Raiders adamant Jackson is O-coordinator candidate

A pair of Baltimore area reports have Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson in Oakland not only as a candidate for offensive coordinator, but head coach as well.

Both the Carroll County Times and the Baltimore Sun reported Jackson could ascend to the top job.

Raiders senior executive John Herrera, however, said the Raiders have conducted no outside interviews for job of head coach.

“I would vociferously deny that any head coaching interviews are taking place while (Davis) is still meeting with Tom Cable,” Herrera said.

Jackson’s contract status is not known, but he was allowed to interview for the 49ers offensive coordinator job last season while under contract with Baltimore. Coach Mike Singletary even brought back Jackson for a second interview, but in a mild surprise, instead selected Jimmy Raye to run the 49ers offense.

In other news, the Raiders are finalizing an agreement with Mike Waufle to return as defensive line coach. Waufle coached at Cal from 1992 through 1997 and with the Raiders from 1998 through 2003. Swept out with much of Bill Callahan’s staff, Waufle was hired by the New York Giants, with his shining moment coming following the 2007 season when his unit dominated the unbeaten New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.

Waufle was fired following the 2009 season as part of a Giants shakeup. He has almost exclusively coached four-man lines, which seem to rule out any chance the Raiders would switch to a 3-4 defense.

The Raiders made no announcement regarding the status of incumbent defensive line coach Dwaine Board, but chances are he will be in Mobile, Ala., for the Senior Bowl next week, still under contract with Oakland but with permission to look for another job.

The contracts of assistant coaches Aaron Pelch (special teams), Rich Scangarello (quality control offense) and Bert Leone (quality control defense) were not renewed, although it’s not inconceivable they could return unless they find other employment first.

please switch Vegas to the Pro-Owens list.

    Thanks. Management

  • I love it when Dakota whips out the annual TO list!

  • RaiderRockstar

This story probably went something like this…

reporter: Are you aware that Mr. Davis is interviewing an OC, Mr. Jackson?

    Cable: Hue.

reporter: what does Al’s laundry smell like?

    Cable: poo (under his breathe)

  • EndZoner

Please put me as a HELL NO! NO TEE YO!

  • Carl Weathers

I’ve never been a fan of Owens but I sure as hell like him more than #81, Candy Floss.

  • Carl Weathers

I would welcome Owens. A sure Hall of Famer and the only vet on offense…

  • It takes Davis no time at all to make the decision to ship Gruden out. Meanwhile, he has to think about Cable.

Gruden brought us 2 straight division titles. Cable takes a 5-11 team to 5-11. But Al’s not sure. Has to think about it. Didn’t have to think about Gruden. He had to go. Offense was so boring.

  • RaiderRockstar

please don’t encourage Dakota to whip it out!

he’s going to be a father soon. he needs to clean up his act 🙂

    no more public mast…

    T.O. again? Let’s recap:

I demand an asterisk next to my Hell No listing…I would welcome TO if we traded DMAC for him!

  • RaiderRockstar

would Tollner & Hackett be retained if Jackson was HC or even OC ???

LOL, Chris johnson is pathetic, he couldnt get a backup job with any of the playoff teams, he might be okay to be a nickel or dime

You’re crazy. Chris Johnson is one of the better No. 2 CBs in the league.

    – 13th in the NFL in passes defensed with 21 (Huff in his breakout season was 2nd on the team with 17).
    – 68 tackles was 2nd among the Raiders secondary (behind Branch).
    – 3 INTs tied for team lead (with Huff).
    – Covers the other team’s star WRs as much or more than Nnamdi since they each just stick to their own sides of the field.
    – Speaking of coverage, what do Vincent Jackson, Dwayne Bowe (twice), Brandon Marshall (twice), Andre Johnson, Steve Smith (NYG), DeSean Jackson, Braylon Edwards, Chad Ochocino, Hines Ward, Santana Moss and Derrick Mason have in common? They were all held under 100 yards receiving by CJ and the Raiders this season. As a matter of fact, it wasn’t until Week 8 in the 2nd SD game that a WR went over 100 yards on us when Jackson had 103. Santonio Holmes and Miles Austin were the only other two to go over 100 yards receiving in a game against us.

Of the remaining playoff teams, outside of Revis and Antoine Winfield, there may be a corner or two in CJ’s class, but none are better.

Yet you insist that CJ is a major liability for this team?

    Get a clue dude.

you say get a clue, well LOL… you get a cleu, why would a team need 100yds of recieveing when they have our asses under control??

if CJ is that great, why dont you look at how many penalties he got, how manny times did we stop teams on 3rd down only to see CJ eff’up and let them get a 1st down (both on stupid plays and stupid penalties by CJ)

  • Dakota..

sign me up for hell no

  • Hey I just threw it out there.

For one year, cheap, I now say why not?

  • Pretty Rick

With JaMarcus Russell’s work ethic and immaturity already being a big problem, I think the last thing we need to do is bring in T.O. That would be a time-bomb just waiting to explode. At this point I think we just have to hope Schilens & Murphy can step their game up next year, & have D-Bey get acquainted with a jug machine for the entire off-season.

  • RaiderRockstar

Owens can take Heyward-Bey under his wing the same way he did Miles Austin.

his teammates in Dallas loved him.

Jason Garrett & Jerry Jones’ son didn’t …

I think if Hue Jackson can handle Chad Johnson, he can handle Terrell Owens

  • lefty12

could you imagine what TO would be like with the anchor bouncing balls at his feet or throwing behind him when he got open behind the defender.

  • Hold your T.O. list requests until the start of the Free Agency period please.

    Thank you.

  • The interview may have went this way…

Reporter: Coach Cable did you know Al was interviewing other coaches?

Cable: I didn’t know he was up from his nap

Reporter: Yeah Herrera is in there changing his diaper right now.

Cable: No…..I think he is looking for a new feces manager Herrera isn’t cutting it.

Reporter: No Tom he is looking to replace you

Cable: replace me…..who are they going to get to punch out the assistant coaches when they mouth off?

    Reporter: Russel Crow

Cable: But I just signed a new deal with Hanes T-Shirts I am modeling their wife beaters in the fall fat guy catalog

Reporter: Nice endorsement deal how did you get it?

Cable: I had a few gals put in a good word for me and oh yeah Randy Hansen helped

Reporter: what will be your claim to fame as the Raiders coach

Cable: I always say we are close to being a good team and some dumb retards on this blog believed me.

  • RaiderRockstar

will Cable get fired before the start of Free Agency (March 5th) ???

I remember certain people on here “vociferously” demanding that the Raiders draft DMac two years ago. That should explain how lasting a vociferous statement can be . . .

what are your thoughts on Hue Jackson for HC?

I’m not talking about Hue Jackson. I’m talking about Al Davis, and his history with coaches.

  • I wanted Glen Dorsey or Sedrick Ellis that year

I remember this room was full of DMAC supporters

  • Dorsey 2 career sacks

    Ellis 6 career sacks

    LOL. Trade DMAC for crickets!

  • Zymurge

So who can name the last #2 CB that the Raiders had that is better than CJ?

I agree that he’s one of the better #2’s in the league. The numbers do speak for themselves. Anyone lined up opposite Nnamdi is going to get tested play after play. Sure, CJ got beat at times, and even key times on occassion, but we can do a lot worse. Imagine Routt in that same situation!

Also bear in mind that he doesn’t exactly have a QB initimidating front 4, so without serious blitzing to put him on an island, he’s asked to cover for longer than any CB would like.

All things said, we could do a lot worse — and have in recent years — than CJ. And in this day and age of the NFL, you can’t have stars at every position. If you can have a select few, and no underperformers in a surrounding cast, that’s about the most that you can ask for.

  • Is the courtship of Hugh Jackson (as HC or OC) a bad sign? A sign that we will still ignore the o-line and running game?

  • Anyone hear Prince’s fight song for the Vikings yet? Is it to the same beat as Darling Nicki?

  • Zymurge

Way to man up Dakota. Gotta respect you for that.

Remember two years ago that I said that DMac would be another Michael Bennett? Right now, it’s looking like we’d be happy if he did rise to that height 🙁

Ryan Clady was clearly the pick for us. Jerod Mayo would have been good. Or mendenhall. Or Flacco. Or Keith Rivers.

Thank for reminding me RMR — if there’s one thing to be thankful for as a Raiders fan is that we don’t have Prince showing up at our games!

Hold your horses, I ain’t giving up on McFadden just yet. Lets hire get a HC, RT, RG, C and QB worth a damn before we give up on McFadden.

  • RaiderRockstar

how could anybody predict that Kiffin would be fired 4 games into DMC’s rookie season? then get replaced by a OL Coach whose favorites include Harris, Barnes, Satele, Carlisle & Green. Plus scholarship player Justin Fargas. Went from Top 10 to like 25th under Cable. not just DMC, but Bush & Fargas too. Is DMC to blame for the fumbles? Yes. how about his injuries? No. how about the play calling? No.

McFadden might been special for another football team. hard to tell.

DMC lost RB Coach Tom Rathman too, who was replaced by TE coach Kelly Skipper

  • Pretty Rick

I sure hope Rolando McClain runs a 4.3 at the combine so we can take him with 8th pick. Then maybe Ciron Black can run a 4.5,,that way we can fufill Al’s need for speed,,and without him knowing it, we would actually be addressing positions of need.

  • Don’t click that link I just posted above, it’s bogus. One of those deals where they make you take a bunch of surveys. They’re known to have viruses. Again, dont’ click on that lick, on comment #90.

  • Dakota I know Ellis and Dorsey are not doing well, I was just being honest about who I wanted that year.

  • Zymurge

You can get all of those and DMac is still not an every down back. He’s a guy that can really fast, really far down the field — if the holes are big enough. He’s not a guy that can break tackles and make yards where they are not.

Even with Minnesota’s excellent OL and scary passing attack, AP still has to apply his magic to turn 2 yard runs into TDs. Unfortunately, other than having the 5th gear once he breaks free, that’s the only magic that DMac shares with AP. Or most other every down backs for that matter.

So I’m not giving up on DMac yet either. I’m just calling him what he is: another Michael Bennett type back. Useful for change of pace and splitting out to create mismatches. Not very useful for pounding between the tackles on 1st and 2nd down.

  • Looking back, Ryan Clady would have been great. I remember one person that brought him up a couple of times…not many thought he was worthy of a top-10 pick though.

  • VanHeathen

To would be ‘PERFECT’ for what ails this team…Someone who would get up in JR’s GRILL and Challenge him to a fight after he missed a wide open TO, multiple times during game 1…

Dakota takes a lot of heat for wanting Al to draft McFadden.

where are all the posters who wanted Al to draft Russell?

where are all the posters who wanted Al to hire Cable as HC?

because none of those posters have a very good case to present either …

  • Zymurge

Let’s not forget that “sleeper” pick, Vernon Gholston. He turned out to be a stud too.

Then again, I think that he still has a lot of upside. But he doesn’t have the excuse of a weak surrounding cast.

And for the record, in 08 I was advocating to trade down with the Cowboys for the two low 20’s first rounders and use one to take Felix Jones.

  • I’m hell no T.O.!!!
