not the spread offense, but certainly a different play caller for starters.

  • CaptainBlack

Raiders 91, that’s was the next excuse 4eva would use to justify DHB’s pick.

Morrison will be a FA next year. Either re-sign him, slide him over to the weakside and draft Brandon Spikes to play MLB or let him walk and still draft Brandon Spikes :)

  • Thec07

    WR’s to keep
Murphy = Best WR we have is a BADASS…
    Chaz = Good WR
JLH = Finnally got the cobb webs cleared…
DMAC = dual reality for him, split time hear and RB…
NMiller = remains to be seen, could be our welker…

  • crister

i’d have to imagine that one of the conditions for cable to come back would be to give up the offensive play calling.

  • r8eray

Morrison is a FA! DHB only has 1 year, give him 2 more!
    The rest I agree!

  • 4evaRaider

wanna talk about Eathan Horton privateblack?

  • Thec07

RaiderDogg, what up Brother… I say we let him walk. He is useless as a MLB. I am not really high on Spikes.
But i will say we should take the best avail OL/MLB/DT… Take the best availbe player that fills one of those needs.

If the organization remains the same, we will either take a SS, CB, or usain bolt…

I would be happy with DMac being converted to a WR and using Michael Bush as our starting RB. The Raiders should use DMac similar to the way Percy Harvin is used in Minnesota.
