Gannon offers to help

Assuming he can get past John Herrera, Rich Gannon would like to return and offer advice to his former team.

Rich Gannon, a blunt and direct critic of the Raiders play in his role as a CBS analyst and host of a Sirius Satellite Radio show, said on the air he has placed a call to Al Davis.

“I did something yesterday that I can’t believe even I did. I picked up the phone and I reached out to Al Davis,” Gannon said on the Sirius Blitz. “So I called Mr. Davis, I have not spoken with him yet, but I’m happy to help out in any way I can. I’d love to help JaMarcus Russell if he wants help. I’d love to help Tom Cable and that organization. It’s important. Listen, seven straight seasons where they’ve lost 11 or more games? Something’s not right.”

When Gannon was scheduled for a production meeting in Alameda before a game against Denver, Herrera said Gannon was unwelcome and the Raiders considered trying to ban him from the facility before they realized they couldn’t.

“He seems to be a guy who can’t get over the fact that he played the worst Super Bowl in the history of the game and he wants to blame everybody but himself,” Herrera said on Sept. 26. “I guess it’s our fault he threw five interceptions.”

Gannon has said several times he has no interest in coaching but has worked with quarterbacks in Minnesota and Tampa Bay by request.

Gannon replaced by Bobby Hoying in that Ravens Raiders Championship game…what a dark day…the kid did ok against one of the toughest defenses in history and actually moved the ball, but to no avail…

  • mistic1

Why waste time with gruden gannon fantasies it won’t happen. With a good o- line and running game we will have something to build on. Although I love the idea of someone helping no.2 this off season so he hits the ground running. This is even more important with a new coach/ system coming in.

……….Raiders senior executive John Herrera declined to comment on Gannon’s offer.

….Herrera did respond to a report that Russell was at a Las Vegas casino the day after being excused from an end-of-season team meeting for personal reasons. Herrera said Russell’s absence was excused for legitimate reasons and the team had “no issue” with him being in Las Vegas.

The coaching staff is spending this week evaluating the team following a 5-11 season. Cable will meet with Davis next Monday to discuss his fate as coach.”

Looks like Al is backing Russell again…bad news for all of us…including Cable.

I want Cable AND Russell gone.

  • mistic1

As much as I can’t stand cable, at least if he comes back no.2 will be in a position to prove himself. Simply besuase he won’t have to learn a whole new system…. again. Don’t look now but the kid might be getting it.

  • M Lonetree

    Cap’n Black,

Cable staying? you mean delaying or stopping or tacking or ceasing or being like a corset? I hope he is in Vegas doing his imitation of a corset.

Cronyism as opposed to Sycophantism as opposed to Oligarchism as opposed to Plutocracism – oh crap, I was digressing into how all power structures of government and corporations (as the NFL) are run. Sorry KoolKell, you were presupposing that the Raiders are unique in this regard. My bad.
    =============================
It’s very easy and ignorant to say, oh well everybody is doing it. When it’s very obvious not everybody is losing at the rate the Raiders are.

  • CaptainBlack

Why would the Raiders allow JaMarcus swoop to Vegas, while the rest of the team remained for final physicals and a team meeting? I guess he played so well he deserved a break.

Gannon could be a good coach and a great help to JaMarcus, but he’s delusional if he thinks Al is going to welcome him with open arms after just trying to lock him out of the building a few short weeks ago.

The raiders are giving this kid every chance to make it. You paid him a ton of money and he is supremley talented. You must do everything in you power to help him turn it around. Besides he is not a guy that beats women, gets arrested, or fights pit bulls. Once no.2 decides and learns how to handle the off season like a pro, look out. If I were Davis I would hire a consultant to deal with no.2. Let him have a few weeks to chill, then bring him back to alameda, to prepare. This would include a physical training regimen, as well as a daily study session in order to know the offense backward and forward.

I am going to hire a general manager. I know you guys know this, very few teams, none that I’ve been associated with, with high powered personnel people or presidents or whatever you want to call them, does the guy come in, pound the desk and say, ‘We are taking this guy and I don’t care what anybody thinks.’

“There’s one team I can think of that does that, but no one else. If we have a general manager, and I will be involved, absolutely involved, but as to actually who says, ‘We are going to pick this guy on draft day,’? Right now, I couldn’t tell you.”

I shouldn’t post right after games cuz I’ve ripped Russell a time or two, but for the most part,I’m in this kids corner. I think he’s going to be a great QB someday, I just hope its for the Raiders and not Denver…

Talent? HE’S GOT A MASSIVE ARM..that’s it, you fool. He has ZERO positive skills..none..and here you are running that ignorant crap?
I told you..your melt downs are legendary, and your manlove is embarrassing.

And “I think he’s going to be a great qb someday”??

THAT MAKES YOU OFFICIALLY DUMBER THAN COTTON.

He will never be a mediocre qb..much less a great qb.

but..here’s MY GUARANTEE..YOU’LL BE ON HERE, WITH PRIEST, AND SMAC, MAKING WHINING EXCUSE AFTER EXCUSE ON WHY IT’S NOT JR’S FAULT THAT HE’S OUT OF FOOTBALL…
    That I guarantee.

    Oh..and here’s another one..because you’re so embarrassed, you’ll change your name.

“I TRULY AM DUMBER THAN COTTON”…lol!

  • mistic1

Gannon was a noodle armed journey man with run of the mill talent at best. Before he was a raider he also was prone to bone headed mistakes. This is why he couldn’t beat out Sean Salisbury, and I think it was Elvis grbac in kc. I will never say he was a great qb. However he had an incredible work ethic, and was always prepared. He new everyones assignment on every play. This part of leadership is what no2 has yet to learn. This is done in the off season. This may not happen, but don’t put it past the old man. Davis will always do what you least expect. I would be happy with anyone Davis brings in to fill this role. Even Gannon.

  • los raiders de don rober

Al does do things we least expect. He hired Norval Turner, Art Shell and Tom Walsh; he traded Gruden because Gruden wanted a little more cash and some independence; he fired Tom Flores and ran off Madden. Nice!

  • Silver-n-Smac

    Hey Richocrap (a.k.a. Pile-o-Crap)

Let me ask you something chipmunk. . .

If the Raiders, with Al Davis & Tom Cable, go 9-7 or 10-6 next season and make the playoffs for the first time in 8 years, what will you say at that point?

That is exactly what is going to happen next season.

I don’t know who our starting QB will be and I really don’t care. But, the results will be good.

And I truly can’t wait to see you squirm like the little biotch that you are.

  • MTraidernation

anyone of you who doesn’t respect rich gannon and what he did for this organization should turn in your card. the 5-6 years he played in oakland he was arguably the best and most consistent QB in the league. a lot of you meatheads forget who his bad super bowl performance was against. had the raiders played ANY OTHER team besides the gruden-led bucs, you hacks who rip on him would be singing his praises. you are probably the same guys who thought kerry collins was awesome.

    i’ll take a smart, hard-working, “noodle-armed” QB like gannon over jamarcus “i-can-throw-the-ball-80-yards” russell 100 times out of a 100

  • Silver-n-Smac

The only part of my post above that is yet to be determined is Cable still being here.

I have no idea if he’s gonna get canned or not, but, I hope he’ll still be here.

He’s a good coach. Maybe not a great play-caller but a good head coach.

  • CaptainBlack

Silver-N-Smac, nobody wants to see Cable back. You didn’t either a few days ago, so why the change?
