UPDATED: Hurry up and wait . . .

No news out of Alameda as yet, where coach Tom Cable is supposed to meet with Al Davis and presumably be informed his tenure as the 17th coach of the Raiders has ended after winning nine times in 28 games.

Of course, events seldom transpire in a timely manner where the Raiders are concerned.

Raiders senior executive John Herrera said “it’s been a very quiet day” and wasn’t aware of a meeting between Davis and Cable today.

During his season-ending press conference, the day after a 21-13 loss to Baltimore, Cable said he talked to Davis that morning and added “We’ll talk again next week.”

When asked if it would be Monday, Cable said, “Sometime next week.”

Will check in with more information as (or if) it becomes available . . .

    from PFT

Per a league source, Davis currently consults with senior executive John Herrera, director of college scouting Jon Kingdon, and general counsel Jeff Birren. That trio primarily tells Davis what they think Davis wants to hear. So if Davis wants to fire Cable, they’ll support it. And if Davis doesn’t want to fire Cable, they’ll support it.

    ^^^^^^^^^^
Yep….just Al Davis’ cronies trying to keep their NFL job, since they wouldn’t work for any other NFL team.

I think Moss was just a perfunctory Rooney rule interviewee, like Lofton before him.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I am not so sure about that. He would have made a way better coach than tom cable, he is the kinda coach that will kick a guys A$$ if he gets out of line….

  • Raider guy

Like Singletary? I already see the shine tarnishing on that guy.

  • Thec07

We need a GM first…. Let the GM work out how he runs the ORG….. First order of business after Mr. Davis retires is to get all the information from the lackeys,
yes men, and hangers on then fire them all…..

This is why these cronies of Al’s do all they can to please the old man.

If a REAL GM/Personnel Man is hired with a REAL HC like Harbaugh, then Herrera, Kingdon, Birren know damn well, they are all FIRED!

I disagree Thec. At best, Lofton comes across like Dungy. More of an intellectual ass kicker, while this team needed a firm leader.

Cable has, if nothing else, change the “stupidest team” attitude. Now we just have the stupidest upper management.

  • Thec07

    Jon Kingdon…….ROFLMAO…… what a waste….

Mr. Davis if you fire anyone fire these bootlick yes men that surround you….

Moss is a bit of a stretch. Al will need to make a big splash (on several fronts) to fill the seats.

Exactly, Herrera is doing his best to discourage Al from hiring a GM.

Those Eagles and Bengals fans are crazy. Calling out their QBs like that. I would be overjoyed if the Raiders could get Palmer or McNabb. Period…after watching some of the worst QB play in NFL history in each of the last 7 years……….having a Palmer or McNabb would actually make watching Raider football somewhat enjoyable again.

Tell those Bengal or Eagle fans to walk a mile in our collective shoes.

WE have to worst offense in modern football history

    An incompetent head coach

    Clueless front office

and a roster littered with holes, gaps and problems

Leave it to Al Davis to screw with the media yet again. Lift the dark cloud Al …. There is enough going on in the sporting world… It’s not big head lines any more when the RAIDERS fire a coach! Yeah, Cable probably should be fired but who do think Al will hire? Cable was in way over his head… Probably the worst play call ever. Poor utilization of skill sets. M. Bush consistantley left him 3rd and something manageable yet constantly it was low pecentage throws down the field with an o line that had qb’s running for thier life.
This team has talent at skill positions it just has too many of Al ‘ s pet projects.

True, but SD is winning with a 7 step drop (Norvelle) system. Rivers is an ass, but does have game.

KoolKell has no clue the economy is in the tank but he knows what John Herrera is doing behind closed doors in Alameda.

    Ok KoolKell..

like he has with the fans
    —————————-
This is something new for Al Davis, the fans are not having it anymore. He’s being openly questioned. They had the lowest attendance in the league this year. Only the home opener sold out, barely. 7 straight blackouts.
AND, look for the Opener to be blackout next year, UNLESS CREDIBLE change is perceived by the fans. Period. I think even he has to acknowledge that.

  • Raider guy

I completely agree. That is why making cable makes sense on one hand, but in the bigger picture, AL has to do something bigger than that to right this thing.

  • http://www.Move2Alameda.com KoolKell

The usual Al Davis off-season Dog n’ Pony show will not fly this time. Hiring another Head Coach off the scrap heap, and a flashy FA signing, etc. Is no longer credible. Been doing that for the last 7 years to no avail.

The line has been crossed, the billboards are up, the ads are out, and the tickets are still in the office.

  • Raider guy

Do you remember that “fire that burns brightest is the fire to win” speech he made? I love that he isn’t a bill biwell who never cared about winning but making money. But if that fire is real then EVERYONE has to take a look at what has been going on. Six coaches, all those qbs, coordinators, free agents, drafts. THis is all on Al and no objective observer could argue.

  • Thec07

I was in the bay area last weds on business…Saw the billboard, it was and is a work of art…..

Speaks volumes as to the plight of this once great franchise…..

My favorite team, and the best NFL team ever the 76′ raiders…… But those days are long gone,
Mr. Davis needs to hire a GM and step aside….

Look at who you take information from jon kingdon…
He should hve ben fired during the draft when we took
DHB… Acually he should have been fired for the last several years of draft picks… worst personnel dept in the NFL worst GM, worst Head coach zero OCO…..

  • http://www.Move2Alameda.com KoolKell

I’ve always appreciated the fact that Davis was not a Bidwell type, only interested in profit.

It’s just that his time has passed, simple as that.

I don’t have a problem with him as Owner. Just General Manager.

Actually, as Owner he’s been unable to secure a new stadium for decades. Alienated every municipality on the West Coast.

And quite frankly, he never did it all by himself when the Raiders were great. Ron Wolf, John Madden.
