Raiders live chat on Tuesday, with a new twist
By Jon Becker
Monday, January 18th, 2010 at 7:37 pm in Live chats, Oakland Raiders.
Assuming we hit Day 16 since the end of the regular season and the Raiders haven’t made a definitive statement regarding Tom Cable’s employment, let’s try a different tack with Tuesday’s weekly chat at noon.
Instead of answering the same question several different ways, tell me what you think. Then I’ll tell you whether I think you’re right or wrong. If I’ve written something you think is particularly stupid, have at it. If there’s something I’ve overlooked, tell me what it is and I’ll either defend myself or agree.
Let’s make this week about what you think _ and I’ll chime in. When it comes to what Al Davis is going to do, your guess is probably as good as mine, anyway.

If Al is going to send Cable walking, why is he wasting time? This organization needs to be working right now on improving for 2010.
That Al against the world thing is only working against Al. If Cable is staying, let it be known so he can get to work and start improving. Maybe a FA or two need to know.
I know that is not the M.O. of Davis, but the league is miles ahead of him. Again Al, parity is for the bottom feeders only.

January 18th, 2010 at 7:55 pm
The Senior Bowl is in less than 2 weeks and the much hyped “practices” are in a week.
Do the Raiders seem like they have a plan in place right now to get the most out of the week? Who knows, maybe they do. But Al probably will focus on the combine and forty times.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Jerry, I know exactly what Al Davis is going to do:
He may or may not fire Tom Cable.
He will most certainly make a decision at his own choice of time whether he will keep Tom Cable or send him packing. And most certain you can be sure that Al will most probably keep Cable as HC, while it is least likely Al will retain him as HC. You can bank it!!!!!
January 18th, 2010 at 7:59 pm
Personally I think I would be more comfortable if Al and Herrera escorted Raider O, Florida Pete and Chris in NY to Mobile next week.
January 18th, 2010 at 7:59 pm
Vegas whats your trip?…a plan in place?…they have a full coaching staff,…what else you want?…(dont say GM please)
January 18th, 2010 at 8:06 pm
I want them to have the appearance of some competence. What is Herrera and Trask going to go down and scout? Our ace scout Zack Crockett?
I want them to operate like a successful NFL franchise. The day’s of the 70’s are over and Al don’t get it.
And I don’t hit up Craigslist for $2 pills so I can’t cope with it as easy as you.
January 18th, 2010 at 8:15 pm
The 70`s?..well we only one one superbowl in the 70`s,..the 80`s we won 2!…Look Vegas, the media is camping out in Alameda because they feel theres a firing, that the coaching staff is in the toilet,..heads are going to roll,…hey maybe they will, but until then they have a HC,..coaching staff,…looks fine to me, you think I care what the Ray Rattos are saying?…nope.

You hearing this Al?
January 18th, 2010 at 9:18 pm
Anyone see the Vikings demolish the Cowboys on Sunday? Got me to thinking, once upon a time Jim Fassel’s Giants beat down the favored Vikes by an even more lopsided final score … in the NFC Championship game. Remember that before you lump him in with the Kevin Gilbrides and Rob Ryans of the coaching landscape. Fassel had 1 bad season out of 7 in NY. It was his final year and the team was decimated by injuries. The rest of the time they were either winning the NFC East division or at worst competitive in the 7-9 to 9-7 range.
If Cable goes tomorrow, we could do a hell of a lot worse.

Norco Bob – We went to 4 Superbowls while having a G.M. Ron Wolf and Bruce Allen played roles on those teams. Those results were better than Al Davis by himself. I would rather see somebody in the office helping Al Davis than to see him try it solo because its obviously not working. Its looking pretty obvious that Al Davis wasn’t responsible for those winning teams.

Hey 24,..out of Ron Wolfe,..Bruce Allen and Al Davis,..which ones i nthe hall of fame?
January 18th, 2010 at 9:30 pm
Norco Bob – Al Davis might not have called them G.M.’s but now hes alone and his team is the worst team to ever play in the NFL over a 7 year span. I think Al Davis could use one of those guys right about now.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:31 pm
Norco Bob – Out of Ron Wolf, Bruce Allen and Al Davis…which one took all the credit?

Thats your opinion 24, I dont agree.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:32 pm
Norco Bob – Its ok that you don’t agree. We don’t have to agree on everything.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:32 pm
Bruce Allen I loved in Oakland, met him a couple times,..doubt he had any real personnel evaluation duties,..great cap guy, Iv heard, and mainly a buffer to keep Gruden and Davis apart and somewhat happy.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:33 pm
The jets will not beat the colts this week. We all know sandiego is overrated, even tho they beat us twice we pretty much smacked them around this year its just jamarcus couldnt score us points.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:35 pm
Al Davis is in the hall of fame,..believe me the league hated putting him in because hes sueing them, giving them the finger,..they hated letting him in,.but had no choice whatsoever,…he earned his way in, and theres dozens in there that dont belong.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:37 pm
Norco Bob – Whatever it was that Al Davis and Bruce Allen did together…it worked. Thats all that matters. My main point is…Al Davis needs help, I think its obvious. Al Davis has played a role in the success of the Raiders and hes made his share of good decisions but hes made more poor decisions without help over the last 7 years. I’m sure age also has something to do with that but that just means he needs help more now than ever.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:39 pm
Bruce Allen was awesome when we had a great qb and some future hal lof famers on the team,..not a bunch of inesperienced players.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:42 pm
HIRING Jim Harbaugh as head coach would mean getting back to PHYSICAL football!
January 18th, 2010 at 9:44 pm
I would be fine with Harbaugh,..however Im fine with Tom Cable too.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:44 pm
DKnight007 – That may be true but if the team still ended up 5-11 and 6-10 within the 1st 2 years, he would probably be gone or if he wanted to have more say, he would probably be gone…etc.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:45 pm
Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if old man Al keeps Cable just to spite the media.
Typical Al Davis….more worried about the media instead of worrying about making the right decisions for the franchise, football team and fans to get this team to be respectable again.
Stupid…
January 18th, 2010 at 9:45 pm
This team needs consistency. I have seen enough good things from Tom Cable and the current staff to give him another year. Hes been a victim of circumstance and if he can get the right QB, this team is a much different team.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:46 pm

DKnight007 – Cable needs a play caller because hes doing too much and hes not a great play caller to begin with. I’d love to have a play caller like Marc Trestman again to go along with the current staff. I agree that Lal should be replaced. I don’t think theres anything wrong with the RB coach, theres just something wrong with McFadden and Fargas. Bush has tearing it up if someone would just stick with him. We definitely need another Special Teams coach…thats true. With a few pieces, this team is improved.
January 18th, 2010 at 9:57 pm

January 18th, 2010 at 9:58 pm
The offensive line was pretty good when Cable was the Line coach. If he can spend more time focusing on them, it could get better. Add a couple of offensive lineman as well and that will help. Maybe we finally focus on the offensive and defensive lines during the next draft?

Make as much fun of him as you can but the bottom line is that kid has more talent than 80% of the QB’s in this league he just needs time and reps and experience. That opinion is consistent throughout the organization the media fans can scream all they want Russell will be a Raider unless he really screws it up off the field. That IMO is and has been his nly problem if he can control that (partying and friends) the rest will take care of itself.

What would be nice would be,
Raider owner Al Davis hires competent GM as his abilities to run the organization have diminished.
Tom Cable immediately begins to work towards the 2010 season, beginning with the hiring of a competent play caller.
The new gm and cable (or new hc) are at the senior bowl.
Raiders cut their losses and release draft busts.
Exorcisms are performed for three days in a row to remove any remaining curses and evil spirits caused by ruthless management over past twenty years.
Those sort of things.

I do support them…..from my TV at my house when they are not blacked out or on the radio. I only go to 1 or 2 games a year for the last 3 years because I refuse to pay money to Al Davis and his crappy decisions when he tries to sell the me and the rest of Nation of crappy product.
I used to be a season ticket holder from 1996-2002.
I hit it at the right time. I got the heck outta there when they tried to double my season tickets right after the Super Bowl year. I knew without Gruden the team was doomed….and guess what happened.
Sober up Norco….it’s stopping from you from thinking clearly and seeing the reality of the situation.

Lefty12, you’re a smart knowledgable Raider fan but you are blind when it comes to this kid. You look at his demeanor and think that tells you something and read all the crap Cable says and think that tells you something and then you nitpick everything the kid does as if it means something.
He’sjust like any other struggling young QB or any othe rplayer in this league with a lot to learn same as Nnamdi and Huff. Some players take time to learn their craft more than others he has a lot of growing up to do hopefully he will. But this crap about him not caring is so far out of the blue it’s not even funny. So you can believe whatever you wish but that kid did not blow off those meetings he had them and he left based on the organization excusing him. That’s what I was tld and the media made a huge stinking deal about it and those that hate the kid ate it up. So did you.

Forbes magazine, famous for its rich lists, just came out with its evaluations of the 32 NFL teams. No surprise, Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys tops the list with a current value of $1.65 billion. Only two NFL teams are unprofitable: the Seattle Seahawks, who lost $2.4 million, and the biggest loser of them all, the Oakland Raiders. Al Davis’ once wondrous franchise is now the least valuable NFL club at a “mere” $797 million, plus the Raiders had the biggest operating loss in the league at $5.7 million.

lets throw something different out there.most people always talk about the needs for Tackles.to me,Olines should be built from the inside out.when you get great centers and have an exceptional LG you are on your way to building your line.Look at McKenzie in Minn. and Fergason in NY.When Hutchinson left Seattle for Minn.,Jones got worse,McKenzie got better. When we had Wiz at LG,Simms was acceptable at LT.When Wiz retired,Simms became below avg.Fergason became very good after the Jets signed Fanica(?).Henderson got worse when Gallery went down.WE need a better Center and a better RG.

The Raiders offense took a serious turn for the worse the second Rob Gallery went out. What most posters don’t realize is Gallery went out early in preseason, went out again early in the season, came back right about the same time Jamarcus got benched, and then went out again at the end of the season. Every time Gallery went out, the Raiders offense took a nose dive.

I believe the biggest problem Mr Davis has with Cable is the Oline and the lack of a running game. If he doesn’t feel Cable can fix that pronto I don’t think he’ll be back. In the preseason he tried to convince him to go to a more power running attack instead of this finess crap and he refused and the problem with that is that was a huge factor in the teams demise.

Bullshyt, if Davis wanted a running game, they wouldn’t have focused on the passing game all year.
January 18th, 2010 at 11:29 pm
The offensive line was in a state of flux all season. Once Gallery went down the leadership of the line went with him. Everyone else was basically C+ to C-. Not awful, not good. We need better if we are going to institute a big run, deep passing game. In order to run that offense you have to have the premier offensive line in the league. (See Raiders, Oakland 1968-1978)
January 18th, 2010 at 11:30 pm

3 winning seasons in th last 15 years.
Now at age 81, he’s going to change that???????? Really?
January 18th, 2010 at 11:44 pm
Maybe the only way to get it fixed is to get a better RB and LET Bush have a bigger work load. While McFadden has talent,to me he has shown he is more like R.Bush than a workload RB.I’m still waiting for those 4-5 yd runs Fargas gets to be turned into 75yd TDs like some predicted at draft time.
January 18th, 2010 at 11:44 pm
Lefty12, we do not run a p[ower running game and you should know that we run a ZBS everyone knows that. A power running game is very different and we use small finess type blockers it’s not physical at all.
This stuff about Mr Davis telling Cable who to play is your assumption, fine with me but it don’t make it true. Cable changed the entire blcking scheme when he came here and everyone knows that.
January 18th, 2010 at 11:49 pm
Lefty12, you and me both man but to his credit he hasn’t complained at all about the way we use him. He could be an outstanding weapon in the passing game. If we used that kid the way Percy Harvin is used he would flourish I said that before we ever drafted him. He can be used in the backfeld as a runner and reciever but not as a feature back. Bush is the only real feature back this team really has.
January 18th, 2010 at 11:51 pm
i agree about the scheme.I don’t know about Bush but I do believe for some reason he is purposely being held out.Could be him-attitude,out of shape,etc.-or there could be another reason we don’t know about.I just find it hard to believe a HC who keeps his job by winning would keep what seems to be his best RB on the bench because he doesn’t like him(personally not as a player).
January 18th, 2010 at 11:58 pm
Lefty12, it happens all the time when coaches don’t believ in a player MBush has shown that he can carry this team but the coach just thinks he can do otherwise. Coaches can be very stubborn about there systems and how they want to emplement them. This coach not only didn’t use Bush right he also screwed up the passing game. Forcing it on these young players before they were ready to execute it.

Yeah, mental midget..Niners were a powerhouse for a longer period of time than any other team in the league..ever.
Leave it to your sorryass to miss the point.
That position of being the worst owner goes to Al Davis.
Position of worst fans goes to Raider fans.
Position of worst attendance for the LAST 15 YEARS goes to…yes..the Raiders.
All of the ugliness associated with the Raiders (except for the city..that sty was a pit seemingly forever) is on Al Davis.
Add to that it’s the team where careers either go to die, or are put on serious hold until the player gets out.
Add to it it has the most UNDESIRABLE head coaching job of any team, in any sport.
And the topper? No team in the NFL has more former players completely ripping on the team FROM THE OWNER ON DOWN, THAN THE RAIDERS.
It’s simply, as Gannon put it, “a completely dysfunctional team, from top to bottom”.
January 19th, 2010 at 12:04 am
McFaddens problem is it seems he rushes and doesn’t allow the blocking to set up where he should go.He is always running up his blockers backs instead of reading where the hole will be.At least it seems he works hard and is willing to do what he is asked, unlike Bush-and that is why i believe he isn’t being given a bigger role.
January 19th, 2010 at 12:13 am
Bush does exactly what he is asked Lefty12 and does it better than most now he may not be in the best of shappe but he is a top notch talent. Not using him wisely is how you lose. DMC has no moves it’s what I said before we drafted him and he goes down too easy.
That doesn’t mean he’s not talented but he is exactly what I said he would be a untility player. The offense could’ve operated well enough to win if Cable would’ve taken stck of the talent and used it wisely. The Jets the Ravens and the Falcons used their talent wisely we didn’t it’s just that simple.
January 19th, 2010 at 12:22 am
We both agree Bush should be used more.We disagree on why he isn’t.
Oakland Raiders run was from 1966-1985-last SB title 1983-lost next 2 yrs in playoffs.

The reasons he wants to keep his job are many-he actually likes the team, there are only 32 HC jobs and he has 1,he makes a damn good salary, and others.I weigh what the media says with what i see and with what i read the players say, then i form my opinions-i don’t take what writers write as gospel because i understand they too have agendas. However,if it turns out everyone says the same things,i have to believe there is some truth to what they are saying.
January 19th, 2010 at 12:51 am
Lefty12, right on brother that’s exactly how I do it. I just happen to listen to what the coaches have all said a bout Mr Davis and NONE of them have ever said he made them play someone they didn’t think was capable of playing or stopped them from playing a player they wanted to. Now if you have proof otherwise I’ll listen.
January 19th, 2010 at 12:54 am
Priest, one of the reasons i believe Cable should be retained is he can work with Davis, which like it or not, a HC of this team must do.I also believe they talk or meet weekly- a prerequisite for being the HC.When they meet i am sure players are discussed-that is how Cable eventually got Russell benched. If Davis really felt that Bush should play more,i am pretty sure he would have said so in one of their meetings. And if he had suggested it,i am just as sure the HC would have followed his request.

How about Marcus Allen?
January 19th, 2010 at 1:00 am
I wish this becomes our draft:
http://www.draftsite.com/nfl/2010mock.htm
January 19th, 2010 at 1:01 am
Marcus Allen is a player who believes as wishes but I’ve never heard Art Shell say Mr Davis wouldn’t let him play him. In fact Art debunked much of what Marcus believes now I don’t disagree with what Marcus believes but who really knows what happened only Art and mR Davis really know.
January 19th, 2010 at 1:12 am
It could be that Davis hasn’t ordered Bush benched, but just maybe Cable believes that is what he wants.Or maybe during their discussions it was insinuated McFadden and Fargas(for being the ultimate team player) be the main backs when they were healthy. It could be any number of things, but i don’t believe it is because Cable doesn’t like him.
January 19th, 2010 at 1:14 am
Well Lefty12, Cable even said in PC that the power game that Mr Davis was speakinhg of was more than the use of Michael Bush he said it as clear as day. You’ll hear Mr Davis say it in just a few weeks that he wanted to see more MBush. You’ll hear it yourself.
January 19th, 2010 at 1:14 am
Its late-later Priest.
January 19th, 2010 at 1:21 am
Before i go,i must say that i do believe what happened last year plays into the equation. If that is why Cable didn’t want to play him and he sold it that way to Davis,i could see that being the case-especially with Cable trying to install the “we” attitude instead of the “me” attitude.

Marc Trestman’s site, under the category: PHILOSOPHY
I am very fortunate to have worked for and with some of the great head coaches and assistant coaches of our time. It is through their mentoring, associations, and friendship that I have been able to formulate a philosophy for success on and off the field:
- Marc Trestman –
To be hard working, humble, and disciplined on and off the field, with a common respect for everyone in the program, our opponents, and the game of football.
To be a resource to each and every player in developing their football skills and character to the highest level possible, and at the same time have them internalize that everyone associated with the “team” (organization) are entirely “interconnected” with the other.
To communicate to everyone that they are “accountable” to the whole. That the success of the team is directly related to their individual commitment and effort.
To clearly define the role and responsibility of each and every member of the organization.
To put into place a system of football that is flexible to the existing talent and personnel.
To produce highly efficient play at each and every position to win games on a weekly basis.

SAN DIEGO (AP) Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson was handcuffed briefly and had his car impounded following a traffic stop on Sunday just a few hours before a playoff loss to the New York Jets, police said.
Det. Gary Hassen said Monday that a traffic officer pulled over Jackson for playing loud music. The player was cited for driving with a suspended license and expired tags. Jackson was briefly handcuffed, which Hassen said is part of standard procedure in such situations.
Jackson has been arrested twice for suspicion of driving under the influence since joining the Chargers. He pleaded guilty in a 2006 case and was on probation when he was arrested again last January. That case has been delayed several times.

here is the problem with Darren McFadden (IMO)
1. Luke Lawton, Gary Russell, Samson Satele, Chris Morris, Cooper Carlisle, Cornell Green, Erik Pears, etc. – is that even considered BLOCKING? most of these clowns would have a hard time cracking another 53 man roster, much less starting!
2. Cable’s playcalling and personnel choices. DMC has proved that if you give him at least 15 carries a game he will get the job done. Same with Mike Bush. Both are great pass catchers as well
3. Darren’s Durability. this is the most concerning to me because if he turns up injury prone (like Justin) we are in serious trouble. I thought when we drafted him that he had skinny legs. I wondered if he could be a between the tackle type of runner. move the pile on occasion. stiff arm a LB or SS and keep going full speed.
A “RB by committee” approach is only good if you have a HC or play caller that believes in it. otherwise there is always somebody on the bench the entire game. Cable thinks he should go 1 RB at a time because otherwise they won’t get a feel for the game.

January 19th, 2010 at 7:22 am
Russell is a bust. 1. he does not give the team any confidence when he is out there.
2. The offense was simplified for him, yet he still struggled. 3. When the offense is simplified like that, it gives you no shot of being functional at this level. Team’s scheme all week for Brees, Manning and many other better QBs that run far more complex offenses. So imagine when you face the Raiders, play against JaMarcus and a simple attack like Cable’s. It’s not like he’s doing innovative stuff out there.
Cable must go. But only if they bring in a REAL coach, not a puppet and a guy who will give AL the finger and say, “I’m doing it this way…,”
Otherwise, keep Cable there. He wants to stay, the team likes him, but strip him of his play calling duties and given him an off. coordinator that can actually call a good game. But if you keep him, Al better not play him like a fiddle and demand DHB to start just because he’s paying him, or Russell to continue to start etc.
AL Davis is a puppet master, and he liked Yes men. Until he says, “F-it, I can’t do this, let me get qualified people to run this mess…,” Oakland will always struggle.
Unless they can catch lightning in a bottle for one-season, somehow pull off 9 wins and be one of those feel good stories of the season that the NFL has every year. But even then, Raider fans will be to dumb, except that and think they have something to build on. Instead of looking at it as a fluky year. Long term, they will still have issues.
Heck, just look at the morons NOW. Gradkowski came in and played better than Russell, and all of the sudden, he’s the savior. A journeyman. YEAH RIGHT!
The guy played better than Russell (which is not saying much), and when you see both worlds, you can easily then be blinded by Bruce’s success ’cause Russell was so bad. Any upgrade would have improved the offense. But that does not mean that he’s the solution.
Like the guy from SBReport.net said, Oak. should bring in Marc Bulger, give him the job, add a solid run in the mill WR, improve the DL and hope for one good run.
January 19th, 2010 at 7:22 am

Dear Mr. McDonald,
It has come to my attention that one of my patients, known to you as N0rco Bob, has been banned from posting comments on your Inside the Oakland Raiders blog.
Mr. N0rco Bob suffers from a wide variety of psychotic disorders, ranging from Delusional Disorder-Grandiose Type, which causes him to have an inflated sense of self worth, to Dependant Personality Disorder characterized by an over-reliance on others that leads to submissive and clinging behavior and fears of separation.
As of right now, Mr. N0rco Bob’s Delusional Disorder-Grandiose Type is dominant, however, it is my professional opinion that if you ban him from posting his delusional comments about his relationship with the Oakland Raiders on your blog you could push his Dependant Personality Disorder to the forefront, causing him to, perhaps, do harm to himself or others. He also suffers from a mild form of Panic Disorder that in combination with his feelings of separation from your blog may cause him to have a sudden onset of heart palpitations, chest pain, choking sensations, dizziness, and feelings of unreality.
As his treating MD I request that you lift the ban from Mr. N0rco Bob, both for his safety and the safety of others. Mr. N0rco Bob is one of the saddest cases I have run across in my 30 plus years of practice in the field of psychiatrics. Years of research and studies may be ruined by your actions.

Lucid comment.

Dakota,
c’mon now. Your boy McF was the 53rd leading rusher in the NFL this past season. With one TD and four fumbles.
BoSJack is having some fun.
January 19th, 2010 at 8:37 am
McFadden has 8 career fumbles in 269 career “touches”.
One fumble every 20 times he gets the ball. Until he improves that, and his team-low YPC, he doesn’t deserve any more handoff’s than Fargas.
He has some potential catching the ball, but his carries are un-productive. Instead of “D-Mac” his nickname should be “2nd and 8″
January 19th, 2010 at 8:39 am
But forget DMAC being traded, no chance, he has about the same chance at leaving as Russell does,…none.
January 19th, 2010 at 8:40 am
He has also missed 8 out of 32 potential games, while being far from a workhorse.
They should try to trade him, at leasts to see what they can get. I would like to see what his market value would be.
January 19th, 2010 at 8:43 am
Interesing watching Comcast Sports yesterday, Gradkowski getting interviewed in the parking lot on way to “workout in the gym” there…sadly Russell wont be there, until required to be, per the collective bargaining agreement. Awful.

Fire Cable and hire Mariucci as HC.
Draft/sign a RT, RG and C.

Denny Green blows. He’ll be an Al puppet – like the others who have come before him.
Plus, he’ll probably take the job, convince AL that JaMarcus has life an can be resurrected and we’ll have to live with that mess for another year and a half.

1. Chaz was hurt
2. DHB was bad in his 1st year
3. Oak. has a bad unit at WR
4. The OL has been shaky
5. Lane out, Cable in – instability on the sidelines and off the field
6. No powerful rush attack
7. No creativity at coach
8. The burden of being the no. 1 overall pick and pressure that comes with that; he was overwhelmed…
YES, JaMarcus had a lot of bad things, and not an environment conducive to development.
BUT
1. He is lazy
2. Does not care about getting better
3. Is dumb – as evidenced by the dumbing down of the off., and STILL his inability to grasp it and produce
4. Is not accurate
5. Does not project a confident, strong-willed attitude for winning; as evidenced by him being overweight among other things.
6. Teammates like Chaz S., after games, have avoided talking about Russ, and have a change of sorrow in their face when he is mentioned by the media
7. Did I say he was dumb?
8. Was hindering the off., proven when OAK inserted Grad and Frye and they improved a lot without the tub of lard…
I can continue…
RUSS’ inability to succeed in this league is as much his doing as the dysfunctional team he is on!

I mean even with the third string we had a better chance to win so that shows exactly how bad jamarcus is… the third string!!! I don’t blame cable at all, al is the sole man responsible for players drafted as we all know and he has been ducking the offensive line for years now, tom cable can coach an o-line, he’s had success here in the past and on other teams as well so we know its not coaching, al just hasn’t givin cable the players to help him succeed. Any coach of the Raiders has to work with Al. Some do it well, most blow it. The coach has to MANAGE Al’s desires and sell him on what the right plan is, ala Gruden. Cable has shown he can do that, which is a big plus. Now he just needs a better QB, O-line and playcaller.

If hes a puppet like you say he can’t succeed , and if hes not a puppet and doesn’t atleast listen to al once in a while then he will instantly get fired like lane… Sounds like a catch 22 to me. but if we’re doomed either way I’d rather stick with cable for the continuity and hope it’d get turned around. Continuity in an electrical circuit is not only useful but crucial.
Continuity with Cable 5-11 5-11 5-11 is kinda like Giuliani’s brain – 9-11 9-11 9-11 9-11 9-11, it doesn’t alter no matter what the circumstance.

Breaking News:
Tom Cable will stay as Head Coach since Al Davis can’t find any other better alternatives that would be worth the hassle to bring someone else on board. The hot candidates who should be looked like Gruden and Harbaugh, aren’t excited about Al Davis being involved in player personnel decisions and being the GM they would have to deal with on weekly basis.
In other news today. The Seahawks are the latest team to make a smart move (unlike the Raiders) by hiring Green Bays director of player personnel as their new GM.
Nnamdi Asomougha was on ESPN’s First Take this morning (with the scary bioootch Dana Jacobsen) saying how allowing Cable to return as head coach would give the players much needed continuity (especially on the offensive side of the ball with playbook terminology) and confidence into next season.

January 19th, 2010 at 10:15 am
lonetree… So cable’s coaching is the resaon we went 5-11 this year??? Man we saw in the redskins game who the main culprit ii in the reason our season was as bad as it was, and if we would have stuck with him we wouldn’r have even won 5 games. With jamarcus on the bench we either lost or was in the game… with jamarcus out there it was blowout. We were up three against the redskins before jamarcus came in I think and then we bruce went down we go down like 20 points wtf. If any other qb woulld have started this year no even just bruce, we would have atleast won 8 games this year. We won 5 I think with bruce out there we would have won both charger games, that game against kc, and maybe even the redskins, and texan game. Now thats 5 games which leaves us at 10-5 and in the play offs. So don’t count this season as cables lost this year was tanked by jamarcus. Thats why I wouldn’t mind seeing him come back another year to see what he could do with a real qb.

The truth is………..
No coach would of accomplished anthing w/ Jaskittle at QB. NO COACH!
January 19th, 2010 at 10:25 am
What the players say matters because at the end of the day like micheal jordan said “its the players who win championships, the owners and all others just pay us”. And if they think they can win with him then hey… You have to take them for their word and they’ve played for some piece of shh coaches so yea they should know, and even though they probaby would be flipping burgers if they didn’t play football, they do play football because its all they know. They may not know much but they know football, and we can all agree Nnam would not be flipping burgers if he didn’t play football the guys smarter than you Im quite sure, so don’t talk like all football players are dumb. The mans done speeches with the president for christ sakes.

With jamarcus on the bench we either lost or was in the game… with jamarcus out there it was blowout. We were up three against the redskins before jamarcus came in I think and then we bruce went down we go down like 20 points wtf.
——————————————————-
LMFAO!
We were LOSING when Russell came in, CMON!
The we won when Jamarcus went to the bench argument is ridiculous! We had ONE good 4th qtr in Pittsburgh. Other than that, we got BLOWN out in Dallas and Cleveland, and the offense was abysmal in the other games.
The defense and STs won the Cincy game, and guess who won the other game, lol!
January 19th, 2010 at 10:31 am
Well, under Cable as HC our HC we can’t run the ball, we can’t throw the ball, we can’t block, we can’t stop the run and even our special teams, our one strength from 2008, evaporated in 2009.
Do you honestly believe that Russell is responsible for ALL of that?
Cable is the head coach, he is the man responsible for the entire team. He can’t get the job done. We beat
1) KC, so what?
2) Eagles team that didn’t run the ball and turned out to be nothing at the end.
3) A Steelers team that was in a tailspin well before we beat them.
4) A Broncos team that was also in a tailspin.
5) A Bengals team that fumbled away their chances on a kickoff, but this was probably our best win.
How did we follow up those glorious victories? Loss Loss Loss Loss Loss. It is the head coach’s job to get the team ready and prepared on a week to week basis; Cable has proven he can’t do that.
I guess if you want the players’ opinions, fine, of course they like Cable; his first act as HC last year? Stopped making the players practice until they got the plays right…really has paid off hasn’t it? Then he allows the team to take a vacation for the first few days of training camp. Again, great job. I can understand why the players like him…
January 19th, 2010 at 10:32 am
Well Cable actually accomplished getting a head coaching job in the NFL with Jaskittles, lol! He would have NEVER gotten that job last year without Russell and company winning out and Russell telling Al he was ok with Cable.

Yes, if Cable was limited to a pre-game speech, a post game news conference and could only call timeouts during a game (I know, he isn’t even very good at that…remember when he called a TO to ice the kicker, but the kicker missed that FG but made the next one lol) and I guess he could work with the o-line, and had absolutely nothing to do with who gets to play, what plays are called and which players are signed to play on the o-line, then I could stomach Cable for another year.

“I do get a feeling, like during the preseason and stuff, we ran the ball a little bit, but it was more of a thing where we say, ‘Well, we know we can run it. Let’s work on the pass.’ And you can’t hang your hat on what you did before,” running back Justin Fargas said Monday. “It’s kind of like you have to still improve it. Like yesterday, teams stack the box against us. And if you’re not really detailed and if you don’t control the line of scrimmage — you’re not detailed in your assignments, you don’t control the line of scrimmage, you’re not going to be able to run the ball.”

Al signs players that his coaches want. Cable is the ZBS guy, not Al Davis. We have nothing but ZBS guys on the squad until Al brought back an old power blocker in Langston Walker.
Barnes breaking his leg MIGHT have been a real set back. Too bad we didn’t get to see him battle it out with Henderson with the loser getting the RT spot. Could’ve moved Cornbread to RG.
January 19th, 2010 at 11:07 am

Yes Im cool with it because him keeping miller on the roster wasn’t a reason we lost games. Yes we could have signed rossum and got a better return man but thats on scout staff and personell men to search for better replacements. You don’t fire a coach because he didn’t sign a returnman wtf, and al wanted jamarcus starting this season and you know that. Everybody knew garcia was the raiders best chance to win in camp, thats why cable brought him along im sure if cable was coaching on any other team he would have jamarcus on the bench ath the beginning of the season but our owner believes “jamarcus russel is a great player, get over it.” But Im done trying to tell you bout cable because your mind is not going to change and neither is mine. The 3 and half games with Bruce in:
Cincy-20 points, seabass missed a 40 yarder, got the gifts 3 points, but two 80+ yards TD drives. Only game all year we did that.
Dallas-Not a good game. 7 points, not our worst offensive game, but fairly close. Short week, on the road in Dallas
Steelers-Best offensive games all year, best passing game in years, and best 4th quarter EVER
Redskins (half)- 10 points, which at the time, tied our season high for points in the first half.
Why do people say Bruce only had one good quarter? He only had one bad game.

Tom Cable was worse as an OC than Russell was as a QB, IMO. But I will say they were both awful.
I really don’t blame anyone specific. I saw this coming when Chaz went down in the preseason. I knew Miller and Chaz would be sure targets for Russell that would compliment the running game. Once Chaz, Miller, and Gallery went down, it was already over, IMO. Pears and Barnes at OT?
We all know Russell is no Peyton Manning. The exact way the Jets are playing with Sanchez is how our offense should have been DESIGNED. You even saw Cable forcing the air show when Russell was benched and it STILL didn’t work.
The notion that this team would have done anything weeks 3-9 with a different QB and all the injuries we had is absurd.

Murphy then went up among THREE defenders and brought a very ill advised ball down which NEVER happened with Russell. Vegas, we need an offensive line before we can use Gradkowski. He’s too small and will get killed in our offense. He had a couple of solid games. But look what eventually happened to him? Yeah…. good idea. Cut the best player on the team. I think we should cut Lechler too… he punts to darn good.

Cable, Jordan’s comment was a shot across the bow at their owner, nothing more. It was not meant to be a philosophical point on the players’ role in choosing a coach. There’s no application.

Nnamdi Asomougha was on ESPN’s First Take this morning (with the scary bioootch Dana Jacobsen) saying how allowing Cable to return as head coach would give the players much needed continuity (especially on the offensive side of the ball with playbook terminology) and confidence into next season.
…………….
If Nnamdi meant that, he should be cut. Surely he understands that in the NFL going from 5-11 to 5-11 is not acceptable.
^^^^^^^^^
Yeah…cutting or trading Nnamdi would be another “GENIUS” move by the delusional old man Al.
LOL

BSJ,
Last 2 seasons
Fargas: 27 catches for 165 yards
McFadden: 50 catches for 530 yards
January 19th, 2010 at 11:36 am
bcz24, if Nnamdi Asomugha really thinks that going from 5-11 to 5-11 is “continuity”, I’m convinced he cheated on every quiz in college and is dumber than a rock. That being said, I don’t think he is dumb. I think he’s just playing his cards right, in case Cable does come back. He has nothing to lose by saying something positive, plenty to lose if he bashes Cable due to the possibility of Cable coming back. I don’t think Nnamdi even meant what he said. But if he did, he’s got issues. 5-11 from 5-11 = continuity? On what planet?
January 19th, 2010 at 11:36 am
let’s not forget that Fargas has been in the league 5 years longer than DMC…

DKnight, if Nnamdi really thinks going from 5-11 to 5-11 is continuity, he should be shot. Never mind traded.

MR,
O-line is Al’s lowest priority? C’mon man. I would have to believe that listening to what you have to say ranks much lower as a priority for Al than the O-line.

Steelers-Best offensive games all year, best passing game in years, and best 4th quarter EVER
=========================================
I love Bruce Gradkowski, but if you remember on the game winning drive a Pitt DB dropped a sure INT that was thrown RIGHT to him. Murphy then went up among THREE defenders and brought a very ill advised ball down which NEVER happened with Russell. If neither of those two fluke things happened 99% of you would be cursing Gradkowski just like you all curse Tom Brady and the tuck game.
***********************************
If he throws a pick on that drive, it still would have been one of our best offensive game all year.
He did catch a few breaks, but he still had the same crappy coach, horrible O-line, inexperienced WR’s and in the games Bruce played, Bush never got carries and it was when Fargas was the feature back.
January 19th, 2010 at 11:39 am
Rockstar,
Adrian Peterson’s fumble-itis has not gone away at all (didn’t he lead the league in fumbles?). Unless you mean Adrian Peterson of the Chicago Bears.
January 19th, 2010 at 11:39 am
I don’t care how good Nnamdi is, nobody that stupid can be productive to a team. Then again, I don’t think his words are genuine, anyway. Think he’s just toeing the company line. But if he does mean that, that keeping Cable would bring “continuity”, considering we haven’t improved one iota under him, then his so called academic background is a sham. I’d be convinced that he’d never even read a book in his life if he thinks that. It’s a stupid as it gets.
January 19th, 2010 at 11:40 am
Cincy game … Grads had 100 yds passing before the last drive, lol. Cmon Vegas. And just thank GOD that Joseph dropped that pick on that last drive that was RIGHT to him, right or wrong.
We both talked about how good the Pittsburgh game was for Cable and Grads. But with that said, didn’t we only have SIX points going into the 4th qtr?
The Washington game? Lol! Grads had 2 big passes to McFadden, but was awful other than that. I’m sure you’ll check the stats. The worst part about the Washington game to me wa Cable’s inability to adjust. Once Washington adjusted a corner to McFadden’s motion, the game was OVER!
January 19th, 2010 at 11:41 am

he’s good with young QB’s and knows how to use more than 1 RB …
plus I doubt he’d settle for scrubs along the o-line like Cable does

I don’t mean it for choosin a coach in general I was saying players opinions matter. If they don’t like a coach what happens??? You have the shell ordeal, 2 win seasons, and everybody jumpin ship. If a player dosen’t believe in what the coach is sellin the season is at a lost because they have to perform the plays being called. But if you feel it doesn’t apply thats you’re opinnion and I don’t see why you tell me your opinion when I really don’t care. You posted a comment about that post just to tell me you feel it doesn’t apply…

he fumbled 6 times, losing 5.
does that lead the league?

well grads didnt start at the beginning of the season and his recievers were babies os give him a break
January 19th, 2010 at 11:43 am
Cable, Jordan’s comments had nothing to do with players, their role, an owner’s role, anything. He was just dissing their owner. That’s all.

Ole and Sven have a snowmobiling accident, drunker than skunks, both die, and go to Hell.
The Devil observes that they are really enjoying themselves.
He says to them ‘Doesn’t the heat and smoke bother you?’
Ole replies, ‘Vell, ya know, ve’re from nordern Minnesooota, da land of
snow an ice, an ve’re yust happy fer a chance ta varm up a little bit, ya know.’
The devil decides that these two aren’t miserable enough and turns up the heat even more. When he returns to the room of the two from Minnesota, the devil finds them in light jackets and hats, grilling Walleye and drinking beer. The devil is astonished and exclaims, ‘Everyone down here is in misery, and you two seem to be enjoying yourselves?’
Sven replies, ‘Vell, ya know, ve don’t git too much varm veather up
dere at da Falls, so ve’ve yust got ta haff a fish fry vhen da veather’s
dis nice.’
The devil is absolutely furious. He can hardly see straight. Finally he
comes up with the answer. The two guys love the heat because they have been cold all their lives. The devil decides to turn all the heat off. The next morning, the temperature is 60 below zero, icicles are hanging everywhere, and people are shivering so bad that they are unable to wail, moan or gnash their teeth. The devil smiles and heads for the room with Ole and Sven. He gets there and finds them back in their parkas, bomber hats, and mittens. They are jumping up and down, cheering, yelling and screaming like mad men.
The devil is dumbfounded, ‘I don’t understand, when I turn up the
heat you’re happy. Now its freezing cold and you’re still happy. What is wrong with you two?’
They both look at the devil in surprise and say, ‘Vell, don’t ya know, if hell iss froze over, dat must mean da Vikings von da Super Bowl.’

That’s something I feel some folks are overlooking. Here’s a guy who’s specialty is the O-line and yet the O-line is crap. Playcalling? Please. Commitment to running the ball. Non-existent. Motivator? Maybe, but why all the blowout losses, especially after a W? Working with Al. I’ll give you that but do we have to put up with all his other inefficiencies just because he works well with Al? And if he does work well with Al, why didn’t he convince him that we weren’t ready to be a passing offense?
Seymour said so himself. Bring in some good coaches.

The Washington game?
===========================================
What most “fans” don’t remember about the Washington game was late in the lst half, we had a 3rd and 12 that Gradkowski “completed” to Murphy. The Raiders then went up and ran another play gaining two yards, only to have the prior play reviewed! I have NEVER seen that before!
The lst down completion was over ruled, forcing the Raiders to punt. On the ensuing punt, Eugene breathed on the Washington returner giving them 15 yards! Fassel jumped onto the playing field, giving Washington ANOTHER 15 yards! The Raiders then completely gave up, giving Washington a late TD and deflating the team. Russell then came in to start the 2nd half to a deafening chorus of boooos, and he was the one given credit for deflating the team. Good one.
January 19th, 2010 at 11:53 am
MR – What dictionary do you read that has “improvement” in the definition of “continuity”?
January 19th, 2010 at 11:55 am
Does anyone think we will pick up McNabb next year if his contract does not pan out? Rumor has it he is already being phased out. He can throw the deep ball and he can set it up as well. What do you think?
January 19th, 2010 at 12:03 pm
If we dump Jamarcus there is a slim possibility we grab McNabb, no way we keep Russell and get McNabb though… no way we could spend almost 20 million next year on QB’s
January 19th, 2010 at 12:04 pm
I doubt the eagles get rid of him… they’d be stupid if they did because they will be in for a rude awakening when that other qb plays a full season, part of that becareful what you wish for type of thing. If he did leave I doubt he’d come to oakland, I could see him in san fran tho with vd, crabtree, gore, and dez bryant. Idk why but I have a feeling if bryants there when they pick the niners wil take bryant with one of their first picks.
January 19th, 2010 at 12:08 pm
Im of the opinion that if available, SF takes Tebow in the first round.

Post #442 is brilliant. Jhill, you and Priest are about the only two guys that seem to “get it”. I call into Sirius all the time and try to make the same point. Some guys just let themselves get brainwashed by the media. JaMarcus needs to do better, but you can’t ignore the issues with his supporting cast, nor the fact that he was coming along quite nicely before the offseason from hell where we lost Knapp, Schneider and Chaz. Al knows this and he’ll do what’s right regardless of what the talking heads and the blind fans that hang on their words say.
