Can't somebody just tell Al Davis not to act so stupidly?

He wants so desperately for the media to say good things about the Raiders, and he figures he'll get that result by referring to the most recognized announcer in the league as having "not a bone of morality in his body"? Since when is criticsizing a football team "immoral"? How ridiculous. Then, didn't he call Chris Mortensen "a chronic liar" or something like that? Why not just ignore stuff like that? Who freaking cares?

Then he embarrassed himself by interrupting Seymour at the presser by saying "and he wants to play for the owner"; referring to himself of course.

We wonder why a decent head coach like Cowher, or heck, even Sarkisian, wouldn't come to Oakland. Gee whiz, maybe it's because they worry they may not even get freakin' paid, or that they worry Al will bring out a freaking overhead projector and read private letters, and then publicly state that he is firing his head coach "for cause". Or maybe that Al will fire him in the middle of the season and not pay him the amount he owes him. Gee, I wonder WHY a good coach would be resistant to coming to Oakland.

Somebody tell Al that he is only embarrassing HIMSELF with this stupid crap, not to mention the Raider fandom.

After considering the above, how can anyone come to the conclusion that he is anything but a sane individual?

# Phila. Raider Says:
January 24th, 2010 at 5:38 pm

The Raiders never indicated he was going to be fired!!! I am tired of the media, in absence of information, creating their own stories and assigning them to sources or whatever. It is almost a mind set where “we’ll throw this crap out there and force their hand in having to respond with the real story”. Every single outlet had Cable GONE. Now it is BREAKING NEWS HE STAYS….their was never any Raider evidence he was not going to stay so how is this news???

^^^^^^^^^
Yeah but the old man and Herrera never exactly offered any great votes of confidence that Cable was gonna stay either.

# Raider O Says:
January 24th, 2010 at 11:37 am

I don’t know if ZBS is holding us back, but F Pete said it best: it’s being used as an excuse not to draft OL in the 1st 2 RDs, and an excuse to have guys like Cooper, Green, Pears, Harris, Barnes ( who I wanted us to sign), Satele, and Morris.

^^^^^^^^
Exactly.

What needs to happen is two things when it comes to improving the running game and the O-Line play in general.

The implementation of more POWER running schemes....whether it's a power ZBS scheme or a more power counter, man or misdirection blocking scheme within in the red zone. ZBS should not be the exclusive blocking scheme that used 100% of the time....the blocking schemes need to mixed up much like what the Ravens and Jets use.

The other big change that is needed is the drafting or signing of FA's O-Linemen that are bigger and stronger and weigh 320 pounds or more or maulers who can also move.

No more of this exclusively focusing on adding 300 pound O-Linemen who can move....but are NOT maulers.

Arent we supposedly running a vertical attack? Withthe ZBS though?
================================================

the ZBS would not be incongruent with a deep passing game. The Jets run it and they had the number one run O in the league last year they just don’t incorporate the deep passing game which would be a nice feature. If you are going to heave the rock deep down the field, you need one of the if not THE preeminent Offensive lines in the league. Otherwise, you get killed. We don’t have that so we get killed.

=====

Were you watching the first half of the Indy-Jets game? The Jets used the ZBS based run to set up a deep pass to Edwards for a long TD. The announcers were talking about how the Jets players were saying that their running game didn't really take off until after the trade for Edwards and a legit deep threat to keep the defense honest.

Which brings us back to the Raiders. In Al's mind he's on the right page. He has the blocking scheme, the coach to run it, and is stockpiling deep threats. Of course the grand flaw is that the QB that he wanted to execute doesn't scare the defenses at all.

Get a QB in there that can make the deep throws, and continue slowly upgrading the OL, and this is a formula for success. Taking OC duties away from Cable and letting him be more in tune with coaching the ZBS and that's a step in the right direction as well.

I have to laugh at the latest nonsense speculation that it’s the zone blocking scheme that’s holding the team back. You guys kills me!
****************************

The ZBS sucks man

-----

Hate the playuh and/or the execution; not the system.

The Jets seem to be just fine with the ZBS. And that's with a rookie QB and a rookie RB that is taking over the majority of carries.

The Jets also have a few higher round picks that make up their OL, so it's not necessarily the case that the ZBS is made for low round castoffs. With more teams moving to the ZBS, the best OL fit for the system are starting to see increased demand for their services.
