JaMarcus crowned `King Elexis I’
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 at 11:38 am in Oakland Raiders.
JaMarcus Russell gave up his throne to Bruce Gradkowski and Charlie Frye in Oakland, but still reigns in his home town of Mobile, Ala.
Check out this story in his hometown paper, the Mobile Press-Register.

O’line also sux, but at least Grads did’t get his receivers killed played after play. JLH was terrified after that hit he took. Guess who threw the pass? Don’t even ask about Z. Miller in the Redskins game.
——————————————————-
You should just stop man, lol!
Who threw the pass that got JLH knocked out the second time?
And what happened to Miller in the Redskins game? You mean the play where Russell hit him on a crossing route, he broke TWO tackles on his way to a first down before he took a helmet to helmet hit? LOL at you trying to say Russell led him to a big hit.
It’s ok man, just say you don’t like Russell and leave it at that.

That’s something I feel some folks are overlooking. Here’s a guy who’s specialty is the O-line and yet the O-line is crap. Playcalling? Please. Commitment to running the ball. Non-existent. Motivator? Maybe, but why all the blowout losses, especially after a W? Working with Al. I’ll give you that but do we have to put up with all his other inefficiencies just because he works well with Al? And if he does work well with Al, why didn’t he convince him that we weren’t ready to be a passing offense?

But soon he’ll call some of them and invite them to his Mardi Gras ball.

January 19th, 2010 at 11:53 am
Others will be with Russell in spirit. His uncles, Mike Russell and Ray Ray Russell, both died in the spring.
Ray Ray Russell, a popular Mobile radio deejay, died of congestive heart failure at age 42 after a long illness. Mike Russell died more suddenly.
JaMarcus Russell clenched his fists to show his love and admiration of the two men.
Across his hands and knuckles are tattooed, “R.I.P. MIKE,” and “R.I.P. Uncle Ray.”
——————————————————-
I just don’t see how you guys are not recognizing these 2 events in Russell’s life POSSIBLY impacting his focus this past offseason.

-King, eh? Okie-dokie. Somebody’s gotta lead. May as well be Marcus leading a parade since he can’t lead an offense. A million dollar body and a 25 cent brain.
-Is that the best they could come up with? Well as long as he does’nt have to COMPLETE anything.
-I hope he don’t have to throw a moon pie to particular spot.
-He has been a HHHHHHHHHHUUUUUUUGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEE dissapointment in the NFL!!
-Really JaMarcus?? You cant find something else you should be doing? Maybe apologizing to all the Raider fans? Here is a man who shows up to camp over weight, has a horrible work ethic, never shows up early for game film review and doesnt understand the responsibility of being a role model. However, there is a bright side …. NFL Films is already to make a new segment of the Top 10 #1 draft bust. Guess who is on top?
-He was never that good.
ouch. LOL!

Pears, Green, Henderson, Carlisle, Morris, Satele? Paul Brown couldn’t get much out of those guys. Play calling did not seem to be the problem, execution was the problem. We have gone over this a million times, when you have Pears, Green, Henderson, Morris, Carlisle and Satele and EVERYONE KNOWS you are going to run, guess what, you’re not going to run.
Cable dedicated the lst part of the season to trying to establish a passing game. With two rookie wide outs. It failed miserably. Probably was the right thing to do tho.

Seymour – who was involved in getting those guys on the O-line? Did Davis force it on him? If so, Cable gets a bit of a pass. But while I feel Davis is the cause of many of the Raiders issues, he probably leaned on Cable at least somewhat to assess O-line personnel. Wasn’t it Cable that fully endorsed Kwame?

Jerry Jones understands today’s game better than Al Davis. It’s that simple. Jerry is better at building teams than Al Davis is. So Jerry keeping Wade Phillips is no reason for Al Davis keeping Tom Cable. Al Davis needs someone in the organization who knows how to build a winning team in today’s league, and who has the resolve to actually do it under Al’s nose.

What most “fans” don’t remember about the Washington game was late in the lst half, we had a 3rd and 12 that Gradkowski “completed” to Murphy. The Raiders then went up and ran another play gaining two yards, only to have the prior play reviewed! I have NEVER seen that before!
The lst down completion was over ruled, forcing the Raiders to punt. On the ensuing punt, Eugene breathed on the Washington returner giving them 15 yards! Fassel jumped onto the playing field, giving Washington ANOTHER 15 yards! The Raiders then completely gave up, giving Washington a late TD and deflating the team. Russell then came in to start the 2nd half to a deafening chorus of boooos, and he was the one given credit for deflating the team. Good one.
==========================
You need to pay closer attention, AIG.
You’ve “never seen that before”? lol…you nit.
The play was whistled dead, moron.
Lots of plays are snapped as the ref is blowing the play dead, whether a coach’s challenge or a booth challenge.

Barnes & Pears = Harris & Marten. no improvement over the “horses we had”
Cable can bench Russell, he can bench Heyward-Bey
Schilens & Higgins got an opportunity by injury, not coach’s decision at the end of 2008. Also remember Huff was benched – another Cable error.
How do we know that Murphy, Watkins & Schilens have improved? what have they done? Watkins is trash and the others have nowhere to go but up either.
playing time doesn’t always mean “improved”. and if it does then I guess DHB improved this year as well.
Have Carlsile & Green improved with all the starts Cable has given them??? has Russell? has Fargas? has Eugene?

If we drafted DHB as a decoy. Don’t we need a pirmary target first?
TEs don count even tho miller is solid.
If Murphy or Chaz can develope into a number 1 WR.
Only then DHB can be used as a decoy.

C’mon, Jhill..you can’t be serious?
Main purpose was to block and clear out other areas for the other WR’s?
Let’s pretend that’s the case..considering the horrible production at WR, someone “dropped the ball”..but no WR is picked in the first round, especially as high as 7, and handed a boat load of money to be a decoy.
That’s like saying a horrible last place qb, two years running, has “potential”.

working hard in the offseason and working with Nnamdi woke him up. Remember Kirk & Nnamdi both saying he was the most improved player on defense while Jerry Mac continued to slam him repeatedly ???
Huff took it upon himself. plus sometimes it takes a little bit to transition from SS in the box to FS at centerfield.
don’t forget the fact that we finally have a DC not named Rob Ryan. think that may have played a part?

January 19th, 2010 at 12:56 pm
For Sanchez, we’re limiting our sample to players who were first-year starters. Now, regardless of which team each Football Outsiders writer cheers for, we are all football fans first; we want to see good young players succeed. So imagine our horror when the closest match for Sanchez turned out to be current Raiders punch line JaMarcus Russell.
In 2008, Russell completed 198 of 368 passes for 2,423 yards and 13 TDs (with 8 INTs). This season, Sanchez went 196-for-364 for 2,444 yards, 12 TDs and 20 INTs. Their completion percentages were identical (ahhh!): both at 53.8 percent.
Russell started 15 games at age 23 in 2008; Sanchez started 15 games at age 23 in 2009. The biggest difference is in interceptions, where Sanchez was significantly worse, throwing 20 interceptions to Russell’s eight.

Banana, what cause is there? Has Russell even been suspended yet? Russell’s not the hardest worker, but in Oakland, there’s no such work standard anyway for players. His contract doesn’t demand or define hard work, he hasn’t violated league policy. Where is the grounds for cause? Besides, owners don’t need cause anyway. They terminate players’ contracts upon dismissal. Maybe waiving the cap hit? I really don’t know. I’m not big on the numbers stuff. I’m big on the Al Davis needing to retire stuff.

In 1972, Quarry added two more wins before getting his well-deserved rematch with Ali. He was ranked #2 at fight time. The match was part of a racially motivated ‘Soul Brothers versus the Quarry Brothers’ event set by promoter Don King, which included his brother Mike Quarry fighting Bob Foster for the world light-heavyweight title. Despite a better effort, Quarry again lost by TKO to a much bigger Ali in what proved a tough night for the Quarry brothers. Proving his critics wrong, Quarry, now managed by Gil Clancy, again bounced back to have perhaps his best year in 1973.
January 19th, 2010 at 1:45 pm
That had to have been the case, too, because there’s no way Rome would have just chosen to not ask him any Raider questions. Gannon’s taking the high road. Guess he’s laughing in silence now.

Faving Ali: Documentary.
I have seen boxing documentaries before but was never touched emotionally by one till I rented and watched Facing Ali tonight . The documentary looks at Ali through the eyes of 10 men who fought him, some of whom beat him: George Chuvalo, Henry Cooper, George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Larry Holmes, Ron Lyle, Ken Norton, Earnie Shavers, Leon Spinks and Ernie Terrell.
The documentary besides giving some inside revelations on the fights of those 10 men with Ali also gives some insight into the boxing careers and lives of the 10 boxers who are commenting on Ali. Some of their personal stories are pretty sad.
The documentary also covers what I found surprising statements from George Chuvalo concerning “mob” influenced events that led to the Chuvalo/Ali fight. I was also surprised by one of the fighters who was viciously verbally taunted by Ali in the days leading up to their fight come very close in the documentary to breaking down crying over Ali’s present day condition.
The 10 men express some frank views on Ali and their fights with him but with the passage of a lot of time and events between now and when they actually fought Ali, there is no question that the documentary makes clear that they all deeply respect him now no matter what they may have thought of him in the past.

Enjoy!
“Really JaMarcus?? You cant find something else you should be doing? Maybe apologizing to all the Raider fans? Here is a man who shows up to camp over weight, has a horrible work ethic, never shows up early for game film review and doesnt understand the responsibility of being a role model. However, there is a bright side …. NFL Films is already to make a new segment of the Top 10 #1 draft bust. Guess who is on top?”

January 19th, 2010 at 2:00 pm
The most bitter of those 10 men who fought Ali was Frazier.
Ali became his demon, and it looks like he never let go.
Didn’t just dislike Ali, hated him, and took to heart off of Ali’s insults.
Finally, after Ali got his Parkinson’s disease, Frazier hit an all time low stating “and they call me punch drunk?”
A low day for Frazier.

Buffalo GM takes shot at Raiders
January, 19, 2010 Jan 194:30PM ETEmail Print Share By Bill WilliamsonThese are fighting words.
Too bad Oakland and Buffalo don’t play each other in 2010.
New Buffalo general manger Buddy Nix took a shot at Oakland while talking about how desperate people want to be NFL head coaches.
Check out what Nix had to say: “I’m trying not to exaggerate, but we got 15 calls a day, begging for an interview and wanting this job,” Nix said. “I could’ve hired 35 or 40 the first week. And you would be shocked at some of the names.
“Trust me, it’s a good job. Don’t ever think you can’t fill coaching jobs even if they’re bad. Oakland gets a lot of calls.”
Wow. He just called the Raiders gig a bad job. Maybe it is, but it’s stunning that someone in the league would say it. Usually, front-office types are above board when it comes to talking about other teams.
Yet, Nix, who was last with San Diego, took off the gloves. Still, Oakland fans, take solace. If Tom Cable is fired, Nix believes there will be a line of coaches waiting to take his place.

Yes, I am a character witness for Bo.
January 19th, 2010 at 2:42 pm
the lawsuit demands that BO release his birth certificate and other records that he has hidden from the American people.
Judge David Carter refused to hear BO’s request for dismissal. He indicated there was almost no chance that this case would be dismissed. BO is arguing this lawsuit was filed in the wrong court if you can believe that. BO would prefer a “kangaroo court” instead of a Federal court! Assuming Judge Carter denies BO’s motion for dismissal, he will likely then order expedited discovery which will force BO to release his birth certificate in a timely manner (if he has one).
The judge, WHO IS A FORMER U.S. MARINE, repeated several times that this is A VERY SERIOUS CASE which must be resolved quickly so that the troops know that their Commander in Chief is eligible to hold that position and issue lawful orders to our military in this time of war. He basically said BO MUST PROVE HIS ELIGIBILITY to the court! He said Americans deserve to know the truth about their President!
The two U.S. Attorneys representing BO tried everything they could to sway the judge that this case was frivolous, but Carter would have none of it and cut them off several times. BO’s attorneys left the courtroom after about the 90 minute hearing looking defeated and nervous.
Great day in America for the U.S. Constitution! The truth about BO’s eligibility will be known fairly soon – Judge Carter practically guaranteed it!
Video from the press conference after the hearing coming soon. Congratulations to plaintiffs attorney Dr. Orly Taitz! She did a great job and won some huge victories. She was fearless!

January 19th, 2010 at 2:44 pm
Al Davis once said that he would rather be right than consistent. The truth of this matter, is that it is beyond a matter of right or wrong, this is an embarrassment to a once proud franchise, and a blinking neon sign saying, “DON’T WORK HERE” to future coaches
Failed Coach Fired, Wheeee here comes Bill Callahan
Failed Coach Fired, Wheeee here comes Norv Turner

Failed Coach Fired, Wheeee, here comes Lane Kiffin

31 teams will fail in there attempts to win a super bowl. So in my opinion there season was not a success, and they did not meet there goal. The Cowboys americas team the team everyone and there mama had winning it all. Got a taste of reality by getting spanked yet again proving nothing is handed to you, you have to fight, kick, and scratch your way to a win. You have to want it, same thing goes for the Chargers over confident and looked beyond the Jets and ahead to the Colts. Thats what happend this year when teams overlooked the Raiders they got there butts handed to them. They may not have been pretty wins but how many teams have knocked out playoff contenders more then Oakland the past 2 years. The Broncos twice.

If you didn’t know, there is a special election today to fill Kennedy’s seat in the Senate…polls indicate Republican Scott Brown could win. That is a strong message that independent voters have finally opened their eyes to what they put in Washington a year ago.

This is NOT the right path to recovery, you silly old goat!
My suggestion is to head straight down to the barbershop (no nap today, Krap Krap!), get a tight trim, then head right back home so your wife can change those filthy drawers.
If that goes well, you can work on your blueprints for the Swiss chalet. But then its lights out!

January 19th, 2010 at 3:12 pm
Jhill,
Please define what you are talking about….take your country back movement.
I am just glad to see some balance returned to the process. This close election in Massachusetts of all places, and the past gubernatorial races indicate a fast and solid swing back to the right that will continue later this fall in the mid-term elections according to most polls.
It is never a good thing to have such a strong majority in the hands of one party.

Post Kiffin Presser:
NOW THAT THE flying spittle has dried, the fightin’ words have faded to an echo and the debris has been swept away, there may be something to soothe any Raiders fan who witnessed the pitiful, painful sight of one man’s collision with his own wish.
Al Davis admitted he screwed up and, moreover, conceded he needs help.
Seriously.
For those looking for a ray of hope shining through the fog, a reason to keep the faith despite everything you’ve seen since 2002, there it was.
Understand, Davis could change his mind at any time — and likely will. He could decide next week the Raiders should continue directing their efforts and arranging their priorities around his capricious desires.
Still, it was sweet harmony for Raiders fans to hear Al blaming Al. He reduced his status from football god to domineering owner who longs for success but keeps getting in his own way.
Observers have known this for years.
We’ve seen the constant turnover of coaches, including the trade of the only winning coach the franchise has had since returning to Oakland in 1995. We’ve seen the abysmal drafts, choices made at the owner’s insistence. We’ve seen the misguided energy, the undermining, the players on “scholarship,” the petty bickering and the subjective treatment of individuals on and off the field, as well as those beyond the organization.

Dakota….I think this assessment nails it
********************************************
Political Science by Jim Leach….
The country over the past generation has been about one-third Dem’s,one-third Publicans and one-third independent.Basic math tells us that one-half of one-third is one-sixth so 16.67 of the voters nominally control candidate selection in a typical election.Because only 1 in 4 voters participates in primaries where candidates are chosen,it is one-quarter x one-sixth,that is only one-twenty fourth of the electorate that determines the candidates of the principled parties..This small group is socially quite conservative on the republican side and vigorously liberal on the democratic side.Consequently, legislative bodies INTENDED to represent a vast cross-section of the American public come principally to reflect its philosophical extremes

There are absolutely thousands upon thousands upon thousands of stories of people who came to this country with nothing in their pockets that now own businesses that employ countless others. I think what you are mistaking is the trickle “down” theory, where the richest dole out money to the poorest. It doesn’t happen. It has never has happened and it never will happen. I just love how you liberal morons try to rewrite history…..Clinton had nothing to do with that balanced budget…..it was a Republican congress that balanced the budget and created the surplus…..Presidents don’t have a budget or budget authority… it the House and Senate that authorizes and creates budgets with the president only approving or disapproving what is presented him….as far as Clinton he had to sign it because it was sent to 3 times and he couldn’t veto it….he even shut down the government in an attempt to force the Republicans to increase spending….so save your revisionist liberal trash for your fellow liberal imbecile buddies.

Wow, Krappy, that’s a real interested stat you’ve just posted for the 14th time this hour.
One thing I know about bloggers, they really respond to being clubbed over the head with the same fact repeatedly.
Maybe the next time you post your dribble, you’ll really get everyone on your side the way you’re hoping to and then you can all run off and overthrow Al.
Senility, folks – there’ll be a picture of Krappy next to the word in any encyclopedia.

Anyone who vote Republican is lying to themselves about what they’ve done or is profitting from everyone elses misery.
Bush’s schemes and policies have helped only the richest of the rich or in essense the ones who need it the least profit the most.
Have to laugh when I hear Repubs make assinine statments like “Your too stupid to be rich” when the fact is I know alot of rich people who are stupid as f**k.
Rich people tend to help those who need it the least, first and foremost, themselves…
Sick of crimnal pukes who helped destroy this country for the benefit of the super minority.
Repubs destroyed our economy
Erroded our privacy
Endagered our freedoms
Poisoned our food supply
Mired us in a war for their profit
and built massive illegal monopolies.
All undeniable truths even a stone cold Republican can’t deny.
But they do…they lie to themselves and frankly, the vast majority of us see it and know it and are acting accordingly despite their fear mongering lies tactics.
Most of know exactly who the real American enemy has been over the last decade.

Corporate fat cats are set to post record “bonuses” to the tune of $14 BILLION dollars while the rest of us f’in suffer.

NFL’s All Time Worst 5 General Managers.
————————–
#4
Wow, a one-time genius is now stuck in the past. When an owner/general manager continues to use the phrase “commitment to excellence” over and over again to describe a team that has a record of 29-83 since 2003, 7 consecutive seasons of 11 loses or more, and 4 coaches in 6 years, you know he’s living in the past. The once proud franchise took a page out of Daniel Snyder’s business handbook on Football management. At one time, this franchise had the greatest winning percentage in all of professional sports, was a perennial playoff team and contender year after year. Somewhere along the way, Al Davis went completely insane, hired and fired coaches over and over again, and displayed a complete lack of understanding not typical of someone in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Known as a ‘maverick’, he’s certainly that as he’s ignored the conventional wisdom of hiring good people and leaving them alone. Instead, he’s known to interfere in play calling, chasing over the hill free agents, and drafting complete duds like Jamarcus Russell whose 3 year quarterback rating is an abysmal 65.2%.

I was opposed and still am to the bail out of corporate America. Its bull****. BUT Republican polices opened the flood gates to LET them rip us off and rob us blind.
They are DIRECTLY responsible for the mess Obamy inherited or have you “revised” that so it all the negroids fault?
What evs, no point in trying to have a logical conversation with some one whos so f’ing mired in fantasy land.
Do I trust Obama? Hell no. Do I KNOW Bush Cheney are liars and criminals on a super villan cartoonish level? Yes. Anyone with a computer and an open mind can see it for themselves.

# The Real MaddenRaider Says:
January 19th, 2010 at 11:40 am
Great, another nickname for him for the idiots who think the Raiders’ problems are really his fault.
He sure aint helping, thats for sure.
“JaMarcus Russell completed 9-of-14 passes for 102 yards with one interception and one fumble lost in Sunday’s loss to the Ravens.
Russell came on for an injured Charlie Frye in the second half and failed miserably. His interception was a simple stare down and his fumble showed his complete lack of awareness. Even if coach Tom Cable is fired, the Raiders would be wise to go in another direction at quarterback this offseason. Russell’s physical skills are not translating to any kind of production.”
-Rotoworld
January 19th, 2010 at 10:00 pm
If Priestjj and the rest of the Jamarcus lovers want to say Russell should be given a chance because there may be something there to work with because of his obvious, raw, physical skills then fine, but the facts are that he was the 32nd rated QB in the league; came in to camp way out of shape, the players on the team say he is not a leader, and he speaks as if he’s semi-retarded.
Those are the facts. Anything else is just hope and nothing else.
Is anyone disputing the FACT he is the statistically the worst QB in the league? Hello? Anybody there? Didn’t think so.
